Future PC Architecture

Q: Future PC Architecture

Now here is something you dont hear a lot of croncrete stuff about....
Searched for a forum on this subject but found none, so here you have it.
Some questions if you please:
-Should we be going wider and/or faster, faster?
-Should we be standardising more?
-Should we be focusing on getting the OS completely right? Should it be free?
-Is the future of computing best left entirely in the hands of Corporates or should there be some Governance?
-What is the best all round PC architecture?
-Why do they still cost so much?
-Why cant I add my new system to my old system and get the power of both?

Many more where that came from but lets open the discussion......

Preferred Solution: Future PC Architecture

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Future PC Architecture

1)The faster new technology is brought to the mainstream market, the faster prices on the "older" tech drops so it's a cycle that will benefit the consumer.

2)Standardization might help in some cases, but then that would mean either everyone has a gaming PC or they do not. That would be pretty limiting IMO.

3)Getting OSes right would not need to be the focus, since Service Packs/updates would eventually fix all the issues present in them. But yes, I do think they should be made cheaper. Free? I don't think that would help, since it would not give anyone incentive to develop something that's better and even if they do, they wouldn't be able to/willing to share it with the rest of the world.

4)Governments usually mess up things since in the end, they are able to get away with everything. Corporations depend on the end user's satisfaction to survive, so that would be a better thing. But a merging of the two ideas, such as greater governmental control over corporations regarding research wouldn't be such a bad idea.

5)This is debatable and bound to change, according to the first question, so it really isn't valid.

6)PC costs have reduced quite a lot since the late 1990s. So I don't think they cost too much.

7)Well that's because new tech always phases out old tech since companies need to sell the new tech more to earn more money to research more "new tech" and recover the cost/make a profit off of producing the recently released "new tech" that is going to become "old tech" in some years' time. They don't want you to use the old parts with the new ones since the new ones "perform better" and also get them heftier profits. And so the cycle continues...

The signs were written on the wall - the ARM architecture has the potential to expand way beyond smartphones and tablets. Last weeks ARM yearly developer conference shows the way.

Put it all together and ARM is clearly laying the groundwork to expand beyond mobile phones and challenge x86 in netbooks and laptops, desktops and servers. The introduction of versions of Windows 8 and Microsoft Office for ARM-based SoCs from Qualcomm, TI and Nvidia should also be a big boost for the ARM architecture.

A:The future of the ARM architecture

Hi there
As far as the ordinary user is concerned - it doesn't matter what the underlying technology is so long as the USER INTERFACE is simple and easy to use.

If the hardware reduces power consumption well so much the better.

In any case techniques such as virtualisation can ensure that whatever technology powers the servers the end user can still continue to use systems they are used to using.

The ARM type of processor of course has the ability for people to create very large banks of low powered servers cheaply as shown in your post.

A friend's computer was updated from Windows 7 Ultimate X86 to Windows 10 X86. I noticed that his system is X64 based architecture. Can he do a clean install/reinstall from X86 to X64 without losing his activation? If so, how?

Thank you in advance.

I've updated my BIOS (per the ATI site suggestion) but the Multimedia center "system check" still says my machine isn's MMX architecture?
is that possible?

its a p4 1700MHz

That alone should mean its MMX right? Isn't that standard since the p2 days?

The ATI site says to "check settings" but what settings?
poked around BIOS but didn't see anything....

This problem negates the vast majority of the video cards functionality...

Thanx in advance.

Hi, i have some problems about choosing the arquitechture.
I have:
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 Ghz
3 Gb RAM (DDR2)
Nvidie Geforce 7200 Gs (256 Mb DDR2)
256 Gb Hard Drive
And i want to install Windows Vista Ultimate and try Windows 7. I have read some thread about arquitechture but i cant solve the problem. I dont know what to install, if x64 or x86 or x32.

I dont use a lot of games (1 or 2), only i want to use my computer for internet, music, video, some programs like photoshop...

Can someone tell me how to fix the problem?

thanks for all!

PD: and, is there any problem if i install a program x86 in the folder "program files" instead of "program files(x86)"?

A:help with architecture

basically, there are two flavors. 32 bit and 64 bit. eventually everything will be 64 bit. there are many advantages, but right now, the main one is the amount of RAM it can address. if you want more than 4 Gigs of RAM, then you need 64 bit. the down side is, not every program is 64 bit compatible.

Is an I3 2120 CPU identical across the board with all those with the same model number? I ask because the specs for my HP6200Business Pro (i3 G630) list it as a compatible processor. When I install it, the PC won't even boot. HP's prices are extremely high, but is their i3 2120 somehow different than a stock 2120 which is priced substantially below their outrageous prices.

A:CPU architecture

The CPU's are made by Intel, they are all the same. Intel does not make custom processors for HP or other OEM's.

OEM's mark up prices to make greater profits on upgrades.

If you have a 64 bit system and 32 bit install media, you can contact your local Microsoft office or the manufacturer of your system and request 64bit media.

This would entail a complete reinstall of the system using the new media.

A:Cluster architecture! Which one to pick?

Hi, well cluster architecture (server based) is not what you are referring to, I assume you mean the allocation unit size cluster?

Why do you want to know, and what do you use your computer for? We have found that the default works for most users, there is pro's and con's to any changes. SSD's also make a difference.

If you are in the process of formatting, then the following will not be relevant.

To see what you have go to start search and type:- cmd right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste:-

fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo c: > 0 & notepad 0 press enter ( this assumes the drive is C:, if not change), you can post the notepad outcome here if you like.

Although this is a technical support forum, if anybody has studied these as part of their course, I could use a few clarifications.

I have been reading that many CPUs have an integrated program onto their chips, that provides a more complex instruction set (featuring intructions more complex than those that can be directly processed by the hardware) which is called microcode. I don't understand what's the use of that, though, besides compatibility issues. If the programmer needs more complex commands in his code, why wouldn't he code in a higher level language? Why overload the CPU with another software to execute even more commands? Can the direct "hard-wired" commands be accessed, when a CPU uses microcode?

Being that CPU are getting faster by the pico second what do you see the future will bring to the present motherboard architecture?
Do you see a totally new design or types of motherboards?
Do you see using different materials for electrical tracing?
Do you think we have maxed out the present motherboards speed?
Do you see home computers in closets & wireless remotes all over your house?

These are just a few burning questions I have...
What are your thoughts about what will happen in the next 5 or more years?

I think the ATX standard will be around for some time so I don't see new design or types of motherboards. But I do see where many of today's PC users will get rid of their computer and move solely to their smart phones.

Different materials? No. Tracings? Fiber is already being tested so maybe some boards may go light for the buses.

Maxed out speeds? No.

Computers in closets? Already there. Many new homes come pre-wired and use a server for streaming music, video, and data.

Hi All

I would like to know the requirements of dual channel architecture RAM:

Here is my understanding:

- Dual-Channel Architecture uses Banks consisting of pairs of RAM slots (2 slots per bank)
- Both Slots must contain a RAM DIMM (Stick) - eg. You cannot put a single RAM DIMM into a dual channel bank, both slots
must be filled...
- RAM DIMMs in a bank(matching pair) can have different speeds BUT the slower RAM speed will be chosen...
- RAM DIMMs in a bank(matching pair) can have different sizes/capacities(eg. 1x2GB and 1x1GB)
- RAM DIMMs in a bank(matching pair) MUST be of the same type - eg. DDR, DDR2, DDR3 etc

Am I correct on all my 'assumptions'?

Thank you

A:How does Dual-Channel RAM architecture work?

Some of your assumptions are true regardless of what type of chipset they are going into. But I think I can clarify.

A dual channel refers to two slots working as a bank. So in those two slots, you will want to have matching pairs (as you said). Matching pairs means the same memory...same type, brand, speed, capacity, etc. If you mix memory, you run the risk of it not functioning properly. Anytime you mix memory, you run that risk of instability.

Considering the fact it's been 8-10 years since memory has been available in pairs or kits, there's no reason anymore NOT to use matching pairs. You can mismatch across banks, though. For example, I have 4 memory sticks. They are identical in ever way, except I have 2x4 and then 2x2 for a total of 12 GB. All memory is the same brand, speed, timing, etc.

I m thinking about basically copying system: Multiple OS architecture basic what this fellow is doing here it s an AMD -core -based system But I want it to boot three operating systems Windows amp amp Ubuntu I would like to put the OSs on two Multiple OS system: basic architecture different drives Multiple OS system: basic architecture Maybe Windows and Ubuntu on one TB drive then Win on its own little GB SSD drive Is this possible Will Windows quot let quot me boot and to a single motherboard and will they update I m guessing that I would have to boot from the BIOS every time to choose from the Multiple OS system: basic architecture different drives What about running my Windows copy inside of Windows as a VM in this setup Is that possible I think Paragon has software which lets you image an OS and then boot that image as an OS in a VM I might run Chrome OS as a VM inside of one or several of these host OSs Of course I m open to suggestions as to how I might go about using a single nice and fast CPU motherboard to boot multiple operating systems The main thing is that I want to save some money and run Windows and Ubuntu on a single decent machine Thanks in advance Scott nbsp

A:Multiple OS system: basic architecture

The basic requirement of running multiple operating systems in a PC is to let each system residing in its own partition except of course running virtual machines which are just files of different guest OSes inside one partition of a hosr OS.

Windows 7 and 8 can be installed on the same hard drive but installed Win7 first as the boot loader of Win8 is newer and more capable. All Windows OSes use only one partition to do booting. If you install Win7 first it will be the hidden System Reserved partition.

In multi boot one use the primary OS's boot loader to fire up the default system and then use it to boot other system's boot loaders. This is called chain loading that every reputable boot loader must be able to perform. Both boot loaders from MS Windows(bootmgr) and Linux (Grub) can boot more than 100 OSes if you got them. In chain loading an OS can boot any operating system totally foreign to itself.

You can also use the Bios to change the disk order to boot multi OSes by installing them in different disks. However the Linux boot loader Grub can do this on-the-fly during the booting process.

Thus everything you said is possible but the easiest is to place them in one hard disk and use Grub as the main boot loader. Therefore the simplest way to achieve this is

Installed Win7 first but tell its installer to use only 1/3 of the unallocated space (this means you allow the installer format only 1/3 of the hard disk).
Installed Win8 next and put it in the second 1/3 of the hard disk.
Verify both are working happily first
Install Ubuntu last using the remaining 1/3 space.

Remember every installer, especially those from M$, is a greedy baster wanting to occupy the whole hard disk (to exclude other operating systems) if given half a chance. However every installer must be able to work on any minimum size and able to use a portion of the hard disk so letting an installer getting away to format the whole disk is always the user's own decision.

By default Ubuntu (or anu Linux) will arrange the triple boot automatically and Grub will replace bootmgr. Every Linux installer is written to examine every partition's boot sector and include that partition for booting if a boot loader is found. SInce MS Windows (from Dos to Win8) always has the boot loader inside the boot sector of the partition it resides therefore any Linux can include the MS Windows for booting after installation without the user lifting a finger. In exactly the same manner a Linux can multi boot the BSD and Solaris systems.

Grub is the most powerful boot loader in a PC because it can boot any installed operating system without even able to read its content. It needs only to be told the the device name of the partition and load the next required boot loader into memory before exiting. Thus when you specify Win7 to boot Grub will load only the bootmgr. It is the bootmgr that show you the choice of Win7 & 8 and fire up any of the chosen ones. Bootmgr can do the same as Grub but it takes 3 to 5 times more work.

If at any time you wish to restore bootmgr just read the help files on bootrec.exe and bootsect.exe. Both of which are inside the Win8 installation DVD with which you can restore the Win8 boot loader.

Remember no reputable OS or its boot loader will destroy other systems. The only way it happens is when you instruct an installer to "format" the hard disk or its partitions. Every boot loader can be restored by the user usually using jsut the installation CD or DVD.

The booting of multi OSes system affects only the first 512bytes (called the MBR) of the first boot disk. By selecting one boot loader as the dominant boot loader you only let it sit in the MBR. The original OSes in the own respective partitions are never touched! A boot loader in the MBR cannot be deleted. It is always overwritten by another boot loader using its own specific command (always available from the installation CD or DVD) which is written not to touch t... Read more

One of the things I first noticed in Windows is how now there are many quot hidden quot processes not shown in the normal tab of Task Manager and instead lumped into the quot Services quot tab yet still somehow connected or underneath the 'umbrella' of other processes I used to know all the processes that new process the Windows of 7 CSRSS.exe and Unravelling architecture run in Windows and which I could kill and which I couldn't After this Services tab I've kinda given up on that due to the sheer number I hope to help change that with this thread Finally deciding to create a whitelist in my head of these Services like I used to have Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7 for all Windows processes The first problem I'm noticing is that if a service is loaded under a critical process like CSRSS exe then there is no obvious way to kill it What is the way around this This seems like a huge security vulnerability because what if a virus installs to being under the 'umbrella' of CSRSS exe There is an anti-cheat program called PunkBuster that is needed to play games like Battlefield I noticed that PnkBstrA is part of the CSRSS exe I decided to reinstall this game tonight as well as Punkbuster and Origin both software related to this game only Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7 for me After uninstalling all software deleting all Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7 related folders from my HD and deleting all leftover registry keys related to them and parent companies I noticed PnkBstrA was somehow STILL running I hit Stop process nothing I hit Go To Process and it took me to CSRSS exe well darn I know from experience you can't kill CSRSS exe and expect Windows to keep running I'm amazed at this I did not think it was possible for anything to survive in Windows after uninstall file delete registry key delete Anyways I was already minutes into downloading the game files when I noticed this so I'm going to have to just hope its a quot clean quot re-installation and overlook this Mainly posting this out of curiosity and hoping to pick up a couple of pointers that might help me in the future manually remove advanced viruses that take advantage of this vulnerability TL DR How can you kill a non-windows service that has itself injected into an essential windows service other than via taskmgr since that doesn't always work correctly

A:Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7

I would think that the uninstallation simply wasn't as thorough as it should've been. Did you reboot after uninstalling everything? Was that when you found Punkbuster still running?

I'd simply search the entire system drive for any occurrences of "PnkBstrA" and see what it comes up with. There might yet be something left to uninstall separately.
If not, you could try deleting whichever file you find; if it won't let you because the file is in use, try something like Unlocker to schedule deletion on the next restart.

Make sure to create a system restore point first, just in case this somehow breaks csrss.exe badly enough to prevent Windows from starting up again.

Another thought: is there any PunkBuster-related service listed under Administrative Tools -> Services?

Thank you

A:understanding USB port, USB hub, Host controller architecture

It's normal for a laptop to have more USB port controllers than actual ports.

That fingerprint reader is soldered to an USB "port", and the webcams are usually soldered to an USB "port" as well. It's like they were USB devices connected to an USB port, just that the "port" they use is not soldered to the female USB plug, but directly soldered to the cable leading to that device.

Quite a few times laptops don't use all the USB ports they could, as the controllers and stuff to make the port work are physically located on the board's chipset (the component responsible of operating all ports on a motherboard, although more modern processors contain RAM and PCIe 3.0 controllers in them), and the chipset is made to fit models in all price ranges to be mass-produced in huge numbers to cut costs.
Which is why for most devices that don't need a particularly big bandwith they prefer to use USB controllers, instead of wasting much more valuable PCI express 2.0 or 3.0 lanes (3.0 usually reserved for graphics and 2.0 for wifi/bluetooth/3G modems on mini-PCIe cards and other laptop expansion card slots)

A few brave geeks did open their laptops (or netbooks) and soldered devices like say bluetooth/wifi dongles or 3G modems to some of such unused ports, and the devices got recognized and worked.

USB root hubs are the same thing as the external USB hubs, that is they share a single USB connection's bandwith over multiple USB controllers and thus ports (also USB power is shared so 500 mA per hub). Probably they do something else more technical as well as they are always there anyway, but the above is what matters.
If each port has its own hub, then each port has full USB 2 bandwith (and power, so 500 mA per port).

As for USB host controllers, each USB port has its own, regardless of the port being soldered to a female USB plug or not (again because this stuff is in the chipset). Sometimes there are some USB controller designs that decide to have more than a single controller, and have one for USB 1.1 devices (legacy) and one for USB 2.0 devices. These additional controllers for Win 7 have names like the ones you see (those are generic names for a catch-all driver).

The communication is USB device-USB controller-USB root hub-RAM-CPU, and is in packets as it's easier to find mistakes and correct them that way. There are a few different packets depending on what is the usage.

Intel chipset datasheets tell about it only a few words. No detailed specification, no protocol. And I couldn't find on http://developer.intel.com/ any service, to whom I can address my questions.

Thank you in advance.

Hiya

This guide provides information for architects and developers who are implementing caching mechanisms in their distributed .NET applications. It discusses the technologies available for caching, which technology should be used in the different application layers and types, how to load and manage data in a cache, and how to make custom classes cacheable. Code samples are included showing how to use some of the techniques

Hello friends,

I'm just doing some research, well, actually that's not correct. I'm trying to do research on the way that ports are controlled in windows XP. Here are my questions:

1. Is the firewall the only part of the operating system that controls ports?
2. How many ports are available for use on an XP system?
3. I was told somewhere that there are 65,000+ ports on any given XP machine, does this include printer/udp/tcp/software ports?
4. What different kind of ports are there in windows?
That's all for now I think!

Thanks,
Seth

If you do a lot of this work then you should indeed look at a Quadro card. Check the requirements or recommendations for each software package you are using, many will list what cards and what driver versions have been tested with their software.

Okay I re-installed someones Compaq Presario and here is the problem.

There is no sound what so ever and there was before.

I installed all windows updates and all the HP drivers and updates.

The problem is with the Audio Driver for HP, it says it can't install until the Universal Audio Architecture from Microsoft is installed.

This is a problem, because I found out that microsoft does not offer the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) as a public download.

Does anyone know where I can download the UAA driver?
Is there any free way of obtaining the UAA driver? or a free way of contacting microsoft to obtain the UAA that anyone knows about? I have checked both the HP website and Microsoft Website and have not found any solution yet. Any suggestions?

A:Future of WP

I want to say Microsoft will not killing Windows Phone. There are some things. 1) Universal app. That makes for developers more interested and easier to build just app what works on more devices. 2) Continuum feature - this is one of things what will could change phone hardware. What I mean, I believe Microsoft will release phone with non-ARM CPU. This will give chance to run and use more apps for business etc. 3) If Microsoft kill own system than potential domination is left for Android and iOS. I dunno how many Microsoft can lost on new patents etc.

Hi
I have been using XP for some years now and have got quite used to it. At my advanced age learning a new system is not likely to be easy, my wife uses Windows 7 and I find it quite unfriendly and I am reluctant to change to that or any other OS..
The questions I have are:-

!. Will Microsoft continue to authenticate my copies of XP if I do a reinstall?

2. If the answer to 1. is yes then how can I save the various update downloads to a CD so that I can return my computers to their present state following a reinstall. I already have a CD of SP3 but there have been lots of updates since.

The marketplace makes or breaks and the PC gaming platform is struggling according to some reports I've read Consoles are hardwired and are upgraded every three years or so but the PC keeps marching forward every gaming? PC What's future the for half year Gabe Newell was so upset with the quot walled in quot nature of Windows that Steam What's the future for PC gaming? is now porting games to Linux so all hope isn't lost Now there's talk of quot BGA quot or soldered-in CPU's for future motherboards I upgrade my PC as I can afford to but I feel like I'm driving on a highway that's steadily narrowing and choking In light of these rumblings would I be stupid to continue upgrading my PC by migrating to Intel's Haswel and a pair of Radeon 's What do you see in your crystal ball Thank you Windows Pro bit OS AMD Phenom II CPU Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard Megatrends BIOS FX chipset GB OCZ Reaper DDR system RAM Sound Blaster Recon D Fatal ty Champion sound card Dual Radeon HD GPU's in Crossfire CCC WHQL LG Blu-ray rewriter W PC Power amp Cooling PSU Verizon FIOS speedtest org ms ping Mbps download Mbps upload have had single digit pings on other days games on Steam

A:What's the future for PC gaming?

PC's are a major force in gaming. Who knows after the next-gen consoles are out. But at least the past couple of years, the best versions of the games usually were the PC ones.

Gabe Newell is just scared that the Steam marketplace will get eclipsed by the Windows Store which I think is silly to think that because there's tons to love for Steam. And people go where the best deals are and Steam brings it often enough. Newell/Valve wants their 30% cut of that software sale on Steam. If you buy the game in another marketplace, that's revenue lost. Everybody wants that 30% cut. Microsoft wants it. Steam wants it. Origin wants it. Ubisoft wants it. Apple wants it. Google wants it.

Right now, the various marketplaces are vying for exclusive titles and probably paying for that exclusivity. But like with anything, the money is on crossplatform titles so I bet you'll see the same titles across both Windows Store, Steam and other marketplaces. Microsoft is counting on the idea that you want your game achievements to be tallied with your Xbox achievements. Similarly, Steam is betting that you'll want to keep adding to your Steam achievements.

As gamers, it's better to focus on the games. There are no saints in business.

I'm not sure if this the right forum since it's been upgraded. I am thinking of doing a new build of the AMD FM2+ and here is what I think that I want and I'm looking for any suggestions about this build in it's entirety. This is what I've picked at part pickers so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/oldguy55/saved/44ya , I'm not really a gamer, but I do a lot of video editing, converting, bluray/dvd recording and music cds. also keep in mind that I will probably be adding more hard drives to this build as my movie library is increasing.

A:Near Future New Build

Ok, so since you do a lot of video editing, I would make numerous changes:
1) I would go for an Intel platform rather than an AMD platform since Intel CPUs are dominant when it comes to video editing.
2) If you arent going to overclock the CPU much, I would tone down the cooler to something like a Hyper 212 Evo.
3) I would tone down the RAM to about 1600MHz since 2133MHz doesnt make much of a difference when video editing (or even gaming).
4) I would replace the Digital Black2 HDD/SSD combo with a pure SSD.
5) I would replace the AMD GPU with something more hefty and nVidia based. I say this because nVidia drivers are usually more consistent and nVidia GPUs are generally better for video editing. BUT, if you are working with programs such as Adobe CC, then I would stick with an AMD GPU (more powerful than a 250X) since Adobe products make use of OpenGL for the most part and AMD is dominant at that.
6) Case is your choice. I personally recommend Corsair cases.
7) The PSU can be toned down to a 750W (Corsair HX 750) possibly, but I wouldnt go any lower since you are hoping to add more HDDs.
8) I would find a Bluray reader and writer all in one rather than having 2.
9) There is really no advantage to having Windows 7 Ultimate over Professional or even Home Premium. Ultimate just really allows you to install language packs (there are some other features that arent really important).
10) You dont need a Wifi adapter as long as the motherboard supports Wifi, but it matters on the board. We can determine that once we figure out the specifics.
11) Keyboard looks fine. I personally recommend the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 ($60) since you never have to replace the batteries and the keys are more tactile. But it is your choice.
12) That mouse is made for laptops, just so you are aware .

Sorry for the long rant, but I want to get you the best rig possible . I just need you to answer some questions first though, what programs do you use? How hardcore of a video editor are you (professional?)? Are the projects you work with in very high resolutions such as 4K? What is your price range for this machine? <--- this will help determine which CPU and GPU you can purchase (along with other parts).

I hope this helps.

What MB would allow me to use say P4 630 3.2 then allow me to go Dual core later? Prefer ASUS.looking for something with built in 1394 firewire.
Do PCI slots in a pci-ex MB work faster(better) than a pci only MB?

I am on a budget trying to do MB CPU ram for under $500

thanks

A:future proof MB

I am going to go in reverse order here.

PCI slots on a PCI express board will still be the same speed, no way around this, if the frequency or bandwidth were widened they would be PCI slots any more.

I would say stick with ASUS, but make damn sure it has an Intel chipset for an Intel CPU.

As far as a board that will let you upgrade to a dual core later, doubt it. Intel changes too many things with each revision of its CPUs, half the time a newer 775 won't work in an old 775 board and vice versa.

I wou;ld strongly reccommend looking into an AMD system. Any good 939 socket board will support a single or dual core CPU, and with the lead AMD has right now for performance especially with its dual core CPUs compared to Intel there is no reason not to go AMD.

Another great choice is to buy a socket 939 Mobo and later you will also have the option of going for a Dual core Opteron CPU, thats right a Workstation/ server CPU fits quite nicely into your 939 mobo.

Hi!

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. The current Tecra Z50 is extremely close to what I want in a notebook but the thing is, I currently don't really need it and I don't have the time to set it up. So I would buy one and have it lying around until late summer.

If I get one now and there's a new model out in summer, which I like even better, I would be very disappointed but on the other hand if I want to buy one in the summer and there's a new one with less connectors, a glossy screen with one of those extremely high resolutions or maybe without the pointing stick, it would be even worse!

So the question is: What can I expect from the Tecra Z50 in the future? I know that I probably won't get the information I need but I still had to post this.

Thanks!

Future of Tecra Z50?
From my experience, Toshiba releases different notebook series within short spaces of time.
In most cases this applies to the ?everyday home? models like Satellite models.

The product life cycle of notebooks belonging to business segment like for example Tecra or Portege series is much longer? so from my point of few the Tecra Z50 should be available in the next couple of month.

But even if new models would be released, I think that older models should be still provided by some online dealers?

This is my first post.
We are using MSN browser and have had some issues so we called Qwest. They told us that MSN was having issues with IE8 and that Microsoft was probably not going to continue to support it any longer and we should look at using our Outlook 2007 for our email.

We have already pre-ordered Windows 7 and I'm wondering what to do. Windows 7 comes with IE8 and if MSN isn't going to work with it should I change over to Outlook 2007 now? Does anyone know if MSN works with window 7 and what the future of MSN Explorer is?

I pay the 10$ a month for MSN Premium as well.

As soon as I installed windows 7 RTM I was through with it.

Have you never noticed now buggy MSN browser has always been. With many sites requiring a log-in it takes like aeons--when using firefox things move very quickly.

You can still use your @msn.com email account through Windows Live and hotmail and keep that @msn.com address.

The only thing one really got with Premium was the McAfee and a half-crippled web-root spyware scanner. AVG free is good and bit-defender is ok--I'm sure there are other low cost or practically free options.

Simply put MSN Premium is antiquated.

Winows Live and it suite>>mssgr, email etc are quite good---and, yes, outlook can be configured to work in tandem with windows live mail.

The only reason MS keeps the premium browser arond is to collect a portion of that 10$ monthly revenue from people that quite don't know better.

I know patch Tuesday is soon to be a thing of the past. I believe MS will be pushing updates as and when they become available. My question is, have they already started doing this? The only reason I ask is because this week I have noticed some updates showing up out of cycle. I think one was recommended and a few came up in optional. I installed them all with no side effects. Could it mean this coming Tuesday we will be spared the large amount of normal updates? Fingers crossed!

A:Future updates?

The out of cycle updates were probably because one of those updates makes it easier for those in charge of lots of computers (domain administrators) to block some upcoming updates related to Windows 10 upgrade and the GWX data collection process. My guess is, MS wanted this update available before Patch Tuesday.

I have always used Firefox since the day it came out as Phoenix. Today I am having a real hard time trying to figure out what in the heck they are doing. I was using Fx 33 Beta 3 and then MajotGeeks came out with Fx32 Beta 4. I installed it and then it updated automatically to a different build of Beta 4.
The Mozilla Firefox Download site still has Beta 3 as a download:

Today they have come out with Fx 32.0.2 but Fx 33 Beta 4 is nowhere to be found on a Mozilla Site except the FTP:\ site.

The version of Fx 33 Beta 4 was crashing so many times that I removed it and went back to using the Final release. No wonder Chrome is surpassing Firefox in usage.

If you go to Mozillazine and look at today's build and then click on the Prior Beta 3 Build, the link takes you to Fx 31 Beta 3. This is just nuts.

A:Mozilla and Their Future

Strangely enough I have just today returned to Firefox after several years with Chrome, I am past the Daily Build phase so am just interested in the final release. Wa suprised how much the basic look and feel was similar to Chrome, (shared history I suppose), but am impressed so far. The issue with chrome is that they appear to be depriciating a lot of older technology support, in that a few of my media sites were not working, all are working fine in FF.

If the content providers decide to hold out onto technologies like Flash and Silverlight, while Google reduces support we may see an upturn in market share. I'm all for advances in technology such as HTML5 but browsers have to support the older tech untill the vast majority of providers are fully conforming to the "New" standards

I was thinking about something.

USB 3.0 will have two separate wires for upload and download. Which is the reason it is so incredibly fast.

I wonder what kind of wonder this may do for Windows SpeedBoost. Intel says you can transfer a 27GB file in 70 seconds. Man, that's fast read/write.

I wonder if using a USB flash drive as RAM will be better than actual internal RAM chips.

A:Future of SpeedBoost

USB 3 is gonna 'rock', I personally cant wait for its launch
