Sony DRU835A Burning Problem

Q: Sony DRU835A Burning Problem

I been using my dvd burner for a couple of weeks now; & for the past couple of days I cannot burn anything. It goes into the burning motion and burns; but when I put the disc in a DVD system, comes up with disc error and the display shows numbers. I think it have sumthing to do with the DMA mode but not for sure. I used nero and dvd shrink but same problem occurred. Disc error and the dvd display shows numbers (goes thru a series of numbers on the display)..

Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You are probably burning in the wrong mode. Try changing the mode to (.ISO) and see if the problem disappears

Dear all, hope that someone can help me out here.

I've burnt some Word document and some JPG files onto a CDR. When I use explorer to view the files, I can see all the file with all the correct icons. However, when I double click the files, e.g. Word doc, Word application opens up but it couldn't open the actual file. It says the it is an Unknown file format. Same applies to the JPG files. The weird thing is I can open JPG files in one of the folder I burnt.

Please help. Appreciate it very much. Thanks

I have 2 optical drives

When I try to burn data files to a DVD+R DL, I do get a progress bar & info, but halfway through the 'burn' stops & exits. Nothing gets burned & the disc is still usable. This happens when using either drive.

Wondering if the drives only take certain types of DVD+R DL media. I am using a Memorex disc (don't usually use Memorex, but it's what I have right now) & trying to burn using 7 Pro 64Bit's own burn utility.

Though that is not the problem at the moment. What I'd like to solve is this:
Since the files did not burn, how do I get rid of the small yellow lock that is now showing on them? I now have some info I need to add to a few of these files, but can I w/the lock in place?

I have a Sony VAIO desktop, model VGC-RB30. My internal DVD burner seems to burn dvds fine, that is - until i watch the burnt discs. There seems to be some type of writing problem, because when I watch the discs the picture will pixilate or the DVD will skip every 60 seconds. I've tried almost everything to fix the problem, and Sony's tech support hasn't gotten me any closer to a solution. I was told to change one of the primary IDE channels on the drive from "DMA if available" to "PIO Only" and i didn't notice any difference - I've wasted tons of blank discs testing it, and still getting the same result. Can anyone help me with this?

Doesn't seem to recognize the disc in the drive. Have you tried another brand of disc?

It also says your hard drive is not in DMA mode, and if thats true then that will slow down transfers and can cause errors. But that could just be an error with Nero the info if the drives are connected to SATA/RAID controllers - which is pretty common now.

You're also not using the latest version of Nero, download from here:

I'd probably reinstall the VIA chipset drivers too:

Then check to see what mode the drive is in:

the discs i'm using are Verbatim DVD-R

I have uninstalled and re-installed the driver but still no luck, any more advice would be greatfully received

yes if you have a user name in your system then its a matter of including your username in the administrator group. this will give you the burning rights to do just that... as you realize that you can do it if your system is in admin mode.

Did you just install this burner? or has it been installed and working fine till now? if you just installed it make sure you have the jumper properly set. also check in device manager under IDE ATA|ATAPI Contollers, look under the advanced tab on the IDE channel the drive is on and make sure it is operating in DMA mode and not PIO mode.

A few days ago I tried to burn a cd using windows media player.(I am using version 10 and I am running wndows xp home edition) up until that point it had been working fine. well right now it will inspect and convert but it will not burn. it will tell me that the cd is dirty or damaged and that I should try a new one, lower the speed or try a another brand of cd's. I have done all of that to no prevail. Now apparently I can still burn using windows but only in data format. I have also installed all driver updates. Another odd thing is that now my bro's wmp can't burn and his computer is brand new.

Could anyone please help me with this problem? it would really be appreciated

I burned a couple of AVI clips using Ashampoo to cd. When I played them back using Media Classic the system hung up. Got a error message "Explorer encounted a problem" explorer restarted. Tried viewing with Irfranview same thing hapened. Next I tried using Windows Media Player, I was able to view the clips.I've been able to view all movies, clips, videos, etc with Media Classic. The codecs are the latest for the Media classic.
When I burned the clips did a straight "copy files/folder" to cd. When I check the properties of the copied clips its the same as the original clips.
Is it something I'm doing wrong?

I have a problem burning CD's or DVD's. If I try to do it straight from Windows Explorer it just hangs. If I try from Nero it goes for a while (Usually 28 seconds!!!) then hangs. I have replaced the entire drive and the problem has persisted. I have uninstalled the driver and let it reinstall and again no change. It used to work OK then this started a few weeks ago. There was nothing significant that happened at that time other than this. Running XP. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

A:CD/DVD Burning Problem

If you could provide some more information, we can provided you with an accurate diagnosis much more quickly. What brand is the burner, and do you have the latest drivers/firmware? What version of Nero are you using? Do you try to use Nero immediately after using Windows Explorer's integrated burning extension? Is this a new problem and have you made any recent changes to system settings or hardware configuration?

Without this information (pending your next reply), i cannot provide you with a solution; however, my initial thought is that the Windows Explorer burning extension is being activated and then locking your drive (preventing other programs from accessing or using it), which is what causes Nero to hang. The Windows Explorer burning extension is not very elaborate and often provides inconsistent/undesirable results.

With this in mind, i would recommend that you first check for updated drivers and firmware. Once your drivers and firmware are up to date,

1. restart your computer and then "refresh" your CD drive. Simply insert any CD with data into your drive and allow Windows to search the disc and load any auto run software. This will unlock the drive (just in case you have persistent programs locking your drive) and allow other software to use it once the data CD is ejected.
2. Just for redundancy, restart your computer again and allow it to boot/load up completely. Do not insert a blank disc at this point, i will get to that in a few moments!
3. Open Nero and begin creating you new CD/DVD. Wait until you press "burn" and Nero asks you to insert a blank disc before you insert a disc into the drive. After the disc has been inserted, Nero will being to burn the disc (hopefully ).

If this does not work, reply back with the information i requested at the top of my post, and we can work out another solution for you!

So I use a blank CD, I burn music onto it and then when it's done, I play it back on my laptop but it says there's no disk in the drive..and won't play, and when I try to open up music programs like Windows Media Player, they freeze up like crazy and are blank..I don't know what's going on, it just frustrates the heck out of me because I can't burn a simple CD.. -_-
It won't even play on my boombox..nothing..and yet the program I used(Free Easy Burner) said it finished burning and everything was successful.

Anywho, can someone please help me out, I am trying to get this CD to work/play, but it won't..does anyone know how I can fix this.?
Do I need to purchase a different type of blank CD..or what?

-Can someone please help me out.?

A:Burning Problem

very tricky this it depends on the size and compression of whats on the discs and what distortion you may suffer by trying to merg the 2 together,if the total is less than a dvd say 4.6 gb then it should be possible but not without its problems, what you maybe could try is to filter the discs of any rubbish you do not want to decrease their size then burn if size is compatable with a standard dvd disc, try dvd shrink but i doubt it will work this is for shrinking not copying as is illegal

Recently whenever I write a DVD data disc Nero will appear to burn it fine, but when I put the disc back in to read it opens up like a blank disc with no files.
It does the same when I burn DVD video discs, except they'll work on my DVD player.
The drive has no trouble reading other discs, CD or DVD.
From the bottom of the burnt discs I can see that a volume of information has been written to it, I just can't work out why my drive wouldn't be reading the discs it just wrote. Can anyone help out, please?

I have trouble being able to burn. I am using a LITE-ON 16X DVD Burner and it is not cooperating. I have tried Nero 7 Ultra, Roxio Easy CD Creator 9 and Ashampoo Burning Studio 6.

I am trying to back up some wmv files to a DVD and it "hangs" at the beginning of the process. My worst case scenario: the computer restarted every single time I tried to burn using Nero.

What could be the problem? How can I resolve this? The drives are functional for everything else and I have swapped the drive to my other tower and it burns on the other tower.

Edit: when I say back up, I mean Data-DVD...not actual DVD playable on a player

When I inserted a blank CD - and I attempted to copy from the Media Library to the CD it said no CD was found. I had it in - but it would not recognize it. What is the problem and how can I correct it.

Thank you.

A:CD Burning Problem

How did you "attempt to copy" onto the CD?

By the nature of the CD technology, they are not "drag and drop" unless you run packet writing software, and then that requires CD-RW media (and is notoriously unreliable at times as well).

You need to run the CD burning application that would have been bundled with the Dell, and select the files you want to burn from within that.

As long as the media you have is compatable with the burner, it should work OK.

Why are you using both "DVD Santa" AND "DVD Shrink"?

DVD Shrink on it's own does the job nicely.

Oh, and as a reminder, this is a Vista forum. You should direct question about Santa or Shrink to any appropriate forums for that software.

I'm using Nero with my new PC to burn CDs. All went OK when I tried burning two of them (using MP3s off my hard drive) and my PC could see and play all the tracks with Media Player.

However, when I put the CDs into a normal CD player - the one in my car and a couple of others in my home, they will not play!

Anyone have any ideas? I tried halving the write speed for the second CD and still get the same result. Also, the CDs I'm using worked fine on my old PC and using WinOnCD 3.8.

Should I try different software or should I maybe pick the MP3 disk option instead of the Audio CD option?

Check the transfer mode of the drive.

Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS and check the properties of the Controller. Check the transfer mode of the each of the devices. All the drive should be running in DMA mode ranging from DMA 6 for hard drives to DMA 2 for Optical Drives. If any drive is in PIO mode then thats likely the problem, with PIO you would be limited to very slow speeds.

Also, make sure you Nero and InCD are fully up-to-date:

Also download Hijacthis:
Save it and Extract it into its own folder so it can save backups if they happen to be needed. Then run it and choose to do the scan and save log option. Copy and Paste the results of that log into a post. If the system is being taxed by something else its not gonna be able to transfer as fast.

Also defrag the hard drive.

From what I understand, this is a common issue. First, check the obvious things. Update everything that neesd to be updated.

Other than that, it is common for cd's and dvd's burned on one brand of drive not to work on another brand. All you can do is make sure that you have the right software for your drives, the right drivers, and the correct disks. Using DVD's for dvd exclusive writers and cd's for cd exclusive drives, etc.

I have tried only having one of each of these installed at one time, but it still didnt work. Once in a while like 1 out of 30 a cd will actually burn. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I have burned cd's in the past with no problem.

If you've tried different media, have you tried blowing the dust out of the CD drive? If it dies at about the same place, it would appear it might be a mechanical issue with the drive...

I have a laptop with Windows XP and have been having problems burning my music to a CD-R off and on now for awhile. I get this message "Windows Media Player has encountered an error while burning the CD. Verify that the CD burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged". I use a CD for cleaning the lens and using a good CD-R which I just bought. I also changed the burning speed on my computer on the properties section of that drive from fastest to 16x. This is not the first time I am trying to do any burning, but in the past it has been sucessful. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Hewlett Packard CD writer cd4e series and it is only accustomed for up to Windows Me. I tried to download something at the Packard site to help with defining it for Windows XP, which I have on my pc. Now my cd writer is telling me there is a script error and the writer won't come up. I also have a Nero thing on my computer but do I need to use a writer for this process. I had it installed and don't even know how to use it! :{ I thank you for help in advance.

A:cd burning problem

When you say
"but do I need to use a writer for this process"
What process are you refering to? The recognition of the drive? It's an external USB drive, is that correct? When you plug it in, does it show up in control panel? Have you installed the 'something' you downloaded from the HP site?

Make sure DMA is enabled on the drive by checking the drives properties in device manager.
Try installing forceaspi.

If it still won't work, update the drives firmware..

I cannot burn a CD. The CD Writing Wizard goes through all the normal functions, but when it's ready to burn, it seems to seems to skip the step. When the wizard finishes (CD does not burn), it says, "There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable." I have tried using different discs; I was even able to erase a CD-RW. I looked at Microsoft's knowledge base for answers, and the things I have tried have not worked. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm using WinXP, Nero and an Asus DRW-0402P/D drive.

I have win xp pro sp2, windows media player and nero 8.

System shows pioneer dvd-rw dvr-115d but wmp and nero only see the drive as a cd player.

I have ungraded the firmware from pioneer, tried updating nero, and removed nero completely but to no avail. I have also reverted to wmp 10.

Can anyone give help me?

I have a group of mp3's, (all acquired from the same source), that are causing me a problem when I go to burn them onto an audio CD. I don't have a problem burning any other mp3's.

The mp3's in question all play fine on the computer. I used winamp to convert them to wav and again they all play fine on the computer. Then when I start my burning software I'm getting an error message "not enough room on cd". I know that the cummulative size of these wav files is well under 700 megs. What might be unique about these files?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all, Happy new year from Colombia.
I don't know if this is the correct thread. I'm having a problem with a movie I want to burn on a DVD for my collection. Every time I want to burn it the software don't accept it. I have converted from MP4 to AVI to Matroska to WMV and others and simply the burning software does not accept the movie for burning. I have used several software including V2D, CDBurnerXP, Imgburn Nero etc. all with the same result. The film can be successfully watched on my desk top. What to do? Thanks

All media files could be burned to a regular DVD disc (up to 4 - 4.7 GB)provided you choose the Data Disc.  If you pertain to a DVD format, convert it first using this

Lately when I try to burn a CD using Windows Media Player, I get this: Windows Media Player encountered a problem while burning the file to the disc. For additional assistance, click Web Help.

I know it's not the kind of discs I'm using, because I've burned stuff to them before. I've tried setting a lower burn speed, I've tried burning different files, and I've even tried burning files that I burned to discs before. I've checked for updates for the media player, but there aren't any.

I don't think the problem is with the lens, because my computer is still able to read discs.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Any advice on what I can do to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever I try to burn a cd it says; Cannot complete the CD Writing Wizard. There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write "may no longer be usable" ?

Or, it says; This CD "does not have enough free space for the files". This happens when the file I am trying to burn is relatively small and the CD has never been used before.

I a little confused with what is happening here. Please help!!!

I have tried both Roxio and Nero. They both seem to stop just before the writing to the disc seems to start. The drive acts as it is writing and after 5 minutes I noticed that the progress bar hadn't moved from 1%

Any suggestions?

My friend needs to burn photos to a cd on a regular basis It has been working for a few months now it is failing His usual process is that cd's burning Problem he selects about photos goes to Share gt Burn to disc It then opens File Explorer shows the DVD drive with the photos in there and then burns the disk and ejects Problem burning cd's it When asked I choose to burn it quot like a flash drive quot But now it has started to fail in this process Sometimes it just stops right after it puts the photos in File Explorer in the dvd drive window and leaves them there without burning Sometimes it continues to the next step and seems to burn them but they are not on the disk And sometimes it completes and works correctly I've tried it twice today It seems to go through the burning process But when I eject the disk and put it back in it is blank although the disk name is today's date so it apparently at least started the burn process And then it shows a pop up bubble saying there are files waiting to be burned to disc and it shows the photos waiting there under Files Ready to be Burned to disc I've also tried the disk in another computer and it confirms the files are not on it but it too shows the disk name as today's date Then I did it a second time same procedure and it worked fine Any ideas Thanks

I am honestly not sure if this should go here...but I have a friend who has a dell computer with XP home edition installed. When she burns a cd of music (using nero 6) the cd is not recognized after the burn is complete. I burned a music cd on her machine and immediately played it in the machine (using musicmatch). Then I played the same cd on my computer using winamp. When I tried to play it in her computer it would not recognize the cd. Kept saying "Please insert cd". I then went and installed winamp on her machine and was able to play it. But she cannot play the cd in her car. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

A:Problem burning a cd

First off make sure it is not a RW CD. Also there could be a problem with the burner. If it is the only CD ROM device onthe computer it should assuming that the computer uses (IDE) be on the secondary IDE channel and be the master device rather then slave. THis is assuming that you are dealing with one hard drive and one CD R ROM DRIVE.

Hi, im having a weird problem, you see..
first i burned some data files into a new dvd, closed sesssion, as i would do with any cd, the computer ejected the dvd, and so far no problem
then i reinsert it and do the same (burn new files), it starts burning and then... closes session and ejects the same dvd and...when i want to see it if burned correctly, i can only see the files i burned the first time. the point is that the free space of the dvd is considerely reduced, just as if it had burned the new files correctly, but there are no new files...
the weird thing is that when i inserted this dvd into a windows xp computer , the new files are there... why cant i see the files in the computer with windows vista i used to burn them? hope someone knows about this issue...

Hi Everyone,

Would someone please tell me how I can burn an mp3 cd with the songs in the order I want them? I tried setting up a playlist in Musicmatch Jukebox and burning it from within that program, but after doing so, I noticed it put all the tracks in alphabetical order.

Is there a way around this? Thanks.
