I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try formatting the new drive using something like this:

My Acer Aspire laptop has recently come up with the message 'Windows failed to start A recent hardware or software change might be the cause' when i turn it on It gives me the option to launch setup repair but when i do it eventually ends up on a blue screen similar to the startup screen only with no login feature or anything to click and will just stay on this screen as long as i leave it If i try to start Windows normally it just returns to this Acer up 5740 start won't Aspire windows recovery page eventually I have tried opening the f menu when starting the laptop and have tried to start the computer in safe mode and almost all other modes on this menu but they all just lead back to the original message and windows recovery screen Any help would be massively appreaciated and i don't have any original windows disks at the moment so if there was Acer Aspire 5740 won't start up a way to get round this without reinstalling windows via a disk i would reallyt appreciate it Thanks Will

A:Solved: Acer aspire 5740-5780 network driver

The Acer Aspire 5740 is listed on this Acer site: http://support.acer.com/drivers_download.aspx
And all the drivers appear to be there as well. Make sure to install all the drivers and applications.

As for the Windows error, lets see if that clears up after the drivers are installed.

Hey, I have an ASPIRE 5740 that needs a new bios installed through (fn + esc) method. I have the bios file downloaded from Acer, but i don't know which file to use or what to rename it to. My research tells me its probably the .bin or .rom file, but that's as far as i've got based on user contribution for other Acer models. If anyone knows which extension to use and the file name that my bios will accept, I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you tried launching it in "Safe Mode"? That would be the first thing I would try, and see if it will load past that screen. If it does, then there is probably something installed on the device that is causing the problem and you will need to see about uninstalling it.

If it doesn't move past, and still gets stuck, you may have a hardware problem.

i don't think you need parts. the HDD card connector is the big one under near (JHDD) the fan connector (JFAN), you just to slip the HDD cable inside and push back the connector.

Hello everyone.

OK, everything began since the monitor got damaged and was in a bootloop after hibernating Windows. So, we decided to repair the laptop, they said they no longer have parts for the monitor (although it got itself fixed while going home), but they fixed the bootloop. It was a installed with a Windows 8. After I opened "This PC", the 2nd hard drive was missing. My mom asked if they removed it or not, Acer replied that they did not removed the hard drive. I tried installing Windows 7, but the installer only saw the 1st drive. After installing Windows 7, I checked the BIOS (InsydeH20 Setup Utility), but it just really showed up the 1st one. So for now, I am only using 1 drive, and trying to keep my drive to have more space. Is there any fix for it? Please reply.

I just bought this and the hard drive is already filling up fast. Will getting an SD card make a difference? What can I do about this? I won't be doing anything fancy on it - just internet access and using the basic 3 MS Office products. Right now there's only 654 MB of space left. I have not yet installed my printer driver on it because I want to see what the resposnes are. Should I get an SD card and install the printer driver on the SD card? More info:eMMC 16GB2GB DDR3 L Memory Thanks!

the question is would i be able to swap the hardrives around... without damage to the 500gb installed OS'....i.e. when i dont' want to use the 80gb i plug in the 500gb and the installed OS' load normally with no errors...

A:acer aspire 5735-hard drive swap

If I understand you correctly I think you mean you want to be able to swap between 2 hard drives on your laptop, please correct me if I'm wrong

In answer to your question, yes you can do this without damaging the operating system on your HDDs but be sure to remove them when the machine is powered down.

I have had experience with replacing HDDs on various laptops including Acers and just wanted to give you the heads up that it can be more difficult than you think to get into the HDD bay; especially if you have to remove the whole plastic case to get to it.

However why do you not simply buy a cheap USB 2.5" caddy and put your smaller drive in there, then boot from it via USB? It would not require you to open up the laptop every time and would in most case be more convenient for both sharing files and quick OS changes. The only downside is that your drive may not have the performance of it's internal counterpart but that shouldn't be too noticeable in most cases.

A:Acer aspire hard drive upgrade doesn't work.

You didn't say which OS you have but with Windows 7-up you should be able to create a recovery flash drive and save a system image on a hard drive. Then use the recovery drive to restart the machine with the new disk and when asked, tell it to recover from the system image you saved. ps this works if going from a smaller to an equal or larger disk but not to a smaller one.

A:Acer Aspire hard drive failed... recovery media no longer available?

You can't legally used your Desktop's recovery media on your laptop (also because usually manufacturer's build such medium for a particular piece of hardware, with all drivers etc. pre-installed).

I think you can either choose to run Ubuntu or you can get one of those cheap OEM windows media from e.g. newegg. However, one draw back of this is, I believe you can't get any help from Microsoft directly, if you ever need it.

Basically, it depends on what version of Windows you are running and make sure that the laptop has a SATA or PATA connection...

Hi there I have an Acer Aspire Aspire as hard adding Acer SSD but additional - room! no drive X1301 X desktop pc which is running so slowly I was advised that installing an SSD would speed Acer Aspire X1301 - adding SSD as additional hard drive but no room! it up and give Acer Aspire X1301 - adding SSD as additional hard drive but no room! it a new lease of life so I purchased one Sadly however upon opening the pc case I realised that there was no spare space inside for me to be able to install the new SSD and retain the old hard drive for storage purposes - However I do have a quot optical drive in there which is broken and hasn't been used for years I have an external optical drive that I use when I need to So I guess my question is can I remove the internal optical drive and use that bay to house my new SSD If so is there such a thing as an adapter that I can buy to be able to mount the drive into the large bay Can I use the same cables or will the SSD require different connectors I would be very grateful of any advice - I haven't attempted anything like this before Thanks

A:Acer-Aspire V3 laptop hard-drive died, no recovery disk

The Windows 8 key is embedded in the BIOS, there is no COA sticker.

I believe you will have to wait for the recovery disk if you want Windows 8 as you will not be able to download a Windows 8 ISO without a retail key. Microsoft really screwed this up and has made no attempts to fix it.

You can do a clean install of a Windows 7 upgrade disc, see here: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct sub-section of the forum but couldn't see a more appropriate place.

Any advice appreciated: I'm trying to do a factory restore on my Acer Aspire laptop, as it started crashing, stalling etc. and then eventually just failing to boot up. I've gotten a fair bit of my important stuff off it using a Linux (Knoppix) disc, so am ready to do a factory restore.

However, when I try to do so, I get the error message: "WIMApplyImage Fail. Error: 045D" then I click on "OK" and it says "FAIL to restore image"

Any ideas? I'm worried that my hard drive may be physically damaged. When I listen it's making the odd whirring/clicking noise, but doesn't sound particularly out of the ordinary to me.

Or, on the other hand, does anybody know of any alternative options to the in built Acer factory restore?

Thanks,

Chris

A:(Acer Aspire laptop) Factory Restore failing - hard drive damaged?

Hi Chris. Welcome to TSF.

Have you tried opening up a terminal window and running chkdsk /r on your system? You might also run "sfc /scannow" from within the terminal window as well just to see if perhaps your problems are system-file related.

The clicking noise you're hearing is a bit troubling as it is often an indicator of an impending hard drive failure. I'm glad that you backed up your stuff though. Often that is one thing many people do NOT do and then they are left scrambling for ways to recover their data.

Good day!

Mike

Hi I have a laptop that I have Linux on that I am trying to reload Windows XP on. Its an acer aspire and for some reason when I start the installation processes from the boot cd., the second it starts going to to recognize the hardware it just has a black screen and the hard drive and dvd rom drives spin down, and it does not proceed to go into the installation.

This problem starts very quickly right at the very beginning of the installation process. I haven't seen anything on acers website like a bios upgrade or anything to fix this issue. Anyone else seen this issue and have any way around it? BTW, Linux installed just fine. Just not windows. The Windows CD works fine too.

Thanks in advance!!

A:Trying to install Windows XP on Acer Aspire 3000 install fails

Hi,

I just had the same problem on an Acer Veriton Desktop. I had installed Linux on the machine and then wanted to revert to XP Pro.

I managed to get XP reinstalled eventually but took a while to figure out what was causing it. Turns out it was because the hard drive was formatted into 'ext3' by Linux. I am not sure yet why this caused a problem so early in the XP setup but it did. I took the drive out of the machine and put it in another I had, formatted it back to NTFS and created a Primary partition on it. Put it back in the Acer and ran XP setup and it worked straight away.

Hope this helps others who have the same problem in the future.

Cheers

That might be your best bet.

I cannot update my netbook. During the Windows 8.1 to 10 update WHEA (blue screen error) error appears and windows 8.1 is reinstalled. I have tried it several times with different external USB disks used to extend the system capacity. Clean Windows 10 installation works but I cannot activate Windows 10. I have regular issues with WHEA error. It was solved by the processor power reduction to 95%. The Netbook has already been  in Acer service but the WHEA issue has not been solved.I am thinking to return it back.

A:Acer Aspire ES1 111M cannot install windows 10

Gregorius1, This is what I would do if I were in your shoes...... According the post below, Microsoft will allow you to do a clean install of Windows 10 in November by entering the key.  Obviously you found out that doing a clean install is not a proper upgrade procedure at the present moment.  Not sure what date in November.  But you should be able to do a clean install of Windows 10 sometime in Novemeber and have it activate properly.  Just write down your Windows 8.1 w/ bing key. Don't try to clean install now, because it doesn't work....to the best of my knowledge.  You'll have to use Windows 8.1 w/ bing for now.  https://neosmart.net/OemKey/ http://community.acer.com/t5/Windows-10/Next-Windows-10-release/m-p/389710 Note: I assume in November you'll be able to do clean install of win10 for computers w/ Windows 8.1 w/ bing.  But I can't guarantee it.

I'm having trouble installing windows 7 on my Aspire M1610. I have had to replace the hard drive and the recovery discs have gone missing, moved house. I have tried vista also, which it came with, should I be able to use a retail copy of windows and get a clean install or do I need an Acer branded disc for bios reasons or something?  I'm confused. I thought any retail disc woulld install on any pc as long as you had the drivers and correct product key. I get as far as selecting the disc partition and then windows copies, installs and says saving and setting up services and then when it says restarting to complete installation it wont boot. Im using a wd 2.5" 320GB sata drive. Should this just work? Thanks in advance Mogsey

Changing the Operating System may cause driver conflicts. The compatible drivers for Windows 8.1 will not be available in the website for this laptop. Hence, some of the features on the laptop might not work after changing the OS.  1: Since you have already created the USB recovery media from the laptop, you do not have to copy anything else other than this.  Make sure you you backup all files before installing the OS, as it will remove all data from the laptop. I see that, you have the unused Pro retail key for the OS, hence, you do not have to have the OEM product key. You need to use the product key for Windows 8.1 Pro to activate it, not the Acer OEM product key.  In the BIOS, select BOOT tab.  Select BOOT MODE as Legacy Mode instead of UEFI.Disable Secure Boot. Under Boot Priority Order, you need to select 1 as CD/DVD (if you are using disc), or USB FDD or USB HDD (if you are using USB drive) to install Windows 8.1 Pro.  Then press the F10 key and select "Yes" to save the changes in BIOS.  ->You an install Windows 8.1 Pro using my ISO and installing the drivers from the Acer support website. As said before, there may driver conflicts.  -> If you want to switch back to Windows 8.1, you may use the USB reovery drive (which created you have created from the recovery partition). When you do this, the Windows 8.1 Pro and it's product key will be removed from the laptop and the factory shipped OS, drivers, apps (and the OEM product key) will be installed automatically. You do not have to use the Windows 8.1 Pro key with Acer OEM USB reovery media.  -> You need to do a clean install using the USB recovery drive to install factory shipped Windows on the laptop.

So I upgraded to windows 10... It didnt work quite well and I decided to use eRecovery to return to windows 8 and then update to 8.1.After the system restore I found out that windows was corrupt. (Windows worked, however I cant install updates)So I decided to wipe everything and clean install windows 8.1, only to find out that I can only install it using Legacy Boot mode, using the UEFI it gives me the error: Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration, installation cannot proceed. (Already tried disabling secure boot, no success.) Legacy mode worked fine until I went ahead to re-install drivers, that's when I noticed that some hardware wasn't detected, my nVidia gpu for example.Any help is appreciated. (Please... I'm so frustrated right now.)And yes, I configured another usb to fully support UEFI boot, no success.

A:Acer Aspire V3-772 Windows 8.1 clean install

1.  Backup your important personal files because the following steps will completely wipe your drive 2.  Go in to your BIOS and load your BIOS defaults (F9) and then save/exit (F10).  Your computer is not designed to run Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 in legacy mode. 3. Go back in to your BIOS and enable the F12 boot menu. 4. Boot your Windows 8.1 installation media 5.  When you see the screen below, press Shift F10 on your keyboard to get a command prompt   6. Use diskpart clean to wipe your drive.  "Diskpart clean" works on both HDDs and SSDs.  This will also put your drive in an uninitialized state. http://forum.crucial.com/t5/The-Cru/Reset-your-SSD-to-factory-settings-Windows-DiskPart/ba-p/162503 7. Exit out of diskpart and exit out of command prompt 8. Install Windows 8.1.  Select custom install.  Click on the drive where you want to install Windows 8.1 (it should say unallocated space) and then click "next". The Windows installer will automatically partition and format your drive and install windows. If my steps don't work, then that means you don't have UEFI installation media.  If that's the case....download iso and use rufus to create UEFI installation media. You always have the option of getting your windows 8 media from acer store,,,,,if you prefer factory install. http://us-store.acer.com/erecovery/rcd/

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 (64 bit) on an Acer Aspire 5741 laptop using a retail Windows disk which included SP1. The install seemed to go OK but I can't connect to the internet. The hardware page on the control panel shows exclamation marks against three items, and says drivers are missing for them. These are:

Network Controller
Ethernet Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller

I visited Acer's support site which has a driver download page for the Aspire 5741. This is it:

My question is...which of these drivers should I install?

I am using a Devolo DLAN Homeplug connection with a Linksys WAG325N gateway.

[I put this question to Acer support by email and got a reply from Sunil. His answer was, I should.....'update the appropriate drivers'. Thanks Sunil .]

hi,When I go to format my Acer it gets to the Windows 8.1 section where you select the hard drive to install Windows on before clicking next, also has the option to format and I think make a partition but there is no hard drive showing up in that box so I can't continue from there, it's the part after selecting language and clicking install.Has anyone else had this problem? If so how can I get my hard drive to appear in the box?Is there anything in the bios settings that can make my hard drive appear in the box?Thank you.

A:hard drive crash... install windows on new hard drive withou...

Galilee Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wanting to restore your PC and wanted to help -- but need more information. Your PC did not come with Win10 preinstalled, so if you were to order HP Recovery Media and use that, it would restore the original operating system, drivers, and HP utilities.  I presume this is NOT what you want, right? So, while you can make Win10 media to recover your PC, it would be a clean-install and nothing would be preserved. You can make such media using this tool: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit).  While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code! Good Luck

I have a month old Acer Aspire E 15 laptop. Its touchpad is very hard and for normal touch it just keeps roaming picking up cells. It can only be stopped by taking off the finger and then carefully taking cursor to an empty cell and press hard to click so the several picked up cells get released and I can work further. I tried Fn+F7 suggested by a forum member but it acts only an On/Off switch for the touchpad. Press Fn+F7 and it goes off, press again it comes back. But the hardness remains. A click with the touchpad means press the touchpad hard till it literally 'clicks'. Looks like the machine will be usable only with a mouse. Before I had a Lenovo and never faced any such problem. Anyone faced such a problem? And any solutions?

Hi,If you have Precision Touchpad in your laptop, go to Settings, Devices and select mouse and touchpad, try disabling features one by one and test whether it resolves the problem, when you say that you have to press hard, did you mean physically? If it is, then it may be a hardware problem and needs a technicians attention.

Hi A lady friend has asked me to change the pre-installed Windows Vista for Windows XP Pro The XP Pro disc was purchased cannot Pro Aspire M1641; install XP Acer especially for this change To begin with I tried Acer Aspire M1641; cannot install XP Pro to clean and reformat partition the HDD with Paragon Acer Aspire M1641; cannot install XP Pro Hard Disk Manager but it failed to find a HDD to operate on Knowing that something was not quite right I started to Google Now days later I have established that the Aspire M desktop PC has SATA drivers that refuse to accept the XP o s I have used nLite to slipstream SATA drivers from several sources including Acer's own site only to find that as soon as Windows starts the install - after d ling all the files - I get the BSoD and the x B error Obviously it is not as easy as all the other changing of o s's I have done for countless people over recent years I can only think now that an upgrade of the BIOS might be the answer but I am reluctant to do this in case I make a mistake I have been to the Acer site and I have downloaded and saved what they tell me is the latest upgrade for the current BIOS R -B ver release date which is R C This folder contains an AFUWIN exe file and the readme txt file tells me quot Windows flash Please click quot AFUWIN exe quot to update BIOS quot There is also a file which I read somewhere during my researching is actually the required ROM file for this particular upgrade As a result of all this mixed up information and advice I am somewhat confused as to what to do next I mean is it really necessary to upgrade the BIOS I am assuming that doing so will allow the XP Pro disk to install I hope I have given enough information for someone to be able to help with this unforeseen problem I have never come across anything like this in the past and find it quite fascinating as well as frustrating Were it my own PC I would have upgraded the BIOS already but for the fact I have no idea how to back this one up in case anything goes wrong nor how to use said backup even if I had one MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all who read this post and those who do not

A:Acer Aspire M1641; cannot install XP Pro

"the Aspire M1641 (desktop) PC has SATA drivers that refuse to accept the XP o/s"

That's not the issue exactly. The fact is that Windows XP Setup prior to SP2 versions does not support SATA hardware natively. You need to put the correct SATA drivers on to a floppy disk.
During the early part of XP Setup you'll see at the bottom of the screen a message:
"Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver"

It doesn't mention SATA drivers there but it applies to SATA drivers just the same.

Incidentally, I trust you've checked that Acer has XP device drivers for that model? If they don't, finding drivers that work may prove challenging.

Hey guys, i'm having a few issues installing a fresh Win8.1 to my aspire e15.
I know the system comes with Acer's recovery partition etc. BUT... what i want to avoid is installing all that Acer bloatware i have a Win8.1 x64 iso with a digitally purchased key that i would rather install than deal with all the extra's.

I have tried previously but failed and i'm looking at swapping out my 1tb into an enclosure and using an SSD for my OS so i'm going to have to deal with this at some point.

As far as im aware my BIOS does not support booting from anything other than the system HDD.

So does anyone know a way around this?
Any help is greatly appreciated, even if it's a simple No.

A:Acer Aspire E15 Win8.1 Install

No your system should be able to boot via DVD/USB

Create your windows 8.1 setup media > Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

Either USB
or
ISO - right click ISO and select burn to DVD

Insert media

Right Charm -> Change PC Settings -> Update and Recovery -> Recovery -> Advanced Startup ->
Restart Now -> Use a Device - select your media type

Before all that I would Highly Suggest you create Acer factory recovery media - just in case..

Hi!

I have an old Acer Aspire One
A150X netbook with the following specs:

1.6 Mhz Atom chip
1GB RAM
160 GB hdd
8.9 inch screen (1024600)
Windows XP
Does anyone know if it would be possible to run Windows 8 on this computer? I don't expect it to be lightning fast, I'd probably use it for internet browsing, Word, Excel, and to watch some movies...
There is also a recovery partition, would I be able to us this after a clean Windows 8 installation, if it turns out to be too slow?
Thanks.

You maybe able to but ,your systems specs are kinda outdated. You can try. If they are to old it will not install. Plus you will need to find drivers for your hardware. GoodLuck.

My system is roughly months old I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to home premium There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to Acer M3203 Windows software Acer's upgrade and Aspire 7 deep hibernation The only way to wake it was to unplug Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software the power from the tower I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers to finally reinstalling everything No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer I just got it back from Acer's repair depot They had to replace the motherboard hard drive and fans on the system They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold the hibernation thing started again It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory Now it seems stable running Vista I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell Is it me or is Acer systems flakey Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows without having to format every week I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly Sometimes it won't even turn on Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Hey,

I have an Acer Aspire One A0751H that's been running Windows XP on a HDD.
I've replaced that drive with a 120GB Sandisk SSD and I'm trying to install Windows 7 from an external DVD.

I select the custom install path and select the single unallocated partition for installation.
It works fine up to the point where it says "Copying Windows files (0%)..." where it hangs.
No progress, cursor freezes, no response.

The only other change I've made to the machine is to upgrade the RAM to 2GB of Corsair.
I've disabled all other boot devices in bios (no floppy drive)

I've seen other A0751H running Windows 7 on SSD's so I know it can work.
Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

A:Acer Aspire One A0751H install onto SSD hangs.

Where did you get Win7? How do you plan to activate it?

Try install from a DVD or Flash stick as an external drive requires a boot manager and isn't worth the trouble.

I have Win XP pro on a cd, and 7 ultimate on a dvd and as well as it's image in my toshiba laptop. I actually intend to follow the instructions to dual boot but my question is how do i install the first OS on a netbook with no optical drive? Also I don't know if it has a restore from partition, I will check when I get home tonight, but I don't think so.

A:How do i install Win XP on an optical-less Acer Aspire One Netbook?

I'ved never done it with XP, but you may be able to use a USB flash drive.

Microsoft has a downloadble tool to prepare a drive from an .iso, but I don't know that it supports XP.

Make sure that he has his XP disc/key ready, any data from Vista that he wants backed up, the drivers for his SATA HD on a Disc (This may not be necessary)

First step...do the above
Second Step...boot the XP disc and if it recognizes his HD than you are almost golden
Third Step...Install XP
Fourth Step...Enjoy!

Even though we are a Win7 help forum...don't be a stranger and come back to ask questions even if you run XP

I had no problem to download the BIOS files(BIOS_Acer_P01.A4_A_A.zip)  from the site of Acer but when I unzip the files and see different names of BIOS to install? I don't know which one is the right one to install BIOS? Here are below: AFUDOS.exeFlash.bat_checksum.exeafuwin.exeWFLASH32.BATafuwin64.exeWFlash64.Bat Anyway my desktop is 64X with Microsoft Windows 10 Home Premium. I will wait to hear which file is the right one to install the update BIOS? As I need for the graphic card. John

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire that was donated to me (teacher) running Windows 7, and it will not allow Icon Restore to load. I have IR on two other computers and it works great. I've tried about 5 times already to no avail. It goes through the entire setup procedure, says it's installed, but then there's no trace of it anywhere. And each time, it does not say "Hey, this is already downloaded."

So.....can anyone say what the problem is? And failing that, any other suggestion for a good program that will restore icons that have gone astray?

Hello. I have installed intel's driver detection tool and it informed me that I have a custom driver installed by the manufacturer. Acer site scanned my pc and found new driver VGA 10.18.15.4248, which i downloaded but upon installation tells me is the wrong driver for my pc. I have upgraded(haha) from win8.1 to 10, not sure if this is part of the problem. This driver was released 7/15. I ran windows driver updater and it tells me the driver I have, the only one btw, is current. I have tried to contact both Acer and Intel and get no answers. Any help would be great as I have had problems gaming online.

there for I want to know if I can install a different bios to get advanced features?

A:Install custom BIOS in my Acer Aspire v5-571g

Most (all that I've seen) BIOS cannot be changed/modified to a different type. You can update if the PC vendor (in this case Acer) has any newer version, but that's about it. Keep in mind if you try to change it or install some other BIOS and it corrupts the BIOS on most Vendor PC's, a corrupted BIOS and the ONLY option is to replace the motherboard.

So here we go.
_______

My Computer Model: Acer Aspire 5630
My SD Card : Duracell 2GB SD Card
Current OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Previous OS: Windows Vista (Home Edition I think, but I don't think it matters much)
_______

My Problem: I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my computer a few days ago and I have encountered several problems; one being that my SD CardReader will not work. I believe it is because i don't have my CardReader driver installed, so I went out to get it.

Unfortunately, most of my drivers were built to be compatible with Vista and not 7. I was able to install my Audio driver, but my CardReader driver does something i did not expect. Instead of telling me that there is a compatibility issue, the InstallWizard finishes, and then prompts me to restart. After I restart, nothing has changed. My driver isn't listed in my Device Manager (not sure what it's SUPPOSED to look like to be honest), and the darn thing still won't read my SD card.
_______

The drivers I've tried installing so far are as follows:
-CardReader_ENE_3.00.00_Vistax86 (from the Acer Support site)

-CardReader_ENE_5.1.2600.2010_XPx86 (from the Acer Support site)

-Cardreader_Jmicro(JMB385)_1.00.12.07_Win7x86x64 (from SD card reader/Laptop, post #20 from computersplus)

-CardReader_O2_v3.31.02_Win7x86x64 (don't remember where I got this, but I believe it was for a new model of Acer Aspire with Windows 7)

-O2Micro Flash Memory Card Driver 3.00 (from SD card reader/Laptop, post #2 from Jimbo45)

-O2Micro Flash Memory Card Windows Driver V.1.9 (Stylebook H12Y CardReader) (from SD card reader/Laptop, post #10 from Jimbo45)
_______

All of those act somewhat the same after an attempt at installing the driver. I run the setup, and it looks like it's installing normally. It would prompt me to restart in order to complete installation. After restarting, I pop my SD Card in and nothing is read. Device Manager doesn't show anything different either.

The results also vary a little bit but end up the same. Some of them don't prompt a restart, but still nothing can be read, and the Device Manager doesn't have anything new.
_______

I think this was all i had to write XD. Thanks in advance.

I'll provide screenshots and all that jazz upon request.

Just install using the working vista driver in compatibility mode

(right click installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS)

Welcome to SevenForums,

Have you tried the native "Acer eRecovery Management" software (can be found in your programs list)?

This will restore back to default both VGA drivers.

A:win7 64bit clean install on acer aspire

A clean install might be the easiest, at this point. It is probably all the software already on the laptop that is causing this problem.

If you upload a msinfo32 report for us, we can find you the drivers you may need. Chances are, though, that your devices will work fine with the default Windows drivers.

Alrighty I ve got a complicated one Machine is a Acer Aspire not sure on the numbers - its a xx notebook running vista Home Prem SP Customers brought it in with the DVD drive not working was sent away to a repairers drive was replaced tested ok then sent back it was lost on the way back and took - to arrive but hey thats not the issue The customers brought the machine to me today saying that once again the drive Acer Aspire, problem Drive CD/DVD Odd isn t working - which I thought was odd but heres the deal When Windows is is booted normally the drive doesn t function at all No power no nothing if I run the microsoft fix it tool it says it can see that the drive isn t working properly or something but cannot fix it When the computer is booted into safe mode the drive functions normally - so you d assume a fault with windows but here s the twist The BIOS doesn t see the drive therefore you can t even boot from CD s - so how the hell would it work in safe mode I thought I d just do a restore on the computer anyway to see if I could get it Acer Aspire, Odd CD/DVD Drive problem function in normal mode called the customer asked them if it was OK to do a restore which was fine but booted into the Acer Aspire, Odd CD/DVD Drive problem Recovery mode and was then prompted to enter the quot empowering technoloy password quot - called the customer whats your password on the system recovery - customer what system recovery what password I looked on the net and found possibilities like quot acer quot quot recovery quot quot quot - nothing there works either so at this stage im very open to suggestion - the customers don t want to have their machine sent back again incase it gets lost again which of course is understandable nbsp
