where to plug the wires ( for mic and headphones front side of tower)

Q: where to plug the wires ( for mic and headphones front side of tower)

I got 7 extra wires I dont know where to connect on my Asus p5GV-MX MB.

they are labeled: Return R, Return L, Spkout R, Spkout L, ground, mic Bias, and mic in. I have no idea where they go and the manual to MB doesnt talk about it.

When I get this PC going, i would like to plug headphones or mic at the front and not reach the back to plug them.

on MB, not sure what connectors are those:
10-1 pin AAFP (which has: port1 L, ground, port1 R, Presence#, Port2 R, Sense1_return, sense_send, port2 L, and sense2_return)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought a computer case with 2 front side usb ports. There are two cables with 3 connectors (one is a 4 wire connector, red-white-green-black, connector two is red-white-green, and connector 3 is just one black wire with a "v" on it) there are two sets of these (usb1 and usb2). Why is there a seperate "v" black wire? and what do the colors represent (+5v, ground etc..) the reason I ask is that the motherboard I bought says it is important that I connect them in the right spot or damage may be done. Thanks in advance for the help.

A:Front side usb ports. what do the wires mean?

You need to check the motherboard manual to ensure you connect to the motherboard properly. Check the manufactuers website for a diagram.

A:Where to buy Headphone Wires That came with my headphones?

I've always found the very best place to start is with the manufacturer. Call, email or other contact them and explain what happened and see what they say. Ask them if the cable is available from other vendors and get it's exact description.

A:Wires don't fit to plug router into modem - Do I need adaptor or what?

If I understand this right, you need to remove the cable that goes from the modem to the computer and plug it into the WAN/LAN/Ethernet port on the router.
Get a second Ethernet cable and connect one of the router ports to the Ethernet port of the computer.
Supply the model numbers of the modem and router if this isn't clear.

My brother in law has a got himself a free computer to which I am going to donate my old Sapphire X1950GT graphics card. The problem is, is that I can't easily wire it in to the computer as it has a crappy generic PSU with only one Molex and several Sata power plugs.
What I do have, without slicing and dicing and getting out the soldering iron, is the adaptor cable below. What I don't know is whether this has a sufficient amount of wires I.e. 0V and 12V to provide power to my G/Card.
Any ideas?

Tom.

A:Wiring a graphics card to a generic PSU - sufficient power wires on plug?

System power consumption with a Sapphire X1950 GT is less than 250W. I think you will be fine with the splitter mentioned above. You probably don't need much extra power to run the card. I assume there is at least a 300W PSU or greater in the system.

I just purchased a new PC tower. I stayed with Windows 7 because didn't like the way 10 functioned. The tower is thin. The one feature I don't like is the DVD drawer is vertical. Can I lay it on its side if I put legs on the tower to allow for the circulation for the cooling fan? I have a couple of older grandchildren (H.S. & College) that come to the house and use the computer. I know that they are careful, but I have a concern about their use of the DVD/CD drawer.

Hello!

I'm wondering whether it's okay to run my Dell Dimension 4600 tower on its side for a few hours. Is that going to cause HDD problems? If I try it on its side will I cause any damage if it won't run, or will it just refuse to go?? There's also a gfx card in it.

I'm hoping that it can run on its side so I can mount my LCD monitor on top of it and have a nice, compact little tower/monitor combo that I can use as a synth via MIDI for a performance.

Thanks for your input,

i toook off the side case on my tower and i was wondering if it would be better if it left it on.. since i have a fan and it would make it better for cold air to stay in..

A:Is it better to have the case on the side of the tower on or off?

Im not exactly sure, i guess it depends on the computer setup. You can check with a temp monitoring software like speedfan and check temps with it off and with it on. Personally ive noticed lower temps with the case off when i had no case fans. But recently i got a power supply with 2 fans, and have added 4 case fans. Since ive created a strong airflow through my computer, taking the case off would disrupt that flow and make the case fans pretty much useless, i see lower temps with the case on and all 4 case fans going.

Hello,
I am having trouble with the prongs where the power cable is plugged in on the back of the tower. The computer does not come on unless I jiggle the prongs. The computer stays on just fine, then, so long as I don't turn it off. If I have to turn it off, then to get it on the next time, I have to jiggle the prongs again. I have already replaced the power cord, so I know it's not that. Have you ever heard of this happening? Is it possible to replace this part?
Thank you for your help! Maggie

That power cable goes into the power supply. If the cable is good, there is something wrong with the prongs of the power supply. Do you have a spare to swap to confirm?

second prob is that i can't get it to run on the 333 front side bus:
It will reboot or freeze after I play a game, usually after a couple of minutes. works fine on 133 front side bus. I have a 350 ps.
Could this be the culprit? I also have volcano cpu cooler 7+.
I also have audigy gamer. thanks for any help.

I just became aware of the importance of matching the speed of the front-side bus on my chipset to what the motherboard requires. Do I also have to run the memory at the same speed as the front side bus? Before I had them both at 800 MHz but my motherboard requires 1066 or 1333 MHz chips. Can I still run my memory at 800 MHz while having a 1333 MHz fsb on my Intel Core 2 Duo?

Goodday.

i am interested in Dell 4600 series.
Kinda Cheap , you guys could check it out

I check out the spec and i couldnt understand this 2 point:

1) Memroy perfrom at 2600mhz with a 400mhz Front Side Bus

2) 512 ON-DIE L2 Cache.

And one last question regarding System Casing.

Is it true that system without casing kills sperm.

boy, if that is true i am in deep trouble. I have been working with a caseless system for almost 2 years now

A:What is a front side Bus? L2 Cache?

The memory does not work at 2600MHz. 2600 is just a speed index telling you that the memory is supposed to be able to transfer ~2600 million bytes/sec. Front Side Bus is the data path between the CPU and the memory. It operates at 400MHz.

L2 cache is a chunk of really fast memory put on the CPU itself to allow fast access to often used data.

Open cased system kills less sperm than most other stuff you deal with in your life like microwave ovens, television sets, CRT monitors, smoking, air pollution, drugs, all sorts of chemicals, whatever. Don't worry about that.
And you are not actually sitting on that system, are you?

Thinking about upgrading to a new Dell for Digital Audio work (PC based multitrack recording, sampling & sequencing.) The machine I looked at sports a 2GB P4 CPU, with I believe a 512KB L2 Cache; & a 533MHz Front Side Bus on the motherboard. My questions are:
1) What is the Level 2 Cache (how does it work; & how is it different from memory)?

2) Is the Front Side Bus the same animal as the PCI Bus?

As a general inquiry, will these two items be more beneficial in recording audio to the PC?

Thanks in advance.

My CPU is an Athlon-XP-M (laptop) 2400+ running at ~1.8 GHz under full load (multiplier 13.5) down to 530 MHz (multiplier 4.0). These speeds are obviously related to what CPU-Z calls Bus Speed (133 MHz). CPU-Z also reports a Rated FSB of 265 MHz. My questions are: 1) What is the difference between Bus Speed and Rated FSB? and, 2) What components are running at which speed?

I appreciate any insight you can provide. Thanks

I am currently designing a new system for myslef and I am a little confused about the FSB. Since an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ uses a FSB of 266 MHz, would running 400 MHz DDR RAM with this CPU (on an ASUS A7V8X) be a waste of money if I don't plan on overclocking the FSB? I believe this creates a bottleneck and if you aren?t going to overclock the FSB you are better off with 266 MHz DDR RAM - am I correct?

P.S.: i have found out that the motherboard's FSB is 133MHz, does it affect the situation???

thanks in advance, and sorry if i haven't give some technical advices for all the other techspoters out there.

A:Motherboard 133MHz Front Side Bus

The 133 FSB is a reliable and reasonably fast board if the memory is 133 or faster... on up to 400 MHZ or more.

Go to <SAFE MODE> to turn off the option to reboot after failure.

You likely have a bad driver or component... So look in the Device Manager to see if there are any yellow or red flags, and begin looking for different (earlier as well as later) drivers for those flagged ones.

The problem can also be Spyware, or a Trojan infestation, so be sure you have good antivirue such as Antivir antivirus and MBAM MalwareByes as well as SuperAntiSpyware, or Spyware Doctor, or Spy Sweeper.

Then be sure you have all the Microsoft Updates... on up through Service Pack 3.

One step at a time, and you will soon have a good unit.

memory clock and the front side bus clock, whats the difference between the 2? whats the memory clock?

was reading a review at
http://www17.tomshardware.com/mainboard/02q3/020720/sis648-06.html

had this, when comparing the Sis648 chipset to the Intel 850E chipset, it had this:

Front Side Bus
Intel 850E: Clock 100/133 MHz
Sis648: 100/133/166 MHz
Memory Clock
Intel 850E: 400 MHz/533 MHz
Sis648: 100/133/166/200 MHz

more in depth meaning? how it affects performance?

A:memory clock, front side bus?

The front side bus is the speed of the processor clock runs at, the memory clock it the front side bus either using one data transmission per cycle, two, four.

ie:
100 mhz processor clock one data bit = 100
100 mhz processor clock two data bits = 200
100 mhz processor clock four data bits= 400
133 mhz processor clock four data bits = 533

The faster the memory clock the faster data can be transferred from processor to memory and ingeneral faster performance

Try this article
http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1624

I am sure someone can explain it better as I am stuck with a P3 so haven't used any of those chipsets yet

A:927-Non Fatal FSB Error on Front side Bus 0 ..... F...

This error is generally a sign of a mainboard defect but it can be caused by memory and CPU issues as well. What I'd  try: 1. Remove all memory modules except one and try again: - If the error is gone swap modules one by one and see if it comes back (if it does then the specific memory module is defect).- If the error didn't come back with any of the modules tested individually: remove all memory modules, clean the memory sockets with compressed air (oil free is critical!) and replace all modules (if the error is gone then it was a contact issue in one of the sockets; if the error comes back then it's a problem with either the memory controller (chipset) or the socket, so in any case it's the mainboard)- If the error persisted with all modules tested individually move on to the next test 2a. If you run a dual CPU config: swap CPUs and check if the error goes away or changes (if it goes away: probably a contact problem with the socket; if error shows for FSB 1: CPU 0 is defective) 2b if you run a single CPU config: try to get another working XEON 50xx/51xx/53xx processor (speed/core count doesn't matter, must be known to work!) for testing and replace your existing CPU with the new one (if the error is gone then your CPU is defective, if the error persists it's the mainboard) Hope this helps!

My System board tells me that is supports Socket-462 processor FSB speeds of 200/266 MHz. I'm running an AMD 950 Duron. I ran the BELARC advisor and it tells me my system BUS clock speed is only 66 MHz. What's wrong?

Hey,

I wasn't sure about something I was hoping someone could clarify this for me. I was wondering if the Front side bus speed of a Mobo is bottlenecked by the processors FSB? For example, if my mobo's FSB speed is 1333MHz and my CPU's FSB is 1066MHz, does this mean that they will bottleneck at 1066MHz, or are they independent from each other?

Thanks

A:Front Side Bus bottle neck?

The CPU controls the FSB. The motherboard's FSB, as you speak of it, is just the highest FSB that the mobo is guaranteed to support. Some ASUS motherboards, for instance, can run at 1333MHz FSB when the processor supports it. But if the processor's FSB is 1066, that's what the FSB will be. But the FSB speed is determined by the processor.

My Processor FSB Speed is 400Mhz, yet in CPUz it is reported at 100Mhz. I am getting a new processor (Pentium M 770, 2.13Ghz 533Mhz FSB 2MB L2 Cache), but I think that something is wrong or not set right. How could I set the FSB for full usage?

I have the same problem with my RAM. It's reported at 100Mhz, yet its suppose to be 533Mhz. What gives?

Try another info app, for one thing:

I got the beats by dr dre monster studio as a gift for my birthday, 3 days ago. And only the left side of the beats are working. I do not have the receipt so they won't let me exchange it because the person who gave the beats to me traveled and threw the receipt away. Thanks in advance.
Note: The left side is only working and when i smell the right side, it has a bit of a smell of burned metal??? But the mute button and the power buttons are on the right side and they work perfectly!!

If they're defective and you don't have a receipt, you're out of luck. I can't imagine someone tossing out a receipt for $300 headphones before making sure they work. Have them call the store where they purchased them from and see if they can get a duplicate receipt.

Hi,
I am having a problem with my computer or headset, not sure which of them.
But my headphones only work in the one side. Sound in the left side, where the wire is coming from.

But really i do not think it is the headphones, cause if i plug it on to a other computer it works fine, both sides.

My headphone is:
Steelseries 5H V2, USB 7.1 stereo
I never had problems before with it till i came home from my school today.
I am using the drivers that came with the headphone.

So any help with this?

Where do the cables plug into on my motherboard so that I can use the front USB ports? I see a spot on my motherboard that reads "USB", but the plugs have don't fit....Like there are too many holes in the plug, and not enough spokes for the motherboard to plug into it Any help would be appreciated.

A:optiplex 240 front side bus speed is wrong

The 100MHz bus is correct, you have a 2.8GHz "Northwood" Celeron CPU, the bus runs at 100MHz and is quad-pumped (sends 4 instructions per clock cycle instead of the traditional 1), so Intel's marketing department calls it "400FSB". It doesn't actually run at 400MHz. A 533FSB bus actually runs at 133MHz, and an 800FSB bus at 200MHz. The 128KB cache is correct, that's all the Northwood Celeron has, the Northwood Pentium4 has 512KB (and also runs at a higher FSB, either 533FSB or 800FSB, although some cheap models were sold with a 400FSB). The "core ratio" is 28, that means it runs the CPU at 28 times the bus speed, 28 x 100MHz = 2.8GHz.

I haven't done this in a couple of years and am kind of hazy on it. I recently bought a Mach Speed V2DP motherboard, AMD Sempron 2400+ Socket A Thoroughbred processor, and 512 MB of Kingston PC2700 DDR Ram (333 Mhz, or 266). The board is rated for 200/266/333 FSB. As you may have guessed, I'm not building a state-of-the-art system, but trying to economically get a few more years of life out of my old 450 MHz, P2 system. For front side bus frequency setting I am given a choice of 100 MHz, 133 MHz (default), or 166 MHz. I've been researching, but haven't been able to find crystal clear (which I need) instructions as to how to arrive at the correct setting. I would appreciate any input on this subject, and feel free to include the math behind the choice.

A:Front USB ports inoperative to headphones

It maybe that you have too much demand on the usb ports. The front ports are lower powered than the rear ports. Disconnect some usb devices, printer etc and try again.
If still no success, check the power settings on the usb in device manager and see what is available to the front ports and is the device recognised in device manager when connected to the front port.
Open that port and check on the power tab.. Also check on power management to see if windows is allowed to turn power off to that.
Then if still no luck see this

Hi

I have soundmax installed and working on my pc.

I would like to use the independant front headphone feature built into soundmax which from the sounds of it means that the front headphones can play audio at the same time as the front speakers playing different audio.

When I enable this set up all the audio I try playing comes from the speakers I set as default. If I set the heaphones as default then all the audio comes out of them.

How can I choose the device I wish to play from for each application individually?

A:Soundmax Independant Front Headphones

I've never seen that as an option, It's either the PC speakers/external speakers or the headphone connection but not both.

On PC's with SoundMax that I've seen (all "older" PC's), it's a mechanical connection (extra contact in the headphone jack) for the rear GREEN speaker out connection. If no headphone plug is inserted it routs the sound to the rear Speaker jack, if the headphone is connected the sound goes to the headphones. On newer systems with the HD Audio (SigmaTel/IDT or RealTek) it's done by electronic sensing and if something is plugged into the front headphone jack then the Speaker output is automatically muted.

As of about a week ago, I have found that my computer will only give sound through headphones if I plug them in while the computer is turned off. Which gets rather annoying when I'm in the middle of a game, my cord catches on my sleeve as I move, and they pop out, making me have to shut down my computer to get sound back.

It seems to be a problem with my desktop, rather than the headphones, as I tried them on my old laptop, and I could plug/unplug as much as I wanted and they still worked fine there. When I plug them in on my running desktop, the "You just plugged a device into the audio jack" message appears, but I get no sound. I have tried both audio jacks on my computer, as well as the one on my monitor to the same effect.

Any suggestions?

A:Trouble getting front panel headphones working

On most motherboards/audio chipsets, connecting a device to the front panel disables the rear port. It's a standard feature as when you connect headphones to the front panel, you typically want the (rear output) speakers to shut off.

With that said, if you are looking for drivers, first check the motherboard manufacturers website. If those don't work, then try getting drivers directly from the audio chipset manufacturer.

The power switch and reset do nothing but short two pins for the time you hold the button down, so wire orientation doesn't matter. Which pins you have to short? You need the motherboard manual or decipher the writings near the pins.

Any suggestions? I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Thank you- shauna

Hi, I run a macbook pro 13" with 2.5GHZ pcu and 2.7GB RAM. I have Windows XP installed via Boot Camp.
Sometimes when I plug in regular headphones or plug/unplug AC power, the computer will shut down immediately. No warning, no "shutting down" screen, just OFF.
Took my computer to the store, they ran test, they verified it's not a hardware issue. They looked very confused and seemed like they didn't know what else to do, and I needed to get back to work so I took my computer back. But I need to know what is happening here, it is very dangerous for my computer.
Malwarebytes and AVG scans showed no problems.

Any ideas? Thank you.

A:computer shuts down immediately when I plug in headphones

It could be electrostatic discharge (ESD), like the little zap you get sometimes when touching something after walking across carpet, especially when the humidity is very low. Try to notice if the computer shuts off when you just touch the headphone or power adapter plugs to the computer before it is actually plugged in. If it does, that is probably what is happening.

Its just a guess, but I have damaged a couple of computers at home by this from plugging in USB thumb drives.

my pc wont show a notification telling me i have pluged in my headset, i am trying to use my mic-build-in kind of headset. when i plug it in nothing happens is if i never had plug it in, my headset also does not appear in my playback devices, shows as 'not plugged in'
my headset is the kind where it has the mic and headphones divided into two plugs connected to the rear of the PC.
i am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit with REALTEK.

yes i am sure everything is connected and volume is okay. I was playing an online game and i could hear what people were saying but not speak, after i umpluged and pluged back my headset i found 'stereo mix' to be in the wrong tab, see pictures.

A:when i plug in my headphones or mic my PC wont show a pop up message?

turns out that after installing everything in the right place (even tho i dont know why stereo mix is now under the recording tab) you ALWAYS have to re star your computer, even small changes like 'eco-ing' your mic wont always work properly if you dont re star your computer, shutting it down didnt work for me so always re start it, seems like its even faster. any similar problems please post it here, i like learning about this things and ill figure it out for you.

Good Evening Friends,

I have had this problem for a long while now but essentially I am forced to use a headphone setup for my desktop but would really like to use external speakers instead of this current set up. What is confusing me is that these external speakers worked for a good long while then stopped working suddenly. Furthermore I switched monitors to a HP w2207 and was wondering if that had anything to do with it. I have updated Realtek to the current drivers and the premise remains the same. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Sound Plays in Headphones in front jack but ext speakers do not work

Right click the small speaker in the lower right corner of your task bar. Click Playback devices. Is there a device shown with a green checkmark? Post an image of that window, if you can. (Use Windows Snipping Tool then attach the image using the Paperclip icon in the message text header.)

Forgot to mention: When you plug headphones into the front jack, the default action is to turn off the external speakers so that Windows action is normal.

HiI am trying to determine which type of 3.5mm audio plug to put into the front panel connector for using headphone with a microphone to do video communications. could be - sleeve, ring and tip (mono sound and microphone)orcould be - sleeve, ring, ring, and tip (stereo sound and microphone) Have read through the manuals and nothing is said about which type to use.

A:Front panel audio connector - what plug type to use for head...

Hi, I can't see your image but probably you can see mine   (a) All standard 3.5mm (stereo) headphones will fit and work.(b) For the second port on the right, all standard 3.5mm headsets will fit and work. Its default is for microphone, all standard 3.5mm mono microphones will fit and work. Note: probably around 95% of 3.5mm headphones and microphones on the market now are normal/standard. Regards.

Hello After I updated to Windows I lost the ability to select which audio device I want to be playing the sounds at the moment to be the default audio device At Win when I entered panel) audio Windows front 10 after headphones (desktop's icon Lost update for the Lost audio icon for headphones (desktop's front panel) after Windows 10 update Audio from control panel I could select either speakers which I connected to the rear of the desktop and my headphones mic to the front jacks This is extremely useful for me because I can't easily access the tower itself to switch jacks all the time and I even made it on shortcut on the desktop Now this option is gone and it is not under disconected or disabled devices either Some apps like Skype have remembered my previous selection for headphones to be used and now I can't switch it back to speakers or headphones whenever I please because there is no other selection in the drop-down menu for default audio device I hope I can have this sorted soon because it is really inconvenient nbsp Kind regards edit I actually got to know it actually plays on both devices simultaneously now X

I'm just learning about buses and it's my understanding that the system bus combined the data bus, address bus and control bus. According to wikipedia the system bus isn't used any more and the front side bus is popular. I don't really understand, what is a front side bus?

Because there are two cores on...for instance, my AMD Athlon X2, does that mean that since there are two cores, the normal FSB for one core which would be 2000mhz, would be x2 so i can put in 4 sticks of pc 6400 at 800mhz? or does the FSB not change when you add another core? Also is there somewhere i can learn more about how the cores work together? Im pretty new to the whole concept. Thanks!

A:Dual Core Front Side Bus x2?? or the same as 1 core?

You can only put in RAM that your motherboard supports, and only as much as it supports.

This should get you started in Front Side Bus architecture, and you can like off to other Wiki entries from there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_side_bus

Also, poking around on www.tomshardware.com will help you pick up a ton of good information, although most it is written assuming you know what all of that means. You should be able to infer lots of new info from their articles and reviews, though.

hey everyone. i am looking to upgrade my ram, but i am not sure what to get. I want to go from 4 gb to 6 or 8 gb. however, i just downloaded cpu-z and found that not all of my ram is running at the same speed. some at 333, and some at 400 mhz. in the program, it tells my that my rated fsb is 800 mhz in the processor screen. is this my overall front side bus speed? or just the processors? i am not sure, this is my first time jumping into this discussion.

any advice on how to proceed with my ram upgrade would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

A:Where can i find my front side bus speed/ ram speed

you are looking at the RAM SPD tab which isn't the true RAM frequency. You want to see the Memory tab which give your correct figure, for exampl if it says 666 or 667, you have 1333MHz RAM, in dual channel mode it effectively doubles.

Front Side BUS, FSB, is also called Base Clock (BCLK) and both the CPU and RAM use multipliers of it to function at particular speeds.

If your board has 4 RAM slot you should get 8GB, 4x2 or 2x4 sticks of RAM. If you go for 6GB you will have 2 DIMMs the same and one odd one. EX, 2x2+1x2, or 1x4+1x2.

hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.

So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?

Thx in adance.

G'day everyone - I suspect this issue will be a tough one to get help with!

I've attached a screen-capture of a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 spreadsheet I'm working on at the moment. As you will be able to see on the screen-capture, I've marked the areas of interest and will explain here...

When I enter a name in this column (marked as '1'), I want the spreadsheet to check another column (marked as '2') to see if there is a match. If there is a match, I then want the spreadsheet to check the column marked as '3', and subtract that amount from the column marked as '4'. If there is no match between the column marked as '1' and the column marked as '2', I don't want anything to happen.

I hope that made sense, and if anyone can help me with a solution here, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have an Inspiron 5545 running win10.
On opening, the right side hinge on the keyboard section pulled three screws and inserts free, cracked the plastic in the corner where the hinge is located, killed the WiFi, and caused an intermittent vertical line to appear on the screen.
The laptop has never been out of  the house, never dropped, and seldom left my lap when I was home.
It runs, but is held together with aa 1.5" black paper clamp and connects to the home network via a USB WiFi dongle from Wal-Mart..
This is my fourth or fifth laptop and the first to have the case fail.  This is a design failure in my opinion.  Boo on you, Dell.  I've bought a lot of your computers over the years because they worked and did not fall apart with normal use.  This one disappoints.
