I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

AMD talking about the RX480 (link below). I figured they wouldn't be matching 1080 performance and would be focusing on their pricing versus the competition. $199 U.S. for a RX480. You gotta love the comment they got from Marty Stratton (ID software - Doom developer):

"You are not going to need a $700 video card to enjoy Doom at fantastic frame rates". Then back to AMD for benchmarks of two 480's (<$500) compared to a $700 1080.

I'm no fan boy of either company. I've had both, no issues. Critical for pricing is competition so I hope both Nvidia and AMD do well. Just nice to see more than a number of us consumers take a shot at that $700 U.S. "Founders Edition REFERENCE" card pricing.

Dear All hi!
I've got an old Greek text keyed in Magenta Garamont Greek and I wish to transform it into Times New Roman (the usual font used everywhere). When I select the text and apply the Times New Roman font the Greek text is transformed into various gibberish characters.

Could anybody help and inform me if there is a way that I could transform the Magenta Garamont text into Times New Roman without getting that gibberish?

I am attaching the font and a .doc sample of the Magenta and gibberish texts in a zipped file.

Thanks in advance and many seasons greetings.

Cheers.

I normally use the program Format Factory to convert movies or videos and rmvb wmv to avi but often they are not supported by DVS. The problem is with the program or are the videos that give same error?

A:Error transforming videos

Most likely the videos are not in a format or using a codec not supported by the software that you are using. It could be a file issue, but if the files are playable, it's not likely.

hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.

So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?

Thx in adance.

If the power supply will physically fit your case, it should work fine with your computer. Will the extra 10mm interfere internally with anything inside the PC?

Boot into BIOS setup by tapping Delete, see if Quick Boot or something similar has been enabled.

Otherwise you can set BIOS to defaults after taking note of SATA controller setting and BIOS BOot order priority (you can change it to what you want, HD first is probably best).

I don't quite understand what WMC (Window Media Center) is. Most say that it is a version of XP or something. I want to have WMC so that I can plya the videos and TV from my comptuer and play it on my Xbox 360. Is it possible for me just to wipe my hard drive, get the software for the WMC, and hope it works? I need to know where to get just the software/hardware if this is the thing. Is there any other possiblity to put videos on Xbox 360? They were really lame and didn't let videos play through your Windows Media Connect, or even let it work from a CD-RW that you have downloaded the disks onto!

Derek

A:Transforming XP to Windows Media Center

WMC is win xp with what appears to be a seperate media center built in. Because the system files are different it is considered to be a new operating system, so you can't use an xp disk to work on an WMC machine and vice versa.

I have it on my machine but don't use it often for no particular reason other than I've never gotten around to setting everything up. Using XPmc is exactly like xp. You'd never know the media center is there until you click a button and it opens up. Then you have all the software support to do just about anything you would want without going to 3rd party vendors. It supports multiple tv tuner cards, hdtv, picture in picture. You can burn dvd's, make and edit movies, digital photography, just about everything you could think of.

It includes the remote control and can be used rite out of the box for the software functions and then add tv tuners and such whenever you choose. The system requirements are the same as xp so you can wipe your disk and it will work.

I know nothing about xbox, other than having seen numerous posts in which people are including their xbox in their networks, wired and wireless.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe it was MS's intention not to release a retail version of WMC, however OEM versions are available and OEM's are the same as retails for all intents and purposes. Hope this helps.

i did erasing the $RECYCLE.BIN and it gets transformed to a number then I erased that, again and the number is trnsformed on to another number, I didit several times and it is transformed again, until I eliminate that with the unlocker utility, then it is send to a Recycler (but I did configurate the  Recycle to "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin,,,bla bla"), Also I did the elimination of "System Volume Information" with utilities to unlock that fille, taking the propertiy of it, ann unlock the data hanging un it then I could erase it, So i erase again the $RECYCLE.BIN an I can erase it. I'm currently working on creating shapes which are layered over the top of a shot of vehicles moving along a road. What I want to be able to do is have a path shape which moves across and appears to be attached to the windscreen of a few vehicles, but of course this requires it to change shape because of the nature of the shot, where the vehicles go out of shot.

I have managed to move the path shape across the screen using position keyframes but I cannot work out a way for it to save it's current state in one instance and then follow the windscreen, animating into the final shape as it goes.

I am sorry if this doesn't appear totally clear - I have only started working with After Effects and this is obviously my first project (albeit maybe an ambitious one!).

Try this, the data is so unstructered that it might not work for all formats, but does for the ones that you supplied.
At most you may lose a Table Heading or 2.
You may have to adjust the for/next loop count to accomodate all of your data as you have not indicated how much there is.

Does anyone know of any practical joke programs for the computer that go over the internet and work on XP? The Idea is my friend and I want to play a joke on his sisters. Someway to where you can do some stuff ya know like eject CD drive, make a program come up, etc. The plan was to use www.cronosoft.com's Total Control program one night when he came over but it doesnt work on XP.... A:Practical Jokes

Total control, as the web sites says has limits on how much it can do, so it can only be used for a prank. Most programs for this that are legit, require the person to log on to the program and consent for you to have access. The ones that don't are viruses. This is not a good idea because someone else might find these back-door programs on the system through a port scan, his sisters are in trouble. hey all, it's been awhile since I've logged on, over a year infact.

anyways, onto my question, I'm considering building a daul CPU machine, but I want to know if there is any practical application for one. I've heard that they are good for video/photo editing, but that's about all I've heard.

Please enlighten me.

A:practical application

Well, with a dual cpu you can configure your machine to let one cpu handle your application and one to handle the background services. That is why macs tend to be better then pc's for working with photoshop etc cos at least with the G5 there's a dual cpu setup (I dunno about the G4).

Btw - you might wanna look into the Asus P4c800E-Deluxe mobo. It virtually uses a dual cpu setup with only one cpu and works a treat for me. Of course with my setup my system is sometimes as slow as a 1.5ghz machine, but thats only when Im running a lot of services

A:Is PC heart replacement practical?

You can definitely upgrade the motherboard, CPU and RAM and still use other, older components. Unless your video card has a PCI bus interface (which I doubt), you should be fine.

Keep in mind though that if you change the motherboard you will need to reactivate Windows. This is fine if you have a retail copy, but if you have an OEM version you may not be able to reactivate it. At least without a phone call to Microsoft. Even then, they may not allow you to reactivate Windows 7. Hopefully, you have a retail copy of Windows 7.

And if you change motherboards, and reinstall of Win 7 is the suggested thing to do. Sometimes you can get away with just updating the drivers and are good to go, but little gremlins can sneak in. I've always found it best to reinstall. If you reinstall, definitely upgrade to 64 bits.

I have so many problems with Win 10 that I want to change back to Win 7. Is it practical to do a clean install of Win 7 after previously migrating all my programs to Win 10? Will I just have to go back to Win 10 in the future?

A:Is It Practical To Switch Back To Win 7?

Hi, Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Your PC isn't compatible with Win 10 according to this list
Windows 10 - Which model supports upgrade to Windows 10?

- I couldn't quickly find one for the USA so you could check that as it could be a US only model.

If you had been using disk imaging, you could simply have restored images created before you upgraded in a couple of hours- maybe less.

Yes, you can clean install Win 7: I would suggest you use disk imaging to image what you have now so that you have a full backup which allows you to retrieve almost anything you forgot to back up any other way.

Nothing will force you to upgrade to Win 10, and you can reinstall that or restore your disk images any time you like.

Creating disk images lets you restore Windows and all your disks and partitions to a previous working state, quickly and probably without technical help.

You can recover from:
- a failed disk drive (restore to a new one)
- ransomware (which encrypts your disk)
- user error
- unrecoverable problems from failed updates to problem programs
- unbootable PC (hardware faults aside)

Images also act as a full backup- you can extract files too.

You can even use images to help you move more easily and quickly to a new PC.

Imaging can even help you sleep at night knowing you have a second chance.

Many here recommend Macrium Reflect (free) as a good robust solution and more reliable than some others. It?s
- more feature rich
- more flexible
- more reliable
than Windows Backup and Restore system images.

It's well supported with videos, help and a responsive forum.

I use Macrium Reflect to image my hard disk, out of interest I ask if Windows backup is useful or practical?

A:Have you used windows backup before? Is it practical?

I used it and it was fine. Saved me a few times when I first got the new Win7. But I had bought Acronis for other reasons and it took over Win7 and even when I uninstalled Acronis Win7's backup was trashed for good. This is a known issue with Acronis and Win7.
So I'm looking into another backup. Right now I clone the drive to a media bay drive in my Dell Latitude.

Hi
I'm a computer nerd with moderate experience in computers(In no way related to IT), I have built, troubleshoot, Quality Control, many computers. However, when it comes to stuff that people are using in business, Virtual machines, Massive server Racks, Infrastructure. I would have very minimal understanding of such things.

(the Computer is a Core 2 Duo with 8GB ram, with 5 WD REDs)

What I want to know is on a topic regarding RAID cards. People use them because of redundancies so all data is safe from hard drive failure. My question is that, How long is the lifespan of a RAID card, and What kind of RAID card replacement (be specific)would one need to look for if their current one fails, (to allow your current array to still be used). Also, is it practical to use it for home file servers when running RAID 5 or should I just use software RAID?

Thanks in advance
: D

A:Solved: RAID Card Practical?

You can check the manufacturer's website for their estimated MTBF but you can have a card fail straight out of the box, to a few hours, to months, years, or even decades. I have some HP RAID cards going over 10 years and I have a failed Dell Perc4 that was closing in on 10 years. I also have several Adaptec controllers that didn't make it past 3 to 5 years. You generally have to stay with the same manufacturer to migrate RAID arrays and many will have a list posted on which cards can be used for migration as well. But migration shouldn't also be a given nor should RAID ever be considered a full safe guard for data or as a substitute for a true and proper backup. You can also have complete data corruption if the controller fails or in some bad cases lose all your data even if a single drive fails. And don't forget that anything beyond RAID-1 makes data recovery harder as you need multiple drives to rebuild the data.

RAID generally doesn't make sense for a home user; RAID is best suited for an environment that requires little to no downtime. RAID-1 isn't too bad as cost isn't that bad and recoverability and migration is easier but you still need a proper backup and for most people a backup is the better and safer solution anyway.

Home RAID solutions, either those built into the motherboard or those cheap RAID capable cards are nowhere on the same level of performance or reliability as expensive RAID controllers. Even if you place an expensive RAID controller into a home system that doesn't guarantee no downtime if you use standard home/off-the-shelf hardware. What makes RAID make sense in a business class server is that the whole server is built to higher standards and offers much higher reliability.

I have a few old analog camcorders, a couple of good-quality web cameras and several computers around the house located near windows. So, how practical is it to set up these as surveillance devices and record data to the hard disks of these computers?

If practical, where would one find decent software to handle the incoming data?

A:Can someone explain the practical aspects of 510 ElmCrest?

i would not upgrade from the X25-M 160GB to the new 510...unless you are doing it to get more capacity. The improvement on read/write speeds are really not that important for running an OS...nowhere near as important as the random access time benefits that you get from the SSD. I think you would be disappointed in anything outside of a benchmark with that upgrade. Now, if you were using the SSD's for storage, that extra speed would be wonderful, but I'm not aware of anybody using SSD's yet for storage due to high cost.

A:Did my cpu fry at 75 C? Some practical advice/tips wanted.

The chances are that once you get the new fan, everything will be fine.

You will only need to replace the fan, and not the entire heatsink.

I doubt that your cpu is damaged.

In the meantime, don`t use the computer.

How difficult, costly and practical would it be to remove my Vista operating system and install Windows XP? Would I loose all programs and files, and have to re-install and transfer?

Vista is driving me nuts questioning every new action I want to make.

Thanks,

A:Change from Vista to XP - practical or impractical?

To downgrade to XP, you would need to delete all the partitions on the hard drive and perform a clean install of XP . . you would loose all programs and files, and would have to reinstall all the applications.

Prior to doing anything else, you would need to be double dog sure that you can find XP drivers for the system

A:Transforming 5.1 Home Theater Speakers to 5.1 Computer speakers

If the amplifier has RCA input jacks for channels, you could just use three regular 3.5mm stereo jack - 2 x RCA cables, just connect them correctly.

Another alternative, if the option is available, is to use S/PDIF, but then you wouldn't get multichannel sound from games (lack of Dolby Digital encoding).

I am trying to setup a default user or machine setup for how win7 handles folder view options. I want show hidden folders to be set to on for all users and the hide extensions for know file types to be unchecked or turned off ffor all users (so extensions show)
I have located them in the registry but they do not seem to be applied to all users.
Below is the registry settings I have set

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"Hidden"=dword:00000001
"HideFileExt"=dword:00000000

When I create a new account to test the folder options are still hiding hidden files and not showing extensions.

Any suggestions

thx

A:show hidden folders show file extensions thru registry

You're close but in the wrong area.

Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"HideFileExt"=dword:00000000
"Hidden"=dword:00000001
show and hide files is a profile specific key and therefore can be modified by user accounts. if you would like to change the default, navigate to key:
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\explorer\advanced\folder\hidden and \hidefileext
there are keys in there that set default behaviors.

Does anyone know why this is...I'm not bothered about the discs they are cheap enough to throw away and replace, I'll carry on copying and pasting or using CD Creator in the future it's just bugging me as to why this happens...

Try using Sysinternals Autoruns.
It lists a lot more than msconfig.

You can download the Sysinternals Suite, or just the Autoruns utility.

Greetings,

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

A:Asus x52 F3SV notebook not booting past Asus screen

Try running Bios defaults

This settings area can be called:
Bios Setup
CMOS Settings
System Setup
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
Its sometimes:
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
DEL key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)

If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers

If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust

It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows

A:Unable to restore Asus X550CA using Asus recovery DVDs

Is the ASUS recovery media Windows 8.0 or 8.1? It may be because the recovery disks are 8.0 and it's a conflict because your now running 8.1. The 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade does break the factory recover feature on some laptops. ASUS for sure I think. I have a K75DE, that shipped with Windows 8.0. I clean installed with Windows 8.1 from here, Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help. It reads and uses my 8.0 OEM embedded code and activates online automatically. no muss no fuss. That tool will create a bootable USB thumb drive that will work with UEFI for you. If you need any more info just ask and i'll see if I can help. I don't know why your getting the "Start rebuild Windows system process" message and the lock up? It may be because the partition structure has changed on the Drive. I created a Recovery drive, then swapped in an SSD and it would not work on the SSD. It kept saying required partition missing. That's why I bailed and did a clean install. I was leaning in that direction anyway.

EDIT: If I don't get back to you tonight don't panic. I have company coming and may not get back online until tomorrow morning. Have to go now.

A:ASUS A8NSLI-32 Deluxe + ASUS En7600GS Silent Trouble

Followup: I was able to fix it and thought I'd post this info since it might help others who might have the same problem. After reading through dozens of pages here and in the ASUS forums, I discovered that one of my default BIOS setting mysteriously ended up in a non-default state. For some reason, the RAID option for Silicon Image was set to RAID. That's fine for those how actually want to setup RAID but I didn't plan to use RAID at the time. After making the change to the BIOS, I had to install Windows XP again to get everything registered correctly. Once Windows was up and running, I avoided the motherboard chipset install CD all together by using only the newest versions of all the motherboard drivers directly from the ASUS website. Problem solved!

A:Asus Xonar Phoebus and Asus Rampage 5 Extreme issue

The question(s) I have is ->
Am I missing anything when attempting to install the sound card? I have tried with no GPU drivers (including the Nvidia sound for the GTX 750 ti sc) / disabled onboard HD sound and still the sound card not detected.
Even in this motherboard, it should detect the sound card regardless of what sound source is set as default and then allow me to install it and set it as default (without messing about with the BIOS)?
Maybe my sound card has died when moving it from the last computer - Static death.....................
Thanks

The other day, I tried to do a factory reset on my laptop, but it failed, and I could only click cancel. Now, when I booted up my computer, it goes to the ASUS logo, then a black screen, still backlit, with an underscore flashing in the upper left corner of the screen. I can access the BIOS, and have been trying to do boot overrides. Please help, I don't have the ASUS Recovery partition installed on the laptop, and I don't have any possible ways to install an ISO. Hi.
Not sure I understand how you could perform a factory reset if you don't have the recovery partition available. You should have gotten an error that the ASUS Recovery Partition could not be found.

You would need to get to a working computer and download either the Media Creation Tool for W10, or the current ISO from MSTechBench. You can use RUFUS to create a bootable flash drive, and then install W10 that way.

You might also want to check the health of your hard drive, to make sure it's not failing.

Hope that helps!

Summary I am putting this in the UX51VZ-IS71T: on Asus Asus Question Support? general forum section and please bear with me I had posted earlier a thread about my Asus Ultrabook backlit keyboard Asus UX51VZ-IS71T: Question on Asus Support? not illuminated Thank you all that have responded to that post but nothing worked I ended up sending in my Asus for RMA and warranty repairs Here is where the fun starts I first made my case with Asus and they informed me that my Serial Number was invalid I told them that it is wrong as I bought the Laptop from MemoryLabs com which is a Certified Asus Re-seller It even posts their name on Asus UX51VZ-IS71T: Question on Asus Support? their website in quot Where to Buy Asus quot Please do not take this as racist or anything derogative but the Asus support staff are all located in India and there is no way to talk to a person in America The repair facility is also contracted out to a company called BizCom in Milpitas California Now the men and women who work at the support center in India do their best but to my understanding they are a separate company working to just take calls Same with the BizCom company which they are great but again contracted so there is nobody who works for Asus or knows Asus's RMA system My laptop has been sitting at the repair center with no updates from Asus When I contact the support center directly they said the Serial Number was Invalid and that they had to talk to Asus about the warranty service I though Asus already fixed this when I sent them my Invoice of the Laptop and that it was a certified Reseller My Question Has anyone ever had this experience with Asus before Is there a number to talk to someone in America What would you do in this situation as this is my first RMA service and unaware of what is normal

A:Asus UX51VZ-IS71T: Question on Asus Support?

I had correspondence with ASUS via e-mail. It was a while ago now, I think it was a link on their web site. It was a waist of time really. I wasn't impressed. Replies took forever and the answers seemed to be scripted responses. I eventually just gave up asking any more questions. My issue was with creating recovery media. At that time there was no way of creating a recovery disk set in Windows 8.0. The utility I was referred to only worked in Windows 7. It became a non issue when I put an SSD in my laptop and did a clean install of 8.0.

Most of those contracted out call centers go by a flow chart. Ask this question, if the answer is yes, take this branch, if its no, take this other branch. The person asking you the questions may have no technical background at all. As soon as you say I don't know, your basically screwed. Assuming you can actually understand what they are saying. I'm not racist, but I don't think its unreasonable to be able to talk to somebody that is fluent in my native language. It seems to be the luck of the draw sometimes. I've had some that I could understand easily, and some that were almost impossible to understand.

A:NEW!! Asus P6X58-E WS MB. No Win8 Drivers on Asus website?

From what I found on the Asus site....
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P6X58-E WS
They are only providing drivers up to Windows 7 64 Bit. You can go to the file manager and click one time on the primary HDD and then click computer tab and from there click on manage. From there you click device manager and you will get a list of your hardware. You can right click on each one and click update driver and the system will try to find the updated driver for you. If anything you now have your hardware name and can try to get the updated driver through the actual company who builds the drivers.

It also does sound like you may need to format the HDD's. Do the same thing but instead of clicking on device manager you will click on disk management and you can right click on each drive and select to format. Just make sure to not format the primary partition if that is even possible.

I do see that you have had a similar problem already on this forum but it didn't fix mine (I probably wasn't doing something right).
My Laptop wont start up it goes to the Windows Recovery error page where you have to choose either Launch Startup Repair (recommended) or Start Windows normally. Both of these options lead you to the same result to the Asus Preload Wizard page.
I tried pressing F8 and F9 but didn't get anything.
Appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you

Cheers

Hi!

Running server 2008 with exchange server. The user is using both OWA webmail and local Outlook.
User got multiple inbox's to access, 1 personal and 2 for the company. The personal one got subfolders which shows in OWA, but the problem is the other folders. They are only needed by this 1 user and they appear as normal in Outlook but in webmail/OWA it only shows as a single inbox.
Why?
Ive tried to set full privileges and rights to create/edit etc for the current user but when right-clicking the folder in OWA the user cant even create subfolders because its grayed out.
How can i fix this?
When i search the internet the problem seems to be the other way around, like they wont show in Outlook so that really doesnt help me.

NOTE: I have severe eye problems. If I do not respond to your postings, please PM another staff member for assistance.

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (located at this link: Hardware Diagnostics ). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
Hard Drive Diagnostics (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link)
There are also free, bootable antivirus disks at this link: Free Online AntiMalware Resources - Bootable Disks

No memory dumps from later than Oct 2011
Service Pack 1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Quote:
Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates

No memory dumps in the WER section of MSINFO32 after Oct 2011

Helllo everyone,

I wanted to buy the Radeon HD 6870 but it's not on the market here anymore, so I will have to buy another one -- hopefully not the HD 7850 xD. So, which one should I pick: the ASUS EAH6850, or the ASUS ENGTX560. Give your reasons please. I need the answer before Wednesday (2nd of May)

I read stuff about both of these, I'm really "new" to NVIDIA but I am also confused now. Asked people, some say Radeon, some say GeForce... I really don't know. Help me out, I'll appreciate it.

Ask away for more info if you need to.

A:ASUS HD 6850 or ASUS GTX 560 (non-Ti, DirectCU, 810MHz)?

I have always been an ATI/AMD fan when it comes to video cards so I'm gonna say go with the 6850. I have one and it is great. It is typically cheaper than the Nvidia and is slightly higher on Passmark's benchmarks. Also, I totally agree with Asus as a brand as they are one of the bests.

Same as topic. Wondering if the Hero was worth the extra 50 bucks or so in terms of reliability, features, etc. Reliability is a big factor for me so if you think Hero is a bit more stable for the extra 50$ then please let me know. Thank you!

P.s. In case you were wondering I am building a gaming/video editing pc for around 1500 bucks

A:Asus Maximus VI Hero or Asus Z87-A LGA 1150

The Maximus VI Hero is no more stable than the Z87-A. The Maximus is more gamer oriented due to its overclocking features (which the Z87-A has, but not to that extent). If you can get a Z87 Sabertooth, that is probably the best in terms of reliability because it protects the components from dust.

A:New SSD for old tower?

Well there are three issues I see;
1 Your mb only has sata 2 ports and that will limit or throttle the speed of a modern ssd. It will still be a HUGE improvement over a mech hard disk however you will be somewhat limited.
2 Next issue is that xp [your os] does not support TRIM or wear leveling for the ssd. This causes a degrading of performance over time. Sometimes the drive mfg has a utility that will do basically the same thing. Another option is to make an image of the ssd and store the image on a second hd, external, etc. Once the image is made, boot with parted magic linux and secure erase the ssd. Once the ssd is secure erased, restore the image. This will also restore the ssd drive's speed.
3 XP does not apply the correct partition offset for a ssd. This can be edited manually using linux OR you can create the partitions with a win7/win8 boot disk then install xp.

Other than the above issues, you can install a ssd drive and you will see a significant improvement in performance however not as much as with a modern mb supporting sata3.

Alright, I have this game named Sim Tower, which is a tad bit slow (but shouldnt be). I can manage to install it fine, and even play it off the CD quite well if I wanted to. Although when I start the game, it automatically goes into fast mode (which means time is fast forwarded until there is activity with the people in the game). It hasnt got too much to do with fast mode, but this is when it effects the game speed a lot (mainly the cursor though). I take fast mode off, and then the cursor drags all over the screen, making it nearly impossible to play. At most last time I got to put in some office floors, but Alt F4 Seemed like the best option after that. I have tried running it in compatability mode, and even with this kinda of patch. Any suggestions on how to stop my cursor from slowing down?

A:Tower beeping?

If it beeped, then it is almost certainly a hardware thing. This could be due to loose memory (this happened to me before), a loose PCI/AGP card, or a more serious hardware (motherboard) failure. I'd make sure your connections are nice and tight. Also watch if the fans are working.

Hi Guys! You helped me out once in the past --- was wondering if I might be needing some assistance again?

Yesterday my tower started to "wheeze" or HUM extra loudly..........right now it sounds normal again but every once in a while it will start 'acting up'. I lightly tapped the side of our tower (thinking some dust got inside???) and the humming stopped for awhile......does this mean it's almost time to replace the fan? I guess the problem won't just go way right :-/ ??? If I do need to get a new fan are they expensive? Can I open my tower and install the new fan myself???
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer!

PS I searched before posting but couldn't find any past inquiries with the exact same problem as I am experiencing......

Design ,It would be helpful to fill in your profile on your Hardware .In this case the Motherboard ,brand and model #.
You will get a lot more help that way.
Beep codes differ and are specific to the company that wrote the bios. Also they will have a different pattern for each type of error.this is a repeating pattern of long and/or short beeps.
However these occur at initial boot time .
Since your computer has re-booted up to Windows almost ,you should look in your event viewer for errors.
Try to boot windows into Safe mode.

Hi for the past few days I have been hearing sounds coming from my tower. I just had it cleaned about 2 months ago, so I don't think it is could be dust built up on the fan. It sounds like it is trying to load a disk, but there isn't on in the slot where you put one. Any help would be great.

Thank you,
dlkseedig

A:Tower sounds

Describe the sound better. Is it a clicking? A beep? A drives clicking sounds bad.

During a recent thunderstorm, I shut down my computer for protection. disconnected power. After the storm I reconnected the power and turned on the system and nothing. I have an e-machine model T2984 with XP Windows Home. I have looked inside the tower and can see a small green light burning. Am I missing a reset button or have I lost the power supply unit? The machine has worked great until this problem. The machine is approx. 3 to 4 years old. Anyone have any ideas?

Today I turned on my computer, just like everyday. But after awhile, it started to beep. A series of 4 different pitched beeps with a pause after all 4 have sounded. It keeps coming back and never stops. Whats going on?

if it's while you're in Windows, that means the internal temperature settings are to high and it's telling you to shut down before you fry your processor or more. If it's during the RAM count, then it's a different problem which i'll go more in-depth into later if you tell us whether it's secnario 1 or 2

I was fixing someone's computer. (Win XP). All of a sudden this computer crashed. While I wasn't there. This person called Gateway (the maker of their computer). They said it was most likely a short in the tower. Does anyone know of symptoms the computer would be experiencing if this was a short in the tower. (Before the actual crash, her computer was giving the same error message and it had been happening for over a year now). Thanks.

Hello!

I'm wondering whether it's okay to run my Dell Dimension 4600 tower on its side for a few hours. Is that going to cause HDD problems? If I try it on its side will I cause any damage if it won't run, or will it just refuse to go?? There's also a gfx card in it.

I'm hoping that it can run on its side so I can mount my LCD monitor on top of it and have a nice, compact little tower/monitor combo that I can use as a synth via MIDI for a performance.

Thanks for your input,
~Charlie

Hi
I  would like to purchase a secondhand tower Desktop PC, which seems a bargain,

but the seller has confused me as i have asked if it is a genuine installed Windows 7 Professional edition which

is all i would like to purchase, A genuine  Windows 7 professional installed on a Desktop,

the seller has explained in email   "I only have a copy of the disk but  it's a real copy with a legal code"

Would this be genuine ?

I would be grateful for some advice please.
Ben

"I only have a copy of the disk but it's a real copy with a legal code" should set off red flags. The copy would be "real" (it certainly would not an unreal copy) but it is still copy. You don't know if he has given anyone else the same copy with the same license.

A:Making a new Tower

If you are not going to overclock, you shouldn't need Ballistix RAM, but Crucial is a good brand.

That's a good basic case.

Many here would try to steer you away from Seagate hard drives toward WD or Samsung, but you can obviously have good or bad luck with any of them.
