Preferred Solution: ADMIN PASSWORD on Dell XPS M1210

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Vista, Intel Centino duo

I press the power button and it does nothing except turn the blue power button and green lights on. It does not start up at all. Its the same with the Media Direct button.

First, it had blue lines down the screen a couple weeks ago. That seemed to be solved by the F12 hardware assessment. When we got it to boot up again, we ran a full virus scan and found nothing. We did a really in-depth hardware scan and found no problems. Later it would freeze and then go to Blue then red then green then white screens at start up. Today it kept freezing on the welcome screen and once on a white screen. It started once in safe mode but that's all. Now it won't do anything.

I'd greatly appreciate any help/advice. Thank you! Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post to.

A:Dell XPS M1210 can't sleep more than once

Personally I don't recommend using sleep functions in Windows. While it may work wonders in Unix based systems, it's not quite as refined in DOS based systems. It frequently hangs, disrupts processes and causes BSODs. Just shut down your computer when not in use, if you have a decent system it should take no more than ~60 seconds to boot.

I re-installed Windows on my Dell xps m1210. I used the provided drivers and utilities CD to install the drivers and applications. However, the in-built webcam doesn't work.

It doesn't show up in the device manager as an installed working device or an unidentified hardware that drivers need to be installed for. It doesn't show up in the control panel or anything.

I tried to launch a video call using skype but it said, no webcam detected. The webcam was working fine until I did the re-install. Also, I've used the OEM windows cd that came with the laptop.

Can anyone please help.

Then install this driver for the camera software

When i start the computer it powers up for about 5 seconds. There is no screen activity at all. Or any noise.

The only LED which lights up is the green power light at the top right of the laptop.

When i do the error function test. It gives me 3 solid green indicators LED lights. Which i cannot decipher. 3 blinking lights mean a new mobo, but it has just been replaced.

Any insight into my plight would be greatly appreciated.

My built-in camera as well as the mic doesnt work in my Dell XPS M1210. I tried to find information elsewhere on the net but was unable to fix the problem.

The camera used to work when I had bought but now vista doesnt seems to recognize it. And I never tested the internal microphone.

Thanks for the success story!

Your story is especially heartening since it's still not fully sunk in that Win7 is driver-complete in the installer and via optional Updates with few exceptions. Many still following XPired methods think they have to change out all their drivers like chipset and run into problems. Win7 is the authority on its own drivers.

My daughter has a Dell XPS M1210 laptop running Windows XP Media Center Edition. She got fooled by PSGuard and thought she was downloading antispyware software after a warning came on her screen. She ended up with the TrojanDownloder.xs and the SmitFraud problem. With a lot of assistance from techs on this site (thank you, thank you....). I was able to fix all the problems. At least that is what I thought.

Recently she tried to burn a audio CD. The CD drive reads CD's and DVD's but won't allow her to record. The drive had worked in the past. Is there a chance there is still a registry problem here that is preventing the drive from recording? She has reloaded the software from Dell. She uses Itunes, Windows Media Center, Nero, which in the past has allowed her to record. All worked in the past.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all I have a Dell XPS M It was running Windows M1210 takes minutes 10-11 to Dell log off. XPS XP Professional It was running quite slowly so I reformatted and installed Windows XP Media Center Edition Even when I was just first installing drivers that I loaded onto my flash drive from a safe virus-free and malware-free desktop with internet access onto this M it was taking - minutes to just log off I have the Dell XPS M1210 takes 10-11 minutes to log off. quot welcome screen quot turned off so it says quot Logging off quot for about - minutes when I didn t have the quot welcome screen quot turned off it was just a blank screen my wallpaper but no taskbar or icons Then as soon as that s finished it takes seconds to actually shut down It s not hanging during that ten or so minutes as when I press the caps lock button the light turns on When I run it in Selective Startup Mode even with all of the start up options checked off it logs off quickly and shuts down quickly When put back into Normal Startup Mode it goes right back to taking forever to just log off Something curious - in my System Information the OS is listed as Windows XP Professional However the log off window says it s Windows XP Media Center Edition When I was using the Windows XP Media Center Edition CD from Dell to install it onto the M it said it was installing Windows XP Professional but I thought nothing of it Is this a mere coincidence I installed the drivers that I got directly from Dell s site The only yellow s or s I have are - base system device - base system device - base system device - hidden Serial I ve read that the Serial isn t important and that the base system devices are just for SD cards and the like Anyone have a clue I ll provide more information just specify I m trying to give as much information as possible I m not sure where to turn now Thanks nbsp

So. The primary power button is non-responsive.

The media direct button works after you hold it for a few seconds.

It also loads into media direct if you put the battery back into the laptop automatically without touching any buttons.

It sometime spontaneously starts into media direct when the screen in closed and turned off.

I cannot gain access to the windows environment or bios, or access the boot Cd's because it won't turn on via the main power button.

A:Dell XPS M1210 - Only boots into media direct

Also the first few restarts after the re-install were flawless.

I've just put in another hdd from a m1210 and the main power button won't work either, but it loads into windows, perhaps media direct was't installed on this hdd.

If your trying to change a bios setting or Reformat any of the newer Dell Laptop's you may run into this issue! There is an Administrator password you will be prompted for. I believe this is created at the factory and unplugging the bios battery no longer does the trick! I tried many different passwords combos and found that:

<dell> all lowercase and minus the brackets works for a few of the newer Dell Laptops

Good Luck,

Frajile-

A:Dell Bios Admin Password/Inspiron 1720

That makes no sense at all. If it were true then Dell would have to provide the password as part of the information it provides to customers when they buy the laptop. Anything else would subject them to being sued.

A:Multiple corrupt files occuring on Dell XPS M1210

hi lofling, and welcome!

have these errors always happened or did it work ok for a while?

sometimes mail order computers get shaken up in transit - I would open the case and make sure all the connections are tight, especially around hard drive.

But hard-drives do fail, and Dell use cheap ones. You may have had a head crash, in which case particles are floating around and the problems will get worse. Does the bad block count increase each time you run check disk?

I would not waste any more time reinstalling on this hard drive.

Hi all. A friend of mine dropped a small dell XPS 1210 into my lap. The laptop is really nice in that it is very tiny, but it seems to have a wierd display problem. I originally attributed it to a worn inverter card, but I am not sure. Anyway, the laptop will boot and before Windows XP can finish starting, the display will go dark. YOu can still see the icons and the system will function normally, but the backlighting is dead.

However, when you hook the unit up to S-Video output, the screen's backlighting will work normally, and it will also output a display onto the TV. When you plug the laptop into the charging receptical, the screen will go dim, but once again, hooking it to a television will revive the display.

Anyone ever heard of this? This is really wierd.

Hi
I need to either change a guest log in (kid's access) to
adminstrator, or a way to reveal or change the password

I tried this already: Run: cmd net user guest *
I tried to rest the guest password this way but
it didn't work - I'm thinking it is because I am not
logged on as admin in the first place. What do I do now?
Thx

A:change guest login to admin or figure out admin password

you cant change an admins pw from a guest account....at all

only way to change the admin pw is to boot to safe mode and enter the sys admin account or use a hacking program iso which you can find easily but use at your own risk....

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

A:Windows 10 admin password reset or new account with admin rights

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

Hi, I work at a pawn shop, and we have a problem we have never encountered before.  This laptop, which is cleared and is now for sale in the shop, now asks for an administrator password or power on password.  It did not do this when it was brought in, nor when it was pulled from the back.  We were going to power it on for a customer, and it just started asking us for this password. I have seen in another post that you enter through it 3 times to get a code, so here is the code:61987774 Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello,

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

Place your Windows CD in your cd-rom and start your computer ( make that the bios set to boot from CD)2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd. Typically, it will be ?Press any key to boot from cd?3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair. It should read something like ?If one of the following Windows installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it?Use the up and down arrow keys to select your installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically ? you will see a progress bar stating ?Your computer will reboot in 15 seconds?9. During the reboot, do not make the mistake of ?pressing any key? to boot from the CD again! Setup will resume automatically with the standard billboard screens and you will notice Installing Windows is highlighted.10. Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen and when you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This is the security hole! A command console will now open up giving you the potential for wide access to your system.11. At the prompt, type NUSRMGR.CPL and press Enter. Voila! You have just gained graphical access to your User Accounts in the Control Panel.12. Now simply pick the account you need to change and remove or change your password as you prefer. If you want to log on without having to enter your new password, you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password. After you've made your changes close the windows, exit the command box and continue on with the Repair (have your Product key handy).13. Once the Repair is done, you will be able to log on with your new password (or without a password if you chose not to use one or if you chose not to be asked for a password). Your programs and personalized settings should remain intact.

You might want to read the rules, no help with passwords.

If you don't have the password...am I correct in assuming that you are not the Admin?

Exactly what are you trying to do and why?

I deleted a user account on my computer and now I can't get into some of my programs or system restore because it says I am not an administrator! And I don't know the admin password as it belonged to a previous owner and they are unavailable. When I boot up my pc I have to do the control, alt, delete thing and then I put in the password I've been using but it still locks me out of all kinds of stuff. And when I open up internet explorer I get an information bar that says my security settings are putting my computer at risk and to click here to change them. I checked all the settings and they are as they have always been and I have run McAfee several times and it says everything is ok. Can we somehow add me as admin or bypass that completely or even just get into system restore??? Please help!

A:No admin password

try booting into safe mode by pressing F8 during the initial startup. By default, Windows has a hidden Administrator account with no password. If the machine was owned by someone with a little tiny bit of knowledge, they would have booted into safe mode and set the default Administrator password (which everyone should do), and you will know that you need to take the computer to a local store or support center.

I want to be able to download updates for my programs, eg. iTunes, but i am only a standard user. When i go to update a program, a window poops up asking for the Admin password. Now I have a school laptop and I do not know what the Admin password is. Thus i cannot update my programs. I have attempted to change the password using cmd and some batch files but none of these work as my cmd says, system error 5 access denied. This is very frustrating as I wish to update my programs. Please help. P.s. I have windows 7 professional (if that helps)

So my mom just got a new DELL Latitude D610. She had her administrator at her office set it up for her (she owns the company ) the guy has done this **** before and it really pisses me off, he doesn't setup my mom with any capabilities, he makes himself the admin and my mom doesn't have the password on hand until she talks to him. Frankly i'm sick of it. My mom left the computers CD's at work or I would have reformatted the computer, is there any easy way to do this tonight? Any program to find out the admin password or anything to make an account an admin acount?

Thanks

is there a way to find out the admins password on a network.

A:admin password

Yes. Ask the admin using e-mail for example

No one will be able to give a sensible answer to such a vague question.

And no, no one is going to tell you how to steal peoples passwords and do other illegal or unethical stuff.

This may have been asked but the server won't let me search.

When the tech guy setup up my computer he probably asked me for an admin's password. I can't remember what I told him and nothing I try works.

I'm the only user and my user account doesn't seem to have a password when I log on. But to use the admin, which someday I surely will I don't have a pw and the program says a blank won't do.

If you know of a method or program that will retrieve it I will really appreciate learning about it.

Thanks,

Bob

See the following document. It explains how to reset the printer to its factory default settings. That would include resetting the admin password to the factory default.http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5245583&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03...

So, this is probably something you get every day. but I think it's different.
My friend's mom put a password on his computer which stops him from running programs of the downloaded variety.
Where the problem arises is fairly obvious. He can't run ANYTHING which has been downloaded, making his computer essentially a potato. Is there a way past this? Is there a way to remove this password, restoring his computer back to a usable state?

=Keep in mind, i've already tried the net-user thing in CMD. "Access is denied."

A:Admin Password

Yes, tell him to do his chores and get good grades so his mother may give him the password.
