HP Pavilion dv2500 series crash with multiple monitor instancing

Q: HP Pavilion dv2500 series crash with multiple monitor instancing

Hey guys,
Very recently my computer has been crashing with the jagged lines of death. After it reboots, the screen becomes split up into multiple "instances" of one screen, very similar to if you select the "tiled" option in windows background. Example:
| Normal| Normal Image|
| Image | |
| | |
______ _________ |
|Normal | Normal Image|
|Image | |

Where the box around the outside is my monitor, and four "normal" images (i.e. the desktop, mouse cursor, etc.). No idea what is causing this, however, uninstalling then reinstalling the graphics drivers seems to temporarily fix this. If anyone has heard of a similar problem or knows what to do, please help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

this is videochip faulty(or video memory). afaik, since geforce 8400go, nvidia provides special MXMII videocards in most laptop models. so replacing seems to be simple, but in this model you can't do this. so you can replace MB or repair it

Got a HP Pavilion DV6700 series, model DV6811EO that is running Win7Pro 32bit.

Can not get the USB ports to work at all. Does anyone got a hint on the driver to use? HP do not support this modell, and there is no win 7 drivers for it at all.

The only error in device manager is the unknown device under USB. See enclosed picture please.

I tried all the chipset and other drivers on HP support for vista on this one, but with no luck.

This problem is for all games. I have downloaded the latest drivers from hp 84.54 but nothing. I have tried old drivers, newest drivers but the same. I really need your help, thanx in advance.

@MSspark, welcome to the forum. HP has their motherboards made to their specifications.  Therefore, they are not the same as retail boards.  This presents a possible problem with upgrading to a different board.  The main problem is find a board that has the holes that match the stand-offs in the case. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

A:No dual boot on HP Pavilion DV9500 series

I have the DV9200t and I am booting into Vista x64, Ubuntu Linux, and XP. The problem is similar to yours, and that is if I boot into XP I have to disable the SATA capability in the BIOS and that is a pain each time. I can leave it off all the time but then the drives are not running at full capacity.

I have the latest chipset loaded on. I loaded them after the install. To install I disabled SATA. I am curious if anyone used F6 during Windows install to load the drivers then had luck with SATA enabled?

It is sad HP is taking this course of limiting the OS. Us power users are sought out by friends, peers, management on our opinions. Just think the next time someone ask for our advice on what laptop to go with. I hope HP gets a clue. I have been happy with the laptop other than the multiboot/bios problem.

Please post the BSOD information as it will help us to isolate the problem.Where did you get the video drivers from? I generally avoid Windows Update and HP for video drivers - preferring to get them from (in this case) Have you tried to roll the drivers back? Have you tried removing the old drivers completely, rebooting, and then installing the newly downloaded nVidia drivers? Is this 32 bit or 64 bit Vista? 32 bit Vista doesn't recognize all 4 gB of RAM (I've got it on 2 systems at home). Although I haven't noticed any significant problems with it, I'm starting to wonder if there's any drawbacks to using too much RAM on these systems.

HP Pavilion 15-ab100 Notebook PC series (Touch)
Model # is 15-ab144cy  Serial # is (removed content) and Product ID is 9NE06UA

Notebook was purchased in February 2016 via QVC channel on cable.  (Home Shopping Channel) in US.

A few days ago, the notebook failed to power up.  Not a Windows problem.  It does not get that far.
It would appear this is failing the "power on" test, as there is a series of 3 long beeps, but there is never any video displayed of any kind.  Obviously using the HP Support Assistant is not a viable option.

I tried with differed compatibility settings, as admin, with differed settings and with a microphone plugged in and nothing changes.

But also, recently i tried to play CoD2 for a while and it would crash as normal but sometimes I could play for a few hours then I quit, then start playing again and then it freezes up again.

problem started within the last two weeks. PC just started boosting fan noise and then just blacked out. now each time i turned it on, it will give me 2 options prior loading system: 1) start-up repair - recommended, and 2) start windows normally. i've tried both but it just blacked out every time after a few seconds so i never got to the welcome screen.

i already tried these:1. replacing hard disk with one from broken PC and same problem as above. 2) corrected modem fan because it got fixed the wrong way by someone when they replaced the burned power supply. 3) re-seated the 2 ram sticks. 4) hooking hdd cable onto another slot on the motherboard.

maybe it is also important to note that pressing power button turns on the computer but the power-on light never even blinks or stay on except the hdd light which eventually goes out after a moment.

please help.

A:HP Pavilion G6 Series- Boot Device Not Found Please Install ...

I'd like to add some more info to my post.  I was asking if I was actually booting from my external Hard Drive. The answer was no. For some reason, the computer had fixed itself temporarily, and was booting perfectly fine for about 30 minutes.  It did this twice, before completely stopping again.  I rang HP earlier, to try to ordewr a replacement HDD. I waqs informed that all I needed was a new copy of Windows 7, as I didn't have the Windows 7 disc (it was ex-display model laptop, no copy was given) and they would send a technition round to my house to install it with a CD.  I'd be charged for this ofcourse, apparetly, if I were to go to a computer shop I'd be charged 80 pounds for Win 7 and and extra 70 for installation and fixing the laptop. The man on the phone seemed very wary on telling me the price and I never actually got an estimate.  He gave me a number to call so I could get a Tech sent out, but the number didn't work.  So I rang up the computer shop I love - they are always looking out for you. I explained it to them and what HP Help had said.  My computer shop guy said that It could either be my copy of Win 7 has become corrupt and needs re-installing (but he doubts it is this as it would say 'File is missing', not 'Boot device') or my Hard Drive software has a problem and will need replacing, which it is most likely to be.  His estimates for fixing where - If only Win 7 needs replacing will cost me 30 pounds for that, or if the Hard Drive and Win 7 then it will cost me around 60-70 pounds.  I'm currently burning a Windows 7 Recovery disc to see if that works. If not, will take to the computer shop and keep you updated.   - No offence3 to you HP, and I'd like you to know that I do love my computer to bits, but the computer shop guy did say HP are cr*p as they have fancy shells but the insides are pretty bad and they cost a fair bit to repair. Bare in mind he said this 5 months ago when I had my first couple of problems with it and was buying a spare Dell.

I have found another Intel H81-series motherboard (mDTX form factor), this one from Asus, released in the last 6 months (3Q 2014).This board would be suitable for those HP Pavilion Slimline s3000 and s5000 case owners who desire to upgrade these computer cases for the latest Intel Haswell processors. The Intel i7-4790S, Thermal Design Power (TDP): 65W -- would be a very good choice; a balance of performance, thermal, and power usageASUS H81M-R/C/SI (bulk)Dimensions: 190mm x 170mmExpansion Slots:PCI Express x16 slot: 1x PCI ExpressPCI Express x1 slot: 1x PCI ExpressAsus H81M-R Manual this board is 13mm shorter than the 2007 AMD based mDTX form factor (203mm x 170mm), it does have 2 expansion slots. This would be a suitable replacement motherboard for those owners of HP Pavilion Slimline s3000 and s5000 Desktop PCs --- desiring an upgrade for Windows 8.1 or future Windows 10 operation. The rubber support strip at the bottom left of the case may require repositioning.IF required, carefully remove, and mount with fresh contact adhesive (cement). If you can move your mouse across from one screen to the other you have it set up properly. All you need to do is drag the video screen across onto the other monitor ( if it is full size you will have to shrink it down first)

Also when the computer boots up it says the NTLRD is missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart. Can anyone help?

A:HP Pavillion dv2500 problems

Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

The NTLDR missing message can be a generic term, such as "boot disk not found". Depends upon the computer manufacturer's preferences.

What troubleshooting steps have you performed?
What happens if you put the old HDD back into the computer?

Have you run a HDD diag?
This one? Data Lifeguard?
If your HDD came with a diag disk, run it. If not, download the Lifeguard diag for CD, create a bootable disk & run it.

Do you have a UBCD, ?

Do you have an XP Operating System CD?

If provided by HP, did you create a system recovery CD or set of disks?

Do you know how to make a bootable CD from an. ".iso" file?

The more information you provide, the more likely will success be achieved.

Hi there @Beelady11, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.  I understand that one display is not working with your new computer, but it works with an older one without trouble. I am happy to help you with this. What is the model of the display you are trying to use?Have you checked for drivers for that display? What type of connection are you using to the computer? (VGA/DVI/HDMI)Are you using the exact same connection on the computer when you test with another display? There is a possibility that if you are testing using different connectors, that the ones on the board itself are disabled. This would depend on whether a video card is installed or if you are using the integrated display adapter.See the: HP Pavilion 550-179na Desktop PC Product Specifications and you will seethe following note for the integrated graphics adapter.Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed. This means that the on-board video connections, linked to the integrated adapter would be disabled. Please let me know how that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. I try to run dxdiag and find the sounds
but nothing appear any sound devices

I would like to get some idea if the problem
is the hardware sound card or just only the audio driver

thank you

A:HP Pavillon dv2500 no sound card

You will need to find Xp drivers , You can do this by going to www or going to the manufactures web site for each device. Or you could go to and download there free software drivers program. The card maybe bad but it just maybe the case of the drivers. I have had this happen when switching from vista to XP. Goodluck.

I'm having a problem after reformatting my DV2500 laptop by HP.After waiting 3 hrs. for recovery disc sent from HP,message came up that the recovery failed in (VideoLog) ,HP said my recovery disc were corrupted and I ordered other recovery disc ,and they failed also.Hp then told me it was my Hard drive,I bought another new one and ran recovery disc again,it still failed in (VideoLog). Now I'm wondering if the recovery disc are from a bad batch from HP.I read on several forums that many people are having the same problem with the HP recovery disc. What else could make my laptop recovery fail? I also ran the self help test for the new hard drive and it passed all the test. This lapyop has Windows Vista Home Premium.

Hello PCAdvisor Community I have recently tried to connect my Alienware R Laptop to a television screen not a specialised pc monitor to Problem Multiple - Cards Graphics monitor Multiple use as a second screen I initially had some problems getting the resolution right it cut off the corners of the screen but have since made it mostly fine by using a custom resolution which keeps the majority of the screen The problem occurs when I try to play games on the second monitor the games do not have the option for me to play at the custom resolution I am using x Multiple monitor - Multiple Graphics Cards Problem and if I try to use fullscreen I cannot see the whole game screen I was looking through my graphics properties for my display adaptors An Nvidia GeForce GTX M and an Intel HD Graphics and it seems that my Nvidia card can only detect my additional monitor whereas my Intel one can only detect my actual laptop one this means that I cannot really change the options on both monitors together or change how they interact etc Any help on how to control which adaptor controls which screen or anything else is very much appreciated Thanks in advance

I will admit at the start of this Crash Pavilion Possible? (HP DV7) Every thread I think I have caused these problems by overheating it so much I got this laptop in December but I have Every Crash Possible? (HP Pavilion DV7) been using it on my bed ALOT where it is laying directly on the blanket The first thing I noticed was when I would leave and come back a few hours later sometime it would be at the User login screen like it had crashed and restarted I don't think it slept or hibernated because it would have to load my desktop again and no programs remained open It's weird because my laptop would be idle and didn't ever happen when I was using it for hours pushing it you know Then last week I was on it and it suddenly went to sleep hibernate i will just use sleep cuz I am not sure of the difference So I woke it up again and it slept in another minutes Then later on I had a bunch of youtube tabs open in my browser and the screen went green and said Display driver recovered from error so I thought okay so I went to reload the video and I got a BSoD Every Crash Possible? (HP Pavilion DV7) with error atikmpag sys I disabled the Accelerator in Youtube flash settings and it has not happened again And now I am getting problems where the laptop will goto sleep hibernate and I will have to press power to bring it back randomly OR i won't be able to wake it up and have to hold power to shut it down And then when I have it off or shut down it keeps trying to start up Every Crash Possible? (HP Pavilion DV7) out of nowhere WHEN THE POWER IS OFF I have to unplug the powercord and take out battery sometimes And sometimes it will try to restart out of nowhere and it will get so far into boot and and keep restarting I can't even make it to my desktop I have tryed using both Recommended and Power Saving Plan using just battery plugged in and just cord plugged in I have restored computer back to date when it did not happen No difference I am now keeping it on my desk and plan to get a cooling pad but it's doing all these things still so I fear I have wrecked something permanently Just want some opinion if I have fried something here HP Pavilion dv Notebook PC AMD A - MX APU with Radeon HD Graphics GHz GB installed memory ram bit OS

This is because in Windows 7 the system may shut off power to USB devices to save power. In order to make sure this doesn’t happen you would need to do the following:
Click the Start Menu and then right click “Computer” and select “Properties”.
In the new window select the “Device Manager” link that is in the upper left hand corner.
In the Device Manager window look down towards the bottom of the window for “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”. Click the arrow to the left of this section.
In the drop down menu look for any instances of “USB Root Hub”. When you find the first one right click on it and select “Properties”.
In the USB Root Hub Properties window look for the tab in the upper right that says “Power Management”.
Click on “Power Management” and uncheck the option that says “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Then click “OK”.
Continue to do this for every instance of “USB Root Hub” in device manager.
What we have just done is make sure that the computer does not turn off power to the USB ports when it goes into a Power Saving mode. This should allow us to always wake the PC by use of the USB keyboard or mouse

My HP DV2500 series laptop (2.5 years old) is now giving me blue screen on startup. It is showing a memory bump and the display is showing around 8 snapshots of the loading screen, I used my recovery CD (provided by HP) and recovered couple of times, but once the recovery is done, after couple of days i am getting the same issue. MiniDump file and screen shot of the wrong display attached. Help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

A:HP DV2500 laptop with Vista, blue screen on startup

According to your dump file your issue is with the Nvidia driver nvlddmkn.sys.

1. Download Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper (both have free versions; make sure the version will work with your OS) to your desktop screen and install.

2. Download the latest diver(s) for your video card but don't install them.

3. Uninstall your video card drivers and reboot your PC into Safe Mode. Run Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper but ONLY for the video card drivers. I had someone use it on their chipset drivers! If it doesn't find any video card drivers that is quite okay.

4. Reboot and install new video card drivers.

I would like to setup one, preferably two, external monitors on an Inspiron 15 5000 Series Laptop.
I would like the monitors to work independently (extended?)  ie: Be able to use all *two/three separately - shuffle open windows/pages around between them ..

What do I need to do/buy?

I have not bought monitors yet, but have a source for some used corporate surplus. Going to assume they are not 'the latest greatest' and only have standard hookups (vga or dvi?)

Thanks and appreciation in advance ..

Hi everyone, I'm having issues with some T440/450's lately here at my job. When docked with the ThinkPad Pro Dock (PN: 40A10090US), Dual monitors are not working correctly. We are using a DP and a VGA and the 2nd monitor is coming up as a non-PNP- monitor. The 1st one we can get to update with a driver, shows the model number, but when trying to update the driver on the 2nd, says Windows 7 (64bit) already have the best known driver for it and won't let us update it. Computer Management shows Generic PNP monitor.Ran all windows updatesRan all Lenovo updates including BIOS updates. This is becoming more and more frequent on users at my worksite. I've been searching this site to get some answers, but nothing really solid. What information can someone provide or info I can provide to address this? Thanks

I have had this same problem with my HP Pavilion dv8000. I purchased a 2.5" external case to pull the hard drive out and retrieve my files.... but both XP and Vista won't let me access the main folder everything is stored under... named: valued customer, message: "access denied" (even after taking ownership). the company i purchased it from is MIA ( referbished from I figured it was a password thing that I used in the windows prompt. I've tried the recovery CD that came with the computer, in the dos prompt input R for repair, got to the c:\windows> , "enter" for the admin password, now what? All I want is to pull my photos from traveling for the past 2 years and my itunes songs. [Moderator's edit: remove reference to illegal material] Honestly, I've got all the passwords that could possibly be on this POS... any help?

I recently got an HP 2311x Monitor for Christmas and hooked it to a Lenovo H200 tower. I am unable to get past Windows splash screen. BIOS says "we apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this." I have tried going into safe mode and just about every other option to no avail. I asked HP tech support to see if bad monitor but it is fine. I also called Lenovo Idea tech support and they said a tech will call back. I think something is uncompatible with Lenovo and HP monitor. It worked just fine when it was hooked to an old CRT. Cant handle the latest flat screen technology perhaps?. Any suggestions?

A:Lenovo H Series Desktop is not responding to recent HP 2311x monitor

Do you know anyone you can borrow another monitor from?

Have you checked monitor settings to make sure frequencies are within the range supported by your display device?

Another option would be to manually disable the display adapter driver. What type of display adapter is involved? Intel, NVIDIA, AMD?

Sounds like hardware. I would start by testing memory.
These crashes were caused by memory corruption (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Hello, my laptop monitor recently was cracked and the screen is unreadable. I went out and bought a temporary monitor until I can fix my laptop's. Now the new monitor works in safe mode, but I can't figure out how to get it to run in regular startup. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated .

A:Multiple Monitor/ Cracked main monitor help

You may need to enter the bios and enable the external monitor, or there may be the user option on the keyboard of using a key marked "fn". If you have a "fn" key there will also likely be a key, such as one of the number keys, for example, that will have an icon on it that resembles a monitor screen, maybe two screens. Using that key while holding down the "fn" will switch between monitors in most instances.

Hello wizzar, welcome to the forum

When you have a problem like this over multiple operating systems, it suggests a hardware failure, was your laptop connected to the mains supply when the power went out?
It may help if you were to post a snip Device manager and ensure that your chipset drivers are installed.
When I look for drivers for your laptop I do not find any Windows 7 drivers, what drivers are you using? and if they are the Vista drivers are you installing them in Compatibility Mode

Hi, recently I switched operating systems, for 98 to xp. Now my monitor is very dark no matter what setting I switch it to. I have the brightness up to 100%. I was going to update the driver and I found on a site not to use it with XP. I have minimal computer experience, but I am not sure what to do to improve my monitor. Any suggestions?

this is a 15" monitor and probably cannot handle the default refresh rate of windows xp. i would bump down the resolution to 800x600 and change to 16 bit, and finally the refresh rate to probably 60hz or lowest setting. Go to Control Panel and click Display. Go to the settings tab, then click Advanced. Here you can bump down the refresh rate.

So I'm finding myself pretty disappointed in the way that MS has dealt with multi-monitor support They're moving in the right direction I guess but still not what Monitor Each on - Behavior Monitor Multiple Different I'm ideally looking for meaning it's time to start looking for rd party alternatives as I did with Win So my ideal setup requires essentially setting up monitor as my quot Desktop quot monitor and the other monitor as my quot Start quot monitor The current iteration of Win essentially is Multiple Monitor - Different Behavior on Each Monitor that both monitors will default to either one or the other which seems very shortsighted to me So what I would like is this upon boot one monitor goes to my desktop and the other monitor goes to my start screen I don't want my desktop monitor to ever go to the start screen unless I purposefully open up the start screen with the start button Similarly I don't want my Start screen ever to go to my desktop unless I purposefully open the desktop on it What - mean together is that for example if I open a desktop application that is on my start screen it will be thrown over to my desktop-designated monitor rather than pulling that monitor i e the quot start quot monitor down to the desktop I'd like any notifications that I receive from the Win apps so for example my skype app or my FB app to occur only on my quot start quot monitor and keep them segregated over there Similarly if I close out all my applications in for example my quot start quot monitor I want it to go back to my quot start quot right now because I have my computer set to default to my desktop when I drag down an app to close it I get thrown back to my desktop which is obviously not the behavior I want on the screen that should have all my tiles So essentially I'd like to segregate my quot desktop quot and quot start quot monitors from each other and have each's respective applications only occur in that place unless I force it to do otherwise e g I drag a desktop application into my quot start quot monitor or vice versa I'm not sure if any or all of this is actually possible but I figured this was the place to ask in case some type of third-party software is available to make this work thanks

A:Multiple Monitor - Different Behavior on Each Monitor

In Windows 8.1 each monitor has a taskbar and a Start Button. Clicking the Start Button on that screen opens the Start Screen on that monitor. I have a 3 monitor setup. I can have the Metro Start screen on one monitor and desktop apps on one or both of the others. 8.1 will also let you run Metro Apps on more than one monitor at a time. I usually run Slacker radio and the weather app in snap mode on one screen IE on my main screen and outlook on my third screen.

This will probably sound very stupid to the experts, but I am getting fed up with having to restore my new HP Pavilion V Series with Japanese Vista Home Premium. Up till now I have just let the pc deal with the Dell monitor as is. Should I be installing the drivers for the monitor instead of leaving the pc to assign the default?

Under monitor in Device Manager it just says PnP Monitor.

Thanks in advance.

What problems are you experiencing that cause you to restore the system? FWIW - I never install monitor drivers as I don't use any of the features that the drivers offer.
