Is a 1866 memory compatible with an H77 board?

Q: Is a 1866 memory compatible with an H77 board?

I just came from a retail store to check on prices but most of their parts weren't available anymore. Instead of a G. Skill Ripjaws 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1600, the clerk offered me a Crucial Ballistix 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1866 memory. The board I'm gonna buy is an Asrock H77 Pro4/Mvp but looking at their memory support list Pro4/MVP, it doesn't seem compatible.

The clerk had told me it was compatible and that he had tried it before but I'm not sure if it'd have unwanted effects over some period of time. (I got drawn in by how the memory looks and its LED so I'm including it as a choice). Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Is a 1866 memory compatible with an H77 board?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It will be compatible, worst case scenario is just setting your 1866Mhz RAM to run at 1600Mhz. You're getting quicker RAM for free.

i have purchased a P4 3.0Ghz SL7J6 processor for a new build , having trouble finding a quality board for it .Does anyone have any suggestions or mabe have a particular board maker that you mite favor thanks in advance for your suggestion

A:Compatible board for P4 processor

I wonder... Why did you buy a P4 for a new build? How much did you pay for that? You can get a dual-core AMD CPU for 40-60$, and that beats P4 totally... Consider returning that P4, as it just isn't worth your money... :/

I have a rather old but new-in-box board that must go into a specific computer. Parameters dictate this board and only this board be used. It currently has an also new 2.8GHz Pentium processor on board and is running fine; but, I would like to swap this processor for a faster one. Not much gain, I know; but, that's what the owner wants.

This is the board:

Gigabyte no longer has data on this board and I cannot find a compatible processor list and the manual says nothing I can find about compatible processors.

Can anyone help with this?

Sure, the card will work fine. The graphics card memory is independent from the memory type of the motherboard.

So, my intel d875 got fried

I have found a few AGP slotted mobos and this one is what I may be going with

My question is will my new card provide the same features as the old and therefore be compatible? I checked to the best of my ability but need to be sure before I pull the trigger.

Thanks for the help

A:Motherboard fried, is this board compatible?

Well, no. The product addresses I followed show the Intel board is socket 478, while the Asrock is an LGA775. So. best guess is it will take your video card, but you'd have to spring for a processor.
You could also consider Matx size boards as they usually fit into Atx cases.
I don't know if it's worth it to directly replace your 875 board, but I do understand limited finances. The ASRock board does accept 184 pin DDR and AGP graphics, the only addition would be a new CPU. With another board you might have to buy 4 things, (CPU, board, RAM, and Video Card).

A:Compatible memory?

Go to and use their configuration finder. You won't find better memory than Crucial. Then once you discover what works, you can buy any brand.
Value Ram is OK, provided you don't need the high speed for gaming or image editing software. It is "value" because the chips on the module may be from a number of sources, not tested, and not likely to work at the higher speeds.
There is a much marketing as technology in most memory modules. Reliability wins out over marketing for our computers... thus, Crucial, Kingston, Infineon, and Corsair are our likely choices.

Other than the Lenovo solution, would others please post memory that is compatible with P70/P50 ECC.I see crucial produces the following:  CT16G4TFD824A DDR4-2400 Unbuffered ECC 1.2VHas anyone tried this module?

A:P70 ECC Compatible memory

I haven't "tried" this ECC memory because I'm still waiting for the E3-1535M  CPU to become orderable in the North American market.  However, I have also been looking at specification compatible ECC modules.  The Crucial one you referenced isn't, spec-wise, exactly the same as the Lenovo provided one. Here is the comparison between the Samsung M474A2K43BB1-CPB one that Lenovo provides and the Crucial one you referenced:Samsung: 16GB SODIMM ECC SDRAM DDR4-2133 Mhz Unbuffered PC4-17000 Mb/s 1.2 Volt 260 Pin with Latency CL=15Crucial: 16 GB SODIMM ECC SDRAM DDR4-2400 Mhz Unbuffered PC4-19200 Mb/s 1.2 Volt 260 Pin with Latency CL=17 So, the spec differences between the two are the Speed (2133 Mhz vs 2400 Mhz), the bandwidth (17000 Mb/second vs 19200 Mb/second) and the latency (15 nano seconds vs. 17 nano seconds). Although there may be other Samsung "spec identical" ECC memory, the only other 16 GB one I have found so far (from this forum) is the Transcend TS2GSH72V1B. Like you, I'd be very interested to hear from others on this subject.

A:Memory Module or System Board?

Since the beeping starts when using a known good module in the "suspect" slot it

would seem to indicate a problem with the slot.

You can try testing using one working module in all slots to make sure that the issue is the slot.

If the slot is determined to be defective the board would have to be replaced.

This can be an issue with OEM unless the board is replaced with the same board.

A:how will i know if my mother board or memory is defective?

what makes you think the mobo or the ram is defective?
Have you tried a bios re-set yet?

A bios re-set can be very important and can be the difference between the pc starting up or not starting up.
You should always check the motherboard manual as there is a standard method of re-setting the bios but some mobo(motherboard) mfgrs differ a bit, for instance some Pc chips mobos are different.
Standard method: Unhook your pc so there is no power going to it. Then take out the coin battery. Near the coin battery you will find 3 pins with one jumper. Move the jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pins 2 and 3. In other words, move the jumper up one pin.
Leave it there for a few minutes, then put everything back the way it was.
You can always tell if the bios re-set has taken place properly, you should have to re-set the time and date. It not done automatically then the fsb settings have to be set up again.
Another way to re-set the bios, not fully, but to at least affect a few changes would be to use the setting that says "default" or "minimum" or "standard" or "basic" settings. You only have to click on that and save and exit. This is not the same as a full and proper bios re-set but sometimes it can help.
There are many individual settings inside your bios that can make your mobo work or stop working, and some settings that do little to nothing.
You should always read your mobo manual first. If you dont have one then use google to find your mobo mfgrs website and then find the proper manual for your mobo, as well as drivers, bios updates, etc. You should download all you can for your mobo and burn it to a cdr. If this is a new build, doublecheck all bios and motherboard settings with the motherboard manual.

Last, sometimes the bios re-set took ok but the power supply needs to be reset as well. This happens as a result of trying to boot a pc when there is some problem, something somewhere, like a wrong setting, that results in the power supply not only not starting up, but needing a reset. You can do this using a power supply tester but if you dont have it then follow this:

Turn power supply off at the back of the pc and remove the power cord, now press and hold the pc's power on/off button for one minute. This is with the motherboard connected to the power supply. Thats all for a ps re-set.

A:Sabertooth 990FX wont let me set ram to 1866

I had the same issue with my Sabertooth; the RAM I'm using sold as 1866MHz as well, but was downclocked by the mobo. Had to manually set the RAM timings and everything worked fine after.

Did you do that already? (Just make sure you set the right ones, it might be confusing if you never did it before, there can be a lot of timings available to change)

A:Is this memory compatible with my motherboard?

If you go to the manufacturers site and look up the motherboard there should be a list available to view or download for compatible RAM, you can check it there.

Unfortunately the compatability lists only include RAM they have tested so even if it is not in the list it may still be ok. Thing to do is try it.

A:Quick Q: Can memory exceed board rating?

Yes it will work. It will just run at the slower speed. Usually when it does that you can tighten the timings, which is a good thing.

Greetings all. I am currently running an AMD 64 +3200 on an Asus a8v board. I am wondering what type of memory is best. (That is between 3200 & 2700, and ECC over non-ECC.) I can support upto 4 GB of 2700, and only 2 of 3200 ram.

I have heard other people having problems with the A8V in regards to the AGP settings from ATI as well.

A:Seeking memory advice on an ASUS A8V board

I don't use that board, but I use the K8V Deluxe with the same setup. I currently running a gig of Kingston PC3200 (2 x 512) and am thinking about adding another half-gig but currently, it's rock-solid. You may not need that much memory depending on the applications you're using. BTW, the mem I'm using is non-ECC.

What memory checker? If it the physical memory (RAM) in your system it's not OK to ignore this.

My computer locks up after I have captured video in Studio DV. I just don't know how to move which ones. Thanks in advance. Marsh

My PC has been having a lot of Blue screens for the past year and a half but I haven't done anything about it until now- RAM seemed a sensible piece of hardware to purchase as The PC on 1333 Mhz a Mobo limit 1866 Mhz RAM Installing only game with GB by default GB x - very odd configuration and as it is mainly used for gaming this Just isn't enough I removed GB and added x GB to give me GB total still an odd configuration but performance was solid for a good years then crashes started so i went to get a proper configuration but the crashes have continued So I have gout myself some hyper X Fury x GB modules Only or find out the Mobo limit is GB The only question now is how do I get the Mhz RAM to work with the Mhz limit on the mobo The RAM is advertised to quot auto clock to max frequency Installing 1866 Mhz RAM on a 1333 Mhz limit Mobo quot - does this mean it will automatically down clock itself I tried just Installing 1866 Mhz RAM on a 1333 Mhz limit Mobo installing a single stick of GB and it crashed as soon as windows began to load

A:Installing 1866 Mhz RAM on a 1333 Mhz limit Mobo

Hmm Neil seems to me to make common sense that if the mobo is limited to support 1333 then stick in (no pun) what speed RAM you like in whatever config you like and it will not go any faster than 1333 because even if the RAM tries to clock itself it cannot go any faster than the mobo will allow / support.

In fact it might be causing the problems you are experiencing now two things you can do is a memtest - just make sure you run for at least 8 PASSESand check with the mobo's site for compatible RAM plus there is always some good advice from Tradesman at here he will advise you on what you can run on your mobo.

Now the other outside possibility is the mobo is going south and it may be the slots and not the sticks so if you do the memtest and it comes back with errors then you will need to test stick 1 in slot 1 and then slot 2 and do vice versa with stick 2 - slot 1 then slot 2. Depending on the outcome you will be able to pinpoint the errant stick or slot because if the sticks are good then ant errors will therefore have to be the slots.

To be honest even if your board supported more than 1333 I don't think for the day to day stuff you would notice that much difference if any at all. I run an Ivy Bridge RAM which is defaulted to 1333 and even clocking it at 2400 I cannot tell there is any difference at all.

Hi Guys,

Acer T180 with 2 X 512Gb PC2-4300 CL4 sticks. CPUZ reports as running at 100.5Mhz?

I want to add more memory.

Can I add 2 matched sticks of PC2-5400 CL4 1GB each
or 2 sticks of DDR2-5300 CL5 1GB each.
Both of the above at 675Mhz.

I have 4 slots each max of 1Gb; 2 used as above, 2 free.

What are the rules and implications for matching memory?
Is it correct that whatever I put in will run at the slowest speed i.e. the original PC2-4300 above?
Does it matter which slot pairs are used for which sticks e.g should the 1GB sticks go in the first two slots rather than the last.

I also see specifications like 5-5-5-15 , does that matter.

Wow, sorry for all the questions!

First try pulling out ram and reinstalling it. If that doesnt work try removing one stick at a time and rebooting. If it boots then the stick you have removed is bad. It may not hurt to clear CMOS also. Refer to your motherboard specs for procedure. Or just remove the battery on the board for about 15-30 seconds to reset. I have also seen a bad battery cause some weird problems but dont know any procedures for testing it except replace with a known good part.

However, in the BIOS, the memory frequency is reported at 0 MHz. Will this error in the BIOS be corrected in future BIOS updates?
My Inspiron 7559 has a Skylake I7 6700HQ cpu with the HM170 Express chipset which support DDR3L 1600 and DDR3L 1866 memory.  I would think the BIOS would be able to read the speed of the memory installed.
If a Dell representative reads this post do you think the issue of the BIOS not recognizing the speed of the memory installed will be corrected in a future BIOS update
Thank you,

A:DDR3L 1866 upgrade from DDR3L 1600 on I15 7000 7559

Dell does not officially support DDR3L 1866 in the Inspiron 7559... but I knew the chip-set and CPU did...
When I worked for Dell (Many years ago) I would always find that just because we didn't support something didn't mean it would not work.  But often it would not work right: just like the BIOS not seeing it correctly.
Thanks for letting me know that this config will work in my Inspiron 7559.

I have a problem and I think it s memory related I read the post about quot Dual-Channel Memory in Single-Channel Motherboard quot But it didn t help plus it was memory channel Dual board? single in Channel from Here s my computer it s old I know I don t have the money to upgrade all of it - Intel Pentium D GHz - EVGA GeForce GS MB GDDR PCI Express - Intel D GGCL ATI Socket Dual Channel memory in single channel board? MicroATX Motherboard - GB x MB PC DDR MHz CL Memory - Ultra -Watt power supply - Windows XP bit I recently bought a memory upgrade GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR PC Dual Channel Kit My computer worked fine minus the small memory amount before I installed the new memory After I installed the new RAM my computer posted got to the windows splash screen got to the log in screen let me log in then loaded the OS While loading the OS and launching other start-up programs my computer froze I restarted many times and it fixed it It never got past a few seconds after loading the OS and a few programs I reinstalled my old memory and it worked fine again without a hitch What is the problem Is it the fact that the new memory is dual channel and the motherboard is single channel I re-read the specs of my mobo and it said that dual channel is optional However when I go to the BOIS menu F on startup it says quot single channel mode quot whith the new dual channel kit is in Is there something in the BIOS I should change Something to download Please Help Thanks in advance - Veng nbsp

A:Dual Channel memory in single channel board?

Well, I can say I solved my own problem.

After I spent the last 4 hours trying to find the problem. I ran a bunch of mem tests, cleaned the mem slots, etc... It turns out it wasn't a hardware issue at all. I was wiggling my mouse on start up and noted the time it froze... and every time it froze an application was launching in the system tray.

Turns out it was Norton F'ing Anti Virus....

The second it launched the computer froze. So I booted in safe mode and disabled the start up and all other functions of Norton. Rebooted in normal mode, and sure enough, it worked! Without a hitch!

Now here comes the Beach of it. Since I couldn't uninstall Norton because I disabled it (i.e. nothing would run because all the extensions, shells and services for it were dead), I rebooted in safe mode to uninstall, BUT Norton doesn't work in safe mode... WHAT!? The damn program specifically states in a condescending dialog box that you "must reboot in normal mode to access Norton... blah blah blah"

What kind of Virus program doesn't let you access it in safe mode? Isn't that the point, to run a virus scan in safe mode? Piece of crap! But anyways, I digress.

So now I finagled a way to run in normal mode without Norton launching to uninstall it. Uninstalling as we speak, actually.

To answer my own question:
Yes, dual channel kits work in single channel boards (Just make sure you uninstall Norton before you put the new RAM in, haha).

p.s. After this... I'm switching to McAfee or some sh*t.... Christ. YOU HEAR ME NORTON!? GO SUCK A FAT HAIRY LOBSTER C*CK!

If ur not posting and considering what u've done coupled with the MSI diagnostics it is very likely there is a problem with this cpu.

There are no details under the computer title if I try to check the properties of computer or maybe it is just taking too much time to display. the desktop is fine, my computer still works but takes hours to do a simple task. it all started all of a sudden. Also I would like to know if 'unganged mode' is fine as it is displayed when the system boots. Since this is a Intel driver I doubt the WDK can fix it.

Say that I have a 500 GB external hard drive. But as it turns out, there's only 465 GB according to it and my computer. Why isn't there 500 Gb, but rather only 465? This also applies to mp3 players like iPods.

Why is this?

Can I do something to get back the "hidden" memory?
