I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have several Asus Eee netbooks that I'm getting set up to use at my school. I had some parent volunteers helping me get them ready to deploy, and one of the netbooks was plugged in to initially power it up, but then hard-shut-down before Windows could run through its initial setup.

Now when I boot up the netbook, and it attempts to go through the initial windows setup "Setup is starting services", and then throws an error message:
The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.I restart, and the cycle continues. This happens whether I try to boot normally or in safe mode.

I've got no CD-drive attached to it, so I'm not sure what I can do to break this error cycle. Any suggestions/tools/ideas?

Thx,
Jeff

A:Win7 Starter getting error on initial setup; locked in setup loop

Not sure how you deployed them, but if Startup Repair doesn't help when run from System Recovery Options then I would redeploy the image or run Factory Recovery from its partition after backing up the disks.

If you don't have one and they are same hardware, simply backup one's image using Win7 backup imaging or free Macrium - Image your system then boot System Recovery options to Recover Using an Image from its external storage location which you have connected.

If they are not same exact hardware or Image hangs at startup, SysPrep the original before deploying to remove all drivers, activation, SID and HID's.

Ive read the Instructions on how to setup XP to dual-boot with Vista...
However, im concerned (and someone mentioned it happened to them in the thread)
that when XP SETUP is finished with the TX part of setup and reboots PC to go into the
rest of setup (GUI XP SETUP)) it wont continue....?
is this right>? ive read elsewhere that if the partitions for XP are created in Vista that it wont boot into the rest of setup....

I could make the partition during XP setup if this will help?

thanks

A:Vista/XP Dual Boot - Will XP setup continue into GUI setup after reboot of 1st part.?

When I did my dual boot [using win2k / vista] I used an existing partition that was created by vista. No problem at all. It is a little more difficult than say installing win2k after xp however as long as you follow the instructions there are no problems.

As always make an image of your system before you start. This way if something does go wrong, it is a simple matter to restore the image and be back where you started from.

I'm trying to install windows xp, after formatting, it goes thru the process of copying the xp files and automatically reboots. Now after rebooting, instead of this installation to continue, it just goes back to the same setup process again i.e right from the beginning again of wanting to format and repeating the same process again. It does not continue with the installation as it normally does. Xp disk is good. no problem with it.
One thing strange I noted is when booting with the XP disk in, it automatically goes thru with the XP setup without asking 'Click any key to boot from CD-Rom'
Any ideas to solve this? Thank you all in advance

Have you tried launching it in "Safe Mode"? That would be the first thing I would try, and see if it will load past that screen. If it does, then there is probably something installed on the device that is causing the problem and you will need to see about uninstalling it.

If it doesn't move past, and still gets stuck, you may have a hardware problem.

I have just finished moving my OS from a 3TB hard drive to an SSD. I now have 2 matching drives that I would like to set up as a RAID array. A couple of questions:

1. Do I need to backup the data that will be on the RAID before setting it up and then move it back once it has been setup?

2. Do I format them before I go into the RAID setup utility or does that utility do it for me?

3. Will the RAID just appear as a single drive letter on my system?

4. Evidently I have the choice between RAID0 (for performance) and RAID1 (for redundancy). I hhave an extensive back up scheme in place so is there any reason not to use RAID0?

I know that I enable the RAID in the BIOS and then there is a place in the boot sequence to get into the RAID setup.

A:RAID Setup - Alienware - A few setup questions?

What are you hoping to get out of a RAID0 setup? If you have User data on the hard drive, such as movies, music, documents, pics, etc....there is no need for RAID0. Hard drives are more than fast enough for that kind of data.

I recently purchased a refurbished HP 6005 with windows 7 Professional. On the initial boot up I got to the windows setup screen asking for the country/language. It was at this point the power was disrupted and restarted the computer. Every time I tried to run windows the computer would restart. I also tried in safe mode which did not work. I then went into system restore mode to try that but am not able to complete because I get the restore error message 'Error 1'. Unfortunately I only have the product key and not the actual disc since i bought refurbished. Any suggestions on how to complete the setup so I can use my computer?

I am trying to install Windows XP Pro onto my machine as a dual boot operating system, it will enter the txt portion of the setup but not gui mode after the restart. I've tried to make a new partition on my hard drive, reset my bios, change boot order, everything I can think of to no avail. I've searched the forums and couldn't find any real help.

Any suggestions?

A:Win XP Setup will not enter GUI mode setup

Just got off work, thought I'd include more information. My current main OS is Windows 7, when I hit Enter to go into GUI setup mode, the screen goes to black, no cursor, no blinking underscore, just blank. I remove the cd and when I try to boot into the XP OS I get the hal.dll error or the missing/corrupt file error. So I load into Windows 7 to check the partition out and see that there is no ntldr, no ntdetect, and no boot.ini (assuming this is all installed in the gui portion of the setup)

Still baffled with this.

I was having problems with my Maple Story, so I un-installed and re-downloaded the program. However, when I tried to open the setup wizard, it gave me the error:

Error reading setup initialization file

I looked online for troubleshooting solutions, and I have so far found two options:

-Re-download because the error could be the result of a failed download that wasn't identified when the file was downloaded.

-Find and delete old files that could be stopping the file from being reaad properly.

I need help with the second solution, as in how I search for those files. Also, any other solutions for this problem would be much appreciated.

Hi guys, wonder if anyone could shed some light on my issue please?
I am trying to reinstall XP SP2 on an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop, as it would not boot up correctly and hang. I tried initially to repair the installation from the Disk, but setup would load all the drivers and when it gets to the "Setup is starting windows" everything stops and just hangs.
I have a copy of unbuntu and i could boot to that off the live CD, and could browse the HDD contents. I then used the partition manager thing in unbuntu and made the disk one partition (thinking the partitions were screwed and opted to try to start from scratch!) This however has not cured the problem, and now im out of ideas... other than trying to install unbuntu only to prove the HDD isnt knackered!

Any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks in advance

I've inserted the setup CD (in an external CD-Rom drive, since my laptop doesn't have its own drive). But for some reason, setup won't start, and I keep coming back to the above error message. How do I start setup?

I'm running XP Home.

A:How does this setup look?

All looks pretty good. Couple of questions/comments:

I notice you are buying 3rd party cooling. Are you planning on overclocking? If so, you may want to consider different ram (PC6400).

I have never heard of IN WIN powersupplies, and that is scary. I'd suggest getting a PSU from a namebrand company like Antec, Enermax or FSB. Have a look at this thread here:

Love to help but we have no idea what was manipulated during the vlite process so it is next to impossible to help. I would suggest a full copy form MS. Basically thats all we are able to support.

I need to connect five computers to an NAS which will be used as shared file storage, and as hard drive backup space (i'm not sure the backup space is such as good idea because that would take up tons of room and we can use DVDs for that, would that be better?)

One computer is roughly 30 feet away, and we're looking to get all new computers that are running windows 7 x64, one will be running windows 7 x32. We're installing an new linksys advanced N router so should I get a wireless NAS so we all can access it, or will connecting a standard NAS to the router work?

I've never used an NAS before, I'm sure you all can tell, finally does it behave like a router, where you access the interface through the computer that's hardwired to it?

Thanks for your help everyone. I really appreciate it.

A:NAS setup help!

If at all possible you want to connect the NAS by ethernet; only use wireless if there is no way to run a cable between the router and NAS.

I don't know you or the other users, but my opinion is that only the most disciplined people keep up to date backups on DVDs or similar. Less disciplined people are more likely to backup to a "permanently" attached NAS, and there is even more likelihood of regular backups if they are scheduled.

when i try to uninstall a program i get the [i cant not find the exe file .
so how do i go to fix that .

A:Setup.exe

That means the original uninstall file is either corrupted or has been removed from the computer. It's probably been removed already and the title of the program still remains in the "Uninstall a Program" window. I would install CCleaner and do a registry scan and fix the checked issues and see if it remains... (Which would effectively clear out registry files that remain of uninstalled programs - hopefully allowing you to see the program no longer listed in the programs list)

Programs and Features - Remove Uninstall Entry

Out of curiosity what is the name of the program?

A:setup

Hi infante, welcome to TSG.

So what you are saying is that you set a password to enter the bios setup and you forgot it?

If so, you'll need to remove the battery for a couple of minutes (which will reset everything to defaults) and you should be able to access it normally again.

A subscription. Then, in your network settings, put in the data provided by the server and choose the "connect to office" or similar option. It connects just like a dial-up connection over your current internet connection.

you know when you download some thing
like say a patch for a game it will be .exe
well with some of them you can unpack it with winrar but some you cant
is there any program that will unpack them becasue i need to do some thing with a setup exe

A:setup exe

It depends entirely on how the setup.exe file was created. Some, like you said, can be opened by Winrar. This is because the setup.exe file is actually a self-extracting archive which extracts the real setup.exe and then runs it. Most setup.exe files, however, either don't do this or they use a proprietary format, or they may use the WISE installer framework included with Windows (or another framework altogether.)

Thus, there is no single "universal" unpacker for setup.exe files as there is no "universal" format for creating them.

Have tried changing settings also.Do i need another audio card?

A:How do i get 5.1 on my setup!!

Heyy,
Welcome to the forum!

You should be able to plug the optical cable into both the computer and the amp, open your audio control panel and change it to optical out and it should work.

If you want you could purchase a few cables like this here and run them from the different outputs from your computer to the inputs on the amp.

What is the audio control panel, for example, mine is Realtek HD audio manager.

Hope this helps you,
Daniel =)

but there are better choices if you can add $50-75 bucks past the 129.

Q: Setup

I have Windows 7 on my Emachine desktop. I had trouble with the whole system. So I delete everything to begin new applications and so forth. I changed my log into Windows and do not remember what it is. To reset my password it tell me that I need a reset Cd,
which I don't have. How can I log on to the system?

Also My husband who is MD hileman has a Emachine laptop and of course it had Window 7 at the beginning.  We later
downloaded the Windows 10. Now the app such as the Store, Watch 32HD, and the Weather app are not opening up.  They say that there is no internet. Which is weird because my husband can get onto Facebook and his Email.  What can the problem be?
Thank you for help us out on these problems

Um, It isnt the best.
You have minimum memory, an average GFX card, and I am not even sure your cpu can run 64bit. For light gaming this might work.

If you can upgrade memory and gfx card it will help.

A:new pc setup

Hi and welcome to SevenForums!
When you rip your CDs, you must setup your ripping program to store tracks on the raid disk.
When you install programs, you have to make custom installation and select raid disk as target.

Hope this helps

I have now tried to set up a VPN connection between my home LAN and any remote networks. My purpose is to use Samba to access workgroup shares is my home LAN from other remote places.

Connection between remote client and my OpenVPN server is working perfectly fine. Although I cannot ping (at least not the normal way, but how do I differenciate between my current LAN and remote LAN?) neither can I access any Workgroup shares. I can see the Workgroup anyhow.

My network looks like this:
Does anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Is my largest fear (that my server have to work as a gateway, ie. all computers must be connected to the server; instead of the router) true?

What IP pool have you assigned to the remote client coming in to your network? This should have been set up as part of the OpenVPN configuration.

WAN setup
We have our HQ at one location with 20 users (XP & Vista) on a SBS2008 domain.

We have just taken over a satellite office of 13 users (xp & vista) working off a XP Fileserver (workgroup) and wish to intergrate these users into our existing domain.

So i was wondering what methods others were using/recommend before we go about implementing a WAN network.

for example: As we have an Untangle server at HQ should we look at installing another untangle server at the 2nd location and using site to site vpn?
Do we need to change this workgroup over to our domain with the same subnet but different ip range?

Many thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I have an Asus p4c800-dlx mobo and a P4 2.8cghz hyperthreading CPU.

I want to get a RAM setup that best utilizes my CPU and will give me the best bang for my buck with the whole dual channel etc that my mobo can handle.

I basically came to the descision that I can buy 2 gigs (4x512) of the slower ram, or I can go all out and buy some of that really high end OCZ or Corasair dual channel kit stuff. I've realized that 1 gig of the high end stuff is around the same price of the 2 gigs of lower end normal ram. I was just wondering which setup will get me the most performance? Thanks.

A:What do you think is the best RAM setup?

I say, go with one gig of the high performance for now. Trust me, even with *only* 1 GB of it, you'll still be screaming. Try out the one gig for awhile, if somehow its too slow for you, save up and buy another high quality gig of it. I think this would be your most valued course of action.

How are the drivers jumpered?
If the old drive is jumpered as slave, and the new one as master you should have no problem.
No way to tell her the files are still there, but It appears your Windows on the old drive didn't like the change...
Hard drives are cheap nowadays... You can buy a 250 to 320 GB hard drive on several online sites for under $78... or an 80 GB for $41. 500 G B is $120 which should be enough even for your sister.

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

Processor
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice

Graphics Card
eVGA Geforce 7600GT 256MB PCI-Express

Power supply
XCLIO ATX 450W

Memory
CORSAIR 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR SDRAM DDR 400

Case
ASPIRE X-Dreamer

Well what do you think? I know its not going to be the ULTRA GAME SYSTEM, but i think it will be decent. I'm kinda on a budget

A:What about this setup??

For a budget system, I think your setup above will treat you very well, and once you feel it is too slow for you, you can always upgrade more in the future. Some great choices there!

I do question that power supply though. How many amps does it have on the 12v rail(s)? How much does it cost?

Setup.exe is a file title used by various programs...to initiate installation in Windows. On older programs that have no setup.exe file, you will probably see an install.exe file.

Then: A BSOD. I cannot remember what type.
This also happens with the Pro disc.

A:XP Setup on x64

Are you booting from the XP install CD?

What is the exact error message? Snap a pic if necessary to attach here.

Did you use Disk Management to shrink existing partitions to create a New partition to format using the XP CD?

It is likely that the SATA controllers for your Acer are not in the XP CD and need to be added at the F6 prompt during driver loading phase. They may need to be slipstreamed using Nlite if you have no floppy drive.

Please complete your System Specs as there isn't even an Acer model number there.

I am attempting to install Win 7 64-bit on a system with XP Pro 32-bit installed. I created a new primary partition for Win7 and started the install. After selecting the partition, the setup process reports that it cannot install on that partition and that I should see the setup log file for more information.

Where is this file? It's not on my target partition (drive L, nor do I see it in the root of the C:\ partition. Does it exist somewhere, or how do I figure out what the problem is?

Is it permitted to install 64-bit Win 7 as a dual boot to Win XP Pro 32-bit?

Thanks.
