Acer X3400 upgrade

Q: Acer X3400 upgrade

I have a Acer Aspire X3400 And I would really likle to upgrade it to 3.0 or 4.0, I also want to raise the FPS from 12 ( ikr, it's crap ) to a standard gaming pc

Please tell me

1. Motherboard size
2. What parts you would advise me to get
3. Where can I find some that will fit

thanks.

Preferred Solution: Acer X3400 upgrade

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My friend has an Acer X3400 (slimline so smaller than standard desktops and normal stuff will not fit in it) and is playing SWTOR and needs a new video card has it runs on a on-board Geforce 9200 and will need a bigger power supply prob. as it has only a 220 power supply in it - I was like wt... has his computer is only a year old. Coupe Questions:

1. if went from 4GB of RAM to 8GB (the max it can have) will we beable to allocate RAM to the video card?,

2. what video card (remember good for gaming) and power supply do you recommend?

A:Acer X3400 parts upgrade

You shouldn't allocate system ram for a video card while playing games but you can in many cases I think. The new video card should come with it's own ram for its exclusive use. You'll need to find a half-height video card to fit in that case. Most gaming cards aren't half-height.

There are plenty of small PSUs that can provide power for a small video card. Which power supply he gets depends on how much space is actually available for a new PSU and the power requirements for the new video card and probably a few other factors I haven't considered yet.

If that is the back of your friends computer I don't think the power supply easily comes off. The power socket seems to be built into the case. You'd probably need a BTX case & power supply and then you could go nuts with a new video card. Even if you did get a new case, you wouldn't have a back plate to put in place. See the number 10. It seems to be built into the case and would make replacing the power supply difficult. That may be an ATX motherboard in a BTX case; I can't tell from here.

BSOD on my new Acer X3400. It has Windows 7 pre-installed. I update automatically. BSOD almost on daily basis.

I hope this is enough information to work with. Thanks in advance.

A:BSOD Acer X3400

Hi -

All 3 BSODs had same bugcheck - 0x1a = memory management error

Remove old version KIS - KIS Removal -- sysnative.com - MVP

If BSODs are software related, Driver Verifier may help find rogue driver.

Run Driver Verifier - Driver Verifier - Windows 7 & Vista (BSOD-related)

Are you looking to see if other people think that its a good machine? Its kind of a subjective answer. What are you looking to use it for?

Looking at the product page for the X3400 desktop on acer's website, it says the computer comes with 4gb of ddr3, maybe just a typing error?

Anyone else get an X3400 to the November build?

I do not see this on the list of systems that are supported for the Windows 10 upgrade. You can find a complete listing at http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10-eligible-models. Maybe another user has been able to install the Windows 10 upgrade with the November update and can provide some advice. You could try creating a USB Windows 10 installation drive from Microsoft's website to see if that helps?

Okay so this was a Prebuilt pc that i bought from a shop a few years back, and the Optical drive was preinstalled (like most of them are) but its quite big, and i was wondering if i could remove it so that i could install a sound card in it (if there is a slot underneath) and i have no use for the drive since if i had to do a restore it would be by USB so my question is, can i remove it with harming anything ?

My system is roughly months old I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to home premium There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to Acer M3203 Windows software Acer's upgrade and Aspire 7 deep hibernation The only way to wake it was to unplug Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software the power from the tower I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers to finally reinstalling everything No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer I just got it back from Acer's repair depot They had to replace the motherboard hard drive and fans on the system They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold the hibernation thing started again It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory Now it seems stable running Vista I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell Is it me or is Acer systems flakey Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows without having to format every week I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly Sometimes it won't even turn on Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

I got a free upgrade for windows 7 for my mom's laptop but it wont install
it gets past the checking step and then restarts and says its reverting back to vista but it doesnt say exactly why

when i got my laptop's free upgrade from hp it took a couple of hours but it installed perfectly and i didnt need to backup my files so wtf is wrong with acer?

A:Acer Upgrade Kit

Your best bet is a clean install booting from the Windows 7 DVD included, the disk with the official MS license sticker giving the Product Key. Plug in ethernet, Select "Connect to the Internet during Install" to get the latest drivers/Updates during install, then Custom, then Advanced drive tools to format the HD and install.

Of course, you always need to back up files (ask your Mom which) when installing/Upgrading, and gather program installers/disks ahead of time because you will need to reinstall programs.

Afterwards, you can install anything else needed from the apps/drivers CD included, however the Win7 DVD is pretty much driver-complete and newer drivers come in on Windows Updates.

Your problem sounds like a failing In-Place Upgrade, which is not a clean install and carries over corruption from Vista. It may be the machine is doing you a favor by refusing to in-place Upgrade. A clean install is always better.

I'm hoping to be able to upgrade the CPU in my ageing and overworked Acer Aspire G600p Desktop computer currently with a Pentium 4 2Ghz socket 478 on an Acer j87m board. Does anyone know what the maximum performance I can upgrade to? I'm seeing on eBay that 3Ghz P4's are very cheap but I don't know if this computer supports Hyperthreading.
Any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Acer CPU Upgrade

The fastest P4 you can throw in there is 3.4 GHz. But if you could find a P4 Extreme 3.4 GHz then it would be a bit faster. That is your best bet.

Hi I'm planning on upgrading my Acer tc-705 with a MSI gtx 750ti. I've done hours and possibly weeks of research seeing whether this card will work with my pre built PC or not. I've come to the conclusion that it will work but its better to upgrade my PSU sooner than later. Can I have some second opinions here on the Acer community site. A:Acer Upgrade Wizard

Is there a clean copy of Win7 Upgrade installer included in the "kit" Acer sent?

If so, you can try booting from it to do a custom clean install.

First back up all of your files and, if possible, a HDD image using a program like free Macrium. This way you can easily reimage your HDD if operations fail.

Others have described an Acer two disk Upgrade set with a clean copy WIn7 upgrade disk which can be booted to do a clean install, and an apps/drivers disk which also contains the dreaded bloatware and might not be needed since Win7's installer is excellent with drivers - almost all you need are included in it or are quickly provided by Windows Updates.

Your model will also have a product download page where you can find any drivers.
Only if you rely on Works do you need that apps disk, and copies of Works can be found elsewhere, like Adobe reader/flash and Java runtime can easily be googled.

it says it can be upgraded to core 2 duo.. and core 2 quad...
does that mean i need a bigger psu to run a quad?
and whatst he best and the correct version of the quad to put in it or does it even matter?
and secondly whats a good low profile graphics card to throw in there that will take my psu its is a 220 psu.
its low but i wanna no get a new psu if i dont have to thanks

A:acer x1700 upgrade help plz

If your looking to upgrade I would use this PSU calculator to give you a rough idea of what you would need for a PSU. Generally speaking, retail PC's (store bought) PSU's are undersized to start with along with everything else in the case. That's not to say there's nothing wrong with buying retails PC's. I own 3 retail PC's along with 1 custom built PC.

Hey guy and gals, read some forums and found out that u all are very helpful. So I decided to post a query myself. I have an Acer RC 500 and want to upgrade the graphic card. I really don?t know if I have a pci express slot or agp, but most probably an agp slot. So I want a good AGP graphic card and it may be an ati or NVIDIA, price does not matter. The configuration of my Pc is:-
3.2 GHZ Pentium 4
512 DDR Ram
GeForce FX 5200 128 mb (came installed with the pc)

Would really like to hear from u guys, especially anyone who as the same configuration or the same branded pc. I want to be able to play games like DOOM 3, Half-lie 2, Vampires and GTA San Andres on High. Please also include the specs of your choice. Thanks (Hope not asking to much)

It appears to be this Motherboard, Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS, which should run any S939 {including X2's}.

A:Can I upgrade my Acer Aspire XC-705?

your model has:2 SATA 3.0 port1 SATA 2.0 port so this is the first issue you will encounter, not enough ports if you keep the DVD drive connected. the biggest issue is the lacking of RAID (hardware) support from the BIOS (at least i can't find any reference to this option on the BIOS). so, not worth in my opinion, since you must rely on a software RAID 1 enviroment.

Hello everyone! First post here so be nice

I recently bought a new screen for my acer aspire 5920g to upgrade the 1280x800 supplied screen. The new screen is WSXGA (1650x900), I've managed to get to the point of exchanging the screens however it seems as though acer only have wired up half the LCD cable. Now, I thought no problem, i'll wire the rest up myself. The only issue is that i'm not sure it is possible, there are not another 8 connections on the motherboard plug to wire up...... does anyone know if this is possible?

A:Acer 5920G LCD upgrade

I would say no, it is not possible. The LCD screens are always matched up with the motherboard type and video pinouts

Hello, I did find a few threads about this but for other models, so I take my chance. I would like to buy a new ~240go SSD M 2 to upgrade my laptop. Can anyone confirm that there is actually a M 2 port inside ? I believe yes since I watched a few videos, but the laptop seller's website does not talk about it, so i'm confused. Is there any better SSD than another for compatibilty with the 792G ? I would like to use it as my main drive with Windows on UEFI in it, and the HDD I had will be used for storage. Same goes for RAM, what is the maximum RAM supported by this laptop ?

How can I upgrade RAM in Acer Aspire Z1-611?

A:upgrade RAM in Acer Aspire Z1-611

There isn't much information about how to do this... But, essentially this machine has a single memory slot that comes from the factory with 4GB, which you can remove and replace with an 8GB module. Suppliers like Crucial and Kingston offer the correct specification. However, the hard part is opening up the unit and replacing the memory. It's not straightforward, which explains why Acer don't provide instructions. It's probably best done by an experienced computer technician- but for those wanting to do the upgrade themselves here are the steps: 1. With the unit turned off and disconnected find a table to work at. Turn the unit over, face down, and place it on something soft that won't scratch the screen or generate static. A wool blanket or something like that should do.2. Prise off the small square white plastic cover above the stand. You should be able to do this with your fingers - don't use a screwdriver because you'll scratch the plastic surface.3. With the cover off, you'll see the HDD. The are two Philips screws that hold the HDD and its caddy into the back of the unit. Unscrew the two screws and keep them safe.4. Slide the HDD across, you will feel it come away from the SATA interface. You will then be able to lift the HDD out. Handle it with care, put it with the screws somewhere safe.5. Now to prise the back off... You don't need any tools for this. Looking round the gap between the front and back mouldings, gently pull each mould away from each other. Slowly work round all the edges, the back will come away from the front and you will be able to lift the back away from the front.6. When you lift the back off, you'll see it comes away with the DVD drive. There is a data cable and power cable from the DVD to the processing unit. Gently pull the cables off the motherboard which is visible through gaps in the shielding. Lift the back plastic clear and put it somewhere safe.7. There are 4 screws holding the processing unit (motherboard in its shielding) against the front moulding. Unscrew these screws and keep them safe. You will now be able to lift the unit clear of the plastic front - however it will still be connected to the micro speakers, camera, ground wires and power on/off cables. Only disconnect what is absolutely essential and then turn the unit over to reveal the underside of the motherboard.8. There are 5 screws that hold the motherboard into metal shield. Undo these and keep them safe with the other screws. Then, work the motherboard out of the shield (USB and other connectors protrude through it) and you will then be able to remove the memory! Only do this if you are an experienced PC engineer. These instructions are given on the basis that I take no responsibility for the end result or for any inaccuracies. This is fiddly and complex work and it will be easy to damage wires and plugs if you are not experienced.

Hey all,

I was wondering if at all it was possible to upgrade my Acer Aspire 5810T laptop.

Help and advice appreciated

A:Possible to upgrade Acer Aspire CPU?

The best way to increase performance in this laptop is to increase system memory to the max allowed. If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, 4GB total memory is allowed. For a 64-bit Windows, 8GB is max allowed. There are a total of 2 memory slots for two 2GB DDR3 1066 modules or two 4GB DDR3 1066 modules. Upgrading CPU's if possible, won't do much for increased performance

Hi

My dad has an Acer Aspire SA-80 and wants to upgrade to a decent graphics card but as its AGP i suggested a new Motherboard....

now what we plan to do is:-
new motherboard with PCI-E 16x
nVidia (XFX) 8800GS Graphics Card
2Gb DDR2 RAM (2x1Gb is better isnt it for dual channel work?)

OFFTOPIC: he wants to play flight-sim x (2006) and also needs a good joystick

has anyone had any experience upgrading one of these SA-80's?

im concerned about the case size for the graphics card

ALSO - does the 8800GS require its own power supply? (meaning new PSU also)

any advice greatly appreciated

thanks

As it says on the tin. I know the general benefits to going to SSD over HDD, which is why I'm considering it.

I want to know two things, but before that here's my Laptop's specs:

Acer Aspire E1-771-6496
i5-3230M 2.60GHz (3.2GHz overclocked)
6GB DDR3 RAM
500GB HDD
WIN10 (Upgraded from WIN7)

What I want to know:

1) Are there SSDs made for Aspire laptops?
2) Can I copy the data from HDD boot drive (including the OS) to the new SSD?
A little backstory: The reason why I'm seriously considering this is because last Christmas my Computer decided that then was the perfect time to have a stroke and my copy of WIN7 got corrupted.

DAMN YOU PAVLOV!!!

I had no means of backing up my data because I was caught completely unawares. Now, 8 months later, I am determined to have that never happen again!

HI,

I am looking to upgrade the GPU on this PC but I am unsure if the PSU will be able to support it. I am not looking to install a high end GPU only a low end card such as ASUS 2 GB AMD Radeon R7 240-2GD3-L PCIe. I am aware that the PSU has a max of 220w but I am unsure of the current load. Based on the basic system with no current upgrades are you able to advise me on this?

Basic specs are:

Windows 7 64 Bit
Intel Core i3 2120
6GB Ram
Intel HD Integrated Graphics
2 HD (1 SATA 1GB)
1 Optical Drive
Realtek HD Audio

If necessary I am able to disconnect 1 HD and the optical drive as they are not necessary, also to disable the onboard graphics if possible if this will help.

Hi:
For the past week or so, I started using old Acer with XP Media which is very slow to load any of programs, particularly I.E. 8/SP3.

I looked at Local Disk/C and found only 34 GB total size with 512 Ram. I plan to upgrade 1 GB Ram/memory. However, I have no idea of upgrade to HD, 75 GB. I want to use 'External HD' as much, because I'm no way to tinker deep inside PC, such as HD, although I did upgrade Ram on a different PC with a success.

Should I use 'External HD' to compensate it? If possible, what sort of External HD would be recommendable?

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Upgrade HD in Old Acer PC using External HD?

If you think it is slow now, it is going to be REALLY slow when using an external drive. USB 2 drives are very slow compared to an internal drive.

If you want a faster drive, then install an internal drive OR take it to a shop and have it done. Externals are really for storing data files, image backups, etc; not for installing programs.

Acer mailed two disks for their activation Upgrade mailed Acer WIn Upgrade kit a clean copy of Win and a driver apps menu disk Acer mailed Upgrade activation The folder has what looks like a standard MS product key sticker labeled quot Win Vista HmPrm - Win HmPrm UPG Fulfill Acer Group quot One user with same Acer model decided not to upgrade from Vista so we attempted to clean install Acer mailed Upgrade activation his copy on roommate's identical Acer model just purchased whose Upgrade Kit was only ordered yesterday The key was refused after installation I strongly suspect this is because the Upgrade key is somehow coded to the Vista OEM key embedded on the intended machine's mobo We will wait for the arrival of the key linked to this machine to activate The first user decided after seeing Win to go ahead with the Upgrade from Vista and the product key installed straightaway on the machine it was issued for proving Upgrade keys are tied to the Vista OEM on these Acer machines

A:Acer mailed Upgrade activation

That's good news,. usually they're sent like this:

two disks "upgrade assistant" and "upgrade option

They're almost forcing you into doing as upgrade rather than a "clean" install.

I have an Acer Aspire R7-571. On the specs sheet it says that the RAM memory can be extented up to 12 GB of RAM. Can I still put 16 Meg RAM? Would it help to have more or would it be a problem? Right now I Have 2 x 4 GB. Thanks

A:Acer Aspire R7-571 RAM memory upgrade

First, you shouldn't need more than 8GB total unless you're doing something REMARKABLY memory-intensive. My high-end desktop has 8GB, and it would be cheap and easy for me to change that to 16GB, but it's simply not worth it. 8GB is fine for 98% of people, whether your uses include office work, Internet browsing, or even high-end gaming. If you DO really need more than 8GB, I think you'll be limited to 12GB. On the R7, 4GB tends to be soldered onto the motherboard. You can replace your other 4GB SODIMM with an 8GB SODIMM for 12GB total. You can always get a torx screwdriver and open it up for a look. But you should be fine with 8. If you're looking for a performance boost, according to that spec sheet you've linked, the R7-571 in your country didn't include any SSD. You should have an empty MSATA port that you can use with an MSATA SSD. Moving your Windows from the 1TB HDD to a MSATA SSD will make it far more responsive.

Greetings! I've been trying to upgrade the ram my old Acer Aspire x3910 (OEM) and I've run into a few problems along the way: The mobo is a wg43m with latest bios according to acer support the Ami P01-B2. So ,originally it had 2 samsung sticks 2x2gb ddr3 1333mhz PC3-10660  cl9 M378B5773DH0-CH9. Those run at dual channel at 667mhz each. (Despite the fact that acer claims that the supported ram is 1066mhz.) The new rams I purchased Kingston ValueRAM 2GB DDR3-1333MHz (KVR13N9S6/2) has the same features, yet it isn't accepted from the mobo and keeps beeping. So I thought I should change bios settings, but to my dismay I didn't find any ram settings in the bios, or any overclocking options for that matter! Has anyone successfully upgraded a wg43m mobo before?

A:upgrade to 7 acer aspire m1100

That error code is basically a 'bad file/directory' code.
It's possible there is an issue with the drive in the laptop, or the dvd you have may be damaged.
If you burned it, I suggest burning another disc, with a very slow burn to ensure viability of the burn.

its a small form factor case but im not sure what kind of power supply will fit in it only micro atx or will regular atx work as well there in no little switch in the back and it has the little 115 number in the back.

i upgraded my main computer so there are spares i can use for this x1700
i have a Q6600 G0
2x1gb Corsair DHX and 2x2gb patriot Ram
i have a corsair R60 but due to "issues" im not going to use it.

do you reckon it'd be ok to put the Q6600 and 1 patriot stick in?
and are all LGA heatink mounting holes in the same position or do acer change them?

A:upgrade acer aspire x1700

It may work, that chipset can support the Core 2 Quad processors but it depends if Acer BIOS has support for it. The mounting holes will likely be standard so if you have a better heatsink you can use it unless the Acer cooler fits better for the smaller Acer case. Probably would be wise to update the motherboard's BIOS from the Acer website before swapping CPU's just in case the BIOS adds additional CPU support and any other fixes such as improved memory compatibility.

Same for the RAM, the unit supports 2 x 2GB DDR2 RAM so it should work unless the memory requires much higher voltage to work then the stock voltages.

Whats wrong with the SSD? You may want to update its firmware to the latest version, fully erase it and give it another shot - an SSD will make a very nice improvement for this system.

When you sign up for these computer companies to send you a copy of windows 7 when it's available does anyone know what they'll actually be sending you? Do they just send you a windows 7 installation DVD like you'd buy from newegg or do they send you their own version(like a recovery DVD) with all the bloatware?

I really just wanna do a clean install with no whistles/crap.

A:Acer windows 7 free upgrade?

I guess no one knows for sure until it happens, I assume it will be a W7 upgrade DVD, similar to the ones you can purchase. I seriously doubt they will customize it with bloatware, but who knows for sure.

i currently have an acer 5517-5358 and im debating a cpu upgrade.

current system:
320gb Scorpio blue hd
2x2gb hynix 6400s ram (Max Supported)
windows 7 home premium 64bit
tk-42 1.6ghz amd 64x2 dual core

avg core temps of 39-41c under normal use
i dont overclock and have never attempted due to risk of my lack of knowledge in overclocking. my computer is fairly fast (windows rating of 3.2) for what i use it for but sometimes lags when opening larger video files.

my basic questions:
-is on a scale of 1-10 how much will i notice in terms of a speed difference in the pc?
-is it worth doing since i have the know how and a few tl-64 2.2ghz amd 64x2 dual core cpus from broken dv9000s models?
-will the cpu effect my graphics any? (i assume not, due to the gpu being a main factor)

A:Acer tl-64 upgrade opinions and advice

I wouldn't bother in a laptop. The cooling was designed for that specific processor, and any change could result in overheating and possibly damage to the system. OEM laptops aren't meant to be upgraded (in terms of CPUs).

I'd save the money towards a new laptop.

Hello all,

I have searched and can't find this specific topic. My Acer Aspire One ZA3 came with XP installed and I want to upgrade to Windows7. Has anybody tried it and is it possible thanks. I have my own copy of Windows7 (OEM Disk), but am not sure about the disk structure Acer use when they deliver the machines.

Any advice of help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
