Mouse settings?

Q: Mouse settings?

Up until recently, I'd never been particular about peripherals. In fact, it is only now that I've begun to experiment with the features of my mouse driver -- all of which are quite new to me. So I'm curious as to what mouse settings you guys use.

For now, mine are as follows:

- Polling rate is still at default 8ms.
- Mouse speed is at 6/11 in Windows, enhanced pointer precision off, MarkC fix enabled.
- Mouse dpi settings are at 1200 dpi on a 1920x1080 monitor. I toggle down to 400 dpi when necessary.
- Usually, I have the in-game mouse sensitivity set to medium or low.

I'm using a Corsair M60.

What settings do you use when gaming? Do you use these same settings for everything else?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't really have access to my desktop right now, so this is a wild guess on my memory, on what I use:

Windows sens. something like 6/10.
1080p monitor.
Maxed polling rate (1000?)
2600DPI on desktop
3400DPI on FPS and other usual games
5600DPI for some weird games with slow movement, or LoL/HoN/DotA (HoN I play mainly) or other RTS as necessary.

Looking for advice on how to find where the touch pad settings may be hidden on this laptop I'm working on? I've looked in the control panel and there is no icon for touch pad and I've looked in the mouse settings without finding any options to change the settings for the touch pad? The laptop is an acer Aspire 5520-5912 running Vista Home Premium Service pack 2. Any ideas?

A:Can't find touch pad settings in Control Panel/Mouse settings anywhere?

Hi loki2007 Usually, Windows install it's own Microsoft Legacy Drivers for a touchpad on a laptop, and these drivers doesn't enable the "Advanced" settings that allows you to control the touchpad. In order to do that, you have to install the laptop touchpad drivers which will add that tab in the Mouse options.Download and install these drivers: me know if they install or not.

All of a sudden, I've begun having strange mouse lag in short bursts (maybe once a second), sometimes followed by a beep.

After digging around, I found someone's solution (Keyboard / Mouse lag constant beeping Windows 7 and 8 Fix!! ~ EvonsDesigns) and tried changing the settings but nothing worked.

However, I noticed something strange: the mouse lag stops completely when I open the "make the mouse easier to use" setting page, but as soon as I exit out of that page, no matter how I changed the settings, it comes right back?

How can I stop this? It's obviously not a hardware issue.

This is probably going to seem kind of OCD, but I recently reinstalled my Logitech opitcal mouse in Windows XP. Aside from setting the speed, I can't seem to find the option to TURN OFF 2 things:

1.) Highlighting without having to click (or automatic dragging and highlighting)
2.) Turn off automatic scrolling (i.e. I click once anywhere on a page and it starts automatically scrolling without me moving the wheel)
-------------> ...This also applies when I'm moving windows. It takes 2 clicks to keep it in place.

I know these are really OCD things to complain about, but I can't find the settings to adjust them. Perhaps they're not Logitech settings but accessible somewhere else? I just forget where.

Every time I reboot my PC the settings for the mouse are lost, e.g. the Left side (Back) default setting. This is an annoyance because I have to return to the control panel and reset the

How can I set these settings so that they are kept on reboot?

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue but it is driving me mad. My mouse is double clicking 99% of the time, when I have only done a single click. I've tried setting the mouse speed to slow and fast and everywhere in between, as well as enabling detect accidental double clicks in the windows registry, but all with no luck.

It is getting very hard to delete emails in outlook express and suchlike, because with one press it deletes 2 emails at once. Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Yes ma'am.  There ought to be something in gpedit.msc, I saw something about it.
EDIT:  I'm sorry, I don't see the settings now.  Maybe I saw them in Win7 and 8; what I saw to turn off, is not in 10.  I looked in gpedit.msc and in Godmode.  The user-configurable settings are there, but as you said they don't stick.  Maybe that's a bug to report as Feedback?

How can I set up different mouse settings for different mice? I like the built in touchpad to have a fast pointer movement because of the small size of the touchpad but my external wireless mouse to have a much slower pointer movement becuase I drag it all over the place. When I change the settings in control panel I end up with the same setting for both which results in either the touchpad being too slow or the external mouse being too fast. I can't see where both are listed seperately in the control panel with seperate settings depending on which is being used.

The Devices and Printers option in Windows 7 opens up a picture of a mouse called 'USB Optical Mouse'. Fine - but when I right click and choose the 'Mouse Settings' option, then go into either the 'Buttons' or 'Wheel' tabs, there are no options to control what the damn thing actually does (I need it to pan in AutoCAD) - just the rate of scroll, click speed etc.

So HOW can you change what clicking the middle mouse button does??

Based on your description, when you add the promblematic user account to domain administrator group, the touchpad setting still not appear.
I suggest you recreate a new local user either admin or standard to check if it could get the correct setting.

Guess I'm not too smart because even after a Forums search I'm not too sure what Forum to post this in....

I am left handed. I do know how to change the Mouse properties button to switch them. So that is not my question.

My question is this: recently (for the past month or so and for some unknown reason) every time I reboot my PC my Mouse button properties/settings revert to those for a right-handed person. Every time after a reboot I have to re-change them.

My settings used to "stick." But, for the past month or so, they no longer do. Any idea why my mouse settings seem to get wiped out every time I reboot?

When I click 'mouse' in control panel, windows thinks for a second, then just nothing happens - the configuration window doesn't appear.
This is annoying in particular because I can't redefine the right side button, which by default opens the magnifier.

Currently I have 3 mice installed:
- Synaptics touchpad
- Microsoft intellipoint
- keyboard trackball mouse

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 3310 laptop (see specs here).
Running Windows 7 x64.

Is there an icon for one or more of the above in the task monitor down by the clock? if yes what happens if you click it?

Hi I am a new owner of a Lonovo ThinkPad with Windows and I am having trouble with the settings I am a lefty so when I first configured the laptop I changed the mouse settings so that they are reversed This worked fine But I also wanted a real mouse mouse connected settings UltraNav Changing a is while so I got a Microsoft wireless mouse USB Now I mouse right handed since I Changing UltraNav settings while a mouse is connected am more used to it so while the Changing UltraNav settings while a mouse is connected IntelliPoint software was installing I changed the mouse settings back to default I figured I would just go and change the settings whenever I didn't want to use the mouse But when the software finished installing I found that the Control Panel Mouse window changed Now even when the mouse is unplugged the place where I had been able to change the button settings is a new window that is specific for this mouse Plus these changes don't affect the UltraNav so those buttons are still set for right-handed How do I change the UltraNav button settings

A:Changing UltraNav settings while a mouse is connected

Hello thebookster, and welcome to the forum.

I think you will have to uninstall the new mouse to get your old settings back. Should this work and you set up your Ultranav for a left handed person the Ultranav settings may still not work on reinstalling the new mouse. but it is worth a try.

I have 3 machines all running Windows 8. I sign on to them all with the same Microsoft Account.

On 1 machine I set the Mouse properties to NOT use "Enhance pointer precision".

On another machine I like to have it on, but it seems to keep turning itself off.

Is this anything to do with Windows trying to be intelligent and somehow pulling settings I've selected on 1 machine across to the other?

Hello TSG'ers

Due to a spyware infection, I recently lost the use of the MOUSE 'right click' button and the TaskMgr. I was able to restore the taskmgr through a reset of the registry value, I was wondering if my mouse 'right click capability' could be restored through the resetting of a registry as well.

Does anyone out there know what settings need to be reset in order to get the 'right click' capability back.

Any other infromation like a website link reference to Win/XP registry settings would also be appreciated, since I also lost the ability to change my desktop wallpaper I figured I would look for that setting.

I have already used a registry cleaner recommeded by Flrman1 from the secuirty site but this did not help with this right click and desktop wallpaper problem.

Thanks in advance

Im using 64-Bit version of Vista and ive noticed that my 64-bit synaptics driver for the mousepad on my Acer laptop seems to 'forget' its settings??

i set it to run at boot and set so that the control pad inbetween the left and right buttons can scroll pages up/down and browse back/forward and a slider (up/down) on the mousepad itself - now the mousepad slider setting stays working but the centre control button stops working - and if I go into the settings and set it again it doesnt work?? re-install fixes this for a moment

can anyone help with this? i really like the browse back+forth option as it helps speed up my browsing

Sometimes when starting up my Windows 8.1 laptop, the scroll setting will be set to scroll one line per tick scroll. When I go to the mouse settings on the control panel, it says "5" lines per mouse scroll (which is what I have it set to.), however it only ticks one. This means every single time this happens, I have to reset the setting to 5, despite it already being there.

I do not know how to reproduce this issue, though would love this minor nuisance to be fixed.

The title pretty much says it all. The trackpad changes settings after the computer wakes from sleep. I have the right click disabled, and inertia scrolling enabled, and after waking up these settings change to defaults I assume.

What can I do to fix this?

Thank you

A:Trackpad/mouse settings change after waking from sleep

Did you click the "apply" after making the changes? which touchpad is in your laptop? you could try uninstalling the current driver and get a new driver for your model from here:Toshiba Drivers & Downloads - Toshiba
Install it and see whether it fixes the problem.

I have a Microsoft Optical IntelliMouse Mouse.
I programmed the mouse wheel click to 'copy' and the right side button to 'paste'
(which is really handy if you cut and paste a lot like I do).

But, anytime the computer has to restart, those 2 settings are lost,
and I have to open the Microsoft Mouse application and click "OK" (and nothing else)
to those 2 settings to work again.

Is there anyway I can get those setting to stick and not be lost when the computer restarts?

A:Microsoft Mouse settings are lost when computer restarts

this sounds like you may need to reinstall the software for the mouse. Uninstall the mouse software, reboot; then reinstall the mouse software, then reboot again to fully initialize the software install. Try that and see if it resolves the issue.

So, I recently upgraded to windows 10, and I was trying to change some settings to do with my mouse, and when I tried to open the additional mouse options: settings>devices>Mouse & Touchpad, but whenever I click "addition mouse options" an error comes up saying "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them" however, I have administrator access on my computer, so I was wondering if anybody had a fix for it.

EDIT: This was working before I upgraded to windows 10 (I was on windows 7)

A:Windows 10 not letting me access advanced mouse settings

Hello Churchy832 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

I could suspect this to be a result of the upgrade from 7 ending up being "Buggy" but I will hold off on that for the time being since you may only need to elevate the status of your user account. What has been seen about 66% or more of the time however with 7 to 10 upgrades is problems of various types!

What you could be seeing there however is the lack of a mouse driver or app suitable for 10 being the actual problem leaving the mouse there running with generic drivers included with 10 and not factory drivers preventing you from getting into the settings if that particular mouse came with a software disk?

If you have a programmable model the app would be what to open to change any settings while with a standard optical mouse you would see the left and right click options, click speed, wheel button option often mouse 3, pointer options, etc. Either the mouse isn't being properly detected or the upgrade may have a problem.

One fast option would be running the SFC tool just to see if that needs to replace any system files that didn't go on fully during the upgrade install. In the Device Manage when looking under "Mouse and Other pointing devices" you can right click on the HD compliant item to select the upgrade driver option to see if 10 will replace what it is using at the present time with the correct driver if the mouse requires one.

Hello there!

I have annoying problem - just have left domain, restored all computer policies to default, but cannot access advanced power settings in control panel.

The thing is, that in domain this setting was disabled, so users can't change any power related settings.

So far I have tried almost everything from google, that involves policy reset to default, power plans reset and so on, but no success.

Screenshot with setting, that won't open.

Any help? Thanks!

I use a Logitech M310 wireless mouse on my Win 7 computer, and I prefer a fast speed. So I typically right click on my desktop and then go to the Personalize screen. From there I click on Change Mouse Pointers, Pointer Options, and then I select a fast pointer speed.

But each time I restart my computer, my fast pointer speed is lost and I'm back to where it started at medium speed.

How can I get my mouse settings to save? My settings for Desktop Background and Screen Saver are saved, but not my mouse pointer speed. Thanks in advance.......

A:Wireless Mouse Settings Aren't Saved in Restart

Have you installed the Logitech mouse software, if not, go to the Logitech website & find the M310 mouse & locate the software download for it making sure you have either the 32 bit or 64 bit version that your Windows 7 is. Download it & then install it.

This will provide you with a program that you can use to customise your mouse settings.

I have applied settings in control panel to make my mouse snap to default in dialogue box. I have done this a number of times. It still doesn't work, except for usually in print routines where it snaps to the Print button.

A:Mouse snap to default - applied settings but still doesn't work

Hello Nick,

I have noticed that it can be pretty sensitive. The slightest movement of the mouse or touchpad when it's suppose to "Snap to" the default button will cause it to not snap.

As a test do a action, say click on the "System Protection" link from within the "System" (Control Panel) window, that will trigger a dialog box, but do not move the mouse/touchpad afterwards to see if may "Snap to" for you.

A:Mouse problem: Any external mouse. Touchpad OK. Mouse OK in Safe Mode.

Hey mate, and welcome,

Possible problem:
1. Mouse itself is bad. Either the button itself or internally
2. Driver is not at its best

Going to the mouse manufacture website to download the most recent driver for your Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit. If it doesn't work, try without any driver (so that windows driver takes over).

Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

When I started up it says Win.ini corrupt. Then it starts
up as a new user losing track of Favorites and Start Menu
and Desktop Icons, Display and Folder attributes. Under
Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in
addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried
switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but
gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.
Is there some way to use the old Dave file?

A:Lost settings, New user made in Documents and Settings

Hiya asd123321.

It sounds like you`ve re-installed the system from CD over the top of an existing system, giving you a fresh `Dave`. Have you recently run a repair or indeed, done a clean install ?

As a work-around, can you take the documents & favourites from the old `Dave` and put them in the new `Dave` so at least you`re back up and running again.

Hello, i have a Samsung Laptop with Windows 7 loaded and there is some software provided by Samsung, one of these "Easy Settings"
I have noticed that the setting for Express Cache Mode and Battery life Extender (and i'm sure a few others have changed) keep randomly switching to OFF when I have set them to be ON.
Has anyone had any experience of this software or have any idea why it could be doing this? I was thinking it could it be a conflict with some Winodws settings?
Any help would be great, cheers.

Hi I don t really use Flash except for when an occasional webpage has something on it I guess I just checked and see that I have Flash Version The latest version on the Flash website is I thought I read something about Settings In Flash? Manager? Settings To Need What Update there being security vulnerabilities in older versions of Flash Would this effect me Should I update to the newest version Are there any downsides to updating Or am I okay with my current version If Need To Update Flash? What Settings In Settings Manager? I do update do I need to download run the Flash uninstaller first Then download install the newest version of Flash I m also wondering what are the best safest settings to have on each tab of the Flash Settings Manager http www macromedia com support document manager html I didn t even realize such a think existed until this morning -- and am wondering if I may have Need To Update Flash? What Settings In Settings Manager? quot unsafe quot settings currently I use Firefox so I don t think I even have Flash installed for IE so I wasn t going to bother downloading the one for that But how can I make sure I don t have Flash for IE installed currently Any help is appreciated -- thanks

A:Need To Update Flash? What Settings In Settings Manager?

1. I cant help you with this one but I will say that most companies recommend their newest versions because they usually include security patchs or other updates.2. I'm not a hundred percent clear on what your asking here but you click the link on this site here to download the installer.;promoid=BIOWWhen it is completely finished downloading, doubleclick the installer icon.Or maybe you were looking specifically for this the second one down. This is the flash player firefox add-on from the Mozilla website.*****I just checked the second link, it only redirects you to the first one.3. I would set all of the options you can to ask. That way if a legitimate Flash object is used you can approve it. If you typing an email (for example) and a suspicious flash alert pops up, you can kill it by denying it. (A small popup box will appear each time a flash object is present. Under the storage options it is up to you how much data you allow to be stored on your computer. I would recommend that you allow no data to be stored. The downside to this is that the Flash videos may take longer to load. For the next two tabs I would set these at Ask again for the reasons stated above. The automatic updates are a preference issue. For Privacy Settings, again I would set all to ask. I frequent youtube, so I set that site only to always allow. For the final storage setting option, again, Always Ask. I made another exception here for youtube. This, I found, make youtube faster while streaming.4. If you open up internet explorer and go to it will tell you your flash player version in a small grey box in the middle of the page.Hope i pointed you in the right direction.

My brother's computer does exactly what the title of this thread says,no matter what mode he uses to boot up. He was restarting his computer after running Ad-aware. Now he cant get past the logon screen because it immediately saves his settings and returns to the logon screen. Happens in safe mode as well.

Thank you for any help.

I'm on Windows 8.1 and I can't find this for the life of me (metro/modern UI settings).
Had made all of it pink at some point in the past, and don't use it much. Now I want to change it to a different colour because I plan to use it.

I open "Computer Settings" from the "charm bar", and for people making videos about it on Youtube, they have "Personalize" as the first option you see.

I can't find it. Clicking on Personalization inside the Modern UI opens up the regular Control Panel which doesn't have the modern bits in it.

When I do manage to open Personalization, it has only avatar, desktop and lock screen.

Just to clarify what I mean, I want to change the colour that's cerise/pink in the picture below.
Any tips appreciated!

A:Opening the settings for metro/modern UI settings

Hello Martienne,

Be sure that you are on your Start screen when you open the Settings charm to see Personalize.

The pinkish color on the left side of your screenshot would be the accent color you select.

If you like, Option One in the tutorial below will give more details to help.

A:Diagnostic software for lock ups jumpy mouse curser and mouse is slow to react.

Good Morning mayersr, I don't know of software applicable for this kind of problem apart from malware products.
Are you aware this symptom is very likely a viral kind of problem.
What is the system and specs and what kind of malware and A/V do you have?
Cheers, qldit.

I got an optical mouse with a scroll wheel for Christmas last year and the scroll wheel won't work on anything (IE, Compuserve, Netscape).
It has no brand name anywhere on the mouse so I can't look for a new driver. It came from Office Depot and it has no disk/CD. When I plugged it in it did not load anything else and I tried Add/Remove Hardware, but it didn't find anything new. Is there anything else I can do?

Hi all,
As the title says i occasionally get this problem. My computer qwill freeze for a few seconds followed by system lag which seems to get worse (freezing every few seconds/taking 2 seconds to recognise a click etc.). If i reset my computer it resolves the issue but i was hoping you guys may be able to give me more insight as to what the issue may be.

It nearly always happens when i am browsing in firefox. Have never had it happen to me during gaming etc. which is why i'm hesitant to believe it is to do with my GPU or it's drivers which are always kept up to date.

i have included pics of the cursor and what processes were running at the time of the freeze/lag

A:Mouse freezes, followed by system lag and mouse icon turns fuzzy *pics

What security software do you have installed? Please list anything realtime that scans for spyware, malware, viruses, provides a firewall, etc.
Also, even though you are not getting a blue screen:

Those will help us determine application/system hangs, as well. They include your Event Viewer logs.
