I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Dell d620 Bios password

No, your problem is not fixable without sending the computer to Dell.
This has been well established on this forum. You will not find the answer here... because there is no answer. The D620 appears to have a problem that only a EEPROM programmer with the proper programming tools, and software, and code books, can fix.

A:Dell Latitude D620 BIOS Password

Short answer: You need the original password.
That unit has been refurbished by a Dell-authorized shop (as all with the 595B are) so the restore discs cannot be used.
All of the suggestions your tried, are known not to work in that model... The D600 and D620 are the most difficult of all Dells to fix. You will likely need to replace the motherboard with one known to work. Most of the boards on eBay have the same problems you have.

If your trying to change a bios setting or Reformat any of the newer Dell Laptop's you may run into this issue! There is an Administrator password you will be prompted for. I believe this is created at the factory and unplugging the bios battery no longer does the trick! I tried many different passwords combos and found that:

<dell> all lowercase and minus the brackets works for a few of the newer Dell Laptops

Good Luck,

A:Dell Bios Admin Password/Inspiron 1720

That makes no sense at all. If it were true then Dell would have to provide the password as part of the information it provides to customers when they buy the laptop. Anything else would subject them to being sued.

I just loaded WIN 7 ULT on a Dell 620. This is a display question. When I have the laptop plugged into the wall the display is nice and bright. When I unplug from the wall the display dims. I do not want the display to dim. Where can I find the setting to say when unplugged from the wall leave the display bright?

I have tried looking in the control panel>hardware and sound>power options> and I set up a custom plan. From research on the net I am supposed to find a brightness slider. I have not been able to find this. Also tried right click on battery icon>power options but again I cannot find a setting that controls monitor brightness.

sometimes it works near enough perfect- i recently uninstalled the alps drivers & seems to work slightly better without drivers but only slightly, i googled & found lots of ppl with similar problems but no real solutions- some people say its some windows updates causing it some people say cut the cable/connection that goes from middle pointer. I read some places that on older dells there was some metal touching trackpad components causing this problem- I dont know whether to take this laptop apart, i dont want to end up causing any further problems. thanks for any help

Remove the keyboard. Clean the keyboard, mouse pad, and visible components with a can of Dust Off or other treated canned air.
Then go to the Dell site, and download the synaptics software, Chipset, and other files.. Disable or remove the old version in the Device Manager, and install the drivers once more.

A:dell latitude d620

No. Only a version from Dell will work with his product key. And the one found by Jelly Bean is the wrong one - it is used on all Dell machines of that model and won't reinstall from the Dell disk. You need to use the number on the sticker on the machine. If his recovery partition is still there, restore using that.

Hi Everyone Ok I did a little research and this is as far as I have got Having bought an OCZ Vertex GB SSD and tried cloning my WinXP install to the new drive having had issues with Hibernate does on D620. Where leave me? TRIM not this available Dell and Sleep and reading that my SSD might degrade over time as WinXP wasnt designed with SSD s in mind I bought and installed Windows Home Premium bit on my Dell Latitude D After that I wanted to make sure that all the latest features were working I had heard about TRIM TRIM not available on Dell D620. Where does this leave me? and so went about seeing if it was doing its thing Most sites described checking to see if Scheduled Defragmenting was turned off and TRIM not available on Dell D620. Where does this leave me? if when a USB pen is plugged in the Readyboost option appears TRIM not available on Dell D620. Where does this leave me? It turns out that Defrag Scheduling was on AND Readyboost is an option I read I should make sure that AHCI was enabled in my BIOS No such option in my BIOS Strange I thought so I checked to make sure I had the latest BIOS available I do A I read furthur that only the Dx models had these options in the BIOS The Dell D chipset is apparently limited to Sata or something So where does this leave me I gather that I may not be able to get TRIM support so is my SSD going to start slowing down Is there anything I can do to either work around this or make sure that the speed I have now will remain a constant Many thanks for your time nbsp

There are no master passwords.. if someone has put a password on the bios which it sounds like there is, the only way to get rid of it is to flash the bios chip, and i wouldn't do it yourself unless you know what your doing, so if you don't get someone who does.

A:Help with Bios pass for dell d620

Good luck. I do not know of any Dell more difficult to fix than a Dell Inspiron d620. It is known as unrepairable on this forum, when an unknown password is the issue. Tell us exactly what you men by "...with a bios pass..."? Did they give you an incorrect password?
The EEPROM that holds the password is not replaceable due to soldering issues, and the programming of it is different than other Dells so that an experienced EEPROM programmer cannot deal with it either. The shorting techniques used to delete other Dell passwords do not work with the D620.

If you can't find Vista audio drivers on the Dell Support site, you may be out of luck and you will have to revert to XP. Check on the Dell site for tips and info for upgrading to Vista. You should have checked this before going to Vista in the first place

Hi, I have a dell latitude d620. My daughter had it a college and the wireless was working fine. She came home this weekend and the wireless and direct connect do not work. When I do an ipconfig /all nothing happens, the radio or the network indicator do not appear in the task bar, however, when I look at the device hardware, the wireless card shows as enable and no issues. Also, the wireless switch on the left side is in the on position but the light does not come on. Any ideas?

I just installed Win7 on my Dell Latitude D620 Laptop. Now some of the functions (scrolling mainly) are not working. I have been unable to find where I can change the settings. In addition, when I click on the screen and, for instance, begin to type, the cursor will randomly move to where the pointer is. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating. Your help is most appreciated.

if the gray/white screen is asking for harddisk password only then you can get the notebook to work with a new harddisk drive.
if it asks for the system or admin password you can go here:
and wait for password or contact dell (make sure you are the legal owner or have the ownership tranfered to you).
if the BIOS setup configuration (which allows you to change the settings in the bios) is disable post back. I can help you with that.

Hi all, great forum you have here...
I have an old(ish) Dell Latitude D620 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU.  The specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz) CPU
2GB DDR2-800 RAM
60GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD
Windows 7 Professional

Am I correct in thinking I can upgrade to any 667Mhz-FSB processor?  SO what would be the fastest processor I can fit (I'm thinking Core 2 Duo 7400 or 7600)?
Looking at the compatible products for the Intel 845GM chipset ( they do, but I thought I'd better check here first before buying.  Would the change from 2MB L2 cache to 4MB affect anything?
Many thanks!

The avgisshx.sys file is indeed from AVG. And the unmountable boot volume means that the boot file has become corrupted or the HDD has failed.
Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. Disk Check Outside Windows (Windows XP) The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools, or WD DataLifeGuardin my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

Hi all

My first thread in a while....

Have a D620 on XP that wont work on some projectors.
For example, it works fine on an NEC model but not a Sanyo.

Things I've tried:

1. Upgrading to latest Intel video drivers
2. Lowering the resolutions.
3. Found some infor about intellisoft software that can cause the problem - dont have it.
4. Upgraded BIOS and Chipset.

Any ideas on what to try?

On the Sanyo, when pressing the FN F8 key, the screen flickers as if its trying to connect but then nothing, just a normal blue projector screen.

My first guess would be theres a problem with the fan and its going to need replaced.obviously its not supposed to get that hot where you have to put it near an a/c to cool it would be easier and cheaper just to replace the fan then get a desk with a fan.

My company IT department gave me this laptop with some kind of special software for connecting to Wi-Fi (some Intel program; not driver). All my drivers are installed.
Windows does not recognize any Wi-Fi network. The program detects networks, but it won't let me introduce the passwords. I wrote the password in Notepad and copy-pasted it but it didn't wanted to connect.
Please help me, tell me which drivers should I install or what should I do.

A:Dell Latitude D620 Virus Problem.

Hello -

oscer1 tried to help you by showing you what we need before you post.

However, if you do not have administrator access to McAfee, removal efforts will be made very difficult, as many of the steps we do require resident protection to be disabled, which requires admin access.

Do not install more than one AV at a time, though. Also, you can do better, in my view, than AVG. Try avast!, Avira or Microsoft's Security Essentials.

All that said.....

A:DELL d620 wont complete POST

From the description you provided, i suspect a hardware failure. In most cases it could be either RAM or HDD . Follow the below steps and report the result in next reply.
Warning- Touch your hand in an unpainted metal part to discharge static electricity before removing any component.
Here is the link to the service manual of your laptop -
1 ) Remove the hard disk and check if the system can enter in to the BIOS. Refer page 18 of the manual if you don't know how to remove the HDD.
2 ) Check if there is an additional RAM in the DIMM socket B which is located in the bottom part. Remove it and check if the system works. Refer page 23 if you are in doubt.
3 ) If the above steps didn't helps, you need to take out the RAM in DIMM slot A which is located under the keyboard. Refer page 22 carefully if you are in doubt. Now remove and reinsert the RAM module several times to resolve any potential contact issues.
Reply after doing the above steps.

For a start, download and burn to dvd a Kaspersky Rescue disk ISO. Boot with the dvd. It will load itself into RAM only; then go on-line and update itself. After-which it will scan your hard drive fully and deal with more or less "anything" it finds. It's built around a Linux variant; and will not install itself to the hard drive .The utility is free here: some support info here: with that and post back with the results. There are other utilities (all free and regularly recommended here) to run after you have run the Kaspersky disk. It's likely that JohnW will drop across here at some stage. He is one of several here very up on dealing with assorted pests... Wise to pay heed to his thoughts and those of one or two others too. All are well versed in dealing with these pests...

You should try some steps.

1) Update the bios.

2) Do a system reset by removing the battery and AC adapter, no power to the unit, hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

3) Then replace the battery and AC to the unit.

4) Now turn on and observe whether you get a charging battery. Check in control panel under power and see what the battery is doing.
