Preferred Solution: Error Message: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Error Message: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system

During Setup, it will ask you if you need any extra drivers such as SCSI (or SATA in your case). If so, press F6. Now you are in trouble, because SATA drivers come on a floppy and new(er) Dells don't have a floppy anymore. Borrow a floppy-drive from another PC and install that in your Dell.
Setting up with the Dell disks, I'm not sure if they are RESTORE-disks or full XP-disks.
That may cause another problem.

Hi.. whenever I enter my windows xp home edition cd it loads up then it says "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system" also when I try to log onto my windows account it logs in then immediatly logs off so I cant do anything on the comuter but enter the cd and the cd cant detect hard disk drives. I think my computer is a foxconn type sorry im totally clueless

A:Error Message:Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system

You may need to press F6 during setup and load the hard disk controller drivers. You can download these from the Foxconn site if you know the correct motherboard model. have you registered windows XP? When you say logon do you enter a password? You need to supply a little bit more details so we can help. Cheers.

Error Message:Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system but with acer aspire t650 what can i do

A:Error Message:Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system

Does it have a sata drive?? If so you have to insert the sata driver by pressing F6 at the beginning of the windows install!!

The needed driver should be on a cd and/or floppy supplied with the pc!!

If you dont have them, then the acer webiste is the place to look!!!!

Help Please

Im in big trouble. I was going to format my hard drive of my PC when i discovered that my system did not recognize it. This is really weird because i was using it a year now and it was working fine. The message i get is this "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system".

A:"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system".

You need to have a floppy with the proper driver then press F6 at the beginning of the Windows install process. With the proper drivers, Windows will find your hard drive (probabyl a SATA one) & will allow you to use it as a boot drive.

ps. please use the search function as this topic has been discussed quite a few times.

I'm trying to reinstall windows xp on a dell xps 400 desktop. When I put the cd in I press any key to boot from cd windows loads and then when I hit enter to enter installtion, it says "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer". I don't know what to do. Anybody know how I can install windows? Usually its simple and I delete the old partition and create new but this doesn't seem to be the case this time.

A:Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed

I have an idea, but it's an ugly, lose all your data, all or nothing sort of affair. Wipe one drive, then try to install it separately. If that works, install the second drive after the system is up and running as a "volume" (storage drive). You did say you didn't need RAID.
If there's malware involved, sometimes a repair install of XP isn't enough to restore the system to it's former glory.

Plan "B" would be to attempt an install on a brand new, or clean drive. This is best applied if you can borrow a spare drive, at least pricewise.

Keep in mind that there may be bits and broken pieces of the original RAID software thwarting your efforts. You should download the manual for this board before diving into the project full bore, as the book will explain the proper boot sequence and drive mode settings in BIOS

A:Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

it sounds like it did a partial wipe or partial format and the current layout of the drive is completely invalid. That or somehow the hard drive actually got unplugged. Unfortunately, if the windows XP installation utility itself can't recognize the hard drive, you may have to take it out in order to re-format it.
One thing you can try however is to download and create an image of Bart PE and burn it to a CD then boot into it on that computer via the boot menu which you access by pressing a whatever key the initial screen says when you turn your computer on. Usually it's F10,11,or 12. Then open the command prompt from bart pe's start menu and type chkdsk C: /r /v
that will check for any messed up and scrambled parts of the hard drive's various parts including the data itself and the indexes of the data and possibly even the MBR. That may make it recognizable but likely not bootable.
Otherwise, you can get a SATA/IDE to USB combo adapter for quite cheap online or at a local computer store and plug the hard drive into another computer then use disk management to see if it's initialized, how it's partitioned, and format it however you want.

Now it is saying Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. I am not that hardware savvy these days. Any suggestions on what to do next?

Boot into Setup (Bios) and see if your HDD is listed there. If not, then it has either become unplugged or it has failed.

RTFM!

It tells you how to set up your bios to recognize/run Sata drives as IDE. In your case, unless running Vista, you would want to operate as IDE mode.

Conversely, the manual also covers how to configure your Sata drives for operation as AHCI or in Raid mode.

The manual, should you have lost it or whatever, is freely available at Asus.

I bought a used laptop and the guy I bought it from told me he formatted the HD to get rid of his stuff. I was fine with that. Now, when I put my XP Pro in to install I get that message when I click to install the disk (on the screen where it asks to install, repair, or exit). I have had this before. I went to BIOS and I could not find a place to change the HD type. I plugged the HD into my desktop external enclosure and it assigned to J: and I was able to see it. It was in FAT32 format and I changed it to NTFS just to see, but it is giving the same error.

You have no XP CD? How did you plan to reinstall Windows? (Wiping is only a good idea if you don't plan to use the drive again. It has destroyed some drives before so they couldn't be used.) Do you have XP or not? It's not too clear from your post.

If you have a SATA drive, you need to use a workaround. XP is too old to support a lot of modern hardware.

So, you have the Sata drive hooked to the 3rd or 4th port ?

I have just replaced the IDE Harddisk on a compaq laptop with a new one. Trying to do a fresh install of Windows XP, before I can format this new disk, I get the following message...

" Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3 "

Going into the bios, I dont find anywhere that mentions SATA as in a number of forums advise to disable that in order for the computer to detect the IDE disk.

Anyone familiar with this to help with a solution?

all responses appreciated

A:Solved: Install XP: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your compute

You need your drivers for IDE/SATA depending on which it is, go to your motherboard manufacter's website and get the Storage or Sata or IDE driver from there. There should be something abnout a floppy drive and you will need to download that driver and put it on a floppy. You will then Press F6 before that screen pops up and let it see the driver and it should work

A:Setup did not find any hard disk drivrs installed in your system!

Firstly you need to check on the initial boot screen or in the bios to make sure bios sees your drives, but I think the problem is that you have a sata hard drive and some boards will not see these drives unless you install drivers.

What you need to do is go onto the site that made your mobo, or use your setup cd (from another computer) And find the sata drivers - they will not be the windows drivers but a small driver utility that you can extract to a floppy disk - when you extract the drivers you should have several files, one of them will be called something like textsetup.oem or something similar, then you know you have the right one, once you have extracted these to floppy you can run the windows cd again from the computer your uinstalling windows to (If you dont have a floppy you need to attach one temporarily) and as XP is loading, insert the floppy).

Now at the first blue screen of XP setup it will be loading drivers at the bottom of the screen, and it will say press F6 or F* (one of the two) to install aditional drivers, press this key, then it will read the floppy and give you the option to install your boards sata drivers - if there are several drivers install them all one by one.

After you have done this setup will continue and it will find your drive.

A:Get "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

This is one of the most common problems we see here on TechSpot!
What you need to do is press F6 for third-party scsi or raid controller just as the Windows install is starting. You then need to insert your SATA driver disk.
If you do not have one then you will need to go to the Dell website and download the correct one for your PC and put it on to a floppy disk.
This should get all working.

A:Solved: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer."

If you have the driver files, you should be able to slipstream them to your Windows XP disk.

Download and install nLite (http://www.nliteos.com/download.html). This program allows you to add to your current Windows installation disk such things as Windows updates, Service Packs and hardware drivers (including SATA and SCSI).

The actual usage is pretty self-explanatory. Let us know how it goes.

I have a HP DV6400 notebook running MS XP PRO. Keyboard driver appears corrupt. Keyboard works in BOIS screens but not at login window. BT wireless mouse works so all I can do is shutdown, cannot type with mouse. Called HP support and they were useless. Read through all your threads, great info but none of the suggestions worked (use USB keyboard, etc). Concluded I need to repair the OS.

Booted from XP disk in CD/DVD drive, hit ?R? for repair (keyboard worked) and then received error; ?Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.? The only fix I found on line was to use a bootable floppy to install hdd drivers, see http://www.windowsxphome.windowsrein...exfullpage.htm.

I will need to go buy a USB floppy drive and floppies (in 2008 ? really?) in order to follow their solution.

Do you have a better suggestion?

A:set up did not find any hard disk drives installed

Enter the BIOS at startup and set the drive controller mode to IDE or ATA instead of SATA, turn AHCI or native command queuing off if there are such settings, save the settings and retry.

Else you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD :
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/
Get the sata drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website.

O.K. This should not be too much of a problem and one that occurs regularly, but - I have created NTFS partitions on two hard drives installed in my computer. So, Partition Magic knows the two disks are there.

Why then do I get the message "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer" when I boot up with the Windows XP setup disk?

When I boot up disk references are briefly displayed. When I go into setup, the disks are listed under "hard disk drives" as "1st drive VIA VT6420 1st HDD" and "2nd drive VIA VT6420 2nd HDD".

What do I need to do to fix this?

I thought a clean Windows XP install would be straightforward.

Ok Im confused.
Please clarify a thing or two.

According to the site it comes with XP.
Did it?

In your post you state that you are trying to put SP2 on it.
Is this a XP disk that has SP2 built into it?
If it is and you already have XP running you wont need that.

Please clarify and we will get you sorted out.

I just purchased a full version of XP Pro, and am trying to reformat my hard drive with this (I was told on a forum about 9 mos ago that my registry was seriously screwed and this was the only option). I received a "unmountable boot volume" error on our laptop.
We have a Dell Vostro laptop with Windows XP

When I was trying to fix the boot error, I changed the BIOS Settings to load from CD first.
Then I loaded the Windows XP CD and attempted to run the Recovery, however, I received a message saying "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed..."

What should I do next to try to fix this issue?
We hope the hard drive is not dead because we will have a lost quite a bit of information. I will appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.

A:Did not find any hard disk drives while trying to fix unmountable boot volume error

The hard drive is the cause of the error. If you can't afford to lose the information, remove the hard drive and put it aside. Install a new drive and re-install the version of Windows you were using... Information on the bad drive might be recoverable by placing it into an external USB enclosure and accessing the files that way

I am attempting to perform a clean install of Windows XP Home Edition using a CD. Everything seems to run perfectly fine, until I get to the step asking for me to press 'Enter' if I wish to continue with the Setup.

When I do so, it leads me to a screen stating:

"Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disl-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program."
The strange thing is, I've opened up the laptop, and the hard disk is there, connected, and as far as I can tell, receiving power.

The manufacturer-supplied disc was either lost or non-existent.
If it helps any, my machine happens to be a Compaq Presario v3530TU Notebook.

I have a computer with an Abit KV8pro mother board and it has a Samsung 500GB SATA hard drive installed along with an IDE CD drive. I am trying to load XP Pro from a genuine XP pro cd. It boots up then says it finds no hard drive. This is a new hard drive with nothing on it.

I had set this computer up in the past with a different SATA drive using Windows 98 and had no problems with the drive being found. No driver floppy came with the Abit motherboard.

I'm not one to ask for help, but I'm stuck!

I have a HP laptop that I bought from Walmart three years ago, and it had everything pre-installed (no XP disk). It has been running very slowly, so I wanted to reinstall XP to make it run like new, so I put in another, working XP disk in and restarted the computer.

When I was at the disk's blue screen, I hit enter to install XP (to reformat the drive). However, it says there are no Hard Disk Drives installed, and I can't do anything.

Now, I don't know what to do... any help is, well, helpful.

A:obtaining operating system (XP) setup disk-pre installed sofware

I think HP are behaving badly here and you might approach your local Trading Standards office about them, providing they're operating from a UK address.

That said, however, the only feasible alternative is to buy an XP CD, format, install and activate with the new Product Key to give your brother a fully legal and supported OS. The other way round this is to post details of his problems - why does he want to format? Someone here will help.

If he only wants to partition, there is software that can do this without losing data. Have a look in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>COmputer Management>Disk Management and see what the present partition arrangements are. HP may have left a small partition to store data which responds to their recovery disks.

I'm trying to see if a particular program was installed on a system running Windows 7 without it being booted up. I don't see this program listed under Program Files or Program Files (x86), but I do see something listed under ProgramData that has an executable.
I talked to the vendor, and he stated that this might be what I'm looking for, but that it would show up in the installed programs.
Thank you.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 (2 yrs old) with Vista Home Premium, 32bit, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4GB RAM, and 280 GB hard disk with 70% free space. On several occasions, recently, my system stopped responding. I don't get a blue screen, but I do get a message indicating that the hard disk cannot be found. Each time I run checkdisk, the only message that might be of concern is "49 reparse records processed. The other messages are: "0 unindexed files processed", and "usn journal verification comple". Once I restart my system, it boots up just fine and runs okay - until the next episode.

What could be causing my system to lose communication with my hard disk?
Thanx in advance for your thoughts.

Found this problem yesterday when I tried doing a clean install of Win7 due to virus-like Windows behaviour. I've had no issues previously with any HDD's. I have 2 HDD's, one internal partitioned into C and D drive, the other external as F drive (by personal choice). My system partition and recovery partition are undiscoverable in Windows' Disk Management tool, by Windows Setup, and it seems Device Manager. They are seen by Windows Explorer though. Can anyone please help with this BAFFLING situation?

Hi,
I am using XP and I get the following message on booting up :-

"....:qttask.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk1\DR1 "

When I click Continue a number of times the message disappears and I can use the computer.

I don't know what the problem is and its effect. I would certainly like to cure the problem and would be grateful of any help.

Thanks

A:Error message - Hard Disk qttask.exe No Disk

Best to stop it starting up with XP. Go Start>Run and type in msconfig. Click on the Startup tab and scroll down to the entry for qttask.exe and then untick it. Click Apply and OK and the system will restart. When it comes back, tick the "don't show this message again" box and hit OK. You won't be deleting QuickTime and can still start it when needed.

More likely the hard drive is dead. They are pretty well bolted in and hard to come loose. Is it really a Dell with Windows XP? Maybe a good excuse to go buy a new HP.

A:Error on Hard Disk 2 message

Hi tipcom1,
This happens when when you run Norton DiskDoctor in your system, maybe the Zipdrive (Floppy Drive) is turned on in your system BIOS, Try to turn on the Zipdrive and then restart the system and then try to run the same Program in your system.

You can go to the system BIOS by Press the F2 when you restart the system and look for the Diskette Drive there and then turn it off

Hope that helps.

You probably need a sata driver for Xp cd to see the hard drive. When you first start setup you will see "press F6 to insert driver"...driver should be on floppy disk and probably came with motherboard or is downloadable from motherboard mfgr site.

I am running Windows Vista on a HP laptop that I bought in July 2008 (Windows was pre-loaded), and I haven't downloaded any additional service packs.

My computer was running fine, I hadn't installed any new software recently, or installed any new hardware. When a program was running a bit slow, I went ahead and restarted just to clear up any problems. When it restarted, it tried to boot at least 5 times, and gave me the error message that it couldn't find the operating system.

One of my friends has told me, and from what I can gather, that I need to try to boot from a disk, and then reset the MBR. However, I can't find where to get a boot disk from, and what exactly I should do next.

Any help???

A:During Boot Error Message: 'Can't find Operating System'.

The problem you're experiencing is indeed related to the MBR is you have uninstalled and installed software and hardware (which, I would like to get a list of so I can further elaborate).

Here's a good website for bootdisks.

Also, when booting press F12 and boot into your HDD instead of your CD/DVD or Network (if they're set for some..strange reason..).

I was advised by a computer tech to buy a new hard drive because of issues I had with my HP pavillion s3330.
After installing I got a non-system disk error message.
After going into the BIOS to make sure it was booting my HP recovery cd from the the right drive, I ran a diagnostics test and after finding no problems an error message came up at the bottom saying - Testing: BOOT PATH, Error code: BIOHD-3.

I consulted HP who said I need to create a partition for the software to be installed to.
If that is the problem then can anybody assist me with this as I have no clue.

By the way, I'm using Vista home premium.

Thanks,

A:Non-system disk or disk error with new hard drive

Have you tried to run the recovery disks again? They should automatically put a partition on the hard drive.

If it still doesn't work then there's usually one of two different possibilities:
- bad recovery disks
- other bad hardware in the system

I'd suggest running these free bootable diagnostics first: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Then, if those tests pass, contact HP to return the defective recovery disks and get a new set.

U mean F10 and then F9 for defaults.Tried that didn't worked.

A:Re: "Hard Disk - (3F0) BootDevice not found" Error Message

Hello,  I'll be making a post here to show you how to troubleshoot the Hard Disk (3F0) error message.  3F0 can be caused by 3 things 1. Bad hard drive or partition structure, erase the entire hard drive then use HP recovery discs to attempt reinstall of the OS and all partitions. 2. Bad hard drive data cable that connects it to the motherboard, replace the cable 3. Bad sata controller on the motherboard replaces the motherboard or laptop.   Now, the first step, is to test the Hard Drive out in the BIOS if you can get into it.  You will need to boot up the notebook and press F10. If you can get into the BIOS you will need to run the self-test. Here is a document showing you how to run the test. If you can't get into the BIOS I would suggest removing the HDD and then try getting into the BIOS again. Once you remove the HDD boot the notebook up again and press F10. If you can get into the BIOS, then the HDD is bad.  Here is a video showing you how to remove the HDD:  Another step you can take is removing the HDD and testing it out in a different notebook. If you receive the same error message on a different notebook then we will know the culprit is the HDD.  Now, if the HDD comes back OK, I would suggest calling HP @8004746836 and see what options they have on replacing or repairing the notebook.  In most notebooks the Hard Drive data cable and the SATA cables are usually built in cables that cannot be replaced unless you replace the entire notebook.  If you guys have any questions at all please let me know.   THX

I hope I'm in the right forum, this could be a hardware issue. I have a brand new HP DV6000 laptop w/Vista installed. (I couldn't get it with XP) I purchased an identical hard drive & swapped them. When I try to install XP it gets to the point where it asks do you want to install? When I hit enter I get a screen telling me setup cannot continue because setup did not find any hard drives installed. I have another HP DV6000 with XP Pro so I tried that hard drive but as soon as it tries to boot it blue screens with a fatal system error & wants to reboot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The computer is under warranty...right?  So, that is where you need to go for help...the manufacturer Lenovo.
I think the Windows message is legit. Scam messages would ask you to contact the scammer by phone, etc.

Hi Guys Firstly I SECTOR INVALID DISK HARD BOOT Message - help!! Error am apologising that this is so long but I was not sure what info you needed SORRY Can you tell I am new to this I purchased an EI system laptop from pc world a few years ago with a year warranty During the time i had it i had to have hard drives and cd dvd drives So when it started running really help!! Error Message - HARD DISK BOOT SECTOR INVALID slow even after I restored to factory settings I bought a new dell from pc world and let the warranty lapse on the other Then a friend of mine wanted to learn computing and I said she could do this on my old one I started up the machine and it worked ok but slow I had some pictures on there I didn't want to lose and wanted to put them on a disk but my disk drive was playing up again so another friend of mine told me to disable my internal cd drive and use my external drive I did this and when I switched the machine on it came up with the following message HARD DISK BOOT SECTOR INVALID - PRESS H TO RETRY HARD DISK ANY OTHER KEY FOR FLOPPY I knew something was wrong as it was ok before I disabled the CD drive or was that just a coincidence I decided the best thing to do was a full system recovery However when I did that it would only go so far and then come up with PROBLEM IN EXTRACTING PROCESS FILE WINDOWS ING MDMZYXEL ING I pressed and it would go a bit further and come up with another file that it could not extract Eventually it took me bask to the original error screen I tried again this time it didn't even enter the recovery mode it just came up with tstsetup sif is corrupt or missing status I tried again and it did the same but with different files this time The next time i tried it it went back to the recovery mode and did the same as before It seems to alternate between these two problems I presumed that the cd was corrupt and I was going to buy a new one but the only place i can find them from is telling me that it is an update a cd that they will supply and it can only be used with the system recovery CD that was supplied with the PC Obviously if mine is corrupt will this work Also I am confused as I have been told that my hard disk may have failed so there it is point in buying the cd's I don't understand how it would fail when I only disabled the drive My operating system is windows xp home edition Sorry again for the novel Joanne

A:Error message "Disk Boot Failure, Insert system Disk and press enter" on first build

The first thing to do would be to get a new data cable for the herd drive and see if that fixes it, they are nice and cheap nowadays.

my desktop is Dell Dimension 8400. I replaced the SATA with a new one (seagate). The computer recognised the HD in both BIOS and chkdisk. I partitioned it to 2 NTFS parts, and set the primary active (used PQMAGIC, a very old version back to year 2000). Then I run boot from CDROM, and windows setup showed "SETUP DID NOT FIND ANY HARD DISK INSTALLED IN YOUR COMPUTER. ... SETUP CANNOT CONTINUE, PRESS F3 TO QUIT SETUP".

I don't know how many times I have got this message. Can anyone help me please. Thanks a lot.

A:windows setup cannot find installed HD

Have you tried copying the Sata disk drivers to a floppy/cd and pressing F6 just after the setup starts... remember that windows needs this extra drivers to "see" the disk.

I can't vouch for chkdsk, but the Bios would see the disk regardless if it could access it or not.

Hello Gurus!

I am loading Server 2003 on my server. I just bought Segate SCSI U320, its 73gig SCSI HD. I did Ctrl+A >>selected Disk Utility>>Selected my HD & formatted it. I went back into Array Configuaration Utilities & Initialized the disk & Rebooted. Once booted it finds the HD and then goes to the CD rom to load windows Server 2003. I hit F6 to load the drivers (not sure what SCSI drivers to load but I think SCSI 2960 drivers) The floppy was in and it took the drivers and then next thing you know it says:
Setup did not find the HD installed on your PC. I had to hit F3 to quite.

How can I resolve this issue. Am I downloading wrong SCSI Drivers? If yes what kind should I get and how do I know which one to get for that specific HD (ST373307lw)

I was using my computer and it rebooted (I didn't reboot it) and when it came back on, I got this message:

"Invalid system disk, replace the disk and then press any key."

I have a lot of data on the disk and do not want to lose it. It is a SATA hard drive 500 GB and I am using Windows 7 Ultimate as my operating system. One other thing, prior to my system crashing, Windows 7 had been doing an update in the background as I was working on a Word file and printing on some DVD's with my printer.

any help or advice would be appreciated.

A:Invalid system disk error message using Windows 7 Ultimate

Make sure you don't have any external drives plugged in and make sure you're booting from the correct drive if there's more than one installed.

Put the drive into another machine and do a backup of your files. You should have everything backed up on a regular basis, when things like this happen you'll wish you had one.

After you're all backed up, try running check disk on the drive using the Windows recovery console.

Hi everyone.

Recently, I've had problems with my computer running Windows 7 64-bit SP1. It took a long time to get from Starting Windows to my desktop. And it was extremely slow when using the computer. It took forever to open a folder or a file. This morning, I switched on my computer and I got this error message at boot:

3rd Master Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace

I'm guessing my hard drive is damaged? Any way of repairing the hard drive? What are the next steps I should take? And in the event that it can't be repaired, any way to salvage the files inside?

Thank you for reading and hope you can help!

A:Error message at boot : Hard Disk:SMART Status Bad, Backup and replace

Back up the drive and replace it. It may run long enough for you to get your data off of it. I would recommend that you put a fresh install of Windows on your new drive. Yours is probably corrupt from the bad drive. I would just back up important data anyway, never mind the programs. You'll need to reinstall them anyway.

There's no real way to fix the drive, and even if you could, it would be uneconomical. Throw it away.
