My computer refuses to produce sound, but my sound card is fine

Q: My computer refuses to produce sound, but my sound card is fine

My SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS card works perfectly well, but no sound will come out of my computer. I have up-to-date drivers and a new speaker system because I thought the old one might be faulty. If you start a song and turn the speaker to the max and listen real closely, you can barely distinguish the song, so I know it is there. Can anybody help me?

Preferred Solution: My computer refuses to produce sound, but my sound card is fine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey I need a bit of help I'm running a Dell inspiron laptop if this helps but I recently had what I believe was a virus on here my internet security McAfee and Windows Defender were both being turned off from time to time and I had to manually turn them back on Then my laptop started slowing down so much it took hours to complete of a scan with only that running I decided to do a system restore to about weeks ago hoping to fix the problem After hours of it saying the same thing whilst trying to complete the restore Windows is repairing the registry I decided it was time for some intervention as it seemed to be stuck in some never ending loop I got the recovery CD and then turned the No sound fine? sound, windows yet card says is my laptop off mid-restore which it didn't No sound, yet windows says the sound card is fine? like Upon turning it back on I only got a blue screen No sound, yet windows says the sound card is fine? and mouse but I got it to boot from the CD and did a boot recovery and Disk Check All is working fine apart from I am left now with no sound On a side note the boot start isn't the same as before and it says that the Autochk is missing No sound, yet windows says the sound card is fine? Skipping Autocheck I've checked the device manager which is telling me everything is working fine apart from in sounds it cannot play a test sound I've run a Dell Support Center check which told me everything was running fine apart from a PCI Family Bus Port - which failed to run the test but windows again was saying that this is working fine Apart from the fact that my laptop now has no sound the only other thing pointing towards a Sound card problem is Skype When turning it on and checking the call settings this is the only software on my laptop that can seeming not pick up the Sound card Personally that's a bit strange but hopefully it is of some use Please if anyone can help me with this then it would be greatly appreciated

A:No sound, yet windows says the sound card is fine?

Boot in safe mode with networking
Safe Mode

Download install and let the following program update and scan.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer
Next run a secure file check (this can be done while still in safe mode as well)
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Okay once that is done and we know the source of your problems is gone.

we need to see if you really got rid of the problem files first.

Once you've done that post back with the exact model of your inspiron

A:No sound from computer, speakers work fine... Avance AC'97 sound

physically check your cables, as usually this problem is caused by human error. next, check all of your volumes. what OS, service pack, and version are you running?

I'm using Windows 7. The computer speakers work, but when I insert known good headphones into the audio jack, the computer speakers mute (as they should), but no sound comes through the headphones. I checked all the sound indicators (e.g. control panel/sound, the sound icon on the tray and device manager) and everything indicates the volume is up and the device is working. I've encountered this problem perhaps a half a dozen times and a reboot always fixes the problem. My only guess is that some application or virus is running in the background which is interfering with the ability of the headphone jack to transmit sound. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem without rebooting the computer? And does anyone know what the culprit might be which is interfering with the sound being transmitted into the headphones? Thanks!

I also am unable to have windows recognize my mic. I can hear myself when I test it in the sound properties:

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Sound > Recording Tab > Microphone > Properties > Listen

I am able to hear myself, so my mic works fine.

However, when I try to use my mic in Skype or Steam Voice Chat, nothing comes through.

Each time I try to play a song or video in wmp, itunes, VLC media player, InterVideo, etc. I get absolutely no sound. Videos play, I can see the images perfectly fine, but there's silence.
However, if I want to watch a video on youtube or anywhere else online, the sound works. There's got to be a simple solution to this but I can't seem to find it. Any help? I've been putting up with this for a long time and I'd really like to finally get it sorted out.
Oh and before you ask, the media players are not muted.

Hi Guys,

wondering if someone can shed some light on the situation. I have recently bought an acer aspire 8930G laptop and its been fine until recently.

If im playing sound whether its on youtube or any other sound related website and open for example an mp3 via windows media player, the sound becomes muffled and slows down.

Then if I close all applications and reopen windows media to play the MP3, it says "theres no sound device installed"??

I have to then restart for it to work properly again.

I have antivirus installed etc and am very sensible in what i download..

Would this be a driver fault? or hardware?

Thanks Guys

Hello,

Yesterday I bought Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 and I have the CM6501 Sound Card (with the lastest driver version.)

The Subwoofer, Left and- Right-front speakers produce sound.
But I found out my Rear/Center Speakers doesnt produce any sound. But they can produce sound!

When I do the 'sound test' there isn't any sound coming from it expept the fronts speakers.

I installed everything correctly, I have put all cables in the right port.
(I got the wrong cable dilivred in my package I got two Sound-Card cables and no Audo IN cable but that shouldn't be the problem because I did heard sound from rear speakers but the doesnt anymore.)

What am I about to do?

A:Rear and center speakers doesn't produce sound

Did you switch 5.1 sound on?
On your speaker icon in the taskbar, right-click and choose 'playback devices'.
In the new dialogue that appears, right-click on your speaker icon, and choose 'Configure speakers', then select the option that is nearest to your set-up.
Click on the 'Test' button to check all speakers are working.

A:After rebooting my computer no sound everything looks fine in drivers

A corruption between windows and the sound card is one possibility. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound device and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers.

Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of problems and my take care of yours.

I don't really know what a sound card does.. but I have a Dell 2400 and generic speakers that comes with it.. its the one you plug in and has a volume knob to it.. looks loud.. I don't think it's the speakers.. I hear everything clearly when i first got it.. now the volume is so low... I can hear it ok if i put the speakers up to my ear..
Is it the sound card? Do all sound cards fit all computers? Or should i just buy a Soup Up Speaker system with an amp for my computer? Yes I made sure The volume is turned up and on the Windows Media player also... thanks!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First. Go into your bios, and disable your onboard sound, and save and exit bios.

Once your computer has booted up, go into contol panel, and double click the sounds and audio devices icon.

Click on the audio tab, and set the sound playback device to your new soundcard.

Do the same for the sound recording device. Click on the voice tab and do the same. Click apply/ok.

Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your new soundcard, and that your speakers are plugged into the new soundcard.

Hi I recently purchased the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX and am having problems getting it to actually play any audio or record any sound I've browsed playback/recording no Blaster Sound Creative Audigy Card, Sound FX other threads with similar issues on this board and as such have disabled my motherboards onboard audio in my BIOS settings have reinstalled the drivers from disc Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX Sound Card, no playback/recording and from the Creative website and even attempted to use Driverpack Online to download any missing drivers However my problem still persists I can see that the Sound Blaster Audigy FX is present on the sound option on the control panel but it never actually plays any sound Additionally whenever I try to play a test sound in the speakers advanced properties I am returned with the error quot Failed to play test tone quot I've included a few screenshots that might help make things a bit more clear and I'd be very appreciative of any help I can get with this issue Specifications Audio under Speccy The playback menu speaker properties and the error I am returned with when I attempt to test the speakers Recording menu

A:Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX Sound Card, no playback/recording

First thing, I assume you have correctly attached your speakers to the new SoundBlaster.

As you have a separate sound card, did you disable any on-board (on the motherboard) audio in the BIOS? If not, that is the first step. The on-board, is still enabled, can conflict with the SoundBlaster.

Also, temporarily disable the AMD HD audio in the Device Manager for testing (the AMD is for HDMI audio). Reboot after doing this.

Finally, although this has may not have any affect on playback, the default recording device should be the SoundBlaster "What You Hear". In the Recording sound panel, RIGHT click in an empty area and then check to show Disconnected and Disabled devices. If the SoundBlaster was installed correctly What You Hear should now show up and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

I recently purchased a 5 1/4" multimedia panel for my computer. Their are 4 ports on the front for hooking up mic and speakers (left, right, center) but the pins to hook to my motherboard or sound card are single pins. I have a ATI Diamond 7.1 channel sound card with 2 standard ports for hooking up other sources for sound. I have no manual for the card and unable to find anything online on how to hookup the individual pins to my sound card. Can anyone help??

A:Connecting sound pins from front panel to sound card

I can't find any detailed information. In any case, I don't know why you would want separate speaker outputs on the front panel. Most of the bay panels I've seen have standard features like mic in, headphone out, and misc other connections like USB, Firewire, etc.. I've not seen any with individual (ie: left speaker, right speaker, center speaker) connections, and it would clutter your front panel having all of the those cables hanging.

Hi,
I'm working on husband's pc, it is an HP Media Ctr. set up. Pavilion 4100e. We had to do a System Restore when pc was over run with virus/trojan infections. SR resulted in some lost Driver/Controller files, including ethernet and sound card. I have recovered all Driver/Controller files-- and everything is working except for sound.

I have uninstalled Creative Audigy Audio Processor (through Device Manager) and reinstalled (through Found New Hardware). I have run dxdiag, only to find "device cannot start" under problem devices/sound card.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work again? I cannot use System Restore to go back to when it was working, because that would take me back to all the virus/trojan infections and nothing was working.

Any help would be appreciated~

Thanks,

Tricia

Seeing that you have posted in the Hardware Sound Forum, where you will be more than likely able to get a solution to your problem, I am closing this thread.
The reason for this is, that multiple posting about the same issue tends to confuse the issue; especially when they are in two different forums.
Not many of the Windows Tech Team Members venture into the Sound Forum, and vis-a-vis with the Hardware Tech team.

Hello to you all!

I've been having problems with my sound card (in the title) and that problem is that I cannot hear any sound come out of it but the strange thing is the little green bar that indicates sound is coming through and how loud it is keeps going up and down as I play music.

Anyway the strange thing is the windows default sound thingy works perfectly fine, if any of oyu kind people could help me that would be fantastic!

It was that Windows XP search dog. When you ctrl + f to open the search side bar in a window there is an animated dog that seems innocuous. Every 15 minutes or so it will scratch itself and make that noise twice. As long as that search side bar is open, minimized or not, that noise will persist.

my lenovo laptop was running fine but all of a sudden the sound started twist bugging (sound sound card?) out laptop strange + freaking out and about every laptop sound bugging out + strange twist (sound card?) second or so the sound would cut out and cut back in ex im playing a video and the people are talking but it sounds like quot th--- is h--- fin---- compu---- quot or something like that the weird part is the speakers arent working but when i plug in my headphones sound starts working out of the speakers while the headphones are plugged in with no sound coming out of the headphones and thats pretty strange but it gets stranger pretty much anything plugged into the audio jack would make the speakers start working even if it is just an adapter for another thing and not even a headphone so i checked the sound in the control panel and i said that it quot could not detect sound card restart and it will try to find it quot or something so i restarted and the problem still happened but this time the control panel says that quot your device is working properly quot when its obviously not ive looked on the microsoft support page and followed the instructions no help lenovo support no help ive tried running a troubleshoot on the audio playback but it said that it could not detect the problem ive checked the device manager and under the video sound and game controllers it has listed quot Conexant SmartAudio HD quot and quot Intel R Display Audio quot and they both are listed as quot working properly quot nope im guessing one of these is the integrated audio processor because laptops dont normally have quot sound cards quot but the they do have the above not sure what to do ive consulted some of my more tech minded friends and they consistently say its probably an audio card error but dont know how to fix it sigh hopefully i can get some help here

The problem might just be the new board, it may not support the sound card, or maybe it really isn't plugged in all the way.

Happened to me with my Firewire card took me forever to put the dump thing in I keep pushin and pushin, but not to hard because you'll break the card and you don't want to do that.

so just keep pushin slowly it may look like it is in but it probably really isn't

I hope creative can help you with your problem.

Or ot may be the new processor/ board combination, why didn't you just get the Atholon 64 instead of the Septeron 64.

I don't think many cards are compatible with that

I've got an Asus Crosshair V Formula motherboard that I couldn't get any sound on my Onkyo HT-R receiver via the onboard optical output Win Ultimate bit OS I was planning on getting a nicer sound card anyway so I bought the Asus Xonar Essence ST Installed that sound card but alas I still have the same problem Speaker and headphone outputs work but no signal is recognized by the receiver via the S PDIF I know that the cable and receiver are fine I still have my previous computer which is running Win XP and it has been sending audio via the same cable to the same receiver for years It still works if I hook it up It has an Asus M N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and an HT Omega Striker audio card Both the onboard and sound card optical output work with the optical out to the receiver With my current computer the Win quot Sound quot window displays signal on the audio meter when I play audio or when sound Optical receiver No - and S/PDIF out from (onboard sound card) I use the quot Test quot function But no signal is recognized by the receiver I've tried every format and sample rate I've uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled I've used DH Driver Cleaner to sweep out all previous existing S/PDIF Optical out - No sound from receiver (onboard and sound card) audio drivers I've also had the onboard disabled since I originally installed the card I've tried everything I can think of and manipulated all the settings in the Xonar Essence ST Audio Center software that are relevant I think I've tried everything but I'm hoping I'm wrong I've submitted this to Asus technical but it's been days with no response so I figured I post it here I've Googled the heck out of this for the last week and haven't found anyone with the same problem or at least none of the solutions were effective for me This really should not be this difficult It was practically quot Plug amp Play quot with my previous computer I'm strongly suspecting a Windows issue but I have no way to verify that currently For what it's worth I'm using the only driver available that I'm aware of Xonar driver Anyone with any suggestions or ideas I'd greatly appreciate it

A:S/PDIF Optical out - No sound from receiver (onboard and sound card)

although the xonar panel will control almost all functions for that, make sure that windows has it's default audio device set to the spdif card you want. If it's set to speakers HD AUDIO (hd audio being one of the cards you want) will only output through analog. Control Panel>hardware and sound>sound. Select the card that you want and make sure u select one of the options that also says spdif. Click set default, apply and it should work. Sorry if you have already tried this. But it's the first thing that comes to mind right now.

I'm looking to buy the Creative Lab Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX sound card, but I'm not sure how compatible it is with my current system, which is an HP Pavilion 7960. It says you need an available adjacent slot to the PCI card for the Audigy extension, which I don't know what it means.

Also, I saw a picture of it online and I see that it comes with two cards and a black box. I figure that one card is supposed to be the actual sound card, and the other is this mysterious Audigy extension. But what is the black box?

A:distorted sound in vista/createiv x-fi titanium sound card

I had a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic in my rig and I constantly had distorted audio - manifesting in the form of 'crackly', echoing sounds. Really frustrating, I tried all kinds of solutions including a clean uninstall of the audio drivers, replugging the sound card in a different PCI slot, etc. For a while everything would be fine, and then back into crunchy-sound-land...

My rig used to have Windows XP Pro as the OS, and the sound card worked perfectly. It was only after I changed the OS to Vista that the woes began.

This is probably not the solution you want to hear, but after 2 years of despair I flogged the card on eBay and bought myself an Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1 card. Although that is still an X-Fi it works beautifully in Vista, absolutely no problem with the sound since.

Can you see the sound card in the Device Manager in System Properties?

Did this problem start recently or since the installation of XP? Did you get sound at anytime earlier(even on other OSes)?

I have put the sound card into my computer and made sure that I've hooked up everything correctly, but I have ran into a problem with it. When I ran the download "Product Identification Module Update" from the Creative website, it's telling me that I don't have the right OS, and tells me to update to Windows 7 or later versions. Well, my problem is that I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, which I know is plenty new, and I don't understand why it's not letting me download the update/driver for the sound card. Please do help if you are able to

Hi,

I am running Windows XP on a Intel Gigabyte 925 motherboard with onboard sound (CM9880) and 5.1 AOpen Surround sound speakers

The motherboard CD comes with drivers for both Microsofts UAA architecture as well CMedia.

The problem is that when I run the sound tests with the CMedia configuration utility all 5 of my surround sound speakers play at the correct times showing that they do work. The problem is this is the only place they work. The dont work when I play games or listen to music through various sound programs such as Windows Media Player. Here only 2 speakers work. Not all 5, some please help?

Is there and updated driver that I need to get for my onboard sound card fro Windows XP and if so from where

Thanks

Mark.

Hi,

We have been having a problem with a SOund card we recently installed... The sound is warped when we use it in conjuntion with Windows Media Encoder. I wonder if it could be the mother board or the sound card which is an Echo Mia Midi card.

Any input is appreciated.

The title says it all. I recently started playing Medal of Honor and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and on both games I get a frozen screen with looping audio which forces me to shut the computer down via the power button.

after doing some searching around on the net and trying various solutions, I have determined the next step is to disable on board sound. I know this sounds like a noobish question but, is there any way to get sound out of my computer? is there a BIOS setting that allows me to disable the on board sound but still get sound out my PC? these 2 games rely heavily on being able to hear what is going on,

I have an ABIT IP35 Pro with no secondary sound card.

thanks.

A:Can I get audio if I turn onboard sound off without a sound card?

No that'd be impossible. if you turn off the onboard sound, how are you gonna get some sound delivered to your speaker or headphone?

you should try disabling the onboard sound and check if it fixes the issue. if it did, also try to uninstall your current audio driver and install the newest one.

looping audio does not always means the onboard sound is faulty. it usually goes on loop because that portion of the soundtrack is already loaded into RAM. therefore it still plays even when the computer froze.

the problem might lies in other thing such as video card or overheating CPU since you indicate it only occurs when you're playing games.

First, let me say that I am a sound novice! I recently started a vinyl ripping project. My onboard sound does not support 24 bit depth recording at 96 kHz sampling rate, so I purchased an external USB card with phono preamp. It works just fine for my project. But as long as external sound card is plugged into a USB port, it takes control of all sound. I'd like to be able to toggle back to my onboard audio when I'm not ripping vinyl so I can listen through my system speakers. I have experimented with Windows audio controls, but have not found a way to do this. Is it possible?

Hello!

I got a new sound card today. Installed it, installed the drivers from the CD, plugged in the headphones and it works. But the sound levels are way to low. I raised the volume in all the places I could find, but it's still a bit low.

Here's the card: Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX Sound Card - Quality 5.1 surround audio

Here are my headphones: Philips - Stereo Headphones Deep bass - SHP2000/97 - Indoor - Headphones - Accessories

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

A:Low volume with new sound card(Creative Sound Blast 5.1 VX)

1. Since you are using a separate sound card and not the on the motherboard audio, disable that in the BIOS. If its enabled it can conflict and cause problems.

Are you plugging into the Speaker jack on the card or do you have it connected to the front panel in the case. If you are connecting to the front panel headphone jack, plug the headphone into the Speaker jack on the card and see if there is any difference.

Try the headphones in a different computer to check the volume level. If its low on another computer then the headphones are the problem.

Let's start by right clicking the speaker icon in your system tray and select playback devices from the options...right clik on the speakers and set as default. You can select to disable the independent headphone jacks if the speakers are plugged to the sound card. Then clik on properties and go to the levels tab at top. Set the slider to 100%. I have given up on getting a good 5.1 or 7.1 sound system for my pc since it requires a receiver and all.

What I am looking for right now is a 2.1 sound system that can be directly plugged in to my Asus Xonar D2X sound card. The system should have a really decent subwoofer with tight and deep bass. As for the speakers, they should be able to produce crisp sound at high volume.

My current sound system can no longer handle high pitch sound without the buzzing
I am no expert in this matter, but I've been looking around a lot with no luck.
No real budget limitation, if its worth it I will get it

Thanks in advance,

Occasionally when loading up my notebook I am not able to listen to sound from videos, menu sounds etc. This happens about 1/50 boot-ups. My old computer was much the same. This is bearable, but I have recently started using Ventrilo, the voice chat software, and randomly when using it I lose my sound (that is, all computer sounds). That it has this widespread effect is why I believe it to be the fault of the sound card, instead of the Vent software.

I have reinstalled and attempted to update the drivers to the sound card (see my spec list for the make).

Has anyone encountered this problem, and has it been a hardware or software problem? More importantly, how can I fix it?

Thanks

A:How can I get sound output from sound card when streaming video?

Hello green,

You get sound from your microphone? I don't think I am understanding. Sound should come from your sound card. You plug the speakers into the back of the computer and into the sound card (green jack). The mic receives sound. My mic is USB so it doesn't use any jack other than the USB port, but if you use the sound card, it goes into the purple jack

Do you have the audio driver installed? This should be right: http://support.acer.com/product/defa...x?modelId=2192

Hey Grimreaper!

Sounds like you have a killer setup for sound. (I won't say what I'm using ).

If it were me and the onboard sound system is working great, then I'd stay with the onboard system. If you change your mind in the future, you can always add the external back in.

It sounds as though the driver for the sound card doesnt work on windows 7. Also I think that the driver for the motherboard audio will most likely not work either. A:Sound not working unless i disable and the enable sound card

If only a few months old it may have a defect. Normally parts should last for years and not change in a few months.Still, to eliminate a possible software issue, use the system restore to go back to a earlier time. Try two days back, then four days and so on until you find the critical point where something was changed.IMO you must report this to Dell as soon as possible.

My first post so please be patient with me. My PC is a Dell Dimension 8200, (vintage 2002) Pentium 4, 512 cache, 2GB memory, 120GB HD.

I upgraded my OS from Win XP Pro to Win 7 Ultimate in Nov 2010 and my soundcard completely stopped working as being incompatible with Win 7. There are no updating drivers as it is old technology according to the manufacturer (Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz DSP). Went downtown and bought a replacement and when I tried to install it I found that the connectors didn?t match. The salesman said that Dell uses proprietary connectors therefore I must use a Dell card. Dell doesn?t have any for my outdated system.

So my question is: Will a USB soundcard, (such as the Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro or equal) actually solve my problem, i.e., do everything a regular soundcard does? It just sounds too good to be true!

Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.

A:Computer not 'seeing' Sound card

Hi HutchBall

Are you sure that the sound card is not showing up as other devices or unknown devices in device manager? If not you could try booting up in safe mode and deleting the sound card in device manager if it shows up there. Then try and reinstall it.
You could also try moving the sound card to a different slot and windows may find it then.
It may be too late for this last idea since you did a windows reinstall. Bur if you are running windows 98 you could try booting from a floppy disk to a dos prompt and typing SCANREG /RESTORE then pick a date of the registry just before the problem occured. BOL

A:Sound not working, suspect sound card

I would do the following. download the latest driver from your motherboard manufacturer. Go to device manager and uninstall the device driver, then uninstall the device. restart the computer. Ignore the new hardware found wizard(cancel out). run the driver program. Check to see that the device is now present in device manager. check your sound. If nothing is coming out check your sound properites in the control panel to be sure your device is selected as the playback device, the volumes are up and there are no mute buttons checked.

edit: if none of that works you may need to add in a sound card to an expansion slot.

After I installed Windows 7,I started having a problem with sound. My sound card is onboard Realtek High Definition Audio. The problem is,sometimes I hear a "cht pht" while listening to music, radio, game on computer. After noticing this problem,I installed the latest drivers of Realtek, but nothing changed. Also I tried installing my motherboard's sound driver, but again nothing changed. Then I tried a previous driver cause I heard that it works better but nothing changed. Also I tried using other speakers, but nothing changed.I tried playing with sound settings, including "block all sound effects" but I still have the problem.

What can be the problem, this problem started after I installed Windows 7.

A:No Sound after ComboFix: RealTek Sound Card

That is why most of BC community suggests doing it with the help of an expert or a helper.
Combofix backs up files before deleting them. See in system restore points, any restore point created by CF?
if not,re-install the Windows.

Installed a Creative Soundblaster card and it automatically disables the onboard sound and when looking on recording devices Realtek doesn't show. Can I go into the BIOS screen and re-enable onboard audio (providing it allows me to) and will the Realtek HD Audio once again appear in recording devices along with the "what you hear" option the Soundblaster sets up when installing the soundcard ?  Basically, can you have both Realtek and Soundblaster show in recording devices at the same time and have the option to disable one when your not using it ?
The sound card I'm using is the Soundblaster Audigy RX 7.1.
Thanks for any help

A:onboard sound vs internal sound card

Hi, what does the onboard audio have that your new Creative soundcard does not offer in features? Just curious of your question posted.

I have installed and been enjoying my "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy" sound card, however there is an annoying Windows log on sound that I would like to disable, but can't seem to figure out how. I have searched through the control panel under the "Sounds and Audio Devices" file and looked for it in the event sounds scheme and couldn't locate it. I'm guessing I'll have to delete it from the registry and was hoping someone might know what I should look for.

Any help would be appreciated.

Running Windows XP

A:Remove log on sound from Creative sound card

in the control panel, sounds adn audio devices applet, sounds tab, there under the first group listed which is WINDOWS you will find "Windows logon" it should be the last item listed under the windows category.

As some of you might remember a few weeks ago I had a problem with sound after I built a new PC and kept my old Win installation using sysprep Onboard sound issue with new PC build The problem was that the volume levels were off and instead of having a normal flatline volume were you could hear everything clearly at a good volume level certain sounds were too quiet to hear and others were deafening I came to this forum and after a few responses I decided to do a fresh installation of windows which only did a little to help the particular sound perrsists sound Sound problem new after even card problem Figuring it was a problem with the onboard sound I bought this ASUS XONAR DG Xonar DG Sound Card - Newegg com After I installed the sound card the volume problem persisted and was pretty Sound problem perrsists even after new sound card much exactly the same as before Thankfully this time though there was a setting in the device's audio center called quot SVN quot which is smart volume This setting actually did fix the problem a little and the sound was a lot closer to how I remember it being on my old HP pavilion SVN is not without it's own problems though Now there's clicking noises audio drop outs stuttering and general low quality with that setting on What's more in most games I've played the voices are hard to hear and tend to be drowned out by music or background noise Even though these problems sound bad it's more tolerable than it is with the SVN settings off Without that setting the volume issue goes right back to how it was before I installed the sound card Some might say I'm picky but I know something is wrong with the sound it's not Sound problem perrsists even after new sound card at all like it was on my old PC which had perfect sound I am very very frustrated with this whole thing there has got to be something I'm missing The sound card has nothing to do with the onboard sound correct It is a separate sound device on it's own so why does it have the same exact audio issues as the onboard sound It should be fine without having to turn SVN on so what's the deal Is it my headphones I can't imagine what's causing this and if there is no solution I'm prepared to give up and deal with it

A:Sound problem perrsists even after new sound card

Not all sound is at the same volume level. One MP3, for example, can be louder or softer than another. Same way with wav audio files, audio from the internet, audio on DVD's, etc. System sounds can be at different levels from different programs, and same way with streaming audio from the internet.

I have Audio CD's, both commercial and burned that have different volume levels between songs.

I have a home recording studio and when I mixdown songs, I do it to a preset level. I then run them through an audio editior and set them all to the same reference level. Then when I burn an audio CD all the songs are at the same (or nearly) same volume level.

BTW, when you installed the separate sound card, did you disable the on-board audio in the BIOS? If not, there can be conflicts and varying problems.

Everyone - literally everyone who has posted a review - says the Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro sounds different for them, whether it's better or worse. I've bought one and plugged it in, installed and updated everything, and it sounds identical to my Realtek HD audio, which I hear sounds pretty terrible compared to the Creative card.

The only way to get it to sound different is through the effects, which I don't like and will never use, (aside from the EQ.)

Did I do something wrong?

PS. I'm listening to lossless music through professional monitor headphones.

Hi, I fly MS FSX and I want to be able to chat to ATC with my headphones and then hear the engine noises coming out of my speakers and sub-woofer.

I have a soundcard and my motherboard has onboard sound. I can't find the bios setting to turn it on and I can't see any hint of it anywhere on the computer. Can someone help me get the on board sound going?

My computer is homebuilt, I recently installed Windows 7 pro 64bit. Specs in profile.

Thanks

A:Enabling onboard sound with a sound card

In your bios it is under "Integrated Peripherals" and called "Azalia Codec".

P.S. What you want to do will only work if the chat program you want to use allows you to choose from more than one audio device, if it doesn't then it will only use the Windows default device.

A:Creative Sound Blaster Sound Card

You have to go to creative eax in the start menu and in the lower right hand corner there is a little blue box with eax on it ,click on the little thing that looks like a page in the box and you can dissable it there.

Greetings.
Used onboard sound until today where I remounted my Auzentech X-Fi Forte. I have uninstalled the realtek sounddrivers and deactivated the onboard sound in BIOS.
Everything is playing with the default analog speakers (5.1 setup) through the Forte, except systemsound (logon sound, program error, USB connected/disconnected aso). When open controlpanel -> Sound -> change system sounds I can NOT test the selection. They play allright, I think, but not via the Forte soundcard, so no sound i put out. When selecting Windows soundlevels and move the sliders up and down some bizar thing happen. When placing the cursor over the "speaker-slider" and move it, I hear a DING. But when placing the cursor over the systemsound and move it, no sound is generated.

How do I change that?

A:changed sound card - now no system sound??

Did you get the latest drivers from the Auzentech site and use those?

Hello
First of all I just want to say that any help on the following would be GREATLY appreciated...

I am having problems recording sound directly from my laptop. Only when I plug the headphones that have a mic attached will it record any sound.

Can anyone help?

As I am trying to make some basic tutorials using camtasia and the sounds are vital.

Its not the program as I also have Audacity, and this also says "check driver input" - or something similar

Please could someone help me out and give advice?

I can post screenshots of my specs if necessary, on the sound recording part of sounds in control panel, the only device listed is "Microphone" - I have a Realtek driver and the speakers on my laptop are basically just a little grid on the bottom!
Please help, thanks

I get it with my Altec Lansing FX5051 speakers, they were louder( the hissing noise) when they were onboard, but while plugged into the prelude 7.1 card, the hissing is less, but not completely gone.

What would be the advantages/disadvantages of onboard sound vs a sound card? With a sound add on card are there headers for front panels connections.? Would I see/hear a big difference in the sound?

A:onboard sound vs. Addon sound card

It would depend on what you want from the audio or what applications you have for it. I have a home built using an Intel motherboard that has IDT (SigmaTel) HD audio on it. It's fine for most of the "listening" that I do However, I have a music program that uses MIDI and the default built in Windows/Microsoft GS Wavetable MIDI Synth is pretty bad. For that reason I have a SoundBlaster Xfi installed and SoundBlaster has on board hardware MIDI synths that are much better.

I bought a 5.1 surround sound card, I'm not at home at the moment so I haven't mucked things up yet, but just an idle thought:
If I plug speakers into the PCI sound card, will my front audio connected to my on-board audio still work?

I have a HP Media Center PC. the Model number is a1412n I am dual booting xp and windows 7, and in windows 7 I am not getting any sound. When I went to check it out, I realized that the computer was only recognizing the front audio jack. So i plug my speakers into the front jack but it still says nothing is plugged in. It works fine in XP. does anyone have an Idea? I have a Realtek ALC 882 sound card.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, xprojectd24, and welcome to the forums.

Have you tried installing the Vista drivers from RealTek?
