Will My Home Network Work?

Q: Will My Home Network Work?

Hi there,

I am new to home networking.

I am trying to connect 2 of my apartment with network as well as all my rooms.

I wonder if my networking will work in this way? Please advise if I need to change any devices.

Preferred Solution: Will My Home Network Work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hmm that diagram is most interesting - - and imo hard to determine what's what.

Try something like:

isp==modem/router --- wired --- ?
+ - - - wifi - - ?

Someone at home uses their laptop at workplace and connect to the workplace network and come back home to use the home network.

I heard that work place is a very dangerous place.

How do the rest of the home network user protect themselve from the work PC.

A:Using work network and home network safely

what do you mean 'work place is a very dangerous place'?
I am using my workstation at home without any issues. It can be dangerous, if the security at work is low. But at my company, Security is at the highest possible level (can't even turn on Gtalk, or update stuff to SkyDrive, Skype and facebook forbidden).

but anyway, lets go back to you question: You want to protect your home network from the work PC.
Well, why do you need to use your work PC at home? Just don't use it and that is it. If you need to use it, then scan it with anti-virus software and check if there are any malicious stuff on it.

A:Network connection at home and at work

Yes I'm pretty sure the way to do it is to have the IT configure the work IP and DNS
as an additional static address in the advanced option of the network adapter.

A:Different Network Connections for Home & Work

All you have to do is go to Control Panel and double click on Network and Dial-up Connections. Now click on Make a New Connection and follow the intructions. Now you will have 2 Network icons in your Network Neighborhood Properties. Configure one for your work and one for your home. Now when you to work just disable the home network and enable your work network and vise versa for your home network. Now all you have to do is disable and re-enable whatever network icon you want. It's faster then reconfiguring your network for each different network.

A:Network work laptop to home PC

Totally remove all your home setup, and start from scratch... otherwise, info you cannot see is detected. Then you set up the home system with the identical parameters... if it is possible to do so... but if the routers are a different brand, you are going to need to know your stuff. There are some excellent books avaible... you might find one used on Amazon, or at your library.

i did not understand the different between home/work and public

should i keep both enabled ?
or should i turn off one?

best regards

A:question about network Home/work or Public

I won't pretend to be an expert on the subject, since I only started using a LAN network recently myself, but since there is only 1 PC involved, and you say nothing about needing to connect to some other network via the internet, I don't understand why you need either? Perhaps if you explained more fully as to how you use a network it would help get a better answer.

EDIT: Rethinking the question and what I said, it dawned on me that the OS treats peripherals such as routers, modems and printers as part of a network. If your network is limited to these, all that you need is to setup a home network, not work or public.

Is there a way to connect to my school network from home? I'm a grad student and need to have access to journal articles while at home. When I go to to look-up an article at home, it asks for a user-name and password. It doesn't ask that when I'm at school. So this means they verify the IP address to see if I have subscription to the website.

I'm not sure if it would help, but I have a Win7 PC connected to the school network in my lab. I don't want to use LMI because it is painfully slow.

A:Connect to work/schook network from home

I assume that you have login credentials for accessing the server from your machine at school.

You should try entering this into the ID request box. If you are on a domain system your User ID may need to be in the format domain/user.

If this does not work you may need to ask your IT department in school to adjust your login credentials to allow remote access. These are also the people to talk to if you do not know your ID and password (autologin)

When I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit I chose HOME. I have Norton Internet Security 2013 installed. My PC uses ADSL Broadband connection. Should I change the Internet connection to "PUBLIC" (from the Network and Sharing Center) for added security or can I leave it as "HOME"? Adsl is treated as a LAN and my concern is that if set to HOME the PC is shared in the network?? Thanks

A:Should I choose HOME,WORK or PUBLIC Network?

It wont get shared in the network, unless you tell it to. all it does is classif the connection as safe

I ignorantly changed to a home network on an old work laptop and then restarted. My old login credentials do not work. I have a lot of docs, files, etc. saved on my c drive under my old domain login. I have the Administrator pasword, but do not know what to do to get "re-authorized" into my old domain account? or to reset the computer to a time before I made that change? Any help?

A:Changed work domain to home network. Going Back?

To get "re-authorized" in the old domain you would have to connect the computer to the domain and have it rejoined to the the domain by someone with the required domain privileges.

Because one PC we used to change adapter to access at home network, then it could remember and access just one network: Home network. It means correct for our purpose.
But others Pc are not the same. Therefore we solve it by disable network adapter, then enable to force it access only Home network in every time we switch on PC.

please see some pics

This problem happen in win7 Home basic and ultimate.
Maybe happened in others type too.

thank you very much for your kindness

I am using a Work Network on my computers (4 total) with a shared printer.

Can I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and set up a work network?

If not, do I have to use Professional or Ultimate versions?

I don't use/need any of the extra functions that Professional or Ultimate versions offer.

The network is used to share/transfer files to other machines and for sharing a single printer.

Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Work Network Possible on Win7 Home Premium 64bit

Define or explain what you mean by "work network"? If you are not connecting to a Domain any version of Windows 7 should be OK. I don't believe Home Premium can join a Domain, you would need Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise for that.

Just got a refurb laptop. Connected it to the work network. Shows connected to unidentified network and no internet access, both plugged in and wireless. I take it home or to our other site and connect wireless with no problem. This is the only machine with Windows7 on the network. We have 18 other machines and ipads on the network with no issues. This is my third day trying things that have been suggested with no luck. The frustrating part is that the laptop works and the network is fine.

OK, I just thought of something. The problem started at the same time I powered up my wife's new iPad4. So, after turning off the iPad 4, I was able to log on. Since I completely bounced the network (unplugged and left unplugged the MI242WR), I would think that would release all the IP addresses in the router. I am back to work, and afraid to turn the iPad back on.

A:Epson Photo R200 printer will not work on home network

Hello Marymount. Welcome to the forum.

You can usually install the XP driver for the Epson printer onto the XP PC (Computer B) and then add it as a network printer using "Add a Printer".

But, if you do not need the full functionality of the driver software you can install the printer on Computer B without installing the driver package. You just need to be able to find the .inf driver files inside the folder in the driver package so you can copy them or point XP to them. If it is an All-in-One printer there will be 3 .inf files (printer, fax, scan).

I've done it this way before:
(With the Epson and Computer A on and connected to the LAN, and working on Computer B)
1. Copy Driver files to Computer B (folder), or a USB stick
2. Start > Settings > Printers > Add a Printer
3. Select Network Printers
4. Search for printers > STOP when it finds the Epson> Select the R200 > Next
5. "Windows can't find a driver > OK (Search Manually)
6. Browse to the folder where the driver files are stored > OK
7. Windows finds, connects, and installs all drivers
8. Print a Test Page
9. Finish

Hope that helps.

Hey people. So I am connected to internet to fiber optic, so there's no modem, or router, just the Ethernet cable that goes to my Ethernet card. What option should I choose in the Network Sharing Center? Home, Work, Public? I use this connection at home, but since it's fiber optic, it's more like a LAN connection. What should I choose to make sure nobody sees my files, uses my printers and stuff like that? Thanks

From the connectivity aspect Work, or home makes virtually no difference.
If your hardware is relatively new (ie the last year) I would use Homegroup, if an older legacy system I would use workgroup.

Situation- month old Dell XPS Win bit Pro as main computer connected by Wired Adapter Upgraded Gateway E also running Win bit pro as says set network no join home can't but network 7 Win homegroup, Home second connected by Wireless Both running Kapersky successfully no network problems for mo Both were successfully linked using homegroup Had to take Gateway to a remote location to do a business demo While there had to link to a local public WiFi While connecting made mistake and left homegroup When Gateway returned to homebase a Home network set but Win 7 says can't join homegroup, no home network few days later it was fine had no problems finding wireless but could not see or rejoin Dell machine homegroup It would let me set Home network set but Win 7 says can't join homegroup, no home network up a new homegroup Went to Dell box and found homegroup no longer existed router and network and wireless printing no longer found - Red X on the taskbar even though internet was still working fine Took nearly a week of trying differernt fixes on adapter- off adapter- different adapter reboot network router even updated router firmware Yes I went through every ipconfig reset renew redecorate etc I've used netsh functions to try Home network set but Win 7 says can't join homegroup, no home network to get evrything to reset Changes services msc settings per other posts Finally in desperation deleted every sub key in the registry related to network locational awareness and got the Dell to find the network let me set it up as a quot home quot network and then even see the invitation to join the Gateway's homegroup Then I hit a wall- when I try to join- Win says I can't join the homegroup because the network is not a quot home network quot Of course troubleshooting is useless and goes into an endless loop Have searched in desperation for any way to make Win return to a clean slate so it can sense that it really is on a home network without success Applied the fix-it and hotpatch for when Win gets stuck in public mode No joy Deleted the hide wizard subkey as suggested elsewhere No Joy Gut feeling says problem must lie in the NLA or peer networking somewhere but where Does anyone know of a method or set of steps short of a clean reinstall of Win to completely clear every thing the OS knows about my network and force it to acknowlege my network is a home network Is there a registry hack that will clear the problem I know I could abandon the homegroup and do conventional file print share but I am concerned that using that solution won't last as whatever is screwing up the homegroup could eventually screw regular sharing and then I'm back to reformating reinstalling I'm just about ready to join the Apple folks so I never have to work on Windows again Help

I'm currently having the same problem . I open the .vob file set the output folder , settings etc etc . just as it was about to start converting , WME just stops and crashes . I use windows xp home edition so if your company's xp professional can make it work im thinking it is something in the professional edition which allows it to work not something in our edition that doesnt allow it to work. Are there any alternatives for encoding a video? i dont have much cash right now so i was hoping i might find some freeware alternatives . thanks

I did not set up my pc's to share over my home wireless network, but suddenly today I see that all drives and the printer are available between each computer. I had tried to set up the computers to share months ago, but never got it to work and gave up.

The desktop is old, running WinME, one laptop is running WinXPpro, the other laptop is running Vista. They are all connected to a Westell router/dsl modem for internet through Verizon.

So, I turn the desktop off daily. Today I go to turn it off and it says the WinXP laptop is connected and do I really want to shut down. I go to windows explorer on both machines and sure enough I have access to the other drives on each computer. I start the Vista machine and see the same.

Am I compromised?

A:MY home computers suddenly sharing over home wireless network

If you didn't make the change to share all drives, then somebody did. I would assume the worst. Time to reformat and reinstall.

Windows ME is past end of life, and no security updates are provided by MS. I wouldn't run it anymore. Maybe you'd want to try out some linux distros, some are quite good on old hardware. See this review:

It seems you don't have a separate router, I would advise you to get one. I have a modem/router too but I also have a separate hardware firewall/router. The modem/router does NAT but I constantly see connections/attacks making it past the modem/router to my firewall. Having a separate router is a good thing.

Since you are using wireless, did you enable the encryption? If you have WPA or WPA2 use them and setup a long and complicated passphrase. Use WEP if you have no other choice cause WEP can be broken into real quick. You must enable encryption because with wireless, all your machines are sitting ducks when you have close range attackers, whereas with wired, at least you still have a perimeter which you can fortify with a firewall. Also it is especially important to have software firewalls on Each PC when using wireless.

I have a home desktop computer, and a work laptop. Over the years I've changed laptops and home computers, and have always been able to get network sharing working so I can transfer files between them by using \\<hostname>

I've had my current setup for about 6 months now, and have been able to share files. Let's call my home computer "alien" and my work computer "laptop".

A couple of days ago, I found I was not able to connect to alien from laptop, but I could connect the other way. Also, alien can ping laptop, but NOT vice versa. alien has a static IP of, and laptop has an IP address of via DHCP.

Any ideas about why laptop cannot ping alien (which would explain why I can't connect to it)?

You may want to disable the antivirus software for testing. With the ping not working it would seem like something is blocking the connection. Do the machines appear in the network folder under network?

Obviously you should make sure that Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing are turned on in the Advanced Sharing settings.

Make sure they are on the same Workgroup etc. and that file sharing is enabled through the sharing tab >Advanced Sharing> of the C:>Users folder.

I have a network drive, which I set up to save a copy of a folder for offline use using the instructions here:
Working with network files when you are offline - Windows Help

I am not able to find any option for setting the drive to work online or work offline. I did manage to set it up to work offline yesterday, but forgot how. Now, I cannot find any work online or work offline button. Is it in a different place in 10?

A:work offline / work online button with network location

Reading the net, it appears that this is a pretty buggy implementation of working with network files offline. I was able to effectively use the offline files feature on another win10 machine. When I unplugged the ethernet cable, I could work with the offline files, and then when I plugged it back in, the computer went online and I synced the files. Back on the original machine, I turned off the 'enable offline files' option, rebooted, turned on the 'enable offline files' button, and rebooted. After this, the machine was still working offline. It said that the user had chosen to work offline (which was true at an earlier point). But there is no option anywhere to work online.

I followed the instructions to reinitialize the offline files cache as described here: How To Reinitialize The Offline Cache in Windows 7 . I found it elsewhere, and the general instructions are repeated on the internet in various places. This enabled the laptop to use the cached files online again. However, I still cannot manually get into and out of the 'work offline' mode. If anybody has any ideas, I would be grateful. If there is a registry value that would put things into and out of the 'work offline' mode, I could at least write a batch file to do this.

I am using Windows 7 on my laptop and I have question about when to use "Home", "Work" and "Public" profile.

If I am logging in without setting password, and I am logging in network with "Public" profile, then will any other user, who can see my computer, be able to enter my computer and check the contents on my computer ?

I am connecting to a network and there are 6 other users connected to this network. In the set network location window, if I select the netwoek as "Home", does it mean that other 6 users will not be able to see my computer on network and if I use "Public", then all other six users will be able to see my computer on network ?

I had to reformat my computer and am using windows 7 pro 64 bit. After getting Windows 7 back onto my computer, I was trying to use my home network to pass file between my desktop and to the a laptop. It wouldn't let me do either. I then looked at network sharing and it showed that neither my home network or home group was there. So I tried to set up another home group, and it gave me the following error:

"Must have IPv6 to create or join a home group".

When I go and try to start my IPv6 through the trouble shooter, it shows being started, but it still will not let me either join or create a home group.

Any ideas????? I hope this explanation is clear enough.

So i'm having an issue connecting my desktop to my home network for file sharing. My Desktop is connected to the internet like so: Desktop ->(Ethernet cable)-> Uverse 2wire router -> Internet.

I have no issues with my internet connection, and in fact I am posting this from my desktop now. Windows Network Diagnostics finds no issues when I run the trouble shooter. and when I try to connect to a home group it refers me to the network issue.

This issue has plagued me for about 6 months now. I have talked to Uverse tech support, and many of my friends who are into computers and have gotten no answers. Computer is running windows 7 SP1 and again the router is the Uverse 2wire router

Hi there, I use Wireless internet for both my pc and laptop, and connect through my BT Homehub. But whenever I open the wireless connections tab, it always shows a Talk Talk Wireless option along with the BT one which I use (and sometimes a 3rd connection that is unknown to me).
I think my network is secure, as I have to put a network key in before it will connect to the internet on the PC, but when I connect to the internet on the laptop no key is required, (so unsure a bit now) but I just wanted to make sure that the Talk Talk connection and the other one that is showing, is not somebody who can see all of the files on either my pc or laptop.
Just wanted some advice really, to make sure I dont have anybody viewing my files etc. Thank you in advance.

Dumb question here: I have just one computer. When I connect to the internet via dial-up, my computer says I'm part of a network and it wants me to choose between Public Network and Home Network.

I'm assuming the "network" detected is my dial-up connection and that I should choose "Public Network". Am I assuming correctly, or is my network type selection irrelevant to my dial-up settings.

A:Home Network, Public Network & Dial-Up

The security is different between the two. Unless you are out looking for wifi hot spots "public", then you should use the Home networking feature, although the workgroup may work better for you.

Hi everyone quick story to detail my exact problem though this thread showed the same problem with no working solution for me I installed Win on a separate partition use Win Ultimate x normally and was using it It worked fine I connected my iPhone to charge it when the phone automatically activated a tethering app This instantly switched my wired network connection to the USB connection which I immediately disabled As soon as I did that my wired connection my hard wire internet not the tethered iPhone connection stopped working and showed the network only as quot Unidentified network Thus the error Now I followed all of the instructions in the previously linked thread I even reformatted my hard drive to for Unidentified network home error Network no avail Microsoft support wants me to pay not gonna happen Furthermore I know it isn't a router or actual network issue because my desktop is the only machine with that problem My xbox was streaming TV over the same network when it all occurred and Unidentified Network error for home network it is doing so as I type this I switched the cables obviously rebooted multiple time the whole nine yards What makes it worse is every time I try to diagnose the problem Windows just tells me to reset my router I even tried that but obviously it didn't work After every reboot my IP changes back to a address Every time I manually set it no change It seems like no matter what I do it won't get fixed The only thing Microsoft support said I should do is search for updated drivers for my NIC This shouldn't be necessary since I reformatted once before and I didn't need to update my drivers to access the internet I'm about a day away from just scrapping the whole thing for parts Any help is greatly appreciated

A:Unidentified Network error for home network

It sounds like your machine is having a hard time picking up the router. The 169 address is what you get when the router isn't being picked up by the machine. It's like a generic IP that Msoft uses when nothing is available.

You also take your chances plugging anything Apple into a Windows PC, seems to be when the problem started. That is what the entire Bonjour fiasco is about.

Have you tried updating the firmware on your router because something doesn't seem right there.

Updating the drivers might also be good advice. You haven't listed any system specs so I can't do that for you.

If all else fails you could try typing your default gateway from your router into your IPv4 settings window. The link below shows you how.

Hi - my first post so please be gentle with me I have an IBM R laptop running XP Home SP and a Dell desktop running XP Pro SP i have a printer connected to the Dell desktop I have two accounts home Home XP on print - Cannot network on the laptop - both set as administrator users From one I can always print to the shared printer over the home network without a problem however from the other I cannot and I get an access denied message Using this same account if XP Home - Cannot print on home network I try to access a shared folder on the desktop then I am prompted to login which I do using the Guest account After that I can then print OK Question is why with one of the accounts on the laptop does it always work OK whereas with the other it doesn t unless I try to access a network share first I cannot see any differences between the way the two accounts have been setup I m guessing that when I try to access the printer XP is using the Guest account to gain access to the desktop and failing with one account but not the other Once authentication has taken place by accessing a share then its OK How do I get XP to automatically authenticate when I try to access the shared printer Any help much appreciated TIA nbsp

Ive just installed W7 7600 HP on to one of our work PC's and it says its connected to an unidentified network. I cant change it to work network or even Home network but the strange thing is its working fine. All our other PC's can see it and share files on it etc and i have internet access on it.
This is the second time ive installed HP and the second time this has happened. In the past ive been using Ultimate and this didn't happen.
We use static IP addresses for our internal network with no DNS server.

Anyone got any ideas how i can change this network location. Im using HP as im testing it out for when my copy arrives in Oct but if this is a problem related to HP i might think again.

OK, first I have a desktop, win 7 pro 64. I never thought I'd own a laptop, need networks so I might have disabled something at some point.
(I've disabled everything I don't need for performance reasons - game/graphics rig)

It has 2 ethernet connections. 1 is to modem. 2 is open.

I recently bought a laptop, win 7 home premium 64.

So time for file sharing. Bought a crossover network cable.

Trying to set up a home network. Works on the laptop, but going through all the troubleshooters and all I get on the PC is 'cannot add home network to this computer'.

I can see and get into my PC from the laptop, but the PC won't register a network OR my laptop. (I actually want the opposite as it's easier to use the PC for transfers/work/etc...)

None of the troubleshooting in Win7Pro PC is working, any ideas?

(I've set both clocks to internet time, I have everything open to file sharing on both machines)

I did just notice that when I turn on file and printer sharing in network & sharing/advanced settings and hit save changes,

everytime I reopen the window it's set back to off. Doesn't matter how many times i turn it on and save, it always gets turned off again.

The problem is in bold. Once you disable those services all bets are off on the network sharing being functional until all your required networking services are all enabled and set to automatic.

You shot yourself in the foot by doing that and disabling those services doesn't do much to improve system performance.

The reason that file and printer sharing isn't staying on is because you disabled the service it requires.

A:Windows XP Home "My Network Places" refusing to show network computers

You need to look at the dependency list for each service. In the case of Computer Browser, it's Workstation and Server.

Since Workstation is failing, that's probably the place to start.

Do you have WKSSVC.DLL in C:\Windows\system32? That's the workstation service, and it appears to be the missing module. I'd first try copying that from the installation disk, if it's missing, and then register it too by:

Start, Run, regsvr32 wkssvc.dll

If you can't find the DLL, you can run sfc /scannow to restore missing files.

A shortcut may be to download the file from DLL Dump and register it as described above.

If your work has a VPN connection you can speak to your IT Dept about giving you access to it, Then you can remote desktop into your work computer to do all the work right on your work machine. Also there are services like GoToMyPC that will allow you to work on your work computer. But check with your IT Dept that it is allowed first.

From home I VPN into work using a secure account and remote desktop into any computer that has my account (we use active directory). No problems!

Here is the issue. If before I go to work I VPN in then try and remote into that computer from work it kicks me off and then drops connection (Everything else works).. I assume this is because i've kicked off my account with the VPN connected lol, of course it would drop.

Whats the best way to do this? do I have to make my own VPN incoming connection from my home computer? I know I can use hamachi but there must be a cleaner solution.

I have a question regarding Cisco Anyone VPN

If VPN is connected from home-computer to a work computer and Im at home, the remore desktop have been shut down so I cant see the the work computer anymore but the VPN-icon is connected in the taskbar..... Can than anyone at work see all activity what I am doing at home?

A:Can anyone spy from work to my home with VPN?

I think you mean Cisco AnyConnect VPN.

If you are in fact using the AnyConnect Client, it depends on how your company has set up the VPN policy and the access rules they've put in place. If they set up the VPN connection to be a split tunnel configuration along with a IP any any rule on the tunnel traffic, yes, anyone on your corporate network will be able to hit your computer and then launch connections from your computer to the rest of your home network. If split tunneling is not enabled, the people on your corporate network will only be able to get as far as your computer.

If your company is running the clientless WebVPN, then they won't be able to get to your home network or your computer.

The main thing is how much access they have to your home network is based on rules your company's network administrators set. You have no control over this. So either you need to make sure you segment off your computer that you use to connect into your company's network or you just make sure you don't do anything/have anything which would embarrass or incriminate you.

I teach school and a major virus affected our computers. I had used my flash drive and then used it at home. My home computer will come on and my monitor screen is half black. You can still see the icons and click on them, but the background is black. Then after I am on for a few minutes the monitor turns off and after 1 to 5 minutes it comes back and the background has changed to a really funky color. The icons are bigger and the color is like infared. Really weird and once when I moved the mouse the colors all blended together and kind of like imprinted the hourglass all over the screen, like in Kidspix. Please respond with something I can do because whatever it is is keeping me from accessing the internet.

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

Click on "Check All"

Click Scan!

When finished, it shall produce main.txt and extra.txt for you. Post those here.

The gist of it is already in the description.

What I want to know is this:
My printer I have at home (Canon MS560) has WiFi built in.
The other day, I set up a shared network connection in which the printer is one unit. FIY: the network-router uses DHCP.

All in all, I can print wirelessly from my laptop successfully as long as I'm within the router's wireless range.

Is it somehow possible for me to print a document from my laptop, provided I've activated the printer, from work? (Out of wireless range?)

Without having to use a 4 mile long cable... (imagine the static!)

Quick idea, possibly via the internet-connection I use at work?
All further questions will be answered.

I keep getting asked by family and friends to help with their PCs you know how that feels and when I ask about their installation media I just get blank looks So I thought I would look at creating using my own media I have been using VMs for testing these so much better than playing with someone's PC I have ISOs for both and which I downloaded using Windows and Windows Can't ISO and DVD work get both Professional with Home to ISO - Download or Create The Can't get DVD ISO to work with both Home and Professional licence key I used for the download was my legitimate one that I purchased from Microsoft so it wasn't OEM it is actually an upgrade key from Windows for Win Pro I can install these ISOs no problem but they always install the Pro version and I never get an option for installing Home I tried putting a ei cfg file in the sources directory containing EditionID Can't get DVD ISO to work with both Home and Professional Channel Retail VL But this just allows me to install without the key I tried putting both quot Core quot and quot Home quot in as an EditionID but Can't get DVD ISO to work with both Home and Professional the install process fails saying quot The product key entered does no match any of the Windows images available for installation Enter a different product key quot If I try using the downloaded iso without the ei cfg file but instead use the generic key for Home I get the same message So I'm pretty sure the downloads I got from MS just contain Pro Is this right or is there a special way of making Home available Based upon what I have seen in the forums I would also probably need quot Home Single Language quot to be available as well if possible In case it makes any difference the ISOs I have always set their language to English United Kingdom during the install Thank You

A:Can't get DVD ISO to work with both Home and Professional

Those downloads are not multiple editions like the store bought DVD's are. I tested this myself, if you use a Pro key for the download, what you get can only install Pro, if you use a Core key its Core only. I do believe I actually posted it in that thread. I can understand you not wanting to read the whole thread, its a long one so you wouldn't have seen it. Based on what I discovered what you have will only install Pro. My TechNet/MSDN ISO's are multi edition and will install Core or Pro based on the key entered. My Windows 8.0 ISO's will read and use the OEM embedded key in my laptops BIOS and install Core automatically with no prompt to enter a key during install.

I have got a desktop pc running on win7 32 bit and I just bought myself a laptop running on win7 64 bit (both are win7 Home Premium).

I have a wireless router (a BT HOME HUB 2, which is hard wired to the desktop pc) I want to be able to connect my laptop to the home desktop pc via a wireless connection and look at files/folders etc and swap things between the two pc?s over the wireless network. I assume this is called networking two pc's (sorry for my ignorance)

Can I do this and is it easy to set up.

Thanks for any help guys

Have seen many of the "work at home" jobs and one was forwarded to me - acting as if you place want ads in supplied places - and then "have a new e-mail address" where the person replys to. My question is - you create a new hotmail account - [email protected] whatever - how can you be identified from the e-mail address? My concern is - should this not be a legal venture (no, I haven't signed up to do one - but it is tempting!) can you be traced if someone sends a fee through Paypal? I guess that is a stupid question, as the Paypal account would surely identify the person....just wondering. Hope someone can explain it! Thanks!

A:Web Work at Home Jobs - ? ID ?

Yes you can be traced via email alone as the ip address to send it can be used to identify your isp who can then identify you :)

I would like to set up something where I can work on my computer at home from anywhere. Much line logmein or show my PC. The reason for this is logmein runs so slow. Can someone make some suggestions what i can do to speed this up or software to use?

A:work from my computer at home

A very solid program is RADMIN

We used it between Toronto & Maryland to manage the software at the other end and to essential use the other end as if it was on our desk. It takes a bit to set it up so that you do not compromise security over distance but one up it is solid

I am trying to connect to my Home PC using "Remote Desktop Connection" from Work.

Configured @ Home
1. Check marked @ System Properties -> Remote-> Allow user to connect remotely...
2. Also at Select Remote Users, added my user login (not sure if I need this)

Also, not sure if it is important:
my home pc is connected to the Router and the router is connected to the internet
When I try to connect from my work pc
I don't even get the login window. Please see the attachment.

Hi I like the windows feature that you can chose with Share with not Home Work. but whether you're in a home work or public network What I don't understand Share with Home but not with Work. is why they have grouped home and work together in the quot advanced sharing options quot I use my laptop at home and for work and obviously I would like to share some private folders at home but not with my colleagues at work Is there a way to do that automatically I don't necessarily need to share anything at work though it would be nice to share certain folders with the whole work network and additional ones only with the whole home network I believe there is the option of creating a homegroup and a workgroup but there are Windows XP computers in both networks and I understand that it is not compatible I searched the internet for a long time but did't find ananswer to my question maybe I used the wrong keywords Thanks in advance

I have a new HP Spectre x360 with Windows 10 and Office 2016. I do lots of document editing and have always loved using the Home and End keys to navigate in my emails and other documents, but they don't work on this computer with the OS and software I have installed. Instead of moving to the beginning or end of a line, they only move one space in each direction. I need to figure out how to fix this and so far have not found anything out there to help. I have only one working hand, so unless there is a "permanent" fix, I would prefer something that doesn't require holding down the Windows key (for example) and some other distant key. Thanks!
