Preferred Solution: Crackling sound in downloaded videos

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Crackling sound in downloaded videos

Have you tried transferring the video to other PC and see if it works fine? the program you used to play the video may be the culprit.

When i'm playing videos the sound starts becoming very crackly and buzzy. I checked my CPU usage because my old laptop used to do this due to CPU spikes, but it's still sitting between 0-5%. The laptop is only a few months old and it's been doing this for about a fortnight now. Also when i'm playing back a screen recording it does the same thing, but at the same point every time so it's obviously recorded the crackling. Any idea what it could be?

A:Sound Starts Crackling And Breaking Up During Videos And Screen Record

I had them same problem with my speakers in my old laptop. The difference was the speakers were about 3 years old. But could be the problem with your's, build up of dust or something. Try plugging in an external speaker or something and see how that goes.

A:No sound on downloaded videos off camera

" i think perhaps I used AVCHD LIte for the videos that the sound won't download and Motion JPEG for the videos that the sound does download...so presumably they need to be downloaded differently?"

You cannot correct the problem by "downloading them differently" as you put it. If you used the wrong recording mode you cannot change it for those video files after the fact. You're not getting any sound from those recorded in AVCHD because you have no suitable codec or compatible media player installed, but there's an easy fix.

Download VLC media player & install it: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

VLC should be able to play all your videos (including all those taken with your Lumix in both AVCHD & Motion JPEG) with sound on all of them where applicable.

A:Crackling/popping when watching videos and browsing

We had a similar problem on my dads computer. He was also using on-board audio. The audio jack on his computer had gone bad. I'm not really sure what caused it, but for $20USD we got a new sound card from Best Buy that was better than the on-board sound ever was. That might not be the kind of solution you are looking for, but it's better than that annoying popping/crackling noise.

Hi folks,

Recently I was setting up a VPN client (PacketIX), and the setup wizard suggested some Audio/Video Streaming "Optimization" tweaks. I didn't pay attention and confirmed.

Since then, I often hear some crackling / popping noises. For instance, this systematically occurs when I Alt/Tab between a running game and my desktop.

An obvious guess is that the damn VPN client messed up some sound settings, but I can't figure out what to do.

I've found a good deal of DPC latency workarounds around here which I tried in vain.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

A:[Sound crackling ] VPN client messed up my sound settings

Try a system restore to before you installed the VPN client. (System Restore)

Then reinstall the VPN client and don't let it fiddle with the audio settings.

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

A:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

In the last week, all sound on my laptop has started to crackle slightly. I changed headphones, but realized that thats not the problem. If i increase volume, the crackling gets worse, and distortion really sets in. Strange....only started happening last week. I have tried reinstalling my sound card driver, but no change there. Have looked around all my audio settings but cant find any clues. music etc is still listenable, but there is just a faint crackle constantly annoying me. and distortion if i turn the volume up louder.

Does this mean my sound card is wearing out?? or is it a physical prob inside?

my sound card is : Conexant AC link audio
i have windows xp home edition on a HP compaq nx4800

any help would be much appreciated!!

I'm running Windows XP and have a prob with movie files on the internet.

If I click on a WMV or MPG file on the internet (eg from extremefunnyhumor.com) it plays OK in Windows Media Player but I'm having a problem when I right-click and "save target as". The file seems to download OK and even appears in the destination folder but then it disappears.

Even running a search for the file shows nothing. I can save it from WMP but would rather just "save target as".

Any ideas?

Hello,

I took some pics and videos using my digital camera...i transfered everything to my computer and am able to look at the pics but not watch the videos....can someone please help..

A:Watching videos downloaded from camera!!

I'm only guessing here, but I think that either it's the format of the video itself that the computer does not recognize, or that your codec's are not up to date.
If it's the first problem, then I think it can be solved either by using the software that came with the camera or by using a video converter to convert the video to the more 'friendly' formant (.avi, .wmv etc)
If it's the second problem, then follow this link http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/codec/ and download and install it, which will bring you up to scratch. Hopefully this helps.

Hi i don't know if this is the right area to ask this question but move it if its not.

I am using a laptop windows 7 and my problem is that when i download video from Firefox or IE using realplayer downloader and convert them, it doesn't convert the whole video. I used any program possible including Super video converter which i have on my desktop computer. This happened recently and i was able to convert videos fully in the past until this happened. For example when i download a video which was 16min long and after when i converted it the output video was 36 seconds. My desktop is running on vista and videos i download off there and converted comes out fine. Please help if anyone know what the problem might be.

Hi, I have an ongoing problem with my PC which is running Vista. Whenever I try to play a video (which could be either one I have recorded with a digital camera, or an iTunes paid for download), the sound plays fine but the video is displayed twice (i.e. the video is displayed twice, side by side) with constant flickering making it impossible to watch. I have reinstalled iTunes to get the latest Quicktime etc, but have no idea what is causing this. If anyone can shed any light I'd be most grateful as I'm totally stuck. Thanks, John

I have successfully downloaded video files from my camera aPanasonic-DMC-FZ38 onto my computer. (windows xp)
It suggested viewing them through a program on my computer so I tried Windows Media(as reccommended).
The message that came up said 'The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.'
This all means absolutely nothing to me!
The files are called : thumb.TDT and thumb.TID

A:viewing videos downloaded from my camera

"The files are called : thumb.TDT and thumb.TID"

They do not appear to be movie files using any format that I'm familiar with.
They are more likely to be just the "thumbnail" files (the little pictures you see on the camera screen which represent each video).

If that's what they are, no media player can play them because those files are not playable.
Are you sure you downloaded the correct files off the camera?

I have a windows 8 laptop and I have downloaded some home movies from a dvd onto my computer. A:How to edit videos downloaded on the computer

The software you use will vary on the source file type. Assuming they are dvd spec video discs, you simply need to COPY the the files (ie: the audio_ts and video_ts folders and all files within) to your HDD.

There are numerous guides over at videohelp.

NOTE: There will be a rather large learning curve involved. Don't get intimidated. Take your time and you will figure it all out.

how much ram does your pc have? if it's less than 256 on xp then that can cause this type of problem. if this is the case then you can go to www.blackviper.com and go through his tutorial on xp and that will help free up the ram. Also download latest drivers for your sound device. if you have onboard sound the drivers will be located on the manufactures site for the mainboard or pc if you have a namebrand ie dell, hp. If you installed a soundcard then you'll have to go to the soundcard manufacturer's site to get the latest set of drivers. you probably know where to find your driver's but I add this info just in case you do not.

Hi jpg, Welcome to the Forum.

It might be best if you visit your motherboard manufacturers website to download the drivers. They might not be the newest but could be specialized for your particular board.

Yesterday my sound was fine, i havnt installed any new software at all for ages. Today i turned my pc on and all the sounds are crackling even the normal windows sounds. I tried a new set of speakers and still the same problem. I updated my NVIDIA nForce Audio drivers and still the same. I checked all the sound settings and everything is fine, they are the same as they always been.

Any suggestions???

Please help, thanks!

u said all the settings were the same but u may have missed this, check to see if your sound settings are set for digital out instead of analog....if you dont have digital speakers and it is, all you will hear is crackling.

Hello all I have a refurbished Toshiba Satellite L D laptop that I got exactly a year ago Lately I've been having a problem where the sound goes crackly and even distorted when playing and up until today I thought it was just me playing sounds too early because it would always go away a few minutes after start up Today it stayed around for minutes before I rebooted After that it seemed normal at first even the startup sound wasn't distorted but about an hour later there is still at last some crackling in my music It doesn't just happen with window's media player but youtube as well and it first started to show up around october when I played Skyrim I just blamed how much memory the game takes up I've tried disabling the enhancements which seemed to be the solution for most others with this problem I have done virus scans I have even used the task manager to end some non essential processes that took up memory I have noticed in my searches that most reporting similar problems found it got WORSE the longer the computer was on while in my case it's usually at its worst around startup

I have a crackling noise in my sound. I went to personalize and went to look for Start Navigation settings and it has a question mark in a yellow sign. What does that mean??

I need to fix this problem.

Thanks.

I had crackling sound problem in my old computer, and now after building new one it still exist. All parts are new except RAM.

When I watch video without pausing it there wont be any crackling, if i pause/play it fast there will be popping/crackling sound. Problem is pretty bad in Mumble/teamspeak when there is few people speaking, same in many games when there is many different audio sources to play. Crackling and popping really makes gaming with friends annoying...

I have tried different headphones, fresh install windows, new audio drivers.

Here is few videos I recorded (using speakers)
in this video i turn volume completely off and then back on

and this i only adjust volume low/high (pretty fast)

Hello!
I have had this problem for quite a long time but I am getting enough from it.

Basicly nearly always when I start playing any sound source there is crackling in sound at begining. Happens usually with high frequenzy sounds, adjusting volume on youtube videos or click rewinding youtube video fast, also usually when I close video there that annoying sound occurs.
So basicly, always when someone talks in Mumble or I click to play video there is that annoying crackling/popping, it doesnt last long. Only when sound starts playing.

Here is some pictures you might find helpful

First off welcome to SF. Second with sounds I would double check all your connections. Most often this is the pin making poor contact or even the beginning of a wire breaking down maybe from a bend or crimp. Then I would uninstall and reinstall the most current audio drivers and as well go to the mono mfgrs. site to check for other driver updates and lastly read to see if any bios updates deal with sound issues.

Hi, I have had my X-540's for a a while but they have one problem. They make a crackling noise if the games audio settings are not turned down. It applies to everything really... Music, games, anything. I can't have winamp at 100% or else they crack and I was playing UT3 and the game's volume setting was at 60% and it was still cracking very bad at some times. I have a VIA HD audio card built into my ASUS M4A77D mobo. Driver version 6.0.1.7600 if that helps at all. One weird thing is that I cannot get it to utilize my 5.1 sound system properly. I have to keep it on 2.1 sound to make it sound the closest to normal. (I still have 5.1 sound) Really starting to not like VIA..

If it was the updated driver that is causing the problem, you can go to the Device Manager and in the Properties for your sound device you can click on the Driver tab and the select the option to "Rollback Driver" which will revert it back to the old driver.

Hi team

I have a surroundsound system which I've plugged into my speaker/headphone output.

I don't expect it to work in full surround sound put when i put it into surroundsound mode the extra speakers crackle and then cut out, and the whole system stops making any noise. It only works with surround sound feature disabled on the soundsystem.

I have looked into the sound settings on my laptop and it doesn't give me the option of any satellite speakers, that box is just greyed out.

Does anyone who knows more than me about sound systems (not very difficult) know how I can make use of my extra speakers?

Cheers

The RealTek would be your PC's sound device. NVIDIA is for HDMI only. I don't know what you have for the USB device, but that may be interferring and causing some of the problems.

However, the PC "optimizer" (also know as registry repairers, PC speed up, etc) can do many things that device drivers along cannont fix. Ultimately it may take a complete reinstall to get the PC operating fully and properly.

The first thing, is the USB device, disconnect it temporarily, restart the PC and see if that makes any difference. Also, if you are not using the Acer supplied RealTek sound driver, get that and install it. Generally the PC Vendor's driver is the preferred driver.

Popping and crackling has been an issue with some. Wi-Fi is one known cause. Old drivers are another, for both the sound and video. Some system monitor and configuration programs can also cause this. The is no "one fix", from what I've seen - on the Windows 7 forum and the Dell users forum. Its not as prevalent as it was but there are still occasional reports of problems.

Sadly, the DPC Latency Checker is not valid for Windows 8 so that very useful tool for trying to track the problem down, can't be used.

A:Sound Distortion and Crackling

The noise problem was a common problem on Win 7, and to a lesser extent on Win 8. There isn't a "one fix" for the problem. Some of the problems can be traced to sound drivers, others to Video drivers, power supply, etc.

Suggest you download and run the Resplendence Latency Mon program. That may get you in the right area.
Resplendence Software - Advanced System Tools and Developer Components

A side note, if you are using the SoundBlaster, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS to avoid conflicts. Unlike Windows XP, newer Windows only allows one default audio playback device.

A:sound distorted and crackling

That is a pretty old system; at least 3 generations of intel cpu. As to what is causing the problem, it can be a failing audio chip on the board, corrupted drivers, etc.

You can remove all audio drivers and install the driver from realtek and see if that helps.

I assume you have already checked speaker connections and tried the speakers on another system to see if it is a speaker problem or a problem with your system.

As for buying a sound card and disabling the onboard sound, that is fine however I would not be putting too much money into that old of a system. Do not buy one of the expensive creative sound cards; just get a basic one from newegg.

I just downloaded UUSee and it deleted my pictures and videos from my Desktop. I am wondering if I can get those pictures and videos back somehow?? Also, do I have a virus on my computer because of what happened? I have not tried system restore or safe mode yet, I am waiting to hear what to do for the best possible way to regain my pictures and videos hopefully.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am using Windows XP Home, 2002 Version, Service Pack 1.

Thank you again in advance!

Hi,
My laptop has developed a problem recently when I play a video. After about 30 seconds or so the sound starts to crackle and eventually I get no sound. At about the same time the video starts to slow down. If I stop the video and start another one everythings ok at first, then that one slows down and the sound goes as well.
Anyone got any ideas why, please.
Thanks, Johnaldo

A:crackling sound and slow response

There are many possible causes as to why this phenomenon happens. What kind of videos do you refer to? Does it happens on audio files playing? What particular laptop model do you use? Have you tried reinstalling/updating the video, audio and network adapters? Any changes or observation before this happen?

Good day,

before of you read, sorry for my bad english :D

ok, i have the old pc HP Compaq 6735s oldiest model and have problem.. I have the headset Plantronics .Audio 655 DSP... Its USB (no Jack) headset, but sound is crackly and randomly.. Microphone is good, no problem, also speakers... I tested in another pc, and work correctly (Win 7), also in WIN XP not installed drivers.. I telled the makers of headset and reply is here:

Quote:

So in the Windows 8 now it does not work? It was not an XP as I said? In that case it is most likely incompatible. Think about that the headset is made years ago while Windows 8 just released. Contact Microsoft and check if they have any updates to the USB drivers that will be able to use older USB devices?

I tested reinstall USB drivers, not work.. I tested install sound drivers, but for Win 8 not found...

A:Windows 8: Speakers have crackling sound

Hello GAMELASTER and welcome to TSF,

Your USB headset does not rely on the Audio chipset.

The Plantronics website touts it as not needing software... I can't find any issues similar to yours by searching the WWW, so I have no base to work from.

Just so I am clear... You are running Windows 8 on a Compaq 6735s?

Try using a different USB port.

Have you had any other issues since upgrading to Windows 8?

Good day everyone. I have this problem in my netbook wherein every time I played audio files using Media Player or VLC, the sound is not good. Sometimes it stops, make a crackling/scratchy sound, and/or lags. And also, when I play music using the two applications and at the same time doing other things such as browsing the web, typing in Word, doing presentation in PowerPoint, and or editing pictures using Photoshop, the sound is not good. Additionally, it also occurs when I play videos in YouTube and other sites.

What should I do? Is there any problem with my player or my system?

Thank you guys.

A:Crackling/Scratchy Sound in my Netbook

Your problem, crackling/scratchy, has been reported by many. There is no "one fix" for the problem. Some things that can contribute to this is sound drivers, video drivers, defective power supply, etc.

First suggestion, make sure you are using the PC vendor's supplied sound driver. If you have the PC vendor's sound driver, check for an updated version, and if there is no updated versrion, reinstall the current version. Non vendor sound drivers can either not work or not work correctly.

Wi-Fi is another known cause. Temporarily disable Wi-Fi and see how audio plays.

Hello everyone!

Hello all,

My sound had recently become stuttery, crackling, and sort of metallic sounding, maybe 'tinny' is the word. This is an issue both through HDMI and headphones. I've tried reinstalling and updating my drivers, I've cleaned a fairly nasty bit of dust from between the heatsink and fan, I've ran LatencyMon which prompted me to try DriverBooster which installed things I was sure I already had, and finally I've flashed the BIOS to the latest version. I'm not getting immediate audio issues at the moment but LatencyMon still reports in the 'red' on 'process latency', ISR and DPC 'routine execution times'. When idle I still get high 'hard pagefault resolution time'. Among the culprits, according to LatencyMon, are USBPORT.SYS, tcpip.sys, ndis.sys, ataport.sys and HDAudBus.sys. I did read that some of these monitoring programs incorrectly report activity on Windows 8 so maybe I HAVE fixed it? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

A:DPC issues, crackling sound, not sure if solved

Stuttering, crackling, etc has been an issue in Win 7 and to a lesser degree in Win 8, from posts I've seen. There is no "one fix" for the problem. Drivers are one area that has helped, both the Sound drivers and Video drivers. Wi-Fi connections are another known cause. Another issue is that sound is considered a "low priority" Interrupt device and is placed on a Shared Interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device. The sound can be "interrupted" by the higher priority device and thus stuttering.

Latency Mon is supposed to work in Win 8, but DPC latency may or may not show sound problems. The DPC Latency Checker is NOT Win 8 compatible. I have a recording studio and very attuned to audio latency problems, not "system" latency problems that the DPC latency programs address.

Finding the problem will take a bit of time. First issue is the sound driver. You should have the correct sound driver supplied by the Motherboard vendor (preferred driver).

A:crackling sound at higher volume

It sounds like a bad connection somewhere but only close visual investigation will tell you if it`s something simple like a loose jack or damaged wire or whether it`s possibly more in-depth like a `dry joint` on a PCB (mobo or inside the speaker)

Another possibility is that it`s picking up interference although that often happens at lower volumes as well so I doubt if it`s that but it`s worth checking the immediate area for potentials.

Latest driver download listed above - the general procedure for updating sound drivers is to uninstall the old driver firstly, reboot, then install the new driver - driver version listed : 1.04.0090

If that doesnt work or you already have that driver you could enable your onboard audio and download the driver for it here :
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P7H55-M LX

Or search using the manual search for a vista 32 bit driver and try this if it doesnt install normally, and produces an error (we were doing this all the time with beta versions of w7 with a high sucess) :

To install a driver/program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Hey all,

So my laptop has been rampant with terrible sound lately. It's extremely choppy and lags very often. This happens no matter what I'm doing on any program; I can be on YouTube, playing a game, listening to iTunes, etc. Even the Windows start jingle will sound absolutely horrendous with what's been happening to my laptop. What could be happening to it?

I have an Asus F8Sp laptop. I'm not sure what specs would be relevant to this issue, but here goes the basics:

Windows 7
3GB RAM
250 GB Hard Disk
ATI Radeon 3650 Mobility
Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0G

Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to watch Obama's health care speech and he sounds like a broken robot.

Also, I've tried my best to update drivers. It may be relevant that my computer has been getting really hot lately, but it might just be in my head.

Hi guys,

I have an E-System 1211 laptop and I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from Windows Vista.

Since this upgrade - all sounds (including music, windows sounds etc) on my laptop have started to crackle and distort - even through external speakers and headphones, so i'm pretty sure its nothing to do with my laptop speakers..?

I'm pretty clueless to be honest, all sound was working fine before I upgraded to 7. I can still hear all sounds okay, but the crackle and distortion is really beginning to irritate me.

Not sure if i've posted this in this right place - but i'd be very grateful if for a solution.

Cheers.

Oh - and I have just discovered that the crackling seems to get worse when I'm running on the laptop battery and not from the power point.
