Computer will not power on after I moved it

Q: Computer will not power on after I moved it

I recently moved my computer from one side of my desk to the other and somehow it managed to make it so when I press the power button nothing happens. I've disassembled and reassembled the computer numerous times and tested the psu. The psu is working and it seems like the motherboard is the culprit. What is confusing me the most is that when I short the 24 pin connector to the motherboard then plug it in if I also press the power button I can turn on the computer. I dont see that as a permanent fix just in case it sleeps and I assume it is not good for the computer so I am looking for help on how to permanently fix my issue. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, My battery seems to hold a charge very well. However, the problem is when I try to move my laptop on battery power; it suddnely turns off. It also shuts down when jostled or bumped. The battery is great when the laptop is stationary. I noticed this problem when I move from one class to another: The Aspire V works great during class, but the moment I shut it and put it in my backpack it shurts down and I need to reboot it for the next class. The laptop is great when it is plugged in. This seems like a hardware issue but I don't know what to do. Thanks for your help!

Ruled out the new switches with the old case and the new power pack with the one from the other case. Been over the pin connections 20 times.

Any ideas ?

I have every adware I've detected resolving to 127.0.0.1 in the Vista Hosts file, including facebook/beacon.com and pixel.fetchback.com. I was at the fetchback website and clicked on OPTOUT and went to a website they listed to optout of all adware.....NAI? Right after I opted out within 1-2 seconds the power went out (coincidence) and when te power came back on a minute or so laer, my IE8 shortcuts were missing but not the programs (32 &64 bit). After doing a bit of searching and reading I came across this and other websites and ran the programs thinking (1st mistake) I could identify the rascals and delete them. After running MWB and RootkitRevealer I found scripts running and file sizes not matching between actual and rt click properties. I would apprection some direction and help as I haven't deleted anything since the scans of yesterday. Thanks, E10.

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Cheap PSU's are bad, but going through two of them so quickly pretty much rules that out.

What you said about getting a "rainbow screen" is indicative of a faulty GPU. Please follow the instructions here to run the FurMark stress test: FurMark

Hey Guys, Ive been advised by a friend to go here as you may be able to help you with my problem..

WELL.. It started the other day my computer just restarted when i was playing a game, it only restarts when im playing games. So i unticked the box in system- Control panel to not restart when a fatal error occurs.

That hasnt solved the problem so ive looked in event viewer and all that tells me in critical is "Kernel Power 41"

Google hasnt been much help, can anyone please help me with this issue? i am computer literate but not majorly.

Will do anything to solve this lol

Cheers

A:Kernel Power 41 Error [moved from Vista/ Windows 7]

You can find other threads about this error, for example, http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...or-467179.html is a link to an old thread in this forum, which in itself has someone posting a link to yet another thread on this forum.

If the computer is within warranty, I would suggest getting in contact and getting it looked at, as they will have spare components and tools around to test it.

However, before sending the system off, there are some things you could look into first. For example, in that link to the other thread, someone mentioned something about a reported issue with a specific graphics card. Do you have that card?

I would also check the temperature of your system, is it too hot? (Software tools like SpeedFan could help you find this out).

As you said this only happens when you run games, the two most likely causes are the above two. It could also be other things, such as insufficient or faulty power supply (unlikely as it sounds).

EDIT: of course, the solution in the other thread ended up being relevant to an Asus system, is that what you have?

I bought a used Compaq Armada 7710MT laptop. The seller gave me the login password -- all was well.

Then I decided to reload Windows NT to eliminate the network setup and operate the laptop "stand-alone."

Bad idea! It changed the login! So-o-o, I went into the bios setup and reset the password -- all was well again.

Did a few setup changes, very minor.

Then I shut down.

When I tried to boot up again, well -- all was not well!! I got a "power-on password" request. I went to a Compaq site and it notes that I must remove the case and turn the jumper switch off, and back on, to remedy (delete) the "power-on password" request.

H-e-l-p! Isn't there a quickie way to address this problem???

Thanks.

Please provide all of the info from this post: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ns-452654.html

But, I'm gonna hazard a guess and blame SFEP.sys. Yours is dated from 2007 and is known to have BSOD issues. Go to the Sony support website and download the latest Win7 version of the Sony Firmware Extension Parser.

The BSOD blames yk62x64.sys - your Marvell Yukon wired networking driver. It's also pretty durned old. So, I'd suggest also updating that from the Marvell website: Marvell: Download Drivers

- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website.

The other day I shut my computer down from Windows, and shortly after it shut down I pulled the plug from the computer, not from the wall. A few hours later I went to plug it back in and press the power button but it wouldnt power on at all.

I dont know what it could be, Im not to savvy with hardware.
Any help would be much appreciated, im really not interested in buying new parts right now so Im hoping its an easy fix, if not..then that sucks.

Thanks

A:Computer won't power on after pulling power cord out from computer

Pulling the plug after it had shut down should not have been a problem.
You may like to check that you pushed the plug all the way back into the socket and that the switch on the back
of the computer is on and the mains plug is switched on (most common causes of computers not starting)

If you pulled the plug during the shutdown, that could have damaged the hard drive and the operating system.
In that situation the computer will still usually power up,but not load the OS.

Please confirm that it doesn`t power up at all,no lights no sound or that it does power up,but nothing loads up.
Then we can maybe suggest more things.

Hello!

My Toshiba Satellite P755-S5265 has not been able to turn on at all. That's because the AC adapter would not be charging the battery nor would it operate the computer.

Whenever I would plug in my adapter, a weird clicking noise would come out from the computer. Also, the AC adapter charging light would blink continuously as well. I

took apart my laptop and discovered that the end my of DC power jack was the source of the clicking. When I mean the end, I don't mean the area where I plug in my adapter, it's the other end that's connected to the motherboard.

Does anybody have any advice on what I should do? Is my laptop dead and done for?

Thank you so much in advance!

Further information; this is what my manufacturer of my laptop suggested for my USB issues View Document. After step B. of the power cycle directions, my computer works fine.

Edit: I have skipped all the steps prior to the power cycle, and it still fixes my problem. It is not a software update that is fixing the problem.

battery is inside "sealed" and may be difficult to access.
ran fine yesterday, shut down with 20% battery life.

if the ac plug is unplugged then i can get the led to turn off but once pushed, it ony flashes. no results

warranty is expired.

i currently have it plugged in but no flashing light as i have not pushed the power button. im hoping that it will take a charge or correct itself with time.

what do you suggest? thank you

A:i have a lenovo edge 15 model80k9. led power light is blinking but computer will not repond. no power up . the battery is "s

Try the following...

1. Take out (or take it off) the charger.
2. Next take out the battery
3. Now hold down power button for 20 seconds and then rinsert battery.
4. Now put it on the charger again

NOTE: Make sure charger is plugged into the main power supply (not an extension cord, surge protector, etc.)

Sometimes, when the device is not plugged in directly, it doesn't get the power it needs. Holding the power button, while you restart it, clears out the temporary ram (no it won't delete anything you have saved) and will give the device access to the ram it needs.

Recently I installed a new game on my computer (Far Cry 3), and after a while playing it, my computer suddenly shut down, just like a power outtage (except the power was not out).

After debating with friends, I went more towards a hardware problem rather than a software problem, so I thought something could have too high temperature (CPU, GPU, the HDD, etc.).

I have two HDD's, and they used to be together, but I decided to separate them, to reduce their average temperature.

I installed a software called CPUID HWMonitor, and it shows me these values (when browsing and not playing the refered game):

Note that this has happened before with previous games (Neverwinter and Guild Wars 2), and I'm still not sure whether this is a hardware or software problem, since separating both HDD didn't solve the problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Both are avira related. So better you uninstall Avira. At least as a try. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Uninstall MagicISO.

I have a ECS P4.945GCT-M/1333 (3.0) 775 mATX Motherboard and I installed Intel E2180 cpu and put memory stick on it. The computer won't boot - the cpu fan moved a second when I plugged in the power, and the stopped. If I disconnect the auxillary power cable, the CPU fan just can start, but of course it won't post. If I also disconnect the cpu fan, the power supply fan starts and I can see keyboard lights turned on for a second.

I measured the power on auxillary cable and it is ok: 2 12v and 2 GND. I am pretty sure that the power supply is good: I put on another power supply there and it is the same thing.

When I got home from work tonight, my Win7 desktop appeared to be asleep, which is normal. I hit the power button to wake, it, walked away, and when I came back, it was not up as I'd have expected.

I looked more closely and something really weird was happening.

The fan would turn on and the power lights would come on. Not sure if I heard the HD (there's an OS C drive, and mirrored data D drives). Three seconds later, it would power off, without anything ever displaying on the monitor, no bios screen, nothing. This would just keep repeating.

I managed to get the CD drive open and put a boot disk in, but the whole sequence happens so fast that it doesn't even recognize the CD or try to boot from it.

Right now I have the computer turned off and unplugged, and hope that this will rectify itself with the passage of time.

Have you done any overclocking?

I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:

Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown

The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.

I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm pretty sure there is some tweak in Windows 10 that would fix this, but I haven't found it yet. Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to offer.

A:Power down button does not completely turn computer power off

I found the solution on another thread. If you have this problem try the following:
1. Log in as an administrator.
2. Right click the Menu button.
3. Left click -> Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable
4. Uncheck the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended)
5. Make sure Hibernate is unchecked.
6. Left click Save changes.
The next time you shut down the computer, it will be completely powered off. At least this worked on my machine.

Last night my computer blue screened about times then it just stopped turning on altogether Wheni plug the power supply into the motherboard the neon fan turns on for a milisecond but that seems to be the only way that i can tell that there s power going to the with is switch it? but turn through on wont going Computer power power there motherboard I ve tried different power supplies different processor different BIOS batteries different RAM etc but no matter how many times i try to turn it on it just wont turn on I do recall doing something innthe BIOS last night which seemed to start this dilemer I went into power management and did something to the power switch option Computer wont turn on with power switch but there is power going through it? then set everything back to default settings This is when things started to happen then my pc just wouldn t turn on at all It s a socket MSI CoreCell Could something i did in the BIOS really be causing this problem and is there a way to fix it Like i said there does seem to be power going to the motherboard but it simply wont turn on i even tried different power switches just in case Any help would be greatly appreciated I just don t want to buy another motherboard as most shops don t cell them any more and it means i d have to buy a new processor too nbsp

A:Computer wont turn on with power switch but there is power going through it?

If it is a BIOS setting, removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes should clear it. Since you've already changed the battery more than once, it would seem that is not the problem. Considering what you already tried, it might be the motherboard itself or possibly the graphics card but my money is on the motherboard. Just to be sure do you have another graphics card to test with?

I ran a "free" virus scan on my computer after I got a message that I had hundreds of viruses, and now I keep getting these pop-ups that say "Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer." It keeps trying to get me to activate Antivirus 360 for secure Internet surfing. My printer isn't printing now, either. I've tried printing out directions for removing malware, etc. to no avail.

BroadJump - This is the newer name for BroadJump Foundation Client (BJCFD) from BroadJump.com, now Motive. The software collects information on your Internet activity and sends it to your ISP so that your ISP can serve you advertisements related to the type of sites you visit. I suggest that you carry out the fixes indicated below but I would approach your ISP as soon as possible and ask them how to remove it and why they installed it in the first place. Do not attempt to uninstall the program yourself.

First time poster, but long time advice user on this forum. I have ran Combo Fix and i have the log saved, but as the directions for posting states, i'm not going to post that log until i'm requested to. I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 and everything was running fine until i opened an infected file (infected with what i'm not sure). At this point, my computer refuses to open any antivirus software, and when i try to use microsoft update, i get a 404 not found error. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you guys.

You've done a lot to diagnostic the probleme. But there's a path you didn't follow. CPU heat. I think your 8 hours torture test should have show that, but maybe not.

You should have posted this HJT log in the HijackThis section and not here. If you are thinking of malwares, have a look at the link in my sig. Don't start a new topic, we'll move you in the right section.

I can still give you a hardware related advice before the security techs handle this : you could download everest, or install the temperature monitor program that was on your motherboard drivers CD if there was one, and check that your temperatures and fan speeds are correct. What are your system specs (PSU, motherboard, processor, ram, video card, hard drives, ...) ? Pentium 4 are known to throttle down if overheating. You could also open your case and check that your CPU fan and heatsink are well seated and that they are not cloged by dust.

If your HJT report comes clean (haven't seen anything at first glance, but only security techs are allowed to analyse HJT reports), come back here and we'll look for other softwares or hardwares issues.

Hi, I am having a probem with my daughter's computer not getting to the desktop; it boot up then after typing in paasword it goes to the welcome screen then the dark screen with the cursor in the middle and that is as far as it goes. She had tried to install and run the malwarebytes scanner before and that would not work; I downloaded the Combofix on my other computer but wanted your opinion on this matter. thanks

Hello ofgjuner,As no logs have been posted, I am shifting this topic from the specialized HiJack This forum to the Am I Infected forum.PLEASE DO NOT NOW POST LOGS unless a log is specifically requested.I downloaded the CombofixPlease note: ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert." It is NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.Running ComboFix by yourself is like performing open heart surgery on yourself--the scalpel and other surgical tools that is ComboFix is meant to be wielded by a highly trained surgeon only in emergencies or dire circumstances. When the surgeon is thru s/he leaves the room. So combofix should be removed from a system once it has accomplished its job, unlike an AV that is there to protect you from future infections.. . . CF does make some alterations to your system if you run it. Even if you had no malware removed and run the uninstall command, some things may be different now on your system. I can tell you that one thing is that all your restore points will be flushed out and a new one created. There is a good reason to do that when you have a severe infection--but if you aren't infected you might need those restore points.Read and abide by the disclaimer people. It's there for a reason. Stick to running and protecting yourself with a good AV and firewall and an anti-malware scanner or two. If you feel you need a second opinion, try running online scans. If you feel you might need surgery, come here to BC and ask for help--that is what we're here for. From: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...t&p=1159014That said, we need some additional information:What is your operating system: Windows XP, Vista, etc.?What security programs are installed? A:spyware on computer [Moved from XP]

Hello, and welcome -

I see you've also posted for assistance at another forum.

If you still require assistance for this issue....

Please post again in your thread and let them know you'll no longer require assistance.

Posting in multiple forums dilutes the help of volunteers everywhere, and we're already overworked as it is.

Once you've done that, do this next:

Please do this:

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Click Upload.

What DSS will do: create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Hi,

I have a 17" Gateway laptop that i bought in 2007. It has Windows Vista, 120 GB hard drive, and 1 GB memory. My computer works fine when on a flat hard surface but when i move it or put it on a bed where there is movement the screen goes dark, but there is still power going to the computer. Most of the time when i turn off the computer pick it up and shake or move it around a little the computer will start up normally again, but other times it will start with no screen, but there is still power and the num lock light is still on but the cpu or hard drive light i'm not sure which that light represents(i'm pretty sure it is the hard drive light) does not come on either.

Please Help!

Hi,

In preparing to move files from my computer, I sorted through them and moved the folders I was going to copy to the desktop. Now when I try to look at My Computer, all I get is a blank window with one of those searching flashlights in the middle of it. Guess I should have copied to the desktop instead of moving.

I just spent a few minutes trying to move it back and haven't been able to see a way to do it. Right mouse click doesn't offer a 'move'. I didn't think I could drag it into My Computer if the flashlight is moving. Any ideas?

Thanks
adam

Hi...

Just moved my computer to another room. Unhooked everything and hooked it back up. Now my speakers are not work. They are plugged into the hole that says in line. there's a headset hole and and a microphone hole. (I hope i'm not being toooo technical here....lol...okay i admit it....everything on my computer is called a hickey or a thingy. Anyway...I've done the troubleshooter and i can't figure out what is wrong. There on no yellow marks in device manager or whatever....I may have had them plugged into the microphone hole to begin with but corrected that and then restarted. all the volumes are where they are supposed to be.....but absolutely not a peep from them....Any thoughts?

Demetria-Beth

A:Moved my computer...now no sound !!!

Start playing an audio file and switvh the speakers through the other two jacks. One of them should be it.

In line is usually for an input device, speakers are usually a green jack.

For the last few weeks, my computer has been acting up by slowly turning white randomly. I soon found that when it started to turn white, I could move the hinge or shake the computer gently, and it would start working again. Now, I can't move my computer and mess with the hinge, or else it will freeze, but will unfreeze when I move it again. For example, it did it three times while just typing this.
What's causing this and how do I stop it?

A:How should I upgrade my computer? [MOVED]

no need to upgrade, you've got a nice machine.

if you're into gaming, the most important thing is the graphics card. it will let you play modern games at high settings.

also, a bigger monitor would be nice, for more pixels and detail - but then you may need a new graphics card to drive all those new extra pixels, and a new graphics card may mean you need a bigger power supply.

Now, upon start up, I get this message that "New hardware's been found." It's not recognizing Toshiba RNDIS adapter. I think that's my cable modem, but my modem's running fine. I just canceled the wizard. Should I be concerned about this? How can my modem be operating if the computer hasn't recognized it?

Also, after the move across the room, my mouse apparently fried because it wouldn't move the cursor out of the left hand edge of my screen. I plugged in another mouse, and it's working fine. I really prefer the other mouse if there's any way you know of I can get it working again.

Also, I'm just curious, what is this sethc.exe ?

thanks in advance,

Hi, thanks in advance for looking. I have a problem with my computer - I run free Avira and Comodo, but the last week or so, I keep getting different alerts popping up about viruses (which I ask to be quarentined), but they keep appearing every so often. Also, my scan sometimes shows hidden objects and sometimes a virus. I also have various files which I can't get rid of appearing on my desktop such as ~WRL0292.tmp.
I've tried to run a few things such as gmer, but it didn't seem to work properly - the scan button was disabled. I've also tried to follow your procedure by running dds.scr, but notebook opens and it says must be opened under win32.
I'm really worried and wonder if I should contact the banks as I've bought some stuff on the internet recently.
Thanks!

I get on the internet regularly at my house with my highspeed ethernet connection. I wanted to move my computer to another house which is hooked up with the same ISP, same type of internet.
So I put the ethernet cord in my ethernet port that was onboard my computer. I get a "limited or no connectivity" error. So I put the ethernet jack into my PCI network card, and it does the same thing.

Loose connection or dry solder joint are the most likely candidates, probably in a power connection to the main board somewhere after the mains/battery input.

I want to move the OS (Win 10 pro) from an older computer to a new build.
The sys. started as a Win 7 full retail sys. Then was updated Win 8 / 8.1. Then updated to Win 10.
Can someone say if this can be moved and then activated? Thanks, undine.

A:Can this OS be moved to a new build computer?

It should; if it is truly a truly a retail key. The upgraded OS to 10 should have converted the product key to a 10 key. So, using the MS media creation tool with the ISO on a USB (easiest IMO) and doing a clean install with your current key should work just fine. If not then a phone call to MS to activate it over the phone will work.

While installing the new optical drive, you might have inadvertently loosened one or more connectors. Recheck all data and power cables to make sure they are tight, including all those to the motherboard.

After shutting down, my computer will not power-on again unless I unplug the power-cord, then plug it back in (or use the psu on/off switch).

I have tried changing PSU, same thing happens.

My guess it has to be related to my motherboard.
I have the latest bios. I have reset the bios.
This happened after upgrading to a opteron 180 cpu. But I'm not sure if its related.
I have tried disconnecting the RAM, harddrive, graphics card to no avail. Also tried refitting the power-button cables.
Computer is rock stable once its on ...It powers on fine if I switch off the PSU with the button that is located on the psu, or pull out the power-cable before turning it on.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

A:computer will not power-on unless I unplug power cable first

Unplugging the power supply, or disconnecting from the source allows everything to reset in the power supply and on the motherboard. This situation is most always associated with a defective power supply.

Since you have changed the power supply and the condition persists then the problem almost has to be a fault in the motherboard POWER GOOD circuitry.

If it were my machine I would just get in the habit of turning off the power supply after use, and live with it. Unless the problem is something obvious such as a "bulging" or leaking capacitor, chasing a problem like this is like chasing ghosts.

A:Computer won't power on after pulling out power cable

You need to go into 'device manager' (which is a part of your Windows program). Click 'start menu': choose 'Help and Support' icon. Type 'device manager' in the 'search box'..print out the instructions. If you are new to troubleshooting your computer: print all instructions. It will save you a lot of time and mistakes. Look at the device manager screen, click on 'monitor', then 'properties'. Next do the same on 'display adapters' This will tell what's not 'operating properly' and whether it's the driver's. 'Help & Support' has much help to offer...but not all the answers by a long shot. Good Luck.

A:Computer wont power on after power loss

The power switches do go bad and can result in all kinds of strange behavior. You might try replacing the switch.

But before you do try removing the switch and starting/stopping the computer using just the wires to see if it is indeed the switch.

A:Computer won't power up (poss. power supply)

Does it happen with any other appliances? as in does using the toaster while using the kettle While your mate is in the Electric shower, telly on, or ironing?

Possibly a static build up, it is possible, Wher are you situated??
What voltage are you on?

What is the make and model of your comp? is it the same as your friends?

is your machine custom built or is it a brand?
Answer a few of them and we will try to narrow it down 4 you..

Mean while if you could get your hands on a spare PSU that would be handy. And remember when dealing with PSU's alway leave them to sischarge for at least 24hrs,
the 3 D'S, Disconect, discharge, dismantle.

I had a similar problem once and someone told me its a virus attack.... Its probably the same for you too. I had to format the C: drive and re-install the OS then. You may try that too...

Take the old NIC out and see if system boots.

Also, see if system will boot into Recovery using your Windows 7 DVD.

I was cleaning my office and moving my office around yesterday. I unplugged the computer and disconnected all peripherals in order to move it to the other side of the room. Once everything was in place in the new location, I connected everything and then plugged in the computer. the fan came on, leds show up on my ethernet port, but the computer won't turn on. I press the on button and get nothing, the fan continues to turn, and only turns off if I unplug the machine... is this a PSU problem?

I have already purchased a new and improved computer, but need to access my old one for contact information, legal documents, and website addresses that I can't afford to lose.

I am considering bringing it in for service but thought if the suggestion is that the PSU is bad then I might just switch that out myself.

please advise.

A:Unplugged and Moved Computer, Now it will not turn on

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Just try starting the computer with just the mains cable and monitor attached.

The reason I say that, is because not so very long ago, I had the same problem.

It turned out that the din connector to my tv card was shorting out.

This is windows home edition xp (service pack 2) version 2002 but on the copyright it says 2004. This was the Cd installed to system and I google it and all of them say that its a trojan. So if it cannot recognize.exe files, how am i suppose to run the programs you suggest- vould there be another way? The other user thats under computer is locked and somehow someone had changed the password, but we were able to access the admin, which we usually never use. When i try to run mcafee file, it says win32 doesnt support it but on mcafee site-it says it supports it.

Hello hapeihz

Please read this article? "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information in this same thread.

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can

I will get a mod to move this thread to the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:  List last 10 Event Viewer log  List Installed Programs  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy,  taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.
Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):
Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot. You will see the following prompt:
Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard
Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

A:Infected Computer - {Moved Thread}

Ctra10:

Your computer is badly infected.

I don't see any full-time anti-virus program installed and running in the background, and I don't see any anti-malware/anti-spyware program installed.

Your log shows numerous O16 entries that are associated with FaceBook and MySpace and on-line gaming.

Between that type of on-line activity and not having any protection, it's not surprising that your computer is infected.

Your thread is already in the "Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs" section, so now it's a matter of you waiting for assistance and instructions by a yellow shield malware expert.

--------------------------------------------------------------

In the meantime, do the following:

Go here and click the green icon to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41.

Go here and click the green icon to download SUPERAntiSpyware 4.29.0.1002.

Just download them and save them for now. Don't install them nor do anything with them yet.

Also, uninstall Logitech Desktop Messenger.

In an attempt to protect your computer and launch a pre-emptive strike against spyware, sometimes running too many anti-virus and spyware programs can cause more harm to the simple operation of your computer. That is not always the case.
Have you checked task manager to see if any programs are consuming all of your CPU?

I own a dell XPS P4 3.6 ghz computer, it has worked fine for over a year but recently I had to move it. When I restarted the computer it would not go past Xp screen, when it was reaching log on screen, the screen would appear for a split second and then disappear. I left the computer alone thinking when I had some time I would have a get look at it. When I started it up next time it worked fine, no problems at all. Once again I moved it and the problem occured again. Again I left it and when I came back to it, it was fine. I think something is loose inside so when moved it causes a problem but I would appreciate any help and advice to what I should try to remedy problem

If you just bought it you may either want to return it or call Gateway support and open a support ticket. A brand new machine should not be working this way.

A:Activate Win 7 Moved From Dead Computer?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

The "Product Key" you have listed is in fact the Product ID, which determines whether you have a retail or OEM version of Windows.

If it is an OEM version your Product ID would read xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx.

Please delete the Product ID from your post to avoid complications when somebody "borrows" it to activate a dodgy copy of Windows.

You therefore most likely have a retail version of Windows whose licence can be transferred to another computer providing the software has been removed from the old computer.

Telephone activation should succeed without any difficulty.

This tutorial explains the procedure: Activate Windows 7 by Phone

A:Computer Randomly Restarts[moved from xp]

Hello sofine121,

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

Also be sure to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

***************************************************

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

------------------------------------------------------------

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

What DSS will do:create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
DSS automatically runs HijackThis 1.99.1 for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool. Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"
A text file will appear which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so!

------------------------------------------------------------

Run scan with Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe):

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt in your next reply.

Please include the following in your next reply:

Smitfraud report
main.txt
an attached extra.txt

A:Major computer problems[moved from xp]

Hi TFF_Tiger,

You most certainly do have a problem. Not least of which is XP Antivirus. This is a fake program.

Quote:

What this programs does:

XP Antivirus 2008, XP Antivirus 2009, and XPAntiVirus are rogue antivirus programs that, when run, display false results as a tactic to scare you into purchasing the software. Older versions of XP Antivirus would create 9 entries in your Windows Registry that impersonate infections on your machine. In reality, though, these registry entries were harmless and had absolutely no effect on your computer. Instead, these entries were set so that XP AntiVirus can find them when scanning your computer and report them as infections. The newer of versions of the program , such as XP Antivirus 2008 and XP Antivirus 2009, instead just display false results when scanning your computer that state infections were found. In order to remove these fake infections, though, you would first need to purchase the software as the trial does not allow you to remove them.

While running, XP Antivirus will also display fake alerts stating that you are infected or under attack from some type of threat. These alerts are fake and can be ignored. If you do click on the alert, though, it will prompt you to purchase the software. Examples of text contained in these alerts can be found below.

Privacy Violation alert!
XP antivirus detected Privacy Violation. Some program is secretly sending your private data to untrusted internet host. Click here to block this activity by removing threats (Recommended).

or

System files modification alert!
Some critical system files of your computer were modified by malicious program. It may cause system instability and data loss. Click here to block unathorised <sic> modification by removing threats (Recommended).

As you can see these programs are fraudware because they make changes to your computer and then state these changes are infections as a scare tactic to have you purchase the software. It goes without saying that under no circumstances should you buy it. The older program, XPAntivirus, does come with a removal option in the computer's Add or Remove Programs list, but when you attempt to uninstall it, all that happens is the entry is removed from the list and program's process is terminated. Next time you reboot, XP AntiVirus will start up again. The newer versions of the program do not contain an entry in the Add or Remove Programs list at all.

Hi All
My Mother in Law has just moved house. The computer was in complete working order when packed and then re-assembled by myself.

The telephone line has been re-connected by a BT engineer and they say she has broadband on the line.

The router a Netgear DG834 comes on with a constant green light and the twin computers in the bottom corner of the screen show Local Area Connection 100Mbps. I have triple checked all of the cables etc.

The problem is I cannot get any form of internet connection. The LAN connection status shows almost no activity. Nothing in nothing out

As before, no settings have been changed, just the location of the computer. She has even gone for the same telephone number.

Any thoughts as to what I have done and how to rectify would be most welcome.

Barny

A:<Moved> CAN'T WAtch DVDs on my computer..

This may sound really stupid, but are you sure it is a DVD-ROM drive and not a CD-ROM drive? That would explain your problem.

Otherwise you could simply have a defective DVD-ROM drive.

My girlfriend's computer dell inspirion was pretty much completely infested with spyware viruses trojans etc I used lavasoft adaware spybot and AVG while in safe mode to try to get rid of them but it didn't even make a small difference Really bad popups and there were a ton of fake windows security messages in the toolbar The internet was almost unusable Need fix ran computer a girlfriend's Tried but end. Need Help. [moved] Her's however installed a new windows xp operating system and left the old one there Now when i start it up there is a choice between two windows operating sytstems but when i try to choose the old one it says there are problems with it and won't let me access it And the new one didn't install everything completely and while virus free is more blank than it was when she first received it It seems like the cd didn't install enough to get it to normal and i can't even set up the internet She already had backed up the only thing on the computer she wanted to keep and doesn't care about saving anything As for the questions i wanted to have answer in cliff notes move me to a different sub forum if necessary - How can I completely erase everything on the harddrive both operating systems to the point where the entire harddrive is completely blank and i can try and start over - Will that eliminate the really bad spyware virus problems she had The new operating system hasn't had any problems yet but to be sure i wanted to wipe everything clean - Is there a sub forum that could help me get everything running properly after completely erasing and reinstalling windows Thank you and i'm sorry if this is a typical beginner question and possibly in the wrong forum I browsed a bit the other day but couldn't tell where to put it and how to ask it Thank's again

A:My computer keeps crashing[moved from bsod]

I did notice in it potential malware/spyware, as you have entries of recently installed programs showing MyWebSearch and FunWebProducts, which are both spyware/malware. To clean that up you'll wanna take it with our security team in the appropriate forum.

As for what's causing the crashing, I'd like for you to do a couple things. First, turn on Driver Verifier. Then, attempt to start Windows normally and let it crash. Do this a couple times. Then, go back into Safe Mode, and generate a JCGriff Report. Send it to us for analysis.

We moved my computer upstairs, and now my speakers won't work. I checked all plugs 10 times, and think it's right. I have windows Vista. Please help.

push front speaker out

A:We moved my computer, and now my speakers won't work

Make sure your volume is turned up in windows.
Your speakers should be plugged in to the light green connector on the back of your pc.
Try the speakers in a diffrent system, an ipod or walkman will do
Try a set of headphones in the headphone jack on your pc.

This will help narrow down the problem.

Hey guys and girls,
Just at the title says that what happens whenever I am in the middle of doing something it just shuts down and then may take a couple of trys before it can fully boot up again. I have Windows XP and haven't installed anything recently so no programs are messing it up.

Any help or advice in tackling this problem would be appreciated?

Cheers
Ross

Hello vllygirl,As no logs have been posted, I am moving this topic from the specialized HiJack This forum to the Am I Infected forum.PLEASE DO NOT NOW POST LOGS unless a log has been specifically requested.downloaded ComboFix, crossed my fingers and we were off to the races.ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. From: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...t&p=1159014Please tell us what your operating system is: Windows XP, Vista, etc.Orange Blossom

A:My Computer Keeps Restarting...what Is This???? [Moved from Hardware]

Hi, welcome to TSF.

Since you have posted a HJT log I will move this thread to the Security center.

For a couple days now I've been experiencing issues with my computer. Searching on Google and clicking links either redirects to the same Google page, or to a few very suspicious advertising sites. Also any attempts to visit the website I clicked the link for will always redirect back to Google, even if typed in manually. The only way to solve this is through clearing my cache.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware seems to not work either, Spybot S&D doesn't work anymore, attempts to visit the Microsoft update site goes to Google.com and Zonealarm is always alerted to me as disabled. And an attempt to download Microsoft's malware removal tool was unsuccessful. It downloaded, but the .exe was said to not be a valid Win32 application or something. I really need help with this.
