Preferred Solution: Vista deleting saved wireless network profiles on restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Deleting older and unused Wireless Network Profiles.

I had reason recently to make a change to one of my wireless network profiles and discovered that I have dozens of profiles listed that are no longer used. They include hotels, printers and other miscellaneous network items.

Can the older unused ones be deleted from the registry without creating a problem?

The only ones that appear in Settings are the ones in current or recent use. If I only had a few to do, I would do it from a DOS window, but I have dozens.

Thanks, Peter B.

All of sudden, Vista won't save my wireless network auto log on.

After every boot, I have to choose my wireless network despite checking "Save this network" and "Start this connection automatically."
This happened seemingly out of nowhere after months of being able to connect automatically. Any kind soul know of a fix? Thanks.

May be that this is rather an OS problem and should'ave been posted in the Vista forum.

I have six network profiles; currently I am on "Network 6".

(I have two network adapters; only one is connected)

How do I clean up the network profiles safely so that I am back to "Network 1"? Should I uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security, before any attempted cleanup?

A:Deleting multiple network profiles safely

Try this

1) Use your mouse to click the Start menu and select the Control Panel.
2) Click the "Network and Internet" button once the Control Panel loads and select the Network and Sharing Center.
3) Click the "Manage network connections" tab.
4) Look for the old network connections you wish to remove in the scroll box. Depending on how many connections you currently have in Windows it is possible you'll need to scroll a bit to find the one you wish to remove.
5) Click on the old connection you wish to remove.
6) Click the "Remove" button.
7) Confirm your selection by pressing "Yes" when asked whether you are sure you wish to remove the connection. You may also elect to press "Cancel" or "No" to return you to the previous screen and prevent the connection's removal.
8) Note that you can also change network connections through the network wizard. Simply click Start, then "Connect To" and "Show all connections."
9) Select the network connection you wish to change by right-clicking on it and selecting the option you wish. You can choose to "Disable" the connection, which would have roughly the same effect as completely removing it, rendering it inactive.
10)Press the "Delete" key after clicking on a network connection in the Network Connection window. This will completely delete the connection in the same way that removing it from the Control Panel would.

I use a Logitech M310 wireless mouse on my Win 7 computer, and I prefer a fast speed. So I typically right click on my desktop and then go to the Personalize screen. From there I click on Change Mouse Pointers, Pointer Options, and then I select a fast pointer speed.

But each time I restart my computer, my fast pointer speed is lost and I'm back to where it started at medium speed.

How can I get my mouse settings to save? My settings for Desktop Background and Screen Saver are saved, but not my mouse pointer speed. Thanks in advance.......

A:Wireless Mouse Settings Aren't Saved in Restart

Have you installed the Logitech mouse software, if not, go to the Logitech website & find the M310 mouse & locate the software download for it making sure you have either the 32 bit or 64 bit version that your Windows 7 is. Download it & then install it.

This will provide you with a program that you can use to customise your mouse settings.

It has been my practice with prior versions of Windows OS's to set up multiple printer profiles, one for drafts, one for color, etc. "The Devices and Printers" section allows me to create such profiles, but does not show them individually. When I delete them in Windows, they are not deleted in the browser and WordPerfect. Advice would be welcome.

A:Multiple Printer Profiles; Deleting Unneeded Profiles

Hi
Welcome to Seven Forums

Following guide is from Microsoft:

Quote:

To associate multiple color profiles to one device

Open Color Management by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type color management, and then click Color Management.
Click the Devices tab.
From the Device list, select the color device that you want to associate with one or more color profiles.
Select the Use my settings for this device check box, and then click Add.
In the Associate Color Profile dialog box, do one or both of the following:
If you want to use a color profile that’s already installed on your computer, click the color profile in the list, and then click OK.
If you want to use a custom color profile that isn’t installed on your computer, click Browse, locate the custom color profile that you want to use, and then click Add.
The selected color profile (or profiles) is now associated with the device and can be used by programs that use Windows Color Management to describe the color characteristics of that device. To use the newly associated color profile as the default color profile for the selected device, click Set as Default Profile.

Click Close.

Note

Your picture or graphics editing program might also let you choose color profiles. When you make changes to the color settings in those programs, the settings are usually only used in that program.

To disassociate a color profile from a device

Open Color Management by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type color management, and then click Color Management.
Click the Devices tab.
From the Device list, select the color device you want to disassociate from one or more color profiles.
Select the Use my settings for this device check box, click the color profile that you want to disassociate from the selected device, and then click Remove.
The selected color profile (or profiles) is no longer associated with the device and won't be used by programs that use Windows Color Management to describe the color characteristics of that device.
Click Close.

Note

Your picture or graphics editing program might also let you choose color profiles. When you make changes to the color settings in those programs, the settings are usually only used in that program.

To save and use a device association

After associating a color profile (or profiles) with a device, you can save and use the new color device association in a few different ways. Any changes you make affect the color settings for the current user account and the selected device only.

Open Color Management by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type color management, and then click Color Management.
Click the Devices tab.
Do one or more of the following:
To merge the current system default color settings that the device uses with the current set of profiles that you associated with the device, click Profiles, and then click Combine my settings with system defaults.
If you decide that you don’t want to use the color profiles that you associated with the device and want to use the system default color settings instead, click Profiles, and then click Reset my settings to the system defaults, or clear the Use my settings for this device check box.

Hello;
I have the home edition. I'm trying to delete a "ZTE Proprietary USB Modem" profile. I've removed the program through device manager and it's gone, but it still shows up when I click on "connect to a network". My adhoc network is also there. How do I get rid of both of them. I'd like to start with a clean slate to get my Ad hoc network going. I've tried the "Manage Wireless Networks" but they don't show up there. Appreciate any help.

Regards, Albert

First time post so treat me gently

Ive spent a lot of time creating a build for our company, I have deployed the image to just over 400 PC's so am reluctant to start over.

Hopefully all you guys & gals out there can help.

Here's the problem.

We have just discovered that when user 'B,C,D,E' etc logs in & opens or creates a document, that documents Author is user 'A'.

Ive stripped all references to User 'A' from registry & deleted user 'A's profile but still user's docs always say authored or edited by user 'A'.

Little background, when I created the image I asked different specialist within the company to logon & install specific software for their dept. User 'A' was one of them!!

Any insights into where I can look would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if there is a way to remove networks from the list. I live in an apt. building so a lot of networks show up and sometimes my laptop will automatically try to connect to some of them. When I go to "manage wireless networks" in the control panel, my network is the only one listed however.

A:Need help deleting wireless networks in Vista

snarfman, long time , no see. how ya been ? The thing about your wireless adapter finding any other radio signal from other routers is kind of hard to stop it from doing, it is suppose to. Morally , you should only use your ISP service , but, plenty of people do have open signals without a password on it and many people will connect to the internet if allowed. I allow my neighbor to use my router, but, i noticed , when i set him up, his computer found 3 routers, mine and another were password locked and only one was open . I gave him my password so as he can use my internet. So, i am not sure you can really stop your computer from " seeing " the other ones out there.

Ok you installed a software to change the settings on your Wireless. This was not compatible and when you uninstalled it the Wireless went away too?On the front left side or in between your keyboard and the screen (depending on the model) you will find your Wireless switch ...Make sure it will go to blue. If it goes your WiFi is detected. You can always configure it to connect to the net, assuming your connection is broadband, without any software. You can always look in "device manger" too see the status of it.If it doesn't, go to Start, and type "recovery" in start search, go to the recovery manger and click on "application a driver recovery", "Driver recovery", and reinstall your wireless Network card driver. Depending on the model again, it will most likely be called "BroadCom ... wireless", if you don't see BroadCom, look for "Intel ... Wireless" and reinstall it.The software you installed needs to be uninstalled. But this will make you see if your WiFi NIC is present or detected. You can always recover your nb and bring it back to factory settings to make sure everything is in the right place, using the recovery manager, but this will delete all the info in your nb.Mav

Hello All I am a computer application's teacher at a small junior high school I deal mainly with programs so my networking and hardware knowledge is VERY limited I create a user profile in the active User Profiles? FOREVER and sometimes I get a message that says another computer is using something in the folder and it can't delete the profile I then have to start over and try to figure out which profile cannot be deleted I have student computers that I have to go through this process with I'm wondering if it wouldn't be faster to reformat them all Sorry for the book but my degree is actually in English so I tend to be quite wordy Shiela

A:Deleting User Profiles?

Did you ever find out the answer for this? I'm in a similar situation. I came into a small office with about 12 computers and have taken over most of the desktop support. At one time or another, all the computers have changed hands and each has a user folder for every employee. I wouldn't care, but the doc & settings folder on most PC's are 14-25gb. Most was in the my documents folder, so that content was deleted, though each account still has .75-2gb throughout misc. folders.

My question is if I can just delete these old user folders or if I need to keep them?

I've read in other posts here that if the a specific user installed a program (lets say MS word since all users will use it), then it's settings are tied to that specific users account and deleting it will cause word to have problems.

Hello I have a problem and it appears to have been for there for a while I have wired computers on my network and maybe - wireless computers that aren't always on I use computers one restart needs Network (wired and loses connection, wireless) laptop wireless and one desktop wired laptop XP desktop Vistax The laptop one day suddenly kept dropping connections to the net but a re-enabling of the network card would usually Network (wired and wireless) loses connection, needs restart solve the problem Then it would drop randomly again after that I thought it was something wrong with my computer so I reformatted it but the problem kept coming back But now I don't use that laptop much anymore so that doesn't worry me However I bought new tower desktop the wired one with high end specs i e Q bit processor and whatever else comes with a high end computer and this uses a wired connection to the router I've bought it for only month The ethernet cable is also new The router is a D-Link DI- - years already Less frequently this desktop also started disconnecting randomly but more of these disconnections occurred during the times I would use this to play online Warcraft games rather than me surfing the net and using MSN Messenger The difference here is that with the desktop I can't re-enable the ethernet card because in the Device manager the window crashes when I right click for the drop down window on my Network Adapters list This doesn't happen when the network is working The Networks and Sharing Center also takes ages to load and sometimes never loads just hangs Everything else in Windows works perfectly fine I am not sure if they are the same problem However one other laptop Windows vista met the same issue as the desktop It had the same crashes in the same places the network sharing centre would hang as well For the desktop and that other laptop only a reboot would solve the problem I don't know if it is because the Vista laptop accessed the networks using windows and if windows had an error then the connection couldn't be repaired However with my XP-laptop the network was managed by Intel Pro Wireless and the problem could be solved with a simple reenabling but would recur MORE FREQUENTLY I have yet to check the network IP status of the computers during a connection-down but pulling out the cable to my desktop does not solve the problem Neither does resetting the router What I do know is for my laptop and my desktop a disconnection on the laptop doesn't mean a disconnection on the desktop Vice versa I don't know as of yet The disconnections for the laptop seemed to start after I assigned WPA-TKIP keys to the network but an ethernet cable connection to the desktop means that the problem should be independent of the pass keys So the only filter for the network for my desktop is the MAC filter With the second desktop that I mentioned I have yet to see it disconnect or hear of other people complaining about disconnection maybe because I rarely use it Has anyone else experienced this problem I don't want to get a new router before knowing the problem because if it isn't the router then I would have used my money for nothing Thanks Edit ALL MY DRIVERS ARE UP TO DATE ACCORDING TO VISTA INCLUDING FIRMWARE FOR THE ROUTER OF WHICH NEW FIRMWARE IS UNAVAILABLE ON THE DLINK WEBSITE -dcde

I have a Ralink Turbo Wireless LAN Card.

I randomly lose my connection to the network and it is frustrating. I have to restart my computer everytime this happens.

I cannot repair connection, and i cannot view any networks when this occurs.

There is no apparent problems before or after in hardware devices.

Any help would be apreciated!

I have Windows Vista and we have Time Warner internet (I kno, it really sucks). Well, we have a Belkin router and sometimes the internet stops working and we have to reset the router. When this happens, my wireless connection (Netgear PCI card) does not find any networks. My roomates have no problem. If I restart my computer, it works properly. I tried to disable the connection (so i could enable it later), but it would not disable. When I try this and later restart Windows, the blue-ish screen that says Windows Is Shutting Down with the circle spinning stays on the screen and nothing happens.

I hate having to restart my computer since I usually keep it on. Is there anyone who might know why this is happening? I am in college and there are unfortunately no other alternatives for internet. Thanks for anyone who can help!

I m a new user of Windows just turned and Domain Accounts, Deleting Profiles, User Files it on for the first time a few days ago but I m pretty familiar with the setup since I ve used Vista for over a year now This Windows machine that I just turned on a few days ago is a new work machine for another employee here at my place of work I ve gone ahead and already added it to our domain and I ve signed onto it using multiple user accounts that were created in our Active Directory My question is how can I go about deleting those Domain User Accounts Profiles and Files off of this Windows computer I ve already made the mistake of deleting the user folder in the C Users folder just to find Deleting Domain User Accounts, Profiles, and Files out that if I deleted a user and tried to sign back on as that user thinking it would create a new profile folder in C Users it created a temporary profile In the past when using XP all I would normally have to do is delete the user profile folder in C Documents and Settings and I was able to sign back in as that user and have a new profile created I hope this makes sense Thanks

ok so this problem has been going on for awhile now but has gotten worse somehow...

before i could not access my vista computer upstairs from my xp computer downstairs.

i've made sure the settings are what they should be on the vista computer since i can easily access my xp computer from the vista computer.

now the problem has gotten worse by that i can't access my xp computer from the vista computer or vice versa so now i can't transfer files from each computer. i need to use my external drive or a flash drive.

Whenever my desktop goes into sleep mode or is restarted it returns being unable to connect to the internet. This happens because my Network Security Key reverts to an old password. I've updated the driver, changed the power save settings on the
driver, and reintered the network security key a number of different times but it seems that no matter how I go about it, the new key will not 'stick'.

A:Wireless Network Security Key Reverts to Old Security Key on Restart or Sleep Mode

ok I have finally discovered the solution on my own. I have been banging my head against a wall with this issue for some time but I have finally figured it out.
If you are having trouble with Windows 7 not saving your network security key, or reverting to some old key, the solution is as follows:

run msconfig (start > run (or just type into the "Search programs and files" field above the windows orb) > msconfig)
this brings up the System Configuration dialog box
click the Startup tab
scroll to find your wifi adapter's startup program (in my case it was NETGEAR)
uncheck the box next to this startup item

restart your computer. problem solved.

I have 7 computers in my home network. It is a mixed setting, with some laptops (4), some desktops (3): some wired (2) into the router, some on wireless (5), and some with Windows XP (5) and some with Vista (2).

All of this works generally fine, except for one thing: I have one Vista laptop on wireless, and the transfer speed beyween it and the rest of the network is hopelessly slow. Internet access is fine, only transfering files inside the network is MUCH slower than between the XP machines. Also, if I wire the Vista machine, the transfer speed is fine. I also tried with my regular Vista desktop, which normally is wired, but now temporarily on wireless, and the exact same thing happens.

Can anyone explain this?

All help much appreciated.

Jemoto

A:Vista in wireless network

hmm, have you checked firewall settings or anything that could mess with it like that? i can't think of what the problem would be especially if the connection is there(just slow)...

When you test this is it the only pc connected to the network(e.g. is there anything else hogging network attention)... and are there any p2p based applications? (e.g. 4oD/bbc's player?) because i've heard of problems with these...

Cheers,
Jamey

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a wireless network at home. I have my main computer with Windows XP installed on it, which is connected directly to the router and my laptop.

My laptop can already access internet through the router. I want these two computers to share files now.
I've gone through the set up process of the wireless network from the XP, where I have uploaded files on the USB key and plugged it into the laptop. After restarting, I can see all the devices and files from my laptop, but I don't see shared filed on the laptop from the main PC. What could be the problem?

A:Wireless network between Vista and XP

Probable cause is a 3rd party firewall (internet security). Assuming you turned on file sharing on the laptop.

Hello all,

Weird problem. I hooked up a linksys device to one of my laptop to change settings on it. Now that I have unhooked it. For some reason, there is no longer a network tab under the properties of my wireless card! I have enabled the wired and wlan config in services but it still will not come back! I'm trying to configure a wireless connection with the internal wireless card like I normally do. The tab is just no longer there! I have no idea why and I'm lost.

Any ideas? Remember this is Vista there is no wireless zero configuration just the wired and wlan config.

Is your copy of Vista updated to SP1? What version of Vista are you running? Is your system clean and free of viruses and other malware. By Network tab, do you mean the word "Network" in the start menu?

Not a problem this time just a few questions which hopefully someone can answer for me please Scenario a laptop running Vista Home Premium SP and connecting wireless Atheros adapter to a home network wireless network Vista options which also has a wired connection to a desktop PC Let s call the wireless SSID Vista wireless network options quot FRED quot Whilst dealing with something else went to Network Connections on the laptop double-clicked on the Wifi adapter then clicked Wireless Properties In the pop-up window which Vista wireless network options followed for FRED there were four options listed Vista wireless network options as follows - Connect automatically when this network is in range Connect to a more preferred network if available Connect even if the network is not broadcasting Enable Atheros connection settings All these options were already checked except for the last one Question I only ever want to connect to FRED so obviously I want the first option on But it seemed to me that as I did NOT want to connect to any other network then I did not need the second option so I un-checked that I then found that although the laptop would still connect OK to FRED and access the Internet etc it could not see the desktop any more nor could the desktop see it Why did that happen Once I re-checked the option everything went back to normal Question regarding the third option how on earth do you connect to a network which is not broadcasting or is that meant to be quot not broadcasting its SSID quot Question what does the last option do Needless to say the Help with the laptop didn t cover any of the above nbsp

A:Vista wireless network options

I'm not sure about question 1, I can't imagine why that would affect file sharing.

Question 2 is indeed talking about SSID broadcasts.

I have no idea what Enable Atheros connection settings does, sounds like something specific to your wireless driver.

Originally set up Broadband on a desktop using the AOL broadband drivers disc and BT Voyager Then an ex-tenant set up a wireless network with a D-Link G T Wireless Modem Router took the BT Voyager Broadband Modem out of the equation and hard-wired the D-Link directly into the desktop This was for our wireless laptops Last year I go rid of the Wireless / Vista Windows Network desktop but the Laptop continued to work as Windows Vista / Wireless Network per norm perhaps I should have loaded the AOL Broadband drivers onto the laptop Then last week my laptop broke and I have replaced it with a new one which has Windows Vista / Wireless Network Windows Vista Home Premium I could get straight onto Windows Vista / Wireless Network the wireless network at my parents isp Toucan but I can t get a wireless connection on mine It was picking up the G T as an Unnamed Network so I typed in G T followed by the security password but to no avail I was however able to hard-wire into the wireless modem and got a connection one evening But now even when doing that it is saying it is connected but Local Area Only and the explorer window crashes Perhaps I need to load upgraded AOL drivers and use and AOL Wireless Modem Router nbsp

A:Windows Vista / Wireless Network

When you are connected via ethernet to the modem/router can you actually communicate with it? If so, login to it and make sure the SSID broadcast is enabled, and look in the WAN (Internet) section to see what you can learn. In that section should be all the stuff you need for connecting to AOL.

I have a a pretty new HP laptop running Vista Home Premium My wireless card is an Intel Wireless WiFi Link AGN I am experiencing a problem that is somewhat similar to a problem that many people have complained about regarding Vista's network utilities however my problem is distinct from those For as long as I can remember hovering over the network icon clicking on the network icon and trying to access the Network and Sharing Center has yielded a very slow response When first loading the Network and Sharing Center I get an empty window with Not Responding at the top This eventually loads after usually less than a minute This slowness occurs while using wired lan or wireless Recently I have had difficulty connecting to networks When I turn my computer on my computer connects Network Wireless Vista Problem to the default home network but tells me the network is local only This is untrue I have tested the network with other devices other computer PS Sometimes I will have a few brief seconds when the computer turns on that the internet will work but Vista Wireless Network Problem then it will return to quot local only quot I only experience this problem when using wireless Some people have mentioned a similar problem but all of those who did also mentioned that their network icon had a 'red x' in the corner indicating 'Not Connected' status and an error message reading quot connection status unknown server execution failed quot I experience neither of these issues I have no idea what the problem is It is difficult to search for a solution on Google because the search terms bring up many useless hits I appreciate any advice I am at my wit's end Thank you -Chris

I am experiencing a problem that is somewhat similar to a problem that many people have complained about regarding Vista's network utilities, however my problem is distinct from those.

For as long as I can remember, hovering over the network icon, clicking on the network icon, and trying to access the Network and Sharing Center has yielded a very slow response. When first loading the Network and Sharing Center, I get an empty window with (Not Responding) at the top. This eventually loads after usually less than a minute. This slowness occurs while using wired lan or wireless.

Recently, I have had difficulty connecting to networks. When I turn my computer on, my computer connects to the default home network, but tells me the network is local only. This is untrue; I have tested the network with other devices (other computer, PS3). Sometimes I will have a few brief seconds when the computer turns on that the internet will work, but then it will return to "local only". I only experience this problem when using wireless.

Some people have mentioned a similar problem, but all of those who did also mentioned that their network icon had a 'red x' in the corner (indicating 'Not Connected' status) and an error message reading "connection status unknown: server execution failed". *I experience neither of these issues*.

I have no idea what the problem is. It is difficult to search for a solution on Google because the search terms bring up many useless hits.

I appreciate any advice; I am at my wit's end.

Thank you,

-Chris

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I have purchased a new Dell laptop with Vista loaded. I am trying to connect this to my existing wireless network where I already have 3 XP laptops connected. I am able to find my network and connect but only have limited access and am not able to connect to the internet. When I look at the connection details, the ip information is not populating. I have also tried to connect directly to obtain the IP addresses but this has not worked. I have tried to manually enter the gateway, subnet IPs but can only obtain limited access. My wireless network is connected to a cable modem and is a secured network. Thank you.

I have dell I6400 with vista basic. I also am a computer tech, but don't have enough vista training to figure out this problem. I use my machine just for the MS streets and trips with GPS, since I drive around all day fixing computers. If I have the wireless turned on during the day, it will pick up a wireless network. But, it won't release it when I hit refresh. When I get home, the only way to see my wireless home network is to reboot the machine. I am not currently using any security until I fix this issue, just to eliminate that as an issue. Also, clicking refresh does nothing. Is there a setting that locks in the first available wireless network that vista finds, and won't release it until reboot? Thanks.

A:wireless network issues with vista

You could try

open the command promt and type

netsh wlan disconnect 1 (substitute 1 for the name of the wireless network you cant diconnect from)

Or type at the command promt

netsh wlan connect 2 (substitute 2 for the name of your home wireless lan)

If it works this way you could make a batch file that would save you having to type this every time you get home. Simply create a new text document rename it to something like conenctathome.bat (make sure the extension is changing to .bat from .txt)

Add this line to the text document

netsh wlan connect 2 (again substitute the 2 for the name of your wirless lan)

Save the file and double click it to execute the connect command when ya get home.

This is just a work around though and may or may not work.
There are plenty of other netsh wlan commands that might do the trick for you.

At a command prompt type netsh wlan ?

This will give you a list of commands that can be executed.

Try a few out, I'm not familiar with all of them unfortuantely. could be something to do with you rprofiles though likely its a driver issue, possibly ACPI.

I have a linksys wireless N router and a linksys wireless N adapter model WMP300N and its HORRIBLE..keeps disconnecting from the network and its only 2 rooms away..i need a new adapter can anyone help me out please?!

A:Best wireless N network adapter for vista?

Maybe you should investigate why that adapter is having a problem, it could be driver issues, wireless interference, etc. That adapter has a decent reputation, so I'd try to track down the source of the issue before just buying a different adapter. I think you're jumping the gun here on replacement.

A:how to enable wireless network on vista?

Hello nickig105 and welcome to the forums

Can you do the following for me please:

CKScanner

Please download CKScanner from here to your Desktop.

Make sure that CKScanner.exe is on the your Desktop before running the application!

Double-click on CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
A message box will verify the file saved
Attach the log CKFiles.txt that has been created on your desktop with your next post

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Download and install MBAM from here
Run a full scan and attach the log with your next post for me to analyse

OTL

Download OTL to your desktop.
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.
Once OTL has completed its first scan it will save notepad copies of the scans in the folder that OTL was started from. Unless set to produce an Extras log it will only produce OTL.txt in subsequent scans.

A copy of an OTL fix log is saved in a text file at

:\_OTL\MovedFiles
in most cases this will be C:\_OTL\MovedFiles

Please attach both OTL.txt and Extras.txt with your next post for me to analyse

SFC Scan

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. Right click on cmd and select Run as administrator
4. In command prompt, type:

sfc /scannow

5. Let it run and let me know if it finds any Integrity Violations

I borrowed my nans laptop, it worked on her wifi and on my mobile hotspot. But when I conenct it to mine, it is stuck on identifiying network and eventually says "Unidentified Network".
I have had this problem for a week and have tried:
Disabling IPv6 in Properties
Running Microsoft FixIt (which surprisingly did nothing, except remove the wifi icon from the right bottom corner of the vista toolbar).

In my house I have an airport extreme and then a dsl modem which has wireless. I've always connected to the modem wirelessly as it is faster than using the airport. However after restarting the modem vista will no longer connect to it even though it is working. It will however connect to the airport which is strange as the airport is connected to the modem, so I do know the internet is working. When I diagnose the problem it tells me it's a unknown error. Any help in trying to get connected again to the modem would be a great help. Thanks

I am running Vista Home Edition on my laptop, and I connect to the Internet via a wireless router (Linsys). When the Playstaion 3 or the X-Box 360 has been powered on, the game systems automatically locate the wireless connection and connect to the Internet. The problem is, once this happens, my laptop is no longer able to connect to the Internet.

How do I configure my PC, PS3, and X-Box to be connected simultaneously?

A:Vista Cannot Connect to Wireless Network

Hi. It's been four days since my initial post so I thought a bump was in order.

Also, it seems the computer is having trouble connecting ONLY to my home network. I took it elsewhere to another secured wifi network with which it is familiar and had no problems at all.

Looking forward to a reply.

A:Can't connect to wireless network on Vista

You also cannot connect by ethernet?

I'm having trouble understanding why anybody would buy a computer with Vista installed. Is this a used computer? If so, is the OS also pre-used or is it a fresh install?

The next screen I click "Enter/Select additional log on information" but this brings up a user name/ password/ login domain screen... Click to expand...

I'm struggling with understanding where this is coming from. Not a problem with the way you described things; I just don't remember ever running across that when I had Vista.

Try disabling encryption on the router and see if you can get a connection that way.

A:Vista 64 cant detect my wireless network

You know, Ive been battling with a wireless network connection in Vista x86 and x64 for 2 years now. I am using a Netgear WG111v2 USB adaptor, which I know is a bit older.. But I get constant drops, and 50% of those drops from the network result in the inabillity to find a network connection.

The adaptor only connects to the network when plugged in one specific USB port, the other ones result in finding the network but being unable to connect.

Very frustrating. I could just upgrade my adaptor, I hear USB ones are not that great to use, but if anyone has any information on this as well Id appreciate it..

What does Public mean in the context of network profiles.

Does it simply refer to the files under the \Public directory....or does it refer to some security issue aspect of unauthorized users accessing my home network???

A:Network profiles

Home, Work and Public are so called Network Locations. A Home network is a network where only users and computers you know well are connected to same network, a Public network is for instance an airport WiFi HotSpot where a lot of unknown users and computers are connected to same network and you need to be extra careful not to share something personal or let stranges access your computer.

Read Brink's excellent tutorial about Network Locations here: Network Location - Set as Home, Work, or Public Network

Microsoft gives also some nice tips in selecting correct network location: Choosing a network location

OS Vista Ultimate Bit Ok I have a laptop with the above OS on it The problem started about a month ago when I installed a rd party video card driver GeForce Go because the old one couldn't run Fable I have roll backed the driver to the previous one but the problem wireless/network Vista with software. issue persisted I'm not sure if the problem is exactly due to the driver because it may have started earlier I'm not sure What's happening is When I right click on the network connections Vista issue with wireless/network software. icon the tray it does odd things It always tells me the computer if off line even though I'm connected perfectly Sometimes it ignores my right click until I restart the system Sometimes it comes up but i can't click any options Other times it loads the network connections window but never responds Although sometimes it will load after an hour or two I created a second user account to see if it still happens It loaded and gave me a network selections menu and I was able to connect but still told me I was off line Is there a way to fix this Also if no-one ever seen this problem before I'm considering going to a clean version of my OS I don't have access to my installation CD for a few weeks is there a way to reformat my drives and redo my OS without the disk Another kind of off-topic question I noticed I didn't have the ability to copy-paste in the second user account I made even though I made it full admin Is that working as intended or a glitch If it's intended how do I get rid of it

A:64bit Vista wireless network problems

When this was happening to me after adding a x64 Vista machine to an existing modem/router config I had been using for years - the final solution was simply to do a physical reset of the router, restart the modem, and run the web-based router setup again...

....and just like that, gone forever was the "local only" issue. I spent so many hours looking up all the possible causes (firmware updates, incompatibility with older networking equipment, manually setting the network, disabling IPv6, etc.) and was very close to replacing all the hardware - then something this simple actually fixed it.

Can you "see" your router under the "Network" tab?

Is the wireless set to Public or private?
To access the network AT home one needs to be private, and to be protected when at the mall or coffee shop one needs to be public.
You can check you settings by Right clicking the network icon and selecting network sharing center.

I can't get a vista PC to view web pages on a wireless network. It is connecting OK via a Netgear USB adapter with updated Vista drivers and Netgear software but when I try to reach a page I get "page not found"

I have noticed in the IE address bar it is trying to reach a long garbled URL beginning with autoredirectaol%"*%&)£$

ISP is AOL.

Could it be wanting to to sign into AOL first?

Norton Internet Security is also installed could this be blocking something?

Still getting to grips with Vista so any help would be appreciated

A:can't get a vista PC to view web pages on a wireless network

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Also...

Changes that may help to increase the compatibility of Vista with older networking devices:

Disable the IP Helper service:

1. Go to Start and type in "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties
3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply"
4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
5. Click OK to exit the dialog

Disable IPv6:

1. Go to Start and type in "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties"
3. Remove the checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
4. Click OK to exit the dialog

NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:

Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233

Go to Start and type in regedit and press Enter.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}
In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey to be updated.
If the key DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag does not exist, use the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then press ENTER. If the key exists, skip this step.
Right-click DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
Close Registry Editor.
NOTE: You should do this for each and every GUID subkey.

The only program I'm aware of that currently relies on IPv6 is the new Windows Meeting Space. The first 2 changes will cause that program not to work - but will leave all of your normal (IPv4) connections unaffected. If it causes problems that you can't overcome, simply revert back to the original settings.

A:Vista crash from wireless network card

Hi,

Probably the first thing I would try is to update the driver for your wireless adapter and see if this makes any difference. Failing this or if you've already tried the above, you could try going into the Device Management console (if you know how) and finding the entry pertaining to your wireless adapter under 'Network Adapters' or similar. Then right-click the entry and select 'Uninstall'. Then you can do one of two things: you can either click the button at the top entitled 'Scan for hardware changes', or restart the computer. Either way Windows should try to re-install the wireless adapter driver, and hopefully find your wireless network.

Post back here if you still have problems. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jon.

A:Windows Vista network wireless connection help?

can we have the adapter type - if a AR5007(eg) type adapter on vista we see this a lot - and i have listed below how to resolve

other wise post back the make and model of the pc
make and model of the router
do you have any other devices connected and working
status of all the lights on the router
if modem separate - status of the lights on the modem

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007

Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

The majority of fixes are via installing a new driver from either the Manufacturers website and if that does not resolve the issue then from the atheros web site - see item (3)

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

If you post a reply here with the Make and EXACT model of your PC, along with the windows version you are running. we will see if we can find a link to the driver and will post a reply with the link here.

--- 3) The majority of members, have now used the drivers from the atheros driver site, which has resolved the issue.
- see below for direct links for windows vista and the link for all Atheros adapters and supported operating systems

--- 4) On one occasion re-setting the router back to factory default and re-configuring the router settings has resolved the issue
AR5007
Vista 32 / 64 Bit
Direct link Drivers for Atheros AR5007 and Windows Vista 32 / 64 bit
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started
AR5007EG
Vista 32 / 64 Bit
Direct link Drivers for Atheros AR5007EG and Windows Vista 32 / 64 bit
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started
Drivers for the other windows operating system
http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-drivers.php
You need to look down the page for your particular adapter model and then look across the columns to find your windows version.
Now click on the blue tick mark in the column under your windows version.
This will open another page for that particular adapter and that windows version.

Now click on the download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started

Assuming that after all the above the wireless still does not connect to the internet, all I can suggest is to use wireless security of WEP or to get an external USB wireless card.

Please post a reply here , and keep us informed of the situation and how you finally resolved the issue.
