BIOS image file check sum error

Q: BIOS image file check sum error

I have a asus a8n delexe sli which gaves the above error when I do alt f2 on post to enter the flash utility. I was driven to reinstall bios or upgrade it because I am getting freezing; reboot issues; missing drivers; unrecognised hardware issues etc. I have swapped out drives, video cards, reinstalled OS and even swapped PSU to no avail. So has my motherboard just had it?
I folllowed asus instructions and copied the bios to a floppy disk and tried to flash from that. Although I copied all three files in the downloaded zip so I presume it would select the exe file automatically. I will download again. Should it work if I copied to a blank CD? I presume the bios would automatically pull the exe from any device besides the hard drive? I get this error with or without the floppy inserted?

Preferred Solution: BIOS image file check sum error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have asus A8N SLI Deluxe mobo After power failures from storms and the power company. When try to boot the pc up I get bios check sum erros halts and looks for awdflash.exe file. I have tried to load from the cd that came with mobo. The bios does not not flash. I've also removed to battery and power for 20 min. with no luck.
The problem remains. Thank you fro your help Randy.

A:Bios check sum error

Your board manufacturer will have a set of bios files on their website. If you can get to another computer and d/l them, they will work. you will have to create a startup disk with the format utility, and then copy the awdflh.exe file and the bios file that come with the d/l to the floppy disk. Then when your computer boots up pop this disk into it, and have it boot from it. It will load up to a dos prompt.

Then enter the command awdflash.exe *enterbiosfilenamehere*.version number and press enter.

Ex. For one of my boards i would do A:/awdflash.exe v7030vms.360

Make sure there is a space between the command and file to use. This should fix your problem

Also I just went to the ASUS website to check for the files for you, and it says your board, assuming I have the correct one (A8N32-SLI Deluxe)
is an AMI BIOS. which means the above command would be wrong.

Instead the utility and bios files are located here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A8N32-SLI Deluxe

You are looking for the DOS one, not the ASUSupdate tool, because you can't get into windows.
And the version you would want is 1303. The newer ones are just betas. Let me know if this works.

Edit Think my hard drive may be failing and was the cause of my file synchronizing crash I use it mostly to stream music and video and access the hard drive a lot Any advice thanks HDDStatus - Tool to check hard disk status health and reliability Hey I've been using GoodSync for the past couple of months to chain synchronize hard disk drives and ran into my first issue today GoodSync stopped responding whilst synchronizing changes to files so I used task manager to manually end the process I'm not entirely sure how much damage has been caused but when I re-analyzed the file changes a lot of the changes prior to the crash was no longer listed So I'm unsure of the file integrity but have so far noticed some music video files are corrupt with cyclic redundancy check errors but is not easily visible to check corrupt files because they still play but parts of data are missing I think I've experienced cyclic redundancy check errors before when my external hard drive fell flat on it's side whilst it was playing music years ago It took me a long time to filter out the bad files because all the mp files worked but some songs would randomly play in others etc is their some type of automated CRC scanner or method to check all my files Thanks

Ok this is really gonna sound very very complicated But I will explain to you one by one I have this laptop with Windows as the operating system and with a capacity of GB My HDD was making loud noises and weird noises so I brought it to the shop and they told me to change the HDD because it might die anytime So I did error Image File System a full backup on my external hardisk meaning that I cloned my laptop I changed my gb HDD with a gb SSD And when I tried to restore my backup files into the new drive there's an error quot no disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found quot So I did some research on the internet and found out the reason of the error it's because the image created was from a bigger drive than the new drive I put into my laptop Even though my backup files are only about gb I still cant restore it to my gb SSD because the image created was from my gb HDD Now I am trying to fix this do you think this will work I am going to copy my backup files into an external hardisk with a capacity of gb and then backup from that drive and then I will restore it into my gb SSD Will the backup file be considered as a backup from the gb drive or from the original gb HDD

A:System Image File error

Hello aruwin and welcome to Seven Forums.

This might be one of those times when it's advisable to spend $20 to fix this issue. Paragon has a migration tool that will take your HDD system image and transfer it to a smaller SSD.

Assuming you used the native Windows 7 backup and imaging tool, you could have additional problems trying to copy the image to a smaller HDD. Apparently, Windows 7 doesn't offer the same flexibility as other imaging tools like Acronis, Macrium, etc. It may not be worth the risk to damage or corrupt your only image.

Paragon Migrate OS to SSD - System migration to Solid State Drives (SSD) - Overview

Perhaps some other Forum members know of a completely free utility that would accomplish the same thing as the Paragon migration tool.

Hi, Google Chrome was not starting up so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I've tried this multiple times but every time at the end of the installation I get this error:

"chrome.exe - Bad Image"
C:\Users\HpUser\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\18.0.1025.168\chrome.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I've tried to do a bit of research online and I've tried the suggested solution of running a registry cleaner. I have downloaded and run several different ones already (CCleaner, Registry Easy, Reg Cure).

I have also deleted the entire 18.0.1025.168 folder. But I can see it gets recreated during the installation process and the same error pops up again.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks v.much.

A:Chrome bad image error for .dll file

A bad image for a downloaded package usually means that the download is corrupted, the fix for which is to download it again (preferrably from a different server if possible in case it's a server problem).

Also, go easy throwing all sorts of cleanup utilities at your PC (esp registry cleaners) as that could leave you in a worse mess.

Hello and thanks in advance for the help.

I have a Dell laptop for work and somehow got some malware. When ever I open programs or start the computer I would get a lot of error messages that would say ""The application or DLL .... is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I read on another post that recommended you download and run AdwareSE and Spybot S&D and then run an online virus Scan. That resolved alot of the error messages but I still had some.

That post them recommended running hijackthis and post the log here for help.

So Help? Please?

Here is the log:

Thanks,

My systems continues to complete a "checking file system c: FAT 32 file" and does this continuously and will not take me to the desktop. What is happening and how can I fix this problem? Can anyone help?? Thanks in advance.

A:Check Disk Error File Fat 32

Try to boot into safe mode (press F8 a few times after the PCs first beep at bootup) and let chkdsk finish. Then click on Start/Run and type in MSCONFIG to see if it is entered there under one of the boot menus. Stop it if you can.

I created a image file using Imagex, then used Imagex to split the file into 3.5GB chunks, then burned those to individual DVDs. Now when I try to restore them I get an error:

The specified image file did not contain a resource selection

I have tried both:

imagex /apply f:\image.swm 1 c:

and
imagex /apply f:\image.swm /ref f:\image*.swm c:

Both result in the same error.

A:Error restoring split image file

How many files did it split into? Maybe the number should be the last file, not the first, as that is where I would expect the index/recombine info to be.

If 4 files were created, then

imagex /apply f:\image.swm 4 c:

perhaps?

Edit: No, that doesn't work.

This tutorial describes how to do it but I'm having trouble following it:

Bsod error occurs 2 3 times a day displaying netio.sys error.

please find dump file attached

dump file

A:BsoD error please check the dump file

You need to do two things.

First of all, you have to believe and understand that QuickHeal is crap. Its desi, its cheap, it shows performance visually, but it does not do what is supposed to. Plus it contributes to BSOD and causes other issues there.

Uninstall QuickHeal as it is contributing to your BSOD.

Code:
fffff880`033cb148 fffff880`0457568fUnable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\wsnf.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for wsnf.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for wsnf.sys
wsnf+0xc68f
Driver Reference Table - wsnf.sys

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Next, go to Intel Customer Support ... search for any possible update to your WiFi driver. It is failing.

Code:
fffff880`033ca748 fffff880`0585aa00Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\Netwsw00.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for Netwsw00.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for Netwsw00.sys
Netwsw00+0x15a00
And it is old, too.

Code:
Image name: Netwsw00.sys
Timestamp: Sun Jun 03 21:03:40 2012 (4FCB83D4)
Let us know for any further BSOD after doing these two.

When attempting to install a Fuji Image Memory Card
Reader DPC-R1 I receive a series of errors:
1. Runtime Error File 53 not found
2. Error in Newdev.dll. Missing Entry: ClientSide Install

I have located the file. It is in:
C:\Windows\
C:\Windows\System32
C:\Windows\Driver Cache
C:\windows\LastGood\System32
C:\windows\LastGood\System32\Dll cache

I followed the installation instructions by installing
the software with the Memory Card not connected to the
USB, restarting the computer, then attaching the memory
card reader to the USB. When I checked the device driver
it indicated no driver was installed but I could not
browse to install the driver. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

I have a five-month old HP Compaq Presario Laptop, which has been working fairly decently (I've had a few virus scares, and my Norton quarrentined something a twenty days ago). On HP's advice, I just updated the BIOS on my laptop. It's currently stuck at Verifying New Bios Image, and it's at 100% - It's been stuck that way for a half-hour plus. Any advice? HI ALL My OS is win and i am getting the error message quot error writing temporary file check to see if temporary directory is valid quot whenever i attempt to open a new setup file I can download new programs but can t open them afterwards I suspect corrupt windows files but when looking for quot System File Checker quot on my pc I discovered it isn t a default package in windows and needs to be writing temporary directory file..check if see error to temp is to valid installed off of the windows Pro disk I attempted to install the system tools off of the disk as described by the readme documents on the win pro disk and i couldn t install it because I received the same error message cited above I then thought i would deceive my pc by downloading windows installer from the Microsoft website by opening the file rather error writing to temporary file..check to see if temp directory is valid than saving and installing which I knew i wouldnt be able to do and got the message quot file already exists quot I error writing to temporary file..check to see if temp directory is valid am at a complete loss as to what to do next All help is appreciated Thanks PCSleuth nbsp

A:error writing to temporary file..check to see if temp directory is valid

things to check

Do you actually have the rights to install ? Unless you have admin rights, you cannot.

Do you have a temporary directory? That is usually c:\windows\temp (I prefer c:\temp myself), and this is defined in your systems 'temp' and possibly also 'tmp' environmental variable (look for system properties/environment variables).

Not every installer uses these settings - crappy sofware might do all sorts of odd, non-standard things. In other words, expects to be able to create a directory anywhere it likes. In this case, you would need admin rights to the whole machine, and not have certain directories marked read-only. Can't help on crappy software....but the inability to install an OS add-on points most towards the first problem I mentioned.

Hello, and to the Malware Removal forum! My online alias is Blade Zephon, or Blade for short, and I will be assisting you with your malware issues! If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know.In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine. Before we begin cleaning your machine, I'd like to lay out some guidelines for us to follow while we are working together.I will be assisting you with your malware issues. This may or may not resolve other problems you are having with your computer. If you are still having problems after your machine has been determined clean, I will be glad to direct you to the proper forum for assistance.Even if things appear better, that does not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions until I give you the all clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that all the malware has been removed. If a piece of the infection is left, it can regenerate and reinfect your machine. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.I ask that you please refrain from running tools other than those I suggest to you while I am cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so I know what is going on with the machine at any time. If you act independently it will cause changes to your system that I will not be aware of, which will make the process of cleaning the machine a much slower and more difficult process. Additionally, some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. Please perform all steps in the order received. If you are unsure or confused about any instructions I give you, you should ask me to clarify before doing anything. Additionally, if you run into any problems while carrying out instructions, you should STOP and reply back here explaining what happened. After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed. If you need additional time, that is perfectly alright; you just need to let us know beforehand. ***************************************************Please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread. We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Background I have a Sony PC using XP Multimedia edition SP and the environment is traditionally very stable It came with a Resetting (error: IDs?) Disc Check new security file nightmare ~?Invalid IDs, single hard drive partitioned with GB to the c and GB to the d A few years ago my c was running out of space even though it s only OS and Apps so I acquired a copy of Partition Magic and reallocated GB over to the c Seamless It was beautiful Now a few years later I m running out of room again and I tried the same thing but somehow hosed it up Note I was sure to first do a full Disc Check Defrag and backup before reallocating During the Partition Magic process a script running before XP boots there was and Disc Check nightmare (error: ~?Invalid file security IDs, Resetting new IDs?) error don t remember the error number digits but the process controlled Disc Check nightmare (error: ~?Invalid file security IDs, Resetting new IDs?) the error and quit did not freeze the machine I Disc Check nightmare (error: ~?Invalid file security IDs, Resetting new IDs?) loaded XP and using the Partition Magic reallocation wizard again tried a second time resulting in the same error At some point I did a Disc Check again on the c and d and upon reboot before XP loaded an error came up Invalid file security ID Resetting new ID or something to that effect and it ripped sequentially through thousands of files this happened for the d not the c During this min blue screen horror show the file names were sequential numeric not English so perhaps an index table or something Yikes My instinct was to immediately turn off the machine and try to save whatever I could but since I had a full backup I reluctantly tried to relax and figured it s better to let it run all the way through and perhaps everything consistently wrong would be more recoverable To my complete astonishment the machine started fine and I had a d drive and was able to access files on the d Whooooh Heart rate starts to slow down But wait dark evil things lurk beyond Problem So I m happy as a lark scanning family pictures and moving files around organizing and somehow numerous new jpg files became corrupted Turns out that I can copy files around from c to d from d to d etc and everything seems fine but intermittently newly moved files from within Explorer on the d will corrupt The files appear to have been moved fine but they become not accessible delete-able rename-able I have to shell out to DOS to delete the files In one case a directory became corrupt and it had a long name and I was not able to access from DOS so I downloaded Unlocker freeware and struggled to finally remove the directory So I m intermittently hitting land mines here corrupting files loosing files Everything seems fine but I can t move files around It s affecting old data new data not repeatable not containable and consistently intermittent I think it is only affecting the d partition So I ve somehow hosed a file reference table or something Maybe the table that converts DOS files to full bit XP file names I ve done multiple full Kaspersky scans of the machine but nothing has come up I hate to go to the considerable trouble of uninstalling apps that were installed to the d because there was no room on the c and reformatting my d partition and hope it goes away without understanding the problem and trying to resolve it which always seems to work best Is there a tool that will resync fix this partition Or maybe I ll be forced to reformate the entire drive c and the d The PC came with installed software so I don t have clean discs to start from scratch This sucks This is not a data recovery issue I have backups it s a can I fix the d partition as elegantly as possible so it works properly issue Note When I say Disc Check I mean just the standard Explorer right-clicking on the d and selecting Properties Tools Check Now and selecting both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of... A:Disc Check nightmare (error: ~“Invalid file security IDs, Resetting new IDs”)

I've had my head buried in the sand trying to make the problem magically go away. No luck with that. I had to reformat the d: partition to fix the problem. All seems fine now. In the future, before using Partition Magic, I will toggle the disc properties for indexing, whereby all files on the drive get touched to change the file properties. Through that I was able to uncover a few corrupt files and delete them via DOS. Then Partition Magic worked fine. Strangely a DiscChk did not catch the corrupt files.

Every time I open Word this pops up. I can no longer insert pictures of clipart into my documents and I looked into the system properties/environment variables but am at a loss....someone who knows what this means please inform me as to what needs to be done so that my
program begins to work properly again. Thank you.

A:Error : Word could not create a work file. Check Temp Environment Variable

There is some sort of problem with the Windows temp folder (perhaps deleted by mistake?). To check (and fix if needed) right click on "my computer" and select "properties". In the box that opens click on the "advanced" tab. Now click the button near the bottom marked "environment variables". The path to the Windows temp folder will be shown at the top part of the box. Check to see if the path actually exists or edit it to a folder of your own choosing. Check both "TEMP" and "TMP" and, if you alter them, make them use the same folder. Okay your way out and reboot. Now try the programs you are having difficulty with.

For about a week now, I haven't been able to open/run any programs on my Windows 7 laptop. Here is the timeline to the best of my memory:

- 6/11 (about): downloaded driver to fix scroll/touchpad that wasn't scrolling
- 6/20 (about): successfully replaced cpu fan
- "Bad Image - ...Loader.dll file missing" began appearing over and over
- All files/programs/shortcuts don't open. Just get same dll error
- 6/28: noticed "Windows 7 Build 7600, This copy of Windows is not genuine"
- Found 6-8 highly suspicious programs in Uninstall Programs (crossbrowser, cinestudio, speedsearch are the only ones I remember). We're most likely downloaded with touchpad driver. When I noticed the programs, I clicked Uninstall on all, but they were not uninstalled, but only removed from the list in Uninstall Programs.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

A:Repeating Error: "Bad Image.... Loaded.dll file contains an error"

(Also, I tried sfc /scannow. That found and fixed two problems. But the problem persists. I then tried a system restore. Only one previous restore date was shown as an option. When I tried to restore it, it was unsuccessful)

Hello I have a Asrock 775I65G Motherboard and it has a Bios version of P1.60 and i have downloaded the 3.30 bios updater from asrock.com(its the windows version)but when i try to run it it gives me an error saying Error: Rom File Size In Correct.I have tried all previous versions and none worked they either said Error: Rom File Size In Correct or Error: File ROM ID incorrect
what do i do?
Thanks for your help in advanced
(I know this is in the wrong section but i couldn't find a sutible section for this question

A:Asrock 775I65G Bios Update Problem Error: Rom File Size Incorrect

It is not a good idea to update a BIOS using a Windows updater. These work *most* of the time, but fail far more than the DOS versions do.

Do you have a floppy disk drive in that PC?

If you still want to use the Windows updater anyway, delete that ROM file and download it again. You could have had a bad download.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster. NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of hartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.Security CheckDownload Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.Run Combofix:You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal. You can download Combofix from one of these links.Link 1Link 2Link 3 1. Hi, Thanx to shuttles indescript site I have killed my AI61 motherboard, I thought I was getting an executable zip which was actually the flash program + rom and after opening BEEEEEP

Anyway I have a eeprom burner and this eeprom sst39sf020 is right in the list.

Can anyone email me the bios .bin file for this motherboard? (not the file from shuttles site but the old bios file ai61s017.bin so I can flash it using my eeprom burner)

Or at least tell me how to extract the .rom from the exe file shuttle sends

If I get the rom file I will be able to revive this nifty old 750!

PS it appears that shuttle quite sending *.bin bios updates a while ago but if anyone can find ai61s017.bin I would be gratefull

Thanx

Amazing the schools don`t teach anymore, they just say here, do it on your own.

I have an image that I downloaded from a google search and before I use it I want to be sure it isn't copyrighted. Any ideas if there is some software or something I could buy or, I have Paint Shop Pro, is there way to get that info?

BIOS problem occured when I upgraded graphicscard, see my other thread.
Computer/soundcard boot problems after upgrading graphicscard GTX 960

I started this thread because it is a bios problem.

I downloaded the driver 2.09 from manufacturers website (medion)
motherboard MS- 7728
when i try to flash it says
"ROM file does not match existing BIOS size"

someone knows how to solve this?

A:Flashing BIOS - ROM file does not match existing BIOS size

Kevin someone in the other thread asked what size PSU you have now I am not sure what you have hooked up but one way you can check what size PSU you need (for starters) because what you have looks to be a tad on the small size at 450W - eXtreme Power Supply Calculator - The only power supply calculator trusted by PSU manufacturers and computer enthusiasts

Just enter in as much as you can and the readout should give you roughly what size you need with some margin of error. Now if the result is close to the 450W PSU you have?? then under heavy load it might well be trying to draw more than what is available. Remember the stated output is the ideal and in reality some power is lost with the internal workings of the PSU circuitry/s.
Personally I use a PSU that has at least 25% more than I possibly need and just because it says for example 650W on the label doesn't mean that it is producing 650W continuously the device only puts out what is being asked of it. That is to say if your machine's components are idling at a draw of 200W then that is all a 650W PSU will put out - it is sort of working on a linear scale for want of a better way of putting it.

I'm trying to do an integrity check on a Ghost 2003 image of a w2k partition. The source partition is NTFS and it's stored on a second HDD which is also NTFS. It's a 1.6GB image.

It's extremely slow. The message I get in the lower left corner of ghost says "Checking remaining NTFS MFT files". It can't get past these files and eventually times out.

I've tried setting up the image check from windows and alternately doing a "Run ghost interactively".

The initial imaging process takes about 5 minutes on 3.6GB of files.

Any ideas are appreciated.

A:Ghost image check NTFS

FWIW, I usually write my GHOST images to a FAT32 volume because I've had issues in the past with GHOST 2003 writing and restoring from an NTFS volume. I think you may want to consider that option.

For this problem, you could copy it to a FAT32 volume to do the check.

I have a new hard drive and I want to use my windows image backup that I created previously. It was a whole system backup. When I select the restore my computer using a system image that I created earlier, it did not do anything, but going around and around in circle. Could it be the image backup itself? If not, why didn't it perform what it is supposed to do? BTW, it is windows 7 home edition, 64 bits.

A:How do I check Windows 7 Image Backup

I assume a "whole system backup" was using the CREATE SYSTEM IMAGE function via the Backup and restore GUI panel??

Click on Start ORB, search on "cmd", when it comes up, right-click and "run as administrator".

Issue this command:

wbadmin get versions

It will list information each "known to Windows" System Image that you took.

Did you move or rename your WindowImageBackup folder?

See this thread for examples of wbadmin get versions output:

Anytime I drag a file(s) in a folder window, a translucent, oversized icon follows the mouse pointer, partially obscuring up to 4 nearby items.

Can this effect be disabled? I'm sure somebody at MS thought it was slick idea, but it just gives me a headache. I haven't found a setting that controls it -- maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot. (Am guessing, while this isn't an "animation" per se, it's in the same general category.)

Thanks a ton for any clues.

Update: fixed!

I appreciate that y'all help folks for free on here, but nonetheless got a little bit impatient looking at a possible week's waiting time, messed around a bit and what I did ended up fixing it. Hopefully sharing this info here may help others with this same issue.

After running multiple antivirus, anti-malware, and anti-spyware scans that still didn't fix it, what ended up working was running sfc\ scannow to scan and repair system files and deleting the dll file mentioned in the error message (and that folks here said looked like a malware / spyware generated dll rather than an authentic file), mswnlwkl.dll. I no longer get the error and now Firefox works just fine again.

My best guess was that it wasn't a malware that was generating the error messages, but rather one of the spyware or antivirus programs I used deleted a virus that had changed some information somewhere in the registry or a DLL file (or whatever), and that was calling on this rogue DLL file that Windows couldn't recognize. Basically a virus was removed but left behind traces that screwed with some of the system files.

Hi,

Sorry for delayed response. Forums have been really busy. If you still need help with this do following, please.
Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds file to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

After what I experienced yesterday I feel compelled to warn everybody here who uses Acronis True Image I know that there has already been a discussion about all the features Acronis has cut out with the release of edition But so far True images Check Image 2015? asap! your Using I did not pay attention since I used True Image for it's main purpose which is to backup my system and all the important data But yesterday I wanted to restore a certain file out of a particular image I started True Image and wanted to restore the file in question but lo and behold all the differential images where defective the only one that could be accessed was the initial full backup which dated several months back Shocked by that Using True Image 2015? Check your images asap! outcome I immediately started to check all my images I frequently back up drives one being the system drive all images are differential The result of that check was a veritable disaster none of my differential images were restorable for two images out of four even the initial full backup was defective Really I was shocked I tend to go around telling everybody to back up their data telling them that not backed up data virtually does not exist And there I was realizing that since I had started using Acronis True Image my data had actually been unprotected for almost an entire month After that discovery I immediately looked for another backup solution testing Paragon Backup amp Recovery right now looks good uninstalled True Image and demanded a refund still within days refund period But I am still somewhat clueless I let True Image verify all my backups after their creation and every singe time True Image told me that the image had successfully been veryfied and thus would be restorable This could not have been further from reality since when I checked only images out of maybe backup processes where actually usable So here is my advice for everybody out there using Acronis True Image Check your backups immediately Try restoring the images or at least try to open them and restore a single file Don't rely on True Images verifying function Your data might be unprotected without your knowledge

So been trying to figure this out for the last week.Basically my Notebook when through a HP BIOS update about 2 weeks ago and never turned back on after it.After resetting the notebook about 4 hours later, it kept coming up with fault 0xc000098 which was easy enough to search; tried to update the bios manually then it started coming up with 0xc000034.So downloaded the media creation tool from Microsoft to try and reboot my operating system and now it comes up with "selected boot image did not authenticate press enter to continue"Naturally I've checked the forum for help, I've tried reinstalling the BIOS which is currently F.00, tried disabling the secure boot, which again doesn't work. Anyone else have any more ideas??

A:No boot image / BIOS

Hello, You tried reinstalling the BIOS. Have you tried to restore the BIOS using the method found at this HP Support Document? Wait, you were able to enter the BIOS to disable Secure Boot? Then that sounds like the new BIOS is okay. Maybe check BIOS HDD settings. Try using AHCI or RAID settings. TG

A:Freezing after Bios check.

There is no way that not having a monitor driver could cause all of this mayhem.

Is this a new computer, you mentioned it worked OK in the shop, so have you just brought it home? From all of the symptoms that you describe I would suspect that something has worked its way loose internally during transportation. Especially if it reboots OK when its hot. Heat expansion may make the part (whatever it is) get a better connection when its hot, which would explain why it doesn't boot smoothly when cold.

If its new and under warranty you should take it back and get them to check it over for you. Alternatively, if you feel confident to open the case, and it won't invalidate your warranty, you could remove, clean the contacts and reseat the memory modules, graphics card etc, and check that all cables and power leads have a good contact to their sockets etc.

Hello,

My HD recently suffered some bad sectors. Using SpinRite I was able to recover and move most of the data to other areas of the HD. Since then, when starting the computer or launching almost any program I am presented with a dialog box, the name of the app in the upper left corner followed by "The application or dll XXX is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." as shown in the attached image. Clicking on 'OK' closes the error dialog box and the app opens without problem. When starting the computer there are many dialog boxes that are displayed. I believe that with the corrupted sectors something happened to one or more dlls. Guidance? Thank you.

A:The application or dll XXX is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I would try uninstalling/reinstalling Panda software...and I would run chkdsk /r command on the system partition (before uninstalling Panda product).

When I turn on the computer instead of the normal boot, it goes to "Bios Image Loading ..", it goes black, reboots, and does the same thing over again.
I'm not sure how to address this issue, as I have never seen it before.
What is it, and is there anyway I can resolve this without reformatting?
(I have important documents on the drive (SATA) that I wish to salvage, and do have a spare computer but the motherboard supports IDE only.)
Any ideas?

The OS is XP Pro, 2ghz, 2gb, 100+gb. Hope that helps.

I recently updated my U41-70 BIOS version from BDCN63WW to BDCN71WW. This update came with a new splash image for the BIOS. The splash image is horrible and comes with a colorful rectangle background. My initial boot image was "lenovo" written in white font. Simple and Sweet. I then immediately downgraded by BIOS from BDCN71WW to 63 but alas, the damage had been done. Even rolling back wont bring back the lenovo splash screen. How can I get it back! Please suggest.

A:U41-70 - RETURN TO OLD BIOS SPLASH IMAGE

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Unfortunately I have no solution for your splash screen image problem other than to say each time you flash the BIOS there is a slight element of risk involved.  Even under the most perfect conditions a BIOS flash can fail and turn your working computer into an expensive paper weight. Personally, flashing the BIOS to change a splash screen that appears for just a few seconds isn't worth the risk in my opinion.

First post here.

I had an HP 6310y Desktop (1 TB hdd) that died as well as the mobo. Luckily, I created a system image onlu 3 days prior to the crash. I have very important data on the hdd (business, wedding photos, etc). Im about to order a new PC but in the meantime, Im trying to restore the image in order to extrapolate that important data so I can burn to CD

1) I have a Samsung RV520 (640gb). I tried to restore my image over the samsung in order to do this. However, it prompted me "The system image restore failed. Windows cannot restore a system a system image to a computer that has different firmware.*The system image was created on a computer using BIOS and the computer is using EFI."

How can I solve this?

A:Restoring Win7_64 image (across different BIOS)

Hello Jmoreau, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You're not going to be able to do a system image recovery to restore the image. However, after you do a clean install of Windows 7, you will be able to use the tutorial below to be able to extract and restore any files and data you wanted from the system image.

System Image - Extract Files Using Disk Management

Hope this helps,

If checking the bios for the hdd's means hitting F2(setup) then yes i have checked the bios and it does detect the hdd's. For primary hard disk device 0 it says Unknown Device, same for primary device 1.

Hi forum,

I'm not often to check my BIOS's version and its info.  Do you know where in Windows I can see the BOIS info ?

I know one way is to power on and then press some function key, then jump into a DOS UI, which is the BIOS UI, right ?

Thanks guys.

A:How to check BIOS version in Windows ?

Correct cuhkwan one way is booting to your BIOS setup which is outside Windows but when in Windows, see http://www.wikihow.com/Check-BIOS-Versio
Some free 3rd party softwares you can use also is SIW home edition http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.php or Speccy http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

Hi

I am wanting to send out either a tool or a script that will check all the desktops and laptops in my clients organization for a BIOS Supervisor password. They are all Lenovo Thinkcentres or Thinkpads running XP Pro. I think this is possible as i have IBM Standard Asset Manager installed on my Thinkpad and it scans for a Power On password and a Hard Drive password. I'm having trouble finding anything on this as every search i have done brings back info on cracking the passwords! There isn't even that much info about IBM Standard Asset Manager. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Keep getting checksum errors everytime I try to flash my bios on an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe.

It isn't that old (2004) so I don't think the batttery is dead. In fact the whole PC was bought and built last May. So far I have tried 5 disks each formatted 3Xtimes fully to weed out any random errors and I have tried 4 different bios versions. 1011 - 1014.

is there anyway to raw write to the C drive so It can be seen on a dos boot. Previous bios versions and the newest award flash utility are saved on my drive and remain there when I reboot. I just can't find them when booted in windows.

now each time I saved the bios utility there as well. so why isn't the damn bios utility never corupt???

A:Bios Flash: Check Sum Errors???

Hey, im havin similar probs and its soo damn annoying! Where you flashing from? WIndows or Alt+F2 at POST. Whats your motherboard rev number? The bios's u have used, are they from? the Asus UK site?

If you have a backup of old I suggest you find a way to get it off the hdd and onto a floppy disk! Your so lucky to have that.... I don't, and im kinda regretting it!

oh by the way how come you are flashing your bios anyway?

Hi.

Yesterday my PC was working perfect. Zero problems. I shut it off for the night, then turn it on this morning. The BIOS image appears, and then it goes to a black screen. I can't do *anything*. I've tried putting in the Windows disc to try repairing, but it won't let me boot to the disc. There's never any option to. I've tried spamming F8 for safe mode and Delete/F2 to enter the BIOS, but nothing changes. It goes straight to the black screen.
Any help in resolving this issue would be much appreciated.

I recently updated the bios on my EVGA 790i Ultra SLI board to the latest version. After restarting the computer, I cannot get windows to start "Bootmgr image is corrupt" or "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum."

I put in a the windows 7 64 bit disk to try and boot from it, and i get to the setup menu. I try to choose Launch Startup Repair (recommended) but the system keeps going back to the WIndows Error Recovery, and will not get into any setup mode. I try to launch normally but it keeps restarting itself.

I have 2 striped raids, one has the windows drive, and one with other various files.

I have an option in my raid setup to clear mbr, but i dont want to lose my data, is that going to mess up everything even more?

A:BOOTMGR image is corrupt. after updating bios

Next step, backup everything on my raid 5 array.

I built my own computer, used a USB to install windows 7 to it and everything, yet it still functions somewhat poorly. I have seen my fair share of driver update tools (most of them were either viruses or completely untrustworthy, as they asked for your credit card info, naturally). I need someone to point me towards a good tool I can use to update my BIOS, if there is such a thing. Thank you for your time.

A:Need a trustworthy application to check for BIOS updates.

You don't need anything but your browser. Just go to the motherboard manufacturer site and look for the latest drivers/BIOS versions. Any software other than the official ones is inherently unreliable.

BTW, unless you know for a fact that the BIOS is in fact a root cause of problems, it's better to leave it alone. Updating "just because it's the latest" is a sure way to problems.

Hello all,I have HP Envy k025-dx notebook...i am an advance user who runs arch linux as my main OS and windows just for backup purposes.Today i updated my bios from f19 to f20 provided on HP support site. When i updated bios it ran fine and boot back into windows as expected... but when i wen to bios settings made little adjustments like enabling virtualization and disabling fn key, and rebooted i got "selected boot image did not authenticate" infact went to F9 boot menu, it dint showed my efi entries as it used to show before bios update. Ok now what i did to boot, disabled secureboot and enabled legacy, rebooted pressed F9 and gone through "Boot from EFI file" then navigated to my arch linux grubefi.efi file and booted into Arch linux fine.. Now i want to why the bios update broke my boot setup?
