I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you told the shop that they installed the wrong BIOS?

The computer wont start.   After pressing "ON" one can hear a vibration sound, it turns on an orange LED.   Stays black for two  minutes; then screen does light to a dim night-blue color.     This is for a Split x2 13-g110dx (windows 10 64bit). Already tried:  hard reset and going to BIOS (Windows button + "B"). Also tried booting from  a USB drive.   It did not work (see screen below). Any suggestion(s) of how it can still be revived ("do it myself")? Thank you.                                       Screen message

Most newer AMI BIOS versions have a boot-block recovery, but that sounds like an older board. I suspect you may have to get a bios from a place like www.badflash.com

We have a client's laptop and we are having trouble recovering the bios on a HP Pavilion DV9700. We tried to update the bio recently. Before we did the update we checked the bios and saw that it was a HP Pavilion 9700 so I download the lastest bios and updated. Now the laptop will not display anything  on screen and all of the LED are on.  I looked up the P/N and found out that is a DV9910US laptop. HP is so confusing with their different models. Is there anything I can do to fix the bios on the system

Just got this laptop, and its having issues. Under the battery it says its a 1167dx, but bios/system info states its a G6 1028sr. It has the AMD 1.8 quad core like the G7 should as well as the radeon HD-4200. Only found the issue chasing down a black screen issue. Sometimes it will just flip to a black screeen, and freeze. Resulting in having to be powered down. Fresh install of windows has not fixed the issue. Went directly to AMD for graphics drivers and control catylst. Did a bios update to the latest version provided on the 1167dx support site, and it still has the wrong information as well as black screening when playing video. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hello, you're really limited as to what your options are here. You can try calling HP and see if they can walk you through doing a crisis recovery sort of thing. It will entail a key combination that will enable the Boot Block portion of the BIOS chip (if it has one)

I went through this last month with my DV9000 model. I searched the web for a few weeks looking for some kind of solution. I ended up sending it to aqstech a repair shop in NY for a BIOS rescue service.

PS, the repair cost me $99 + shipping.

I have a pretty serious problem that I was hopeing someone could help me with. I have an acer aspire one netbook D250. I tried to update the bios. When I ran the bios update utillity, my computer locked up. none of the buttons would work, nor the keyboard. Everything was unresponsive, and not like a normal software hang either. So, I waited for a half hour to see what would happen, and nothing happend. I eventually removed the battery to turn off the computer and restart. Only problem is, my computer won't restart. As a matter of fact it doesn't do anything. No lights, no sounds, not even a battery charger light. I went to acer site and found some instructions to fix my netbook, which said to unplug power cord and remove battery then hold power for 30 sec, but still not working.

Please help!!!!

My customer did a windows update then lost front usb ports.  After a reboot the system would loop with a message that windows is being repaired.  When I attempted to get to recovery and rollback changes, the video quit working, the mouse blinks once at startup, fans work and it is still looping restart. I looked into clearing bios but the documentation is incorrect. I noticed the recry jumper found out it's recovery crysis, but can't find any info.  Any ideas?

Hey, not sure if this was the right topic, i was unsure if this should go in "Security".

Anyways, a friend of mine is running a computer with XP, and has forgotten the password for his account. He can't go onto other users (his sister's for example) and remove his password from there, because he gave everyone else "restricted rights" accounts, and made his account the only administrator. I said I could re-install windows for him, start anew etc. and he's fine with it, as are the rest of the users. But, the local computer shop say they can remove the password, through BIOS.

I'm not completely computer savvy, but surely thats impossible? If you could remove passwords through the BIOS, a computer/harddrive could be stolen, and the passwords on the accounts would be useless. Can anyone explain the logic here please?

Thanks in advance

Obviously during the flashing of your bios, something has gone terribly wrong.

I fear that you may have to think in terms of a new mobo, unless of course your mobo manufacturer would be willing to let you have a new bios chip.

Contact you mobo manufacturer and see if there`s anything they can do for you.

I`m sorry if this isn`t of much help.

Good luck and regards Howard

A:HDD recovery, can't boot, is seen in bios, not in win xp Help please!

after you put the xp disc in
and do fresh boot up
make sure you have bios set to boot from cd first
when screen comes up asking what you want to do don't repair from here
if you have sata drive load the drives here then wait till xp finds the older OS here is where you tell it to repair
I do a small hdd repair service and this seems to be the most confusing part of W$K and XP_eration.
on the other hand you did not say if you tried to change boot order to boot from hdd first
it could be cd rom drive is bad

A:Possible bios recovery problem?

Hi, How do you know that the other devices are not being recognized?  Upgrading from one OS to another will not change the CMOS settings but removing the CMOS battery will in some cases.  Check the voltage of the CMOS battery. If it's not 3.3 volts then replace it.

This computer is second hand, I'm just letting you know right off the bat. I don't know what the BIOS password is, and I need to get to setup. I managed to determine my BIOSis from AMI, and here's what the AMI Utility got for me:

An AMIBIOS ID String Was Detected:

62-0510-009999-00101111-071595-000000
- ---- ------ ------
| | | |
| | | Chipset/BIOS Info
| | BIOS Build Date
| Manufacturer ID
BIOS ROM Information

AMIBIOS ROM Size: 256 KB
BIOS Build Date: Jul 15 1995
Motherboard Manufacturer Code: 9999Not listed in MAN.DAT file
AMIBIOS Build Tag: M758LMRE

SMBIOS info:

Manufacturer : PCCHIPS
Product Name : M758LMR
Version : 1.0
Serial Number: 00000000

Any ideas as to what I should do now? Any kind of software that can tell me what the password actually is? I know I can take out the battery, but I don't have the means to do so. Any help is much appreciated.

Greetings all! - my question, whats the easiest way to re-install the OS and Apps from an HP recovery cd, after the original hard drive (2.1gb) has been replaced by a new 20gb drive.?
HP Pav 8210, bios set auto - 8432mb, Samsung 20gb with Samsung DM ver 9 installed. boots to c:\ but (of course) recovery wont run from F10 command on bootup, due to drive overlay not been recognised by recovery disk - I dont think partioning the drive will help either in this instance. I see a little black "_" at the top left of the screen then the computer turns off. I've tried this 60+ tries. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the ram. So what do I do?

Attempting to reload win7, this dell desktop has 3 partitions showing as follows:

DISK 0 Partition 1 OEM 3.0MB
DISK 0 Partition 2 Recovery 12.3GB
DISK 0 Partition 3 OS Primary 285.7GB

First issue, when I had looked  for a Recovery partition in My Computer in windows, nothing was showing except for the C drive so I am not understanding why in the BIOS that 12.3gb Recovery partition is there? Also what's the purpose of the 3.0MB OEM partition please?

A:Why is a Recovery Partition showing in the BIOS?

You do not see it because I think there is no drive letter assigned to the partition. The 3MB partition I believe is Dell's diagnostic tools but I am not sure. It could also be the initial start of the recovery manager you access by tapping F8 > Repair Computer > Dell Recovery Partition

You can see your partition by opening a command prompt and typing the following

diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
list volume   Will show all drive letters on the computer
list partition  Will show all partitions on disk 0
exit

Unit refuses to boot. I have a double flash indicating corrupt Bios and I have tried the corrections suggested by HP (hard start, W button +B etc) without result. As I had some heating problems I replaced the processor as a first remedy. No improvement. The bios chip is solded on the motherboard so I am looking for a software metod to restore the bios before replacing the motherboard.  Any suggestions?

JimboMahoney,

The only thing that I can see you might not be doing right is the last couple steps. (make sure it is plugged in also)

4. Press and hold the Fn + Esc keys (this is the BIOS recovery hotkey), then press thepower button.5. Release the Fn + Esc keys after POST.

Of course, if there is no post screen at all appearing, if I understand what you are saying, then you might need to contact Acer technical support in your area and see what options are available.

Hello everyone Can't BIOS in mode the SSD but in boot recovery up - shows not My Zenbook crashed yesterday when I clicked OK to a quot LiveUpdate quot pop-up on my desktop Guess it was from Asus but I'm not sure as the pop-up didn't contain any text When I boot it gets to the pulsating Can't boot - SSD shows up in BIOS but not in the recovery mode Windows logo - after that I just get a black screen with a movable cursor None of the safe modes works - just black screens Can't boot - SSD shows up in BIOS but not in the recovery mode with quot safe mode quot written in every corner I've made a bootable USB with Win and that boots up fine to the install recovery mode - sometimes Sometimes it doesn't get that far it just goes to Can't boot - SSD shows up in BIOS but not in the recovery mode the black screen even though I'm certain it boots from the USB Weird Anyway the recovery mode can't find any system images and I can't see the SSD when I try the 'load the drivers' option HOWEVER the harddrive DOES show up in the BIOS but only IF the USB is in the machine I have an option to reinstall Windows I think but I would very much like to safe some files before the drive is formatted Help please

A:Can't boot - SSD shows up in BIOS but not in the recovery mode

Do any keyboard shortcuts work when you're left with a black screen and a lone cursor?

Ctrl+Shift+Esc would be the best to try. Does it show the Task Manager? From there you might be able to start Explorer or other programs.

Failing this, can you clarify a little bit? Booting in to Windows 7 Recovery shows that there isn't an operating system to repair, is that correct? Are you using the right Recovery CD/image for your version of Windows? Windows 7 x86, for example.

Have you tried booting in to safe mode with Command Prompt?

Don't stress. It looks like you're able to recover your files, even if you have to resort to a LiveCD or something.

My computer crashed AGAIN and I have gone through a long process leading to BIOS update and a repair of Windows. Apparently, my Office 2007 install was affected and now requires new authorization. Both the online and automated phone activation systems have rejected my license. (I have had the same copy for years since upgrading from Office XP and have successfully reinstalled after many crashes on my 2 PCs including having to go through the license rechecking process). What do I do now?

Hi, I want to do a system recovery because WIndows 7 has accumulated some errors that prevent me using some programs and I was wondering if: 1: The system recovery reinstalls original BIOS or not  ? The reason why it is so important for me to know is because i upgraded to a graphics card that required a BIOS update, getting only a black screen otherwise... According to the info on system recovery it says it reinstalls hardware drivers so I am expecting that to include the BIOS but just wanted to be sure... 2+3: There is a BIOS update for my PC under windows 8 options that says once installed, it cannot be reverted to a previous version.  Will system recovery still be able to rewrite the BIOS to a previous one? If I install that BIOS version, will it cause problems for my windows 7 system recovery ? Thanks for your attention !!!
