I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

- You system does not boot up?
- Is there any POST beep?
- Does the monitor turn on?
- Do you hear the fans/drives start?
- Does this always happen or just sometimes?
- How old are the parts in this system?

You may want to:

- Re-seat and reconnect everything in system except the CPU.
- Check the motherboard or video card for bad capacitors. This shows some examples.

A:Problem with flashing my acer aspire 7745G.

Hello Jack, I didn't find any jumper near the Memory banks nore anywhere else. So I dismount the Laptop as shown on youtube. After removing all the screws and dismounting the keyboard I finally reached the RTC Battery. 2 Buttons near the battery SW2 and SW3. I tried everything, remove the battery, used the 2 buttons (one after the other, both together, ...), with battery, without battery. Nothing worked. The laptop Switch on,  flashed briefly and the Fan started and stopped again.    At the end, I found the Laptop PDF handbook. I tried to make the Bios recovery procedure to boot in "crisis" mode as explained.  Nothing woked. Even if it had worked fine, I couldn'd find any Rom File by Acer to flash it again.  So I think I'm to stupid to handel with Acer Notebooks and will send it Back to Acer (to recycle it :-) and close the post.    Thank everybody for your help and greatings from a little sad and disgusted frenchmen.     Thierry.

Hey,

I've had this laptop (an Acer Aspire 2930Z) for nearly two years and just today something unusual has started to happen - a pink light has been flashing outside the power button and the battery is supposedly not charging.

I can re-plug the adapter later and everything seems to be fine, then the pink light will happen. It's either the battery or the power adapter that's causing issues, but I'm not sure which. I'd assume it's just the adapter, but some assistance would be appreciated.

Hi everyone. So I ran into a really wierd problem on my moms laptop this am. Whenever I try to boot up the laptop, the acer screen will show then quickly go to a black screen that will say missing boot manager press alt control del to restart or it will go to a black screen that has a handful of colorful boxes, some with flashing symbols, letters, or numbers. It is the weirdest thing ever. I try to restart the pc and can't enter enter bios or separate boot screen. I have pushed and held down all the f keys and am completely stumped. I have attached a picture so hopefully you can see what I am talking about. Please let me know if you need any other info from me. Thanks in advance!

A:Acer Aspire E1-731-4699 wierd flashing symbols aft...

Hi David,

My initial response is that this is a hard drive issue but could be as simple as a case of software corruption and I'll explain what I see.

So there are slight variations to the error message. If you see "No Bootable Device" it's more likely that the HDD is not be detected, but the missing boot manager message sounds like an error with the boot manager which is software that loads the OS and could possibly be corrected with a reinstall of Windows. Some steps you can try would be to tap ALT+F10 as soon as you turn the device on. Right after the Acer screen it would start loading a hidden partition on the HDD to start a recovery process. If that doesn't work, if you created a backup USB you can use that or if necessary you could obtain a backup from our Acer Store.

Here's a link to our recovery processes that may help: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934

was trying to flash bios on an acer aspire one d260-2680 to see if it will reset the bios password, already downloaded the lastest from acer site but it comes with two files AV70310A.fd and AV70310B.fd.

been trying to follow a tutorial, http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer-aspire-one-bios-recovery.html, but unsure if this will work for this particular model since it says to rename the bios file but the one they use has a different initial file name.

just curious which one i should use the 'A' or the 'B' bios and if i would need to rename it something else.
also any other info or suggestions would be welcome, thanks.

A:Flashing BIOS on Acer Extensa from windows 7 64 bit

You really should update the bios from a dos boot utility and the applicable software that can run in that. Put all the files not in the Winflash folder on a dos floppy disk. Then boot to it. Run the phlash16.exe in dos.

If you want to try in Windows, it should be fine. 32 bit software works well on 64 bit OS. Just close everything not needed for Windows to run first when going to do it. Use the task manager to forcibly close things if needed. Also, close antivirus and firewalls too.

For those owning an Acer Aspire Timeline Series...The New Acer Bios from Apr 06,2010 v1.34 screw-up the Intel GMA 4500M HD by reducing the battery life by half, because a box is grayed in the GMA Control Panel.

Acer had provided a second new v1.34 Bios on Apr 07,2010 to correct the wrong settings in the Intel GMA 4500M HD.

As usual be carefull when updating your bios settings.

Find on the screenshot how the settings should be, to improve the battery life. (before the box was grayed & unchecked):

If you are trying to make changes to secure boot(to disable), you may have to create a Password, go to security tab, set superwiser password, click enter and create a new password, make sure you write it in a safe place and make an easy to remember, even better.

Hello!

I have an Acer Aspire One, that doesn't boot into Windows or into Safe Mode. I have tried to Flash the Bios as explained on many other sites, but I can't get that to run. I have also tried to F8 to Repair Computer option, but I do not get Repair Computer as an option. I'm stumped! When I restart it, it gives me the option to run in Safe Mode, if I do that it gets hung up on file: amdagp.sys. If I start normally it gets stuck on the Windows start screen. Help!!

A:Acer Aspire One won't boot, can't flast bios!

F8 is to access Safe Mode, Alt-F10 is used to access the Acer Recovery partition. See this link on the Acer website. I'm not sure why you were trying to flash the BIOS as that most likely wouldn't fix your boot problem.

Hi! Im new here and i need big HELP.

Last year me and my sister bought this Acer Aspire 4730z model.

The technician told me that to install Xp you need to set BIOS Sata Mode to IDE. Because AHCI is for vista.

Now i wanna install it for Windows 7 ultimate 32bit.

The notebook now runs XP system and in BIOS Sata Mode = IDE

AHCI is advanced host controller interface for running sata mode ,when you insert the win7 dvd when it reaches the where do you want to install stage you will be given the opputunity to reformat the disk, a clean install is always advisable

Can anyone tell me how to flash the bios for an acer aspire t180?

A:Acer Aspire T180 BIOS flash

When you download the BIOS file from Acer, here: http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1 and after you unzip the file, you will find a file named WINFLASH.HLP. Double click on it and open it and it will give you instructions on how to flash the BIOS in your PC.

By accident, I changed my BIOS from UEFI to Legacy BIOS.  Now when I turn it on, it quickly flashes every 5 sconds, and screen is always black (no Acer logo screen, nothing).  I tried FN + F2 to bring up the BIOS settings menu again but it doesn't work (that's the key combo I used to get BIOS menu up when I switch it to Legacy BIOS by accident).  Is there a different key combo to bring up BIOS menu again so I can switch it back to UEFI?

Not FN + F2, just F2. Start rapidly tapping as soon as you push start.

Hello guys,

I have just come across a serious issue with my 4 year old Acer Aspire 5536 (I know its old but i like it and it still performs). Anyway when pressing the power button the fan speeds up the lights come on but the computer will not start.

To get my computer to start I need to power on the computer and cover the fan vent for about 10 mins and restart and after i have done that it will run perfectly.

Does anybody have any ideas? I would prefer to fix the issue rather than buy a new laptop

Jason

A:Acer Aspire 5536 Bios Won't Boot

You have to cover the fan vent to get it to start ? One of the problems with laptops not starting or overheating is dust clogging up the internal CPU fan causing it to stop and thus overheat and shut down the system which CPUs are designed to do, so I am surprised that by covering the fan vent this allows the laptop to start or am I not understanding your problem ?

Hi!Last year me and my sister bought this Acer Aspire 4730z model. The technician told me that to install Xp you need to set BIOS Sata Mode to IDE. Because AHCI is for vista. Now i wanna install it for Windows 7 ultimate 32bit.The notebook now runs XP system and in BIOS Sata Mode = IDEWould i change it to AHCI in BIOS for windows 7?If yes?If i insert the Windows 7 Installation Disk upon booting up. Will it detect the XP? because i wanna delete the system in XP and run fresh installation for Windows 7.What is really the difference between IDE and AHCI in bios?Added...Is it compatible to use windows 7 in Acer Aspire 4730z?

A:Acer Aspire 4730z Bios Help for windows 7

Windows 7 is a lot like vista when compared to windows XP.If your tech said to use AHCI for vista. Then you should use it for Windows 7 as well. You also asked "If i insert the Windows 7 Installation Disk upon booting up. Will it detect the XP? because i wanna delete the system in XP and run fresh installation for Windows 7."Yes make sure it formats the hard drive and wipes windows XP off the disk. Because you can NOT upgrade XP to windows 7 anyways. (thats a little rule MS made with upgrading from XP)As I have been reading up on AHCI it is supposed to have a slight performance advantage and it makes the drives hot swapable. (more info on the link below, look for a link to Intel's web site in that MS artical.)If you enable AHCI and have stop errors at any point, please refer to this Mirosoft knowledge base artical regarding AHCI. In fact read it any ways it helps to explain what AHCI is and where to get more info on it from Intel's website.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

In the the BIOS setup I've changed from UEFI to Legacy mode and have reordered the sequence to 1.DVD 2.HD 3.Acer Mananger. The original order was: 1. Acer Manger; 2. HD 3. DVD. Hello,

I will need to access the BIOS of my Acer Aspire One AOA150.

However, I don't actually have the BIOS password; to be fair, I don't know how to get any form of hint for it, either (the message box says 'ENTER BIOS PASSWORD [?]' so there is one, but I don't know how to activate it).

How could I hack this BIOS password, obviously not disassembling a netbook which would be difficult anyway considering it is small?

(Reason: I need to remove Xubuntu and reinstall XP with all partitions belonging to it, which I believe requires BIOS access. I already have a bootable USB with the correct drivers for Windows XP, and I know how to remove most of Xubuntu. I would keep Linux if I had the disc space, though, but unfortunately I have to give it the boot.)

Hello. I am having some trouble with a Acer Aspire laptop. I have change the bios from UEFI to legacy and now everytime I load up I get a Operation System Not Found message. I've tried pressing F2 but then I hear a beeping noise coming from my laptop and I still get the OS not found message. I also tried Alt+F10 but nothing happened. I'm not sure what I can do. Is there some way I can atleast get back into the BIOS and change it back?

A:Acer Aspire V5-571P-6429: Can't get into BIOS

I too could not get into UEFI (BIOS) on my V5-531P after entering UEFI thru Windows 10 to change the boot order to try out Ubuntu booting it from a USB Flashdrive. My shock came when no matter of timing pushing F2 or F12 as I'd set up the BIOS to do would let me in, (even though the splash screen clearly showed the option to do so on the bottom of the screen.) SOLUTION:- From off, press and hold the power button in the on position for 2 minutes. Release the power button and press again to power on. - My computer then proceeded to recognize it had a hard drive and Windows 10 opened! What a relief !! Note: The power button LED will initially light and then turn off, the screen will be blank... keep holding down the button Background:- I read the BIOS needed updating, couldn't do that as I couldn't get into Windows to run the .exe file Acer releases come in.- I read I needed to remove the HD. I did so, taking the laptop way apart to do so. Nothing, same "No Operating System"- I read I needed to push F2 as soon as the computer came on, even before the splash screen.- I even got a Windows 10 ISO and made a bootable USB Flashdrive. At least Windows on the Flashdrive could access the HD! Still no solution to boot to Windows on the HD. The takeaway from all this is; I spent a day and a half of misery trying everything I could think of to solve this. All other suggested solutions on the web I came across didn't help. Then I found the hold down the power button solution and out of desperation... tried it! So1) Update your BIOS to the latest release.2) Make a Windows 'Rescue Disc' on a USB stick and put it somewhere safe.3) Then go change your boot order in UEFI (BIOS)

This one is a 5820T. I downloaded the zip file for this model from the Acer website and after extracting I find two executables, one for DOS, one for Windows. Nothing else. (ZQ1_125.exe for both - not .bat - not .rom). There is no "Flash-it" file, no.FD file.

I have always flashed a BIOS on boot from floppy or USB. And I have always advised to never flash a BIOS from inside Windows. So the thought of this being the only way is making me ill.

If there is a way to do it USB I could use a walk-thru. Thanks.

A:Has anyone flashed a BIOS on an Acer Aspire Laptop?

I have an aspire 5935g and did update the bios successfully within windows but must admit that was long before signing up here and reading endless people saying not to do it that way, however it worked out fine in my case. I think the consensus is to only flash the bios if it provides a fix you need.

Just looked through the download I used and the DOS version does contain a flash it file. Here is what I had.

DOS
Windows
I know thats probably not any help but thats just my experience

Good Luck

The notebook belongs to a friend. He has had it for less than 4 years. I have tried everything possible. Looking at dead devices etc. The fan, the cmos battery are all in working order. It is not the screen because i connected it to an HDMI monitor and it still will not go thru the boot sequence. I looked for a BIOS update and found references for a different acer model. It could be a damaged motherboard or a component on board the MB. Just asking have I missed something here?

A:Acer Aspire E5-571-35LV Will not load BIOS

Probably a corrupted BIOS/broken motherboard, if the power is on and shows options, place them here now. If not, you NEED to contact Acer Support, modification of BIOS unoffically/voiding warranty parts like the motherboard will cause you to lose your warranty COMPLETELY. Regardless, Acer support is your best option if it is in warranty.

Hello, so basically I have a Acer aspire one 725 laptop and it won't boot at all, just a blank screen... I've tried various methods of getting it to work, but no luck as of yet...
Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knew how to do a flash BIOS using a USB stick as I was told this could fix the issue. I've seen some posts online but they seem to be for the older aspire one range...
I've already downloaded the BIOS file from the Acer website...

A:How to Flash Bios on a Acer Aspire One 725 - Windows 8???

Can you see the bios screen at all or get into the bios? If not then you wont be able to see anything.

My laptop won't boot after I changed the video configuration settings in the bios. Any time I turn on the laptop it just makes a clicking noise & switches itself back off so I cannot change the settings back.
I have tried to reset the cmos battery but I have been unable to remove the keyboard to get to it.
is there a way I can get my laptop working again?

A:Acer Aspire 5750 Won't Boot After Changes in Bios Settings

With your receipt, take laptop to any busines-oriented computer store [for example I've used Altex in AustinTX], let them fix the problem for you. Once, they've fixed your laptop, make changes in video configurations in Windows OS, after making external media backups of your OS partition.

My boyfriend s computer kept going to the black screen of death I could go to the Boot order screen but nothing else When I clicked F for BIOS settings it just went back to the black screen of death I found that generally a BIOS Acer BIOS Attempt Aspire One Power No After Flash flash will do the trick so I started following the instructions I formatted a memory stick loaded the files needed and properly named I turned the laptop off stuck the memory stick in held FN amp Acer Aspire One No Power After BIOS Flash Attempt Esc pressed the power Acer Aspire One No Power After BIOS Flash Attempt and let go of FN amp Esc I was super happy when the power button started flashing Here is where I messed up-big time I had two sets of instructions that were pretty much the exact same except one said that when the power light started flashing to push it and the other said not to I chose the wrong set-I pushed the power button and it shut off I thought maybe it would come back on in a few minutes by itself but Acer Aspire One No Power After BIOS Flash Attempt no luck So I went to start it over thinking this time to not push the power button But now it will not turn on at all When I put the battery in the battery light shows orange for half a second and then quickly fades away The same thing happens with the AC adapter Just to make sure I also tried with my own battery same model computer and AC adapter Same thing Tried the non-working computer s adapter and battery on my laptop-they worked fine I tried doing what I think is called a drain by taking the battery and adapter out of the non-working computer and holding the power down for about a minute plugging the adapter back in and pressing power Same thing happened-the orange light top left hand corner that shows that there is power being supplied showed very shortly before fading away Pressing the power button feels and acts as pointless as trying to turn a light switch on when the electricity is off I also tried another version of the drain I found-clicking the power five times while everything is unplugged and then trying Again no luck Please please please help me fix this I can not believe I pretty much destroyed a computer by pressing the power button I am heartbroken nbsp

A:Acer Aspire Black screen. Help with bios flash please

I doubt if this is a BIOS issue but it's possible the computer was bricked after a bad flash that you said failed.

What happens when you tap F8 at boot? Do you get the Advanced Boot Options. I am assuming this is Windows 7. You cannot access Safe Mode with Windows 8 or 10 using F8.

Do you need any data on the hard drive? If not, would you be willing to do a factory reset? If you do need the data would you be willing to do a factory reset after recovering the data?

What was the OS that came with this computer?  Was it upgraded to Windows 10?

Do you have another computer you can burn an iso file to CD? I am hoping you can boot a CD or USB flash drive on this computer.

I'm trying to fix a laptop of a friend > Acer Aspire 3050-1854
The operating system is Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
I reformatted the operating system but the laptop refuses to boot, basically what I get is a "black screen of death" when I boot up. I searched the net for a solution and from what I found I believe that the issue at hand is that the BIOs is corrupt. Now from: http://lowendguru.com/ - on the main page the video that is shown is what my problem is. I understand what has to be done but can someone confirm what I would have to rename the files in question that were renamed to for the laptop in question of my friend as the video that is shown on the website is for a laptop that is different.

Thank you,

A:Acer Aspire 3050-1854 - How to Fix Corrupt BIOS

A BIOS is pretty hard to corrupt unless you are actually trying to do a firmware upgrade and it fails thus corrupting the BIOS. If it refuses to boot you may not have installed the OS correctly or did not install it at all.
