I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Compaq Presario SR5710Y with AMD Athalon x2 4450e dual core processors, 3gb memory and 350gb hard drive. My CD-DVD burner is (this is what it says in device manager)
ATAPI DVD A DH16A6L-C SCSI cd rom device.
I have been burning my dvds with convert x to dvd with no problems up until this . Every time I go to burn a DVD it will convert but when it burns it is taking so long (I usually burn at 6x) I did a speed test and it said it was burning at .05%. It would probably take 5 hours to burn a normal movie,Anyone know why this may be happening? Thanks in advance

If you are converting to a format readable by a dvd player they burner will burn very slowly depending on the source file. Now does you cpu max out when burning?

Hi, I have a hp pavilliondv5000 with windows XP. Out of nowhere, my cd/dvd drive stopped working. I wrote for help on the site and received it- now I can play cd's, dvd's and load programs, but my cd burning applications do not recognize the drive. Both itunes and sonic say there is no disk drive. I have reinstalled both programs as well as the cd drive- I dont know what else to do- thanks for your help!

There is a possibility the aspi layer is not installed properly. The aspi layer helps software read the drives hard and optical. In the download there is a aspi check file as well as the aspi drivers you can use this to check if your current installation is good.

I recently had a problem where my cd burner would not burn after completing 5% (using nero) , after much mucking about i bit the bullet and bought a new writer (lite- on), problem fixed, it was great, i emphasis the word 'was', it is now doing the exact same thing, burning until it reaches 5% and then just waiting for around 15minutes before delivering a lovely 'failed ' message.
please help!

Eek. That's bad . When that happened to me, it turned out my cd drive had died, and I had to send it in to get it fixed!

Your cd drive may very well be dieing. Hopefully, it may just be that the lens on the cd drive needs cleaning. If you are not under warrenty, you mght try that. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you. It stinks, I know!

I searched the forums for a while and couldn't find a solution for my problem, so I figured it was time to register and ask for myself... Anyway:

I have an older HP Pavillion a1250n with an HP DVD Writer 740b drive.

The drive itself can read CD-ROM and Audio CD's, but cannot seem to read DVDs or write anything at all.

I have tried a few things to far to solve the problem to no avail:

Reinstalled Roxio burning software
Upgraded to Roxio Creator 2011
Updated drive firmware
Ran Microsoft MATS_Run.DVD. (This program told me that this device is not capable of writing, but I have used it many times in the past.)

I appreciate any suggestions you guys have. Thanks!

Also, the second DVD read only drive that I have on the machine reads DVDs just fine.

Recently, it has come to my attention that my computers CD burner is no longer functioning. The other day I was trying to burn some pictures to give to a friend, and it would go through the process, but then at the end it would say that there had been a problem, and the program needed to close. The result is a ruined CD-R, and no files burned anywhere.

This is beginning to become a problem, as I used to use it to regularly back up word onto CD-RW's and would like to do so again.

This problem persists as well on burning music, or anything for that matter, and I'm out of ideas.
Please, if anyone knows anything about this, tell me, and I'll get you whatever statistics, logs, or anything needed to diagnose this.

I heard from a friend that there is a possible way to burn CDs without paying about $100+ for a CD burner. I've found programs over CNet about it, but all they do is give me popups. Is there a working program that does this? Thanks.

A:Burning CDs without a burner..

Sorry you do need a burner to burn cd disks. Disks are burnt with a lazer beam. Anyone trying to sell you something that they claim will do it is running a scam. You can get a burner for a lot less than $100. I don't know where you are located but if you are in the US check the link below. They have burners from $30 up.

I searched for this topic and there was none this specific.

I am burning video, audio, and picture files into CD-R, but all i am getting is errors stating: "This CD may no longer be usable..." I don't agree with that statement at all considering all other, similar, files were somehow burned onto a CD-R but this one is not working. I don't understand why.

I thought it might be one cd, so i switched to a different one, and same problem. I have tried at least 10+ cd trying to burn files but it's not working and i am getting same error message. I even tried burning different files from different folder (vids, photos, and audio files) and it worked, but not this one.

Can someone please help me? I am just so frustrated right now and i don't know what to do.

Thank you!

A:CD burner not burning files.....

This sounds like a hardware issue. Have you tried going to the CD drive manufacturers website to see if there's a firmware update? If there is one, install it. If not, you might need to replace the drive. I had one doing similar stuff a while back and ended up replacing it. CD/DVD burners are cheap these days. Being this close to Christmas, you can probably get a steal of a deal.

I will soon be buying my first DVD burner.

one of the things i plan on doing with it is making copies of some of my collection to be played on a normal TV DVD player (as well as my portable one). I understand i need software for this and was wondering what some of the more recommended ones are. And if there are any free ones that are worth it (other than free trials). I would prefer one that also burns CDs (im not sure if they all do or not) and works will all formats. My biggest concern though, is that whatever i burn will play on a TV DVD player.

P.S. If anyone has any feedback on my burner that would be helpful (for or against), it too would be appreciated.

I want to burn jpg images (and mp3 files) to see and hear on a dvd player which says it plays those. What is a good burner to buy to do this?

A:Buy what burner for jpg burning to see on dvd player?

Get Nero-
To view pictures on your dvd player you need to burn a VCD (video cd);
then you can flip through pictures on your dvd player like a slideshow.
To listen to music through dvd player: create an audio cd or a mp3 cd - your dvd player will be able to play these.

Nero will be able to create all of these for you.

you need a cd or dvd burner on your pc of course; just about any cd or dvd burner can make audio / VCD cds.

Hi guys,
I have an Asus DRW-1608P2 DVD-RW.
When I erase a DVD, it doesn't stop burning at all, even so the DVD is after 17 minutes earased. I can't stop the process with the taskmanager. Even I stopped the task, the DVD-RW light is still burning and I can't open the drive. I have to reboot.
When I burn a DVD it finishes "successfully" after 67 minutes! But when I abort the process after the regulary time of about 17 minutes nero shows me that at that time about 30% finished but on the DVD is already 100% copied.
First I thought it might be a technical problem with the rewriter, so I checked it at my second computer but it worked fine there.

A:CD/DVD burner burning bunk discs!

Easy enough to see if the disk burnt - turn it over (recording side) and see if there is a darker area than the normal dye colour spiralling out from the centre of the disk. That will tell you if the DVD burner actually performed a burn. You said they don't play correctly - do they play at all (and on what equipment)?

Sometimes I receive an dialog box that reads "Cannot find burner on this computer". Sometimes it goes through the complete burning process, but when I listen to the burned CD, only 3 songs were burned. Sometimes It Burns 6 songs and that is all, it's a different amount of songs all the time. The Burner is in my computer and I have had the Computer for 2 years now, and have successfully burned about 25 cd's until now. I have an E machine with Window's XP. Do I need to have a new Burner installed? or Do I just need to do a system restore of something like that. Thank you.

A:Solved: CD Burner not Burning Correctly

Good Morning cookieman, music files off the net often contain nasty surprises, before you get too involved in other things try this routine.
Visit the smartcop site and obtain their free A/V
Create a folder C:\Smartcop on your drive and download and unpack the file there.
Disable your present monitoring A/V, (usually rightclicking the icon near the clock will allow disableing it) then run the smartcop by doubleclicking it's black icon. (It may be easier to place a shortcut on your desktop)
Ensure you note any problems and particulars detected by the smartcop scan, most will be in temp files so can be deleted.

After completing this scan re-run it again except this time ensure the normal A/V is in monitor mode and set deepest. (if it has any settings ability)
The smartcop scan appears to make viral things visible to the monitor so it produces "hits" as well usually.
Running these programs in "safemode" also usually produces more "hits".

If your machine has been affected it is likely you will be unable to address some viral detections.
Let us know how you go.
I have seen previous problems like yours involving this kind of problem.
Worth a try..
Others will have different ideas.
Cheers, qldit.

When I burn a 3.5GB RAR File using Win7's built-in burner, it's always getting "stuck" at random parts of the process. Sometimes, it gets stuck at the middle of the process, sometimes towards the end, and etc. When it gets stuck, you will see that the rate (KB/s) will not vary and it is constant. I use a LG Hitachi GBW-T10N Bluray Combo Drive with my laptop and it has the latest firmware UN09. Why is this so?

By the way, this doesn't happen when I burn using ImgBurn. Please help. Thanks.

A:Burning with Windows 7 x64 Built-in Burner Issues

If you are using the "mastered" mode with Win 7 burning that could be the problem as according to the Help File it can take up to double the disc space for the burning and if you have a 3.5GB file and burn it to a DVD it would exceed the capacity of the DVD.

I dont know what the deal is but if I pop in a blank DVD or CD that is one of the darker colored ones the PC acts like there is nothing there. My burning software spits the disc back out and request a blank DVD.

As soon as I put a light colored or silver disk in it works fine.

Is there anything I can do about it? I just bought a 10 pk of blank DVDs and they are all dark........

The drive is an NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A and supports several different flavors of DVD media.

A:DVD Burner not burning dark colored disks

DVD recorders can be fussy as to media type. As you have now found.

Usually nothing can be done, it's all to do with the laser wavelength and power, vs the reflectivity of the DVD media dye.

I currently use WinDVD Creater 4 to make my DVDs. I usually have around 1-2 hours of video on the dvd's I create. In WinDVD creator it seems that it has to "Make the movie" by playing it in the little screen, while it really slowly progresses. It takes about 2 hours to make the movie in that damned program. Is there any programs that can make the movie without having to wait so freaking long?

This question has nothing to do with my dvd burner speed, just the program and how long it takes to create the dvd in the program.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Prior to this i had no problems burning, i think i might have deleted something important when i was cleaning my computer.

I have tried to fix it by repairing itunes in the "add/remove program" control.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the actual DVD/CD drive, it seems to be installed fine.

Please note that while working on a HJT log with a member of our HJT team, it is strongly advised to NOT make any changes to your system, as this will complicate things for our HJT team members making it more difficult to help you rid your computer of malware. It is also unadvised that you make any changes to your system (installing/removing anything) unless told to by the person(s) working your HJT log. Basically, I want to use my usb flash drive or daemon tools to burn music and then rip into lossless formats. A:usb flash drive OR a daemon tools virtual drive to use as a cd burner.

Hi Pheonix220. Welcome .

Daemon Tools is a disk emulator, which means that it will create 'images' or ISOs from a CD or other source and can then "mount" it so that it appears to be a physical drive on your system.

I'm not sure exactly what your goal is, but I find it unlikely that Daemon Tools will be of use unless you want to creae ISOs of music for mounting and playing?

If you are more specific about what your needs are, perhaps we can be more helpful.

When I use DVD Flick Burning files mpg files or Nero burning audio cd from mp3s.
Does it matter whether I burn from source hard drive or flash drive ?

Is it better to copy files to hard drive first before burning ?
Is it less chance of getting errors ? Or doesn't make any difference ?

Since flash drive doesn't have any parts to wear out.
Is it better to use flash drive as source or it doesn't make any difference to wearing of the hard drive ? I think it still wears out hard drive in any case regardless what source you from, but does it make any difference ?

A:Burning files from hard drive or flash drive ?

It makes no difference. You can use either method. Flash drives can transfer the data to the cache and DVD drive fast enough to avoid any buffer underrun errors.

If you're worried about getting errors, just drop the burning speed down a notch from maximum.

A dvd burner/drive on one of my pc's has gone cranky. When I put a blank disk in I get the message E:\ is not accessable, incorrect function. It recognises pukka dvds/cds but if I format them it gives me the message. Also says please insert a disc in the drive if I click on it. When I look at properties of the formatted cd/dvd it's coloured indicating the disk is full and there's no space left. Any ideas?

A:dvd burner/drive

It sounds like the drive doesn't like the media you're using. Have you tried another brand? If not, try some Verbatim blanks. They are liked by most drives.............
Also, you can try re-installing / installing Nero. Nero and Roxio software installs drivers for most drives, during installation.
Good luck!
Also, check here for similar problem and fix..............

If i'm not going to be burning anything, just installing games. Can I just get a DVD rom Drive since they are cheaper? Or is it better to have the DVD burner since it has higher speeds (16x vs 20x speeds) or does that not matter when it comes to what I'm doing?

A:DVD drive Vs DVD burner?

Read speeds are about the same or a bit higher with DVD-ROM drives. It varies a little from drive to drive. 20X is a write speed which doesn't apply since you won't be burning anything. CDs and DVDs are one way to back up data but if you have no need for burning CDs or DVDs, then go ahead and get the DVD-ROM drive. You won't be losing speed.

I am believing this is a hardware issue?
Again I am running xp:
These 2 drives read & play what is on the cd's, all works well that way- I can even use eject from the pull down menu and the drives will open,
PROBLEM is: when there is actually a cd in the drives they will not eject the cd's?

All worked OK previously probably for the last 5 months, none of this was even an issue?
Any ideas that could help me, Please !
Thanks in Advance

A:Dvd Rom Drive & Cdrw Burner Drive

Nothing like answering your own question, but maybe it could help someone else experienceing the same.
I updated xp, the problem with the drives not ejecting with cd's in them stopped, all worked well / UNTIL I re-connected the Iomega Zip Drive USB . When this was re-connected the RW Drive and DVD drives would not eject again.
I uninstalled zip drivers, Re-installed, and from a friends suggestion I switched my usb printer and usb zip plug ins.

I've just bought a Windows7 Netbook and would like to re-use an old desktop IDE DVD Burner, as it seems to be a waste to buy a new one if I can convert it to USB.

I've bought an IDE to USB converter (VE328 from USBNow) which appears to work. The drive is detected but only works as a DVD read only drive. The Drive Unit is an Iomega 8x4x32 and shows up in the Device Manager as IOMEGA ZIPCD1024INT-A USB Device.

Does anyone know why this is not being seen by the system as a burner?

Deleting the upper/lower filters in the registry usually solves the problem, although you may need to reinstall your cakewalk software again and any other burning software.

I just bought this blu-ray drive a week or two ago: - LITE-ON Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 8X BD-ROM 8MB Cache SATA Internal Blu-ray Burner 12X Blu-ray Burner with Blu-ray 3D feature Model iHBS112 - Blu-Ray Burners

I havent tried any blu-rays yet, but today I tried backing up a P90x dvd & this is what happened.

The dvd would play automatically at first when I closed the tray.

Seemed to work fine.

Then I tried DVD shrink to back it up & it kept giving me errors/freezing

Then the dvd wouldnt play at all, not when I closed the tray, not when I restarted the comptuer or tried another dvd or tried doubling clicking the drive in computer?

A:Having an issue with my new Blu-ray drive/burner

What about music CDs,data CDs and divX Video CDs (if you have)? Are they playing OK? Can you borrow a Blu-ray disc and see whether it plays?. All these only to quench my curiosity. (Incidentally I have the same stuff - may be two or three months old now, bought from ebay USA from India and no probs so far)

In any case, since it is new and shouldn't give any such troubles, why not return it to Newegg without losing any further time if their return policy permits or seek warranty support?

Ok, I know this problem has been posted before by someone else on here. I have a Compaq Presario SR1403WM. The DVD/CD Drive is not being recognized by my computer, but it will open and close and it will make the sound as if it is trying to read a disc. Here is a pic of my device manager. ]As you can see there is no CD/DVD Drive. . . And on another site someone suggested that I delete the upper and lower filters in the Registry. So, I went to the registry editor and I didn't even have any filters... If there is anything else you need to see or anymore info. Just let me know. It would really nice though to be able to burn CD's again. . . Oh, and I have put another drive in the computer and it does the same exact thing. . . Thnx in advance.

A:Cd Burner/dvd Rom Drive Problem

That sounds like a faulty IDE Controller. I'm sorry to say but there is not much you can do. Try using the CD-ROM on the Other IDE Controller at the same time as the hard-drive but you will find the HDD will slow down because the CD-ROM is a slow device.

How long have you had the computer? Maybe the warrenty would cover it.

My DVD Drive & DVD/CD Burner aren't working. I checked in the Devce Manager and found that I had Code 19 on the DVD Drive(Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.) and a Code 41 on the Burner (Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device). Does anyone know how to fix these so I can use at least the DVD Drive again, without having to reinstall the OS (thought it wouldn't load).

P.S: I was aboe to use the DVD Drive before July, I forgot the excact date.

A:DVD Drive DVD/CD Burner Not Working

Just the classic method:
Disconnect your CD/DVD drives. Boot. Open Device Manager. Delete everything that is related to CD/DVD drives. Shut down. Reconnect your devices. Boot Up. See device manager. Windows may have installed the 'new' devices. If not, start "Add Hardware" wizard, make it look for new plun'n'play devices. It should find something...

I have a Dell laptop - Windows XP-Home.

My question to anyone out there is I know that cleaning a CD player is required once and awhile - if you want optimum sound. Is this required and necessary for the CD player/burner that is in your computer?

I have a kit with some solution and a CD that you put in your CD players - but didn't know if this is safe for computers. I sure don't want to mess up my Dell.

Thank you for clarifying this for me.

Hi, I have inserted a CD into my CD drive and when I open a window to view the images, nothing is shown. It appears the CD is empty but I can see the images on another PC. I also can not write files to the CD. When I drop files into the window & click "write these files to disk", an error message says there is no CD in the drive.

The CD drive / burner worked before
I expect it's a driver problem but I don't know where to start. Any tips would be appreciated

Can you go iinto device manager (type devicemanager in search) and look at your dvd player to make sure it is installed and working properly.

i wonder if anyone has had the same problem i have; my cd burner drive, if i put in and take out cd's to make image and catalog , doesnt refresh the data on the cd; it'd think that the cd is the one i previously took out.

At first, i thought may be it's the disk going bad or dirty, but i found that if i reboot, it'd read fine again; so it has something to do with the drive or computer; my question is whether there's a way to get it to refresh its sensor without my having to reboot

thank you.

Hi to all,
I have a MITSUMI CR-4804TE cd burner drive. I have burned cd's in the past and everything went well and had no problems. Now when I log on to windows a little cd is flashing with the cursor. To stop it, I have to get a paper-clip and manually open the drive all the way, then manually push it back in with my hand. The drive flashes when you push the button but does not respond, budge, or make any noise. It has power and is connected on the inside. There is not a cd disc in there. I am running Win Xp Home E. The computer is an HP Pavillion.

A:DVD Burner recognized as CD Drive

What would you burn the disks with, what software? Do they think it is a DVD drive? What OS? XP is pretty poor with correctly identifying blank DVDs but the burning softwares have no problems. I think XP's poor identification stems from it not supporting dvd burning from explorer like it does cds, so it won't always report that the disk has 4.3 gigs free or whatever.

Apparently my burner stopped burning right after I started making personal DVD-RW's. Sometimes, the burner doesn't even recognize any CD's I put in it, no matter what CD quality it is. It can still run but I can't burn CD's and most are not being recognized. Any solutions?

A:CD drive burner not working

Can't you start off with a empty hard drive to get rid of all the multiple installations and other junk, then re-install Windows from scratch on to a 'clean' drive? It's the only way to give Windows the best chance of working properly and minimise problems.

As for losing all your files everytime you have to re-install Windows, have you never heard of backing up?
Buy an external hard drive and copy all your files to it while Windows is working -- and don't forget to keep your backups up-to-date.
