I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been having this problem for only the last week or so where my internet will stop working until I restart my computer, even though it says I am connected and internet is available.

The problem is not with my modem or my router. The internet works fine on every other computer.
I've run multiple antivirus scans on multiple programs. Clean.
Drivers are up to date.

Sometimes it disconnects after five minutes, sometimes forty, sometimes hours.
I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

I've been having this problem for the past 3-4 weeks now. I had an old Zyxel router that my broadband provider had given me for free and thought the problem might have been with it. Today I got a new router, an ASUS DSL-N55U and the problem persists.

My internet connection will disconnect (both cable and wireless for all devices) for seemingly no reason. Upon restarting the router, it will connect and be fine for a while until it happens again. Sometimes it stays online a few hours, other times a few minutes. It doesn't seem to be a specific application that disconnects it, as it disconnects when using many different applications and devices. (Although the old router did disconnect when refreshing game server lists, as it flooded the router. The new router doesn't seem to have this problem)

It's been bugging me like crazy, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Previously used this phone with Zune on my now-deceased PC with Windows XP (although even that took a while to establish). Now have an HP laptop with Windows 7 but Zune consistently refuses to recognize it and just comes up with the usual 'disconnect, turn off and reconnect'. I have downloaded both Microsoft Fixes and neither of them find anything wrong; I have uninstalled/reinstalled countless times; I have been into my certificates and made changes and/or deletions - and I m now simply running out of options ...and patience if I'm honest.

Almost all the internet advice suggests the fix is easy. Would the fact I've worked on this for over a month now suggest I am a one-off?!!!

A Google search revealed that there are many people who have had the same problem still unresolved after two years or so - just as often with other Windows Phones rather than Nokia. Can anyone help please?

Recently bought a MS mouse.

Have found that when I move the scroll wheel up or down more than really slowly
a little round icon appears with an up arrow and a down arrow. If the cursor is
above the icon, the page automatically scrolls upward without stopping, and the reverse for the cursor being below that icon. It starts without warning and always goes farther than I want and it goes so fast it's difficult, at best, to react to it before I'm way past what I want to see.

When I click, the thing goes away.

Any way to totally delete this annoying feature other than throwing the mouse away and
getting another Logitech?

A:Microsoft mouse scrolling so annoying

Wow I know that feeling. I had a MS mouse that did the same thing. Never could figure out how to stop it from doing that. I search over the internet and never found a answer. Even tried its support site. I ended up getting rid of it and going back to a Logitech.

Good morning everyone,

My database at work has hit a snag. Whenever I open it I get this error (see attach.) Once I click on yes, it still does not open. It just shows the loading circle (Vista) constantly...

Any help out there with this one? Always appreciated.

A:Computer won't reconnect Internet after drop out until restart

What type of service is this?

DSL or Cable?

The modem do you own it or rent it? If you rent it contact the ISP and tell them to send a hit to the modem. If they can't solve the issue then the modem would need to be replace. But fore for you do that let them check out the modem on their end. Before you do anything else.

Each modem as a reset button on the back or bottom of them. Also do not press this button unless the ISP Tech as told you to do so? If the ISP said the Modem and your service is working correctly then move on to your Router. If the Router is 1 year then you should do a power recycle or do a full backup of the configuration, then do a factory reset. Also see if they have the latest factory firmware update for it.

So do this...

1. Have the Modem check out by the ISP first
2. If Modem checks out okay then go to step 3
3. Do a power recycle on the Router
4. Backup Router configuration
5. Do a factory Reset
6. Do a Factory Firmware Update
7. Restore Router Configuration from a backup
8. Test the Router
9. Should Router not manage the DHCP correctly? Replace the Router.

Last step, only if you have tried all steps with the PC also.

1. On the PC remove the driver (DO NOT DELETE IT) for the NIC (network interface card)
2. Reboot the PC
3. Let Windows Find the NIC and install the driver again
4. If wired NIC it will configure itself or if Wireless you need to make sure that the SSID, Passcode (Password) are set right.

Also if you have Windows restore the driver and you get an error saying device can't be found either you download the driver from the PC maker or another source. If that doesn't work then replace the NIC by disable it on the Motherboard or replacing the CARD in one of the PCI or PCI-E slots. If it's internal on a laptop you need to disable that and use a USB Wireless NIC. Install it's drivers from whatever source you get with that device.

Good Luck!

Why doesn't my microsoft lifecam work with windows 7? Is there a simple way to fix this problem?

A:Windows 7/Microsoft Lifecam

We would need the model number to tell you a reason to why it is not working, and if there is a fix.. If there is no supported driver for windows7, you may need to attempt to use a Windows Vista driver and run it in compatibility mode.

If these options are not possible, you may have to purchase a new one.

I'm looking for a little 10-inch laptop for schoolwork and browsing, not gaming or anything intense like that.
Looking for what recommended minimum specs I should be on the lookout for.

I'm considering this little Samsung 10.1" Netbook featuring Intel Atom N455 Processor (N145)

My local pc folks are selling it for $400 CAD tax included, including $73 upgrade from 1G ram to 4G.
Good price?

I'd rather buy from a local store than purchase online, if not for reliability of purchase and continued support options.

A:Recommended specs for a word processing notebook?

What is the ratio between Canada and US when it comes to money? According to that link the system is on sale until 8/11 for $219.00.

The biggest issues for me would be that the Best Buy offer only has a) Windows 7 Starter installed; not even Home Premium, b) no need for 4 gigs if the operating system is only 32-bit because only a 64-bit OS will utilize 4 gigs and more RAM, c) the Intel Atom is slow.

So, IMO, it isn't worth $400 locally as is and again no need for 4 gigs if the OS is 32-bit. Shop around more and search for a Lenovo x120e system.

Hi everyone first post here Here s my issue - I just got a new PC for Christmas which is great However the computer was an HP slimline style and the motherboard lacked any PCI-e ports that would accept my Nvidia GT So I swapped out motherboards and put all the components in a new case and everything seemed to boot up fine However Restart graphics loading when wrong the motherboard doesn t have onboard graphics and booting the system up in safe mode shows the system crashing every time as the old onboard drivers from the HP motherboard tries to load Any suggestions on what to do The only two things I can think of are to load up the original HP motherboard with all the components again and Restart when loading wrong graphics boot it up then install the Nvidia drivers or wipe the hard drive and do a fresh Windows install Since I don t have a Win disc I would prefer to be able to just disable the old onboard if I can I know the card won t be installed in the HP motherboard so I m not sure that just installing the drivers for the PCI card would work I guess I could disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS of the HP board so maybe this will work Thanks in advance for your comments nbsp

Hi guys,

One of the solutions suggested was a Rolling Restart.

Now i have heard of this maybe 2-3 times before but never had to implement one or know enough about it to tell someone what it is or how to start it. Maybe it is something simple and know as another name i am unsure but i do know you can get the software to do this from

This is confusing, because generally you would hear the BIOS have a beep code error saying there is no Video output connected, I assume you do not have On-board video? If the video card is defective/Disconnected from the computer you should have a Beep code, and not get to the Windows Logon screen..

If it is getting that far but you are not getting video then it either seems it is a video card problem, or a PCI port problem..

My laptop seems to have a hardware issue, but I can't figure out what's going on.

A book fell smack on top of my laptop, and ever since the following happens. After a minute or 2 after starting, it will return a black screen and restart. This happens with two different internal harddrives that I swapped out, as well as with a recovery disk. One of the drives is a little faster in starting up than the other, and the system will actually boot. With the other drive, the system won't even get to booting up completely. I can't get into safe mode. I managed to start up completely once, and shut down successfully, but that didn't solve the problem.

So it doesn't seem to be a drive or software issue. What could be wrong here?

The CPU heatsink being partially knocked off is the first thing that springs to mind. After that, any one of a number of loose connections or dislocated hardware, up to and including a cracked motherboard, but I think motherboard is probably a worst case scenario. Does the LCD panel continue to work during the reboots..? Because I'm sort of curious as to how you missed that with the book.

A:Computer starts and restart in a loop

Follow these steps:

1. Remove all components from the motherboard except the CPU and a single stick of RAM. (If you do not have onboard VGA then you will have to keep the graphics card in place. Do not connect the HDD.)

2. Take the motherboard out of the case and place it on an anti-static surface.

3. Connect only the required wires from the PSU to the mobo such that the attached components receive power. (20+4 pin power connector, 4 pin CPU connector, etc.)

4. Ensure that the CPU heatsink is firmly locked in place.

5. Power on the PC and see if it POSTs and if you're able to get to BIOS.

Report back with the results.

It could be a temperature issue. You may want to replace the thermal paste on the CPU. Also, when you were trying to put the network card in you might have shorted something.

To me, it sounds like the Tempature Alarm that's set on the Motherboard. Open up your case when it's on and see if the Case Fans/CPU Fan is working properly, but, before you open up you computer make sure that it won't void your warranty, if it does, then you'll be needing to send it in to HP to get it fixed.

My SN78SH7 shuttle has a strange boot problem. When I power it up, it will "tick" and flash the drive access light for about 30 seconds without going to POST. Then it will restart by itself and go into POST normally. I replaced the CMOS battery and tried older BIOS revs, but that didn't help.

If I power cycle or restart from Windows, I don't have this problem. It only seems to occur if the Shuttle has been off for a few hours or more.

One of my friend had a similar problem once with his laptop. It turned out to be a battery fault. The best thing to do is get it replaced or the problem with persist. But keep in mind with new battery that whenever you new battery, pls allow to fully charge and Discharge of the battery. Otherwise the life of battery will be shorten if it is not fully utilized.

A:Freezing, restart problems

you may want to try disabling automatic restart on error and have the computer display a blue screen instead. This way, you can use the information from the blue screen (usually a driver listed) to diagnose the problem a little more efficiently. If it's the video driver, the "nv4_disp.dll" will be displayed near the fault information. Have you noticed any patterns at all with this freezing/restarting?

Yesterday, I recieved a new 80GB HDD (Hard Disk Drive) for my Dell Optiplex GX280 SD. As soon as I recieved it I shutdown my computer and replaced my 40GB HDD with it; however, once I turned on my PC I got a black screen with a message that said: "Disk Error Press any key to restart". Everytime I hit Eneter (or any other button) I get the same message right underneath it. In order to restart my computer I have to press Ctrl/Alt/Delete.

Why am I getting this message? Is the Hard Drive damaged? Should I return it? Or am I doing something wrong? I tried to install a clean version of Windows XP but can't because my computer doesn't boot up.

Any suggestions?

A:"Disk Error Press any key to restart"

Have you made sure that the computer is not trying to boot off the hard drive?
Check in the BIOS to make sure its set to booting off the CD.

I'm assuming that you haven't managed to install XP on it however, as it will be a blank disk and have nothing to read.

Hope this helps

I am not sure if this is a hardware or software issue but it has me puzzled, basically the computer will not reboot but halts part way into booting into windows, sometimes at the initial windows xp screen except the screen is very dark and faint, sometimes it just stops at a black screen. If I switch it off leave it for a bit and switch it back on again it will happily boot into windows and runs fine.
Thinking it may be a windows problem I reformatted the new hard drive and reloaded windows but still the same problem. I have checked the memory and hard drive and as far as I can tell everything appears to be OK.
This computer was originally given to me to replace the hard drive as the original one had failed although the pc would restart without a problem.
Hopefully one of you guys has some words of wisdom for me.

A:Computer restart failure

Since it came to you with this problem, then you have some clues...
This is not a Windows Error... and may be difficult to track down.
Clean the case... NOT with a Vacuum cleaner. NOT with compressed air. A rag with denatured alcohol and a can of dust off would be good tools for that.

Then, once clean, I would suspect the cables, the cable sockets, and the power supply.
Remove and reseat every cable. Replace the Ribbon cables if EIDE and not SATA
If SATA, they are infamous for having bad cables... replace them and do NOT go cheap... Good SATA cables cost money.
Replace the power supply to test. Does it work better with the different power supply? If so, replace.
Please let us know what happens.

I play world of warcraft, and sometimes when I'm playing in full screen mode, i accidentally hit the windows key, which stops the game because the start bar has been initiated. Every time it does that, it either takes forever to ''catch up'' (meaning my desktop takes forever to ''load'') or what usually happens is my computer will all the sudden quickly shut off, and restart immediately. I really don't know the cause of this, my computer is custom build, but the mobo and processor are really outdated. Everything else is fairly new. Could the processor be the problem?

A:Weird sudden restart

What are your system specs? What operating system are you running? Whilst you're playing, is everything running fine? You could always try not hitting the Windows key during gameplay lol.

I'm specificially thinking about Adobe products (mostly Adobe Acrobat). We will need to upgrade all of the computers on our network from version Acrobat 8 to version 9 pretty soon. Will there be a way to do that? Will there be a way to deploy updates when they come out? Or just one or the other? Is that pretty much up to the individual vendor? You could "have nothing wrong" but still have the incorrect driver for the video card or some other component.
When you go to the Device Manager, do you see any yellow or red flags?
If not, I would re-evaluate all the drivers.
It can also be the quality of the video graphics card does not match the needs of the games you are playing...
Others: too much or not enough thermal paste, Heatsink or cpu fan is not properly seated, one memory module is having trouble, or the power supply simply cannot deliver.
Also look at your event viewer to determine where the problem is occuring, and does it happen at the same spot... thus giving you a clue of where to start adjustments.

Yes, you can take that hard drive out of the 2k machine and read it just fine in Vista. What you can't do is take your OS drive from 2k and boot another machine with it, but I don't think that is what you were asking.

"Microsoft bus should be loaded into your system before installing realteck HD audio driver"

My mobo

Using onboard sound.

Googled, read, looked around, ran windows repair, help? pls? thanks guys

A:Microsoft bus should be loaded into your system.... "error"

after googleing, i found 2 potential solutions:

Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager. Look for any yellow bubbles next to the devices. If you see any, right click on it and click install driver. Select the option to find the drivers yourself, the next screen should allow you to browse and navigate to that folder. If the drivers still don't install then go to in IE and get any hardware updates you can get. The MS bus driver might be an update you need to get.Click to expand...

I installed WinXP once more, installed SP2 and then the Sound Driver.
Again it didnt work.

Then I remembered that i actually had changed a sound card setting in the bios. (No i did not diasble the soundcard )

The case i have installed this Mboard in has a front pannel.
And the Mboard has a front panel connector.

To connect the front pannel I had turned to the manual to get the rigtht pins set up.
The manual states on page 2-31 that:
"The default setting for this connector is legacy AC'97 audio, if you want to use the High Definition (Azalia) audio features, set the AC97 & Azalia Link A in the BIOS to Azalia."

Well this case does not use a high-definition audio front panel, so of course i had diasbled the Azalia Link i Bios.
(It was enabled in the Bios even when the manual said that the default setting was AC'97, ow well ... )

For "fun" i just tried to put it back to the setting it was when i installed the Mboard (Azalia), and then, bingo, the sound card worked in windows.Click to expand...

seems like a very rare problem.

Lots of valuable information in that file I'd like to access. I was able to create a new Outlook file in safe mode so I guess the program is OK.

It was suggested to me recently the cause may have been due to me having Microsoft Service Pack 1 at the time. I had not updated to Service Pak 2 (which I now believe has been updated to Service Pak 3). Has anyone had experience with this and, if so, do you think there's a chance that if I update my Service Pak that I might still have a chance of recovering the data I had in my original Outlook file?

A:Still unable to open Microsoft Outlook

I dont think just upgrading to service pack 3 would do any good.

May be you need some more luck there.

just got me worried when the list appeared with loads of them on,

That is not a normal thing imo.

In Bios;

Make sure your Advanced setting for Plug and Play OS is set to Yes.

Then, under Power, set the ACPI APIC Support to Disabled for now.

Boot and see what, if anything, changes.

I just bought a Razer Reclusa keyboard and the only problem I'm having is that it does not "power up" so to speak until after post. If I needed to get into the BIOS I could press [del] a million times and nothing would happen. Once windows starts up, it works fine. Is this just the way the keyboard is? I'd appreciate any info.

A:Microsoft Razer Reclusa Keyboard

Haven't looked up that keyboard, but I think I know what it is (the fix) anyway.

You need to get into your BIOS (with another keyboard, ideally PS/2 if you have the connection)
Then set Enable for USB Keyboard/Mouse support

I think that may be a bit of a mind teaser to do, but I'm sure you'll work it out

Hi i have a computer that is about 2 years old now and the problemhas only started in the last few months. The sound will go without warning. By go i mean just stop completely, Even if speakers are on full and the the sound option in the task bar is turned up, it will not play sound. It especialy happens when i am on dawn of war.

Dawn of war is a war hammer game. It has been out for a long time so i think my sound card is compatible but i cant remember how to get that up.

Any help would be great, i know i haven't given allot of information above but i cant think of anything else that might be useful. Thanks in advance

Does it happen if say your playing an MP3 or watching a film, if not then it may be the game causing the hiccup, have you tried uninstalling the game and then running defrag on the drive and the reinstalling it.

A:Random restart/bsod, especially when in a game.

Give your motherboard a visual inspection to check for signs of overheating. Look at the capacitors (upright cylinders) for signs of bulging or discolouration, especially near the CPU.
Look for pits on voltage regulators (small flat usually black blocks flat against the motherboard).
Dirt that has been blown into the memory slots.
If you find any sign of the first 2, your board should be replaced. Sorry.

Thank you for reading this as I've never encounter this before. I have two monitors; a Viewsonic (Max Resolution 1024 x 768) and a 23 inch Apple Cinema (Max Resolution 1920 x 1200). The apple had a little wierd issue for a while so I switched to the Viewsonic and set the resolution to the optimum setting, then somehow the Apple magically fixes itself so I went back and hook it up today, here is where the issue is. I set it to 1920 x 1200 under Properties, but it'd went back to 1024 x 768 after each restart, somehow it's not saving my settings at all. I went to Window Update to see if there's a driver that I need to install, but found nothing. Anyone got any ideas? By the way, I'm using a Quadro FX1100 if that's any help on solving this. Thank you.

A:Monitor went back to old setting after each restart

Just because a new driver didn't show up on Windows Update doesn't mean there isn't one. Go to Nvidia's website for the most recent driver for your card. It's not so much you necessarily need the newest driver but it might be that you are having a problem with your current driver (maybe corrupted or something). So as long as you are reinstalling your graphics driver, might as well get the most recent. Don't forget to go to Add and Remove Programs to uninstall the old driver first.

Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer

Open My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
Click Properties, and then click Tools.
Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed

? To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start. (tick)
? To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:

The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?Click to expand...

Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Wait until Chkdsk finishes Checking / Repairing any faults

A:Help with word document!

Retrieve in it word, then watch the box at the bottom of the screen as you file or save it as a .doc file, then review the ?xml info.

The Document Object Model (DOM) class is an in-memory representation of an XML document. The DOM allows you to programmatically read, manipulate, and modify an XML document. The XmlReader class also reads XML, however it provides non-cached, forward-only, read-only access. This means that there are no capabilities to edit the values of an attribute or content of an element, or the ability to insert and remove nodes with the XmlReader. Editing is the primary function of the DOM. It is the common and structured way that XML data is represented in memory, although the actual XML data is stored in a linear fashion when in a file or coming in from another object.
There is plenty of useful information on xml documents and file structure in the Microsoft knowledge base, or even with a Google search.

I just acquirred a Compaq/Hp laptop model nc8230, This was bought on Ebay in the USA and posted to me in the UK. This was bought with other laptops and all was fine except this one has a bios password. I think it is one of the newer type bios security because unplugging the bios battery for hours on end doesn't get rid of the power-on bios password.

As soon as you switch it on, you get a blue box with the legend
"Embedded Password Security" with the picture of a key. You get 3 tries to get it right before you have to power down, the power-on again to have another go. There has to be a backdoor password here, but I can't guess it. I am desperated to get this machine running .

Can anybody out there help?

My PC restarts for no reason, generally while playing games. I originally thought that the graphics card was causing it, but replacing with a new one has not cured the problem, nor has replacing the power supply (twice), processor fan, case extractor fan, memory. I did a hard drive reformat, but have found all is the same. Pc works fine apart from that, and it doesn't do it all the time, i think during primarily graphic applications, although once i was burning a cd, and went to go on the net and it did it then. It's been happening for around 4 months on and off. Could it be that my processor or mobo are on their way out? There is no warning, just a restart, with no messages when the display comes back up.
