Sata HD and CD/DVD Burning

Q: Sata HD and CD/DVD Burning

Looking for the best configuration on connecting up my new Motherboard, I am using
a new SATA Hard drive and I have a 2 channel IDE ports available,
I am using 2 Sony burners, one is a CD-R burner and the other is a DVD burner,
should I connect them to the first channel and make one master and the other slave?
on the IDE 1.
Or make the both Master and connect one burner to each IDE port?
Has any one ever had any after run errors or burning problems?

Looking for some advice from anyone who has fiqured this out.
Thanks,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would use both as Master, on different ATA cables.
But actually I don't think there's much difference either way, these days.

Hey people,
I havent installed anything new that I know of nor added any hardware to my existing setup, but for some odd reason it burns everything at a fixed rate, which is super slow. Yesterday it took my burner 40-45 minutes to burn a DVD, so I can imagine how long a DVD+DL will take. Here's my setup and the log file generated when I burn something.

Windows XP Pro w/SP2
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
GeForce 8600GT
4GBs Kingston 667MHZ DDR2 RAM

And here's the log...no Firmware upgrades were applied as I was already running the most recent one.

Please help.
I've been getting this message for about a month. However, after rebooting sometimes once, sometimes several times the computer eventually boots up. After reading multiple posts on similar issues, I went and got a new hard drive. I backed up all the files and was going to reinstall evertyhing from scratch onto this new hard drive. I took the old one out and put in the new one. I get the same message when it tries to boot.
At this point I swapped the drives again (the old one is back in).
I am at a loss.
Am I doing something wrong when I'm installing the new drive? Why am I getting the same message with this new drive?

Nero Burning ROM crashed during burning and now my DVD drive is unusable. I cannot open the drive, I cannot shut down the computer because it says "Waiting for DVD Drive D:" and the drive runs like it is still burning despite the program doing the burning is no longer open. It isn't even in any process. What can I do to make the drive stop?

A:Nero Burning ROM crashing caused perpetual burning from DVD Drive

Go to Task Manager...shut the system down from there.

Turn system off....hard shutdown if necessary...disconnect the optical drive.

Sounds to me like it's a hardware problem moreso than a software problem if you cannot manually open the drive.

Hi

I would be gratefull for help, just a week or two my inside and outside (USB) recorders started to work extremly slow.
Using Nero 14 i can see the real recording speed 800 - 1 500 kB/s when using 16x (22 160 kB/S). My usb samsung blu-ray recorder also work very slow - data fo 25 Gb disc takes about 4 hours.
It is a new machine, 16 Gb RAM, 3770K on board so it is a fast one but recording...
I tried deinstaling IDE i decice manager.
I tried Ashampoo, CDburnerXP - all the same.
During recording HDD 0 (c shows 1% usage.
No software in background - just Kaspersky

DVD and Blu-ray have no errors - veryfication ok, surface test also - only very slow.
Tested media: TDK, Sony, Panasonic (all 16x for dvd and 6x for blu-ray)

When I burn cd/dvds with Windows 7 built in burning software and windows media player all my burns are successful. When I try to use Nero, CD Burner XP or imgburn, it fails. My computer is plenty fast enough(2.8ghz, 4gb ddr2, 250gb sata hd) and I tried reinstalling windows 7 without nero or deamon tools and tested with CD Burner XP, it still failed. I am using Sony blank CD's and also tried a few other name brand. I am burning at the lowest speeds. I purchased a brand new dvd burner and the firmware is up to date. The error I am getting is "Could not write to Disc". It fails randomly anywhere from 3%-30%. Any ideas? Again, windows 7 native burning works fine but other software does not. Same pc, same blanks, same burner, same hardware just different software. Any Ideas at all?

I read an article stating there?s very little difference between SATA cables. So I tried it for myself.

This screenshot shows the slight differences in speed; likely most of you already knew this. In testing, an 11GB file transferred in 10 seconds using either cable. Vid link shows detail of test for those interested. May not want to toss old cables.

Yesterday I had a PC technician around to see why my PC was not booting-up properly and also to change my SSD to a larger SSD. As I am visually challenged I cannot do hardware upgrades etc, so I got a Techie guy in.

We used Zinstall HDD by-the-way and I would highly recommend this application for such a job plus, it is extremely fast.

Anyway, while he was diagnosing my boot-up issue he discovered I had a malfunctioning network card; while removing this, he noticed all the SATA settings were set to SATA 2.

When he reset these to SATA 3, the PC would not start-up! When he set them again to SATA 2 there was no problem and it worked fine?

Can anyone illuminate me on this please?

Thanks for any/all imput

You may want to live with SATA 3g/s. Easiest path, no real difference except for benchmarks, and no chance of data loss.

this is an ASUS X83V notebook - Setting the SATA operation to 'compatible' mode at installation, Win8 CP installed fine, no hitches. Switched BIOS to Enhanced/full mode and it fails.

I recall this sort of problem from XP installs where tricks were needed to support SATA, but I do not recall this on Seven. Will Win 8 not detect the right controller, fetch the right driver? Do I need to manually force-install, reboot, reselect enhanced mode, and go from there?

Is this so-called "enhanced" mode switching the storage over to AHCI mode? If so, you have to edit the registry first before being able to do that.

Probably some fakeraid BS..
You have to enter the RAID BIOS and configure the drive as a RAID0 array or something similar. If it doesn't detect the drive in the RAID BIOS either, look over all your cables. Make sure you have power to the hard drive and suchlike.

I'm looking at a Sabrent EC-UEIS7 Hard Drive Enclosure - 3.5" IDE/SATA to USB 2.0, eSATA in order to use one of my now internal Sata drives as an 'external' backup device.

If I turn the external power off on the back of the external Sata enclosure with my extra old Sata connected in it...will that drive then be safe from any virus/malware attacks from within my system (or online) even if the external enclosure Sata cable is still connected to the main PC?

I'm assuming if I have the power switch switched off on this external enclosure with my Sata drive...then nothing can read/write to the Sata drive in this external case ?

Thanks...TRinAZ

A:Safety of internal 3.5 Sata IDE in external Sata case for backups

Yes, that is correct. The HDD must have power and data to function in any capacity.

If there is no power going to any drive then they can not read or write anything even if the data cable is attached.

You can always use one of these PCI SATA adapter cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=pci+sata

A computer as old as you're describing will likely have an old type standard PCI slot, and NOT a PCI-E (PCI express). be certain to verify which slot you have, before you make a purchase. These are two entirely different interfaces, which are not interchangeable.

You have a few things happening here, 1st your Win7 is probably an OEM (Originaly came w/the system) andassuck is tiedto the original mobo & can'tbe moved.
2nd, you have 1 sys w/ a core2quad processor, and the other has an I5. This means the mobo & memory are different, you have a different setof drivers so thr=e DX4860 will not boot with the older drivers. Normallythis would take aclean install, but being an OEM version - you would need therecovery discsfromthe DX4860.

I have two separate instances of Win running on two separate IDE hard drives both Win 's restored from same exact backup image The one on the hard drive comected to the SATA port via an adaptor runs fine but the Ide/SATA IDE two MB port via IDE and on SATA OS Hard Drives: adaptor, one on the IDE connection motherboard's only one does not respond properly when a manual shutdown is initiated Instead of shutting down the PC it goes OS on two IDE Hard Drives: SATA port via Ide/SATA adaptor, and MB IDE into sleep mode This does not happen if OS on two IDE Hard Drives: SATA port via Ide/SATA adaptor, and MB IDE an application my backup software for instance is set to perform a shutdown after completing it's job Only affecting manual shutdowns but all of them So I am wondering if Win is lacking an IDE driver of some kind and if there is a way to deternine this Seems strange to me that while both hard drives are IDE quot underneath the hood quot that the one connected throgh an adaptor is more easily being recognized by Win and curious if there is an easy fix

I have 2 IDE HDs installed and added SATA drive lately. SATA runs in IDE mode in CMOS. Problem is, even though SATA drive is recognized by BIOS, Disk Manager, Norton Ghost & System Works, it doesn't show in My Computer, causing problems with saving and opening files. Tried a couple of tricks (changing the drive letter, disconnecting & reconnecting the drive, reformatting etc. ) nothing seems to work. I use this SATA drive for storage and for now I have to drag the files down there manually.
I don't know if it's of any importance, but I have nVidia GeForce graphics card onboard.
Has anyone encountered this kind of a problem ?
Thanks Carl

A:xp install is not recognizing SATA Raid nor single SATA hd

hmm, strange - have you formatted your hard drives already? Do you have Win XP with SP2 - SP2 is needed to recognize large hard drives.
I don't know how complicated it would be but if all else fails maybe undo the raid configuration format your hard drives (if they are not already) then do the raid thing. I am a beginner so these thougths/ideas might be irrelevant.

Hey guys,

I just purchased a samsung sata dvdrom - this is an upgrade from my old failing IDE drive. My motherboard (an Asus A8V Deluxe) has 2 sata connectors, and another 2 raid sata connectors - the 2 regular connectors are being used up by HDD's...

The question is, can I use one of the Raid Sata's for the dvdrom? (I've tried this already with no luck, I'm wondering if there are any bios settings that'll help with this?)

If this isn't possible, can I plug the hdd's into the raid sata's and not use the raid functionality?

Thanks for your help, I look forward to replies!

A:[SOLVED] Sata vs Raid Sata? DVDRom not recognized

No the raid sata port need a raid driver and won't work with optical drives, you would be able to use the non-boot hard drive on it however and put the DVD drive on the standard sata port. Unless you already have the hard drives in a raid config.

If you are converting to a format readable by a dvd player they burner will burn very slowly depending on the source file. Now does you cpu max out when burning?

Ok, i'm new to this CD Burning. I have Nero Express, and i'm having a little problem with it.

I've copied an Audio CD to a CD-R, and it plays fine, but there are still space on it, and i wanted to put a MP3 (it converts to CDA really nice also) together with the already burned tracks, but i can't. Everytime i put the same CD, i get the folloqing message:

"This midia cannot be recorded
Please Insert another midia."

(Sorry if it's not right, cuz i translated from portuguese)

Can i do what i want?? How??

Sorry if it is hard to understand, it is hard to explain.

Thank you

A:Audio CD Burning with Nero Burning Rom

You cannot append any audio files to an disc that has been completed. Once a disc is completed it cannot access the remaining space. Especially with Nero Express. Once a disc is burned it is "closed (finalized)."

This is just a simple explanation.

I believe Roxio's Easy cd creator lets you add files to your disc as long as you don't "finalize" it. Until you finalize it you will not be able to listen to the music.

I recently bought a WD 200gb SATA drive, which I plugged into my k8x800 Pro II motherboard. I updated my bios to the most recent version, installed the SATA drivers and installed Windows XP Pro SP1.

My issue is that my computer several times a day gives me the blue screen of death with error messages such as "bad_pool_caller", "error in ntfs.sys" etc. It seems to me to be related to the HD installation, as the bsod mostly happens when the harddisk is being used.

I've installed a ssd capable of 6GB/s on my sata II board and was wondering, if there were controller cards that could be used with one of the two slots mentioned to get the full 6GB/s speed from the ssd if so, any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

A:PCI or Pciex4 controller cards for sata II to sata III for 6GB/s ssd

I've had experience with only one card (LSI 9211-8i, way overkill for your purposes) but, based on my experience with that card, to be able to boot from them (not all cards can be booted from), you would have to install the card during the installation of Win 7. Also, cards have their own BIOS that have to be loaded in addition to the OS and the MOBO's BIOS or UEFI so you probably wouldn't gain much, if anything, in boot time (more likely, overall boot time will be longer, as with my HBA card). You may gain faster program loading, though.

Hi guys.
I asked this question before but somehow i got no reply. i want to know whether i should get two 200 gig connected through RAID 0, or just buy one 400 SATA150 and connected to SATA master1. i really need some opinion here.

my MOBO is Asus P5AD2-E Premium.

Thanks a lot of the help.

A:Is two 200gig (SATA RAID) better than one 400 SATA (master)?

The way I would do this is like so:
400g sata drive for the os and seldom used storage. I'd likely do a 10g os partition, and the rest for data, backups, etc.
I would raid0 the apps, raid0 of the os is asking for it, in my opinion.
Put a pagefile on the os drive and the raid0 array for best performance.

This way the os is on a reliable drive rather than on a risky raid array, apps get a boost from the raid0 array.
Keep in mind that most of the always needed parts of the os will ALWAYS be in memory. Raid0 for the os isn't really needed for performance. Of course, if all you have is a raid0 array, you kinda have to place the os there...

Perhaps not a question for sevenforums but I'd figure you guys would either have the answer or be able to direct me to the answer I purchased a Silicon SiI SATA Raid Controller purely to have extra SATA ports which I am using to connect to my case's external drive bays I have flashed the bios of the controller and updated the driver to put it in quot Base quot mode so it is not using RAID I did extensive research on this and it appears that I have this part right Controller? SATA on SATA-II Drive Raid For now I am trying to connect a WD BEVT quot SATA-II hard drive to one of these ports and am having some difficulty I can see the drive but when I try to format the drive in Windows or a command prompt using the windows recovery DVD it hangs I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue with a SATA-II drive on a SATA-I controller however most of the forums I have read state that if there is a compatibility SATA-II Drive on SATA Raid Controller? issue the controller won't even recognize the drive I searched around to see if there was a way to force the HDD SATA-II Drive on SATA Raid Controller? to SATA but the jumpers on this drive are for SSC and RPS Is there a way to fix this or do I need a drive that is capable of forcing SATA-I speeds Perhaps even a controller capable of at least SATA-II since that is the minimum of all new HDDs

A:SATA-II Drive on SATA Raid Controller?

SATA II drives are typically not backwards compatible with SATA I ports, especially on add-in cards UNLESS they have what is called "autospeed negotiation". This determines the max speed of the drive and tells it to compensate if it's too high (use SATA 1 vs 2). Unless there is a jumper on your drive, which it doesn't sound like there is, then the add-in card does not have autospeed negotiation. This is taken from Problems encountered installing SATA 3.0 Gb/s hard drives on SATA 1.5 Gb/s controllers.

I suggest finding an addin card that supports SATA II like this card: Newegg.com - Rosewill RC-211 Silicon Image 2 port SATA II PCI Express Host Controller Card(RAID 0/1/JBOD)

I?m sure that SATA II HDDs are supported.
The point is that the notebook supports the SATA controller and the SATA II is down compatible to SATA I. So it should not be a big problem using the SATA II HDD even if the controller would be SATA I

So I'm still dealing with this problem.... I've got my system running XPpro on a 20GB PATA with an extra 20GB PATA for storage, had it this way for a long time now.

Now after I purchase a WD 250GB SATA drive to throw in there for additional storage, it doesn't show up at all in Windows Explorer or Drive Manager. BUT it does show up fine in the BIOS. I've already formated to NTFS and partitioned it using XPs DOS setup CD. My system is loaded with SP2 and all the SATA drivers so there should be no reason for the SATA not to show up in Explorer.

So my question is.... In a system that uses both SATA and PATA hard drives, does the operating system have to run off the SATA in order for all drives to be present???

A:Using SATA & PATA HDDs in 1 system: have to use SATA for C:\?

Don't think so, usually it is the opposite.

Does the drive show up in the Logical Disk Manager?

It may just need a signature written to it.

(you can get to LDM by right clicking my computer -> Manage. It will be down the left side.)

My new laptop has currently 8.1 installed to a 500gig 840 EVO SSD, I replaced the 1tb hard drive it came with and did a clean install.

I'd like to utilize the M.2 sata port with a Crucial M550 500gig drive for windows, and re-install the 1tb hard drive for storage.

I have an external USB 2.5" SATA enclosure I can create an image of my current SSD/8.1 to, then I assume using Acronis or some such, restore the image to the M.2 SSD once it's installed.

I suspect Windows is going to object to having been moved from a regular SATA SSD to the M.2 SSD.
I'm not sure how Windows see's a M.2 (non-pcie, it's regular SATA M.2) VS a "regular" SATA port.
It's an HP Envy i7 laptop fwiw so it should be all Intel hardware.

Any thoughts/experience? Am I over-thinking it?

A:Move Windows from SATA SSD to M.2 SATA SSD on laptop

That should work fine, as long as bios recognizes the M2 drive. Have done similar with many msata's, all went well. Restore the image, remove the original drive, and see if it boots, no harm can be done by this.

Am recommending having a windows installation usb stick available, can be used to fix windows boot settings if needed. And keep the original image safe for some time until one is 111% sure all is well. Good luck.

Hello all,

i have a Hitachi Deskstar 80gb SATAII hard drive and was planning on getting another one of these hard drives and looking into creating a RAID array. My motherboard has SATA but it does not have SATAII. Im looking at 2 different PCI sataII cards,

- PCI - here

- PCIx - here

Is the PCIx one faster? and how much difference does sataII create over sata? also how much difference will the raid array make?

Thanks in advance

The PCI Express one is definitely faster. But make sure your motherboard has PCI Express slots.

problem - I bought a new 1 tb western dig HD that is sata ii (wd10eacs) and windows does not give it a drive letter.

I have a intel D101Dggc mobo whose specs say that there is a sata i connection. Can this be the problem - the sata 1 connection on the older moboi cannot process the new sata ii hd?

if not, what is a good way to tr shoot? The device mgr in windows put this drive name in the hard drive list.

A:can new sata II 1 tb hd work with a sata i mobo?

If the drive is detected then the SATA 1/5 versus 3.0 is not likely an issue.

But the drive needs to be initialized, partitioned and formated before it will get a driver letter and be accessible.

To do that you must use Disk Management and here's how: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000/

I have a Dell Optiplex GX289 SFF computer. How do I take an old laptop SATA 250GB HDD and make it the primary for the desktop? I have a SATA slot, and have heard about the appropriate 2.5 to 3.5 brackets. But, because I have a SATA connector, how can I do this safely? I also plan on putting a slimline DVDRW in place of the CDRom drive that is IDE I believe.

"realize that the 6Gb/sec transfer rate is a marketing gimmick -- no mechanical hard disk will ever saturate even a 3Gb/sec (SATA II) interface" from http://secure1.ncix.com/products/productreviewdetail.php?id=126198

Does this mean it's pointless to use a hard drive that uses a sata 3 connection over a sata 2?

A:Is SATA 3 faster than SATA 2 in practice?

It's pointless for any harddrive that doesn't saturate Sata2.
No, it's absolutely necessary because we already have harddrives exceeding Sata2's 300MB/s.
IMO not a marketing gimmick, but a step forward. Though I have seen a couple mechanical harddrives priced a couple dollars higher because they are SATA3, but just be smart and not buy them.

can i disable the raid sata and use it like ordinary sata for optical drive in the intel D975XBX2 ? thanks

A:raid sata to ordinary sata

I use two sata drives in a hardware raid 0.

What RAID are you using? RAID 0/RAID 1/RAID 5
You can break your RAID, BUT you will lose all the striped data on all your drives if configured in RAID 0.
RAID 1 are mirrored drives, and the array can be broken without data loss.

I am setting up a new system with the following:
M5A97 LE 2.0 Asus MB
AMD 4130 processor
Sandisk SSD 120 for OS
1 TB WD SATA 2
NVIDIA 210 Graphic

System is for general use. NOT GAMING

Will I lose much by using a SATA 2 HD rather than a SATA 3? My thinking is that it should not make much difference.

Also wondering if upgrade to 6 core would make that much difference.

Finally, I assume these days using a RAID for data is not preferable to simply backing up externally.

A:New Setup. SSD, SATA 3 for OS and HD, SATA 2 for data

Well SATA 2 hard drives have older technology and fabrication than the new SATA 3 for what ever that's worth. Multi core processors work better for programs that are written to use them.
Yea external hard drives are holding up to 5 TB now days with very fast reads and writes. if your worried run 2 as I do one internal and 1 external for back up only, my actual data is on a 1TB WD Black.

When I connect a 2nd SATA disk to a DELL Dimension, it's recognised by the BIOS but not by Windows (nor Partition Magic, nor AIDA).

What I find odd is that I can see only 2 SATA plugs on the motherboard. However, the BIOS sees the original boot disk under Drive 0 and Port SATA-0. The new one is recognised as Drive 1 and Port SATA-2. What happened to SATA-1?

I wouldn't mind except that this might be a reason why the new disk is not seen by Windows.

A:SATA-0 / SATA-2 Disk problem

Hmmm... Since Sata is set as shared... it will not required to set jumper. Put the SATA 0 as OS, try boot it up. if it works, plug in SATA 1. If it works. here u go. if not, it is bios problem. you should set it as Enchanced or SATA only under BIOS. If it has auto, use it.

Should i change the jumper settings on the 250GB Drive to run at SATA 150 or should i just leave it at SATA 300.

and at times it does take a while to access files from my 250GB too. there are some other jumper settings on the back of both drives but i dont know which ones would be optimal for me.

Thanx in advance.

A:WD Raptor SATA 150 and SATA 300 configuration.

The interface speed makes absolutely no difference

The drive mechanics are at least 2x slower than SATA150 and it makes absolutely no difference whether you run the drive at SATA150, SATA300 or SATA50000.

You could try some more obvious things like defragmenting the drives and splitting them into several partitions.

I tried to look for the motherboard specs online but I could not find the info anywhere.  Does someone know the answer to this or how to fix it?
Thanks!

A:XPS 14 Ultrabook (L421x) SATA II or SATA III?

Hi Arstocker,
The SATA III spec 6Gb/s was released 3 years prior to the release date of your XPS14. The Spec. Sheet doesn't indicate properly that it''s SATA II or III but I'd bet dollars to donuts if it's sold as SATA III it's supported. If you Right Click on Computer and select manage and then pick Disk Management  you may simply need to initialize the SSD from there. If this screenshot is from your PC with the Drive installed, your computer knows the drive exists, you just have to convince the operating system it's there. If this answer helped please remember to click the YES button and if you need further assistance don't hesitate to contact.

Hey guys sorry if this is in the wrong section, but i'm looking to upgrade from a HDD to SSD. I've been reading online about my board and apparently the marvell 9128 controller sucks speed wise. I was looking at the Corsair Force 3 because of the read/write speeds. Upon doing more digging though it looks like id be better off running a drive on the SATA 2 ports. Would I then be better off getting a SATA 2 SSD for slightly cheaper?

I'm confused on what to do. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I am sure this is not a hardware problem so what else could it be ?

I've been recording sucessfully with the same set up and software in the past, any suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Q. How can i clone the datas on the present sata from the other sata?
Q. How can i set the other sata as slave and the present sata as primary?

A:sata 2 sata cloning

first of all I believe what you want to clone is the Hard drive not the CPU, that would be kinda hard to do. For SATA you do NOT need to set one as slave and the other as master just plug them both and make sure the one you want to boot from is specified in the BIOS as the boot hard drive. Another thing to consider is that you will not be able to copy files from the drive while they are being used by windows, Acronis should let you boot from the cd so you can clon the drive while NOT in windows, if not then search on google for a free boot cd, there are many... burn it and use it to boot from, run one of the utilities included in the cd that will allow you to clon the hard drive.. PM me if you have any more questions or if I wasn't clear enough and I will be happy to assist you.

Sata 3 has a faster transmission engine. But the wiring on the connectors stay the same. The difference in the cables is sata three is has a much lower resistance which permits the faster signal transfer.

Hello

I was wondering If I have one sata 1 and an new sata 2(or 3) on my PC installed on my PC... will cause problems in transfer speeds?

My Blue-ray is sata 1 also...

Does this mean that all disks will work as sata 1?

A:Installing both sata 1 and sata 2 on my pc

All SATA devices operate independently of each other. The transfer rate is governed chiefly by the device speed, and each device can operate simultaneously at that speed. Contrast that to PATA devices, where the maximum speed of devices attached to a single cable is that of the slowest attached. In addition, delays (and effective reduction in speed) are caused when both devices on the cable need to be accessed (only one device can utilise the interface at a time, the other device has to wait until the interface becomes free). In all cases, drivers and CPU/memory speed throughput are also a factor.

As I understood it, a SATA hard drive should work on a SATA 1 machine?
However, when I try it, my PC wont even boot up...and yes the boot drive is still there!
Have I got this wrong?

The BIOS wont see the drive either.
My mainboard is quite old now: ga-k8vt800
and the drive in question is a wd5000aaks
something to do with jumper connections to make it work as a SATA 1?

As the subject SATA in Onboard PC OEM SATA Without an says my friend has himself a very strange situation involving SATA Let s start from the beginning For christmas he got a GB SATA hard drive unknowing that he didn t have an onboard SATA port he has an eMachines so he came to me and I told him he should probably go SATA in an OEM PC Without SATA Onboard about getting a SATA PCI card then he can just reinstall windows onto the new hard drive Tonight I went over and plugged all of the stuff in I had to put a new PSU in too because his didn t have a SATA plug SATA in an OEM PC Without SATA Onboard setup the drivers for the PCI card and initialized the new HDD Then it turns out he s trying to install Windows from an eMachines boot CD that strangely uses Norton Ghost to install windows so we can t do the F method to recognize the drivers of the PCI Card that uses SATA he doesn SATA in an OEM PC Without SATA Onboard t have a floppy drive so we had all the driver files on a USB stick that is bootable When the recovery CDs are booted you get two options one being to recover windows onto C using Norton Ghost and the other is to use command prompt Although command prompt doesn t help us at all because only allows you to run a command from A and since we don t have a floppy there is no A thus we cannot run the driver installation beforehand I am here wondering how I can get him out of this situation and install Windows from the recovery cd s onto the new HDD I tried to use nLite but since we don t have a product key and are using an OEM computer this is out of the question Thanks for reading this post and I look forward to any answer comment nbsp

i want do do this in the asus eee pc 1215b

A:sata ||and sata ||| problem

I fail to understand your point. There is no Sata 200 or Sata 300. There are Sata 2 and Sata 3 ports on the mobo. But the OCZ SSD you chose is a Sata 2 model.

I'm thinking of buying the,

Corsair Force Series 3 90GB SATA 3 6Gb/s Solid-State-Drive.

Force Series

Info "" Corsair Force Series 3 is Compatible with SATA 2 3Gb/s.
Haven't yet moved to SATA 3? Like all Corsair components, Force Series 3 SSDs are designed to last through several system upgrades. Adding a Force Series 3 today means that you'll still get incredible storage performance now, and your SSD will be ready for your next upgrade.""

Well,is future proof.

My GA-X38-DS4 motherboard is Sata 2.

Here we have some good experts in SSD installation.

So,i need your opinion\advice. Good idea? Bad idea?

A:Sata 3 ssd on Sata 2 Motherboard.

It should work just fine on a SATA2 port, but it will be limited to SATA2 speeds.

For example, youll Probably see Seq. Reads in the 250-275ish range.
To take advantage of the speed its capable of, youll just have to upgrade to a Motherboard with a SATA3 port.

Hello all I consider myself to be an intermediate user I have built a few systems however I have never tackled RAID or SATA My question is using the motherboard described below will I be able to to SATA not question or To the SATA?--that be attach two SATA drives to the board WITHOUT using RAID basically just C and D drives I have been reading some of the horror stories of getting windows to load on a SATA drive I would use the drivers required at F I guess I wonder if I would do better by using one IDE drive as the boot drive and then use just the one SATA drive Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated System I am currently building Mother Board ASUS A N X-E DELUXE CPU AMD Athlon XP Video ASUS A GE TD Memory Corsair GIG x M DDR PC Hard Drives To SATA or not to SATA?--that be the question W D GB RPM SATA subject to change DVD Burner ASUS X Dual R RW CD R RW ASUS x x nbsp

A:To SATA or not to SATA?--that be the question

You can use most MB RAID controllers in a non-RAID configuration if that floats your boat. Personally, I'd go for the SATA drives, since that's the new form-factor, and newer systems are all going that way.
