Acer aspire 5750z-4885 shuts off after 4 to 7 seconds

Q: Acer aspire 5750z-4885 shuts off after 4 to 7 seconds

Hello all.
My sister in laws Acer aspire 5750z-4885 was recently sat on and the screen is cracked. I was going to replace it for her but before I order a new screen I was wondering if it is even just the screen and not something else that I cannot repair. The laptop since getting the screen cracked will shut off after powering up in about 4-7 seconds or so I haven't used a stop watch lol.
I am wondering if perhaps there is a short or some other dmg caused by the screen being cracked that will not be remedied by replacing it. I have limited experience with cracked lappy screens. Thank you all so much for any and all replies I love this board and it has helped me many times in the past.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yes, the cracked LCD screen can be the cause of the shutdown. Replacing the LCD panel is not that difficult for someone experienced, but for you it might be too much. You have to disassemble the top cover without breaking the plastic. The video cable might not be included with the new panel, so you would have to use the old cable. The cable connection to the panel is very delicate...

Hi everyone

My laptop Acer aspire 5750 shuts down after few seconds at power on. I have checked the ram, hd, battery, power pack on a similar brand laptop and are all working good.

I removed the fan and heat sinks, cleaned them plus the inside cover. After all this I had every thing back together powered on machine and found fault still persists.

At the moment right now I think I have a faulty mother board caused by a short.

I need assistance if anyone can help me get around fixing this fault.

Thank you

A:Acer Aspire 5750 Shuts down after few seconds of powering up.

If you think it's caused by a short, you'd have to remove the board from the shell, lay it on cardboard, and try and power it up that way.

If everything is secured in place, I'd lean towards motherboard failure as well.

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 5750z 64bit running Windows 8.When I boot the Laptop up, I get the typical acer boot screen but then goes to a black screen with these words on it: PXE-E61: Media Test Failure check cablePXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM. I have tried going into the BIOS and changing boot order to HD first. Aswell as changing the Hard Drive which has a copy of Windows 8 on it. I have made sure that the hard drive is connected properly. The new hard drive I put in works perfectly in my other Acer. On boot up, I can hear that everything is working the HD is spinning I just don't get what the problem is. Can somebody help me please?Thank you.

if you are running windows 8 under UEFI BIOS, you need to set windows boot manager as first device; swapping windows 8 HDD from another machine is not a good choice, since it depends how it was installed on that machine 8Legacy or UEFI) that "error" is the laptop trying to boot from LAN since other bootable devices are missing. are the 2HDDs recognised on the 5750z BIOS maing page? if not, can be a loose sata cable or some mainboard issue.

big_m:
Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

I started to do a full system recovery on my son's Acer Aspire 5750z, Click to expand...

Why?

I am NOT, sadly an expert with the Acer recovery program.

I don't know if stopping & restarting will damage your computer.

Which service pack of W7 HP 64 bit?

Logically, what choices have you; wait for X # of hours, or shut it down?

If you shut it down, boot to the W7 Recovery Environment & try a repair. It might find the files necessary to believe that W7 is currently installed.

Run Diags from Acer, that are probably built into the computer.

Which Acer Aspire 5750z? There seem to be multiple offerings.

There's a user guide here.

Sounds bad.

Are you able to run Memtest for any length of period? Search for YUMI Multiboot. Download that, install it to a spare USB stick. Download memtest from yumi program. Boot off of stick and run memtest.

If not get a new motherboard/cpu off ebay.

Hi,

my acer laptop 7520 shuts itself down after booting for few seconds.
It has Vista but dont think its a software / virus issue. As I got into BIOS / booting menu, it did not stay there. it shuts itself down.

I removed CD rom from laptop but had same result. It has two 1GB rams, I removed them one at a time but had same result. I then removed Harddisk and tried to make it boot from USB, but had same result. It was shutting down after 10 - 30 seconds. I see the Fan running when ever I start the laptop. Fan is very clean. no dust, dont think its a heating problem then.

please can some one advise what could be issue.
thanks.

I ran it on full battery but had same result. Then I removed battery and connected the power cable into laptop, same result. it shuts down after few seconds.

Sounds as though its over heating. You might try taking a can of air and blowing the vents out. If this has not helped. You may need to take it to a repair shop. and have the thermal pads replaced.

A:acer 5515 notebook shuts down within 3 seconds of startup win vista

What happened prior to the problem? There are many possibilities as to why it would exhibit those behavior. The first thing to check if the CMOS battery is dead or needs replacement. You would have to open up the laptop and read that manual and remove certain parts such as RAM, HD, network card or reseat the CPU and check if there are burn mark on the mobo itself.

My personal laptop has shut down several times after the power button was pressed. In some cases it powers and and boots up to the windows screen or sometimes halfway to the windows screen and shuts down.

I checked with a similar model laptop and confirmed ram, hd, battery, power pack are all working good.

I stripped laptop and cleaned cooling fan, inside cover and heat sink. I even removed the dvd drive and cpu.

After putting back every thing and retested my the fault still persists.

I am suspecting I may have a faulty mb may be caused by a short somewhere.

I really need assistance here to work around this fault to get the machine working properly.

Hi, I'd like to upgrade my Aspire 5750z. I'd like to take my processor from an Intel Pentinium dual core running @ 2.00GHz to an Intel i-series quad-core processor (I need a quad for running virtual machines). For the RAM, I'd like to go from two 2gb 2rx8 pc3-10600s-9-10-f2.1333 (together = 4gb) to the maximum suported by my hardware after the processor upgrade (something like 8-16gb). Also, I currently have a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BPVT 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" HDD with Windows 10 on it, and I'd like to either raplace with SSD or add SSD for seccond hard drive via the dvd drive with an adapter. Basically, I know where I need to go (as far as how much I need of something), but I'm not sure what I need to be compatible with my existing hardware. Any advice would be great!

Hey there Alex  I'd contact Acer's support to check if the laptop supports 4-core CPUs at all and, if yes, which of them are compatible with your laptop. I'd also ask for the memory limit and what would be the best choice for the best performance. Regarding the storage, it would really depend on what you are doing. A pure SSD would give you great improvements over the responsiveness of the whole system, decrease all loading times of the applications installed on it and give you faster access and transfer times. If you decide to go for a SSD I would recommend to consider two things:- to have it as your primary drive that would hold the OS and the most demanding applications and use the HDD (if you are going for a dual-drive setup) as a secondary massive storage. You can either do a fresh install of the OS (I would recommend that) or clone your HDD onto the SSD (I wouldn't recommend that as it can be quite risky for your data). - to check the interface of the optical drive's as most of the times a SATAI port is used and if you connect a SSD there it would be seriously limited to 150MB/s. Even if it's a SATAII it would be limited to 300MB/s rather than running at its full potential (if your laptop has SATAIII ports which have the limit of 600MB/s). Post back with some more info on what you are using the laptop for (besides the VMs).  Captain_WD.

The hard drive starts up when I turn it on and the hdd light is on, but just before the black screen the light flickers and turns off and the hdd stops spinning. I have no idea what to do and this is my only computer with important stuff on it. If somebody has any idea, that would be great! Thanks

Hey guy! So the title basically says my problem.

I have switched power plans, tweaked the settings, looked it up, and other stuff but I can't seem to figure out the problem. This laptop is about a year old and I have never changed any settings (except from different power plans) and it just started doing this recently. The laptop is not physically damaged in any way and neither are the inner workings (programs, code, and such). I would really love to know why this is happening because it shuts down the laptop completely and I need to restart it every time. It is really getting on my nerves because I have to open and close my laptop all the time to tote it around the school campus. If anyone has a fix or suggestions they would be well appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey everyone I've been having this quite annoying problem for a few weeks now more like a set of problems actually Basically over the last few months the laptop's become steadily rubbisher it's been getting slower and the CPU doesn't seem to be able to take as much as it once could E g just being on webcam on gchat will just slow the entire laptop down to the extent that the video becomes super-lagged It won't run many processes simultaneously any more and it's pretty annoying I'm running a dual core AMD Turion RM- processor GHz with gig DDR RAM and Acer Boot 5535 Down [SOLVED] on Aspire Shuts an ATI Radeon [SOLVED] Acer Aspire 5535 Shuts Down on Boot HD Gfx card So the major problem here is that when I turn off the laptop even if it's just to restart after installation of something it just won't turn back on It turns off fine seems to be no problem with that but when it boots up again it will just turn off when it gets to the Starting Windows screen I'm running Windows btw When I leave it off for a good fifteen odd minutes then and then only can I restart the laptop and it seems to just about get to windows by the skin of it's teeth I don't feel any cool or hot air coming out of the vents at the bottom which I think means that my fan's probably clogged up and although I sit the laptop on a usb cooling fan it doesn't seem to be enough- would it be worth cleaning the fan out with compressed air or something could that be the solution to my boot problem Running SpeedFan without knowing anything [SOLVED] Acer Aspire 5535 Shuts Down on Boot about advanced configuration reveals that my internal fan doesn't rotate but as I said that may be a question of misconfiguration S Another thing I've noticed is that when I right click My Computer and go to properties under Installed RAM and Processor it just says Not Available which seems like a really weird thing to happen S What else it randomly turns off when I run a game Recently when turning on Call of Duty or Crysis it just shuts down with no warning when I get to the menu And then there's the problem of having to wait another mins or so before I can restart There've been no hardware changes I've tried system restore but am not sure if that's a safe bet any more because of it's high frequency restart problem S Was thinking of just reinstalling windows and cleaning the hard drives but I'm still not convinced it's run smoothly again Having had opened up the laptop during summer the heatsink had gone black rather than copper coloured and I read somewhere that this is not a bad thing as it's just been coated for insulation S Though it looks more burnt than anything else to my untrained eye Have run loads of virus scans and I've cleaned the registry and stuff so I don't think it's got anything to do with software The problem was first noticed when I tried to install an external bluetooth dongle without luck actually but I gave up on that and uninstalled all of what had been installed in the process Also I tried to install Office k on it but it just refuses to it encountering errors on setup and stalling the process I think I would have been able to install it fine usually I hope there's something that can be done to clear this all up The laptop's not in the worst state it'll still run OKish in day to day use but watching movies being on webcam even listening to music can make it angry which seems pretty absurd to me considering the system spec is pretty decent- it should be able to handle windows media player with google chrome surely Thanks so much in anticipation Nitish

A:[SOLVED] Acer Aspire 5535 Shuts Down on Boot

Hello Nitish and welcome to TSF,

Are you still in warranty? If so, call Acer to set up RMA.

First order of business... Clean out that fan. You should feel some air movement from the rear exhaust vent. That would explain the app crash for games, and possibly the restart issue as well.

If your computer is out of warranty I would suggest opening it up and manually cleaning it out. If it is completely clogged, canned air won't do anything.

I am having trouble finding documentation for your computer.

Second order of business...
Download and run the hard drive manufacturers diagnostic from the link in my signature. If there is an option, make sure you download the DOS utility and burn it to disc.

When you pull apart your laptop, check the label on the HDD for the manufacturer.

I followed the procedure on how to post this issue on this forum. I uploaded the ZIP file to this forum. If someone can find a solution for this problem, I'd be very thankful.

Kind Regards
Glenn P.

A:My Acer Aspire 5750G Shuts Down After a Few Hours Due to Blue Screen

Welcome
Make a system restore point in the event that you want to restore the changes that you will make.
The cause of your problem is a driver that I am not familiar with it is
Description:Deterministic Network Enhancer for NDIS 5.1 Company:Deterministic Networks, Inc.
I have found this on the Driver
http://www.citrix.com/lang/english/lp/lp_1680845.asp
If you can go to the website and update the driver.
If you are not familiar with it or have software that would use this driver make an anti virus scan
Download and make a full scan with malwarebytes.

A:can anyone help, Acer aspire m1610 or acer aspire t180

First, each model has multiple hardware specifications. So I have no way of knowing the hardware configurations of either unit that you have.

Second, upgrades are limited on OEM PC's. Your only options will be RAM and the video card. And in the case of the video card, the power supply may not be able to handle a decent card.

If Not expand network adapters, check if you see the Wireless adapter, Right click uninstall & restart the unit.4. If the Device is not detected underOthers / Unknown devices / network adapter, please contact Acer as it is a suspected Hardware Failure.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742, IntelCore i3-380M
I am attaching a few pictures of what comes on the screen when I turn it on.
Even in safe mode it does not let me log in, it attempts repairs, it fails and then goes to the black screen with the white cursor.
If I try to start windows normally it loads the logo and then goes to the black screen.
Yesterday, in an attempt to do repairs it was replacing invalid security drivers or something like that and it was taking ages so I had to turn it off.
For the last week it took very long to start up, failing to configure windows but it would eventually let me log in.
Since yesterday I am only getting the black screen. it is windows 7 by the way.

i need a very quick reply please

Quick reply!!! Save your data and restore back to factory. Always have a back up image of your OS on a external drive for next time you have this problem!!

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

My system is roughly months old I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to home premium There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to Acer M3203 Windows software Acer's upgrade and Aspire 7 deep hibernation The only way to wake it was to unplug Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software the power from the tower I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers to finally reinstalling everything No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer I just got it back from Acer's repair depot They had to replace the motherboard hard drive and fans on the system They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold the hibernation thing started again It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory Now it seems stable running Vista I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell Is it me or is Acer systems flakey Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows without having to format every week I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly Sometimes it won't even turn on Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!

So just today while i was on my PC, it randomly shut off. No warnings. Nothing.
I thought it overheated so i watched some TV and came back an hour later hoping it would start up fine, but instead my computer made it all the way to the desktop then shut off. After it shuts off it continues to try and start back up by itself but fails and shuts off.
Ive gone through and made sure all the wires are plugged in securely and it still hasnt fixed the problem. Everything seems to be getting power which leads me to believe that i might have a bad power supply.

A:PC shuts down within few seconds

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Can you boot into safe mode?

Can you access the bios?

Try disconnecting anything not required to boot the system. Just leave 1 stick of ram/hdd/video card/cpu/mobo and see if it boots.

Check that the heatsink is properly attached.

Check the mobo for any swollen or leaking capacitors. See HERE for further info.

See if any of the above helps.

I have a pc with a 1.7 celeron cpu, 768 MB DDR Ram, cd-writer, dvd-burner, a 40 gig and 120 gig hard-drives, and a Radeon 9700 pro video card. Also, the power supply says 400 wats. I bought it as a barebone system January of last year. Haven't had any problems until a week ago. When I try to turn it on, either it won't come on at all, or it will start to boot up, but after about 3 or so seconds, it shuts off. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem. I want to try to fix this myself, currently I don't have the funds to let someone else fix it. Any help given is greatly appreciated.

Now that I turn it back on it's just stuck on "Acer explore beyond limits" screen. It has been like this for days now. I've tried turning it on and off again several times. It's just stuck at that screen. What do I do? How do I fix this? I need this computer for school.

Acer Aspire Acer Keyboard Case with an unknown device appears that appears to be my keyboard yet when i type in the connection code it doesn't respond and then the device no longer is showing It could just be another bluetooth device though i live in a dorm so there's many other people with bluetooth devices in the area nbsp I checked out this nbsp https acer--uk custhelp Acer Keyboard Case (included with Acer Aspire P3) ... com app answers detail a id how-to-pair-the-acer-bluetooth-keyboar nbsp but it only applies to and not Perhaps acer should release a driver update for windows early adopters that fixes their keyboard to work with windows unless there is a simple bug fix I looked online but i Acer Keyboard Case (included with Acer Aspire P3) ... seem to be the only one with this issue so far possibly due to the newness of Acer Keyboard Case (included with Acer Aspire P3) ... nbsp Edit found this post which weirdly didn't show up previously nbsp http community acer com t Windows- Bluetooth-not-working-after-installing-Windows- -on-Aspire- nbsp trying to update my drivers again to confirm this isn't an issue nbsp edit nope it added a connected devices section to replace the bluetooth section but otherwise didn't solve the problem yet nbsp edit so after like hours i finally realized what was the issue In order for it to be discoverable you need to make sure to first install nbsp the new windows specific bluetooth driver mentioned in the above post then use the REPAIR option in the bluetooth drivers THEN make sure the keyboard starts having both its blue and orange light flashing reseting the connection After doing nbsp these three things the keyboard should be discoverable in the bluetooth connection menu of windows listed specially as a keyboard Then just type in the code and you should be good to go

Is this normal for a 6 month old machine..? I can't update windows 10. The message says that there's not enough room to update windows 10, so I buy a 32 gig card....still it says theres not enough space,,,so I try a 32gig usb stick....still no joy.....So I take it back to PC World where I'm treated like a child and told that they won't take it back...they'll just send it back to Acer to have windows 8 put on ...??!  and did I realise it was a cloudbook and NOT a laptop...!! Left the shop with steam coming out of my ears...so, my question is this....Has anyone out there succeeded in updating their windows 10 cloudbook Because that despite having owned and worked with computers for over 30 years I cannot solve this problem....(Nor have I experienced such poor ill informed salespeople as I have in PC World....but that's another story...

I have tried everything I can think of I have already read through a few other threads with the same issue but none of the fixes work for me It gets to the acer screen logo not boot Acer will Acer Aspire E15 past loads that little loading circle then it just goes black I have tried pushing Alt F and it got to the acer screen and said please wait then the screen went black again I have installed Windows on a USB drive and have went into the bios and enabled the boot menu as well as change the order Acer Aspire E15 will not boot past Acer logo of the boot to the USB This got me a bit closer but still stuck After about minutes it finally went to a purple screen and a window popped up asking to install I selected my language and clicked install it went to another screen that says setup is starting and it's been sitting this way for about minutes now I'm out of ideas Don't have a clue why this is going on This is a friend of mines computer he said he was in the middle of playing a game and the laptop froze then something came up and then it shut off When it booted up it wouldn't load past the acer screen

A:Acer Aspire E15 will not boot past Acer logo

Try booting to Memtest86 you can burn a CD and I think it can also be run from a USB bootable flash drive. This will test your memory for problems and also let you know that the hardware in general will run (except the hard drive which is ignored at this stage. If the memory is good, then boot to your hard drive mfg's utility or Seatools from Seagate (DOS version) the same as Memtest but it tests your hard drive to see if it is just the drive that you cannot install on.If the memory and hard drive tests OK then you may just need to delete all current partitions on the hard drive before trying to install. If the memory does not test good, try cleaning the contacts on the memory with a soft pencil eraser and snapping them in and out 5 or 6 times to also burnish the slot's contacts. Then try memtest again on one stick at a time in case one stick is bad, swap and try again. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

It sounds as though I m shuts powering up... after seconds PC off having the same problem or a very similar one as dmdmkm on a PC I m working on I ve worked on computers for years and this is PC shuts off seconds after powering up... the first time I have come across this problem I was PC shuts off seconds after powering up... brought an eMachines T AMD Athlon w W power supply that would no longer boot when the power button was pressed My first guess was that either the power supply was dead the power switch on the tower was broken or the motherboard was fried To kill two birds with one stone I bought a new tower with a W power supply and transferred all the components over to it Now when I go to boot the PC it powers up for - seconds and then shuts right off The only things plugged into this motherboard are a PCI modem and a stick of memory MB DDR PC everything else is built into the motherboard If anyone has a suggestion that can help me either fix this problem or narrow the problem down so that I can identify exactly what s wrong with the PC so I won t have to go though all of this again if it ever shows up in a future PC it would be greatly appreciated Thank you nbsp

Hi, my computer turns off after about 10 seconds after pressing the power button.

A:Computer shuts down after 10 seconds

Not sure this will help, but it may be useful, . .

The power button light located on the front of the computer illuminates and blinks or remains solid to indicate different states:

If the power light is green and the computer is not responding, see "Diagnostic Lights."
If the power light is blinking green, the computer is in standby mode. Press a key on the keyboard, move the mouse, or press the power button to resume normal operation.
If the power light is off, the computer is either turned off or is not receiving power.
Reseat the power cable into both the power connector on the back of the computer and the electrical outlet.
If the computer is plugged into a power strip, ensure that the power strip is plugged into an electrical outlet and that the power strip is turned on. Also bypass power protection devices, power strips, and power extension cables to verify that the computer turns on properly.
Ensure that the electrical outlet is working by testing it with another device, such as a lamp.
Ensure that the main power cable and front panel cable are securely connected to the system board.
If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
If the power light is steady amber, a device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed.
Remove and then reinstall the memory modules.
Remove and then reinstall any cards.
Remove and then reinstall the graphics card, if applicable.
Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.
Eliminate interference. Some possible causes of interference are:
Power, keyboard, and mouse extension cables
Too many devices on a power strip
Multiple power strips connected to the same electrical outlet

I've already replaced the PSU, added some arctic silver to the cpu, disconnected everything except for the 24pin and 4pin aux connectors. The computer turns on, then shuts itself off almost right away.
I disconnected the 4pin aux connector, so just the 24pin was connected and NOTHING else, and it stayed on. So I pinpointed it to the 4pin....what does this mean?

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's computer which I'm sure is infected with some kind of virus. She has XP home edition. After the icons load on the desktop, an error comes on stating that MSN has detected an error...she also said that the Microsoft send/ don't send error comes on the screen. After she hits don't send or even send, that's when the 60 seconds start to count down and shut off her computer. Any suggestions??

Thanks,

A:PC starts up for a few seconds then shuts down

It could be a heat problem. Remove and reinstall the heatsink and when you reinstall it, be sure you have full contact between the bottom of the heatsink and the top of the processor. And be sure to use a light coating of some kind of heatsink grease or the like.

Hello, I have a computer that I have built about 2 or 3 months ago. It works great up until the other day I decided to turn it on, but it turned on for about 3 seconds, then shut off and it does it every time I try to boot it up. I have changed the power supply and it does the exact same thing.

System Specs are as followed:

AMD Athlon 3800+ (Single Core)
1GB Ram
450W PSU
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card
ASUS M2N-MX SE Motherboard
160 GB Hard Drive

That is pretty much it along with 4 other fans here and there. But as you see, I have heard lots about this problem so I decided to change PSU's but it does the exact same thing. So I am thinking its not my PSU.

Please help, its my gaming computer and is literally killing me cuz its not working!! lol but yea, any advice/help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

It has done this for a long time now - I use firefox mostly but could do with IE7 working properly as well.

When I start it up it loads and the tabs appear and then it shuts itself down sometimes if I start it up again it will work OK but sometimes it will continue shutting itself down again.

I have tried the windows install of IE7 from the microsoft site and it appeared to be installing it (reinstalling) but the same problem persists....

Dell Dimension 2350 XP Home edition. Computer boots fine initially then gets to desktop and before you can do anything will power off. Can even get into safe mode and it will power off. Assuming this is hardware related I checked power supply; tests good. Fans work. I think I can hear hard drive slow spinning but cannot be sure. I reseated cards & replugged everything in again looking for bad connections. Any suggestions? Motherboard? Ram? Hard Drive?

A:Solved: XP Shuts Down after a few seconds

You might try unplugging the hard drive and see if it still shuts down after a certain amount of time. If the same thing happens, pull the memory and see if you get beep codes and whether or not the pc still shuts down after the same amount of time. If pulling the power to the hard drive takes care of it, it is probably a software issue.

A:Computer shuts down in 3-4 seconds

which graphics card are you using and can you boot into Safe Mode? if so, uninstall your graphics drivers and then reinstall them. it's sounding like the graphics card or the drivers are to blame, which is a fairly common problem. Windows may not be booting because there is a problem with the driver and therefore needs to be reverted or updated. the card could also be overheating in which case you may need to let it cool off before trying to boot windows again.

Woke up to notice that my computer was off. I typically leave it running all the time.

Wouldn't start. I press the power button, the processor does it's thing for about 5 seconds, beeps and then shuts off. Happens like this every time. Cleaned the fans and lubed them. Noticed that the fan over the heat sync wasn't moving. Replaced it. Still will not stay on for more than 5 secs. Even when nothing is hooked up other than the motherboard.

Had the power supply tested as this happened to me a year ago. Tested fine. Had it looked at by a 'professional' but could not figure out.

Running an Orion power supply. AMD 1.2ghz. 512 ram. 2 hard drives, a cd drive and a DVD drive. 16' monitor, Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse. Windows XPSP2.
Thanks.

Confirm the CPU fan is working
Read how to mount and paste a new CPU : http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruct/as5/ins_as5_intel_dual_wcap.pdf

Hi. I was given this Laptop (Satellite M60 -183) with the problem described.
After you press the power butoon, the power led turns on, you can hear the fan spin (only a few times not always), the screen stays black, and after a few 3-5 seconds it just turns off.
I have tried it several times with the same results. Also I tried using only ac power, reseating ram, hard drive, dvd rom, removing everything, but with the same result.

I have now dissasembled the entire laptop and try to operate it with just the basics. They told me that the original charger had stopped working and they replaced it with a generic one.
The laptop specifications say that it needs 19v and 3.95A, while the new charger has 19v and 6A.Do you believe the difference in the ampers could damage the system this way?....

Any help appreciated. Thanks

My computer hard drive(ATA) was clicking and then the computer would shut down when turned on. I have just put a new Hard Drive(SATA ) in and now when I turn on there is no clicking but the the computer still shuts down after a few seconds. I did notice (when I was putting in the new hard drive) that the NBFAN1 (Northbridge Chipset fan) support system cooling fan would not turn freely (no power on) and I wondered if that could cause the computer to shut down after a few seconds?
The motherboard is a MSI MS-7125 ATX

Remove any addon component (like any external USB connections)
Remove any disc in the CD drive
Try blowing out the fan again (actually you may need to really open the laptop up, and clean and re-paste the CPU heatsink - but this is difficult)
Also reseat and blow dust away from the Ram card(s)

My friend's computer decided to stop functioning recently without warning. No new hardware was added, no new software, nothing changed about the computer much at all. He just tried to restart it one day, and it wouldn't. Unfortunately, I don't have much in the way of specs, but here's what I've done:

Cleaned out TONS of dust
Made sure fans are spinning
Tried different power cords and outlets
Swapped/added/removed RAM
Unplugged all external devices
Disconnected CD drive

After all those (not all at once of course), the computer still shuts down about 5 seconds after being turned on. It doesn't even make it to the BIOS screen before it just shuts off. About once in every 10 tries it will run without issue, at least until I turn it off again. Any ideas what may cause this?

Hello everyone, first post here and of course it's a problem.

I have a Compaq Presario that I just bought off eBay without a HDD. I got the HDD today and went to plug it in and wouldn't you know, the Computer Starts up, I see "Compaq" and then it shuts down. Right before it shuts down it shows the Power Light disappearing on the Status bar on the Laptop. I could really use some help. The only thing I did was disconnect everything to get a bad floppy drive out. I'm a Mac person myself, so I'm not sure whats going wrong here.

Thanks,
Russ

I turned on my computer this morning and too my horror it shut down after about 2 seconds.

I have tried other ram and things, no difference, the hard drive is starting because it vibrates when you lift it, all the fans are starting up fine.

I tried taking out all the wires and re-seating them, and I have noticed something - you know the yellow and black came with the 4 pins that goes into the motherdrive, when I take that out the machine stays on but theres no graphics on screen, but when I plug it back in - it just shuts down again.

Anyone know what is going on? or how to fix this?

You mean the four pin plug that powers the CPU on the Motherboard?

Try having a check on the CPU fan, it may be faulty
To test it, you could unplug the CPU Fan, and try turning on the computer (do note that this will only be a few seconds test)

Other than that, I'd say Power Supply faulty

The problem started after i reinstalled XP, for system slow performance issue.
After XP installation, the noise from one of the system's fan was too much
and the PC shut down abrubtly.

Now the processor (intel) starts,Motherboard LED glows, CPU fan runs, but shuts down after few seconds. Now there's no much noise from any of the fans, but the fans do work.

No POST, No Video. Keyboard does not respond. No LEDs glow on Keyboard.
Not able to enter BIOS.

I've reseated RAM, CPU and also have cleaned the RAM.
All physical connections are correct.SMPS Works fine.

Please help me with this...

I'd say system slow performance followed by high fan speed followed by shut down sounds like the CPU overheated. Since you now get no post, it sounds like the CPU is damaged. My 2 cents.

Hi please could someone help:
In scenario 1 with everything as originally plugged in when I turned it on the boot menu started and a second after scanning IDE it cut out and switched off.
In scenario 2 with the IDE out the PC got past the boot menu, showed the safe mod, run normally etc options for a few seconds then cut out.
In scenario 3 with the orange flat wires from the hard drive and DVD drive switched and the IDE in (friend said this might work) it got to the part where the squares create the windows flag and cut out almost immediately.

First post here.

Basis of my problem.

-Dad was fixing some electrical powerpoints in the house and needed to switch off the main power supply.
-Computer was on, lost power once main supply was off.
-After he was done and main power was back on, i press power button on comp, starts up, then a few seconds later it shuts down again.

My first thought was that the PSU is dead and tried placing an old one from an older computer to see if that boots it up properly.
No luck, same problem occurs.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte, Model: GA-8VM800PMD-775-RH

I even tried clearing the CMOS, following instructions from the Motherboard manual.

Any ideas as to whats actually wrong with it, and what i need to fix it?
