Preferred Solution: Trouble getting father's computer online wirelessly! DNS look up failed!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Trouble getting father's computer online wirelessly! DNS look up failed!

It's not a browser issue - - it's the TCP settings

get a command prompt (btw which version of windows?)

enter IPCONFIG /ALL >myTCP.txt

on your follow-up, attach the file myTCP.txt

Hi, Having problems with my desktop, XP. have had connectivity in the past, stopped using it for a while, then when I tried to get on line, realized lost ability to connect to internet. Stopped using it for months as had laptop. Recently changed to Uverse, and wanted to connect desktop to new service. Desktop shows "wireless LAN PCI 802.11 b/g adaptor WN5301A" in device manager, but no icon/link in "network Connections" for viewing/connecting to wireless. Can anyone help me understand what's wrong/how to connect to wireless system? Fair disclosure, I can follow instructions but am not "techy"

Went to my parents for the holidays, and my father's computer is having problems. When you go to google, and submit a query, you go to a similar looking site:

http://85.255.120.26/feed/search.php?tpl=clean&q=

It looks like Google query, but is not, and today porn pop ups started coming up. Since he is in his 60's, I doubt he is surfing porn (Or maybe he is).

He has Norton's, but it is out of date, so I don't know if he got a virus or malware. He did go and buy Microsoft Live One Care?? and PC Doctor, but those did not fix the problem.

Any thoughts??

A:My father's computer

What you have is a hijack from a server in the Ukraine

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads Save the text that will open (report.txt) to your desktop.

Should you have problems connecting to the internet after the fix, follow these instrutions.

Please go to Start -> Control Panel Network Connections. Rightclick on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up) and leftclick on Properties. Doubleclick on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

In your next reply, please include a fresh Hijackthis log and (report.txt). Thanks

=========

Please download HijackThis to your desktop.. http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HJTInstall.exe

Alternate link
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...HJTInstall.exe

This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.

Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

A:Fixing My Father's Old Computer

Personally I would wipe the drive and install Ubuntu or Mint. How much RAM does the computer have and what CPU?

Or do 1-8 and see how the computer runs. As you know XP is no longer supported with security updates. I would not do any banking or internet purchases on the XP computer. There are know security holes that have not been patched by Microsoft.

Hi folks Would like a bit of advice from you folks who spend considerably more time than I in looking at PCs and running malware adware spyware checks Father's quite down bit nowadays is slowing a computer My father's computer is coming up on six years old nowadays It's running Windows XP Home Edition SP with a measly GB of RAM because that's all the mainboard will support I've done Father's computer is slowing down quite a bit nowadays my best to keep him safe by providing him with AVG Antivirus and later on Avast Antivirus when AVG started getting too invasive plus Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot Search and Destroy Unfortunately I live several states away from him so I can't overlook his day-to-day usage and periodically I hear that the PC is starting to run slowly or is slowing down I usually take a look when I visit and wind up re-running Spybot and Malwarebytes since he hasn't run or updated them in quite some time and fix whatever it is that I find that particular time This time it seems the PC is either reaching the end of its useful lifespan understandable with a -year old Win XP machine or he really has picked up something I can't detect using the general tools The PC really does seem exceedingly slow these days sometimes taking as long as seconds just to open up a simple Word document on the desktop What I've done to try and resolve run Defrag cleared temp files gotten rid of as many files and folders as he would allow me to killed just about everything from starting up automatically at boot via Msconfig all that's left is his video drivers the antivirus program a backup sync process and what appear to me to be standard Windows launch processes rerun Spybot S amp D and Malwarebytes and cleaned the few things each has found Spybot found four sets of relatively harmless tracking cookies Malwarebytes found one PUP object and removed it This has speeded things up a little bit but he still says it's a lot slower than it used to be I am wondering if anyone has the time to take a look at this PC and see what if anything can be turned up I will be glad to run any of the tools you folks mention and provide logfiles but having read the instructions I won't simply start by posting ComboFix or Hijackthis logs I'm also quite aware that this PC is a dinosaur by modern standards and he may just be better off upgrading to something with more horsepower He's reluctant to do that though so I'm trying this as a last ditch effort Any suggestions you folks have would be greatly appreciated Thanks Phil C

So I've gotten rid of a tiny issue on my father's computer and in the application manager of his Kaspersky I found an OpenCandy setup among his trusted files (ocsetuphlp.dll).  I've shifted the file down to the untrusted applications section for the moment but I can't seem to remove it; MWB doesn't recognize it as an issue, neither does jtr.  Any advice would be appreciated!

A:Trying to mop up Opencandy Issues On Father's Computer

You didn't mention AdwCleaner so see what it finds and removes.

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Scan button.
When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

After doing the above...do this:

Post the three lists mentioned below using CCleaner.
Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Startups. On that page you will see a list of Windows Startups and at the top tabs for each browser and Scheduled Tasks.
At the bottom right of that page you will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste the list of Windows Startups and Scheduled Tasks into your next
post. Please do that.

Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Uninstall. On that page you will see a list of programs installed on your computer and at the bottom right of that page you
will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste that list in your next post. Please do that.

A:Trouble connecting to the internet through my router wirelessly!

Did you start with a firmware upgrade of the router? How about disabling all encryption to get it working?

Let's see this for the machine.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Are you using WEP encryption? I ask because Vista seems to have difficulty working with it, and suggest you try unsecured and then WPA(2)-PSK to see if they make a difference.

A:Father In Laws Computer Locking / Freezing

Guys - I am at the father in laws home trying to help him out. Windows XP. Seems to be locking up. Click on the recycle bin for example - LOCKS. Open Outlook Express -- all the mail and folders appear - click on an individual (pick any one) email - locks. Pointer of the mouse just stops moving. Frozen.

Hard OFF, turn on -- all works well... for awhile.

Click here - click there --- locks!

Ran AVG - deleted the infected files. Medium tracking cookies. Nothing significant.

Ran Hijack this - LOG IS ABOVE ..................Sorry - this note should have run first!!!

Later - Jim

I remember coming to this site years ago and getting help for adware and malware problems. I tried my own thing on my dad's computer and there still seems to be something making pop-up ads. I remember the site helping users out. Could someone help me with this issue? When he tries going to his bank's website to do online banking it pops up all sorts of ads in Firefox. Very annoying! I ran Malwarebytes anti-malware and Windows defender and neither seemed to do the job.

Thank you very much!

A:My father's computer has a major adware issue

In Firefox, go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions.  Type Adblock Plus in the search box, then install it.  That works for me.

I recently installed a home network (wired), and put my and my son's computer on it. Now I have problems with Outlook Express. When I open OE, the Work Offline function is usually checked under "File". If I try to receive my mail, I get a box to connect to my Broadband account. This never works because I have Road Runner Cable Internet, which always connected automatically before. In order to send or receive mail, I have to jump through hoops. (I usually accomplish it eventually.) What do I set to make sure that OE is always working online when I open it?

A:Trouble working online

I don't have OE here to check myself on this but I recall there's a Synchronise sub-menu probably under the Tools menu. That should tell OE to operate under the same conditions as IE, which should be set to your LAN settings, with "never dial a connection" ticked.

I bought a brand new computer, and now I can't stay online. It's a Compaq S3100NX, AMD processor 2200+,1.8 GHz, with Windows XP. When I try to get online with Juno, the Juno homepage comes up just fine. But when I try to go to another website, I get a "page cannot be displayed message". Then I log off Juno and log back on to the internet, I get a "modem is already in use" message. Do you know what is causing this? Do I need to change the settings on my computer, or is this new computer a lemon?

The Nintendo DS can only use WEP security, so all other devices should reconnect using the WEP key.

A:Online Shopping Trouble

You could try calling the number but do not give them any personal information. If it is legit they should already have all the information. You should also contact the company where you placed your purchases and inquire about your orders.

PS2 online problem
MY setup: speedstream 5200, connected to a hub, and then run an ethernet cable to my PS2

Problem: takes 10-20 minutes to get past dnas authentication on: fight night, nfl street, and madden 2004... and wont connect to socom 2 or ncaa 2005 (on ncaa, it says dnas timed out)

What ive tried: direct connect didnt work, made sure all spyware was gone, called isp and told them what ports needed to be opened, tried using a shorter ethernet cable

Thnx

My husband recently bought an acer laptop with Windows 8 installed on it. He is constantly having problems with it connecting wirelessly. Right now it shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the center on top of where we would go to view network connections. Hi there,

I got an XP laptop running and wirelessly conected to our router.

Somehow my laptop is not able to connect with that router, even with the correct password. (before I was just running on the cable but I wanted to go in my room upstairs)

Now is there a way to connect to that XP laptop and get the internet from the XP laptop? I know VirtualRouter but that's only for Windows7. The XP laptop must stay wirelessly connected to the router since my mom does not want to go on cable either. And we don't want to buy a new router...

Any solutions?

Thx!

I've been doing some work on the computer and here is more info that hopefully will help with a solution. When I turn the wlan on and go to the Network and Discovery, I see my wireless network but it shows "Connected with limited access". I'm still unable to connect to the internet. However, when I use my Sprint card I am able to connect to the net. So it must be something to do with my wlan? When I go to Device Manager, it shows the wireless network connection is working correctly.

I love to play Yuri's Revenge online; but recently whenever i try to go online, it says comething about reinstalling the Shared Internet Components from the CD because they are invalid or missing. Can anyone tell me how to reinstall the Shared Internet Components? Thanks, themoocow.

A:C&C: Yuri's Revenge online trouble

1. Put in the CD for the game. When the auto-run comes up, cancel out of it.

2. Double click on the My Computer icon.

3. Right click on the Game CD, from the drop down menu select Explore.

4. Double click on the Setup.exe program. This will start the install program.

5. It will get to a point where the install will ask you what to install. Uncheck everything except for Westwood Shared Internet Components.
* Make sure you point the directory installation to the same directory that you installed the game to previously. If you didn't change this the first time, then don't change it.

6. Click next. The install should be quick as the online program is much smaller than any of the games.
* If asked to overwrite any programs, say yes.

7. Try connecting through the game again.

I have just reinstalled the game... haven't played online yet though

A:Trouble with Netflix and Hulu online

Try Chrome. You need Silverlight installed to watch in FireFox. Also you have to do it from the Desktop mode, not the Metro mode if you are going to watch movies inside the browser.

earlier today I found I had to restart my laptop, only to find upon re-booting that it wouldn't connect me to the net.

Using my Intel (R) ProSet wireless it said I was connected to Belkin (my home wireless network), but I had the 'limited or no connectivity' message in the bottom right.

Since, I have run a number of tests, including running the command prompt, and inputting ipconfig/all (results can be posted) as well as running a network diagnostic test (again results can be posted)

Now, I checked my sisters details (IP, default gateway etc) and manually entered these values. The 'limited connectivity' message went, but still no luck on the net.

From this, does anyone have any ideas? Should I copy and paste my ipconfig and network diagnostics output?

Thanks
Jay

Ok, Im a First timer for PC games and Exspeically Halo for PC, but anyways i got this game when i bought my PC from www.cyberpower.com (good
PCS) but the game i got with it is a bit confuseing because it tells me to sign in to windows live (first time encountering this site) i know its used for Xbox Live but i do not own one, but i made an account and the game loaded up and :::....
(steps on what it did and i did)

Step1: I Clicked the "live" option
Effect: it told me to choose your Profile, so i did

Step 2: I finally got through all the "join live" registration but yet it keeps asking me NOTE (im online during all this).
Effect: i waited for the windows live registration to pop up and then soon after i pulled the halo game screen back up and it went to full screen it said "sign in to LIVE" so i did and submitted, soon after it said "downloading profile (this could take a few minutes) and, it finally did it and it ASKED ME TO UPDATE HALO 2 or else it will sign me out and as i did it simply told me it was unable to update and told me to check my connection..... i got dial up but i doubt thats the problem..

so anyone could you please help and no smart comments please

its a common problem, updates not downloading when downloading an xbox live profile, mine does it, i just simply download the update from games for windows site here http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...718/Update.exe and install it, now when you sign on, it will just download your profile, but as you are on dial up, it will take a long time, it takes about 5 minutes on my 16MB connection. good luck

I started having a problem after upgrading Firefox to V.3.03
It was like putting me into a circular file with the login page
What I have done so far
(1) contacted ancestry and through their advice removed all ancestry cookies in case of a corrupted one
(2) Increased my cache to 300 MB
(3) Suspecting now a security problem I went to Norton 360 and using their advice made several different changes to and include shutting off all security again to no avail
(4) Went to IE and it works but would rather stay in Firefox if possible
If someone can advise me as to what to do it would be most appreciated Thank You. hrpja

Howdy all, Im having trouble with hosting an online server for an onlne tabletop program for playing Dungeons and Dragons online. I have troublshot it extensively with a few knowlegeable folk, and they assure me it is the natural windows XP firewall, now I want to configure TCP port 6774 for the XP firewall to be open, but I cant recall how? I think it must be possible, and the dev. of OpenRPG thinks if I can get that configured I should be allright? My Post Office ZYXEL router connects internet via ethernet cable but will not connect wirelessly. My computer says that ' the settings on the computer are not compatible with the network' . When I initially set up the router everything worked fine. The PO have reset everything and checked from their end and say all is fine. My smart tv will connect, so why my 2 computers will not? Thanks, Paul

A:Computer will not connect wirelessly, but ok with cable.

I wasn't aware the olde Post Office still did a dsl service - and provided routers? https://account.pobroadband.co.uk/S...is there trouble shooting section - but they don't appear to provide a manual?Do you know the ip address you would use to access the management/config areas for the router? Likely something like 192.168.x.y (where x and y can be anything from 0 - 9 inclusive - usually 0 or 1)and this link discusses a similar situation - and does involve Vista?http://social.technet.microsoft.com...(copy and paste the whole of that rather lengthy url into your browser)Hopefully the advice there will resolve the problem? You say it's ok for your smart tv, but not your two computers...That your smart tv is OK does tend to point to it being something on the computers - though why it would be for two computers at the same time??

Not sure if this is the correct sub-forum.
I just installed a newrouter and set up my new network. My Windows 7 desktop is connected to the routervia ethernet.

My Windows 7 desktop isconnected to the printer via USB. So, the drivers are already on the desktop computer.

When I was using my oldrouter, the desktop, laptops, phones were connected to the printer wirelessly, but I have nowchanged the SSID and Network security password.

Can I keep it that way?- USB connect the desktop to the printer, but have other devices connect to theprinter wirelessly?

How do I do that? ShouldI uninstall the network printer? Reinstall the drivers?

Thanks, cb

A:Trouble Removing "Guard Online" Virus

Peoplw who get affected by AV guard or open cloud security rogues will most likely get infected by 64 bit zaccess rootkit

MBAM finding lot of infections(4000) is another symptom of 64 bit zacccess rootkit.
Check for C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM64 (not the sysWOW64 folder)

if u have it then i can confirm that is a 64 bit zaccess rootkit.
With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team.

I have a turtle beach x32 headset. I know that you are supposed to use the chat adapter cable to connect it to your PC but I noticed that the transmitter uses 2.5/5ghz dual band wifi. And I know using programs such as connectify you can turn a laptop (Such as mine) into a router.

Is there a way I can get my computer to broadcast the wifi signal and have my headset pick it up and pair with it? Kinda like tricking it into thinking my computer is the transmitter.

A:Connect Turtle Beach and Computer wirelessly

No. The transmitter only sends the audio signal to your headset and uses proprietary software/hardware to do so. It may use a wifi radio to reduce interference during gaming, but the two can only mate to each other via the pairing button and a traditional wireless card is not setup to do the same thing.

I'm not sure why you would want to do this anyways. You wouldn't get chat functionality on your PC this way because the mic is setup to run through the Xbox controller to the console like a console headset. USB is only used for power and the wireless transmission is only used for audio.

Hi everybody at the Tech Support Guy Forums!

My name is USSR, and I'm having trouble connecting to the internet.

We have AT&T's U-Verse television and internet in our house. There is a cord plugged from the wall to this Netgear box, and the Netgear box is connected to the family computer. The computer connects to the internet just fine.

The computer in my bedroom can find my router wirelessly. Whenever I tell it to connect to my router, it says "Acquiring Network Address". It stays like that, and never connects.

Can anybody help me please?

A:Computer will not connect to internet through ethernet or wirelessly

Many laptops have Fn/hotkeys to turn on/off WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet... some, if the BIOS has been updated, will even default to leaving these facilities disabled. Failing that the only thing which comes to mind is that you have not got the drivers for these devices installed correctly.

This problem is happening on a Windows Vista laptop that was recently upgraded to Windows 7. Installation went without a hitch. However, every so often, browsers won't load pages. Windows 7 says that the computer has an internet connection but for some reason web pages will not load. The problem goes away after a restart.

We've tried flush dns, the winsock fix, and the problem persists. We haven't connected by ethernet but the laptop is connected to the internet primarily through wireless. Any suggestions would help. This happens at random, with no particular trigger. One minute, we can load web pages just fine, then the next second it won't. Extremely confused.

Here is the laptop:

Hello all

Please forgive my ignorance - I am as far removed from a computer expert as one can be.

My wife and I both have Windows 7, and we are both connected to a Homegroup.
A printer is connected to our router via a cable. My computer is also connected to the router via a cable. My wife's computer is connected to the Homegroup wirelessly.

I can print with no issue. My wife, however, can only print when my computer is on. As she prints much more than I do, is there any way of configuring her system to print without my computer being turned on each time? It would be impossible to connect her system to the router via a cable without swapping workstations, which she doesn't want to do.

Many thanks!

We have connect can?t wirelessly internet. to Desktop computer suddenly an Acer Aspire X -U desktop that runs Windows To our knowledge there has not been any power outages lightning strikes or viruses that would affect the computer I m not sure what other information is pertinent so please let me Desktop computer suddenly can?t connect wirelessly to internet. know if there is anything else that would clarify that problem About a week ago our computer no longer allowed us to go online Desktop computer suddenly can?t connect wirelessly to internet. through our wifi It does not work on Internet Explorer Chrome or Firefox It claimed that there were no network connections available and we could not see out wireless signal on the list of available networks Our laptop worked fine connecting to the internet using the wireless signal We searched online for suggestions yet most Desktop computer suddenly can?t connect wirelessly to internet. have not panned out We troubleshooted the issue yet it claimed that the a network cable is not properly plugged or may be broken The thing is we have always used that computer s wireless and has never had this issue before We called our internet service provider and they had us plug the computer into our ethernet cable and we could connect to the internet via that so they told us it was a problem with our computer most likely with our wireless network driver As per some suggestions we looked at the Network Connections and our Wireless Network Connection does not even show up there We only see the Local Area Connection We tried to update the driver software under the Device Manager yet that appeared to have no changes It just looks like the LAN wireless is nowhere listed on the device manager Please we have been trying to solve this for about a week and still have been hitting a brick wall Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

A:Desktop computer suddenly canít connect wirelessly to internet.

Hello, and Welcome

First open Device Manager and click on your PC at the top of the tree. Select Scan for Hardware Changes and see if the Wireless Adapter is detected under Network Adapters. Are there any yellow exclamation marks listed in Device Manager?

Type CMD in the search box Right click > Run as Administrator and type the following command

ipconfig /all   <enter>

Copy and past the results in your next post. Is your Wireless Adapter listed?

You may need to reset the wireless card. Open the case after removing the power. Touch bare metal of the case first and re-seat the wireless card. Here is your service manual.

A:Desktop computer can't connect to internet but laptop can wirelessly

Run Ipconfig /All on both the laptop and the desktop. I particular note down the values for the Default Gateway and DNS servers.

The default gateway should be the same as the IP address for your router, the DNS addresses should either point to your router (which will auto pick up your ISP's DNS server addresses) or direct to your ISP's DNS servers.

Hi, I've been having the NTDetect Failed error for two days, and got my hands on the XP installation disk today. I've configured the boot to run through CDROM, but each time I try to restart now, it shows the error

" Strike F1 To Retry Boot, F2 For Setup Utility "

I'm not too great with hardware so please be idiot friendly...... I am really very fed up with this machine..

A:NTdetect failed, trouble with XP disk

A quick guess would be you're having issues with your hard drive. That being said, normally when booting from the installation CD you should get a prompt to "HIT ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD"...if not, your drive may not be reading the disk, or your screen is coming on too late to see that prompt.

A:Trouble with a failed install and uninstall

Run the CCleaner to clean the star wars files which are in your computer after the unistall. Try to disable the autorun, explore the Cdrom, reinstall the game, and enable the autorun.

Hi and welcome to TSF. . .

One thing I'd like to look at first is a file contained within the Vista driver folder that may contain web site names/url's.

Go into Windows Explorer then Computer. Your looking for the following:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc (subfolders of each other)

Is there a file named hosts?

Upload it placing a .txt on the end and attach it to a post and I'll take a look. OK?

regards. . .

Hello!

Just recently I've had problems logging into online gaming clients for, eg. League of Legends and Gameranger. In both of these cases, I get an error saying something along the lines of "Couldn't connect to server".

These programs are allowed in my firewall, and I have never had this problem until this weekend, though it does not seem to disappear even after a reboot and reinstallation of the game clients. Tried running them as administrator too, to no avail.

What could be the problem here?

Thank you in advance.

A:TROUBLE logging into online gaming clients! Persistant problem

I would start with the obvious possible culprits. Are you behind a router? If so, you can try a direct connection to the modem to see if the router is causing issues. If the router is causing the issues, you may need to open ports or configure the router firewall. If you are not behind a router, you can try to disable the windows firewall just to see if you can connect to the server. If you are able to connect to the game server after disabling the windows firewall, then you may have to reconfigure the rules once you turn it back on ( do not leave it turned off ). Are you using your ISPs dns servers? If so, you could try giving Google DNS a try and report back to us if that helped. Is it possible that the game server is down for scheduled maintenance or perhaps your ISP is doing maintenance? If none of this helps there are other options to consider, but let's try all the obvious stuff first You can also try rebooting your router / modem too. Sometimes that works.

Can you ping the printer from the computer? Have you tried using the installation package? I know the installation software gives a lot of bloat, but it makes connection very easy.

A:Trouble with failed driver on Windows Update

Hi GhostRaider, welcome to the forums.

You might want to try going Here and try running Intel's 'Driver Update Utility' and see if that gets a better result than Windows Update.

   Note
I had the same issue when first install Windows 7 with my Intel 945 Express Chipset, the update would fail every single time

Unfortunately, Intel have not yet released a Windows 7 (32/64) driver for the 910GML or 915GM so Vista drivers in compatability mode may be your best bet of the 'Utility' does not work.

Hope this helps

Hey, I'm trying to upgrade from a 750Gb hard drive to a 500Gb Hybrid drive, and I'm running into a few difficulties. I'm using the free version of Macrium Reflect, every walk through I've read says to select the partition with the windows symbol, however I have two? Is this normal? I've been trying to clone both just in case. Shown below.

Secondly, the first partition clones just fine, but my C: drive won't and I keep getting the below message.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Do not start a new topic.Refrain from running self fixes as this will hinder the malware removal process. It may prove beneficial if you print of the following instructions or save them to notepad as I post them.Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.Windows 7 Advice:All applications I ask to be used will require to be run in Administrator mode. IE: Right click on and select Run as Administrator. The Operating System in use comes with a inbuilt utility called User Access Control(UAC) when prompted by this with anything I ask you to do carry out please select the option Allow.64bit Operating System Advice:Your log shows signs that this is a 64 bit machine. Most of the tools we use don't run on 64 bit machines, so the help I can offer is limited.HijackThis was not made to run on a 64 bit system like yours and it's scan results can not be relied upon. I'm going to need you to run two different scans for me in due course. Before we start:Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop. Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start. Security Application Check:Please download and save SecurityCheck.exe to your Desktop from one of the links below.Link 1Link 2Right-click SecurityCheck.exe and select Run as Administrator then follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txtPlease post the contents of that document in your next reply.Scan with OTL:Please download OTL and save it to your Desktop.Alternate downloads are here and here.Right-click on OTL.exe and select Run as Administrator to start OTL.Ensure Include 64bit Scans is selected.Under Output, ensure that Minimal Output is selected.Under Extra Registry section, select Use SafeList.Click the Scan All Users checkbox.Click on Run Scan at the top left hand corner. When done, two Notepad files will open. OTL.txt <-- Will be openedExtra.txt <-- Will be minimizedPlease post the contents of these 2 Notepad files in your next reply. When completed the above, please post back the following in the order asked for:How is you computer performing now, any further symptoms and or problems encountered?SecurityCheck Log.Both OTL logs. <-- Post them individually please, IE: one Log per post/reply.

A:Help with Father's PC

Hi TimFWelcome to BCPlease print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check):Click here and download Adaware SE update it Follow these directions to configure AdAware SE and update it but do not run a scan yet:AdAware TutorialDownload AboutBuster from HereAfter you download it unzip all files from the zip folder to a folder or your desktop.update it don't run it yetPrepare cwsserviceremove.reg for use:Download cwsserviceremove.zip.Unzip the contents of cwsserviceremove.zip (cwsserviceremove.reg) to your desktop. Please do not do anything with it yet.Boot into Safe Mode:Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check): C:\WINDOWS\ntyd.exe C:\WINDOWS\addnk32.exeRun a scan in HijackThis. A:Father's PC

Just a few notes:

I'm posting this after I was told that there might be a virus in the recovery section. Also, startup and shut-down are very slow (a few minutes at a time). It tends to lock up during the "movie" sections of games or even when doing other things. Sometimes this is fixable with a ctrl-alt-del, and other times you have to restart it completely.

It's mostly malware that I'm worried about at this stage that might've hidden something that Norton hasn't yet found or that bypassed it as a "safe" program. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello fengfamily and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.Step #1Download Cwshredder.exe and save it to a folder of its own. Start the program and click on the Check for Update button. If an update is available then download and install it. Close the program (do not run it yet).Download AboutBuster.zip and unzip it to its own directory. Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.Now physically disconnect from the internet (unplug the telephone or broadband cable from the computer).Step #2We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:Click Start.Open My Computer.Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.Select the View tab.Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.Click Yes to confirm.Click OK.Step #3Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\danje.dll/sp.html#37049R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\danje.dll/sp.html#37049R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blankR3 - Default URLSearchHook is missingO2 - BHO: (no name) - {10906011-F56B-D0FC-A5B8-30DA3C759364} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\applq32.dll (file missing)O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tEOmBe8dl] C:\WINDOWS\rqrmuc.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mnuh] C:\WINDOWS\mnuh.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tEOm?"????ig?Y] C:\WINDOWS\rqrmuc.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [???u0?4C }??z?[8C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\rqrmuc.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [???u0?4C }??z?ig?C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\rqrmuc.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [[email protected]???]??"????iC:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\rqrmuc.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [???u0???]??"????ig?C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\rqrmuc.exeO4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exeO4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exeO13 - WWW. hi there,

my dad has an 8-year-old PC that is slower than a snail and I'm trying to pick some parts for a custom one for him. he's very frustrated with it. I don't want the new one to have any hiccups. all he really does is browse the web, watch movies both online and offline, and transfer media from his camera.

this is what I put together so far.

would this be okay for that or is there a cheaper/better route that I can take in order to make him a fast PC for his basic needs?

thank you.

A:PC for my father. Is this alright?

No one can give advice unless we have some idea what he is going to use it for

checkin to see if anyone responded----------------------Hello shadnottus,While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, you wouldn't want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it, would you?We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.Thank you for understanding.Orange Blossom ~ forum moderator
