Preferred Solution: Alienware won't load past XP load screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Pay more attention to your typing...

Your going to have to strip down the system to bare minimum hardware. Set the bios to failsafe defaults, use on-board video if you have it. Remove any USB devices and any add-in PCI cards like a NIC, sound card and use only 1 stick of RAM for the Windows fresh install

Computer just turned off automatically today and it will not load past the begining load screen with the Alien Head load screen where you can press f2 and enter setup or f12 to boot options. I cannot load safe mode or remove the battery as it does not have any place to access it.

Any fans running, any post beeps? Your laptop does not have a CMOS battery. Try removing the chargeable battery and power adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in just the power adapter and try powering up the machine again.

A:Installed Windows Service Pack 3 Now Windows won't load past Windows Boot Load Screen

Hi sirdanceal0t,
I had a similar problem when Windows XP SP3 was released it was only designed for Intel processors, so if you have a AMD processor it will cause your system not to load, if you are running a AMD processor if i were you try and get back to the System Restore Point or if that fails reimage your pc and just before installing SP3 looks for the patch/fix for your processor model, then install SP3 and it should all be fine.

On the other hand if you have a Intel processor i woulldn't know what to advise.

I read all the responses to the exact question as mine as well as similar questions, none are applicable, as not even Safe Mode will load past black screen with "Safe Mode" in each corner, and at the top "Microsoft (R) Windows (R) (Build 7601:Service
Pack 1)". Thankfully, i had just recently backed up most of my files! I want to get it working so I can wipe it clean and get rid of it. Please help, thanks!

Hi, need some help with my Windows Vista laptop. When I boot the computer, it loads fine up to the welcome screen... then it just hangs there and never goes away. I tried to boot in safe mode, but once everything loads, it all freezes up - I can't click on any icons or the start menu or anything. When I pull up the task manager, the window 'stays' on the screen creating multiple copies of itself behind one another and I just can't do anything with it...

Anybody have any idea why this is happening or what I can do to stop it?

Thanks in advance.

I have a Dell Dimension E-520 with Windows XP SP2 installed. I had a virus detected and opted to clean it. After the PC was shut down and turned back on it comes up to the welcome screen with my user account. When I select the user it says "loading personal settings" then almost immediately says "closing network connections" and returns to the welcome screen. Have tried Safe mode with administrator, same behavior also tried last known good configuration same behavior. Any suggestions?

If Safe Mode works but Safe Mode with Networking doesn't work then that would suggest to me that the problem may lie with the network adaptor driver. You could try reinstalling it.

A:Windows 7 won't load past welcome screen

if it setup to a proxy sever that could be dangerous in it self Proxy severs attach to male ware and that sort of thing. Do you run any AV and mal ware Scanners before this happen.

You can try to see if you have a Recovery partition and perform a Startup Repair. Reference : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-windows-with-windows-startup-repair/

Hard Drive Manufacturers have a hard drive diagnostic tool but I need the manufacture of the HD

You can try to boot up Safe Mode with Command Prompt and use this command sfc /scannow

Windows 7 Home Basic, in a HP DM1, AMD E-350, 4gb RAM, 320 GB HDD.

Last played a movie using HDMI. Returned to use it a few hours later and it took forever to load. Once it did, it took me to an unfamiliar home page.

Turns out I was logged in to a temporary profile. I found my files but did not dare move them yet. Tried F8 and then startup repair. (It said i attached a device and should disconnect and then restart) Then I tried a regedit fix (HKLM .. profiles). After that I cant seem to login even in safe mode. Got a very short message (fatal error) in a BSD.

Help will be greatly appreciated.

I've been having trouble with my laptop recently. Basically I can turn it on and everything is fine but it sort of gets "stuck" at the "Welcome" screen; the little HP icon glows from dark to light but it won't take me to the login screen. I've tried System Repair and System Recovery but both of those options have not fixed the problem. What can I do to fix this problem? I have all my personal files on an external harddrive so if I need to wipe it clean I have no problem doing that.

Hello,

Recently, after working fine with no visible problems, i boot my computer up today to see that it will not load past the vista green bar screen. Instead it will sit there for around 15 with the bar still moving and suddenly reboot. I have searched many places for answers to this question and did what some sites recommended, here is what i've found so far.
-Cant boot into safe mode. Always stops at crcdsk.sys or something like that

When inserting my vista disk...

-Startup repair says it cannot repair the problem

-System restore doesnt recognize any of my save points and tells me i have none

-Windows re installation doesnt recognize any drivers or OS and is left blank asking me to insert a CD with the proper information

I have also tried removing one piece of Ram at a time (have 2 2GB sticks) and booting, no luck there either.
Any ideas on what to try next?

My brother uses an old Windows XP Media Center, which has been running fine for about 3 years now. The last time I remember dusting inside the desktop was about a year ago.

Just yesterday, however, it refuses to operate. I would turn it on, and everything seems fine. However, it gets to the screen where you see the Microsoft logo, with the loading bar right below it (it's the screen right before you see the Welcome screen w/ all the users), and then suddenly the blue screen pops out for 1/2 a second, and the PC restarts.

I let it restart for about 7 times; crashes at the same exact spot. I tried to do a full recovery, but it failed with an error of some sort.

Right now, I'm assuming somehow the hard drive died... But is there any way to confirm? Thanks for any help!

I have a friend with exactly the same problem oldtoyboy - so I'll watch this thread with great interest!

I searched the forum and found this thread... but as Safe Mode does exactly what you're describing, I'm in a similar situation.

I feel it is a virus as it has occurred to two identical computers my friend is running on her home network... too coincidental and as her answer to "do you have antivirus?" was "I think so..." I'm not sure as to her level of protection before I came into the picture.

I think we'll need a virus boot disk (I think PC-Cillin used to do one years back)

Well, I tried to run FC2 but all I end up with is the small splash screen, I click on it and it wont respond. I heard a lot of things about solutions, but most of them were for certain graphics cards. I did a little more searching and found that Intel might be lying about their game playability of their chipsets (Yes, I have a crappy chipset *Intel GMA 3100 G33*) but someone said it could run Far Cry 2, and they linked it from the Intel website. All my drivers are up to date. I am not sure what to do right now...

A:Far Cry 2 Wont Load Past Splash Screen?

Hello Madandfrustrate,
Go to this site and it will give you an idea as to whether you can run this game or not.

Can You Run It

FC2 is very intense on the graphics, so its a coin flip, if Intel say it will run the game, then it should.
If you get it running, you will have to turn everything down so much that it will not be a great gaming experience.
I have seen Videos of FC2 running on your chipset on YouTube, so it should be possible.

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I have a 2 month old Dell Inspiron 660 running Windows 8.1.that came with windows 8 installed but I upgraded to 8.1 off the internet. Everything worked okay until I did a scan and cleaning with ccleaner. Pretty soon startup was very slow going from the Dell screen to the lock screen to the password screen to the windows welcome screen but windows would eventually load. Now the startup only goes to the welcome screen. That little circle of dots starts spinning and keeps on spinning but Windows never loads. Did I erase some registry files when I cleaned it? I got on Microsoft's live chat support who said they could fix it for 99 bucks but I don't have a dollar much less 99. Does anybody know how I could fix this for free myself?

I also wanted to know how load Dos from win 8.1 and how to boot win 8.1 in safe mode.

Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all!

Hi Breedlove, Welcome to Eight forums.

Found a link for you. Step By Step How to Solve Windows 8.1 and 8 Black Screen Issue upon boot | Virtualization blog

In short, you have to go to Safe mode and disable the graphic card and monitors and then reboot. If this resolves, fine. Else, update the drivers for your graphic card.

I turned off my computer yesterday then turned it on again and switched it off again using the power switch repeatedly yesterday in a span of a few mins. I then went out for a day and when i came back home and tried to boot my computer again vista wouldnt load the login screen. I changed my loading screen and it gets past that alright but when it gets to the logon screen everything just turns black?

A:Win7 x64 doesn't load past welcome screen.

For starters you should not run Avast and MSE together. The earlier news that they might run together were later withdrawn.

Next I would disable all startup programs that are not absolutely needed - and that are probably all except the AV program.

A:XP doesn't load past login screen

Hi sho0 and welcome to TSF !

Well if you can borrow a floppy drive from a friend, you may have to load the motherboard sata drivers at the beginning of XP install so that it can see your drive. Should be a message telling you to press F6 to load sata/raid floppy.

Check in the bios that your sata drive is seen correctly. Refer to your motherboard manual to determine which sata plug is the sata 1 and plug your hard drive there if it isn't already.

If you ever manage to boot back in windows, uninstall your game, uninstall all CD/DVD emulation software you can have : clonecd, daemon tools, alcohol, ... following the complete removal instructions from their website (sometimes they leave some drivers behind). Then reboot and try reinstalling C&C. Recent games protections are very intrusive and can cause conflicts with those other programs. Even if daemon tools is not running at the moment, its emulated CD/DVD device is installed on your computer.

Next time you decide to delete a bunch of things in your registry without knowing what it is, make sure you have a backup solution first. Once you'll get this computer back to live be sure to check those links :
http://www.techsupportforum.com/arti...ard-drive.html
http://www.techsupportforum.com/arti...e-another.html
Any of these would have saved your butt today

And next time you install XP, make sure the system partition gets the c: volume letter. Unplug all other drives during the install if needed, leaving only your hard drive and the CD drive. This should solve possible drive letter issues with some softwares.

Hi, and HELP...with Vista (Dell XPS430 desktop)

Initially the system would not boot, tried various things, managed to get into safemode and do a backup since the weekend (Phew!) Now the system still won't load, it's done 'fixes' chkdsk's and restored to the last restore point, but all to no avail... so now I get the normal login screen, and either I click on my user picture, and I get the pic's dissappear, just leaving the background screen, and it hangs there... and sometimes it does the same, but it allow me to put my password in before it hangs...

Any ideas of how to get out of this without a factory restore would be most welcomed...
Thanks - G

A:wont turn on past XP load screen

hello jscar,

now this sounds like driver issue

what i want you to do is when you start your system (push the start button ) start tapping the (F8) key

now your system should bring up a screan that says

safemode
safemode with network
safemode with command prompt

this first time we co here i want you to select (safemode) / your system should start !! it will be running with generic drivers so everything may look all distorted (suppose to )

if your system dose load thenyou will have a few questions ( just say yes )

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

then get back to us

A:Vista Won't load (past loading screen)

First thing to do is back up the files you don't want to lose.
You could try a system restore to a time before this happened or if that doesn't work
Set your boot order to CD first, put your install CD in and do a
repair install

All of the sudden my laptop has been acting odd. As of today, it will not load windows past the welcome screen. I have windows7 and have ran antivirus and adware scans and no major issues showed up. Mbam scan would never completely scan when I would run it. Also today when I turned my laptop on, windows prompted to recover to a previous save point to fix errors, that also failed. Could anyone give me some advice or insight as to what may be going on? Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Dell laptop will not load past welcome screen.

Can you boot to Safe Mode? If so, I'd try to run SFC. You could also run chkdsk and let it check for and attempt repair of any bad sectors. If you can't boot to Safe Modem, find another Windows 7 computer 32 or 64 bit the same as yours, make a repair disc, and boot from it. To make a repair disc, click Start -> Control Panel -> Backup and restore -> Create system repair disc. Insert a blank CD-R and it'll create it. Then take the disc to your computer and boot from it. Let it try to repair the problem.
One of the options with the repair disc is to boot to the command prompt if all else fails. From there you could copy your data to a flash drive or external hard drive.

Good luck.

I have XP Entertainment Home Edition
My system boots up to the user profile screen where I can choose between the two profiles
If I select either profile a blank desktop appears (no icons/no windows task bar) and freezes
Trying to boot into Safe Mode also hangs after choosing a profile

It's a Dell so I don't have the XP cds to try a repair. I do have other computers with different versions of XP installed that are working fine (no XP CDs though)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated

I'm surprised that your key worked with the Vista install that you downloaded as I am guessing you downloaded the full version whereas your key is for an OEM version.

This hidden partition can be used to recover all of the original software in the event of a major problem by pressing the F10 key repeatedly when the computer is first started

tried this?

Also I see that your Vista build is 6000. That means that you don't have either SP1 or SP2 installed. When you do get it working make sure you install them immediately.

As of a few hours ago my computer wont load past the splash screen.
My brother was playing Gunz and the graphics screwed up, never happened before. Nothing was responding so the only way i figured to use the computer was to shut it down and restart it. We held the button on the computer and it shut down. When we restarted a BSOD came up (sorry didnt write down the addresses) and it restarted again. Since then It wont start up. However safe mode is working, system restore doesn't want to work however.

I dont believe its hardware, maybe Graphics if anything.
Compaq has a setting to restore all to default, no cd.
Id rather not have 2 use it. But will if completely necessary....

Any help would be appreciated .
Thanks in advance!

A:Computer won't load past Splash Screen.

Fixed, It was the graphics card, Which is odd because it caused the Keyboard to not respond. Please Close.

Hi Guys I am having some trouble with my computer Some History- The PC is now over a year old and has been running fine for about a year AMD GT XP load Logo, past XP then Black Screen! wont - SLI-G Mobo GB Twinmoss Ram Sata HD DVD GT Sli Pixel View Graphics PCIe XP wont load past XP Logo, then Black Screen! Super Flower Watt PSU Now about months ago I XP wont load past XP Logo, then Black Screen! started to get the Nvidia card sentinal saying the Graphics Card isnt getting enough power and will reduce its performance to prevent any damage I checked it all out and it appear to be fine so pretty much ignore the issue About months ago my computer whilst playing a game would turn off the monitor and shut down the game in question was City of Heroes Some nights it would work fine others it would happen twice then run fine again Last week the computer was running really slow and had a process running at I fixed this by deciding to do a complete formatt and resinstall I reinstalled everything including the graphics card drivers the pop up about insufficient power was still there Everything was running fine until last night when the screen went in horizontal lines of greens and whites On a restart it gets to the windows logo with the progress screen and then remains blank I then restarted and up came the Windows did not start properly last time and listed the Safe mode options Obviously normal did not work but i could use both Safe modes Now thinking the PSU was at fault I ran out to get a new Watt PSU and the same thing happened I tried a System Restore and got everything running again until I installed my Graphic card drivers from the supplied CD On a restart it would only make it to the Windows logo So back into safe mode and I removed the drivers and it worked fine again So do I assume my Graphics Card has died although the fan is spinning on it and it appears on the Dos Start up when u first switch it on Is there something else I can do before I fork out for a new card Clear CMOS perhaps Regards Stuart nbsp

My computer has a virus on it called svchost.exe. My computer will boot and stuff normally and the "Welcome" screen comes on and it starts loading my background desktop and stuff and all of a sudden a box comes up saying "Personalizing Settings: C:// .... svchost.exe." Can someone help me?

A:Virus wont let my computer load past welcome screen!

Hi and welcome to TSF.

My name is Iain and I will be helping you clean your system.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

svchost is usually a critical system file and must not be removed - however, it can become infected or copied elsewhere.

I'd like to see a log if possible, before doing anything else. Can you boot to Safe Mode?

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
Double click the exe file.
The program will begin to run, and perform an initial scan. If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan. Click No.
In any case, after the initial scan is complete, click on the Save button, and save the log file somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

A:Computer will not load past Microsoft Screen After XP SP3 Upgrade

I am not really good at tech stuff...but I have been researching the sp3 problems. What kind of computer do you have? Intel/AMD?

There is a fix out there right now for AMD computers. There are some 'possible' fixes for Intel computers but they don't always work for all people. I can find links for you if that will help.

If you would like to uninstall sp3, since you CAN get to safe mode (some cannot after installing sp3), you can click on your start button, go to your control panel and choose to uninstall programs. Supposedly you will see service pack 3 there and you can choose to uninstall it.

I can't get into my safemode so I have not been able to do this...I'm just giving you what I have read.

After that, read everything you can about how to prep your computer before you re-install sp3...if you choose to do that.

Do you have a Windows disc?
You should have a Recovery Partition on your Dell Laptop. You can reset the computer back to Factory Defaults. https://techwalla.com/content/restor...ctory-settings

I have a Toshiba Satellite C850 - 1GL laptop with windows 8.1 and every time i try to load windows i get to the login screen and the laptop crashes. I cannot enter a password to access my account, restart or anything. I have to turn the laptop off with the power button.
I managed to access the bios and used a windows 8 disk, but i can't use any of the options for example automatic repair, refresh and system restore. I get a message saying the drive where windows is installed is locked. unlock the drive and try again.
I try to use the reset pc option but I get a message saying unable to reset your pc, a required drive partition is missing.
Has anyone got any ideas?

When I start up the computer it loads with a new loadup screen (did not happen till after the problems started). The screen says Asus Motherboard A8N-SLI Deluxe. It then goes to a screen that shows PCI device listing . . . I'm not sure what it all is for. At the bottom it says "A disk read error has occurred" "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. Occasionally it skips this screen and instead goes to the windows 7 Splash screen, but regardless of which it goes to I can't do anything else except restart the computer.

Sounds like a Hard disk issue.Run chkdsk

A- CHKDSK /R /F:

Quote:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.

Do this for each hard drive on your system.

When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.

Then reboot and let the test run.

It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.

See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

B- Elevated Command Prompt:

Quote:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)

At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

C-CHKDSK LogFile:

Quote:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.

Double click on the Source column header.

Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

A:Dell Inspiron M5030 Will Not Go Past Load Screen

Hi melslaptop,

One thing, if you are confident in opening up your laptop then I recommend taking out the hard-drive and plug it to a working computer via USB HDD adapter and transfer your files onto that computer.

It's possible that you will need to perform a "Windows Repair" on your computer(Since you have Vista/Windows 7 then it's called "In-Place Upgrade"). Would it be possible to get your hands on the Windows Vista Operating System CD? It looks like you only have the restore CD at this point.

My Medion PC running Windows XP loads past the windows loading screen then simply goes black but the computer is still on and the screen is still active. My dual boot of Ubuntu works perfectly as does safe mode. Ive had this issue for a while but it used to turn on after i rebooted it but now it only turns on occasionally. Also I'm almost certain its got nothing to do with my hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yea... 1 post !! WOOHOO

anyways... on my ACER LAPTOP i think its a aspire, not sure, it goes to the windows loading screen, then it goes to disc checking cuz i have to force turn it off... but then when its done checking or i just click a button to get rid of it, the monitor light flashes, but it has logged in cuz i heard the noise when you logged in to your desktop. so basically it won't show anything. but it shows everything else fine in safe mode. ANY TIPS OR TRICKS?

i have reformatted the bleepbox... i put in disc 1. disc 2 . disc 3... and disc 1 of the reformatting or w\e lol

so yea.. anyone have any ideas?

So as per my last post I still have the same trojan both tdlcmd.dll and eventually tdlwsp.dll. However, the computer was connected and used whilst I was away and not thoroughly scanned to remove these trojans. Now it won't load up past pretty much the start up screen and just restarts after a choice of either starting the computer normally or scanning for faults.

I dont know alot about computers so please bare with me. I deleted alot of old programs (such as games etc) which I do not use anymore, *through the control panel add/remove programs*, then did a virus scan, and deleted what was found, and decided to go to www.microsoft.com and get the sp3.. after I installed, when I restarted my computer later, it gave me a black screen saying that it was shut down unexpectedly, and offers safe modes, last good config, and start normally, I have tried all three options, with safe mode, it freezes the computer, with the other two, it boots to the windows logo screen, then it will restart the entire system. Is there any way to fix this? I did not get windows disks or anything like that when I bought the computer, I did create recovery disks, but have since lost one of them, so they aren't much help.

Thanks

lickitysplit87,

It's going to be difficlt without the XP CD, as that has the Recovery Console that we need in order to get your computer past the logo screen and into the OS.

Have a read here. If you feel confident that you can get the ISO burnt to disk, come back and we'll continue.

Hi guys,
I made a post here about a new graphics card which led to me purchasing this one.

I got the card today, removed my old one, popped the new one in - it didn't require any additional cables to be plugged in.
When I start the computer now, the screen saying DELL loads up, but my display gets 'no signal' when the computer moves to the next step.
I have tried the computer on several different displays and get the same problem which means that the problem is related to my graphics card.

I can boot up using the integrated graphics card- i have tried booting up with this and installing the drivers for the new one but still the same problem

Cheers

A:Dell laptop won't load past POST screen, no diag errors found.

Work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start starting with rescuing your files and then doing at least two of the bootable Virus scans including Malwarebytes if you can get into Safe Mode, attempt to repair system files from Win7 disk Command Line which is provided, then confirm Active partition and run several Startup Repairs, try System restore from Options list if it isn't offered.

After rescuing your files I would almost immediately run Dell Diagnostics from the F12 boot menu key to confirm the hardware. There may be a fuller suite on the choice for Utility Partition. If these will run then be sure to save the Utility Tools partition if you choose the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 although all other partitions can be deleted.

See if you can boot to repair options
you create a recovery DVD, you may be able to boot to recovery options
Create Recovery DVD

The Vista recovery disk is used to boot Vista when it won't boot - to run Startup Repair, System Restore, access a Command Line, Recover using a Vista Backup Image, etc.
System Recovery Options

If Vista will not start now, boot the Recovery CD to run Startup Repair which automates System Restore as well as numerous other tests including System File Checker which can repair system files which are not corrupted beyond repair.

If Vista still will not start, try booting into Safe Mode to run sfc /scannow to repair System files.
Special Thanks Given to Seven Forums.

Below is a bulletin distributed by MS to explain the start up procedure when Windows will not boot.
Startup Repair. Startup Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as missing or damaged system files, that might prevent Windows from starting. Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it might also be stored on your computer's hard disk. For more information, see Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista? If your computer does not include Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer might have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.Change restart settings in safe mode. If your computer is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and then fails again repeatedly, restart your computer in safe mode and select the Disable automatic restart on system failure checkbox. For more information, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).Reinstall. If no other options have solved the problem, and you are sure that your computer's hardware is functioning normally, you might need to reinstall Windows. A custom (clean) installation of Windows will permanently delete all of the files on your computer and reinstall Windows, so only use this option if all other recovery options have been unsuccessful. After the installation, you will need to reinstall your programs and restore your files from backup copies. For more information, see Installing and reinstalling Windows**.

A:Creating a Windows 8 Recovery Drive for an Inspiron that will not load past the Dell logo screen!! HELP

"Checking Media" and "No Boot Device Found" sounds like it's trying to boot from the DVD drive but not finding a Windows system disk. You can try putting one in the drive. If you don't have a Windows 8 system disk, you'll have to keep trying the F12 bypass (keep pressing it repeatedly...don't hold or only press once) to get you into boot options, and then make sure you select your hard drive. You should be able to request a system disk from Dell (and you should anyway...even if you do recover from the USB drive).
ALSO: please remember that, unless you made an image of your hard-drive or used backup software, your "recovery" options will be limited to repairing the existing installation or reinstalling altogether. If you reinstall, you could lose your files and settings.
For what it's worth, my Inspiron started acting up after about a year (Windows 7) with overheating on high-demand programs (even with a cooling pad, plenty of ventilation and a desktop fan blowing on it). That was followed by the slow performance you described and now I'm getting a "hard drive failure" error.
I've seen other users report the similar issues with their Inspirons on these forums (and others) so I think we just got stuck with a lemon . Hope you have better luck with yours....I've pretty much given up on mine and moved back to my old desktop.

A:Laptop wont load past windows page, stuck with black screen and cursor

Since AVG 'cleaned' a virus - all bets r off as the problem could be a leftover from the virus. apparently, a (some) system files r damaged. Going forward, u might not want to run normally as an admin user. That helps keep malware from invisibly installing if the AV does not catch it. 1. have u tried booting to safe mode? If u can get there try this clk Start - type CMD -- rt clk cmd.exe and select Run as Admin when the dos window opens type 'sfc /scannow' let it run retry boot when done. 2. If u can't get there or that doesn't work put ur windows CD in and boot to that. Run the repair install - or it might be called upgrade. Just do NOT do a CLEAN install. That will not erase any of your data. 3. If that does not work If u get a Hiren's boot disk, or something similar. U can boot to that and most likely copy ur data from the drive prior to doing a clean install. This assumes the drive isn't corrupt which appears to be true since it gets to the Windows screen. 4. If not u will have to remove the drive and connect it to another computer as an external HDD to copy the data. 5. If none of the above works - u have come to the complete understanding of the word BACKUP................ good luck

Hi,

Laptop is a Samsung R510 running Vista.

When it is switched on, it gets stuck on the Samsung BIOS load screen. The F2 (Setup) and F4 (Recovery) buttons don't work unless they are pressed straight away. But when they are pressed it says 'Please Wait', but nothing happens.

I have changed the CMOS battery, but it hasn't helped.

I have also taken the hard drive out and turned it on, still the same. Each RAM stick has been tried on its own, and it is still the same.

Can anyone help?

Last night, I attempted to install a linux distro alongside 7, the installation failed, so I gave up and just rebooted to 7.

It got stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen, so I preformed hard shutdown and when to the "Startup Repair" utility and it attempted repairs, it then said that the repairs were unsuccessful, so I restarted and windows loaded to the desktop. Success! or so I thought...

After a while, I shut my laptop down and went to bed (as you do). When I needed to use it this morning, it wouldn't load past the "Starting Windows" screen again, so I shut it down and restarted and it went the desktop.

A:Occasionally wont load past "Starting Windows" screen

Hi,

Can you access the Advanced boot options?

Advanced Boot Options
Choose Last known Good Configuration

 Tip
Use the up-arrow and down-arrow keys to move the menu’s highlight to Last Known Good Configuration (Advanced), and then press Enter as the mouse won’t work at this screen.

Your computer should load successfully, and Windows 7 will discard the bad configuration and return permanently to the last known good configuration.

Alternatively:

Are you able to restore back to a point to before you tried to install linux distro?

System Restore

Cheers

Hi GuysI recently purchased a second hand XPS 13 and everything has been running fine until this morning. I ran ADWCleaner for general maintenance, the machine rebooted and loaded back into Windows without issue. Shortly after, the laptop started beeping over and over again. I tried rebooting only to find that the laptop won't load Windows and doesn't load past the Dell splash screen. There is no beeping during bootup. Also, I am load to setup or boot selection screens after pressing F2 or F12. The laptop appears to register if I have selected one of those two options but will not load after the Dell screen progress bar has reached 100%I have stumbled across a couple of posts on the internet suggesting that the issue maybe motherboard related ?Does anybody have suggestions on what I can do to resolve this issue ?Thanks in advance.

A:Dell XPS 13 (2013) doesn't load past Dell splash screen

Hi CAPTAINSPRINGS,
What is the exact system model? Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter?
Download the service manual - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the manual and disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and try powering on the system with adapter only / battery only and check.
Based on your system model, check if you are able to remove and reseat the memory modules if possible.
Disconnect the HDD and check if the system goes past the Dell logo.
Try the onboard diagnostics - press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics. Check for any possible beeps codes.
If nothing works, then I would suspect a faulty motherboard.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Let us know if you have any other queries.

After few total freezes when playing dota2, my windows won't load past starting windows screen (this), that end up with BSOD every time.
I'am think that my HDD is gone, but i need to know for sure.
I tried to run it in safe mode, but it can't load any file past CLASSPNP.SYS
I just need to know is that HDD or windows because my disk is something about 8 yo and I need to replace him anyway, but i would like to save files on him, that's why i need to start it up somehow.
Btw. can I copy my win7 32 registry to new win7 64, will that work in any way?

It sounds like some sort of hardware failure, possibly hard drive. You have a 1 yr warranty with HP. Scroll down on the page here to start a request for service. Thanks for your time and effort.

A:Dell Inspiration 3521, Won't load past first DELL screen.

Unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Remove and reinstall both memory modules. Verify that the LED on the AC adapter is ON before you plug in the notebook end.
Plug in the notebook end and try powering up on AC only - if it will but won't with the battery installed, the battery is the cause -- replace it with a new one.
If it still won't power up, replace the mainboard.

I am reasonably sure that I shut my girlfriend's computer down with no issues last night, but this morning when she turned it on the computer had her wallpaper up with no icons instead of the User login page. She hard-reset, and ever since then - no matter which user we log in as - Vista won't load past the Welcome screen.

It will load up in all three compatibility modes, but the Last Known Good Configuration only loads to a blank black screen which I can move the pointer around on.

I've run a virus scan, and jv16 Power Tools says the registry is now clean, but the computer is still having issues. Would fixing registry errors be why the Last Known Good Configuration doesn't work?

The computer is an Intel Core 2 Duo Sony VAIO, with 4GB RAM running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1.

Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Solved: Vista Won't Load Past "Welcome" Screen

I would undo any changes that jv16 Power Tools made.
Using a registry cleaner can and often does, cause more problems than it solves.
Do you have the Vista install DVD?
Vista repair options.
Try a system restore or a start up repair.

Upon start-up, two options are given: "Start Windows Normally" or "Launch Startup Repair (recommended)".
If the Start Windows Normally option is chosen, then the starting windows screen comes up and stays. If I launch the startup repair option, then I still can not get the problem fixed.
From the Startup Repair Screen however, I can launch command prompt and restore options, how can I fix this, a restore is not really an option because I have not set up a restore point in a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you in advance.

A:Won't load past "Starting Windows" screen

It's possible that you can't access the actual startup repairs from within Windows itself. You might have to boot from either an installation disk or a previously made system repair disk. And it might take running the startup repair 3 times before all issues are fixed.

Hi, my Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop is only loading up to the "welcome" screen, with the spinning blue circle. This has been happening every few weeks for the past few months, and I can usually get it to work, but now it isn't. I've tried Startup Repair, System Restore, chkdsk /f, and the "ctrl-alt-del at the welcome screen" method, all to no avail. Safe mode boots fine. I could back up my files and restore the computer to factory settings, but I'd rather that be a last resort.

Any ideas?

Edit: I am on Service Pack 2, by the way.

A:[SOLVED] Vista won't load past "Welcome" screen

If safemode works, it could be a driver issue locking things up. Did you installe any hardware or software recently?

Hello. Sorry if this has already been addressed before but none of the things I've tried myself or online have worked.

Last night I accidentally switched off the power strip my computer is plugged into. Ever since, it won't load past the Starting Windows screen. It even does the little sound that plays when you get to the sign in screen, but my screen remains blank. I can use the computer in safe mode. I've tried a system restore, malware bytes, using the last good configuration etc I'm not sure what else to do. The computer was just given to me the other day so I do not know any of the specs on it. Please help if you can. Thank you.

A:Windows won't load past Starting Windows screen

Does the starting windows screen have animation all the time? Or does it become blank all of a sudden? Is there still a mouse cursor? Or is there a text cursor?

Safe mode works as expected?

This just started happening last night. Earlier that day I bought a 160gb seagate external HD at Fry's for 50 bux and was moving tons a files over to it (for about 3 hours). At one point I cancelled uploading and rebooted fine, but later that night my girlfriend did the same thing and rebooted and XP will not load... not in safe mode. I didn't install anything with the external HD as it was Plug n Play and I didn't install any new programs yesterday either...

I don't have a Win XP CD either (or boot disk). I guess my first action will need to be to buy Win XP and try a system recovery?

Is there any way to find out what is stopping it from loading?

I also switched the memory sticks with some other memory and that did nothing...

I'm at a loss :l

Hello and welcome to the forum.

First if you can I need you to run a full updated scan using you Anti-Virus..

Next if you do not have malwarebytes, then please download it and run a full scan, here is the link and you can download the free version.

okay, so today when i tried to use my computer, the computer stops at the windows 7 welcome screen, after the user is selected. some things to note. i did connect a different primary drive and use this one as a secondary. it loaded just fine, so its something on the hard drive, second, the drive IS virus free, i ran a scan with it as a secondary. another thing to note is the computer does not freeze. it looks like its trying to load something, it turns black for a second then it turns back to the welcome screen for awhile, and repeat.

i am aware that this "should" be a problem relating to video drivers, however because i cannot boot the computer, i cannot install the new drivers.
another thing, i CANNOT boot into safe mode, same problem, i tried all options, no known restore points, and finally, the startup repair finds nothing wrong

A:windows 7 wont load past "welcome"

Have you tried booting minus the second drive?
