I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm installing a new motherboard to my computer and I cannot seem to get the power on button to work. The motherboard is receiving power but I can't turn it on. I'm not even sure what information you would need in order to help me out. Anything you ask I can provide. I'm unsure of what case I have.

A blinking amber power LED usually indicates a failed power supply, replace the power supply with a 'known' working unit, to see if this makes a difference.
Which version of the Optiplex 390 do you have, the Mini Tower, Desktop, or the Small form Factor?

My pc won't power on, this problem has been happening lately. If the power goes out in my house, I am unable to turn my pc back on. I have a solid orange light on my power button. Could it be a power supply problem? Can anyone help?

When the pc is on, it runs fine.

A:Dell Optiplex GX60 won't power on

The power outages in your house stresses the PC's power supply to the point of failure. Have the power supply in the PC replaced and invest in a good surge protection scheme, to protect the PC better next time

Hello all!

My work computer is on a network and every time the power surges or goes out, our hp 6940 series printer resets its IP. the only way to print is to reconfigure the ports in the control panel. is there a way to prevent this from happening or perhaps assign a static address for it?

Thank you in advance

A:power supply over heated on a dell optiplex 740

Do you mean "heat sink" rather than "power supply"?
You didn't say which form factor 740 you have, mini-tower, desktop or small form, but go here and look at the motherboard diagram for whichever model you have to find the location of the fan connector on the board.
Make sure the PC is powered off, unplugged and you press/hold the power button for ~15 sec before you do anything inside the case.

Hey,Dear i have problem with my desktop dell optiplex 9020 the problem is when i tried to power on it is not powering on but i can see that the power button is still orange but it is not powering on.

A:Power issue with dell optiplex 9020

Hi ,
Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum!
Here when the power button is  orange it indicates that the system is receiving power but not sufficient power to transmit it to the system's components.
However I would suggest you to try these steps and advise the result ,
*Disconnect the system from wall socket and press ,hold the power button where in we are releasing the static charge from the system ,then connect the system back to the wall socket and turn on the system .
*To confirm if the power supply unit is working fine would ask you to perform the power supply unit Built in self test where in behind the system where the power cord connects to the system you will be able to see a tiny black button with a green radial bulb next to it .When that button is pressed if the green light glows then power supply unit is working fine.
*Confirm the power button has a steady orange  light or blinking orange and also if you hear any beeps from the system .
Can you also provide your computer model ,service tag of the system (via private message) to perform model specific troubleshooting. Hope to hear from you soon.
Have a great day ahead !

I need a better power supply so I can add a better video card. The power supply that comes with my SDT is really small and long and only 210W. They don't make official power supplies with more watts.

I've heard that the 1u server power supplies are the same size and should work with my SDT if it is ATX12V compliant. My question is will the power supply from a Dell PowerEdge 850 work in my Optiplex SDT? The part number for the PowerEdge's power supply is T3504.

Is there anything I need to take into account (connectors etc.)?

I'm new at this and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Chris

Our Dell Optiplex 740 PC won't come on. The "power-on" button is blinking green, indicating that it is in the "power-saving mode". No matter what I do it will not come back on. The DVD will not open even. Unplug it and restore power and nothing happens but the blinking green light. Is this indicative of a power supply failure? Thanks

My refurbished dell optiplex GX280 worked fine until a month or so ago when I moved it to another room in my home. When I powered up, the power light was blinking amber. I tried all of the options that did not require buying new parts du to financial reasons, so it's sat since then.

I just decided to look at it again and powered it on. Everything seemed to start OK but no dispay. The diagnostic lights indicated faulty memory. I then located and removed the faulty DIMMM, and it started right up.

About ten minutes later the computer shut off by itself back to the blinking amber power light.

Any info would be appreciated Thank you. :grinthumb

A:Dell Optiplex 780 (DT) auto start for a few seconds when turn on power strips!

That's perfectly NORMAL!
When you turn on the power strip, the PC thinks it's recovering from a power failure. So it powers itself up to check to see how the BIOS power option is set for recovery from a power failure.
If BIOS is set to "Do nothing", PC turns itself off again.
If BIOS is set to "Restart after power failure", it automatically boots without you having to press the power button.
So if you're lazy, you can set BIOS to reboot automatically after power failures. And when you turn the power strip on, the PC boots and you won't have to press the power button.

Hi,
I have an old Optiplex GX240 that had its power supply break, I recently got another power supply from a different computer. The Power supply is working however there is an orange light on the motherboard and power button that doesn't flash. The ABCD lights on the back of the computer are also not lit.

A:Orange Light On Power Button and Motherboard - Dell Optiplex GX240

GX240 requires specific NON PFC power supply.  This unit is 16 years old now and has 512 meg ram of the PC133 variety.   A newer model like an optiplex GX620 or better is still viable.  This system is TOO OLD and TOO Slow to be of any use.

I bought this a couple of years ago from a local computer store. It's been very reliable and I run Ubuntu 16.04 Linux on it. This afternoon I had a power drop of a second or so and since then when trying to boot the issue in the subject happens. I can get to boot as usual by pressing the power supply test button which gives me a green light on the power supply and then pressing the power button will let it boot normally. I don't have any version of Windows installed so it's not possible to run any diagnostic unless there are some Linux based ones.
Thanks for any help

A:Dell Optiplex 780 MiniTower, power light flashes amber diagnostic lights 1 & 3 flash

Blinking Amber power: Initial state of light at power up. Indicates system has power, but the POWER_GOOD signal is not yet active. If the Hard Drive light is off, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the Hard Drive light on, it is probable that an onboard regulator or VRM has failed. Look at the diagnostic lights for further information.
1+3:  Memory modules are detected, but a memory configuration or compatibility error has occurred.
You could try resetting BIOS to see if you can clear the error.

Reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup
Copy down all current BIOS settings
Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove motherboard battery
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reseat RAM modules in their slots
Reinstall battery- good time for new CR2032 coin cell, if this one is old
Close case and reboot

If that helps, go back into BIOS setup, and confirm that all settings match what you wrote down. Be sure to save any changes before exiting setup.

A:Dell XPS 12 - Won't start / power up after hard reset

OK - I've narrowed it down to the following:
When the laptop is "asleep" it eventually goes into power down mode. It appears that connecting a power adapter to the laptop at this point will cause it to go into a confused state where, when the power button is pushed,  the laptop fan comes on but no light on the power button or on the keyboard - the screen  stays blank.  The laptop fan runs (it's very quiet - you have to hold the laptop up to your ear to hear it.)
I don't know if the cause is a low battery or if the problem is simply with the state of the CPU at power down.  I just know that when it happens, it if I disconnect the power adapter and hold the power button until the laptop fan shuts off, the hard reset allows it to come back normally.  If you leave the power adapter attached, it will charge the battery but will not allow the laptop to start.
I've repeated this experiment several times with the same result every time. I'm guessing there's a bug in the BIOS that sets an error state that won't clear with the power adapter attached. Doing the hard reset without the adapter appears to clear the problem reliably.

Basically, I bought a new Thermaltake case and the front panel wires (5) are labeled power sw, reset sw, HDD led, power led +, and power led -. On many motherboards the connectors on the mobo are conveniently labeled to make attaching them a breeze. Unfortunately, this is not the case on the mobo that came with my Dell inspiron i purchased last year. It is labeled LEDH1 and has no hints in the Dell manual as to what is what.  This is driving me crazy.
The mobo DPN is 088DT1 but I can't find its manual.

This has the old drivers listed of multiple versions including the XP x64 drivers not mentioned on Drivers and Downloads. The new ftp website is slightly broken at present.

What should I try next?

From the (desktop) manual: Blinking amber light indicates a problem with the system board.

We just received a shipment of new PCs for our computer labs, and the new systems don't have reset buttons. I've noticed this on my friends' newer systems lately, too. What's up with that? Why would "they" stop putting reset buttons on systems? Are "they" that confident that newer OSes won't hang and therefore there's no need to reset???

When the PC starts up, the dell loading screen begins. Normally this takes around a few seconds but this time it didn't end. We've tried all the diagnostic tests and they all came back fine. Also tried disconnecting all external cables (ie headphones, ethernet etc). Powered on and off multiple times and no change.
By the way, I don't know if this is related or not, but last night before the issue occurred, I was randomly logged out. Once it logged me back in, everything was closed and there was a small square of like TV static towards the bottom right corner. I restarted and it fixed the issue there but I don't know.
Thanks in advance, Sean

Hi,

I manage a fleet of 200 linx 8 tablets all running win 10 home.

I need to issue a 'fix' that HIBERNATES the tablet rather than entering sleep when pressing the power button

I will need to do this programatically - bundled within an .exe that I'm building - so the solution would ideally be an import of a new reg key....

BUT what do I need to change and where?

I think whatever I do, I may also need to enable hibernation, and disable connected standby. Also, as it may sometimes be mains and sometimes battery powered, cover both power scenarios.

Apologies if I am repeating a previously asked question.

many thanks

Hi
Dell OptiPlex 7010 came preinstalled with Win 7 64 bit and a Win 8.x DVD. Original partitions are intact.
We needed to restore the pc to Win 7 factory settings as pc is playing up. We went into Windows Recovery (F8 at start up and Recovery option). Tried Dell Backup and Recovery, nothing happened.
Rebooted into Win 7 and used the Dell Backup and Recovery software to create the factory reset USB media.  Booted from the media and still Dell Backup and Recovery option does nothing.
Downloaded Dell backup and Recovery software with new interface. It tries to prepare environment for a long time and then fails and uninstalls itself.
What are we missing and how can we reset the pc to the Win 7 factory settings?
Thanks

Hey,

Where have you downloade Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility? I have done a Google search and it seems that Satellite M645 is an US model and therefore all drivers and tools can be downloaded here:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com

Make sure you download the correct version of VAP and Flash Cards Support Utility. That means if you have Windows 7 64bit you have to download the 64bit version too.

Another question: Have you installed all other drivers like chipset?

Also try to load the default settings in BIOS and test it again.

Hi
Please assistance with this unfortunate case. I have a BRAND NEW dell inspiron 13, 7000 series. Had not been in use for more than 3 days...
I have problems connecting with the WIFI (although all other devices in my apartment connect smoothly to the router). WIFI button does not turn, switch refuses to move to ON. Red X on the wifi network at the right hand bottom corner...
I have read some articles suggesting to go the device manager, network adapter and update driver, but when I expand network adapter I only have 2 Bluetooth devices listed. Nothing about WIFI.... please HELP!!
Second issue - tried to reboot several times as the laptop did connect to the internet for 2 minutes on reboot. All times, reboot fails and I get the following message: Driver Power State Failure.
Please, I hope you can help me with this awful experience with Dell laptop.

This may help, open the start menu, and click settings, and then click the “Devices” icon, then on the left column please select “Mouse & touchpad”. Click on the “additional mouse options” link under Related Settings. This will bring up mouse properties, click the buttons tab and then under Click Lock, uncheck the box for “Turn on Clicklock” and see if that helps.

You may also wish to turn off Tablet Mode, again click the start menu, then settings; you will be able to find Tablet Mode on the left. Turn it off and see if it makes a difference.

Hello,I purchased an Optiplex 380 a couple of years ago which came with 2x2GB RAM @ 1066Mhz and now I think time has come to upgrade to at least 8GB. So, I tried a kingston value ram of 4gb @ 1333Mhz and unfortunately it beeped with 1 and 3 diagnostic LEDs lit. I know that the Dell manual says a maximum of 4GB ram but I have seen people here on dell forums running 2x4GB without any problems, so according to my thinking, maybe the bus frequency is the problem? shall I try 1066Mhz? Crucial's site also suggests up to 1600Mhz so whats the confusion here?P.S. I have latest BIOS A07 flashed.

A:Dell Optiplex 380 max RAM

Hi,
Thank you for reaching out.
Did you try 8GB(4+4) or Does it beeps even with a 4GB stick in one slot?
Try each stick on both the slots, If that fails, you may try 1066 mhz.
P.S:  We haven't tested 8GB configuration on this motherboard from the factory, If none of the steps works, You may have to revert back to 4GB.
Thanks.

Trying to fix this thing up for my grandaughter. It has a 200 mh. processor 128MB ram and a 40GB hard drive. Now it seems that the mb. drive controller is inop. At least that is what it says when I try to boot. I was told that it wouldn't support the 40 GB drive anyway so I bought a PCI ATA card. By the way I installed a 6GB. drive to see if the MB.would boot it,and it said the same thing. How can I get it to boot? It seems impossible because I need the PCI card to get to the drive and the system needs the driver for the PCI card to run the drive. Is there any chance???

my guess would be that this was after some kind of storm or power surge. can you see the bios loading? in order to diagnose this you will have to have parts that are known to be good and go through the machine one piece at a time. The main suspects right now is the power supply, CPU, or the mother board. Do you get any audable beeps when it is trying to start up?

A:Help With Dell Optiplex 745

Minitower Optiplex 745:
Supported microprocessor types: Intel® Pentium® 4, Pentium® D, Celeron®, or Core™ processor
DDR2 RAM should be installed in matched pairs so you'd need to install 2 of them. But there's no point installing 4 GB of RAM with a 32-bit version of Windows which can only use ~3.0 - 3.5 GB of RAM. Note, this system supports 2 GB RAM modules but only those running at 533, 667 MHz. It doesn't support 2 GB modules running at 800 MHz, but apparently will support smallar modules running at 800 MHz.

Hi everyone,

I have been looking up about getting a replacement for my existing CPU which is an Intel Core i5 (Version: 2400) and upgrading to the new Intel Core i5 4460 which does support HD better for what I needed, such as movies and gaming (I only need up to 60FPS).

But other than that, I have been looking either at a portable GPU. The GPU is called a Zotac GeForce GTX 960 4GB (from NVidia). I just want to know if this will fit and will it work well with my PC?

I just want to know if the new Intel Core i5 4460 will fit in the Optiplex 390's motherboard, the same for the Zoatac GeForce GTX 960 4GB GPU.

But I would be interested to see what you have come up with any other CPU/GPU recommendations for this Dell Optiplex 390 Desktop.

Many thanks,

Ben

A:New CPU/GPU for Dell Optiplex 390

Because the optiplex comes in three form factors, which one is it? The Desktop ones? or the smaller one?

Anyways, to be able to upgrade to a Haswell processor you'll need a new motherboard aswell (Those with H81 chipset will do). The Zotac GTX 960 will work provided you have enough juice from the PSU to be able to supply the graphics card

That PC uses SATA drive controllers . . Installing XP on a SATA drive requires an additional step:

http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...ws_xp_on_a.htm

However, Most newer BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting,

change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( could be IDE Mode, Compatibility Mode or Legacy Mode - different BIOS use different terms )

some will say IDE instead of ATA)

If there are no such settings you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD, follow the instructions in this guide :

http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slip...rs-into-xp-cd/

or

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/

You can get a reinstallation guide specific to your Dell here
http://support.dell.com/support/topi...n&s=dhs&~ck=mn

Are you using the Dell Reinstalltion disc? . . if so is it SP3? Those have the Intell SATA drivers

This is a continuation of my earlier thread which says it is locked:

https://forums.techguy.org/threads/compaq-presario-particulars.1161610/

Alas, the unit recommended to me in that thread is sold out.

I have been looking at similar units of the same model number but, as best I can tell, although they have the same name/model, the Dell Optiplex 780 seems to come in two different case sizes, a MF and a SFF, the SFF being the smaller of the two.

The SFF seem to be the more plentiful and about $50 more expensive, while having only 1TB SATA compared to the MT having 2TB.

Am I right in thinking that there are indeed two case sizes; and, if so, which is the preferable ?

Thanks.

I just purchased a (barely) used Optiplex 960 from my office (my employers often sell used equipment to employees if they want to get rid of it).  It's in great shape, clean, and all the hardware seems to work, except for the fan speed controller.  I know it's supposed to adjust the speed of the cooling fan depending on how hot the CPU is getting, but it's not doing that.  The fans seem to stay on low / medium speed even when the CPU is pushing 70 degrees C according to Speedfan...which is WAY too hot.  The only way I can get the fan to speed up is by disabling the auto-speed control in the BIOS and leave it on 100% constantly.
Anybody have any suggestions?  Is the temperature controller damaged, or do these systems normally run hot?  Thanks!

Hi, I recently bought this new Dell Optiplex 745 SFF computer off of my brother and I really need to upgrade this damn video card. I can't stand integrated. But since it is a Small Form Factor case, I am supposed to get an SFF video card. Well, I don't want one. So I was wondering if I can just modify the innards of the case and leave the door off and will it be fine to just use a normal non-low-profile Video Card in this case? It is PCI-E so if you know of any good cards for under $75 throw them at me, I just want to play The new Borderlands game. Thank you all.

A:Dell Optiplex 745 SFF Question

Sure, leave the cover off. The motherboard is the same as the full width Optiplex 745, so if your office space is secure to prevent a cat or a box of Oreos from getting in there, you can do what you wish. I would cover the opening with a treated cheese cloth or other dust and lint preventative.
You can also find a lot of video cards where the only change need is the size of the install end. Take the hardware off an old junker card with matching components, you will be happy.
The real problem is that Optiplex power supply will not work well with some video graphics cards due to power demands.

Sometimes when I turn it on, the power button light is dim gold, it blinks along with a blinking green light on the zip drive. At other times I get it to boot into windows(XPpro). Could it be the power button, it's like an art to turning on this thing.

A:Dell Optiplex gx240

You may have a motherboard with bad capacitors. A Google search turns up a number of hits with people having that problem with certain production runs of Dell Optiplex models.

With the computer turned off, look for any electrolytic capacitors (shiny aluminum cans with heat-shrink plastic covering) that are bulging or oozing liquid.

Hello Forum-I have an old dell desktop optiplex G1. It has worse than lousy 2 mb of video.Appearantly this video is on board as I can see no card, though it appears it has slots to accept cards. I looked every where on the net(or almost), but very limited info is available for the upgradability of this old unit. I seen some video cards(32 & 64mb) on ebay that looked as though they may fit slots, but I`m not sure they would work. Also could this grampa`s CPU be upgraded to say PIII(100or133 mhz bus). If so what parts may I need to upgrade? Thank-You very much for your knowledgeable advice.

A:Upgradability for Dell Optiplex G1

Not a lot you can do with that system. I don't believe there is an AGP video slot, but you should be able to add a PCI (not PCIe) video card. It's a Pentium II so the best you could do would be to upgrade to a faster PII. Since it's got a 400 that just leaves the 450 and that would be a useless upgrade.

In the end I can't see that it's worth doing anything with it.

That product ID is for Dell Windows 7 Professional using OEM System Locked Preinstallation. It is not a Product Key. See here for more details:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/windows-7-sp1-iso-download/
Note you can also clean install Windows 10 RS1 and activate with your Windows 7 pro OEM Product key but that key should be printed separately on the systems affixed COA:

Hi,
I have a Dell optiplex 745 with pentium d 3.4ghz. recently i began getting blurring and horizontal line on screnn which rectify when disconnecting ad reconnecting the monitor. It has now died. First the thrid warning light was not showing which think indicates a graphics problem which is integrated. i am now getting nothing fromm it. The fan comes on and the motherboard light but no output whatsover. The standby button has gone from green when working to orange which i think indicates a problem?? Any advice to whether it could be a motherboard/ processor or other problem would be greatly appreciated

A:dell optiplex dead?

First off, the amber light on the monitor means simply that the monitor is turned on but not getting a signal from the computer. So, I think your problem is in the computer.

These are the possibilities as I see them in roughly their most likely to least likely order:
Bad power supply
Bad video card
Bad main board or processor or both
Bad memory chip

Disconnecting and reconnecting a digital monitor can fry a main board or processor.

i recently got a dell optiplex gx280 from my dad and i was wondering of anyone could show me the way to a 64x cpu
current specs:
cpu:2.80 ghz 2 logical cores 1 real
ram:4gb 3gb useable
video:radeon 3400 1.5gb ram
operating system:ubuntu 14.04

A:x64 bit cpu for old dell optiplex gx280

There is no point to X64 cpu in this model.  The GX620 is the same and has a 3.5 gig ram limit based on a chipset limitation not on 64 bit OS or not. You have a Hyper thread single core P4.
Zero advantage to EMT64 cpu on this model.
Intel didn't implement 64 bit until the 600 series on socket 775
The GX280 is too old.  The GX620 can go all the way to windows 10 but it too cannot take advantage of more than 3.50 gigs of ram regardless of the physical amount installed.

Last night I opened it up to see where a second drive would go and I don't really see an obvious spot for one. Nor do I see connectors around where the current hard drive is. Does anyone know if this PC can accept a second HD?

A:Add a second HD to Dell Optiplex GX280?

It can if you remove the floppy drive and mount the hard drive in that spot. You'll need to use an IDE cable with two connectors and use it for the CD/DVD and the new hard drive. I don't recall if there was a SATA connection on the motherboard, if so that would be the way to go.

Everything was working fine until yesterday but now my Dell computer won't turn on. In case it helps, we have Windows 7 professional installed, hardware Intel Core TM i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHZ, 4GB RAM, 64-bit OS.
I tried unplugging everything, plugging power cable back in and holding power button for 20 seconds but no luck.
Help?

A:Dell Optiplex 990 won't turn on

Hello akurnyc,
Try disconnecting the power cable & then holding the power button for about 10 seconds (this forces the capacitors to discharge).  If that doesn't help, try using a different outlet.  If you're using a surge protector, power strip, or battery backup/UPS, then try connecting directly to the wall.
Let us know what you find out.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270. It is a SFF. Is this equivalent to a Micro-ATX?
I wish to replace motherboards and use a ZOTAC 9300-A-E.

A:Dell Optiplex GX270

Hi

Dell use their own PSU's in these models and you can only use the correct board.

I am resurrecting this 2002 built PC for general home use for a beginner, it will have WIN 7 as the OS.
I plan to install a 60GB SSD for the OS only, can I install a second HD?
Does it need an AGP or other card?.

A:DELL Optiplex GX260

just as an fyi, you are going to run into issues putting 7 on that system. It was designed for XP, and 7 didn't exist at the time, so you will have a very hard time finding compatible drivers for it.

The motherboard in my Dell Optiplex needs replacing nbsp There is no fault with any other component Dell UK will not help me because apparently my computer is a non-retail model I bought it from eBay around months ago There are so many Dell repair agents here in London but ALL of them only offer their service for Dell laptops Other repair facilities appear reluctant to take a Dell computer apart supposedly because Dell computers are quot unlike quot other computers There are two options I would willingly consider Have the motherboard in my existing computer replaced Find someone to remove the Hard Drive copy a small amount of the data on the Drive specifically the four folders - Documents Pictures Music Videos onto a USB stick allowing me to then dump my Dell Optiplex as a bad experience and invest in another make of co mputer What I need is the address of any repair outlet in Greater London that can perform either of the two nbsp Any assistance would be much appreciated

A:Dell Optiplex 755 -- can I install a GTX 460?

Hello maaz, I do believe a GTX 460 would fit inside of the case, but it would be a tight fit, also, you'd need to upgrade your PSU to handle the new GPU.
How much are you looking to spend?

I am unable to open Microsoft Outlook (probable hard drive problem - I keep getting the message that the program is not responding). My question: Is there a way to retrieve data from the system, such as contact list, calendar, and e-mails (inbox, sent items, draft, etc.)? I'd like to copy this data onto another computer with a USB flash drive.
