I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

I am currently using an Asus Sli-deluxe motherboard with an x1800xt videocard. I already have a 6-pin connected to the videocard but theres also a spot on the motherboard for a standard 4-pin connector from the psu. (4-pin just like the hard drive power connectors) Will connecting my psu to this 4-pin plug be helpful to maximize and stablize the performance of my card or am i fine with the direct 6-pin already?

Any one know which 2 terminals get jumpered to make this work? Or perhaps where I can get the information?

oh yeah it's an xt power supply.

After having talked to the manufacturer service dept and finding out that they will charge about twice what I paid for a repair, I took the thing apart and found a smoked capacitor on what appears to be a power supply board.
Does anyone know of a source for parts?
thanks in advance

A:Laptop Power Board

If you are good with a soldering iron go to radio shack and get replacement components. Call the manufacturer again and ask them to sell you just the part as long as you know what it is. Most of them will be glad to send you one or point you to a depot center where u can buy one.

I've decided to upgrade my Alienware X51 R1 (i7, 16Gb RAM, GTX 660) to a latest videocard that my system can use: GTX 970. But I know about some problems with this: the original powerboard that came with R1 version is not proper working with theese videocards. So I've already know that I just need to swap poverboard from R1 to R2. The art of it in Dell spare parts is D85RT.
I've tried to chat to Dell support North america, so thay told me it's not a problem to buy it in US and Canada, but they cannot sell and send it to me...
So where, how can I buy it in Russia and what's the price of it.

A:Board doesn't power on

I don't work much with laptops, but power related issues are generally a motherboard function. If a laptop boots with/without a battery, or with/without AC connected, it typically implies a motherboard malfunction.

Hopefully someone with more experience can confirm.

can anyone tell where the problem , in PSU or motherboard or the HSF or any other place so i change it .

A:cpu would not switch on, but board gets power.

You need to post your system component specs. Motherboard; EXACT make, model and revision (if applicable). Processor; EXACT make, model and stepping. Memory; EXACT make and model. Graphics Card (if installed); EXACT make and model. Power Supply; EXACT make and model. Provide links to the components.

No one can possibly diagnose a problem without knowing the EXACT components you used in the build.

If the machine is a mass produced machine such as Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. post the EXACT make and model.

The USB to PS2 adapters are likely the cause of the problem; thy simply don't always work with every mouse/keyboard.
You'll probably want a USB KVM to resolve this.

I have been using HP Pavillion DV6220TX since 2007.

The problem is that I have to move the power adapter pin in various direction applying pressure in different angles until the blue ring lights up

Since 2007 I have already changed the power connector board twice. I have bought the board off ebay and changed it myself. The problem has re-surfaced once again.

Does anyone know if I can use any other type of power adapter board? I think the design of the recommended board (431446-001) is flawed and gets damaged very quickly.

So you are trying with a total of 2 sticks? You are not running with your old sticks in there as well are you?

Try the ram in different slots and see if you can boot up. Also try with just one stick at a time. You can also try resetting your CMOS, sometimes that will help you to boot up.

If you put your old ram in there, can you boot up?

Let us know how it goes.

I have a fairly old monitor (NEC MultiSync 75) that always works with video cards but never works properly when I have it on-board.

The screen resolution is set at 640x480 and the color quality is set at 16 bit, and I cannot change these options. In the device manager, I don't even have a monitor tab, however I do have 2 sub-tabs under Other Devices titled SM Bus Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible).

The screen is fine and so is the monitor itself, but I'm thinking that there's an issue with the drivers. When I downloaded the drivers for it, there was no .exe file. Instead, I unzipped an ICC Profile, a Security Catalog, and a Security Information file.

Does anybody know if I can just put these files into the registry somehow and my system will automatically update them and fix my screen resolution?

My area had a freak high humidity event earlier this year, that caused water to condense on basically everything overnight.  It got to my laptop.  It doesn't power on when the power button is pressed.  However, I tinkered with it, and realized I can force a start by detaching the power button board from the motherboard, then briefly shoving the wire ribbon into the socket until it makes contact, then removing it.  The laptop can then boot regularly.  It can't successfully boot if the ribbon is left securely in the socket.  I never touch a button during any of this.  It seems this is likely a ruined button pad, right?

was wondering if anyone can answer this for me...

i want a graphics card along the lines of ATI X1900. it needs a 400W+ PSU, my system has a 250W PSU.

if i install a 400W PSU will it effect the other components in any way, eg... blow the motherboard? fry the HDD?

searched already for an answer but could find a specify yes or no... cheers guys

A:Power supply and mother board compatibility

Most likely no. There are some older Dell systems that had a proprietary power supply where the pins were switched around so that only a Dell PSU could be used.

As far as pure wattage goes, have no fear. 1000w power supplies are just as safe if not safer than that 200w in the current system.

Really, if your planning on investing in such a nice graphics card, you might as well put just a little more into the PSU as well, maybe a 450w or 500w.

A:on board video dead, no signal to monitor

Putting a new card in may not work as some BIOS's require you to tell them that there is another card there. You could try finding the CMOS reset jumper, which is usually near the battery/BIOS chip on the motherboard. Using that may reset it and tell it to use the card you put in.

I recently bought three computer cases, all new (still in a factory-sealed box) and supposedly for Intel server boards. I am wanting to use one of the power supplies in a standard case with a standard desktop board with a twenty-pin power connector. The power supply has a twenty-four pin connector.

Here's the question: Can I simply connect the twenty-four pin connector to the twenty-pin board (letting the extra four pins hang off to the side, unconnected) and have it work that way?

These server cases for Intel server boards are something I have no experience with and I just don't know.

On the mother board, i know where the panel is for these cables but i just don't know where each one goes. There's intotal of 9 pins with 4 on top and 5 on the bottom. Please if someone knows where to put each on this old motherboard pleaseeee tell me

Hello everybody. On one of my websites for one of my internet radio stations, I use Invision Power board for the message boards, and one of my DJs wants the calendar events to show up on a page on the main site.

It's either that, or he wants FTP access to add the events to an html page, but I think the calendar on IPB would be alot easier for him, and be easier on my mind too knowing people dont have access to my FTP.

The address of the forum is here: (click Calendar in the upper right)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

Hey, About 5 months ago i decided to swap my HDD for an SSD, for some extra speed. However, when opening the laptop i broke the ribbon cable off the power button board. In the last 5 months i tried buying a replacement from ebay. I have bought boards from 3 different sellers, and not one of them worked. They all showed the same behavior; plugging and then unplugging the cable from the motherboard started the computer, and as soon as i put the cable back in, the computer shut down. I used a multimeter to see what was going on, and it turns out the new boards did not switch anything, whereas the original board switched when the button was pushed (of course). Is there a way i can purchase an official replacement?  Thanks in advance!

Hi I own a Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80Ghz running on 2 core processers it is a HP PC m7360n. And Running on Upgrade Version of Windows Vista Home Premium. I have 300watts Powersupply running with Radeon x1600 512MB PRO Version. Then I "want to upgrade to 700watts" Powersupply with out any issues from "300 watts power supply". Is it safe enough to install the powersupply? Also I gotten today Radeon HD 3870 512MB wich is require to upgrade 450 or higher? Is it ok go and head install the power supply? Or can my HD 3870 can or can't? run 300Max which I know is unsafe. :/ I don't want to take any chances. Or not I just goto a local computer store and pay for them to install it.

A:Installing 700w Power Supply to Intel 4 Board

I would go ahead and install the new power supply. You should have no issues as long as the new power supply has all the proper connectors your equipment needs such as a PCI-E connector (for the graphics card) and a 700W should. If you are worried about a 700W being too powerful for your old setup, don't be. Your PC will draw only what it needs from the power supply even if you install a 1200W PSU.

Each type of PSU connector can only be connected to its own type and they are keyed so it is hard to install them backwards. After installing all the new power connections, double check the data cables. Sometimes they can get loose by accident when you are installing the other cables.

If you haven't bought it yet, make sure you get a good quality PSU. This is one piece of equipment you don't want to go too cheap.

Hi everyone.
Yesterday I bought a new monitor (Packard Bell viseo 190W), I've plugged it to my computer, but something is not working: while windows (I've XP pro) is loading the logo appears and everything seems to be ok, but just before the "user-interface" loads, the monitor goes black showing a "NO SIGNAL" message. I tried to uninstall ati-drivers (my graphic card is ati radeon 9250, 256MB ram), it works but obviously is in low mode graphic. If i try to reinstall catalyst + drivers the problem comes back. I tried Omega drivers too, same problem :\

What should I do? Any suggestions?

Computer limped along for 8 days then failures stabilized. DC In light steady on mains power, battery indication is " 0% charge, not charging". Battery should have about 70% charge and computer boots properly on battery. I assume the on-board power supply unit is u/s.

You probably need to enable on-brd graphics again in the BIOS. Plug monitor bk into rage card reboot, press DEL key to enter BIOS. It will be the Standard CMOS set-up or the PCI/Plug n Play menu.

Can you see the POST screen to enter back into the BIOS? You may need to go back in with the manual for the PC and make sure everything is properly set. If you used F2 to enter the BIOS, it should work, but you will need to make sure the display setting is supported. If you disable on board video, you will need to get a stand a lone video card to make the change.

I unplugged the power to the monitor and let it sit overnight. This morning I went and plugged the power back into the monitor and pressed the power button on it. When I pressed the power button the button started blinking again. I have never had a monitor die like this and I would like to know why it died and if it can be fixed. Some more info is that i had only been on the computer for less than 2 hours. I have not spilled anything on the computer, the vent is completely uncovered, and the computer is in good working conditions according to the mannual. I need to know asap please. The tower still works perfectly fine it is only the monitor.

A:Monitor is black and the power button on the monitor is blinking

If you could try the monitor on another PC, that would confirm the monitor is faulty. In any case if the monitor is bad and considering its age, it would be best to just replace it. It would not be worth fixing.

A:Built new computer, normal fans work, but CPU fan doesn't spin, board wont power

Sounds like a power supply problem, or a error in connecting a cable. Thus the shot spin of the cpu fan. But usually you just missed something too obvious to think about.
Reseat all cables. Reseat all memory modules. Then try it with one or two memory modules at a time. Then switch to the others.
Check your CPU for proper seating, and possible bent pin.
When no longer frustrated, think through everything you have done in the setup, even the heat sink and thermal paste.
We have all gone through this. We know has exasperated you must feel.

A:monitor power down

I have a similar problem, my computer sets the monitor to power-saving mode at random times and it won't wake up. I have swapped my monitor with two others, and the problem still continues. I have tried upgrading the video card driver (x-micro MX-420) but that does not correct the problem. I usually reinstall from a ghost image, but tried a new Windows XP install from the CD. The monitor powered down during the install but I noticed it happened about the same time the windows installer was checking hardware, at the point where it polls the monitor or video card. (I think it was polling I could see the monitor flick on and off like when testing resolution). Anyone else had this problem?

I am going to swap the video card at a friends place on the weekend, will report back on that.

I have a KDS 17" Monitor that last me for 4 years and all of a sudden it went dead...NO POWER, no lights. I opened the monitor and replaced the fuse and still the same power. It's not the computer cause I hooked up another monitor and that works fine.

Does anyone know why?

A:Monitor has no power at all

Probably just went bad. Be extremely careful in inside the monitor as some parts in there hold a charge even when unplugged.

I have a 17" Acer LCD monitor on a WIN 98 computer. There is no power to this monitor. No lights, If I take this monitor to another pc it works fine. If I put a different monitor on the WIN 98 it does not work. Have plugged into a power plug that I know works. This would suggest it's the VGA port, but why do I have atleast a power light on the monitor?
I'm confused.

A:no power to LCD monitor

your graphics card may be damaged or not seated properly, open the case, check inside to see if the card is seated correctly, maybe remove the card and insert it again, if that doesnt work, i would suggest, taking that card to another pc and see if the monitor works, if it doesnt then that card is broken.

My computer was on through the night like always, screen saver going and I could see everything on the monitor just fine. I wake up, my monitor is powered on, cuz I can see the green power light, but I can't see anything on the screen. If I turn off the monitor and turn back on, I can see the screen for about a split second. I tried unplugging and replugging all cables in/out. I've tried shutting down the computer for a while. Even restarting it as well. Nothing seems to work. It has power to it, I just can't see the screen.

A:Monitor has power, but can't see anything

For simpler hardware issues like this, we try to isolate the variables, meaning we'll test one different thing at a time. In this case we can make it simple and have just have two things to test: your computer and your monitor (shouldn't need to test things like the video card etc.)

Try plugging the monitor into another computer. If it works then there is a problem with your computer somewhere, like in the video card. If that's the case we can do some more detailed diagnostics.

Plug another monitor into your original computer. If it works then your original monitor has an internal issue, and you might be out of luck.

ok bought a barebones pc of ebay Came with a pc chips board wouldnt post reset jumpers and after a week of trying to get it to work finally said it was ead and went and bought a MSI KT board thinking this will fix problem installed cpu and heat sink installed board into case and installed stick of pc turned it on but same thing happened as before board to msi board..same chips from problem pc with pc chips board fans on cpu and vga card from pc chips board to msi board..same problem spin but just a black screen rset jumpers to clear and reset back tried again still wouldnt boot checked to make sure it board wasnt touching case and shorting from pc chips board to msi board..same problem out but everything seems to be good there theres no beep codes same as with pc chips board KT board comes with a pci slot attachment with usb and led error light when i start pc the light stay on red In manual it says that means cpu is not installed correctly from pc chips board to msi board..same problem or either it is damages reseated cpu and used some artic silver but still same thing and led light stay red im thinking there was nothing wrong with pc chips board just like theres nothing wrong with msi board Could it be the power supply It has a cheap power supply HERCULES is the name on it it weighs almost nothing Ive tried different stick of memory and vga card only things that are comman with problem cpu a AMD Athlon XP mhz and this cheap power supply The problem has to be with either the cpu or power supply thats what im thinking nbsp

A:from pc chips board to msi board..same problem

If ur not posting and considering what u've done coupled with the MSI diagnostics it is very likely there is a problem with this cpu.
You need to get a hold of another compatible AMD cpu just to see if u can post, from there u can confront the ebay seller for any restitution ovr the cpu if there was any kind of guarantee offered at all with the purchased items.

It sounds like something has got out of synch and fixing it is diffucult. I recommend you try a third party utility to enable it, for some free utilities to try see:

When ever I enter a graphics intensive program, such as a game like Counterstrike my monitor loses power, and my video card fan starts going much much faster, almost doubling or tripling the sound coming from my computer.

How ever this only happens about 80% of the time, there are sometimes when I can play games for days on end and my computer won't react to it. Then one day I may open a game and the issue sets in yet again.

I implanted the video card into a different computer and played games there and it worked perfectly fine. I was thinking it may be the power supply, but I wanted some more experienced advice from you guys.
I doubt it, but I was wondering also if it might be a software issue that is making me lose power.

A:Monitor losing power

What is your power supply? You might need to purchase a stronger PSU at least 500 watts.

Hi Everyone,
I have a Hp mx70 17" monitor. I was using the computer the other night when a bolt of lightning hit somewhere around, and knocked the power out for a few seconds. My monitor and computer lost power. My computer came back on, but my monitor would not come back on. I am trying to check somewhere in the monitor for a fuse to replace, but I am having a difficult time getting into the case. Note: that I tried a different monitor, and the computer and monitor that I am using is fine. That tells me that there is a problem with the mx70. Can someone help me here? Thank you in advance.

A:mx70 monitor has no power

Lets assume that there is a "user replaceable fuse" in the monitor (ande there probably is not one accessible without disassembly).

The fuse will have blown due to an electronic failure on the monitor circuitry 99% of the time in my experience. Fuses are made of sufficient rating to handle minor surges that happen everytime that the power comes on so IF its a blown fuse, it's a result of the lighting taking out other vital component(s), which have caused a fault in the monitor (often in the high voltage section) that has to be repaired. Its that fault which takes out the fuse.

If there is a fuse, simply replacing it without fault-finding for subsequent damage will just drive any fault deeper, taking out yet more components.

Its really a job for a qualified or knowledgable person (there is 25,000 volts floating around inside the monitor case) but realistically unless the damage was easily found and repairable, a new monitor would probably be cheaper.

Every time I shut down windows 2000 pro or log out of Novell I get the error that the Power Monitor has hung and I need to click "end" to terminate it. How do I disable this from starting when windows starts and/or uninstall it.

A:Power Monitor hangs

I guess you are using a laptop. Try downloading and installing a new version of it, see:,fid,5495,00.asp

Or to disable it use Server Manager and change the start option.
