My laptop won't connect to the internet -- only will in safe mode

Q: My laptop won't connect to the internet -- only will in safe mode

How do I solve this? I have the following anti virus/malware programmes (I realise I probably have to uninstall some as I have too many, but which ones shall I uninstall?):

avast
spybot - search & destroy
malwarebytes
superantispyware

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: My laptop won't connect to the internet -- only will in safe mode

First, let's see about accessing the net itself - -

get a command prompt (start->run->cmd OR start->search->cmd)

enter PING 8.8.8.8
and then PING GOOGLE.COM

both of these should show timing results and neither should timeout or have errors.

post back with your results.

A few weeks ago, my wife's laptop had a problem with malware. Microsoft security essentials took care of it. After that she ran a full scan. Ever since she ran that full scan, she can only connect to the internet in safe mode. Other than that, her computer seems to be working fine.

She has Windows 7 and Internet explorer 8.

You are most likely looking at a driver issue. Tell us the make of your laptop.

A few weeks ago my wife's laptop had some malware. She ran a microsoft security essentials scan and that got rid of it. However, microsoft security essentials kept popping up warning about the malware it had already removed. So she ran a full scan that confirmed the malware was taken care of.

Since she ran the full scan, she's only been able to connect to the internet in safe mode.

Someone on another message board suggested a driver problem. We attempted to download the drivers to no avail--for various reasons the drivers won't download. In any case I don't think that's the problem...Dell states the drivers are only applicable to systems I don't think her computer has.

Other than that, her computer seems to be working fine.

She has a Windows XP, Internet Explorer 7. I think her laptop is an inspiron.

Hello. then do a safe mode scan next. Reboot into Safe Mode with Networking How to enter safe mode(XP/Vista)Using the F8 MethodRestart your computer. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu. Select the option for Safe Mode with Networking using the arrow keys. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode. Next run Superantisypware (SAS): Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home UsersDouble-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation. An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the Scanning Control tab.Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):Close browsers before scanning.Scan for tracking cookies.Terminate memory threats before quarantining.Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer. After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.Click Close to exit the program. If you have a problem downloading, installing or getting SAS to run, try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then double-click on it to launch and scan. The file is randomly named to help keep malware from blocking the scanner.>>>Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit. Now reboot to Normal and run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. About a week ago my computer became infected with the Spyware Quake virus spyware I have since then removed it by following a tutorial that instructed me to use a couple of programs Won't Will But It Connect Internet, Mode Safe To In called RougeScanFix Won't Connect To Internet, But It Will In Safe Mode and SmitRem They seem to have worked because I no longer get phony spyware alerts from my taskbar The only problem is that I can t connect to the internet either with a browser or any other kind of application that connects unless if I m in safe mode with networking which I m using right now I sent whoever made that malware an angry message through the technical support for that phony spyware remover The next day I could not connect to the internet does the programmer for this thing have that much power once I am infected It happened literally over night I could connect to the internet while I was infected Won't Connect To Internet, But It Will In Safe Mode with Won't Connect To Internet, But It Will In Safe Mode the malware and I sent the message and turned it off for the rest of the day and the next time I turned my computer on it says server not found but ocasionaly it says invalid syntax or something like that Since I have no problems in safe mode I assume that there is an uninvited file blocking my connections There are no other noticable problems the tutorial I followed worked very well Anyone have any suggestions or is anyone else experiencing this problem I really don t feel like re-imaging my computer

A:Won't Connect To Internet, But It Will In Safe Mode

Hello spasm attackIn order to have a deeper look as to what's going on with your system we need to create a hijackthis log. This will help us to identify and remove any malware files that may be responsible for your problems. Please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". When you have done that, post a log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, not here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post the log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. Please include the top portion of the HijackThis log that lists version information. An expert will analyze your log and reply with instructions advising you what to fix.It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy. Please be patient as they are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have no replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, a team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. If after 5 days you still have received no response, then post a link to your HJT log here. After posting a log you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files on your own, etc.) unless advised by a HJT Team member. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modification you make may complicate the malware removal process and could adversely affect your system..

I have an HP computer with XP Media Center OS. For 2 days now it will only connect to the Internet in Safe mode. I am using PCcillin 2006 AV, it has not blocked Internet access. I downloaded & ran the AVG 7.5 Trial, it found some tracking cookies but nothing else. I have another computer, running XP Pro, on a LAN with this computer that connects just fine. My Windows Firewall is turned off, my PCcillin firewall is functioning. Would appreciate any help or suggestions you guys might offer.
***I solved the problem by reinstalling PCcillin. The firewall had glitched somehow. When I turned it off & turned on the XP firewall I could connect to the Internet. Thanks anyway.***

Hello,

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows 7 32 bit and a few weeks ago this laptop ceased to connect to the internet outside of safe mode with networking. I have searched through numerous forums and found many people with similar problems but none of the solutions seemed to work for me. I'll list what I can remember trying to try and help with a solution.

-I have reset IE
-I have tried a clean boot
-I've scanned for malware and viruses in normal and safe mode, all clean

I also have a second laptop running windows 7 64 bit that connects just fine. The Dell that does not work detects the internet in normal mode but gives an error message saying "the device or resource won't accept the connection"

I really appreciate any help that anyone can give.

Hello Amisshdj & Welcome to SevenForums

What kind of software did you scan for Malware?
- I suggest Malwarebytes
Do you have any virtual private network (VPN) configured? (Programs like Log me in Hamachi, used to connect two (or more) computers while playing on Local Area Network (LAN), which it's actually ain't. It's just a regular network.)

Do you have any software that could block your connection?

Welcome again!
Best Regards,
FredeGail

Hello, goldenleafrose. to BleepingComputer.comMy name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer. Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken. Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen. We need to create a Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) LogPlease download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from one of the links below and save to your Desktop.Primary MirrorSecondary Mirror

DSS will do the following:Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review.Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes.Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using Deckard's System Scanner.Close all applications and windows.Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts. If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious. When the scan is complete, two text files will open in Notepad:main.txt <-- Will be maximizedextra.txt <-- Will be minimizedIf not, they both can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder. Please copy (<Control>+C) and paste (<Control>+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.Note: When running DSS, some firewalls may warn that DSS is trying to access the Internet; especially if you are asked to download the most current version of HijackThis. Please ensure that DSS is given permission to access the internet.Note: If you get a warning from your anti-virus while DSS is scanning, please allow DSS to continue as the scan is not harmful.Billy3

Hi,
I've been trying for hours to fix a computer that was loaded with malware and now seems to come clean in all the scans I do but still won't connect to the internet. I'm fixing it for someone who bought it used and it doesn't seem to have genuine windows, but he has all his important business records on it. I've used ComboFix, SD Fix, Malwarebytes, AVG, Avast, Dr. Web Cure-all and have removed alot of malware but still no deal as far as the internet is concerned. In normal mode that is.

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Hi I have to safe internet unless mode in connect Cant a little problem with my flatmates laptop Originally it just wouldn t display web pages but since then it has developed another problem Firstly the laptop would not display web pages It connected to the internet but didnt display any sites At first I thought Cant connect to internet unless in safe mode this might be something to do with our wireless network router so I checked the other computers on the network and they all worked fine I Cant connect to internet unless in safe mode checked all off the details on the laptop IP address etc they were all as they were meant to be I then tried to ping the router and then google again worked fine The internet worked fine when connected by cable to the modem just not wirelessly I installed my wireless adapter onto the laptop and tried to connect exactly the same problem I ran Adaware and Spybot between them they found a number of items which I removed and tried again to no avail I then installed Norton Internet Security there was no antivirus installed on the system It installed fine but will not run It doesnt start up with windows and when I try opening it from the desktop it gives me the error messge quot Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close quot I figured this might be due to a virus already on the laptop so I ran just norton antivirus Run - gt navw L It found problems and fixed them but it still gives me the same error message The internet now no longer works by connecting it by cable to the modem which I assume is due to nortons firewall blocking it but I cannot change this as norton internet security wont open I cannot uninstall norton as it gives the same error message This all said the internet works fine in safe mode both wired and wireless Norton Internet Security gives the same error message I would like to remove Norton and if possible get the laptop to connect wirelessly again nbsp

Hi and welcome. There is a removal tool on the Symantec website that should help you uninstall it.

I've had some computer problems over the last few days (bad display driver..reinstalled but still not working properly) and every time I went into safe mode, I could not connect to the internet to get some help. Does anyone know what I need to change so that I can get online in safe mode?

Still having the blinking screen problem and probably wont be able to stay online for much longer so i'm not sure what else to do.

thanks!

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download DrWeb-CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to open the program and click Start. (There is no need to update if you just downloaded the most current versionRead the Virus check by DrWeb scanner prompt and click Ok where asked to Start scan now? Allow the setup.exe to load if asked by any of your security programs. The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders). If prompted to dowload the Full version Free Trial, ignore and click the X to close the window. If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All.When complete, click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable.
(This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)Now put a check next to Complete scan to scan all local disks and removable media. In the top menu, click Settings > Change settings, and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis" under the "Scanning" tab, then click Ok.Back at the main window, click the green arrow "Start Scanning" button on the right under the Dr.Web logo. When the scan is complete, a message will be displayed at the bottom indicating if any viruses were found.Click "Yes to all" if asked to cure or move the file(s) and select "Move incurable".In the top menu, click file and choose save report list.Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot. After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

I have an HP Pavillion with an Intel Celeron 2.70GHz, 504 MB with Windows XP service Pack 2. I purchased the computer from a friend a long time ago, so there are no restore disks available, and I'm afraid to do system restore, as I have never done one.
I am having trouble connecting to internet in regular mode (works only in safe mode with networking).
I have ran several programs to address viruses, malware, spyware, such as Malwarebytes, SpyBot, AVG. I've even tried a program called combofix, and things still didn't work. Please Help.

ok boot into windows normally and then open device manager and report if any items that have a ? or ! next to them. Also open command prompt and type ipconfig /all save your results to txt file and then post them here from safe mode if necessary.

Hello.

I'm using an Alienware M14x with OS Windows 7. Somehow i'm only able to connect to the internet while I'm on safe mode. The antivirus I'm using is McAfee and I've never had Norton Antivirus or other kind of antivirus. I've tried to disable McAfee firewall and windows firewall on normal mode but none of those options seems to have solved the problem.

A:Solved: I can only connect to the internet on Safe mode

Try a Clean Boot troubleshooting procedure in order to isolate the offending program blocking the Internet in Normal Mode. Run it for both Services and Startup items.

Probably going to need a lot more information from you, but let's start with the obvious. Do you have a third party firewall installed without shutting off Vista's? I'm not talking about the one with your router. If so, disconnect one of them. Also see what happens if you disable your AV.

Running PC with Vista. Unable to connect to internet even when booted in safe mode with networking.

Here are some of the things I have checked & programs I've run
Use Proxy - not checked
SuperAntiSpyware says not supported by operating system (can't remember exact words)
Spybot found nothing (scanned in less than 2 seconds)
Avast - full scan nothing found
Malwarebytes - stops working instantly. - disabled shield control still not run
Tried a couple of other DOS commands found in various forums but I finally give up.

This Laptop is connected wirelessly to the same network. PC has broadband connection so don't believe it is the router.
Please help.
Thanks

I am not sure what exactly his happening, but it is very frustrating. Everytime I try to connect to the internet, I receive "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

When I try to run the Trend Micro Internet Security program, it errors stating that "An error has interrupted the task currently in progress. Please restart your security software and try again." I get that every time.

I've ran Ad-aware and SpyBot, but neither say that it finds anything.

I have attached the HiJackThis log file in hopes that someone can help me.

Thanks

I am having a problem with my home computer involving the internet connection after a normal Windows XP boot Wireless connection looks fine and IP address is assigned but I cannot connect to any websites Also cannot recieve email from external service Internet NG, Mode = OK??? with = connect Safe Networking set up through Outlook Express When I boot using Safe Internet connect = NG, Safe Mode with Networking = OK??? Mode with Networking the internet functions with no problem Have run Adware Spybot and Norton Antivirus which supposedly cleared everything up including a couple of Trojans Ran them again after reboot and system was clean so I don t think the trojans reinstalled It is possible that my son changed a setting a setting somewhere and I have not been able to set it back to normal If you have any ideas as to what could possibly be happening diffently between the normal startup and the safe mode startup that would cause this problem I would love to hear from you By the way I have tried to change the startup using Msconfig to limit what is launched but so far no luck Sorry I am at work and can give no more specific details right now Thanks nbsp

After re-installing windows everything was fine. I got on the internet straight away and downloaded all the windowsupdates and servicepack2. After that i could no longer connect to the internet except by going into safe mode with networking.

I dont know if its related or not but windows firewall options are grayed out and at the top it says "for your security some settings are controlled by group policy" I am not on any network, and as i just reinstalled windows, i have not even reinstalled any anti-virus,firewall program yet so i have no idea why i cant connect to the internet outside of safe mode. any ideas?

thanks

Hey guys, I have a Asus G73JH laptop and I've had it for a couple years now.
Windows 7 64-bit

Two nights ago I was able to get on the internet and shut down my computer and went to bed, the next day I was only able to connect to internet while in safe mode. This includes hardwiring into the router, and the modem while in normal mode. When connected to the router wirelessly it says I'm connected without internet, however I cannot even access the router through 192.168.1.1

I've rattled my brain but this one has me stumped.

I'm trying to fix someones laptop. The wired and wireless internet won't work. The wireless card can see my home network, but after a about 30 seconds after trying to connect it says that the connection has been unsuccessful.

Since it didn't even work in safe mode I thought maybe it was something in the registry. I tried CCleaner and it didn't work.

Also tried, connecting to a different network, uninstalling the drivers (but computer keeps finding the drivers and reinstalling them) , some lines in the cmd that were supposed to reset my tcp/ip settings. I'm lost. Nothing else seems to be wrong with the computer, no other fishy activity. Thanks in advance.

btw Toshiba Satellite Win 7 x64, I have tried wireless and wired and multiple access points.

A:Can't connect to internet. Wired or Wireless. Even in safe mode.

In Safe mode few drivers are running, unless you chose Safe mode with networking, and even then it'd probably only be the ethernet port that worked anyway.

Has your router been programmed with a MAC whitelist?

Resorting to a registry scrubber isn't an awfully good idea...

Are the correct drivers onboard for ethernet and WiFi adapters?

Hi all,
I am writing because from few weeks I can not solve this problem of connection:
if the computer is in safe mode there aren't problems, while in normal mode, the following programs don't connect / update:
Internet Explorer 11, Dropbox, Malwarebytes, Mozilla Thunderbird, Flash player update, Java update, StartUp Delayer.

While Firefox, Chrome, Emsisoft Anti-Malware (Antivirus), Online Armor (firewall), and other programs work and update normally.

I've tried and tried various "solutions" found in the Web and in the Forums, but without any result.

I noticed that Dropbox and StartUp Delayer "tell" me that's is probably a Proxy problem.
I honestly have never used a proxy, and tried in every way possible to disable any proxy, but nothing changed, same issue.

I tried uninstalling antivirus and firewall, but the issue still remain, the same as resetting the connection settings and even Windows Firewall (which is usually disabled).

This problem is present both with ethernet connection and wireless.
I use a HP dv6000 notebook with Windows Professional 64bit.

I thank you if you can help me, because I really don't know how to fix this problem =/

Thank you,
Elia

A:Windows 7 - only connect to internet in Safe Mode with some softwares

I MIRACULOUSLY solved this situation!

Among the many details I forgot to say that for the connection I use a router, and after several attempts to copy the settings from a computer connected to the same network, I tried to enter the DNS entry of the parameter TCP/IPv4 (in connection properties) 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.7 ..and all began to work perfectly.

I can not explain, howeve, why the other computer works even without these two values.

But I'm happy that this (strange) situation is solved, and hope this can help someone else

Have a nice day,
Elia

As of today, 11/05/2015, Windows 7 PC used for work booted but when trying to connect (wireless and wired) got BSOD; does boot and operate in Safe mode.

I have run both Spybot and Malwarebytes but still have the same issue.

I have run the Forum's BSOD tool and have attached the file to this post.

I do have Norton.

Let me know if I can provide more information.

I appreciate your expertise with locating exactly what is the issue.

Note: the PC is used to take a course (government) which requires Explorer v9 and Windows 7.

Hi Everyone, hope someone can help. I turned on my laptop and realised I cannot connect to the internet at all by wireless or even through the ethernet cable. It shows local connection but is unable to connect to the internet. However, I can do so if I get to safe mode with networking and no other laptops in the house are exhibiting the same issues.

I have ran mcafee virus scan, malwareantibytes and spybot search and destroy and there is no virus, a few malwares which have all been removed. I have also tried running a diagnostic test and my laptop shuts down in the middle of it for no apparent reason. All the network drivers are also up to date and there are no windows updates to be installed either.

Windows firewall is not turned on either.

I'm running Windows Vista 64bit on a Dell Inspiron.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what happened or why. I was installing VZAccess Manager Software for a Blackberry and my computer froze and restarted. When I logged back on it loaded everything and then once done restarted again. After the second time I didn't have to log back on because there were no passwords in place and everything I had was deleted including system restore points. The internet will not work unless I am in safe mode. I am running on Windows XP. I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me. I'm not even worried about getting all my files back, if I could it would be great but if I can't I really just need my computer working normally again. If this is posted in the wrong location please just direct me where to go. Thanks in advance.

A:Computer constanly restarting, all files deleted, won't connect to internet unless in safe mode

Try this scan. You can copy it over from another computer if you need to.Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on launch.exe to open the program and click Start.
Click Yes to All. (This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)After the Express Scan is finished, put a check next to Complete scan to scan all local disks and removable media. In the top menu, click Settings > Change settings, and uncheck "Heuristic analysis" under the "Scanning" tab, then click Apply, Ok.Back at the main window, click the green arrow "Start Scanning" button on the right under the Dr.Web logo. Please be patient as this scan could take a long time to complete. When the scan has finished, a message will be displayed at the bottom indicating if any viruses were found.Click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable. In the top menu, click file and choose save report list.Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot. After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

A few days ago I picked up the Internet Security 2010 virus. We have Malwarebytes on the laptop so I did a scan with it and cleaned what it found. I then tried to restart in safe mode and run the scan again but the safe mode went straight to a blue screen that says PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

I then restarted the laptop in normal mode and now I have no internet connection. I also can't access any firewall modes. Now when I run malwarebytes it comes back clean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The laptop is a Dell inspiron e1705 and has windows xp. We use AVG free for virus protection. I do have internet access with my desktop.

Update: I can no longer start windows in normal mode or safe mode. Either one takes me to the Blue Screen

Hello daniel_hb Welcome to The Forums!!Around here they call me Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.Open notepad. Please copy the contents of the code box below. To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it. Paste this into the open notepad. Save it on the flash drive as fixlist.txt

There is no malicious software.I have gone through Malwarebytes,TDSSKiller,Kaspersky, etc.Nothing was found.
It doesn't entirely freeze.I can move the cursor which usually is a blue circle.Sometimes more things like highlight icons w/ the cursor or the clock keeps going.
Sometimes when I press ctrl+alt+del and open task manager, the programs that didn't open when I clicked on them will open up.Most times pressing ctrl+alt+del does nothing though.
It works fine in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking.I have disabled all start ups and every service except Microsoft ones and restarted in Normal mode.Still the same problem.
I used checkdisk and it said nothing is wrong.
There are random times where it works fine.No specific time of day.It just happens. Most times it is this way though.

A:Laptop only works in safe mode.Hangs w/ blue circle in Normal mode.

Did you disable the startup items and services in Safe Mode, and then restart in normal mode?

Essentially what you are trying to do is a Clean Boot, this has to be performed in normal mode.

***This is a diagnotic tool for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.  This will not repair your computer, but it may point to where the problem lies so that a repair can be made.***

Warning:  Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivius disabled until the process is ended.  For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Step 1

(1)  Click on the Start orb , then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.

(2)  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

Step 2

(1)  Click on the General tab.

(2)  Click the Selective startup option.

(3)  Remove the check mark in the Load startup items  check box.

Step 3

(1)  Click on the Services tab.

(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

(3)  Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list, then click on Apply, then OK.  Click on Restart in the window that opens.

Caution:  By disabling the Services your antivirus will not be active, for this reason I suggest that this process not be run while online.

If the problem does not reoccur after the reboot continue with the process of elemination to find the Service which is causing this in Option A.  If the problem does reoccur after the reboot go to Option B.

Option A

**The following is a process of elimination to find the Service or Startup item that is causing your problem**.

*  If the problem does not reoccur after the restart go back to Services and place check marks in half of the boxes and restart the computer.

*  If the problem still does not continue return to Services and remove the check marks that were added, then place check marks in the remaining half of the boxes and restart the computer.

If the problem resumes after a restart in one of these halves, you will procede with this process in the half where the problem occurs.  If this does not continue in either half you should repeat this process in Sartup.

*  In the half of the Services that the problem is found, remove one check mark at a time and restart the computer to see if that  is the Service causing the problem.  Continue to do this with the Services untill the service causing this problem is  found.

Option B

Search Startup itmesIf the problem is not found in Services, remove all of the check marks, click on the Startup tab and repeat the search process there.

Caution:  If this is a laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.

If this problem is found post the Service or Startup item that is causing it.

Not sure exactly what happened but couple days ago the laptop started to hang up or freeze when I tried to run any application, such as a browser, control panel, and even task manager. If I need to turn it off I have to hold the power button which I know is not good but otherwise I would not be able to reboot. If I go into safe mode I can use the computer somewhat sluggish but I can at least open up programs and even get on the internet. I cannot do system restore as this had been turned off. I had a conflicting driver issue that I installed, but that has not helped, I dont know what else to do. Please help this is my only computer.

Hello there,
I really need help on this one. When I switched on my laptop ( Hp windows 7) , it started as usual and it screened the message " starting windows" as usual , after starting I was expecting the log on screen to come. But there it was, just a black screen while the standard windows tune was heard, there was NO log on screen. It was just black.
Then I went into safe mode with networking. And that's all how it works now.
Please I would be really greatful if you could help me out.

So basically the laptop is functioning all fine in safe mode but wouldn't go further the " starting windows" message in normal mode.
Please Please help

Hello and welcome. I am moving this from XP to the Am I Infected forum for scans.Lets do these from normal. Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop. alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser! Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator. Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from

here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScanHold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
ESET OnlineScanClick the button. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)Click on to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.Double click on the icon on your desktop.Check Click the button.Accept any security warnings from your browser.Check Push the Start button.ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time. When the scan completes, push Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. My laptop recently couldn't connect to my wi-fi at all. Everything it does is trying to connect to the wi-fi and fails. My phone and console work perfectly fine with the wi-fi, just not my laptop. I have restarted my router and even booted my computer in safe mode but it still doesn't work. I have no acess to the internet from my computer. I tried ethernet and it doesn't work too. If anybody could help that would be great, thanks!

A:Can't connect to Wi-fi even in safe mode

Hi ... Have you any errors in the Device Manager ? ... Have you ran Network Troubleshooting and checked in the Event Viewer for any clues to the issue ? ... Might be a good idea to run a System Scan also and report back with the results ...

It seems as though something happened overnight and now I can only connect to the internet in Safe Mode.

Things I've tried:
-Using three different browsers
-Ditching the router and going direct connect

When I start in normal mode, I can connect to the internet for just a moment if I open my browser as soon as it boots up but as soon as everything loads up it wont connect at all. It shows me as being connected to my network just fine, but wont load any pages.

Please help me out and let me know what you need from me. I'm running XP and have HijackThis if you need to see a log from that. I did install a new print a couple weeks ago (HP Photosmart) in case that could mess up anything. Thanks.

Try to check if you are using a firewall, you could blocked the svchost.exe and so your connection doesn't works. Also look if your computer have strange programs starting with your SO by the msconfig

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.

Please do not post your Hijack this logs here. Due to Forum Rules we cannot assist in malware removal here. Have you tried a different browser (Chrome, Firefox etc)? When you say IE only works in Safe Mode with Networking, Do you mean you boot the computer normally and use IE (safe mode) or are you booting the computer into Safe Mode with Networking? In other words you can't boot normally?
If you feel you are infected, please click on the Virus/Trojan link in my signature and post there for more help.

I have tried to run IE7 in normal mode and I always get a "The address is not valid" window. I have a good internet connection and Firefox works flawlessly. I do not have connection problems. If I ran IE7 in Safe Mode with Networking, I can bring up webpages with no problems. I thought that upgrading to IE8 would cure the problem but I am still getting the exact same problem. I have tried checking many things and have tried many suggestions that I have found through web searches but nothing works. Please help!

Hello guys you are my last hope I do not know what I am supposed runs Help! Laptop mode mode not normal but in Safe in to do anymore I spent the last hours looking on the net what I could do Help! Laptop runs in Safe mode but not in normal mode I am a computer noob and have little experience with computers at all Here's my problem Help! Laptop runs in Safe mode but not in normal mode My laptop doesn't start anymore The first thing I noticed on my boot screen were four parallel vertical lines of dots then four parallel lines of vertical dashes then dots again and so on This is in the background from the time when I start my samsung R even on the boot screen as well as on the windows vista loading screen these little boxes floating from right to left These really weird dots are however NOT present in the DOs menu and neither is it after you pressed F to boot in safe mode They are also NOT present in safe mode that means they disappear after the boot screen and are not evident on the black background of the safe mode desktop However at the time when the windows vista sign is supposed to flash up and you'd be prompted to enter your password this is when I start it normally nothing happens and a greyish-white screen comes up after which the system just restarts and the whole process happens again including the dots mentioned earlier I can run the laptop in safe mode in fact I am running it in safe mode with network drivers right now to type this but I cannot under any circumstances run it in normal mode When I start it in safe mode I get the following notice Yes I am running a German OS so I am going to translate what's said in square brackets Produkt Product Windows Problem Unerwartetes Herunterfahren Unexpected shut-down Datum Date Status Bericht gesendet Reported Problemsignatur Problem signature Problemereignisame Name of problem BlueScreen Betriebsystemversion OS version Gebietsschema-ID Area ID Dateien die zur Beschreibung des Problems beitragen ggf nicht mehr verf gbar Files who contributed to the problem Mini - dmp sysdata xml Version txt Weitere Informationen ber das Problem Additional information BCCode BCP A F BCP BCP F BCP OS Version Service Pack Product Serverinformationen f da-c ff- f - e f-b bdcd c As I mentioned earlier I have a Samsung R which is about one and a half years old I also read that the R has infamous graphic card problems as it get's extremely hot Are graphic card problems even a plausible cause More information - I resetted the system this morning after the above outlined problems occurred - I checked the device manager for problems and there are no problems at all - I updated every single driver with the result that they are apparently quot up to date quot Please guys help me I am a year boarding student and I desperately need my laptop to get my work done It is because of this that I might not be able to respond instantly after one of you guys replied because my school has an internet filter that blocks perfectly fine pages like this one Do you guys reckon that installing a completely new windows vista will solve the problem Thank you very much in advance edit some information I forgot - I did a virus scan with ClamWin Free Antivirus since my norton antivirus was wiped out by the system recovery The anti virus software did not find any viruses - I do not have any servicepacks installed since I resetted the system - I do not really know how many windows updates are installed but I guess it's like a fresh vista since I used the backup completed on the date of registration - I do not have the original vista CD with me since I am German and on an exchange to Australia My dad has the CD and he's about km away right now

Hi -

The BSOD bugcheck (STOP error) = 0x50 = invalid memory referenced

As you said - no service packs installed, which is probably one of the problems here. You need to see if you can re-install Windows and then see if it is stable or not.

I do recommend another re-install of Vista using the manufacturer's (OEM) recovery DVD. This must be the first item on the "to do" list. Contact your father or the system manufacturer and obtain the Vista recovery DVDs. Do you have a recovery partition? Many do. Usually, the key to invoke the recovery partition if F10 - during boot-up.

Two other options until your Vista DVDs arrive from your father -
1. Download and burn Server 2008 - it has the same build as Vista, with a few features that have been disabled. It is a trial offer that can be renewed up to 240 days - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...-software.aspx

2. Download and Burn Windows 7 RC - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx

Use a product like ImgBurn to burn DVD ISO - http://www.imgburn.com/

Good Luck to you.

I just did a clean re-install of Vista x on a new hard drive old normal mode install: Vista fast safe in Slow mode; x64 internet connection new in drive crashed Here's the problem Using my ISP Roadrunner Carolinas speed test site I get around to kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode If I boot to Safe Mode Vista x64 new install: Slow internet connection in normal mode; fast in safe mode I get around to kbps which is what it should be this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista Running the same speed test with Firefox Vista x64 new install: Slow internet connection in normal mode; fast in safe mode I get around to kbps in normal mode but if I try to download a file it transfers at only the to kbsp rate if I'm lucky Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far Installed all updates including SP Using Windows Firewall no anti-virus Updated network drivers directly from NVidia Chipset is nForce i Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem no router I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out This really the second clean install I've done in hrs After the first one I upgraded and added a lot of software and add-ons before I figured out the connection problem so I decided the easiest fix would be to re-format and start over checking each step to see what caused the slow-down Unfortunately once I did the second clean install I tested right away and I had the connection problem from the get-go Since then any action I took loading upgrades drivers software etc I have run the connection test after every step My skills with computers are a bit better than average but this is way beyond me Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction

Hi all. Just bought my 11yr old daughter a little notebook, and its just stopped connecting in normal mode to our bthomehub router. It worked fine xmas day, then stopped the next!. Ive tried all i know, which isnt much, but no luck. I get the `windows cannot display..` etc page, and the ` diagnose connection thing`, but that cant resolve the issue. Tried switching off firewall, nope!, switching off anti virus...still nothing. BUT....it WILL connect in `safe mode`??.

I also notice that the `norton` system it came with wont turn on...yet windows `defender` will. Ive done a check, and found a `defender` type virus....but i dunno if what i have installed is the real thing, or the virus.

As i said...it worked fine...now im about to join the loony party thru this!

heyyyelp pls!!!!

Hello,

I can only connect to the net in safe mode. I am wireless.
What I have tried:
Scans: Scanned for virus using Microsoft Securty Essential, Malwarebytes and Spybot. There were viruses but they are cleaned now.
Router: I show I am connected to the router. I have unplugged and reset the router.
NIC: I have reset the NIC, shows NIC is working properly

Suddenly I can connect only in Safe Mode. On my 2Wire modem, I can connect one computer that is wired, and my laptop wifi, but my main office computer, wired to the modem, suddenly will not connect except in Safe Mode. It started after a simple reboot. No new hardware of software was added - save a new access to my bank was added to my favorites. I usually use Firefox, but the same problem occurs with Internet Explorer. Can anyone help? I have tried the Internet explorer diagnostics program without success.

A:[SOLVED] Can connect only in Safe Mode?

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

A:No internet in normal mode but works in safe mode with networking

The first thing i would do is stay in safe mode and run a virus scan.

-edit-
Also check for a system restore point.

Use your Install DVD. When on the install now screen choose repair in the left side of screen. Select your OS. Then When at the GUI select system restore. Choose a date before all this happened.

I am new to this forum. I have dell inspiron N5110 laptop that started acting up about a month ago. Internet works sometimes in normal mode. Works in safe mode every time. Have tried everything suggested on web to get working. Restored to factory defaults, tried removed and reinstalled drivers. Any help would be appreciated. Running in safe mode now.

A:[SOLVED] internet works in safe mode but not normal mode

I'd guess you have some kind of malware on your computer, have you run a virus scan? I'd followup with something like malwarebytes.

Hi all my laptop has been acting crazy the past couple of days First of all I was watching a movie on it and it just shut down when I tried restarting it in normal mode i would get to the welcome symbol after what seemed an eternity of loading but then the screen just went black when I opened in safe mode with networking everything was fine So then I went to msconfig working normal mode safe like mode acting and internet now not and unchecked the two items i was allowed to rebooted the system and I could get into normal mode again So the problem now is that normal mode acting like safe mode and now internet not working normal mode is acting like safe mode meaning that the bottom toolbar looks the same as in safe mode as well as any of the other open windows also after i tried restarting it again i get this dialogue when I try to connect to my wifi quot the dependency service or group failed to start quot thanks for any help

A:normal mode acting like safe mode and now internet not working

Hi this is my first post on SevenForums My internet speed is really slow I'm lucky if I can reach Mbps when I start up Normally However when I start up in Safe Mode with Networking I can reach Mbps The computer is fairly old years old maybe and I've only just upgraded from XP to Windows Ultimate bit When I was normal slow mode fast internet in Very mode Safe in but running XP I connected to my router using a Linksys USB wireless network adapter After upgrading Very slow internet in normal mode but fast in Safe mode to Windows I couldn't use the Linksys anymore as I couldn't find any drivers so I installed a Belkin Desktop PCI Card F D I managed to connect to the internet straight away and this is when I first noticed the slow speed I've updated the drivers directly from the Belkin site but it hasn't improved the speed I've tried connecting to the same router using WiFi on a laptop and the internet speed is fine Mbps I contacted my ISP Talk Talk and asked them to test the connection but they didn't find any faults with either the line or hardware I've also tried switching off my Anti-Virus program but this doesn't make a difference either Could anything else be slowing the internet down Any ideas would greatly appreciated Dave

A:Very slow internet in normal mode but fast in Safe mode

Hi Dave, and welcome to SevenForums!

I'm not an expert in this area but I suggest you try a Clean Boot as next step. You disable all non-MS services and reboot. If that works you can enable one service at a time to find out if it's a specific service that is causing the slow Internet.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
Clean Boot assumes the problem is not with Windows itself but a 3rd party product or conflict, while Safe Mode loads minimum necessary drivers etc and without any start up programs.

It could also be caused by malware, that in Safe Mode isn't allowed to start during normal autostart procedures. So scan with a couple of good antivirus/antimalware products, for example Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software

In Network and Sharing Center, there is a wizard to troubleshoot connection problems. If that doesn't work, you could "set up a new connection".

Then press submit.Lets take a look with Malwarebytes (just another time with an updated version, i am aware that you have run it before)Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here:MalwarebytesPlease rename the file BEFORE downloading to zztoy.exe instead of mbam-setup.exeMBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Double Click zztoy.exe to install the application.* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.* Copy&Paste the entire MBAM report (even if it does not find anything) in your next reply Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. If Malwarebytes won't install or runSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run.

I'm using windows 7 64-bit operating system with internet explorer 11, and Firefox. I can use my browsers while in safe mode to upload / download information. However, after starting windows normally the browsers no longer work, that is, when I start IE I get the "This page cannot be displayed" message even though the url is microsoft.com and Firefox give me the Mozilla Crash Reporter form. I've checked the internet connection in network and sharing and see the connection is made; also when I run MS Security Essentials it gets the current updates. So it seems that it is just a browser issue. Thought someone might have an idea of how I can get my browsers working again.

Hi all,

I've had this problem since yesterday (5/25/15) and haven't managed to find a fix for it yet. The issue is that although I have internet access--and Google even boots up how it normally would--I am unable to access websites. I am able to search perfectly fine, but the connections "time out" and do not connect. When I decided to troubleshoot, I received "-website name- is online, but network is unable to connect". I am still able to access the internet on my phone and other devices.

Thank you for any and all help!

UPDATE: I now am unable to view the Google homepage on startup with Google Chrome.

My computer wouldn't boot past advanced options menu for a quite a while. So I was messing around in safe mode running anti virus software an it booted normally finally . But after that I went into add/remove programs and got rid of some stuff and I'm not sure if the internet was working before I did that because I did it right when the computer booted up again. However it does work in safe mode

do a tcp/ip reset

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc
------------------------------------------------------------------------

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10

For Windows Vista through to Windows 10
Start> Programs> Accessories> and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on the screen )
For Windows 8 & 10
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop. Use Windows + X Keys together and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.
Or Right click on the windows icon - bottom left hand side - A menuu appears - choose Command Prompt (Admin)
In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold and red for the following commands.
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog and press enter

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log and press enter

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log and press enter
ReStart (reboot) the machine.

If you receive the message
The requested operation requires elevation.
Then please open the command prompt as administrator - as requested above
Start> Programs> Accessories> and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen )Please note and post back - if you receive the following message :-
Resetting , failed. - This error will occur with windows 10 , so ignore.
Access is denied. - This error will occur with windows 8 and windows 10 , so ignore.
But running TCP/IP reset still can resolve issues , even with the above errors.

please post back the results in a reply here - its important we know that these commands have worked correctly and not produced any errors
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Details also here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
also the link has a Microsoft Fix it , which will do the above for you
