Do I need a new processor to improve my graphics or do I just need a new graphics card?

Q: Do I need a new processor to improve my graphics or do I just need a new graphics card?

Manufacturer: Dell
Model: Inspiron 1545
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4400 @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 3.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System

I checked the ratings of my components and they came out like this (scale of 1.0 to 7.9):
Processor: 5.5
Memory (RAM): 5.5
Graphics: 3.9
Gaming Graphics: 3.4
Primary hard disk: 5.8

What do I need to do to improve the graphics of my laptop? Do I need to get a new laptop?

*Additional information: I live stream on twitch.tv and I want a good set up for gaming preferably on the computer I currently have. Some of the games I try to play have a lot of lag during the streams and I tried everything to reduce it, but I think it is just my graphics card isn't strong enough. If you want to check out my stream here is the link: www.twitch.tv/diirtyxweezy

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This laptop is not a great gaming laptop. There's nothing you can upgrade on it. If you are serious about gaming, use a up-gradable desktop PC or be prepared to spend a great deal more money on a gaming laptop

Hey guys, I'm new to this website (and I'm not very good with technology at all) so please bear with me.

I recently got Minecraft for my computer but the problem is that it lags too much. I have NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (it's an integrated one).

I was told that upgrading it would greatly reduce lag. I don't really play any other games on my computer so I don't want a ridiculously expensive one.

My CPU is AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
I have 4 gigs of RAM.
Any suggestions? I heard that if I just install an external card, my computer would just ignore the integrated one. Is that true?
Thank you very much in advance...

Yes you've got all the information correct.
If you have any information about your power supply, do post it here.
Someone else who's smarter will probably have an actual graphics card recommendation.

Hey everyone.

Not sure if this is the right section to post this in, but I will give it a shot.
I am looking to upgrade my graphics card. I currently have a 9600GT and my processor is an intel duo core E8400 @3.0gz still so I think I may be fine there.

I do a lot of gaming, and would just like something a bit better. My budget is about $350, give or take a little.
Any advice would be great, and I would prefer using newegg.com since I have a gift card for that site, and also my bank gives me 1% back of every dollar I spend, I know it's not that much but .

Also I am willing to buy a refurbished or open box card, but not sure what I am lookin for. Thanks guys!

i have gradually updated almost everything in my pc - 3 GB RAM, 1 TB hard disk and all
but for games to run well which is the immedately required upgrade - graphics or processor?? I know both are required but for this month's quota which is recommended to be upgraded?? I plan to get a 1 GB graphics(Nvidia) and 3 GHz processor(AMD or Intel)
P.S. could not include system specs because the SysInfo tool wont display my system information

Hello.

I recently upgraded my graphic card from a 8600 GTS to a HD4850.
My processor is a Pentium D 940, 3.2 Ghz.

I haven't seen big improvements on fps etc. in games, and when surfing the internet I've seen people getting much higher fps in games, such as crysis, with the same card.

I'm not a "nerd" in this subject, but i wonder if my processor aint good enough for my gfx?

If that's true, I've been thinking about upgrading to a C2D E8400.
Would this be a sufficient choice for my HD4850?

My motherboard is an AsRock 4Core1600Twins-P35 .

A:Can a processor be slowing down a graphics card?

Yes, a processor CAN bottleneck a video card. But, so can running a low resolution (lower resolutions tend to push the processor instead of the GPU).

A:Graphics card and Processor suggestions.

Well im no gfx expert so im not even going to go there but as your only talking cpu and not mobo then i take it your sticking with the LGA1155 (?P5Q Pro) socket so depending whether your board supports 22nm gen 3 ivy chips or not will be a factor and then your price limited to what you want to get but IMO thats not a bad processor and cant see it limiting you in games but if you are going to change it then its how much you want to spend and if you want to step up to i7

Ok, here's the deal. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. It has a 1.6GHz AMD Turion processor. It also has an ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 Graphics card. I'm not sure how much memory it has and I don't know how to find out, but I think it's either 128MB or 256MB. Probably the former.

I wish to run a game that requires a 2.4GHz processor and a 256MB graphics card.

I know very little about what processors/graphics cards are compatible with my computer or how much they cost.

What are my options?

im having intel pentium dual core E2160 processor @1.8ghz.
and a 2gb ddr2 ram @ 667mhz
and the motherboard is GIGABYTE GA G31M-S2L. the motherboard has one PCI express x 1 slot and one PCI express x 16 slot.
the chipsets are G31 express chipset (north) and ICH7 (south).
now how can i know what are all the graphics cards compatible to it.

graphics cards have core speed and memory speed. what should be these values for moderate gaming.
do i get a driver disk and few games on purchase of graphics card.
what is the use of graphics memory. what will be the use if it is a higher value like 1gb.

A:How can we know the compatibility of graphics card with motherboard, processor and RA

Look for any graphics card that is "pci express x16" compatible.

Some gpus come with free bundled games and such.. all of them come with a driver disk, and are very easy to update from the manufacturers website.

Graphics card memory is less important than overall core, mem speed.

Ensure whatever you choose, your power supply is up to the job, as a lot of these cards require extra power to run.

Hope this helps

A:Solved: Opinion : Laptop processor vs graphics card

Hey,

What's the processor in the laptop at the moment? If it's lower than 1.6GHZ, then according to the CC3 requirements a processor upgrade would be much more beneficial than a graphics card upgrade. If the processor exceeds 1.6GHZ then a graphics card upgrade would be ideal for what the computer will be used for - but before you purchase anything please get back and let us know the full specifications for the computer or a link to the laptop in question.

I'm buying my daughter a new computer. I have limited money so I'm thinking referbished. I have a couple of Dells. Both choices have AMD Athlon processors. One is 64 Duel Core, the other is x2 processor. I'm not sure if one is better or both the same. I learned a lot from reading the forum on this sight but I'm still a litttle confused. Both of the computers have integrated nvidia Quadro nvs 210s graphics. She mainly uses it for internet (UTube video) and Sims. She plays sims 2, and just got Sims 3 but her old computer is not capable. Sims 3 requirements name many nvidia Ge Force, Radian (several) and intel GMA 3 & 4 series. The Quadro is not included, is that because it's to new or because Quadro is actually for business application?

A:Solved: Graphics card & processor compatible with Sims 3?

Hi cinnamon555,

According to the offcial Nvidia Quadro geforce 210 website: http://www.nvidia.in/object/product_geforce_210_in.html , Sims3 are well supported:
Modern games and 3D applications demand more graphics performance than ever before and Intel integrated graphics simply aren’t good enough. With 16 processing cores, the GeForce 210 delivers over 10x the performance1 of Intel integrated solutions! If you want to play popular mainstream games like World of Warcraft, Spore or Sims3, the GeForce 210 is an essential addition to your PC.Click to expand...

Hope it helps.

Hey everyone, I'm just getting into computer building, I have much to learn but was wondering if I should just upgrade my computer or buy a whole new one, for gaming. My specs are as follows. Simply reply, if you want anymore info!! Thank you for any and all input!

Computer: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+ 1.80 GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM Physical Address Extension

A:Help with either upgrading or building a new computer? Processor, graphics card etc

Hi there,
It would help to know what resolution you wish to game at, level of detail you would expect, types of games etc. short of that, I would recommend a complete new build just because of the Sempron. besides being a single core CPU, it is one of the least capable CPU's on the food chain, as well as being rather dated now. If you can provide the details listed above, and a budget, one or more of us will be glad to help with budget/use appropriate build suggestions.

I have a AMD Quad-core processor A6-3400M and a graphics card that is AMD Radeon HD 6520G with 512 MB. Is my computer good enough for the hd hauppauge? If so should I get the regular or the gaming edition? so if i can run the roxio game capture could i run either of these?
the specs needed for the regular are.....
Processor Requirements (minimum): Dual core CPU 2.0GHz or faster
Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit), Windows Vista or Windows XP service pack 2 (32-bit)
Graphics with 256MB memory (or greater)
Sound card
CD-ROM drive for installing the HD PVR software

A:Is my processor and graphics card good enough for the regular hd hauppauge?

According to your specs and their recommended specs you should be fine as long as your OS is one of their recommended ones. As far as regular or gaming edtiton - gzrabbed from another site -

Differences between the HD PVR model 1212 and the HD PVR Gaming EditionThere are two versions of HD PVR: the HD PVR model 1212 and the HD PVR Gaming Edition. Here are the differences:
•HD PVR 1212 includes a IR blaster cable to control your cable or satellite set top box channel changing. HD PVR Gaming Edition has a Component Video cable for easy connection to an Xbox 360 or PS3.
•Both HD PVR and HD PVR Gaming Edition have our "no delay pass through" for recording live TV or video
•HD PVR model 1212 contains Arcsoft Total Media Extreme plus Arcsoft Media Convert. Media Convert allows you to change the format of your recordings so you can view them on a iPad or other portable media player. HD PVR Gaming Edition contains Arcsoft ShowBiz with capture and upload to YouTube. A media converter is not included in the HD PVR Gaming Edition.
•HD PVR uses a blue record ring to indicate that recording is taking place. The HD PVR Gaming Edition uses a green record ring."""
Thats all the real differences!

IMHO I would go with the regular and not the gaming because of the lack of video converter and the fact I don't use component video for anything these days but your situation that may be a + for you.

Hi, I have a EVGA e-GeForce 7600GT 256 MB PCIe Video Card which supports the SLI technology allowing me to link up 2 or more graphics cards for greater performance. Now this card has DDR3 memory. I wanted to know if I can link it up with a DDR2 memory graphics card which also supports SLI. If I can, how will this difference affect performance?

Which card?? "A card with DDR3 memory", or "A thingy with a red switch on it" tell us just as much.
But if it's not another 7600 GT you're trying to SLi, just forget it, especially if you're going to buy the other card.

Hey I was wondering, how do you make good looking graphics on a video game. Is it in the poly count, or does it depend on the quality of the textures that you use, or does the way you use lighting make the biggest impact? I mean you see several games come out at about the same time, and one game might look fantastic (like crysis 2 for example) and another might look just OK or really bad considering the standard. What exactly makes the graphics look so good?

A:Graphics card doesn't post any graphics to my monitor, computer boots up fine

Its usually just the graphics cards, they do fail especially if they overheat - then video card fan not speeding up might have been the problem - most are dynamic and should actually speed up under load. Depending on the manufacturer of your 8800GTX you might be able to get it replaced under warranty if they have a 3 year or greater warranty.

A:Whats a Good Graphics card for Gaming and using Adobe Software-Graphics

7...

I've done a lot of research on this because I built a new system back in August. While I am not much of a gamer, I needed a very good NLE machine. However, the card I chose is quite the gamer card but had all the extras I needed to run Adobe Video Collection.

I picked the Connect 3D Radeon X850XT Platinum card from Tigerdirect. At the time it was $350 but I know it's cheaper now. It's got everything you need for a demanding application like Premiere Pro 1.5 and its related software. 256MB of GDDR3 memory and dual DVI outs. I highly recommend this card. I've been using it since the start of September with Adobe and it's great.

Your CPU and memory are a bit more of an important factor with rendering and burning though. My new PC has a 3.4Ghz P4 and 2GB of 533Mhz dual channel RAM. It's an exceptional increase in speed and productivity over my old 2.4Ghz and 512 Rambus.

Hi for the last months ive been trying to fix a but Nvidia Random not card with restarts card graphics graphics AMD problem that ive been having with my computer about months ago I did a major pc upgrade where i replaced my motherboard processor ram heat sink power supply and case the only things I used from the original computer where HDD's SDD and my AMD radeon HD gb Now ive have the most strange issue where i can be watching a video off the HDD or surfing the web on youtube etc and not long after I Random restarts with AMD graphics card but not Nvidia graphics card start the activity my computer will turn off like if I had flicked the switch on the back of the power supply and then it boots back up again and will run fine until i start up an activity again and then it does exactly the same thing and reboots there is no BSOD shown nor Dumps Created Ive tried many things to sort this out and have RMA'ed the power supply and the motherboard the motherboard wasn't a direct replacement as they didn't sell my original board anymore which was a gigabyte ga-x -ud now i have an asus p x deluxe I have tried only plugging in one HDD SSD and then tried a spare HDD when that failed i have tried one ram stick at a time and still nothing now heres where it gets strange whilst trying to rule out differnt hardware i switched my AMD card out for a very old mb pcie x nvidia graphics and since then my computer has been running marvelously i can have it playing videos for hours days even although i havent properly tested for days and not a single problem at all The main difference between the cards is obiously one is nvidia and the other is AMD the nvidia one doesn't require any form of external power from the power supply where as the AMD one requires pin connectors and the AMD card is Massively more powerful when compared to the nvidia one the AMD one can run Practically all new titles on max with ease whereas the nividia card struggles to play gta sa on medium so i think ive narrowed it down to a driver error with amd and another driver with my new board a damaged AMD card a second dodgy power supply or something else that i haven't thought about or discovered yet Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any suggetions as im pretty much all out of ideas at this point and its starting to grind my gears that i cant use my expensive new computer as it should be Any help is appreciated Joe P S sorry about any spelling or punctuation mistakes made but Im very tired at the time of writing this and will be going to bed

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.

I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.

My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

My graphics display suddenly stopped for my computer. My PC is not even recognising my monitor, I tested my monitor with some other PC's and it is working properly. I though graphics card not working.??

But since my existing graphics card is gone and there is no on board graphics card on my PC I am not able to uninstall existing graphics card and install new one.

Could some one please suggest me what to do in this situation to see some thing in monitor so that in can start doing Uninstall/Installtions.?

Thank you very much for your replies in advance. I really apprecite it.

Thanks
Satish.

A:How to install graphics card when the existing graphics card in not working.

You could always stick the new one in and boot up in safe mode. Then proceed to uninstall all the remnant drivers. That *shouldn't* cause any problems, but it may be choppy when you boot up.(I've had this happen before, swapping a Riva TNT2 for a GF6600).

That is just how you should do that, it's unremarkable.

Should not be a problem at all, it's routine, you could add another card later and be just fine after disabling on-board again.

A:Problem installing new graphics card on Emachine/onboard-graphics

An extreme option

As you do have the option of a working computer prior to installing the new card I would back up any files that are important to you..
Then, before I would pay someone else BIG bucks, I would put in the new card and try a fresh install of windows. Force it to recognise your new card. The drivers that Windows will pick should suffice until the install is done and you can then install the card specific drivers from your disk.
This is given ONLY as a choice. I am not sure this will solve your problem but IT IS something this cheap bas____ would try before paying someone else.

Good Luck and check back, maybe someone else will contribute a better idea.

Friends,

Lately I have been having graphics problems in games. There are these " artifacts", wierd shapes, triangles, ect that appear and "shot" through my screen. it is hard to explain what it looks like, except that it is NOT normal.

It is hard to say when these appeared. I have recently got a different monitor. It is not new. It is a Dell CRT monitor. I replaced 1 CRT with another because I am cheap .

I have the latest drivers, I think, for my graphics card ( GeForce 5700 LE ). Not great , but not terrible. I play the games with either low or medium settings. I ran a benchmark test that was terrible.

Any ideas as to weather it is the card or monitor?

I just plugged my monitor into the new card (HD4770) and it works, did not disable or uninstall the integrated graphics. the integrated is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE chipset. The performance index went higher on paper but other than having better resolution I don't see a huge improvment. I still have video lag trying to watch streaming hd movies and my new camera (Panasonic Lumix ZS7) wont play video in HD over my computer. Must I disable and even uninstall the old integrated graphics too or am I missing something else?

A:I just installed a new graphics card, must I disable the old integrated graphics?

Have a look in your bios to see if it has an option to boot from pci-e or intergrated.

Hello there, I am looking for a dirt cheap, Windows 7 suitable graphics card for use with a PC designed for multimedia purposes (watching films, listening to music etc). I would like to be able to use the full visual effects Windows 7 has to offer. It must have an S-video output and be compatible with the Asus M3A78-CM Motherboard. I have 1 PCI Express x 1 slot free and 2 x PCI 2.2 slots free.

Please provide some suggestions, doesn't have to be brand new.

Either that, or something like the Gadmei XGA/VGA LCD TV BOX. I want to connect my PC with the motherboard mentioned previously to my CRT TV (Panasonic TX-28PL4 Quintrix). The motherboard has onboard graphics via dvi and vga outputs. The TV has an S-VHS plug on the front, as well as RCA Audio/Video sockets. On the rear, it has 1 spare scart input.

What are your thoughts?

A:Graphics Card/Onboard Graphics for Media Centre PC

the graphics card listed in my specs may only be 64MB, but it surprisingly runs aero.
If that seems to be not quite what you're looking for, another card I would recommend is the nvidia 8400GS. It may be 512MB, but thats about as high as it's specs go, but you will need a more powerful PSU (300W+). The 8400GS is about ?30 and a vga to RCA adapter seems to be about ?5 (i recommend you buy the adapter before the card).
The one in my specs just has a VGA port, but the 8400GS has vga, dvi and hdmi (i think the hdmi may need some further cabling in the case, not sure though)

NB (the card listed in my system specs may actually be the GeForce 7200GS, all system information programs tell me that it could be both and there's no sticker on it. all i know for (kinda) certain is that its 64MB )

A:how to disable Intel HD Graphics to install PCI-E graphics card

It's likely to be an improvement, but check it and see.
Onboard graphics are disabled in the BIOS (Try looking under "Integrated Peripherals" or something similar.
You probably don't need to do this, but it's nice to know how.

Hi , The option is the one where the nvidia card and intel on-board are shown, and the BIOS should select the nvidia card as priority if it can, and has a choice.
It's sometimes known as 'Primary Video' & the option is called PEG.
Make sure you save the settings when you exit or they won't be changed from before.

A:no video card graphics nor online graphics

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

What is the ram & psu make and model?
Try clearing the cmos, per MoBo book.
First check to see that you used MoBo's stand off's correctly and
that the MoBo is not shorting out on the case.
Do a bare setup, only the essentials. Can be done with or without case.

1.cpu heatsink/fan
2.MoBo
3.1 stick of known good ram
4.video card
5. keyboard
6.monitor

Un-hook all power & data cables (except the power to MoBo)
remove all addin cards.
This is just to get you to the bios screen.
Failing this, try booting without any ram just to see if you get any error
beep codes, same with video card.

This should help getting some trouble shooting in order.
G'Luck and let us know.

Im trying to play World of Warcraft on the machine and it is a bit jumpy due to what I assume is the graphics card. The system has 1Gb of RAM so I dont believe it has anything to do with the RAM.

My question is, will my system benifit from a PCI graphics card or is the bus too slow for PCI to show any type of improvement? The only reason I say PCI is because the system does not have an AGP slot.

Do you have the PCIe set as first to initialize in the BIOS? Also, have you tried the card in another slot on the MoBo? Have you tried cleaning out the slot with canned air? Have you tried using a pencil eraser to gently clean the contacts in the GPU where it plugs into the PCIe?

And please, thoroughly fill out your System Specs by clicking on the tab under your post.

Hey, recently, I have came up with an idea of a fourth monitor, but my GPU (970) supports only three, which ones that I own. It has fourth one but I don't have the right cables for it for now.
I noticed that my motherboard has two open video ports, one being VGA which I needed. So, I tried just plugging it in and seeing what happens but it doesn't seem to work, I have tried looking for results around the internet and BIOS but they don't seem to work. The three monitors which I have plugged into my GPU, work perfectly fine, but, as I said, the motherboard's VGA port doesn't work. I have heard that such thing definitely is possible, but I cannot find out what I need to do.

Does anyone have an answer to this?

If my motherboard currently has an intigrated graphics card, but has a PCI-E slot, do I need to do anything special after inserteing my graphics card and installing the drivers, or should it just work right away?

A:How do you switch from an integrated graphics card to an "external" graphics card?

Most modern PCs will detect the new installation of the PCI graphics card and automatically disable the onboard graphics, so yes it should just work.

If for some reason you have problems, you may have to make a change in the bios, I cannot be more specific because each bios is different depending on manufacturer, and model of the motherboard.

Install the card, connect your monitor to it and boot up, when you get into Windows install the driver and reboot.

Hi, I've got this motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP.
I just went looking around the BIOS, and found out how to use my other monitor (connected via VGA port on motherboard) but not how to use both my graphics card and motherboard internal graphics (Graphics card for main display and motherboard display for alternate display) at the same time. I read that some motherboards can do this, and I would think that mine could, due to it being quite a good motherboard, but am I missing something? I can't seem to find it!

And help/answers will be awesome.

A:Can I use onboard graphics with graphics card

No, usually one can't use both onboard and add-in graphics adapters, by adding the plug-in card the onboard automatically gets disabled, at least on all the computers I've done it with.

Some newer CPUs do have things combined such as AMD CPUs that include ATI video, usual quick explanation of making things that way is for speed. AMD owns ATI Graphics.

The total memory shown is not your actualy gpu memory,i thought it was something like shared system memory,so no need to worry about that.About your flickering problem, can be due to alot of things.Make sure all your cables are connected tightly, and i would uninstall all your mobo, gpu drivers and get the newest ones, make sure you install directX latest version aswell.

There basically the same thing just different names as far as I am concerned. A graphics card accelerates the graphics processing

A:BSOD with install of Intel Graphics driver or install of graphics card

I recommend for future reference never to use driver discovery software like Driver Whiz. They have a propensity to install erroneous, buggy and/or outdated drivers. Finding drivers for your hardware should always be done manually.

Anyways, while I don't see any specific pattern for the crashes, I do see at least some of them are during disk I/O. That's when I immediately got suspicious of your Crucial SSD. If you have not already, the very first thing you should do when installing an SSD into a PC is to update your SSD's firmware, followed by your BIOS and any chipset/disk controller drivers. This is necessary as initial SSD firmware often has a habit of causing issues, which frequently is resolved when updating it.

If that all doesn't work, then it's time for some other hardware tests. Start with 7 passes of Memtest86+, followed by Torture Test on Blend for 9+ hours with Prime95. If those don't turn up anything, then replace either your motherboard (most likely culprit) or your SSD drive.

I bought this : ZOTAC GeForce GTX 650 128-bit 2GB GDDR5 (1071 MHz/5000 MHz) for my GF. but after receiving it i saw that its a 128-bit graphics processor... Should i return the card and buy her another with a 256-bit graphics processor? (shes a gamer)

A:Is a 128-bit graphics processor Bad?

Depends on what games your GF plays. If you can pay for a graphics card with a 256-bit memory bus, then go ahead. If you're sticking to NVidia, IIRC you would have to go with at least a GTX 670 (since the GTX 660's only have a 192-bit memory bus) and those are roughly three times the price you paid for a GTX 650.

If you have to spend $125, you may wanna take a look at the Radeon HD 7770. Pretty much the same price as the GTX 650 on Newegg, but performs better in benchmarks: AnandTech - Bench - GPU12

Hi all,

I want to upgrade my current 'gaming' hardware setup. Especially the Graphics card and the Processor. My current ones are:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 4000+
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (512mb)

I have a relatively slow PC, is this caused by the processor? Because it's only 2.1 GHz?
What would be a better setup to play some heavy games, like Red Alert 3 on HQ, or Crysis etc.?

Another question: A friend of mine said the graph. card was pretty good, so if I replaced the processor I would be able to get much higher preformance, and speed... Is this true?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English.

A:Graphics and Processor recommendations?

The video card is nowhere near good. A decent video card for great performance at any resolution upto 1440x900 would be the HD 4670. Light-years faster than that 8500GT and cheap too. (<$100)

The CPU should be okay though, but if you want to upgrade, the only worthy upgrade would be a Phenom II X3 or one of the older Windsor chips with 2MB of L2 cache memory.

Hi I am thinking of upgrading my mobo processor and memory but keeping my BFG NVidia GeForce GTX MB video card I need to keep the cost of this upgrade down thus not replacing the video and my current system the CPU is the bottleneck I am wondering if I buy an AMD multi core processor with appropriate mobo will there be any issues running the NVidia GeForce on the PCI-E bus Since AMD and ATI are now AMD graphics? Nvidia with processor one I would think that AMD processors would be AMD processor with Nvidia graphics? more tuned for ATI GPU If there are no known issues here I would like to go with the AMD because I ve read and heard very good things about them and AMD has always run cooler lower power and thus not requiring a PSU upgrade My current rig is Asus P AD -E Premium mobo Intel P Prescott Ghz Gigs DDR RAM Crucial Mhz BFG GeForce GTX MB on PCI-E Antec True Power W PSU Cooling mm fan in rear of chassis mm fan on Zalman heatsink on processor mm fan in front of chassis Stock fan on GeForce Thanks for any info FW nbsp

Right now I don't think AMD is winning on this front either. However; in the mid-range they have few excellent CPUs to choose from; and you shouldn't have any problems with regard to your Geforce on any AMD supporting motherboard.

Which processor and graphics is best? 3.40GHz AMD Quad-Core A10-5700 Accelerated processorAMD Radeon™ HD 8470 graphics card with 1GB DDR3 dedicated memory
OR
4.1 GHz, AMD Elite A10 6800K AMD Radeon Hd 8670D, 2GB DDR3 dedicated memory
? The first choice is in a HP Pavilion from Staples, the second choice is in an HP Pavilion from Best Buys, they are the same price. Which one is better overall?

A:Comparing processor and graphics

The model numbers make this an easy one.

A10-6800 with a clock speed of 4.1Ghz is higher than A10-5700 with a clock speed of 3.4Ghz.

Radeon HD 8470 is also a higher model than the Radeon HD 8470 and 2GB of RAM is more than 1GB of RAM.

So in both aspects the second system is more powerful.

However if gaming is your intention beware that neither graphics processor is very powerful.

A:Desperately seeking AGP graphics processor

The HD 3850 would be the fastest AGP card you can get, but a system with one would require a PSU with 20-22A on the +12V rail. Since your PC is at least 4 years old, I recommend that it have at least 27A or more to account for capacitor aging, unless you've replaced the PSU down the line.

If your PSU doesn't cut it, then get an HD 3650\2600XT, whichever is cheaper.

All the cards can be found at Newegg, TigerDirect and ZipZoomFly for $60-100, depending on which card you go for.

Ok so im replacing my integrated graphics card with a non-integrated. Is the processor built into the graphics on the motherboard or is it it's own thing?
Im just curious cuz I dont wanna be all happy and dandy and install something and it ends up im gonna need way more pieces to buy. I'm merely just upgrading the power supply and the graphics card is all. Help would be appreciated!
Also I Heard something about the bios setttings automatically turning the integrated off? If that does that will it turn my processor off as well?
Sorry for all the confusion and thank you.

A:Processor+integrated graphics clarification

Hi, First make sure that you can actually fit a graphics card into your pc, you will need a spare PCI-express slot.
Have a look at the photo on this page. The PCI-express graphics slot is 'B' and the processor is 'G'.
The processor will have a large fan on top of it so you can't see it when it's built.
http://www.build-your-own-computer.net/motherboard-diagram.html

The BIOS can have a few options regarding graphic cards. But if there is an option to detect a separate graphic card in a PCI-express slot, it may be called 'Auto'. So you will need to look in the 'Integrated peripherals' section for that.
If you are not sure about BIOS settings, best to find out more info about yours, as you could make your pc difficult to use with the wrong settings.
Also if you buy a graphics card as in your link, note that it has DVI outputs, so you will need to buy a DVI monitor cable, and your monitor must have a DVI (cream or white) input, near to the blue VGA input you will be using up till now.
Another way is to look for a Graphic card with both VGA (blue) and DVI (white) outputs, so you have two options.

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to combine the power of a dedicated gpu card with the power of the ondie graphics of Intel's i3 processors?

A:Combining GPU with the built graphics of an i3 processor?

I don't believe there is a way. Nvidia has hybrid SLI and ati has hybrid crossfire that if you have a motherboard that supports it, you can install a lower end nvidia/ati card and have the integrated card give the dedicated card a small boost.

As far as I know for ati the common boards that support hybrid crossfire are the 780, 785 and 790. I'm not sure about the older 770 or the new 890.

Nvidia, I'm not too sure but I think it has to be a geforce 9100 and up. Correct me if I'm wrong.

AMD Graphics Processor, First to Embrace DirectX 11 in Windows 7
AMD is the first to embrace DirectX 11, the successor of DX 10.1 with a graphics processor unveiled at COMPUTEX 2009, Taipei. The next generation of Microsoft's graphics technology will be made available not only as an integral part of Windows 7, but also for Windows Vista, as a standalone download. However, backward compatibility stops with Vista. Just as DirectX 10, version 11 will not be offered for Windows XP. AMD is working to deliver the first DirectX-capable graphics cards in time for the availability of Windows 7, which has been confirmed for October 22, 2009.

A:Looking to upgrade my laptop's processor and graphics

There's nothing you can do, except upgrading the bigger ram ( laptop has the limit. ), bigger hard drive, and maybe new wifi card.

Better suggestion is to exchange your laptop in for the new one; or ride this out and suck it up.

Hi, I have been building a new computer with a bunch of old used parts.
The computer has a motherboard with NO GRAPHICS.
I have the pci slots filled with a network card (because the motherboard doesn't have ethernet either...), a RAID controller for IDE devices and has 2 IDE hard drives connected to it. And I have an AGP nvidia graphics card with 256 MB of video memory.

For some reason, Everytime I turn on the computer, the graphics card does not put out video, but I know it's working because I can feel the heatsink getting hot. Both ports, DVI and VGA don't seem to work.

I have no idea what to do from here... help me!!!

I would like to swap my XFX R7 250 Core Edition Passive card for a Sapphire R7 250 (note - same chip) under W7-64.
Is this likely to work without changing the driver software, or will have have to reinstall/update it?

Thanks

You should not have to do anything, just swap the cards.

I have an old HP laptop (dv4000) with an Intel GMA 900 graphics processor, running Windows 7 Ultimate. When I try to run a windows game, like Solitaire, I get an alert that there is no driver for the graphics processor. I have heard that driver support for these old processors is limited. I looked at the Intel website, but for the GMA 900 they only have drivers for Windows XP. Any ideas? Thanks

A:Intel GMA Graphics Processor with Windows 7 Ultimate

Chad welcome to the Seven Forums.

That XP driver is the one you need, as there will never be a Windows 7 driver for it as Intel has dropped all support for it a long time ago. Not sure if it will install as normal or not. If it doesn't run it in compatibility mode,

Compatibility Mode

and then it should install no problem.

Hi

Here are two processors with integrated graphics. Which is better?
AMD Athlon 5350 APU
Intel Celeron G1840

I have the 5350 and it's graphics performance is great. It's like a full-featured GPU!
But! I'm thinking to get this Intel one for an other computer . Do you think ir's graphics are as good as the AMD? Or is Intel's graphics still as bad as it was before?

A:Which processor (with good integrated graphics) would you recommend?

depending on what you use the graphics for, you may be better of just getting a cpu that doesnt have integrated graphics, and then get and actual gpu, which will actually provide better performance than integrated
