Intel Core i5/i7 processors in my Compaq laptop?

Q: Intel Core i5/i7 processors in my Compaq laptop?

Hey all, I would like to make my laptop a bit more powerful by adding a new processor (I've already upgraded my RAM). It's a Compaq Presario CQ62. Would anyone know whether an i5 or i7 would fit it?
Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You cannot change a CPU in a laptop. You have to buy a completely new laptop.

I'm planning on buying a Dell inspiron laptop. I am wondering what the difference is between Intel Core Solo and Intel Core Duo processors. Is it worth more money for the Duo when all I'll use the laptop for is Office applications and internet browsing?

A:difference is between Intel Core Solo and Intel Core Duo processors.

If you're using it mostly for applications and multitasking, then yes, the core duo would be a better choice. I would say shell out the extra money.

I was aghast for reinstallations of Windows 8 because of reasons unknown which ran operating system into trouble.
Now I know why this happened, because I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig', which really doesn't exists ('Msconfig' showed 4 processors for Intel Core i3210).
From next start Windows 8 ran into trouble and within a day or two of using this desktop stopped responding, happened for all operating systems where I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig'.
Therefore do not select maximum number of processors from 'Msconfig'.

Hello,

As I am going to buy a new PC I wish to know which video card brand should to go with keeping in view the future developments such as Intel's release of their Core i7 (Nehalem) processors by the end of this year. And as you know there is dispute between intel and Nvidia at present and it may be possible that Nvidia may not be able to support intel's next processors i.e. Core i7, do you think that Nvidia which is today the defacto standard in PC gaming and widely recognized would lose this position to the ATI video cards in near future? So should I go forward with Nvidia or ATI? Kindly recommend. Thanks

A:Nvidia or ATI after Intel Core i7 processors?

It kinda depends on what chipset you go with rather than the processor type. For example, if you buy a PC or motherboard with an Intel chipset, rather than an nVidia chipset, you should buy ATI because of greater compatibility. Also, Intel's chipsets support ATI Crossfire technology while nVidia chipsets support SLI. I would imagine that the new i7 processors would perform better on a native Intel chipset over nVidia but that's my two cents. It doesn't look like either graphics corp. is going to succeed over the other any time soon so it's anyone's guess as to who comes out on top, if that even happens...

Thats all you need to know, the CPU is irrelevant for selecting memory. The CPU never has dictated the type of memory used. The motherboard either supports the memory or it doesn't.

Intel Core 2 Duo processor T8300 (2.4GHz 800MHz 3MBL2)
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.2GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7700 (2.4GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)

I would think the least powerful is the 7500 and the most is the 8300, yet Lenovo offers the 8300 as a $10. upgrade and the 7700 as a $75. upgrade. Why is that?

Is there any real difference between these three?

Why the strangeqe question?

you see I have a Dell XPS 15z laptop with a core i7 processor, 8 Giga RAM running Windows 7 Premium and I also have an HP desktop with a core two duo processor, 3 Gigs of ram running Windows 7 Professional but surprizingly the desktop runs faster than the laptop when I give them both tthe same task on Photoshop CS6 ( a processor heavy application). I feel that I have been cheated into buying the Dell laptop which at the time of purchase was expensive in the is country.

Does it use 100% cpu for a long time? (so cpu is the bottleneck)

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Ideally it would be best if we use the machine number to verify the details of the machine listed on the sticker or check it here . (just keep your serial number confidential).

Upgrade checker can help provide information for recommended upgrades but OEM system have its own whitelist as controlled by the BIOS. Therefore , it would always suggest to check it first with the manufacturer .

Update us soon as convenient.

Hmm, I guess you should read some reviews. But just from the specs the AMD has 6 GB ram instead of 4. Has a DVD burner where the Intel shows no optical drive. It only has W8 8.0 where the Intel has 8.1. But some people may prefer 8.0.

Read reviews. See how each performs. If you don't wish to use it to burn DVD then the optical drive, or lack thereof may not matter to you.

Edit: Oh, and the AMD is about $80 cheaper.

Hello everyone, I'm looking at the new laptops from Dell and I was given an option to choose between the T7100 processor (2MB cache, 1.8GHz) and the T7300 processor (4MB cache, 2.0GHz).

Is it worth 100+ Canadian dollars to upgrade from the T7100 to the the T7300? I'm mostly going to use the computer for school work along with some music and videos and maybe, yes, maybe, some gaming.

(I posted the following question in another subforum but I'll just ask again here) I noticed that the Inspiron and the XPS M1330 have similar, if not exactly the same, specs. I ordered the M1330 today but after some thoughts, is it really worth an extra $500 CDN to get the XPS? Should I cancel my order and get the inspiron instead, which also comes with MS office 2007?

This came up in this thread:

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/550822-video-editing-processor.html

I was wondering as a practical matter at this point in time whether quad-cores are really going to provide any noticeable difference to the average computer user--even those doing video editing and running games? I know this came up when the dual cores first came out and the software had to "catch up"--that is most users wouldn't have benefited from a dual core at the time they first came out. So is that true now? Are there any softwares taking advantage of the quad cores yet?

Opinions on this?

A:ARe the Quad Core Processors actually useful for most of us?

Well honestly, I think tons of people will buy them, but they won't be super-effective. The games haven't even kept up with quad-cores; only dual-cores with crazy good graphics cards.

I was told that people that uses the duo core processors really won't notice any big difference until the script have been written for the different software programs. Although you can witness the power of what they can do when running more than one program at the same time on your computer. Is anyone aware of when the scripted programs will start coming out?

A:Script for Duo Core Processors

I have never heard of the Core Duo processors requiring "scripts" to use both processor cores. All the documentation I have seen only mentions the OS needing to be a multi-tasking, multi-threaded operating system; which WinXP is.

So, it is up to the application running, that "tells" the OS that some tasks can be shared, or off-loaded, or whatever, to the second (or more) core. It is the OS that polices the data being diverted among the cores. By the way, Core Quad processors, where there are four processor cores on the one chip. More core count is on the way, too.

If you are talking about scripts, like what I think of as scripts (and that is an interpreted language), then there is nothing in there that says, or can dictate, which core does what.

Perhaps the person who mentioned this story to you, really meant programs must be written to allow for multi-tasking. And I don't think that is true anymore either, since the program running on WinXP has no idea of what other programs or processes (and there can be plenty) running at the same time. As far as any one program is concerned "it" (that one program) has the full attention of the OS.

Hi all,

I'm about to buy a laptop for heavy duty programs such as Cubase and Reason (music production software).

I'm a bit concerned because processor technology seems to have advanced so much since I bought my last desktop about 2 years ago and I don't really understand the specs on these new Duo Core prcessors.

Does anyone know what GHz speed and RAM amount is decent for a laptop these days (I mean as opposed to what some guy in PC World is gonna say "Yeah that's powerful")

The one that I'm thinking about is:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 - 1.83GHz (x2), 667MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache
RAM: 2048MB DDR2-667MHz

Thanks ^^

Anyone else feeling like technology today is going down the drain Firstly Vista was a lot less than I expected I expected a lot of Multi-core processors useful stuff and a complete revolution of the way I Multi-core processors looked at computers from all the hype but with Vista Multi-core processors everything was practically like XP with more confirmation dialogs and Aero And a bunch of stuff that I never use Then we have Office It s basically the same as the previous versions but with major facelifts on the main programs Took me a while to get used to but I see no improvement Finally we have multi-core processors I mean back in the day when the best processor was decided by its clock speed there was a lot of innovation and competition Nowadays I just see Intel and AMD jamming more and more cores onto a motherboard which is just lame to me I mean obviously the more cores you put the better it will perform but there s no innovation there Why not develop faster cores instead of boasting a quad core which beats the triple core which in turn beats the dual core Anyways just my thoughts nbsp

A:Multi-core processors

Because numbers mean nothing, and Intel and AMD have figured this out.

When MhZ ruled there was no innovation. Intel would cram more and more transistors on the die, shrink the package and sell it.

Then AMD started winning with lower clock speeds and a better architecture. When the AMD 64 came out Intel was really hurting. The the X2 hit which put the dual processor system into a single affordable package. (Which really hit Intel hard)

Then Intel introduced the Core Duo in the Macs which gave Intel the lead again, and Core 2 Duo gave an even better lead in some applications.

An OS and the Apps must be multithreaded to actually perform any better than a single core CPU, but when they are multi threaded the gain is a good amount.

Kind of like the move to 64bit, there is a definite need and reason to do it, as long as the software supports it... Thats why I run 64bit Vista, I can't benefit with all programs now, but I want to do my part to speed up the transition!

When it comes to quad-core processors for the desktop and server arenas Intel has pretty much had the market to itself since November if you don t count AMD s Quad FX platform Intel s quad-core processors were officially announced on November in the form of the desktop-oriented Core Extreme QX and the server-oriented Clovertown Xeon quad-core processors series Click to expand I don t know much how Dual Core CPU s work but there is talk in the future you may have or CPU s in one I think when it is executing a program part of the CPU is executing this and quad-core processors the quad-core processors other part is executing quad-core processors that and than puts it together at the end Okay I believe Windows XP when you are multitasking and one program will run on one core and the other program on the other core Well the multithreaded games and software should take all the work load and thread it in so one core is working on one work well the other is working on the other Well keep in mind a dual core running at GHz will be x fast than a one core running at GHz because it is like CPU s in one The problem is they can t make core run faster than or GHz nbsp

A:quad-core processors

Okay here is some more information on quad core

Clovertown, a four-core processor, will start shipping to computer manufacturers late this year and hit the market in early 2007. Clovertown will be made for dual-processor servers, which means that these servers will essentially be eight-processor servers (two processors x four cores each).

The company will also come out with a previously announced version called Tigerton around the same time for servers with four or more processors.

Core expansion will be a dominant theme for Intel over the next few years, said Chief Technology Officer Justin Rattner. By the end of the decade, chips with tens of cores will be possible, while in 10 years, it's theoretically possible that chips with hundreds of cores will come out, he added.

Rattner showed off a computer running two Clovertown processors.

Multiplying the number of cores brings distinct advantages. First, it cuts down overall energy consumption for equivalent levels of performance. If the recent Core Duo chips released for notebooks from Intel had only one core, the chips would consume far more power, he said.

Integrating processor cores into the same piece of silicon or same processor package also increases performance by reducing the data pathways

"To go from core to core can be a matter of nanoseconds," Rattner said. "As soon as you move cores together you get an automatic improvement in available bandwidth."Click to expand...

Well if this is true a quad core running at 2.0 GHz would be 4 x faster than one core running at 2.0 Ghz.It is like 4 CPU's in one!!

Hi,
My PC Motherboard Model is P5PE-VM with the following specifications:

CPU: LGA775 socket for Intel Pentium D / Pentium 4 / Celeron Processor
Supports Intel Dual Core 65nm Intel processors
Supports Intel Hyper Threading Technology
Supports Intel Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology (EIST)

Chipset: Northbridge: Intel 865G Southbridge: Intel ICH5

Front Side Bus: 1066 / 800 / 533 MHZ

My question is: Can I change my actual processor (LGA 2.6 GHZ) to Core 2 Duo or Cre i3 processors??
Does this Motherbord can support (accept) these thecnology?

Please advise.
Thanks in Advance

A:Can I upgrade to Core 2 Duo or Cre i3 processors?

The I3 uses a LGA 1156 socket,so in order to use
it you would need to upgrade to a new motherboard.
There are certain models of the duo that fit 775,but
you would need to check the compatability at the
motherboard manufacturers website.

I am looking to build my own PC as I can't afford £1,000+ to get someone to make one for me, I will be using it for gaming and communication and a little college work, I will probably be using Bullguard to protect it and OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office with a Win 7 64bit OS.

Bearing this in mind what would be the best Processor for the Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor and what would be the maximum Memory and Storage I could attach to it? ( I preferably want 8GB of Memory and 1tb of storage ) but I can be flexible.

A:What would be the best motherboard for a Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor?

The CPU you want is the i5 3570K. That runs on the socket LGA 1155. When you are on a budget, any mid range mobo will suit your needs. Use the savings from the mobo towards a better HDD or even an SSD. You will also need a GPU.

I would recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. As for RAM, 8GB is enough. As for the HDD, 1TB is great. I recommend the WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD.

Make sure you can get in a GPU.

A:Intel e6300 core 2 duo conroe VS AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4200+ AM2 D/CORE

Out of those 3, the E6300 is the best. Conroe's new architecture is so efficient, that easily outperforms Netburst based CPU´s (P4, PD, Celeron D), and even manages to outperform AMD CPU's.

You can see by yourself HERE. All Conroe CPU's perform excellent. And you can overclock them very easily, and that way, your 1.8GHZ Conroe overclocked to 2000-2400 MHZ will completely trash the other CPU's.

How does thermal design power apply to multi-core processors?

Intel's QX6800 has a TDP of 130W, according to Intel's website. That processor is quad-core; so does that mean that the combined TDP of all the cores is 130W, or does each core have a TDP of 130W?

AMD's Athlon 64 FX-74 has a TDP of 125W, according to the AMD website. So do both cores combined have a TDP of 125W, or each core?

Also, is the TDP the same as the wattage used by the processor?

Thanks in advance.

A:Question about TDP on multi-core processors

TDP tells you how much heat the cooling system has to remove from the CPU, so yes, it means all the cores combined.

Yes, present-day electronics convert virtually all the electrical power to heat, so TDP would be roughly the same as the power consumption of the CPU.

Well, to answer you're first question, yes, that motherboard supports that type of RAM.

I cannot, however, understand why you would purchase DDR2 ram. You will not be able to find a whole lot of DDR2 compatible motherboards for sale, and even less core 2 processors. I highly recommend you return that RAM, and get current DDR3 RAM along with a current generation Motherboard and CPU.

what processors upgrades to replace the core i5-430M in the hp pavillion dv6-2170us notebook?

A:processors upgrades to replace the core i5-430M

This is the Service Manual and you have to be careful because the one posted under this Model Number is not the right Manual: Manual There is a different motherboard for the i7 Quad core processors so the best you can do is install the fastest listed dual core which is the  Intel Core i5-580M processor with 2.66 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.33 GHz, Dual 35 W 625825-001 So you would be going from 2.26 ghz to 2.66 ghz which is not a small upgrade. I think there is a chance that a mobile i7 first generation dual core like the i7-620M might work, but cannot gurantee it. And those do not bench much better than the i5-580M anyway.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hello everyone, could someone point me in the right direction here. I remember when running vista a rumour that when vista was installed on systems it didnt recognise dual or multiple processors on the boot.ini tab in the msconfig boot advanced options. I have checked this with windows seven and again the same has happened. i enter the msconfig. select boot.ini tab. click on advanced options and see that only 1 processor is recognised. My system has a dual core processor so have changed this value to 2 and applied settings. I have noticed an even quicker startup time and when i run multiple programs ie Photoshop and itunes there is no system slow down. Has anybody else expierienced this, does anybody know if this would affect quad core processors. any feedback would be appriciated. Thanks

A:Dual core/multiple processors not recognised by system

woah slow down there Too fast! and welcome to sevenforums,

the advanced boot.ini tab is only used if you need to turn cores off for whatever reason. by default, all your processors/cores will be used. you say that only one was recognised before you changed it to two - was the box also ticked at that time?

you can always see how many cores windows is using, by starting up taskmanger (ctrl-alt-del or ctrl-shift-esc) then check the performance tab.

i've got a dual-core processor, and both were enabled and used by default - are you sure about these performance gains?

Hello I m very new here I recently upgraded from a Pentium-IV to an Intel Quad GHz Win Assigning Xp Tasks Processors Core-2 Quad Multiple To on an NVIDIA Assigning Multiple Processors To Tasks Win Xp Core-2 Quad motherboard for better performance when realtime streaming A V in down and out and also hoping for faster computation subject to disc I O bottlenecks I am running Win XP SP I can assign Assigning Multiple Processors To Tasks Win Xp Core-2 Quad my I and O applications to different pairs of processors and I give them realtime priority and streaming performance is now very good since each app does not seem to need more than of one processor However I would like my postprocessing applications to run faster typically these are A V editing reformatting computational molecular dynamics etc but I have several app s available and none of them will use more than one CPU which they use at approx this leaves my two disc drives one for read other for write fairly idle writing the results I know virtually nothing about parallel processing software programming I have read about a system resource called HAL DLL in system windows system and Assigning Multiple Processors To Tasks Win Xp Core-2 Quad that replacing this under a quot Preinstallation Environment quot boot with HALMACPI DLL will tell Win XP SP - and my hardware - to allow quot reasonable forward-looking quot applications access to multiple processors and therefore one hopes get their jobs done faster I would like some advice or at least expert encouragement before I do this to my system I do not want to trash my motherboard or processor for example I note that NVIDIA - who make the MB specifically for Core- -Quad CPUs - do not include this DLL exchange in their installation package Any comments or useful links will be much appreciated --G

OK, some more information:

The current installation on the Lenovo T400 (Intel 330 SSD ACHI) was done using the "double install" method using Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack Upgrade. It appears the current installation would allow me to use the Sysprep method (I didn't receive an error message when running sysprep.exe), but my concern is that when I boot up the Intel 330 SSD in my new Intel NUC, the validation won't work because the Family Pack uses an Upgrade key. The key has only been used once, so I still have 2 remaining activations, but I'm not sure if that has any relevance to the situation.

Any other recommendations? I am considering manually uninstalling the drivers, doing the swap, and hoping for the best, due to the fact that the current installation sees itself as a clean install, not an upgrade.

A:Move Intel SSD from T400 (Core 2 Duo) to Intel NUC (Broadwell i3)?

How do you know that activation won't work? Did you try? If the bit is already flipped from doing the double upgrade then it should reactivate with the same key since all that is needed for the transfer is to reset the hardware signature in MS Activation servers.

You also have three simultaneous activations at any one time with the Family Pack, and do not forfeit an activation for reinstalling a key to the same or other hardware. If using phone activation because web fails, then when the magic question is asked "How many installs has this copy of Win7 been made" you'd say three instead of one. If rejected again, ask for agent. If agent has problems, talk with MS Customer service who are often more attentive seeing that you get what you pay for.

What's easier than Sysprep is to reimage using a free lightweight app like Macrium Imaging - Windows 7 Help Forums then if Win7 won't boot on the new hardware as expected Adjust Win7 to boot on new hardware with Paragon Adaptive Restore CD.

Let us know how this goes.

Hi, everybody! I was looking to buy a new comp. but i am unsure which processor is better, the intel centrino core duo or the intel pentium M. I was wondering if someone could tell me what the difference was and possibly which one is better. thanks!

A:Solved: Intel Centrino Core Duo vs. Intel Pentium M

G'day myongha!

I would go with the Core Duo because it is more reliable and is quicker because there are two parts to the processor, hence the name Core Duo.

I have this: ARK | Intel? Celeron? Processor 440 (512K Cache, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

I want to replace it with this: ARK | Intel? Core
I've tried simply physically replacing one with the other, but as you may guess, it's not that simple. What do I need to do? I'm on a budget of zero.

Could I get by with installation instructions, and perhaps directions towards drivers? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

A:Replace Intel Celeron 440 @ 2.0 GHz With Intel Core 2 Quad @ 3.0 GHz

I would suggest checking if your motherboard can support a more modern CPU. The Core 2 Quad is from 2008. You can probably get an i3 for close to the same price if your motherboard supports it.

Ok guys someone please help me understand this better. Are intel core duo the best or fastest processor out now? Also if a laptop is Intel Core Duo 2.0 GHz and a pc Intel Pentium 4 3.66 GHz which processor is faster?

Im not understanding what the X.XXGHz mean...is that based on the processor?

I understand that Intel Core Duo has 2 processors and thats why they are so great....does that mean that it is 2.0GHz per processor? so its really 4.0GHz?

sorry if I'm way off here but I want to understand this better.

Thanks.

PS. Im not sure where this would go so please feel free to move if necessary.

Hay there, I recently obtained a new system for a very cheap price with a surprisingly good processer with it.

New computer: -

Stone
Intel DQ45EK mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.9GHz Socket 775
3GB ram (max 4gb)

Current Computer: -

Gigabyte P31-D3SL mobo
Intel Pentium D 925 3.00 GHz Socket 775
4GB ram

Alright so the issue is I want to swap the processors around but when I put the Pentium D into the Intel DQ45EK mobo it comes up with a blank screen with the fan blowing intensely, reboots and then just hangs with the intense fan speed. When I swap back the processors the orignal Core 2 Duo does this same thing but then it goes back to normal after a few reboots. The E7500 works fine in my old system though... I would think the pentium D would be widely supported x-x

Any ideas cause im lost at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a 64-bit server that supports hardware virtualization?

Can't seem to find anything with the AMD-V or Intel-VT processors on Ebay. I found ONE Intel server on Ebay but would like to look at a few more options. What I want to do is set up a small intranet like environment for testing/development purposes using Ubuntu Server and the XEN hypervisor and set up like 5 or 6 VM's. Maybe mess around a little with Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud.

In additional to which server I should buy, does anyone have any other suggestions so far as hardware requirements?

A:AMD-V and Intel-VT processors

Most of the Intel Xeon processors would be suitable for this:
http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=594

Most (if not all) Opterons from AMD would support virtualization as well.

If you don't need a server CPU, there are plenty of desktop CPU's that support this technology as well.

Hi everybody :

I was looking at an Intel i5-4570 Processor on newegg.com. And, apparently, this model is sold without a heatsink / fan. ( newegg DID post an informational screen stating that a newer version of this model is available----the i5-4590 WITH a heatsink / fan. Question : In a scenario like this, without a heatsink / fan, what size would the heatsink / fan be ? Just for the sake of information (for later). And, I realize that WITH a heatsink /fan included, it makes installation that much easier.

thanks in advance,

hi guys

im thinking of buying a new system but im not sure which processor and graphic card to buy

CPU :

- intel core i7 - 920 (2.66 GHz) which is new in the markets
or
- intel core 2 duo extreme -QX9775 (3.20 GHz)

VGA :

im thinking about nVidia XFX GTX 280 (1GB, SLI , DDR3)

any ideas ?

A:Intel processors &VGA?

dude, big price difference between the i7 and the qx. narrow down your budget.

ideally though, get the i7 920 with an x58 board plus a couple of sticks of ddr3 and the 4870/1gb with a true power of at least 550w(80+) plus two bananas and you're almost there.

besides, aren't you curious how 4 physical+4 logical procesor would feel like. 920 then.

As you can see there is two models

the 1310ea and the 1315ea
the only real difference in them is the processor and hard drive
im wondering if the cheaper 2.0Ghz P7350 is much slower than the 2.4Ghz P8600
Would it be noticeable? I dont think its worth nearly £300/ €400 for it

What do you guys think - would there be a noticable difference?
Laptop would mainly be used for playing movies, songs, mild gaming and multitasking

Thanks

I have a HP Pavilion a6767c. It is a 64 bit machine. It has TWO Core Duo ES300's at 2.6 Ghz. (TWO physical core duo processors with TWO cores each equals 4 processors total available). I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional.

My question: Other forums say that Windows 7 Professional will support multiple cores. When I ctl-alt-del the performance monitor shows only two graphs.

Does this mean that Windows 7 Professional is only using the two cores of one of the two physical core duo processors and ignoring the other two cores on the second physical core duo processor?

How do I get Windows 7 to recognize all 4 cores and show me 4 graphs in the performance monitor?

I bought the box for Autocad and I want maximum performance.

Thanks for any light anyone can shine on this question.

Thought this post looked familiar. (vistax64). Duo core and dual cores are different. See here. Intel? Core? Duo Processor — Frequently asked questions for Intel? Core? Duo Processors

duo core mounted (IMO) on one chip, dual cores mounted on separate chips on different sockets.

IN either case you have task manager showing one graph per cpu (1 x 2=2) and that is correct, Your computer is using both cores per cpu under load.

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

Definatley not a fad, however there is the xtreme too.
Extreme uses HT and dual core, both have 1mb cache for each core.
The extreme goes much higher fsb 1066, the D is 800.
What I don't like reading about them is it appears you need to run
the Intel® 955X Express chipset
Intel® 945P Express chipset
Intel® 945G Express chipset
Intel® E7230 Chipset
to get them to run right.

I have been offered a laptop through work with the following specs

Intel pentium M 730. 1.6gig 533mhz fsb (2mb L2)
512DDR Ram
60gig h/drive

and i was wondering how the clock speed compares to a normal intel processor ie 2.4gig.

I have tried looking on intels website and had no joy wotsoever, and seeing as i am a noobie, am easily cofused

well a 1.6Ghz P4 M runs at 1.6Ghz. My 2.6 runs at 2.6

difference is in chip archetecture.

Hello;

Just getting ready to buy a new computer. I am curious about AMD processors and Intell processors, I see that they are very competative, but wonder if I get a computer that has an AMD chip, can I still use all the same programs that I could use with an Intel chip? would it make a difference?
Just wondering also if programing is not an issue regarless of the chip that I have in my computer, are they very comparible with each other? should I with out a doubt get a computer with an INTEL chip or AMD.
I am just confused as to the benifits and drawbacks of either little brain that would be running my computer.

Thank you

Celerons are not very good, the Celeron D is a dual core bad CPU.

The next one is your best bet, highest clock speed and FSB, hyperthreading is a way to run multiple threads on one CPU/ die.
