I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Check the settings for Autoplay in the Control Panel (at least Win/7 has it there).
"using XP Professional" may need a registry hack . . .

the last ram slot on my motherboard doesnt seem to work i got an asus cuv-nt board, i know its not the ram cause its all the same kind, any reasons for this?

Just a guess, it's physically broken? They're pretty easily damaged.

Hi, I got this new mobo and 2 sticks of ram wont work in the first two slots. The ram is brand new from OCZ. I have 8gb of the same type of ram, and only the last two slots seem to work. When I put all 4 in or just first 2 the computer wont show a picture. I know 8gb prob is to much for just cod/mmo, but its brand new and it doesnt work.

Is there a program that I can use to test the slots? Or maybe Im doing something wrong?

A:New mobo, but two slots of RAM won't work?

What operating system are you using ? That sometimes makes a difference.

Otherwise, it is not that unusual to get a board that has a non-working configuration. Return the board with an explanation, and most sellers will exchange without argument.

Hi guys,
i was wondering whether PC 5400 DDR2 ram works in a PC 5300 slot???

A:Does Pc5400 Ram Work In Pc5300 Slots?

Almost certainly. Some manufacturers round the clock speeds up, others round down for 667Mhz DDR2.

I had to put my DDR3 memory in for warranty due to errors and I don't have memory for my main PC and I am just wondering my old PC has DDR2 memory and I was just wondering if the would work in my Gigabyte X58A-UD3R board which has DDR3 slots?

Also I was wondering can Windows 7 64bit run will less than 4GB of memory (2GB to be exact)? Because I know that if you have over 4GB of memory u need 64bit to enable all of it, but with less will it work?

A:Solved: DDR2 work in DDR3 slots?

I don't think you can because DDR2 and DDR3 uses different slow configuration. I think ddr2 has the little cut out in the middle and ddr3 has it slight forward but i'm not totally sure

I ran across a old dell computer in a yard sale. It is a Dell 340 workstation.
I was hoping to rob it of some 2700 memory partsfor another pentium 4 dell
but after I got it home I found that it has PC800 memory parts. I guess I bought
the wrong machine here but that is what happens when you take a chance
at yard sales. When was these memory parts produced? This dell is a four slot machine
which only shows slots 1 & 2 working when I have all 4 slots full of menory. Does anyone know the history of this machine and this memory type? Does anyone know how to get all four of my memory chips working in this machine?
Thank you,

I recently updated my computer from windows 8 to 8.1 to 10. I believe but am not positive that the web cam was working before the updates. I have never really needed to use it until now. I was told I need to update the drivers for it. I have looked and checked and tried some of the helpful posts but none of it works. I do have cyberlink you cam on my computer but it says that the camera is not installed or connected. I have looked in the drivers and such and don't even see anything that looks like it is connected to the camera. Plus I don't even know where to find the drivers and I have already searched the hp website and when it checks to see what my device is it pulls up a printer.

Hi, i see there are some posts about built-in apps not working, but everything ends in the question about if creating a new user solves the problem.
Well, yes, it does.
Question is if there's any way to avoid this beside the a-b-c (sfc, powershell) and if there's not how to import all my settings and files to my new profile.

A:Custom built PC will this work?

1 GB for 9800GT is stupid. Get a 512MB GTS250 or Radeon 4850 for about the same price, they're quite a lot better performers. Radeon 4870 even, they're pretty cheap for the performance they offer.
IDE DVD drive is not really a good choice, rather go SATA. Pioneer, LG, Sony, Samsung and Lite-On have good drives, performance*quality/price-wise.
Also, don't get a generic HDD. Samsung has nice affordable drives with 3-5 year warranty. WD and Seagate usually have a little bit better quality, but anyhow. Seagate has some problems with their recent 500-750GB models, maybe 1 TB too.

A sound card wouldn't really be needed, but it's always a good thing to have if you really need the best sound you can get.
Can't say anything about those TV and wireless cards, I guess they'll do their jobs.

Then the to real thing. Socket 775 is dead. AM2+/AM3 isn't.
I would go with Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P and AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE. Better quality motherboard, faster CPU in most cases, mutli-core support is coming up in games, etc... Hmh.

You could down the PSU to a 650TX.
All in all, something like this:
Mobo: (not UD4P, but 90% as good for anything. OC potential might be a little less)
RAM: (cheaper than the old versions you had chosen, as fast, lower voltage need, all in all, better in all ways)
HDD: (just an example)
Sound card, I'd say this will do. Sounded good in games when I listened at it at my friend's place. Or if you want the Xtreme gamer:
PSU: OR if you want the room for upgrades,
Case, couldn't find Sagitta 2 from, here's another decent case:

hello all,

apparently it is a known issue with hp that their built-in mics don't always work properly with windows 7. how lucky for me, because currently i am running a g60-635dx with windows 7. it has a built-in webcam and mic; the webcam records video just fine, but the mic isn't picking up any sound. i tried it with the sound recorder, skype and webcam. then i tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it using the link on the hp website here, but no dice. any suggestions? there's no way i'm paying hp remote support $49.95 to fix this!

thanks in advance!

Have tried firmware update, the USELESS Windows 7 Troubleshooter, and reinstalling drivers. Still no audio, and sometimes no video, saying "There is No Camera Connected to this Computer"

Had the exact same problem with Logitech C600. Any ideas?

I went to device manager & poked around but didn't find the microphone (not even sure if I know what I am looking for if it only gives off a strange number.) but I guessed in the sound, videoand game controllers (just 2 high def audio devices which show not errors).. But poked into other ones too.

So how do I start figuring out the problem?

I purchased the Dell Precision T3500 from A few months later my built in speakers won't. It says my speakers aren't plugged in, but why would it need to connect if they are built in speakers not external speakers. This has been going now for 5 months or so. I've been using my headphones for sound (because that is the only way I can get sound).  Thanks I hope I can get help soon.

A:My Built In Speakers Won't Work?!

You might need to check the connection between the motherboard and the speaker inside the machine if its connected then you're using generic Microsoft audio drivers witch usually don't like internal speakers and only work with headphones. if this is the case install drivers from here:

The first thing I notice is you do not have the driver for the sound chip in the PC. You only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed "High Definition Audio Codec". Although that may or may not fix your problem, the first step is to get the correct sound driver.

Check with ASUS for the correct driver. I can't be sure as they do not list the exact model you list, but the 510L that I looked at listed RealTek for the sound drivers.

If you can see an error for "imaging device" in Device Manager, try re-installing the driver from the laptop maker's website.

If there is no error in Device Manager, and your webcam is not listed there, that's usually a sign that the webcam itself is faulty so Windows cannot detect it - effectively it doesn't exist any more.

A easy remedy is to buy an external webcam (Logitech, Microsoft or Creative). don't buy a cheap brand with an obscure name as it will not last long.

mobo Gigabyte XA-UD cpu phenom x psu corsair enthusiast W cpu fans stock and arctic cooler pro Basically neither the stock fan nor the aftermarket fan spin at all when I start the pc up Seeing as neither worked to get newly cpu work. built fans cannot pc, when connected to the cpu fan socket I tried connecting them to the system fan socket This worked for the newly built pc, cannot get cpu fans to work. stock cooler as it span seemingly normally for the or so seconds i tested it for however this made no difference to the arctic pro i would probably just settle with the stock cooler being connected to the system newly built pc, cannot get cpu fans to work. fan for the time being but the cable does not reach the socket when properly mounted on the cpu Although even at that it would still be and unsatisfactory makeshift fix I ve tried going into the bios and disabling the smart fan utility and changing the setting so that they run constantly regardless of cpu temp but again it had no effect The straightforward answer here is that I have in my possession two dud fans but I find it highly unlikely especially seeing as the arctic pro spins for about one revolution immediatley after i power on before stopping has it something to do with my psu some kind of connection voltage problem thoughts I should also mention that the psu is connected to the mobo via a pin connections and a v at -pin connection on the surface no compatibility issues or anything although i do find it peculiar that the bottom pins are all rounded whilst on the mobo socket only two of them are rounded with the other two square p s I have no means to test either of them on another pc atm nbsp

A:newly built pc, cannot get cpu fans to work.

It is not going to work correctly when connected to a system fan header. Many bios need to detect a running cpu fan and it is not going to detect anything when connected to a system fan header.

My first guess is that you have a defective mb. That is an amd3+ board and they are cutting edge tech. I assume you have not forced the connector ON since it is made to go on only one way.

My friend has an Asus laptop and he had some problems with his keyboard. So he sent it to Asus for repairs and what he got back was a perfectly fine laptop with an erased disk drive. So he had Windows 8.1 re-installed but one of the things he noticed was that his One drive application which is built-into windows 8.1 did not sync. The application would not run and the folder at file explorer would not give him the option to sync. He tried to run the application but every time he tried it showed up for a split second in task-manager and disappear. And since it's an built-into-windows feature we cannot get it re-installed without refreshing his pc and deleting all his applications for the second time. So we were looking for a way to re-instal or repair One drive without having to refresh or re-install windows.

Thanks for helping,
Sebas and Martijn

A:Built in webcam doesn't work.

provided the webcam is not faulty, when it's driver is missing you should see a red or yellow error mark in Device Manager against "Unknown Device" or "Imaging Device". If there are no error marks, that's bad news as it means the webcam isn't even being detected, so it could be broken internally.

As regards laptop drivers, I always direct people to the laptop manufacturer's support website since they can be trusted to provide the correct drivers. Unfortunately CMS/ZooStorm customer support for existing ZooStorm owners is practically non-existent. I can find no driver-download page on their website. All they seem interested in is selling new computers.

I'm been trying to make skype video calls but it says my camera is not connected. Every time I open the software ArcSoft Webcam Campanion 2 to see if my camera is connected. I tried to go into setup or BIOS to enable the camera but the camera is not even listed on the components. Please I would appreciate your help. Thanks

Hello To provide some background information I will explain what happened to cause the problem in the first place I was on vacation with my parents it s their computer by the way and prior to that we took out all the plugs of the computers just in case When we came back all that was done was re-plug the computer and then we tried booting it It turned on but the display didn t work After some fooling around it was identified that RAM was the issue because when I took out a single stick it suddenly showed video again However the next boot it didn t so I with though and won't slots boot work Computer RAM, sticks sticks 2 both took the other stick and tried it but it Computer won't boot with 2 sticks RAM, though both sticks and slots work didn t work so I put it in the other port and then it did work Long story short I have tried both RAM sticks together doesn t work Tried them individually and they both work SOMETIMES Sometimes one of them works in one port then it works in the other then it doesn t and the other stick has to be in one port then the other It seems completely random and I haven t been able to identify any other issue I m not entirely sure if I m in the right section of the Forums but since I restarted the PC about a hundred times it seems like I am Any help would be greatly appreciated Marty Edit Realised I forgot to mention that the motherboard is an ASUS M N SE and the RAM are x GB DDR Fatal ty OCZ nbsp

What were you doing before all of this happened? What kind of third party Security software are you using ? Have you tried the Dism fix yet.

You will find that very few people even use the packaged apps from Microsoft, because they were not very well thought out to begin with and can be broken by just simple changes on the OS install.

A:Windows 10 built in apps not work but tried to reinstall it but all..

You have a typo.
Read your copy/paste message.
PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> et-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocatio

You missed out the letter G in Get.
That's why it : The term 'et-AppXPackage' is not recognized
If you redo the Powershell command, it might turn out ok.
Always have the habit of using copy/paste method to avoid typo.

Everything I find for that particular model is in Japanese, VGN-NR72B | ????????? | ??????? | VAIO | ????? If your understanding of Japanese is as good as mine I suggest trying similar model numbers ie. Sony eSupport - VGN-NR110E - Software Updates & Drivers and seeing if the card reader download will work for you.

Hey guys.

I hope you could help me with that but my precious in-built micro started failing appr. a week ago. As I am speaking with someone, I am able to hear him very clearly, but he unfortunately does not hear me at all!

I went to sound properties as I read many articles how to fix this problem, installed the new sound driver, enabled it etc., actually I tried almost everything, but it is still not working. The sound driver is visible and updated on my lap, but it does not allocate any sound vibration!

Can you help me with that problem? Did anyone of you suffered the same??

Thank you in advance!!

A:In-built micro of Portege R & Windows 7 does not work

Hi Goldie,

Right clicking on the speaker in the taskbar, going to recording devices, make sure you have only got one microphone option there would be the first step, if you have got more than 1, try right clicking them and 'setting as default' for each of them seeing if that works.

Hope this helps,

Did you install a floppy drive? That would enable you to do a basic test with the hard drive disconnected and a boot to a floppy disc.
The pop/crackle could just be the monitor receiving power.

A:Built new computer, normal fans work, but CPU fan doesn't spin, board wont power

Sounds like a power supply problem, or a error in connecting a cable. Thus the shot spin of the cpu fan. But usually you just missed something too obvious to think about.
Reseat all cables. Reseat all memory modules. Then try it with one or two memory modules at a time. Then switch to the others.
Check your CPU for proper seating, and possible bent pin.
When no longer frustrated, think through everything you have done in the setup, even the heat sink and thermal paste.
We have all gone through this. We know has exasperated you must feel.

Hi all

Looking for some information. I'm replacing 3 pc's in the business I work for. We use custom software and have to remain on Windows xp to avoid issues with the database hooking correctly. We have used mostly Dell pc's to run our software, and from time to time need to reinstall Windows as needed. With the Dell systems, I wipe the partition and insert a disk, reinstall, add drivers plus our software, then I'm done. I'm considering building 3 new pc's maybe around the i5 level for workstations. I was curious if there was a way to build in the Windows XP serial number like Dell and other vendors do. Is this a specific type of main board ? A function in the bios ? I would love to be able to duplicate this, if it's possible.

Thank you

A:Windows install / vendor built vs homebrew / built in serial

You can not use the same serial number for a different computer. Its illegal. You'll need to buy a copy of Windows XP for each computer or buy a Set copy that will work on 3 different computers.

I'm seriously concidering purchasing a GeForce 6600 GT. Just one issue: I cant tell whether I have PCI-E slots in my computer. Is there a way I can see without having to crack open my computer?

A:PCI-E Slots

Try using a system diagnostic utility such as EVEREST or SiSoft Sandra. Both will say somewhere whether or not, and at the very least they will give you the model number of your motherboard which you can look up to find out if it has PCI-E or not.

I have a K7VZA v3.2e 07/19/2001 motherboard. I just bought a Asylum Ti4200 SE 128M video card. It requries a AGP 2.0 4x's slot. I don't know if I have one, but it fits and works. However, When I boot up, it only recognizes my video card as a 32Mb card. I set my Apeture to 128. It also does fast writing. What would that be called on my Award Bios?

A:AGP Slots

You may want to try to update the bios:

What does it say in windows?

Your slot is 4x, the fast writing will be called that - look for it thru all the menus - a bios update may even add that.

lastly check that you actually got what you wanted - mistakes happen.

My brother brought home a computer that his college was going to trash, and there's no model printed anywhere on it.

What slots are those available?

A:What slots are these?

If you get out your flashlight and glasses, you certainly should be able to see a manufacturer's name somewhere on that motherboard.

From left to right, those slots look like PCI Express x 16, PCI Express x 1, conventional PCI, conventional PCI.

This is not a problem, just a search for enlightenment.

Are there any rules regarding the positioning of cards or is it just a case of trial and error?

Can PCI slots go bad? I had trouble with my sound card but after installing it in another pci slot it worked fine. I had trouble with my modem. I installed it in the same pci slot as my sound card and now it works fine. I have three pci slots available and before going any further I was just curious if pci slots can go bad, or is this just another Windows problem? If anyone knows please post a reply. Thanks!

Hey all,

What is generally considered better and why?

I'm considering a RAM upgrade to 16GB for my Asus Maximus Hero VI motherboard. It has 4 memory slots for dual channel. My local supplier only has the memory I want in 2x4GB modules. If I purchase 2 kits to make up the 16GB is this less preferable to rather waiting for a 2x8 kit to be ordered. Is there any disadvantage to using all 4 slots as opposed to 2? I will be over clocking using the standard XMP profile only.

Future upgrading is not a concern as I will not likely need to move beyond 16GB for the life of this build.

A:RAM 4 slots or 2?

In reality, it doesn't matter. Either one will net almost exactly the same performance.

However, if you want to get technical, if it's only dual channel, then you will get better performance using only 2 slots with 8GB in each. The more chips and slots that you use, the longer it takes to find the piece of data it needs. It's not going to be anything you actually can notice, but if you ran a benchmark you'd see a slightly better score with just 2 as 4 chips is slightly more taxing for the cpu.

4 slots used looks better than 2 though. If you care about aesthetics.

Ok, I know there are different AGP Slots out there, and every one I've seen up untill today has a key slot on it

but today I recieved a board with a slot ive never seen before, it has no key!

what slot is this, and since its old (not supprised if someone says AGP 1x) will it run one of todays newer Vid cards?(not top o' the line, but a good one)

Q: slots

could someone send a pic of a pci-e x16, pci-ex1 and pci slots? thanks

A Picture is worth a Thousand Words...Hmmm

I"m going to try to get it done in a couple hundred. You really don't need a picture. All these sockets point to the expansion slots in the back of the cabinet. They're all parallel to one another.
1. The PCI sockets are WHITE. about three inches long.
2. The PCI-E x 16 sockets are identical but they're BLACK, and they REVERSED in the board. (you'll see the anti-reversal bridge at the opposite end about 1 inch from the end. You can actually insert a PCI card into the PCI-E x 16 socket but the connectors will point toward the inside of the case. Not good.

3. The PCI-E x 1 sockets are also BLACK but only about 1 inch long.
Unless your computer has Add-in sound, Video, and Modem cards, most of these sockets will be empty.

If you simply must insist on a picture (or diagram) simply download the Motherboard manual from the manufacturer's web site.

I have a MS7308et Matsonic motherboard with on-board video,lan,sound.
For some reason I cant get my pci slots to read my new nic card, wether I put the card in any of the 3 slots or use another nic card the pc does not detect any cards. Has this happened to anyone, is it possible for your motherboards pci slots to go out??

Not that we can get away from MBs with pci x1 slots I do wonder how useful are they. Well maybe so far for TVtuner but I dont need these.

Are these more of the small riser slots that have come and gone??

I have bought a 4Gb RAM card to upgrade my HP 250 G4 Notebook to 8Gb RAM, because it is very slow.I read in the HP literature that 2x 4Gb was a valid combination for this model, so based on that I assumed there was at least 2 slots. However when I opened up the machine I can only see the one slot. Can you please confirm whether it is possible to upgrade the RAM with an additional card; or do Ihave to purchase a single 8Gb card to replace the one that came with the laptop ?

A:How many RAM slots in the HP 250 G4 ?

Hi, Firstly you only read half of the story. HP 250 G4 is a series of MANY models/products and there are few options for RAM: MEMORYStandardDDR3L - 1600 (Transfer rates up to 1600 MT/s)Dual channel support (Intel® CoreTM i5 and i3 processors & Broadwell Pentium 3825U)Single channel support (Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700 )NOTE: Memory is non customer accessible / upgradeable2048 MB (2048 MB x 1)4096 MB (2048 MB x 2) (not applicable for Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700)4096 MB (4096 MB x 1)6144 MB (2048 MB x 1 + 4096 MB x 1) (not applicable for Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700)8192 MB (4096 MB x 2) (not applicable for Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700)8192 MB (8192 MB x 1)MaximumUp to 8 GB Secondary, your machine runs Windows 10 32 bit, 8GB won't help because 32bit OS won't access more than 4GB. And thirdly:  Memory is non customer accessible / upgradeable Regards.

Is there any impact on the performance of a laptop under the following scenarios:

1) 6GB of toal RAM - 2GB in one slot and 4GB in another slot
2) 8GB of toal RAM - 4GB in one slot and 4GB in another slot.

(ofcourse 8GB is larger than 6GB ........... but ......... I cannot recall where exactly I read about accessing times of the CPU on symmetrically placed RAM modules and un-symmetrically placed ones - equal RAM in dual channel v/s unequal RAM in dual channel)

Any thoughts - if someone has a deeper understanding on this?

A:RAM slots

The 8 GB configuration would likely run in dual channel mode.

I'm not so sure about the 6 GB configuration.

But dual channel is not a major deal. The impact is minor.

I just put together a computer of my own using common household parts (OK, whatever I found laying around the house) and the motherboard I used was an old thing. Anyway, I've been trying to get an NVidia Riva TNT 16mb PCI graphics card to work, but every time I installed the drivers for it, it would totaly dork up my computer.

Eventually I noticed that the graphics cards requires a 2.1 PCI slot and my computer is only 2.0 PCI.

So, my question is, how can I update my computer (without buying a completely new motherboard) to 2.1 PCI slots, instead of 2.0 PCI slots?

Thanks for your help guys!

A:PCI slots 2.0, need to be 2.1

You can't.

You need a new motherboard.

I have used all of my PCI Slots. Is there anything I can to do to be able to use more cards or am I sol... THanks

A:PCI slots

There might be an expander card that would allow you to double up, I'm not sure. Even if there is there is probably not enough physical space to do that. Maybe a "breakout" box? I'd check ask your local computer store and see.

Have you tried using your USB connection? This would probably be a better solution.

Good luck
