I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can buy a new bezel or plastic framework part from Sony for about $45 to $70, depending on the model. You have have to get a list of their outside parts vendors as Sony is a real pain in the rump to figger out how to get stuff.

How do you replace the keyboard on a Higrade VA250P laptop

A:Replace keyboard

I am not to sure about your particular model but laptop keyboards tend to be very similar.
At the top of the keyboard there should be a plastic bezel that needs to be removed.
Quite often there no screws holding this in place, if there are remove.
You need to get a thin piece of plastic a carefully prize the bezel off, I use a guitar pick.
Once off you should see about four screws, remove.
Now carefully lift up the keyboard and turn over, there should be a ribbon connected to the motherboard, this is held in place by two plastic clips that just slide out.
Word of caution, I have made a few assumptions here and your keyboard may be somewhat different, please be careful

Hello, I think time to replace my keyboad - had a soft space bar to begin with then I spilled wine into it and several buttons don't work or work all the time without pressing. I cannot find the correct part number for the keyboard. I tried the lenovo online part finder and it either shows nothing or an incomplete list. And the voice system just leads me to call som IBM 800 number and they did not answer yesterday (maybe Pres day??). Can someone help me find the correct part number for the keyboard? Also do these keyboard replacement instructions apply to the Yoga 2 13 (just 'peal' the keyboard out rather than disassemble the whole thing)?  Thank you.

I'm in same trouble: several keys don't work. Possible solutions: fix single keys (pretty easy but long lasting?): wanted to replace the whole keyboard, because about seven keys don't work. So in foresight that could last longer than changing single keys (like in the existing ifixit guide). But this really looks bad (removed mainboard etc.) : black spots aren't screws, they are rivets or I don't know how this is called correctly. So one chance might be: cut them all off. But how to fix the new keyboard afterwards?Any experience? Is the single key fix from ifix it always successful? My current idea: getting a "palmrest" (frame with keyboard) of exactly the same model.

I have a US Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop, which obviously has a US keyboard. I'm from the UK, and so am used to the UK keyboard layout, and just discovered that UK replacement keyboards are pretty cheap (not that I need to look at the keys as I type anyway, it would just be nice to have the proper keyboard).

Is it physically possible to change a US keyboard to a UK keyboard? The size of some keys are different (our Enter key is 2 lines high for example, and our Shift key's shorter). I'm not sure if the connectors underneath the keys are specific to the US layout or if the connectors underneath can apply to both a British and American keyboard layout? (or if the connectors come as part of the keyboard part itself?).

I've fixed the text in your post to the default size, you had made it gigantic for some reason.

I think you may have confused with another site. We don't have directions for changing keyboards in laptop unless you are referring to a specific thread where someone posted something in which case you need to provide a link to that thread for reference.

I did find a video for a similar model on YouTube that may help you get the keyboard off:

But, I've had to replace keyboards on two Dell laptops. One I downloaded the Service Manual for, followed the instructions and everything went smoothly. The other, I watched YouTube videos on how to replace the keyboard and had no problems doing so.

I think your best bet is to go to the manufacturer's support site and download the Service Manual for your particular laptop. Keyboards are one of the easier replacements.

Is your warranty valid?
In such case recommend contacting the ASP in your country to replace the kneeboard since this would be covered by warranty and it would be done free of charge.

As far as I know the keyboard replacement procedure is the same like for the R700 Portege series
It?s difficult because you will need to remove other parts like
Battery, sim card, express card slot, memory modules, base assembly to get access to an
aluminum tape from the back of the cover assembly. Then you could turn the cover assembly face up and peel off the keyboard adhered to the insulator.
And additionally you can not use the removed keyboard and keyboard insulator again. You will need to use new parts.

There is no official market for single keyboard letters and even if you could find one they are a real struggle to reinstall. It is much easier and only a little more expensive to just replace the whole keyboard. You can sometimes find entrepeneurial types on eBay who "part out" whole keyboards but they charge extortionate prices for a single key as you can imagine they would need to do in order to make a profit.  HP does not even sell just the keyboard, they offer the whole top cover and keyboard as a replacement part: For use in the United Kingdom and Singapore 809829-031  Try this guy from Poland. You should now see a row of four screws, remove.
Now carefully turn over the keyboard, you will see the keyboard is attached via a ribbon.
The ribbon is removed by carefully sliding the two white pins and then pulling the ribbon out.

After he left she wanted to switch back to her old keyboard because the letters were white and easier to read. She got it and found that he had cut the cord off a couple inches from the board. I guess he did that instead of pulling it through the hole she had it through. She gave me all her old equipment and just to see if it could be done, I removed all the screws and opened the keyboard up. There was a small circuit board held in by 2 screws and the cord was connected to it. I know they aren't very expensive, but I like to tinker with things. Can those be bought and replaced? Could someone from Lenovo let the forum know if it will be possible to replace the W540 Trackpad / Bezel / Keyboard assembly with the new one from the W541 which has integrated physical Trackpoint buttons.  This would make a very big difference to me and I suspect a lot of other W540 owners who use the Trackpoint. I am the current owner of 5 Thinkpads and have been a loyal customer since the 600 series. The increased pressure necessary to generate a less reliable click on the Trackpad has greatly exacerbated a problem with the top joint of my right thumb - I have had to retrain myself to use my left thumb to do all clcking.  The problem was nowhere near as bad on the old Trackpoint buttons - where I could use them with my right thumb for several hours with no symptoms, I can now manage only minutes.

A:Replace W540 Keyboard with W541 Trackpoint Buttons

Add me to the list of W540 that wish to have a real workstation with original IBM style trackpad WITH BUTTONS! Similarly, we need to somehow add an LED to indicate HD I/O's. Maybe integrate this into the new PROPER trackpad. Example: Right now I'm copying off my NAS, 2.5 gig of PDF files catalogued by Calibre. The transfer has been running over 2 hours and only 35% done, and I have NO IDEA if data is transferring when the screen blanks out.  Thankfully, Western Digital's external Passport drive has an LED that flashes with the I/O, and this is the ONLY indicator that tells me the NAS data flowing and being backed up to the USB drive. Crypting does slow the data. Now, I realize that what I'm doing is not the best - using my WiFi connect for the transfer and USB 3.0 -, which is slow on this 'marketing promoted' Workstation. Hopefully I stuck it in the right port, as none are color blue identified, left front. ....  I'm blue <g>.

Hello I need Replace in Find Column) different (but Replace & a to Find & Replace (but Replace in a different Column) know if there is a function perhaps a Macro or Query or a more complex Find amp Replace that can accomplish the following cause my database is huge amp I m hoping not to do this manually I keep an Access database for my homeowners association on the condition amp conformity of different exterior attributes for about townhomes The Board of Directors wants to move away from using the term quot Grandfathered quot which is distinguished by the acronym quot GF quot in the database column that shows conformity labeled IAW We use this database to generate annual architectural reports for our residents Our board wants the entry quot GF quot replaced with a quot Y quot they want the GF entry removed from the report completely amp they re serious about it Now I have already created a Query that has located all the GF entries in their various columns of various records which our Board wants me to use in an internal quot in-office quot database in order to keep track of what attributes actually were grandfathered originally as a reference for our field inspector when he inspects the townhomes But we also want to create an unassuming symbol on the report perhaps an or a something that will alert the inspector to an attribute that once was grandfathered on his field report This is to be done so that he will not be flying blind when he comes across a non-conforming attribute i e he will see the symbol amp know that that symbol means there used to be a quot GF quot in it s place BUT we want to move that symbol to a different column a column labeled quot Comments quot I could run the Find amp Replace function find all the GF s amp replace them with a Y but that symbol would go right back in the very same column that the GF came out of So is there a way to find all the GF s in one column amp replace them w a Y in that same column but have a symbol quot quot appear in another column of the same record I know it sounds complicated but can it be done Thanks mark man Access nbsp

For some reason W7 has decided to change 'Copy and Replace' with 'Move and Replace' when picking a file up with the left mouse and dragging it to another folder where an old version of the file exists.

My Excel SS is in two places: My desktop and USB which I use for backup. I would simply open the folder on the USB pick up the file on the desktop with the left mouse and drag it to the USB folder. Then I would get the message 'Copy and Replace'.. But not anymore it's become 'Move and Replace'.

I know I can 'Copy and Replace' by holding down the Ctrl key but I dont want to.

It looks like there should be a simple answer

Can anyone help? I swear I didnt change anything.

Hi and welcome to Techspot!!

Test the RAM sticks individually. One of them might be bad. You can use Memtest86 to try them out.

Also, try them in different memory slots. That sometimes helps.

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

A:Weird keyboard laptop issue. Keyboard randomly stops functioning until I standby.

Just going to keep bumping this until I get a reply, or bet banned. Every thread has some form of reply...maybe I smell or something?

Hi everyone,

I accidentally messed up my keyboard settings in Excel 2010--I didn't notice the book sitting on the keyboard while working on something else on my desk--and can't figure out how to restore all of them to defaults in a blanket action. I fixed them one-by-one, but I can't figure out how to fix one last problem: I keep having the keytips pop up when the '/' key (no ALT or CTRL) is pressed. It doesn't matter if the slash is in the QWERTY or the 10-key. The keytips still pop up.

Can someone help me figure out how to return the normal function?

I don't know how to connect my Casio Keyboard to my computer with a MIDI cable. I've mostly been using Mixcraft's music library, but I want to start something new with my new keyboard.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can connect my keyboard to my laptop via MIDI?

I've looked at other forum posts and contacted a few music artists..........they had nothing.

Hello, I am running LenovoX260 with Windows 7, I additional installed the lenovo updatecenter. All drivers are updated according to lenovo7 update center. Symptom: Basically, when the machine boots on battery all keyboard strokes are delayed for roughly 5 seconds or an easy touch of touchpad or trackpoint -- whatever comes first. The machine has not a high load at this time and no keystroke is lost. It is just delayed strongly. To make it more complicate, this symptom disappears until next reboot when I lock the screen with win+l and reunlock the screen with my password. It also disappears when I plugin the powerplug, but it also reappears when I unplug it again on the login screen. Once I relogged/unlocked this effect does not reappear. Booting with power plugged in is fine. Any ideas?

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

is there any settings in bios or any utility can fix the problem, could some one please advise?

A:Keyboard stops working - USB external keyboard is fine

Hello Nysoh

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is but if the internal keyboard is not working properly first step is keyboard replacement. If the problem still persists then troublemaker can be keyboard port or keyboard controller.

As far as I know BIOS has nothing to do with this issue.

Hi, I do a lot of typing at night time and the click of my keyoard's keys can be quite noticeable when there is pure silence. I have a Logitech K520 which isn't so loud but I would really love a keyboard that has the same type of keys as my Samsung laptop which are practically silent. Most laptops I've tried have similar keyboards in that the key doesn't travel far at all and there is no 'clicky' sounds either.

I have no idea what I would search for as I don't know what the style of keyboard is called. There are various names on the market, 'soft touch', 'quiet touch', 'low profile' etc etc but nothing that specifically identifies a laptop style.

I would just like a wireless laptop keyboard basically, even if it's the same size as a laptop keyboard but preferrably full sized.

Thanks very much for any advice

Is this a special keyboard? does your motherboard have ps2 connection for a keyboard/mouse? If so, try connecting a ps2 keyboard as a temporary solution until you can iron out the driver issues. Or maybe just a plain vanilla USB keyboard will do the trick. I don't think your PSU has anything to do with it. Hope this helps.

The fact that a USB keyboard works fine when your built in one doesn't, proves that it is the keyboard itself (or connectors) that is damaged/defective, otherwise, if it were a software problem, the external keyboard would do the same.

If under warranty, return this to the store ASAP for replacement/repair. There's not much we can recommend you do, hardware-wise, that you can do and not void the warranty.
I suspect the keyboard may be sticking,,, you can try another USB KB for troubleshooting though. Plug in the USB KB and see if that behavior is duplicated using that KB.

Are the sounds like a hissing or scratching or more like a purrring........Sorry, I couldn't resist. -- Have you tried connecting a different keyboard? This way you would know if the keyboard is broken or if the cat set off a combination of keys that codes something into the PC.

After plugging in my external keyboard both my external and laptop keyboard no longer function The keyboards cannot type or execute shortcut commands When clicking download links it results in downloading download htm pressing F results in opening the browser menu in chrome and clicking website links results in downloading url htm This problem persists after unplugging the keyboard but only seems external plugging longer Keyboard after in functions keyboard no to begin after the external keyboard has been plugged in After a restart computer use without plugging in the external keyboard results in no issues though I haven't done so for extended periods of time The external keyboard functions normally when plugged into another computer though it Keyboard no longer functions after plugging in external keyboard was a Mac so I'm not sure if the different operating system could have an effect here I've run a Malwarebytes scan already and it didn't pick up anything I think it's likely a virus but I can generally just use Malwarebytes to solve the vast majority of my problems so I don't know where to go from here At the moment I'm running a Spybot search and destroy scan to see if that picks up anything Malwarebytes could have missed Any help would be appreciated thank you Edit Spybot managed to pick up and delete a virus called win downloader gen I also ran TDSSkiller and picked up no root kits The problems still seems to occur Edit I have used the computer without plugging in the external keyboard for several hours without issue

Download and scan with Adwcleaner.
Copy and paste the log in this thread or read the instructions carefully on how to use ADWCleaner on the linked Webpage.
Which Brand is your external keyboard?
I am thinking there might be a driver conflict and you may be able to fix it by downloading the latest drivers from the keyboard manufacturer's Website.

A:keyboard locked out - unlock keyboard error

I'd first try clearing the CMOS using the clear jumper. If that doesn't work, remove the MB from the case and try firing it up on the bench, you may be shorting something with the installation into the new case.

We plugged in an external usb keyboard into an Asus n5200 sub-notebook computer and now the notebook keyboard is scrambling the letters and displaying numbers when some of the letter keys are pressed. Only the right side of the keyboard is putting in numbers instead of letters.

We suspect that the USB keyboard driver has overwritten the notebook driver, as there was an automatic detection process that occurred when the usb keyboard was first plugged in. The original driver seems to be missing. Machine running windows 2000. We are going to try and get it from the internet.
Anyone seen this problem before?

Thanks Russ

A:Notebook keyboard scrambled after plugging in usb keyboard

ASUS Techical line came turns out that the notebook keyboard has a num lock function that got turned on for some unknown reason when the usb keyboard was plugged in. Solution: press FN key and Numlock key and keyboard goes back to normal. The keyboard uses the right side letters at a number pad when num lock is engaged.

I am looking at buying the 15-bn070wm laptop that walmart carries with the realtree design. The laptop does not come with a backlit keyboard and I was curious if there is a way that I could purchase a ugraded backlit keyboard and install it I know some models have the backlight connector under the keyboard but they just do not come with them installed? If so what model keyboard should I purchase and would the laptop follow the HP pavilion 15 series disassembly steps?

A:X0S19UA-Change keyboard to backlit keyboard

Hi, It is much better and cheaper to buy this option now because backlit keyboard alone won't work, you need a motherboard which have ports for you to connect those lights. Buy this option now may cost you say $50, replace it later may cost you ten times or more and in many cases not-workable. Regards.

So what's happening is occasionally, while I'm typing, it repeats letters, as if the keyboard temporarily locks up. (Sometimes, but it's rare because I usually type continuously, it just stops me from pressing keys for a bit.) It's like "Hello my naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..."
And what's weird is it only happens after I pressed any of the lock keys before (disabling doesn't fix it.)
I'm using a keyboard connected directly to my PC, with up to date drivers.

Everything was working fine. Suddenly, when I typed on the usb keyboard, nothing happened. So I put it in a different usb port on the laptop, and it still didn't work. So I tried the laptop's own keyboard and still nothing. I'm not sure what is going on.
I tried deleting the keyboard driver from Device Manager but that did nothing. I tried searching for this problem but all the results seem to not apply to this specifically.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also... I'm a n00b that knows very little about computers so bear with me

A:Laptop won't recognize keyboard OR external usb keyboard

When you deleted the keyboard driver for the laptop...did you reboot after doing so?
Does your BIOS call for USB  boot via USB device?
