I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I am having a bit of a complication with my recent format on my Compaq Presario 6025RSH. Recently due to a severe virus attack I was forced to do a reformat using XP pro. Naturally as we know drivers are missing. Now in Jan I had to do this same thing, and the driver problem was easily solved through the compaq support site. However this time around I have went to the site, and I can not seem to find the driver download any where. Once more this is in response to my missing ethernet controller. I have googled my issue and to my surprise I have found next to zip about my problem. Can any one help? Please? before I pull my hair out?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

I found all the drivers at the Gigabyte website for Windows 7 64 bit including the ethernet controller. If you have access to another machine you could copy any drivers you need onto a USB flash drive then copy them to your machine.

After computer crashed, I ran WinXP reinstall CD. Of course, I lost everything that was previously loaded. I'm going again but have no sound. In Device Manager under Other Devices, Ethernet Controller & Multimedia Audio Controller are yellow question marks. I have tried the Resource CD, Dell Support/Downloads, everything I can think of and nothing is working. I am connected to the internet through the USB because the tech says I need a new ethernet card and have to connect right now through the USB. I'm lost at this point. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

A:SM Bus Controller, Ethernet Controller, and Coprocessor Problems

Sorry couldn't figure out how to edit to avoid double posting*

I have solved 2 of the 3 issues after spending about 10 hours of my day on them. I have fixed both the Coprocessor as well as the Ethernet Controller issue. Turns out they were just being rolled back with the load last working settings along with the SM Bus Controller which was the only one really having a problem. Still though, after uninstalling reinstalling disabling and so on and so forth, the SM Bus Controller continues to be a thorn in my side. I have disabled it to get rid of the annoying pop up every time the computer restarts (I figured this is ok b/c according to the device manager the device is inactive anyway so why not?).

Thanks again for any help.

Assuming you are using the ethernet port on the motherboard (not a separate card) you need to get the manufacturer and model number from the mb itself and go to their site to get the drivers for that and the SM bus controller. You don't mention the brand/model of the mb in your post - Micro ATX is a size specification, not mfr.

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 4550. I have all the necessary CDs and put in the Dell Resource CD. It has a few drivers but none of them seem to fix the problem I'm having with "other devices" in "device manager." Under other devices, there are yellow question marks next to "Ethernet Controller" and "SM Bus Controller." I've gone to the Dell Web site to try to download drivers but I'm lost and not sure where to turn. The device status for both says: The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Device.

I have just re-installed Windows XP. After loading it I have opened the Device Manager and noticed that there is the dreaded "yellow questionmark" next to something called: Ethernet Controller.

I am running a Dell OptiPlex GX260.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Ethernet Controller

Hi there,

First I would right click and uninstall it and then right click on your computer name at the top and choose to add hardware. It may be able to install the ethernet controller at that point. If you have the CD that came with your computer that have drivers on it, then it may want that.

See this article: http://www.pcuser.com.au/pcuser/hs2.nsf/lookup+1/E8DD3BB2001C31D4CA256E95003048A6

You may have to go to Dell and download some drivers. If you can't do it on the computer in question, then you'll have to use another and then put the drivers onto CD....

I'm in the process of a clean install of XP Pro on a HP 725n. I had several conflicts in the device manager and was able to clear all except the "ethernet controller." I installed the chipset drivers (via km400) which cleared the "sm bus controller" issue, but cannot find the driver to clear this on-board ethernet issue. It was working before the clean install, and I have the dude bringing me the set of recovery disk that he made when the unit was new. Maybe I'll find the driver on one of these disk. I know that I can add an ethernet card to one of the empty pci slots, but really would like to fix the on-board one. This is the first time in a while that I've been "stumped," and would appreciate any help to salvage my ego and clear my mind.

Don't worry, it's a legit site, a lot of people use them for getting legacy/EOL'd computer drivers. I read somewhere they have the original restore discs available as well, which should, itself, contain every driver for the computer.

Hello. I am new to this forum.

I just reformatted my computer and installed Windows XP home edition. I actually partitioned my HD in 3, leaving 8 GB for the XP. The XP is updated to service pack 2.
After installation, I did not have Internet connectivity. I updated many drivers using a second computer and a pen drive, but I do not know how to run a xps file.

Some features of my computer are:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2C (with LAN)
Chipset: Intel Lakeport-G i945GC
Realtek RTL8139/810x Fast Ethernet Adapter (in PCI port #2)

In the device manager two items come under other devices (yellow question mark): ethernet controller and PCI Device.

Can somebody help trouble shoot? I tried installing a PCI install from Realtek, but had no luck.

First thing you can try is to remove/uninstall the Ethernet controller from Device Manager and reboot. On reboot Windows should redetect it and hopefully reinstall the drivers. If it doesn't then you'll need to download the driver and install them. If you need help with that we will need to know a lot more. For example the model number of the EVO, the make of the ethernet card if seperate, and the Windows version.

I have accidentally deleted some driver from my old laptop and now wi-fi doesn't work. It says Windows can't find Ethernet controller.

I have Vista running on Asus F5VL.

Will appreciate your help!

A:Need help with Ethernet Controller

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with a Yellow flag? Especially under Network Controllers? Right click it and Uninstall. Now Right click any device and choose Scan For Hardware Changes. It should come back with New Hardware Found and load the previous driver.
If it is still a yellow flag, on an Internet Computer, go to the Asus Support/Download drivers page Support Center | ASUS UK and type in your full model # from the sticker on the bottom. Choose your OS version (eg) Vista 32 bit or 64 bit and download the Wireless LAN Network Adapter driver for your model and save it to a USB Flash Drive and install it on the troubled computer. Download any other drivers you may need from the Device Manager.

So I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition on my dad's Dell Dimension desktop and for some reason, I can't get it connected to the Internet because whatever drivers I am installing are not working. When I go into the device manager the ethernet controller as well as my modem have the yellow question mark by it and I'm not sure why. I downloaded every Dell driver for my model from the website, and I haven't had any luck. Not even the local area network icons on the taskbar will come up at startup.

Hi, I just reinstalled XP on my computer and now I can't get online with it. I have tried to install the drivers for the ethernet, but it just wants to update, and i can't update. (don't have the CD the computer came with and no internet.) I have gone to the HP website, got the drivers, didn't work. Gone to VIA's (maker of the card) website, still doesn't work. I am about to pull my hair out. Can someone please help?

A:No Ethernet Controller

Hi:Let's see this:
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

Also,in the lan adapter driver section, tell us the driver description and location.
It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

And this :
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Make and model of pc ? After a re-install,this is normally a driver issue.

Have tried to find the manufacturer name with no luck. Can't use PC Wizard, it locks up my computer or shuts it down. Is there a way to find out the manufacturers name on these items so that I can install the drivers.

With all those devices without the correct drivers it sounds to me that the system has just been reformatted and reloaded.

Since this is a custom system you will have to open the system and get the motherboard ID number which is printed on it somewhere.
We know it is a Biostar but we need to know exactly which motherboard.
Did a motherboard cd come with the system?

I assume that the network card is integrated as well.

After searching for very long I found a forum where someone seemed to have the same problem. They were told to download a program called EVEREST.

I downloaded this program however I now have no idea what to do with it. Noone is answering me on that forum so I have come here for a release from the stress!

Please help if you think you can guys and gals

Appreciated,

A:Ethernet Controller

Everest is a program that shows all the components that make up your machine including the video card, audio, motherboard, what memory you have installed, in fact just about everything you need to know about your computer.

When you first bring up the program look down the left hand column then click on Network and that will tell you just what you have along with your IP address and what adaptor you are using with links to the manufacturers site.

Hope that helps you, if you need any more info just come back and someone will be able to help.

Hi all I recently screwed up my dell latitude model notebook to the point where I was ethernet controller non functioning told to reload windows xp pro I did this and found some devices were now not working In non functioning ethernet controller device manager they were listed with a yellow I went to dell site entered my tag got a printout of included devices and set out to add the drivers that were missing This was tedious for me non functioning ethernet controller but it worked and everything functions except the ethernet controller Nothing by that name is listed on the parts sheet from dell I have no idea how to determine what make it is so I can find a driver for it I do have a model and did the same look-up exercise for that machine to see if I could find similarities but almost all non functioning ethernet controller the items were from a different manufacturer When I go to device manager there are only blanks in the info boxes except for driver details where it gives a listing under driver details called quot device instance quot that is well beyond me Any help will be appreciated nbsp

A:Ethernet Controller Missing

I'd suggest downloading/installing the drivers for the Intel NIC (from the HP drivers site).

You don't tell us what is installed on this system...so I don't think you have a gigabit NIC. From what I see, that would be a PCI-e connection for that, while I suspect that you just have the normal onboard ethernet connection.

Unless you know for sure that you have a gigabit ethernet connection, you should not assume it where options are available.

I reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Dimension 4700. Everything worked well except that I can't get it to connect to the Internet. In the device manager, it shows the "other devices" with question marks. After trying a few things, I remembered that a new motherboard was installed on this machine. Does that effect the reinstall? Will I need different drivers from the ones on the CDs that came with the machine?

A:Ethernet Controller Problems

Yes, you need to install the motherboard chipset drivers for the motherboard that is currently installed.

Hi,

I've just installed win 7 professional on my Acer Aspire T130.
Everythings gone to plan apart from the ethernet controller is not functioning properly.

In device manager it reports the Ethernet Controller driver is non existent.
I have tried installing several different drivers but cannot get any to work.

I also get the error message reported "Device cannot start"

Any help is much appreciated.

A:Urgent help with ethernet controller

What's currently listed in the Device Manager in these headings?

Display Adapters

Network Adapters

Other Devices (if this entry exists)

Sound Video And Game Controllers

------------------------------------------------------

Here is the specifications site for it.

It appears it came with Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional pre-installed.

Hopefully, you've already maxed it out to 2 GB of RAM.

You should never upgrade or downgrade to a different Windows version without confirming that drivers exist for all of its devices.

Too many people learn this the hard way and are forced to revert back to its pre-installed version.

A:Solved: Ethernet controller

This depends on whether you are talking abou tan on-board ethernet controller or A PCI Network Interface. It will also depend on what version of windows you are using. So if you can give us information such as make and model of your system or Motherboard and the type of Network Adapter, and OS we could better help.

Do you have the NIC set to use DHCP in your TCP/IP settings? If one of them is connecting to the internet and the other computer is not open a command prompt on the one with connectivity by entering CMD and in the command prompt window type IPCONFIG /ALL. Do that on the non connecting PC and post the results here

If you meant Lenovo, have you checked the support section of the Lenovo web site?
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072730

You would need to see if they include installation instructions for the drivers.

Can anyone help me please....

A:ethernet controller driver

There was no system specs posted, but most systems require motherboard chipset drivers be installed BEFORE installing device drivers. The chipset drivers define all the devices on or attached to the motherboard and if they are not installed many devices will not install.

Sirs.. i hav a very terrible problem with my PC , i request immediate assistance.
i have dell optiplex GX280 and the Ethernet Controller in it is Broadcom NetXtreme 57XX Gigabit Controller
the mother board is Intel 915 G ...

Now the problem is that i was merging partitions of my hard drive.. so i lost the driver files, installed in partition D:\ ..
and the controller displayed the code 39 error :" the device cannot start because its drivers are missing or corrupt"

now when i tired to reinstall the drivers.. the device would not recognise them..
upon checking the Device manager after install , the code 39 error was still there..
so i cant quite decide what to do..

if u think there are any remains of the deleted files remaining , please do suggest a solution
i tried the Dell Website and even the Broadcom website for driver downloads.. but the situation remains the same .. please help!

Also, W1-D2RLV doesn't seem to be the model of your computer, what does the case say?

A:Ethernet controller problem

Have you tried going to the website of the mfr of who makes your computer such as dell, hp, lenovo, etc?in most cases it will say support then drivers and downloads listed for your model of computer. ethernet drivers are usually listed under network or communications.then you see if theres drivers listed for the operating system you have such as xp, vista, or windows 7.or have you gone to the device mgr and is there any yellow question marks? if so hit update drivers and sometimes it will find the driver for you. you might have to go on another computer to get the drivers if you have no internet connection at all.

When I start windows it brings up a window to install the driver for the Ethernet controller. And it brings another window saying to install a vga driver for my video card. That doesn’t make any sense, because I installed the driver for the video card w/ the ati cd for the video card. Please help…
