I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would boot into BIOS. See if the Hard Drive is recognized there.

I can walk you through the booting into BIOS procedure if you need me to.

I have a HP Pavillion DV1000. Since last 2 days, it is giving me starting problem. When it does not start, then i remove the battery out and then put it again, repeat this process several times and sometimes that works.

I have 2 batteries, sometimes i keep changing on batteries and that also works. My both batteries are working fine, the only issue is laptop does not start by pressing the 'on' button the first time.

Once the laptop starts, then it will not shut down till i give shut down command.

What can be the problem?

My HP Pavilion DV1000 Does not power up. When it first happened, I did the Power-FN key combo and the NB did power up once. Now nothing. I removed all components. There is power coming out of power adapter. Bought a Targus power adapter for another NB and works fine. When I it connect to dv1000, the blue led on PA slowly dims and goes off.

I believe it to be either power on MB or MB itself.

Any suggestions?

I'm afraid it sounds like your screen has died. If you are willing to spend a bit of money your might be able to pay for HP to replace the screen for you but there isn't much you can do yourself.

hey mates,
just got myself a free (loaded) hp pavilion dv1000.
reason it was free is because it won't start, won't accept power in any way, obviously i'll probably use it for parts, but i've seen a few posts about this being a common problem with dv1000s and that soldering the power linkup to the motherboard can correct this problem.
first question, has anyone done this successfully? or know someone that has.
and second question, if not, can anything think of something else that would cause this problem?

base history of the machine: (i don't have its exact specs beyond knowing that the original buyer loves desktop replacement quality laptops) original owner bought it, had problems with it occasionally shutting off without warning (hard shutdown) then eventually it just wouldnt start, no other known problems.

pls tel me how to reinstall degital media internal card reader

A:hp dv1000 digital media pro.

Welcome to seven forums key4you: On the HP support site thier is a XP driver avalible for your card reader. You can download this driver and try to install it in compatibility mode. Compatibility Mode If this will not work you can go to device manager and copy and paste the ID string. To do this go to the device click on it>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id. Copy and Paste the string. Card readers seem to be pretty generic in the since a lot of laptop manufaturers use the same Rioch or Texas instuments. So it should be able to find one that works. I'm not quite sure what's going on and I don't know where to start. I have a HP DV1000 and the touchpad is no longer working. The light to disable and enable the touchpad is not working either. I'm wondering if it is a hardware problem, but I don't quite understand how that would happen. The laptop has never been dropped or had any major trauma. I'm not quite sure where to start at all to diagnose this. Any ideas anyone?

i don't know how to diagnose, but I'm guessing you have an external (USB) mouse? Anyhow, make sure you have the latest Touchpad driver for your device and OS. And also make sure you didn't actually delete the driver.

Hello all,

I tried upgrading Windows XP home edition to XP Professional on the pavilion dv1000 and run into some problems. Firstly, the upgrade did not succeed because the installation could not collect the required system information. I guessed that this was due to the drivers. When I tried rebooting into the home edition, I got a file missing error: \windows\system32\config\system.sav. Now I think I know what is happening: the sata controller is the problem.

A few questions:

1) was the sata controller drivers the reason why I could not upgrade to Windows Professional?

2) How can I recover my data ( is the only way by getting an external case and connecting the Sata HDD to it?)

3) How do I install XP without floppy to load the drivers. I am familiar with slipstreaming , however I cannot find the dv1000 sata drivers on the hp site!

Thank you all very much!

A:Notebook Display Problem with DV1000

There`s an idea about removing the battery here -

If that`s no good more here -

I have replaced a few backlights and usually it's not too tricky provided you keep track of
where everything goes, digital camera is great for this. Often you have
to bend a bunch of little tabs to remove the metal frame from around the
display panel and sometimes there's a bunch of screws and some tape
holding things together but the tube is normally not too hard to find
along one edge of the panel.

Have done several IBM, Dell, etc notebooks and HP NBs and desk-tops.
In general, try replacing the tube(s) first; only if a new tube doesn't
work should you replace the inverter. Also in general, you will need
patience and a good loupe to identify how things are assembled. Double
sided tape and hot melt glue (or something similar...I've heard it
called "Panda snot") are very popular for assembling displays; there
are rarely more than 2 or 4 screws anywhere. I've also found that any
CCFL tube that physically fits will usually work just "exact"
replacement is not necessary. However, if you don't find an exact

First off, thanks for taking the time to read this post. I have had quite a few issues with this laptop. A few years ago one of my ram modules somehow stopped working. Not that I have all the appropriate diagnostic tools, but I was not able to figure out exactly what happened. I replaced that with two new modules bringing the total memory up to 1.5gb. Just last year the motherboard fried, after a very stressful three and a half hours I managed to get a new one put in. After which I started having issues with the keyboard on the laptop. every key works, except for the h, j, m, n, u, y, 6, and 7 keys. I have researched for the last two days trying to figure out what is going on with it. I have also tried replacing the keyboard with a new replacement part to no avail. PLEASE HELP!! Thanks again.

A:Solved: HP DV1000 Keyboard issues

Could be a fault with the keyboard ribbon after being reinserted following the Mboard change.

Before checking that, do you have an external (standard PC) keyboard you could connect to a USB port or PS/2 port on the laptop? This will allow you to see whether it is a fault on the Mboard or the laptop keyboard.

Hi all, just installed Windows 7 on this dinosaur and everything is up and running smoothly except for the wireless. Windows update automatically installed the driver for:

Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG

and it shows up fine under Device Manager > Network adapters. It detects nearby networks and shows the option to connect, but I have been unable to connect to any network. My Device manager also has PCI Modem listed under Other devices that have not installed.

Shouldn't the installation of the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG also install my PCI Modem or are these two separate things?

Anyone know how to upgrade the hard drive on an HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop (out of warranty)? I've upgraded desktops but never a laptop before... I Googled the topic but couldn't find anything useful, and of course HP's not providing easy upgrade instructions...

A:HP Pavilion dv1000 hard drive upgrade - how to?

simple. clone the current contents of your drive to your new hd - use a usb to ide adapter. use a clone tool like acronos. Some new drives have kits.

then remove the caddy containing your old hd from your laptop. you may have to unscrew it from your system.

carefully slide the caddy out. if there is a pin adapter on the end of the HD remove it, you will need it on the new drive. If not, don't worry about it.

unscrew the hd from the caddy, remove and replace it with the new one.
put the pin adaper on the new hd if applicable.
slide the caddy back in, screw it in and reboot! simple too easy!

How could you get locked out of your account? Don't you use the password regularly?

Use the DVD provided to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with the licensed version. If under 4gb RAM use 32 bit, otherwise 64 bit.

There is a step there to rescue your files using the DVD or rescue disk.

Stick closely to the steps given and you'll end up with a perfect install, which you can then save as an image so you never have to reinstall again.

A:Need Help with HP Pavillion

Solved the problem myself. Opened the tower and changed the port that the SATA drive cable connected to. At least after doing that and restarting the computer I was able to get into BIOS. Showed no hard drive as being recognized. Went to HP's site and found that Seatgate had a problem with some of the hard drives (500, 700, etc.) After calling a technician with HP it was decided that the hard drive had failed (no indication of it failing-it just stopped!!!)

HP is sending a new hard drive and a recovery disk (the recovery partition was on the hard drive that failed. No cost. There was still 50 days left on the warranty.

I guess we were LUCKY!

Thanks for looking at my computer problem.

Trying to help my daughter out, She has a laptop HP Pavillion DV6 that will only boot in the safemode. She called HP and of course she is 60 days out of warranty. Any suggestions? She's try to restore it to a point about a week ago but the same thing keeps happening, just boots in safemode.

Thanks for any and all suggestions,

Hi sonbon,

Does the computer give out an error when your daughter tries to boot the computer to windows normally? Go to the safe mode menu again and this time, choose "Boot the computer to last known good configurations". See if this helps out at all. I would also recommend performing an In-Place Upgrade(Windows Repair) on the computer. You will definitely need your Windows 7 CD in order to perform this process. When was the last the computer was able to work successfully?

Hi. I bought this laptop used from someone online. I know it is old. It uses the FS1 socket, and has an A4 processor. So I can't expect too much. But it just locks up on me aall the time. As soon as I try to open anything, it just locks up. The day I got it, I was able to open Google Chrome and watch some Youtube videos. The next day, nothing. I think the HDD is screwed, and I would like to replace it with an SSD. My problem is, it will not detect my SSD. What can I do to get my SSD installed in this thing, so that hopefully I can use it for some basic things on the go?

After 10 hours I finally removed the battery again as there was no other way to do this. What can i do to revert to correct operation'/

Dear Customer, Try a Hard Reset as follows. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for a full minute.  Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ) and see if the notebook will start. If it doesnt load,Please perform the Steps as shown below:-1. Please "Turn OFF" the Notebook2. "Power ON" the Notebook and keep tapping the Escape Key during the start up to enter the Start-up Menu3. I closed my laptop and waited for it to cool down. After 3-4 hours I tried to start the laptop again, it switched on and then it went blank. Since, then it did not switch on.Below given is the total info: - 1. The red blinking light on the keyboard works blinks once when I press the power button.2. The LED light beside the charger is working fine.3. I tried doing a hard reset but it did not work. Can you please help me as to what should be done now?

A:HP Pavillion G6 won't start.

[email protected]_val, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion g6 Notebook and overheating and shutting down. Here is a link to overheating, as this might be the cause of the shutting down. If the Notebook has dust on the fans it could be overheating.  If that does not help at the end of this document it shows you to do a Hardware Test.  The final thing you should try is to restore the BIOS to factory defaults. F10 at the starting of the Notebook. Hope this helps. Please get back to me how this goes. If you wish to say Thanks for my efforts to help, click the Thumbs up to give me a Kudos.  Thanks.

Hi Frank and welcome

Thes point to pool_corruption (memory) probably caused by your Symantec.
I would remove symantec and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support

I would also run a memory test just to be sure.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. - Memory Diagnostic

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Hello Everyone,

I have a HP Pavilion N5425 Notebook. The HP logo shows up and then the screen goes blank with this message:

ADMtek Boot Agent V1.17_1401_03
PXE-E61 - Media Test Failure. Check Cable

PXE - MOF: Exiting ADMtek PXE ROM

Its been doing this for a couple of weeks, but when I was restarting the computer it was working fine. Now, I can't even get past this screen with this message, and it keeps coming up over and over, filling up the screen. Also, right before the message appears, the notebook makes a pop type of sound. Does anyone know what is going on with this notebook?

I appreciate all the help.

Thank you

Hello, my neighbour has a HP Pavillion g6 running Windows 8 and lately these days the computer has been crashing/rebooting and there appears some message with links to dump files. I have saved the .dmp file to a flash drive and attached it here.

I'm sorry but I cannot use the SF Diagnostic Tool because the computer is not with me at the moment and won't be with me for atleast 2 days, she's gonna be back with it somewhere at Thursday and I promised I'll ask for a solution on the net till then.

So if someone knowledgable from here can review the file and figure out what could be causing the problems that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

A:Crashing on a HP Pavillion g6

The lone memory dump blames NDProxy.SYS - a windows driver associated with networking. As such, it's possible that any network/Internet aware program can be causing this. Due to the info from the memory dumps, there is a possibility of a hardware problem, and a possibility that it may be with a USB device (but these are just guesses based on the data in the raw stack text - which may not even be signficant).

Please run Driver Verifier to attempt to force a BSOD with the offending driver's name. Please use this procedure: Driver Verifier Settings Let it BSOD 2 or 3 times, then generate the reports from the SF Diagnostic Tool and upload it with your next post.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Anyone here have any HP notebook or let alone any notebook at all that when you go to put it to sleep if hangs for a while then goes to sleep but comes back out? any known fixes?

A:HP Pavillion DV4 problems

I have an HP Notebook!

Are you running Vista on it? I have never had it come back out of sleep..but I did have it hang when going into sleep..

I now have Windows 7 on it and I really want to say that it was Vista that was making it hang when I would put it to sleep..Because when I put it to sleep under Windows 7 it does it in about 4 seconds, and when I resume it comes on in 4 seconds.. VERY FAST..

Have you always had this issue when first you got your PC?

The first thing I would try is to check Device Manger and check you network make make sure they are not set to "wake the computer"To do that click on the Start button, and search for Device Manger
Look for you network adapters, Under the network adapters and right-click on the adapter.(If you have more than one adapter repeat steps 2 and 3)
Select Properties and find the tab Power Management and make sure that the check-box for "Allow device to wake Computer" is UNCHECKED
Hope this Helps..and Happy Holidays..

I am not sure if HP older units had proprietary psu's but I have changed out some early P4's and they can take anything. HP has online support where you can chat with them so I suggest going there first. Oh, and that psu is junk. If it isn't Enermax, Antec, Thermaltake or Sparkle, I would not be buying it.

I am writing in regards to my HP Pavilion dv4000 which runs Windows XP (I'm not sure if there is more info needed). Anyway, I am writing because recently my computer started freezing some while I was typing, then freezing completely after 10 minutes or so. After another day or two, it would freeze in the middle of starting up (even in safe mode). I've tried doing a system restore but it freezes in the middle of this as well. Now it will make noises like it is starting up and the lights on the keyboard comes up, but the screen is black. I am not sure what is wrong. I read a post on here about the DVD drive causing a similar problem, but I don't know if that is the same thing or not. If anyone knows what may be causing this or what steps I can take to find out I would greatly appreciate it.

I ve never done this before and I m a little scared I m going to screw something up I need to completely reformat my old computer Its an HP Pavilion that s Pavillion HP Old Reformat about yrs old It was given to me by a family member who has had different computers since she got this one and has mixed all the CDs together so doesn t know what is what So I do not have original CDs I don t think back then they gave you CDs for XP anyhow It has an extra hard drive a friend put in - that apparently was never installed correctly as when you turn it on you get a message about it not being installed properly But it works From reading stuff online it seems to do a real reformat you must boot from the CD that came with the computer Windows XP Now as I said above I don t have this But what I do have is a Dell Operating System CD that came with my new Dell which also runs Windows XP Will I be able to reformat using only this CD Will everything be okay with it I m think I read that you may need a CD with drivers on it again don t have it Is that going to be a major issue Will the hard drive that my friend installed be okay Last but not least is there anything else I should be aware of Should I not even attempt this

A:Reformat Old HP Pavillion

You could attempt it as it can't hurt, but I would be very surprised if it worked as the Dell CD will be set up to run with Dell hardware.

If after you install Windows it won't boot properly try booting into Safe Mode.

A friend of mine phoned me tonight to tell me her old HP Pavillion had begun to struggle to power up over the last few days.

A big fat zero occured when she tried to turn the pc on over the weekend - it did power up after a couple of attempts. Gradually the number of attempts have increased until tonight when any number of button pushing would kick that monkey into life.

She has checked the power cable is fitting tight and the pc has not been removed.

Any suggestions?

Okay so generally I have gotten back OS s tons by disks and generally I use another computer to read the bad harddrive as a slave get my stuff saved put harddrive back wipe it s partition out then use back for Pavillion OS Help getting HP the format disk embedded on a Win XP disc to get it back and reload drivers programs info files But HP is different than the Help getting OS back for HP Pavillion Sony s Dell s and Fujitsus I usually Help getting OS back for HP Pavillion use They give no cd for the OS with their system and I m trying to get back a computer for Help getting OS back for HP Pavillion a friend Here s so far When slaving his harddrive it appears intact but I can t open two users and they are completely blank folders He tells me his daughter was saving a project but I can t find it so I d like to use a boot disk to log in safe made to have my friend see his files and have him or his daughter find them themselves before anything else I just see the Win XP even in safe or debugging mode go to start but get caught up forever in a loop on what usually is the user login screen So it s like it gets to the user login screen but offers no option to login I m not having luck with the boot disk it s extracted correctly to a floppy but it s won t run Win I m a total newb with the boot disk thing and honestly have never done it It was extracted correctly and is on the floppy When I went into BIOS and selected to run the floppy first it self extracted and appeared to be copying files When I reboot it lists options with CD support without cd support help file I select or and it just stays in DOS Prompt after installing the fake D drive on an A cursor When restarting I can t get I m new so is there a common step I m missing Do you just run a directory of in the background with a prompt and work with the ole directory system Any help is much appreciated nbsp

A:Help getting OS back for HP Pavillion

I do nto know answers to a lot of the issues listed - however,
HP's often have a recovery section on the harddrive - hitting F10 as you boot should bring up the recovery menu.

I am trying to get this hp pavillion desktop to boot from the A drive so I can format the HD. How do you get to the bios to change the boot sequence? It will not boot up in the A drive first.

was wondering if anyone could help me please, i installed windows 7 onto my laptop a while ago and as i don't use my CD-ROM very much i've only recently realised it no longer works, i've had a look under device management and 'coprocessor' has a yellow triangle by it and ! mark ?

I'm really useless when it comes to technology but was wondering if anyone could help me in finding out how to fix this problem please?

i've tried to update driver software but that does not work, and states windows could not find driver software for your device

and underneath properties it states;

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."

thanks again for any help really appreciate it

Hello I have had the above mentioned computer since Pavillion HP a220n new and I could not be happier with it so happy with it that I purchased a second one that I use at my place of business I am not interested in HP Pavillion a220n purchasing a newer model computer nor upgrading if that would mean changing drastically the characteristics of my machine Unfortunately recently I have been having some issues with one of them I have had to replace the hard drive in one of the units and since doing that I am having a second issue of the monitor freezing up with various colors and lines throughout and the mouse freezing within that frozen screen if that makes any sense I tried swapping out a different monitor that made no difference Contacted someone that I felt was more knowledgeable about what might be happening and this was his response Dead motherboard If it was just the video chip or card if you're fortunate enough to have a dedicated video card then the mouse and keyboard will still work I just fixed one for a lady with that exact same problem Motherboard looks to be the same color so it may even be the same model It was an ASUS Those OEM off the shelf motherboards that come in those OEM off the shelf computer are never really all that great Its sort of like something like an hp honda civic vs a hp Ford mustang Something to that effect OEM vs Aftermarket Those OEM boards are just BARELY enough to get the job done And they'll last for years doing it Sometimes forever But when they do die its typically because they're just inexpensive boards designed to sell to the masses Its another part that generally doesn't die But sometimes every once in awhile one does I have asked him for more specific information about where I should be getting a motherboard and what type would give me a plugnplay experience but have not heard back from him so I am hoping someone here could clue me in Below are some pictures of what my screen looks like after only a short period of time of turning the unit on also a shot of the internals of my computer maybe someone can confirm that I do not indeed have a video card Thank-you

A:HP Pavillion a220n

Looking at the specs for this computer it appears to have on-board graphics, at least as built, but have a look at this image, a modified version of your third one. It should be self-explanatory.
Basically, unless that expansion card that is plugged at the bottom left of your image is a video card, then you have on-board video and it is all part of the motherboard.
Even if it is on-board graphics, it might be worth your while if you are really attached to these computers (they are really due for a rest and replacement !) it might be possible to source a video card which you could use in one of the unoccupied expansion slots above that card.

HP Pavillion 500 desktop computer
push power button, processor fan moves ever so slightly, maybe 1/16th rotation and stops, and absolutely nothing else happens,
tested power supply unit, it is fine, i even replaced the power supply unit with a known working one, same problem,
i unplugged the 4 pin power connector from the motherboard, with this connector unplugged the computer will turn on, fans spinning etc etc, but i get nothing on the monitor,
motherboard im assuming?

A:HP Pavillion - No startup

It sounds like the motherboard.  Do you get any beeps?  It doesn't sound like you do.  If the board is more than a couple of years old, it could possibly be the dreaded "bad caps" (bad capacitors) problem.  You might look to see if you spot any that are swollen or leaking.
 Good luck,

Hope this is the right spot to post this! I have an HP pavillion notebook. The harddrive crashes due to a power surge in Italy. I had the recovery cds, but then found out my cd dvd player was inoperable as well. The computer place could not fix it. SO I brought it back to america. Now I cannot find my recovery cds!!! I wanted to put in the new hard drive and replace the cd dvd player, and recover my system. Now what can I do? Hp says they no longer have these recovery cds. Is my computer useless. I just bought it 2 yrs ago but it was refurbished. I spent quite a bit of money on it..about 1400 or so and do not want to have to throw it away and buy a new one.
Thanks for your help!!!!!!

I have what is probably a classic problem, of having a Laptop which
has had the Power Plug line yanked severely.... pulling out the center pin
and destroying the female jack. It would seem that replacing said jack would be a simple task.... IF you could gain access.

How do you open the case up?? I have an HP Pavillion xt178.
I have removed the HD, battery, access panels and all visible screws.
I've lifted the labels in the center of the bottom, looking for hidden screws and found none. Something still has a firm attachment to the center and I can see what looks to be a stand off, located in the center, but have no clue as to where to access it. I've trolled through the HP website, but can not find much more than rec.s to send it in for repair.

How and where does one gain the secret key??

I'm having trouble getting my laptop to boot up. When I connect the battery, or plug in the charger the power botton lights up, but doesn't boot up. When I press the power botton I hear a beep, and the light flashes then nothing.

A:HP pavillion not booting up

Hallo BIG_BDR,   Lets see if some simple TS can solve it. Take out our battery and ac adapater.Press down the power buttom 15 sec.Plug only the ac adapter in again and see if you can start it. If that does not work Press and hold down the windows buttom + "B" press the power buttom down in 2sec not more or less. after this 2 sec. release all the buttoms. Hope this solves your problem If not please let me know how many beeps your hear? are they/it short or long? Thanks.
