Hash/Hash Codes? Downloading Music Online? What are these numbers in my MP3?

Q: Hash/Hash Codes? Downloading Music Online? What are these numbers in my MP3?

OMG, I have so many questions that are killing me! and mostly they are related to mp3's! Please answer these if you have enough knowledge!

1. If I download music (by payment) on the internet, can I choose which format/bitrate I want it in? And can I choose lossless .wav format? I don't buy music online.

2. What are these numbers followed by the word Hash? What are these things?
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/8285/hashmq4.jpg

3. What are these things - when I check the properties of an mp3 in it's comments/description tag, I often see numbers and letters in groups like this: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/1835/commentsordescriptionxx6.jpg

Preferred Solution: Hash/Hash Codes? Downloading Music Online? What are these numbers in my MP3?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No, only the original .iso you installed from can be validated with hashes.

Hi all, these are my hashes according to install.wim, these are the zukona leak hashes for the 64 bit ultimate version of 7, well they don't seem to match the hashes on technet, I have a technet subscription but I don't want to redownload the os because of isdn. What's the deal I thought the zukona leak was legit? is it not?

I havent used my key off technet to activate yet because i'm unsure if my copy is legit.

Whatever you're posting upstairs, it most definitely is NOT the MS DL, NOR the Zuko numbers.

It sounds like you created a "hash" from the single file 'install.wim' (maybe from Zukona) and you're comparing those numbers with the full DL .iso files....

You gotta go back to square-one and decide which numbers you're posting, and what they are for...

These are the numbers you need:

Hello,

My OS is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 running on HP 6735b notebook, with 2 GB of RAM, 512 MB ATI HD 3200 Gcard, AMD ATHLON 64 X2 2.2 GHZ, 2 HDs 58 and 62 GB.

My notebook also has Ubuntu loaded on it and it is running on a 28 GB space.

I lost my adminstrator password and I want to recover it. I used Ophcrack for windows xp and it only found LM Hash, NT Hash and LM password 1. I guess NT password was the one that I should use to log in to adminstrator account. So is there a way to convert NT Hash to NT password. I need help.

Thank you

My AVG free takes almost 2 hrs to run so I'd like to download the new version hoping it'll be faster. The explanation tells me to check the MD5 hash value and I found a download to do this. But I"m not sure what I'm doing. It says to download digestIT 2004 and then calculate the hash value. I'm not sure how to do that and where tofind this info. Shd I be doing this on every download? I've never heard of it but it sounds like a good thing. Any advice?

A:How to check MD5 hash value

First, download the MD5 Program (very small download, and it is zipped so you will have to extract the executable from this download). Put it some place easy like "C:\"

Open the command prompt by pressing the Windows key + R (or start > run) and type cmd in the prompt that loads.

In the command prompt window type something similar to below (what you type will depend on where your download is, and where you have stored the md5 executable)

First, change directory to whatever directory you put the md5 exe in (e.g. cd c:\ if you put it where I suggested)

Second, run it by typing md5sums "c:\whatever\directory\your\download-is-in.exe" It will process the command it give you a long string of letters and numbers which should match the one the download had on it's site.

All this will do, is tell you if your download completed successfully, or if it is corrupt.

Dear all,

My Windows Explorer is crashing regularly (mostly when scrolling down pics) and I am looking for a way to solve the issue. It's a StackHash Error, which I have tried to solve by creating a DEP exception, however since it's a 64 bit version this is not possible. Do you have any other idea how to solve the problem??? I post the error code here, however it's German.

Hi and welcome to TSF try

Method 1:

Perform a clean boot.
Note: If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. It is strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to modify the advanced boot options on the computer unless a Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable. 1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
2. Click Start, type "msconfig" in the Start Search box or Run command, and then press enter to start the System Configuration Utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Note Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.
5. Click ok, and then click restart.
Method 2:
1. Click start and type "regedit" on search bar (on RUN command)
2. Navigate to following key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions
3. Now delete all string key except default inside "Disabled Sessions"
Method 3:
1. Click start and type "gpedit.msc" search bar or on run command
2. Now navigate to
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Internet Communication Management, and then click Internet Communication settings
3. Locate "Turn off Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program", double click or right click to edit
4. Click on "Enable". Apply and ok, now close gpedit windows.

hey there, so basically ill get straight down to it,

my little bit of code is to move the ASCII value of my password 3 to the left, (my first attempt at encryption)

well, at least I thought something like this would work:
Code:
For p = 1 To 5
For i = 1 To Len(password1)
password1 = Chr(Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1)) + 3)
Next i
Next p
but it doesn't

can u give me some ideas... advice.. guidance, anything that can help me out

I don't know much about vb.net so plz keep ur code snippets easy for me

thx a lot

A:Vb.net help plz. beginners attempt to hash

Although I'm not familiar with the particular language you're writing in, I've debugged lots of similar problems simply by inserting some code to "audit" whatever's going on. For instance, at each step of the above, display or (preferably) print out:
p= (value of p)
i= (value of i)
password1= (value)
Mid(password1, i, 1)= (value)
Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1))= (value)
Chr(Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1)) + 3)= (value)

I suspect that your code, as written, is replacing the string password1 with the single character Chr(Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1)) + 3) -- which, after the first such replacement, would presumably be null for any i > 1. An audit run like the above would tell you if that's the case or not.

Try leaving password1 unchanged while you store your new result in something like password2.

Vista 64. Just a quick question on this. I've been seeing this error in my event viewer for a few days. My system boots fine, but I'm still seeing this. Should I be worried about it? I ran a SFC scan, but I still get this in event viewer. Nothing is showing up in my reg cleaner or anything else. System is now clean of spyware and viruses.

Code integrity determined that the image hash of a file is not valid. The file could be corrupt due to unauthorized modification or the invalid hash could indicate a potential disk device error.

File Name: \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\wininet.dll

I don't have a Vista disc to repair from, just restore on a different drive on my system. Should I even do anything about this error?

A:Wininet.dll Invalid Hash

Carrigon
If you are not having problems, there is no need for concern. That DLL helps with the internet. If you are working properly do not worry about the error of DLL. It may be caused by a small error in the registry, which CAN be caused by reg cleaners. If you want my suggestions for maintenance, just ask. I can tell you reg cleaners are not on it and not needed for Vista.

Now the bad news
Many virus disguise themselves as winnet.dll.
Make a full antivirus scan. Update
Donwload and make a full scan with malwarebytes
Make a full scan with eset online scanner, no need to download.

I got a pass the hash alert but it is on a Direct Access server.
A previous pass the ticket alert asked me if the computer was a DirectAccess proxy, this alert does not.
I do not see a way to do this for this new alert.

This problem has just come up recently. Multiple green pixels appear in a rectangular pattern, and they go away when I minimize the window. However, sometimes they do not. An example of one is attached below.

It shows up primarily on my Mozilla Firefox. It has on one occasion shown up on my word processor. At first I thought it was a stuck pixel. But I was under the impression that a stuck pixel stays on the screen and will not go away. This goes away after changing the window size. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks.

We are currently in monitor mode with ATA and have been receiving alerts since going live on Sunday 10/20.   The alert says the users hash is being passed from an unknown system to the system that is used by the owner of the hash that is being

Should we respond to alerts that are generated during the 30 day monitoring period or should they be ignored until that period is completed?

Hi guys,

I have a home server running Windows 7 x64. Over time I notice sometimes files can silently corrupt themselves. These include distortions in audio files, skips in video, and partially blanked-out or unreadable images.

Recently an important photo from a long time ago was lost due to this, so I'm trying to prevent any further such event.

Microsoft's FCIV only works on per-file basis, more suited for checking downloads and not keeping a database of file integrity hashes. Can someone recommend a program that will do this please?

Apologies, but I don't have an app for you, rather just curious about the issue itself.

Files just don't simply get corrupted because of age or time. As you know, file corruption can occur if the storage media fails or is damaged; if an error occurs during file transmission (copying or moving); software issues (infection, bugs, etc...).

Do you mean that a portion of a file is simply missing/erased -- like there is a "gap" in it?

If a file has changed in the manner in which you describe, I would expect CRC errors.

Cyclic redundancy check

Have you repeatedly copied these files from system to system or used a back-up app to copy them to an external drive, DVDs or other media?

What happened to the photo when you tried to open it? Did the app you used say "invalid file format" or similar? What app was used to open it and what was the error message?

Can you zip up and attach some of these damaged files for us to take a look at?

FCIV provides for exactly that - a hash DB -

Quote:

With the FCIV utility, you can also compute hashes of all your critical files and save the values in an XML file database. If you suspect that your computer may have been compromised, and important files have been changed, you can run a verification of the file system files against the XML database to determine which files have been modified.

Hiya

Painkiller is a FPS game for Microsoft Windows operating systems. Painkiller versions 1.35 and prior are vulnerable to a buffer overflow. The standard cd key is 72 characters. By sending a long cd key (more than 100 bytes) to the Painkiller server, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer. This could be exploited to possibly allow execution of arbitrary code on the system or a denial of service.

Hey all!

I'm just wondering, would it be a bad idea to use a hash function to locate duplicate files? What do you think?

Say you have about 100'000 files and 4000 folders on F:\ and you suspect that there are some duplicates of these files stored on the G:\ drive. Wouldn't it be enough to just generate SHA-1 digests for each file on F:\ and G:\ drive, and then just compare them to see which ones match?... wouldn't that give you a complete picture of which files are duplicates and which ones are not? Could this approach possibly yield in some false positives?...

Let me know what you think.

Okay now the up arrow on 6 won't work either. I've never ever had this problem before, I have a Windows XP OS, um Logitech keyboard. It's nothing urgent lol. Help is much appreciated. A:The dollar sign button and hash don't work anymore? Lol.

If possible try the keyboard on another computer or try another keyboard on your computer - easier to rule out the keyboard then doing a lot of software changes.

But if the keyboard physically works then try uninstalling or installing the Logitech keyboard software.

A:Weird 'hash mark' lines on screen and mouse menus

Sounds like an overheating issue, or Ram failure

You may want to check your Event Viewer (at time of crash) to see what may be causing it (Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer)

And run Memtest on your 2 Gig of Ram, thorough 7 passes preferred.

If it happens very often (every 15mins) then you may want to completely remove your Video card and use the onboard video (if that exists) just to test it

Hi I just found this forum and registered to join this community and further participate in it Seems pretty big Anyway I have quite a problem in my PC that is literally taking sleep time from me The thing is that files randomly get corrupted Let me explain Some time ago a month aprox I detected that the Linux ISOs I downloaded from BitTorrent using latest uTorrent client downloaded corrupted I E the file would complete get Hash mismatch, CORRUPTED! *mostly* tests Files they randomly but work. Advanced OK and then let's say it was a RARed file when unpacking it would give a 'CRC error' on it After some days I tried going back to uTorrent and 'forcing a recheck' then it would rehash the file and the file from before would be completed to for example now Redownload file unpacked OK That was the first stage All these images I downloaded I had to do the same for them No big deal for now until I reformat again and I thought it would fix by a fresh installation of Windows Now the real problem here began when I copied an Acronis Files get randomly CORRUPTED! Hash mismatch, but they *mostly* work. Advanced tests True Image TIB file from my laptop to my desktop via ethernet cable I copied it burned it on a DVD in my desktop and then found that ImgBurn would fail the Verify stage I said 'well it SHOULD still work ' Then I went to Verify the image Files get randomly CORRUPTED! Hash mismatch, but they *mostly* work. Advanced tests file with built-in Acronis verify function Guess what It failed that verification too The files was corrupted First gross check I did the file has the same bytes size in the laptop desktop and DVD At that stage I didn't know what I was going into The fact was that in the laptop the file would verify OK with Acronis it was OK there So Files get randomly CORRUPTED! Hash mismatch, but they *mostly* work. Advanced tests I tried recopying it again over the ethernet cable to my desktop Burned Corrupted again Neither ImgBurn or Acronis would verify OK the disc image file Right there I started to worry I went and burn an image of a DVD video disc I had from quite some time ago and ImgBurn would fail the verification too The funny thing here is that the movie still fully played and also the Acronis Image would mount as a virtual unit from which I could extract files from and those files would work OK too For example EXEs from installations programs would install the apps OK How can that be Maybe quot a Bit quot was corrupted and thus fail verification but mostly quot work OK quot Shouldn't they be totally useless files At that point I still thought quot well maybe a virus windows service whatever is messing here will reformat and fix quot Well that wasn't so I reformated installed a fresh Windows antivirus NOD Kaspersky Antivir Prevx full scanned with them Spybot full scanned to Hard disks quot chkdsk quot with all the parameters to fix bad sectors unmount etc Still tried to copy the original UNcorrupted TIB image file from the laptop and even from the CD and it wouldn't still pass the validation So I started to think about quot bigger quot corruption here I went and downloaded quot HashMyFiles quot a great free app to hash files Runned it in the laptop and in the desktop and THEY WERE DIFFERENT The hashes didn't match So THAT was it I said Now I tried with smalles files MB and they were the same hash in both locations Tried with MB and the hashes were different Again and to further find what could be going wrong here I booted from outside Windows with Acronis True Image boot disc which runs the same app that in Windows but boots from a standalone CD verified the image file over the very same DVD that restores and verifies OK in the laptop AND IT STILL WOULD FAIL OMG IT WOULD FAIL EVEN WHEN BOOTED FROM A DVD OUTSIDE WINDOWS WITH THE TOTALLY SURE UNCORRUPTED FILE That's where I lost it Now it isn't a Windows problem anymore Even tried switching IDE channels and all the process would still fail So it's not the cable neither... A:Files get randomly CORRUPTED! Hash mismatch, but they *mostly* work. Advanced tests

HI again.

An update... I changed the mobo to a Soyo 6VBA133. The memtest program was giving random errors (sometimes completed OK, sometimes with errors), and so I changed the mobo plus I bought all new memory modules. Here's the thing: it's still the same. Errors come in memory with Memtest86.

Prior to changing the motherboard I left running Prime95 for 24 hours without a hitch, so I'm assuming that the processor is OK too.

Oh, and I also bought a brand new ATX power source.

Men... I just have no words for this.

Please help, thanks

Ever since I downloaded an album online, I have been getting all sorts of popups on my internet, no matter what browser I'm using (though at the moment, it's google chrome). On almost every single page, I have popups come up on both the left and right hands sides of my screen at the bottom and then one at the top right that looks like a page peeling. Also, whenever I attempt to click something to type into it, a popup happens. Along with these, my computer also opens two pages every time I log onto the internet. Any ideas of what I could do to stop this?

Hi
I have just installed ATA 1.6 and using the Lightweight Gateway on all our DC's.

After I have enabled and configured event forwarding I see a lot of "Identity theft using pass-the-hash attack" alerts, and there is way to many for me to believe that we have been hacked/under attack.
Have any of you any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?

I apologize if this has already been addressed. I honestly don't know what I'm doing. My Vista's not playing any of the music files on my computer or my iPod on any music player I use (iTunes, WinAmp, the Rhapsody that came with it), though it plays anything else that's online. Other sounds on the computer are also playing (MSN, AIM, system sounds). What it does exactly is, upon clicking any song in the media library, it shows intention to play it but then stays at 0:00, while recognizing the length of song, name of artist, etc. Did I miss something?

In my past I worked in a music store and took a handful of cd's home everyday to put in my computer, most of them are .WAV about 40 or 50K though I do have 15 or 20K MP3's. Is there a program available to sort through all this mess, and maybe help me remove some of the doubles I have recorded. It's becoming a nightmare to deal with, I have 8 250GB usb drives full of music, I figure if I rip the wav's to MP3 I can put the songs on just on or two harddrives, I just need some software that will let me do it in an orderly fashion. Any help will be really appreciated.

A:Music database for large numbers of songs>60k

you could probably use itunes or windows media player etc to convert them to mp3 format, then sort the library by name/albums, and delete duplicates from there, but makeing sure you click on 'remove from library and computer'...

although keep a backup of the original files while you figure this bit out from the programs just incase it deletes everything there, then delete them when its all good...

and make sure its only reading from teh one folders/drive

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there is a way of making sure that when music is downloaded the volume of all songs are heard at an equal level. Instead of some loud and some soft.
Thanks.
What I mean is that when I go to listen to the downloaded music, some songs sound loud and others can hardly be heard.

A:Downloading music

There are actually some programs that allow you to do that whilst playing the songs back.
It would be virtually impossible to do that at download level since there are too many diffrent machines and formats doing the original recordings.
If you compare volume levels of 2 CD's from the same source you will probably find major differences.
instead look for a program or player that automatically adjusts music level, on playback. Take care of one I remember using some years ago which altered the data affecting the playback in batch mode. I ended up doing a batch job on the wrong files and permanantly altering the volume level which made a total mess of everything.

I am downloading music using the file sharing program 360 Share. When try to play it with Windows Media Player, sometimes the file name is not what i want it to read. Here is a picture of my problem, This is the view of Windows Media Player (these are also the same titles that i got when i downloaded them.)Here are he same songs looking in the My Music Folder, I renamed them When i add music to a playlist in Windows Media Player, it still comes up as the orginal file name that i downloaded. I want to see the renamed files so that i know who it is and that the artist is spelled correctly.Anyone know how to change this? I want to open WMP and read the song's file name as what i changed it to.

I recently had to have my computer repaired due to several viruses and a ton of Spyware and Adware, and when I got it back, the repair guy had installed AVG, Spybot S&D, and Ad-aware SE (all free editions) to help prevent the same problem from happening. Will the programs he installed really help, or should I get more. I got a notice that the AVG Anti-Virus software is outdated, and that I should probably get a different antivirus program. What is the best program that isn't very expensive, and that will work even on a computer using an unregistered version of Windows XP (I do have service pack 2 however)? Any helpful advice would be great. Thanks in advance

I have tried many ways to get the MySpace songs off the profiles to download but no luck. I used to be able to do it with a Firefox plug-in but I don't think it works anymore and can't remember the specific one it worked for. YouTube videos and music is no problem but My Space music is really frustrating. Isn't there any new methods on how to do this other than recording it with a program like Streaming Audio Recorder?

I have tried vdownloader, my Space Grab, Firebug, Free Music Zilla, etc. - none of those work.

And you think its legal? Its not legal to download youtube videos either. Can't assist you with that. . .
If they wanted you to be able to download that stuff they would have put a download link there

Alright, so when I download a torrent persay, it usually downloads through limewire but i somehow messed around and messed it up. So now, it tries to download through itunes....how do I change it so that it downloads back through limewire?

A:Downloading music trouble

Two things:
First: there is no safe way to deal with P2P, and my firm is inundated with calls and computers everyday from people who don't believe me, and thought some free AV program on the web would help them.

Second: the likelihood of pirated data being passed over torrent or Limewire is about 100%, give or take, and I'll answer no question about them.

You have a simple file associations problem, but given the context, I can't condone the process, and won't be helping on this one.

What Is The Best Site To Download Music On My Mp3 Player?

A:cunfued about downloading music

Napster, iTunes. Those are the legal options.

We don't support giving out the illegal options for obivious reasons.

where can you legally download music and what the cheapest site. I have had long discussions with my kids on not using P2P and copyright and people making a living in music and photography - anyway they are now suggesting some sites for music.

something like pepsi, napster, itunes where you pay.
my other consideration would be secruity as i will not allow P2P on any PC here
thanks

I have access to various legal music files. When I donwload them, they arrive as htm. instead of mp3. When trying to open the files, WMP does not recognize the format. The files tries to open to Paint default.
The sites say the problem seems to be on my end.
Is it possible to convert the files, or am I doing something wrong?

Hello. On the Today Show, it was talking about how people can steal identity from certain programs/downloading sites. Does anyone know what programs are safe to download from? Apparently, Lime Wire 5.0 is good and it protects from that, but what about Bearshare? Is bearshare okay?

Thanks!

A:Music Downloading Sites

Quite honestly, you run the risk of infection and other problems using any P2P programs
That is why we recommend against them
I have noticed an increased number of malware post that include Bearshare in their logs

Okay, I just reinstalled WinMX 3.3 on my computer. I can connect fine, I can search for songs fine, but NONE of the songs will download at all. Could this be because I am behind some sort of firewall at college? I just want to download songs quickly (since I am on DSL connection). Is there some "secret" way to get songs to download and bypass this firewall? Please help! Or email me at [email protected]

Howdy,

I have a neighbor who has Windows 98 on his system. He went to the Wal-Mart music download site to download some songs.

The site says that it can download to computers supported by Windows 2000 and Xp.
Is there some sort of download he can get that would enable him to download music from the Wal-Mart site?

This is what he is trying to accomplish.

He wants to download "The Star Spangled Banner" to play at his sons Little League games.

Either a payed or free version.

He could go buy a CD but thought this would be simpler.

Hope I am making sense.
Thanks for your time.
Dennis

A:Downloading Music Using Windows 98

He bought a CD.

I guess he has to upgrade his computer if he wants to buy music on the Internet.

Thanks for looking anyway.
