3. If its backlit its good. Not very important.
4. Procesor can be AMD or i5.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The HP 15-F009WM doesn't have an optical drive but has a AMD Radeon Graphics card already installed with virtualization technology and it's going for real cheap at laptop-pcs-tablets.com. I think the price is at $229 for an open box. The HP-15039WM includes an optical drive but may not come with the Radeon Graphics card, however it has a turbo processing boost just for gaming of up to 2.41 GHZ and it is priced around $319 at the same site. The HP touchscreen is the latest model with the same processing speed and it around $380. You can also get the same features with the ASUS for around $50 less however the brand name of Asus is a little less well known than HP but it's probably like the difference between buying name brand and no name brand. Asus has some good quality ones for a low price.

I was wondering if there's good laptop out there for a reasonable price.
My budget would be around $500-800.

Please help me Thanks
(and I've heard that lenovo laptops are good for its price, wondering if there are any good laptops from them too)

A:Is my laptop going to be any good?

Very few laptops are "good to game on".

Gaming is very CPU intensive, and with a laptop the excessive heat generated cannot be dissipated as it can in a desktop.

Laptops then have to speed-step down to keep from overheating, so performance suffers.

Also, you quote the minim requirements for the game in terms of a single core processor. If the game is not written to optimise a dual core processor (likely for the second one?) then you are running it on a 2.0 GHz CPU for all intents.

- Of course browsing the web for forums/email, videos/movies and such

A:Would this be a good laptop?

Any gaming laptop (like the one you listed) will be adequate for what you want to do. the 16GB of RAM will come in handy for Photoshop, but the small screen might make Photoshop a bit difficult to use.

A:A good laptop?

My experience: Acer laptops are a good filler for a utility situation--as long as you never need tech support. In-warranty tech support is bad at best to unresponsive at worst.

Just my experience with two desktop systems and I don't see any reason it would be different with a laptop.

If you are considering a newer Windows OS for it, first see if there are compatible drivers available for the chipset, LAN, sound, video, etc. or you may never get it to work properly.

Can anyone offer me any tips on looking for a good but also affordable laptop? I can't afford to go over £500.

I'm so muddled up because I see mixed reviews for every company. Every company gets good reviews and every company gets bad ones too. What sorts of clues should I look for to determine if a laptop make really is worthwhile or if it's a risk not worth taking? I know good technical support is something I would really value, but again I don't know how to tell which companies are good for it and which aren't. There's good and bad reviews for every single one.

I feel overwhelmed by the choices and having bought bad computers before, I feel very reluctant to part with my money unless I am at least somewhat confident in what I'm buying.

Hey guys, I have a Toshiba satellite u205-s5057, and I decided to use it exclusively, instead of my desktop which I have used for 6 years. I have it set up so that I have my desktop monitor as the main screen, and a wireless mouse and keyboard. Only problem I have is, I plugged in my altec lansing 2.1 speakers that I have been happily playing on my desktop for 5 years and it sounds so terrible on my laptop. Is the audio card really that bad on laptops? And if so, what would your solution to my problem be? Get new speakers? Get a new sound card(preferably external so I do not have to take my laptop in to get it installed)? I listen to alot of music and would like to have great sound coming out of my laptop where i store my 4000+ songs. Please any advice and links would be greatly appreciated.

I want to perform a fresh install for a refurbished laptop; but I heard that the product keys for a refurbished computer may not be "compatible" with the retail Windows 8 used for reinstallation via the application from the windows website. Is this true? If I go ahead with a fresh install, should I use a keyfinder program beforehand? Even so, would it work?

Also, does Windows 8 offer phone verification like windows 7 did?

Hi there,

You should check out the Sony Vaio EB. It has a built-in numeric pad and an edge-to-edge isolated keyboard. It is also affordable at $799 and has a fast processor (2.13 GHz Intel Core i3-330M). You can check out the full specs of this laptop using a tool called PC Scout.

i'm just wondering, if the laptop named above: HP DV6-3045sa is good?
i will probably use the laptop for work, movies, music and games

i just want to know if the laptop is good enough to run games like call of duty modern warfare 2 or black ops?

the laptop technology is never mentioned in the system requirements of the game :/

A:Is this a good gaming laptop?

It is good, the SLi isn't very necessary. You could probably bump the processor up to a better one as well, keep it as a core 2 duo but aim for 2.0 - 2.5 Ghz or higher. Remember, when you are buying from a brand name, you are also paying for that name and not just the parts. Although it is a laptop so it would be much harder to build it yourself and find parts...

All in all its is a good laptop for gaming, depending on what games you play of course.

If you have the option get one 8800 GT instead of the SLi 8700M's

Hello,

I just bought an Asus K Series laptop, processor being Intel Core i7-4500U, base speed 1.80 Ghz with turbo boost up to 3.0 Ghz. Its GPU is Geforce GT 740M. The RAM is 4gb.

So is this laptop suitable for gaming with smooth gameplay and performance, at least medium to high settings with nice FPS?

My main games are Counter-Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends and Dota 2. Maybe Resident Evil 6 and Saints Row IV too.

A:Is my laptop good for gaming?

Hi,

Hardware mentioned seems to be impressive. Still if you want you can go to Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements and check if your system will be able to run the game smoothly or not. This site will run a small scan on your hardware and lets you know if the system is capable to run that specific game or not.

Hi. I don't know if this is really something that can be labelled "general support", but I am looking for a laptop with around 4-6 hours of battery, and one that is thin, not bulky (the laptop, not the battery). Does anyone know of good brands to look for that have good batteries, and if they're cheap? Maybe around the $300-600 range? What brands should I stay away from? I would just need a laptop that can run 1080p youtube streams and everyday use. Nothing big like video editing, gaming or movies. Just streaming and internet use with a good battery.

I bought this laptop refurbished last winter:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230103

I presume the original problem was a bad monitor, because the same issue has reoccurred. When I turn on my laptop, even during the POST process and bootup, the monitor's display is extremely fuzzy and blurry. The colors are way off, as well, and this issue persists for as long as the laptop is on.

I can kind of browse the Internet if I squint my eyes and read past the blurriness, but there is no way I can game on this laptop, which is the main reason I had originally bought it for.

Since I bought this refurbished I only had a 90 warranty, which was through Best Buy.

Is there any way I can replace the monitor on this laptop, and would it be worth doing so?

I just purchased a custom to order HP dv9000. I ordered it with Windows Ultimate. Once I got it running, I immediatly uninstalled most of the 'junk", including NIS (too much of a hog). I then tried to install the Vista driver for my bluetooth mouse, and got an error telling me that this driver requires Microsoft Vista!! (??)

I then tried to install Microsoft Live OneCare, and that too bombed, telling me I needed either Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista to install this application!

I was stumped.

After a bit of an investigation, I found I had the 64-bit version of Vista on this laptop! I then found the 64 bit Logitech driver, and downloaded AVG AVPro.

Am I in for a nightmare with this 64 bit version of Vista, or will I be OK as time goes on. I have Intel Core 2 T2700 2GHz CPU and 2Gb or RAM.

Depends upon your applications.  If you need a small, lightweight system and video performance isn't important, that will work fine.
Be sure the seller guarantees the system has no passwords on it - or you will be in for trouble.

After years of sharing the malfunctioning family computer, I am finally looking into buying my own computer, preferably a laptop. Don't buy a laptop unless it's a MUST for your work or lifestyle or unless your going to shell out $$$ for a Macbook Pro. 90% of PC laptops can't be upgraded except for RAM and HDD, service is expensive, they are a pain to clean internally and cooling is always an issue. Save yourself the hassle and build a desktop. It will be cheaper in the long run, you will enjoy games more, it will be a much faster GPU and CPU and you don't have to buy a new computer in 4-5 years since you can just upgrade certain parts and get $ back by selling your old quality parts. Just a thought to put in your head.

What does your RAM look like? You should atleast have a 2GB of it. I have four and I havent run into any problems. Only thing i suggest you look into is having 32 bit vista. I run on a 64 bit like you want and I run into problems with installing games using this version of Vista. Although 64Bit may be better, there seems to be less bugs with the 32

Decent Battery Life
Obviously not anything too crazy expensive.

U can control ur system peripherals and components and even ur OS so that it meets all ur needs!! But of course as u add components, u'll get charged more so be careful not to overdo it don't worry though because most of the laptops allready come with everything u need! OK mate bye. Just a random Q: where do u live?- what country? because if u live outside the uk it'll be easier to visit www.dell.com

while that computer would probably run most mainstream games fine, it may struggle with the more CPU and GPU intensive titles and i personally wouldn't dish out a grand on an HP. if that's your budget you will be happier with a sony vaio or toshiba satellite desktop replacement. the pavillion seems decent but i don't typically approve of HP's build quality. of course, i will always opt for a mid to high end desktop for gaming anyway, since they are more expandable and robust, but it's up to you.

Hi,

Laptop HD failed the other day, so i looked online.. found a 2.5" seagate 40gig IDE drive that was new. It was also advertised as a laptop HD.

When i received the drive and opened it, had in bold letter.
"NOT SUITABLE FOR LAPTOP COMPUTER USE"

I tried to install it and see what would happen.

It detected the drive, formatted the drive, all ok
But wouldnt install a copy of WIN XP.

I looked online and found the seagate LD25.5 drive is made for game consoles and DVR players.

Can anyone tell me the difference between this drive and a normal drive.

Thanks Matt

A:Good laptop replacement batteries??

Good Morning vookster82, have you considered carefully opening the battery and chasing suitable replacement cells.
Alternatively, do you have a battery repacking industry there.
It is a thriving industry here, often using better quality replacement cells than the original.

But you do need to keep track of costs, sometimes a repack can be more expensive than a factory replacement.

I have taken cells out of a battery operated drill pack but it is a bit of a gamble breaking these things open as to whether they will be suitable for use.
I came off second best with a cell-phone battery recently.

Some batteries actually need a matching routine to allow them to be re-accepted by the laptop for the charging schedule and life re-instatement. (Intelligent batteries)
Batteries aren't just batteries anymore!

A:My Work laptop was stolen(this is so not good)

Welcome Bigred469 to the windows 7 forums.

Password protecting your laptop is a false warm fuzzy as anyone can take the disk out and read it with another computer in the brute force mode. also there are many bootable cd's that will tell you all the passwords.

In other words, there is no real way to protect your laptop outside of file encryption. Also a bios strong password helps a bit but still can be broken.

There is a company that sells a product called phone home, I believe that would let you know where it was and do some things to it from remote.

If it was an apple macbook then apple has products that will do what you want.

In other words, NO, you can't do a remote wipe of your data or whatever without an installed product.

Microsoft's update is not designed to do what you want.

Sorry.

Could anyone recommend me a Windows laptop that can watch Videos can run Windows and does not have loud fan noise like the MacBook and MacBook Pro Basically I want a laptop that can run a lot of applications at the same time without lagging and without tormenting your ears with the fan noise And is cheap maybe at most And also does not get out of order easily when I drop it accidentally and has relatively cheap warranty policy I would be willing to buy used or refurbished computers if it fits my criteria even if it's originally Windows XP computer but on which you can install Windows MacBook Pro warranty was like for years which is kind of expensive in my opinion BTW if you didn't buy a warranty at the end of me a Recommend good cheap laptop the first year of free warranty can you buy warranty later So I wanted a computer Recommend me a good cheap laptop with warranty of maybe at most per years I guess I could run bootcamp or Parallels on the Windows if I really need Mac but so far I don't think I discovered anything definitely better in a Mac except maybe the display So I guess if I wanna use something like Final Cut Pro Is there a Windows version that is just as good maybe I could just run Parallels which is why I need a computer with good speed and size to tackle many apps at the same time Anyway I don't like running Parallels on Mac because I can't handle the fan sound that goes along with it and there's lots of Windows-only apps that I couldn't run on Mac and was deprived of computer experience for years because of it And when I run Parallels it's too slow and loud However if there is no laptop or computer for that can do all the things i mentioned then just recommend me whatever

Hi, and welcome to seven forums.

It is very hard to get Mac OS X running on a Windows machine. VMware and all that stuff is for people with a lot of computer experience.

In your search of a good laptop; go have a look at the Compaq brand by HP. They are quite cheap, but very reliable.

And for your Final Cut Pro alternative: Avid | Home --> Pinnacle or Sony Vegas Pro.

I'm trying to get a laptop at a very cheap price and for £499 I thought this
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/935200

advent 7082
was a really good deal.
512MB
128MB graphics seperate
DVD writer
wireless
etc, etc

My son wants a PC so does my wife and her mother
so I'm thinking of getting three of these

what do you think - remember PRICE is a problem and this is the max budget really

A:laptop advent 7082 - any good

Though I've never heard of the Advent line, let me advise you that those widescreen (WXGA) LCDs run at some rather bizarre native resolutions. IMO, they're better suited for viewing multimedia (DVD movies, for example), than they are for serious desktop work. However, if the users are not going to be using the laptop for extended periods, that shouldn't be an issue. One obvious benefit is that they should be able to enjoy movie watching (especially wide-screen format DVDs) without a lot of aggravation. Don't expect great (or even good) sound quality from the "tinny" little speakers installed in most laptops; they're not much better than the speakers used in desktop systems to alert you to problems at bootup. Tin-cans and string come to mind...

I'm not aware of the AMD Sempron CPU being available in a low-power laptop version, though the Sempron itself tends to run somewhat cooler than the previous generation CPUs (though not more than a few degrees cooler overall). Heat can be a nasty issue to deal with, so I urge you to do more research on that particular problem. Hot laptops often require (loud) fans to cool them, and that fan noise can be irritating and distracting, to say the least.

Of course, that system has WinXP pre-installed, so odds are good that you WON'T get an actual WinXP CD-ROM with your purchase. You MIGHT get a recovery CD, though it's more likely that the WinXP setup files are stored on a hidden partition on the harddrive, which reduces the actual space somewhere below the advertised 40GB. Also, the HDD itself is probably a 4200 RPM model, rather than one of the 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM models. For the price, that seems an acceptable trade-off...

Does the DVD burner include ALL of the software required for both movie viewing and DVD / CD burning? I've heard from friends in Europe that some laptops are sold with "crippleware"; you have to pay an additional fee ($100 to L100) in order to download the files which activate all of the necessary features, or else buy a different software suite to do the job. Either way, you need to know what the REAL additional costs of ownership are going to be BEFORE you make the purchase. Companies that take your money do NOT give it back just because you don't like the way they do business, so a word to the wise...

Check this URL for a list of the features:

http://tinyurl.com/bozxx

As you can see, the inclusion of the V.90 modem (why not a V.92 modem?) and wireless networking are nice features, but the short CLAIMED battery life has me concerned. If the battery won't last longer than 1.5 hours under OPTIMAL conditions, you might end up investing in an extra battery for each unit (which would probably cost at least $100 US EACH, possibly up to L100 each); you should research the cost of replacement batteries for that Advent system before you make a final decision. You'd have to buy an external USB floppy drive, if that is a concern, though most people don't consider them important enough to let the lack of an internal floppy drive be a deal-breaker.

Another thing to consider is that people tend to drop and abuse their first laptop, which is how they learn what NOT to do with it. I always advise people to buy a REALLY cheap / used laptop if they've never owned one previously. That way, they won't damage or ruin something they've heavily invested in as they learn how to properly care for it. I've seen laptops ready for the scrap heap well before the warranty has expired; having a warranty means nothing when the user damages the system through carelessness or neglect, because the USER pays the costs for those repairs.

Check into the warranty; is the backlight covered? If not, I'd look for a system with a better warranty. What is the policy on dead pixels? What about scratches on the LCD screen? What is the labor rate if the work you need done is NOT covered by the warran... Read more

I use my laptop mainly for playing games.I play games like crysis2,BF3,assassin's creed.I play for 4-5 hours daily. While playing I plug my lap to AC.The battery gets fully charged within 2 hours & for rest of time it's been plugged to AC.Also it gets heated up while playing games. So I wanted to know that:
1.Should I remove battery & plug my laptop to AC while playing games?
2.Will everyday removing & inserting of battery affect my laptop or battery?
3.If suddenly power fails then it's sure that laptop will shutdown. Will it affect laptop?
4.Is there any suggestions for a low budget cooling pad for laptop(HP Pavilion dv6-7012tx)?

A:Is running laptop in AC supply good?

How i understand it. (i could be wrong) The types of battery's that are used now it doesn't effect the the battery to leave it plugged in all the time.

If you remove the battery it wouldn't have any effect either just the wear from taking it in and out.

If the the power fails and the Laptop is plugged into A/C power without the battery the laptop will shutdown. This can cause data corruption.

My suggestion is just to leave the battery in while leaving it plugged in.

How good are the notebook ati video cards, do they work, will they last, is it better than nvidia ....

A:How Good Are Laptop ATI Video Cards

You can have a look at this website which has a bunch of benchmarks...
Notebookcheck: Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List

There is also a comparison listing the tiers and what each graphic card can handle at this link...
Notebookcheck: Comparison of Graphic Cards

Lastly, there is a chart with how well each mobile graphic card performs in certain games...
Notebookcheck: Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards

You can decide whether NVIDIA or ATI is better.
I think generally Intel + NVIDIA laptops have better processors but worse graphic cards and AMD + ATI laptops are the opposite. I don't think there will ever be an Intel + ATI laptop.

Heyo so I'd like help on finding a good gaming laptop with good specs, I'd do this myself but I'm only familiar with Pc graphics card and not laptop graphics cards. This laptop is what I'm gona be using throughout college (2 Years) and university (3-4) so i'll be wanting a laptop that is lightweight and has a long lasting battery life and can also play games/do work fast. From research I've seen the Razer blade stealth seems like a good option but the graphics card is very poor, and I will be playing games such as Dota 2, League of Legends and CSGO which are decently easy to run but I do also want it to be able to run most new games. My current budget is ?1000 maximum, any suggestions are much appreciated.

This is confusing to me. Anytime I've been on a laptop in my apt. I have no problem getting a good or very good signal on it, yet using the same Belkin USB device on my tower in the same exact place, low or less than good connection.
The router is on the first floor, I'm on the 2nd floor & a few walls are in between . Why?
I'm thinking of having the router moved, a booster used or relocationg the router.
I'm currently on DSL . Wi-fi is just an option.TIA

A:Laptop Wi-Fi good connection but not tower?

The router should be on the second floor above most of the equipment that it is actually connected to it for the best possible signal strength. I'd guess you're having a driver issue between the different computers, but you're probably gonna tell me that both computers are Windows 7 and have the same driver or something like that.

Hello.

I need a new 2,5" hard drive for my laptop, because my 640gb is not enough for me at the moment and i'm starting to think that mine's getting more problematic as time goes by...

So I was thinking of getting this one, because I can get it at an accessible price and i've heard very good things about it (i think the only bad things i heard about it is that, in this day and age, SSD's completely overshadow it). It's got 1TB, 7200RPM and a 32MB Cache, sounds great to me. Since I can't afford a SSD+HDD combo, I wanted you guys to recommend me a good HDD for my laptop that's both fast and big, or tell me if that one is worth getting.

I'd like anything with 1tb or more, and my budget is about 110$ but the lower the price the better =P

Thank you for your time.

i think is might be a Blaster Virus but im not 100% sure. i know the easiest thing would be to just wipe it clean and start over but i dont have an XP disc.

any ideas on what to do??

Hi there, tzby72, and welcome to TSG.

I was having a read-up on the Blaster worm, and your problem doesn't sound like it.

I can't say that I know what would be causing your first two problems (but from first impressions would suggest a problem with Windows Explorer), but for the other two (sound and network) I would suggest going to the IBM/Lenovo website and downloading and reinstalling your drivers. This is the easiest fix to try to begin with.

Let us know how this goes, and I wish you the best over there.

Hi WebbyLight0.

I've only checked GTA V a.t.m.
You wouldn't be able to play it, because you need at least a Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz and GeForce 9800 GT.
Please note, the CPU and GPU are desktop variants, but it should give you an indication to what the minimum requirements are.

4GB of RAM is enough if you play at the minimum settings.

What have you guys found Should I be using a different security product Especially with a server

A:Vipre: used on my laptop and server, but is it actually good?

Hi -
Vipre was always (in my opinion) among the better Antivirus programs, but I find from all of the latest "reviews" that it seems to have slipped slightly from its highest rankings. The "reviewers" still list it in the top dozen or so, but "reviewers" come and go.

Kaspersky is in the top few now (as always), and cost-wise may be a better option, even though you purchase a 3 year subscription.

From current "reviews", there are several changes to what I would personally use, but the "review" playing field always seems tilted towards a few programs that may not always be as independantly assessed, as we would wish for -

Just my opinions -

I am in the search for a laptop with a good fairly high end graphics card. Preferably I would like an i7 quad core with an nvidia gt 555m or better. My budget is ~$1300-1400 including the os (Win 7 Pro). I am planning on running Photoshop, Flash, and Dreamweaver on the laptop. I will also use it for very minimal gaming. 500gb or more would be nice for a hard drive. I would only get an ssd is it is within my budget. As for RAM I would like 4gb minimum. 6-8 would be ideal. I am not really set on any brand in particular. I will gladly accept any recommendations, because I have never bought a laptop before, I have only had one through work.
