Preferred Solution: Password lost on Dell Latitude c610

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an old Dell notebook, that do not have a cd-rom. I am thinking if I can change the BIOS, so that I can boot from an external cd-rom? I have the floppy drive, but do not have the cd-rom drive. If I can not, I must buy the cd-rom.

A:Solved: Ram For Dell Latitude C610

The Dell Latitude C610 laptop supports a maximum of 1024 MB(1 GB) of RAM.

It uses 144-pin PC133 SODIMM modules.

Since it has 2 slots, you can add a maximum of 512 MB in each slot.

I just reloaded windows 98 back on computer, after formating and partitioning hard drive. now my screen resolution wont go higher than640x480. I have windows xp on seperate partition and the resolution while in xp is fine. when i check the properties of the adapters/drivers, they are different. setup says my display is for a ati radeon mobility but i cant find a adapter/driver that will work in 98.

A:dell latitude c610 screen resolution

You have to install your video card drivers. go to www.ati.com and select the "Drivers and Downloads". You should be able to find a copy there. If not, go to www.driverguide.com and sign up. It is free and offers thousands of drivers. You will find it there if nothing else.

Anyhow, at some points while using this laptop the pointer would randomly go off into the corner of the screen. Whenever I tried to move it from there it would resist from movement. I installed the drivers for this laptop but it still does it. Any help is appreciated.

(I'm afraid to contact Dell about this laptop cause I bought it at a Yard Sale. I tried to once but apparently I guess the phone number and name didn't match the the info on the Service Tag and they were asking me weird questions.)

The screen panel hinges on a Dell Latitude C610 I have are EXTREMELY loose. Everything else about the system is perfectly fine, it was my main computer for about ten months. But if the screen is not propped against a wall or something, it will fall open or fall shut every single time. Balance the screen in a perfectly vertical position, sure, but if someone walks by or closes a door it will fall open or fall shut. Really annoying. People have actually told me to use duct tape or super glue. Is there an easy, step-by-step guide to (ideally) fixing, or (if not) replacing these hinges? Thanks in advance

I recently had to reinstall windows XP on my recently aquired Dell Latitude. Model number is c510/c610.

I aquired it refurbished, and came with a built in wireless adapter. It should still be the same adapter that the computer was made with.

However, when I reinstalled Windows XP, the wireless adapter's software was not installed. My computer's internet connections tell me that there is only an ethernet conection, and I do not know where or what I need to install to get wireless to work.

Can someone please point me in the right diraction as to where to find this and how to enable wireless. I have tried several drivers from the Dell Website, but there are alot and I do not know which one is correct.

Thank you for your help.

A:Reinstalling wireless for Dell Latitude c510 c610

You may need to open up the laptop and find out just what the wireless card's make and model actually is. It might be Atheros or something like that. You might be able to access the card from the memory compartment

Done some searching and this seems the right forum to ask for help. Tried dissconecting the bios battery, and contacting dell but unless I have the original owners details to do an ownership transfer they won't help. Its an old c600 notebook that we got on ebay two years ago and has a service number GWJJ51S. Not sure if I can ask for help with this problem but if anyone has an idea I can try for this model I would be very thankfull. cheers

can someone please help me get pass this...because i need this comp for art school which begins sept 4.....thanks in advance....

There is a ton of stuff on this forum regarding the D610, and passwords.... I think the D610 is one of those that cannot be fixed, but I am certain there are more useful posts on this Techspot forum than anywhere else. There are techs who really know their stuff on Dell boards and paswords.
So do a number of searches here. There is a lot of very helpful information that will save you time.
Good luck. It is a toughie.
You might be thinking about replacing the computer... just because of your Sept 4 deadline... as it may take a longer than that to resolve it.
Good luck to you. Please let us know how it all turns out.

I have bought a second hand Dell and on power up I am asked for a password for which I have no idea nor does the person I bought the laptop from.
I have stripped the laptop to look for jumpers etc. to no avail.
I beleive from what I have seen of the chipset that the password is buried in nvram.
Anybody done a hardware reset of the bios on one of these machines?
Maybe I can short some pins on the nvram (if I could find it).

A:Dell Latitude D620 BIOS Password

Short answer: You need the original password.
That unit has been refurbished by a Dell-authorized shop (as all with the 595B are) so the restore discs cannot be used.
All of the suggestions your tried, are known not to work in that model... The D600 and D620 are the most difficult of all Dells to fix. You will likely need to replace the motherboard with one known to work. Most of the boards on eBay have the same problems you have.

I bought an used E4620, was told that it only needed an administrative password. I then took it to a local repair shop which HA it for three weeks.
They could NOT gain access, I now have it back and still need an administrative password.
There is also the additional problem, that I have attempted multiple times to move ownership to myself but each time I am told that the process has been initiated, when I check back it's not done.

Its service tag is f86mgc1-595b

I was able to remove one password with removing the cmos battery, but it still has the main passwords in the bios locked. The unlock -setup- password, admin password are locked. I reset the system password by removing the cmos battery.

We'd be most greatful.

I have an old Dell C610 which is quite in good shape and I wonder if it would be possible to have a wireless lan module working in it.
I am sure I could use the MiniPCI slot for a Dell wlan card but how about the antenna? Thinking about that raises another question. What are those two black covered wires with the small and round connectors for? they seem to belong to the MiniPCI port.

A:DELL C610 does not boot - trying to flash the bios chip

It was the standby switch/reed contact

risck said:

When I had completed reassembling, the laptop does not boot without the HDD, which is password-protected. When I start it with the protected HDD, it is shutting off. The DELL splash screen is showing for a short moment with "BIOS revision A05" and corresponding messages: "Preparing to enter setup..." or "Preparing one-time boot menu..." when the F2- or F12-key was hit.

KlausClick to expand...

The system did in fact boot with an external display. In the DELL Community Forum I receiced the hint to the standby switch. It is the reed contact on the Power LED assembly, the glass had been crashed and the contacts where closed.

Exchanging the assembly solved the problem. The contact is even available in local electronics store.

I am new to networking. I am trying to connect my iMac running OS X thru a 2Wire router to a Dell C610 laptop. URL's and email are passing thru with no problem. I would like to be able to print from the Dell. The printer is connected to the iMac. The iMac recognizes the Dell as part of the network, so, I am assuming that the problem is with the setting on the Dell. Can anyone steer me to the info that I need or offer a solution? I'm sorry but I need step by step help.

Joseph mate best leave as is after all it was made to function as it came. Now for the compound and copper shim personally I would not bother with the copper shim I can see no good reason for it the dual pipe again if it was made to work with one pipe then leave alone.

It is better if you renew the compound using a decent cleaner and compound and I can recommend these for that job

Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean for thorough cleaning and preparation and Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5 for the compound.

Now it depends on who you listen to but I always use these products and after the old compound is thoroughly cleaned off and the surfaces prepped I spread the compound very thinly and across the both entire surface of the CPU and the heatsink with my finger inside a vinyl or latex glove and then place a rice grain sized piece of compound on the CPU and replace the heatsink. If you touch the surfaces after clean and prep then redo it.

While you are in there do make sure the fan and the radiator are really spotless and I sometimes relube the fan bearings to make sure the fan is running at full tilt when needed.

My son was using my laptop a few months ago and put a boot password on it. I went to get into yesterday and he can't remember the password. I have heard that dell has masterpasswords, called them but no help since I am not the original owner. purchased it from guy I worked with almost 2 years ago and he got it from someone else. worked fine until my SON put password on it. Help.

A:Dell Inspiron 5100 HDD password lost

This might help

Can you still access the CMOS? If you can do that it is usually possible to tell it not to use a password on boot. Well maybe, but it is worth a try. It depends on how the password was invoked. If it was as a user in windows with admin privilages it could be tough.
I am not sure if you mean a password that is only for the software program such as windows or it if is not going to let you boot the computer at all. The cmos password can be removed usually as I said earlier. The one in windows boot could be a bigger problem and I think there are programs that can help fine it for you, but I will have to ask around. I always have to write mine down especially now that I am getting older.
Now if this is a Cmos password and you cannot seem to get into Cmos it might be necessary to clear the cmos. This will not be the end of the world but you will have to install all the drivers for the devices again. This might work well from your supplied disks if you were given any. I do not want you to reinstall windows as that will erase all your data. Clearing cmos will necessitate going into the laptop to remove for a min or so the cmos battery and of course first of all, the reglular laptop battery for this to work. I can understand you might be afraid to do this so you might want to take it to a tech that is not. It is not a hard thing to do and would take only min I would assume. This resets cmos and does not affect what is on the hard drive and in windows.
I think you will be able to fix this ok. Worse comes to worse you might have to reinstall windows but it should give you a way to save all your previous setting and installation of windows. You may be able to opt to fix it, but only if you are able to boot up to that point using F8 key I think.
I can help more if I know your complete situation.

Maybe if you pop out the battery for fifteen seconds the bios reset might include the password as well. I've never tried to reset that password so no guarantee on this. It will not hurt anything. Good Luck.

Trying to reset the password on and old C400, it is asking for primary or administrator password. I have no idea what to put in there, and can't see if  the computer will function at all!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

A:Need the reset for password on Latitude C400, bios revision A06, original password.?

You'll need to call Dell with verification of ownership -- it may not be worth it though, since the call will cost about $60, which is probably about six times more than the entire system is worth.
The other option is to replace the mainboard - which is probably well under $60.

Hey guys.
Pretty much what the title says - Dell's new, recently-released ControlVault driver (version A19) does not successfully install on a Dell Latitude E6330.  I followed the driver installation order from the "Dell Business Client Re-Image 'How-To' Guide" and installed the Dell ControlVault driver last.  It did not work.
Attached is a screenshot of what I got, and the Windows Installer log.

I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my Latitude E6400. I cannot seem to find any way to install Dell Control Point. I got the Driver Pack to install. I found one download of Security Manager that worked, but I would like the Power Manager one.

I've looked on this forum a few times and any links I click on just redirect me to the Drivers and Downloads page. I get errors saying that my service pack is not supported.....I'm on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I also got some 32-bit errors, but that's my fault for downloading the 32-bit version.

Does anybody have a link to the full Dell Control Point package (Power Manager, Connection Manager, Security Manager) that will work on 64-bit Windows 7?

Thanks
-Ryan

for the basics and schoolwork
and which is newer

A:which is better dell latitude e5440 or dell latiude e6430

The E6430 has a metal case and is more robust, but uses an older CPU and chipset.
The E5440 is a plainer chassis with a newer generation CPU and chipset.
The E6440 is the concurrent update to the E5440.
There are too many possible configurations to definitively say which is better -- it depends on the CPU, GPU, etc. in the specific model (or that you choose when you order one, but since the E6430 isn't a current model,  you may be looking at used systems).

I own a Dell Latitude E6430.   I am looking for a Dell Companion 12000mAh or 18000mAh type of device to power and charge my Dell Lattitude E6430 when I am traveling (no outlet available).   When I view the compatibility list for both the Dell Companion 12000mAh and the 18000mAh I don't see the Dell Latitude E6430 in either list.  I went and purchased the 12000mAh and I am attempting to use this to charge and power my Dell Latitude E6430.  It powers my Dell Laptop for about a minute and then quits.   Is there a solution for this problem?   And/or is there another Dell Companion type device that I can purchase that is listed as 100% compatible with the Dell Latitude E6430?   I would like to either get this solution working or purchase the product that is listed as 100% compatible.

A:Help with Latitude D800 Password

You should first contact Dell Tech support to register yourself as the owner of the machine, using that service tag number.
It may be that the computer is a refurbished unit sold by another retailer who is not Dell. Dell Tech support will tell you what can be done, and what cannot be accomplished.
It is the best place to start. If the computer has not been reported stolen, and is a valid system, I am sure you will get some help... that will likely be less risky than trying to access the EEPROM on the motherboard, or the firmware that controls the password.
From that contact, you can decide whether you need to come back here. There are some very good people on this forum that can help with most Dell passwords, but not all of them... It varies by model number.

You will have to fully verify ownership of the system including name, company, and all contact information prior to their being able to help you.

Dell's process cannot be done via email or chat, and only by phone.

You might also search this forum for user name DellCA, which are a number of Dell Consumer Advocates who will give you the straight poop from the standpoint of Dell... and are sometimes quite helpful in resolving such issues.

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude CPi R400GT thru a garage sale. The previous owner didn't give me any info, passwords, etc. I have been able to disable the admin password, but there is still a hard-drive password that I can't disable/erase and when I do get into the BIOS, it says there is no Primary Hard Drive. Is this because of needing the password? Or because something's wrong w/ the HD? How can I fix these problems so that I may use my laptop? My email is [email protected] for any help anyone could give me.

Edit: removed e-mail address -- Nodsu

A:latitude cpi harddrive/password

You probably got yourself a stolen laptop.

The hard drive should be recognised by the BIOS even when it is password protected, so yeah, it is probably dead (or even not there at all).

Mind you, it is extremely stupid to throw around your e-mail address like this! Do you like spam? And also, we annot respond to you in private, because the very point of these forums is having a public source of information.
