Dual core processor problem

Q: Dual core processor problem

I'm having a problem with my laptop, it seems to have a massive drop in performance. I have a AMD Athlon II M300 (2.0Ghz, 1MB L2 Cache) dual core processor. After noticing the lack of performance I checked my windows base score (crude I know) and the score has reduced from 5.7 to 2.9 (it's pretty much halved) The laptop struggles to do medium powered applications and I'm thinking one of the cores has went down (is this even possible?) I've tried using cpu checkers and the speed what comes back is 2.01 ghz, is this right for a dual core, I'm not really sure how it works. Also this test was done directly after a clean install of windows. Any help and advice would be appreciated, thanks. James

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

first of welcome to the forum.

I suspect a rogue program, but as youve updated drivers youve already covered what you can do. it could be a known compatibility issue with your hardware and a specific driver, but i cannot comment for sure as theres alot of hardware combinations.

however, heres the bad news, i recently had a laptop to repair that had the exact same problem, and i couldnt fix it for the life of me, no matter what i tried, the problem even occurred in safe mode (try this if you haven't already) and i eventually after much shouting and swearing, put the problem down to a dying CPU.

Hi,

about 2 years ago I have upgraded my computer with a new motherboard, rams and a processor and since we moved in between I cannot find the boxes or bills from that time.

The problem:
I am 90 percent sure, that at the time I wanted a quad core processor and my computer properties say that I have Intel Core i5-3450.
I googled around and all retailers as well as Intel list this processor as quad, but I whenever I use aplications where cores are displayed (i.e. playclaw or some kind of benchmarking), it only ever shows core 0 and core 1.
When I go to task manager > processes > and go to select affinity on a random process, once again only 2 cores are aviable to choose from.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Because if I am not mistaken I have had my computer on a leash for 2 years...

Okay, here is the scenario.
There are 2 laptops.
One has a 3.0GHz single core.
The other has a 1.5GHz dual core.
The thing I'm asking is: When you buy a laptop that says it's 2.66 GHz triple core, does that mean there are 3 processors each clocked at 2.66 GHz? Or does it mean that there are 3 processors and in total they add up to 2.66 GHz?
Also, is it better to have a 3.0 GHz single core or a 1.5 GHz dual core if you want to run games?
Thanks

Firstly, in task manager, there is only one core recognised (one cpu graph). I have no option to select "one graph, multiple cpus".

Secondly, in device manager, there is only 1 core with no option to select 2 or box for detect HAL.

Lastly BIOS doesn't detect more then 1.

I have processor box unchecked and have uninstalled my CPU from device manager in hopes a restard would re-detect it. I have also updated my mobo & vid card drivers from the site and updated my bios to the latest.

I just bought COD: Black Ops for $60 and it requires a dual core processor to play it, anything else I can try short of re-installing windows?

First and foremost thanks go out to anyone and everyone who can help me with this.

I've recently installed 7, clean install, not an upgrade. I have an Amd Athlon X2 3800+ installed and I installed 7 as a 64bit OS as well. I had this problem before 7 and could never solve it. The core doesn't show up in task manager and I've tried installing drivers from AMD, which say they are the incorrect version for the windows 7 Operating system so i installed them in compatibility mode which didn't seem to solve anything. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the processor and frankly I just don't know what to do! In Pc Wizard 2009, It tells me the number of cores is 2, but then only one core is enabled.

If anyone has any help for me that would be fantastic. Thank you! If you need any additional information please let me know.

No there will not be any conflict. If the motherboard has a BIOS that supports dual-core processsors, it will use both cores present on each processor.

can you sot these processor from best to worst and what is the difference?

core 2 Duo 2.2GHz
core i3 2.2GHz
core i5 2.2GHz

A:processor i3 Vs i5 vs dual core

Okay, let me see if I can remember it all - or at least some of it. The new i3/5/7 processors are smarter and designed a whole lot better than the old range of Intel chips. For the moment it's best to ignore the GHz because it doesn't mean what it used to (at least not with the i range; what I'm trying to say is, you looked at two processors before and if one clock speed was faster than the other and the price would right you would go for that one).

The i range of processors, even the entry level i3 is faster than the equivalent core 2 Duo (well, an i3 compared to an Intel P E6500 it's supposed to be 40% faster 'multitasking', 78% faster with photo and video content and 26% increased productivity whilst an i5 compared to a core duo is 2.7x, 2.8x, 2x respectively). The reason it is faster is because of a combination of turbo boost and hyper threading. Turbo Boost is an overclocker that is built into the processor's tech to kick in when the system requires it and back off when it doesn't - not new technology but damn handy nevertheless. It's important to note that only the i5 and i7 has Turbo boost unfortunately.

Hyperthreading is much more exciting and it's the reason that the GHz indicated there isn't an accurate representation of the speed that is possible. HT allows 2-way (for dual core chips) and 4-way (for quad cores) 'multitask processing' which allows each core to work on two tasks at the same time. This effectively doubles (well almost) the cores your machine has without actually having to have the physical cores present. HT is available across the new i range of processors.

There are other features they are ranting about like integrated HD graphics and a 32nm size, but that there is the break down of the stuff that matters. I could have just said a simple Core Duo, i3, i5 as rated from worst to better, but I'd rather have you understand why than have you shrug and move on.
I hope that helped (you would never guess that I'm an AMD man)…

I am not much of a hardware guy, so excuse my basic question.

I am trying to determine if an XP Pro machine meets certain specs, specifically if it has a dual core processor.

Machine number 1 is definitely dual core. When I open the computer properties, it says pentium dual Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50Ghz 2.49GHz. Also, when I open up the task manager, I see two windows for CPU utilization.

However, for Machine number 2, the CPU is a Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.320GHz 2.19 Ghz. It also has two windows for Cpu utilization in the task manager. Even though it specifically does not say that it is dual core, can I assume that it is?

Hello I m sorry if someone has posted this before but I cannot find any reference to optimal operating temps for the new AM processors I think on AMD s website says the max temp is upto something but I was wondering if my temps are too high Now I am using some Antec silver-based thermal paste and I m not sure if I applied too much or not It was thicker in some places than others temps? AM2 dual-core AMD processor not uniformly smooth and it covers a lot of the whole die but not the edges So should I reapply AMD dual-core AM2 processor temps? it I also initially used an oil-based nail polish remover to clean the cpu and heat sink but have since removed all that and re-cleaned AMD dual-core AM2 processor temps? with isopropyl alcohol and reapplied the paste The heatsink Thermalright Ultra- came with some white paste which I believe would be silicone based not metallic which I did not use Should I use that instead I m averaging between - or so from idle to load By load I mean I quot m recording channels at once from my tv tuner while watching one of them on vista media center When I stop media center the temps still stay around and I think they should be lower I ve only done this days ago and maybe I should wait longer for the temps to get lower BTW the heatsink is barely warm to the touch shouldn t it be quite hot A friend of mine says his are or so at idle and that sounds too low Mind you he has extra fans on his case and I m trying to keep mine quiet Maybe I need better airflow for my case I ve currently got a mm fan on the heatsink and more mm fan in front of the case blowing air outwards I ve read in many places that this is wrong and it should be sucking in air from outside not pushing it out I m also supposed to add more fan to the back of the case nbsp

thats about right, never complain about too low.... only be concerned about too hot. If it all seems ok and your worried about low idle temp I wouldn't worry.
the fan placement that i see pretty much standard is always blowing out the back, with everything else brining air in. Put the 120 on the rear blowing out, asap. That should be fine.

The E2160 would be quite okay, and can be OCed quite nicely as well. The E4500 will be noticeably faster from the get-go though, so it solely rests upon whether or not you are willing to OC. I had always thought you had to get a new motherboard, I had not known that it was possible to upgrade the processor, until I read the following;

"An attractive value of dual core processors is that they do not require a new motherboard, but can be used in existing boards that feature the correct socket. For the average user the difference in performance will be most noticeable in multi-tasking until more software is SMT aware."

So how do I go about finding out if I can upgrade to dual core?

These are my specs as far as I can see;

# Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
# Currently Installed Memory: 1GB DDR
# Available Memory Slots: 1
# Total Memory Slots: 3
# Dual Channel Support: No
# CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
# CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz Model 2, Stepping 4
# CPU Speed: 2017 MHz

Many thanks.

I just bought a brand new computer from Best Buy and had a question that the people at the store just kind of blew me off on.

Hewlett-Packard Company
HP Pavilion
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 3800+
1.00 GHz, 960 MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

is what the properties under my computer read. Now since Ive purchased it it has stayed at 1.00 GHz and all the other computers ive ever owned have always had 2.0+

On very few occasions I checked the properties again and it says 1.8GHz and everything im doing runs a lot smoother.

Is there anyway I can make it stay running at maximum? or do anything to remedy this issue?

Hey there guys, not sure if this is the right area for this or not, but im looking to pick up a new AMD Athlon? X2 Dual-Core processor at 3 Ghz.

Now Right now I have a P4 2.4 Ghz Socket 478, and I would like to upgrade my CPU, but cant really see this socket type going much higher than a single 3 ghz.

I am looking to invest in the AMD Athlon? X2 Dual-Core, but Im not sure which mobo I would need to be able to have it work properly.

Unless you guys can just recommend a good upgrade to my cpu which wont have me get a new mobo.

thanks guys!

A:debating AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core processor

I just did a search, & I think the socket 478 is for Intel CPU's. If you want an AMD CPU,
you could probably find a combo deal of CPU & motherboard at NewEgg, TigerDirect, or
Fry's Electronics at reasonable prices over just buying a 3.0 ghz CPU.

Well, now I have a problem that I don't find a ready solution for. I have the AMD X2 dual-core processor, and I'm experiencing periodic stuttering with audio from any source or application. I've tried a number of MP3 players, all have the problem, including WMP.

When I search for the problem, I see lots of people talking about it, but no real solutions. I have installed the AMD dual-core optimization driver, but that doesn't seem to have done the trick.

Do any of the folks running AMD dual-core processors see this issue? More importantly, has anyone come up with a solution?

A:Et1831-05 can I upgrade my processor to dual core

It depends on the chipset used in the motherboard, power requirements of the new cpu and the old motherboard's ability to provide that power, and if the BIOS has any limitations added by the manufacture that may supersede the chipset design.

First, what is your budget?

Second, what games would you like to be able to play?

Third, what Operating System are you running: XP or Vista?

Without a doubt you need more memory. 256 is bare minimum to run XP.

* I looked up your motherboard and you can run upt to 4 gigs of memory but only do so if you are running a 64-bit Operating System. You can also run PCI-express video cards.

Hi: Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. Supported processors can be found in chapter 1, page 1. Removal and replacement procedures can be found in chapter 4. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02619136.pdf You would have to contact HP and ask how much they would charge to upgrade the processor. If they even agreed to do it, I bet it would cost more than if you bought a new Mini 210-2100 with the dual core processor in it already. Get a used but tested and working processor on eBay and either do it yourself (if you feel up to the challenge), or take it to a reputable PC repair place and have them do it. You can give them the link to the service manual, if they don't already have the info on the notebook. Paul

Most programs designed for a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows will work on a computer running 64-bit versions of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs, and some hardware drivers.

Drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows do not work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows.

Tried running it on a dual core machine that is also a "green machine" (it adjusts is clock speed based on the processor loading). The MMT no longer fires reliably. sometimes the latency is several seconds. Has anyone experienced this, heard of it???? any solutions.

I disabled the dual core functionality in bios, I elevated the process priority to near real time and real time with no success.

One I can confirm does work for sure is Photoshop - use it on mine with no problems. As for partitions, I wouldn't bother - just get another HDD to put your data on. With modern systems that have their recovery data on a hidden partition you're better off leaving the main drive well alone.

Hi Sharon.

If your game then so am I.

All the things you stated sound like a possible infection or operating system corruption due to unknown reasons. Although none, or a questionable one, was found. I am in total agreement with Garmanma. Also the fact that the rootkit scan is disabled in AVG causes me some concern.

Seems you already have a pretty good idea how to format the drive and reinstall your OS and drivers....... But would like to take it one step further in this case though. I would like to have you wipe the entire hard drive to zeroes prior to formatting and installing the OS. This would include what is called the MBR = Master Boot Record, the partition the OS is on as well as the restore partition. Of course this would leave you only the option of reinstalling via the CD. All pre-installed software will be gone for good. Complete restore CDs are usually available from the OEM for a nominal cost.

The only reason I suggest this manner is, 1)The problems you are describing does somewhat resemble infection symptoms. 2)Depending on the possible infection type a simple reformat may not get rid of it. I have also read that it is possible for the restore partition can become infected as well.

The procedures are really pretty easy, the program(s) to wipe the drive to zeroes is free and we will do our best to get you through the whole procedure as painlessly as possible.

Let me know what you decide.

A:AMD Turion X2 dual-core P520 2.3 GHz or Intel Pentium Dual-Core P6100 2.0 GHz?

Confused

I'm sorry to bother you folks again, but I noticed that my question had 55 views but no replies. Did I perhaps give incorrect or confusing information, or maybe posted my question in the wrong forum? I tried looking at some of the other similar questions asked, but none seemed to help with my question.

I guess I'm basically wondering that since the 2 Acer laptops are the same price, would you go with the Intel Pentium Dual-Core P6100, 2.0GHz, 3MB L3 cache, or the AMD Turion X2 dual-core P520, 2.3 GHz, 1066MHz Front Side Bus, 2MB L2 cache. This laptop also has a Blu-Ray Disc Drive, but I've read conflicting opinions on whether having this is necessary or not.

Although I consider myself to be an intermediate computer user, I am lost when it comes to processors, and also when it comes to 'dedicated amount of system memory.' I know that 'dedicated' memory is better, but does it make a difference how much there is in different brands? In other words, could the lesser amount of 128MB 'dedicated' in the Pentium still be better than the 256MB in the AMD? I'm leaning toward the AMD Turion laptop because of the higher numbers, but I've read enough to know that you can't always rely on that alone.

I'm sorry to ask my question again, but I've been given a lot of help here at CNET in the past, so I was surprised when I logged on today to see that no one expressed an opinion on which one of the two they would buy.

Any assistance would really be helpful and appreciated.....Gina

I should also mention that the AMD laptop also has a Blue-Ray Disc drive (and read/writes normal CDs and DVDs).

The only other major difference when comparing specs is that the AMD laptop has an HD CineCrystal LED-backlit TFT widescreen display, ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphics with 256MB of dedicated system memory, supporting Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD2), OpenEXR High Dynamic-Range (HDR) technology, Shader Model 4.0, Microsoft DirectX 10.1

hey just wonderinf if anyone could help me choose out of these two processors.would be greatly appreciated

AMD Athlon Dual-Core QL-67 (2.2GHz, HyperTransport? 3: up to 4.0 (GT/sec), 2MB L2 Cache)

Intel® Pentium® processor T4300 (2.1GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache)
thank you

A:Comparing amd athlon dual core and intel pentium dual core

They are quite similar. Both have nearly the same clock speed. Both have a total of 1MB of L2cache but the intel's is shared and the AMD's is exclusive. The intel is 45nm and the AMD is 65nm which means the AMD will run hotter most likely. The AMD gets a boost from its on die memory controller and HyperTransport links on its motherboard. Both are capable of running full 64 operating systems.

The best difference between them would be as to what is on board their respective laptop. The AMD will have quite respectable performance from its video chip as I would hope it either a Radeon HD 3200 or better a 4200 with SidePort memory. These are about the best you can get for integrated video these days. The intel will undoubtedly have a GMA4500. These don't game very well nor do they do a very good job of playing high def video. The AMD chipset should have a fairly complete selection of connectors and functions. The interl may or may not, depending on the maker.

Both chips have a TDP of 35 Watts. The intel should offer slightly longer battery life for a given series of tasks, say about a half hour.

As you can see, these two CPUs are quite similar on and of themselves, the supporting cast of laptop parts makes or breaks the deal.

I am using an Intel Core 2 processor. With motherboard Gigabyte 945. I have xp pro version 2002 service pack 3, v.3244. I am also using Ubuntu 8.04 and I use grub boot loader.

My problem is when i want to shut down xp it shuts down and within 1 sec it starts again. I have tried starting in safe mode and "sc config intelppm start= disabled" writing this command in cmd but this didn't help.
My pc shut downs properly in Ubuntu 8.04.

I have the same issue and what it seems is that MICROSUCK is not doing anything about a fix for this issue. I have to press the power button on my new system to force a shut down.
Rumor has it that there's already a class action against MICROSUCK for thier latest **** UP. God a hate windows!
From what I read around the web, we're better off doing a clean install and forget about SP3 until those dumbmothers get their **** together.

I am looking to build my own PC as I can't afford Ł1,000+ to get someone to make one for me, I will be using it for gaming and communication and a little college work, I will probably be using Bullguard to protect it and OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office with a Win 7 64bit OS.

Bearing this in mind what would be the best Processor for the Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor and what would be the maximum Memory and Storage I could attach to it? ( I preferably want 8GB of Memory and 1tb of storage ) but I can be flexible.

A:What would be the best motherboard for a Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor?

The CPU you want is the i5 3570K. That runs on the socket LGA 1155. When you are on a budget, any mid range mobo will suit your needs. Use the savings from the mobo towards a better HDD or even an SSD. You will also need a GPU.

I would recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. As for RAM, 8GB is enough. As for the HDD, 1TB is great. I recommend the WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD.

Make sure you can get in a GPU.

Does Device Manager show Computer, show ACPI Multiprocessor PC? (screenshot)

If it does, note that Du Core operation is partly dependent on the software. If Windows shows Multiprocessor PC and under Processors you see them all. Then Windows will automatically use both processor IF THE APPLICATION SUPPORTS THIS.

Example: One of my games (forget which), after an update, had a Use Multiprocessor option added. With that option enabled, the game ran much better.

A:AMD A4-5000 "Quad Core" vs Intel Core i3-4005U Dual Core

Hmm, I guess you should read some reviews. But just from the specs the AMD has 6 GB ram instead of 4. Has a DVD burner where the Intel shows no optical drive. It only has W8 8.0 where the Intel has 8.1. But some people may prefer 8.0.

Read reviews. See how each performs. If you don't wish to use it to burn DVD then the optical drive, or lack thereof may not matter to you.

Edit: Oh, and the AMD is about $80 cheaper.

I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly.

However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors.

My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

These seem to be conflicting and I'm not sure what to do. Please help me.

Quite often when shutting down a program, the process will suddenly decide it would rather not quit, and sky rockets up to about 50% of the clock cycles of the machine (this may be directly related to the fact that it's dual core). Sometimes many of them do it, causing other legitimate processes to have issues fighting for resources. Also, it appears to happen very often in the face of power management events--such as unplugging the AC adapter or plugging it back in--but this may just because several processes are launched when that happens, I'm not sure.

It's a very strange problem; I'm not even sure how I would search for its solution, which is why I'm here.

Hi, Currently I'm using a dual core 6850 and I'm thinking about buying a quad core. I have a PSU of 500 W as spare.

Can i replace the CPU to a Quad Core without changing the cooling system?

A:replace dual core CPU by quad core what about heatsink? in Mini Tower 755 Optiplex

heinflhs
These are the specs of the spare PSU. Aren't they better than the original Dell PSU?
That power supply is ATX and not EPS12V
Better is not the issue.  Dell power supplys are 80 percent efficient not 70 percent ATX.  The -5v rail is an issue as well as this may cause a motherboard fire or damage your system.  Its a dead giveaway that this is a power supply from 1990 to 2000.
What current is on which rails is not trivial. There is a single 12V RAIL on that unit and its max is 17A
EPS 12V units have multiple rails of 12V @ 18 amps each.  MAX Power on the 12V rails is 264w not 204w
That unit has a lot more on the 5V and 3.3V rails at the expense of the 12V rails and CPU 4 pin connector. So no that spare unit is not likely to work well if at all.

Recommended update or replacement is EVGA 750B1

Hey all,
I have some proprietary software that works great on a single-core processor. When I try to run it on a dual-core or above, the software loads, works once, and then messes up.

The software uses modems to dial out to our payphones. We found a work-around by turning off one processor in the bios, but then, what's the point of having a dual-core processor.

Please help. The software is doing this on Windows XP.

Hello friends,
I m very eager to know that whats the actual difference between a Core 2 Duo processor and a Pentium Dual Core processor, other than their proceesing architecture?

According to most benchmarking sites including Tom's Hardware, Core 2 Duo E4300 or 6300 performs better than Pentium Dual Core 820 in almost all benchmarks.....whereas C2D E4300 or E6300(1.8 and 1.86 Ghz respectievely) are having MUCH lower clock speeds than Pentium D 820(2.8Ghz). Why like this???

I have 2 systems, one with C2D E4300 1.86 Ghz and another(from which I am writing this thread) is Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz. But I dont see any MUCH performance difference in reality, although in multi-tasking and gaming C2D system still performs better.

Can anybody please explain me in details.....
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
TheHacker

A:Why Core 2 Duo outperforms Pentium Dual Core even when C2D has lower clock Speed??

The Core 2 Duo doesn't share the same architecture as the older NetBurst architecture of the Pentium D, which is also shared by the Pentium 4. The Pentium D is effectively a pair of Pentium 4 CPUs on one die. The Core 2 Duo architecture allows for a lot more processing to be done in one cycle, hence more information can be pushed in, say, 1 million cycles by the Core 2 Duo than the Pentium D. As for 'reality', there obviously won't be much difference when both systems are used for stuff like playing music etc. But the real differences will show up when you tax them, such as when playing an HD video without a video card supporting HD-decoding where the Core 2 Duo will be able to process information much more quicker than the Pentium D and so you will have a smoother image. Check on Wikipedia for more in-depth details.

Hi,
I have two laptops made by the same manufacturer and same year, but one is a dual core laptop with an SSD harddrive and the other is a quad core laptop with a regular hard drive. Both laptops run Windows 8.

I would like to transfer my programs and files from the dual core to the quad core. However, obviously the quad core has different hardware.

I am wondering if I simply remove the SSD from the dual core and put it into the quad core (replacing the quad's primary hard drive with the SSD) and simply boot up the quad core, would that be sufficient? Will the quad core recognize the hardware mismatch and automatically correct the drivers, while keeping my programs and files?

Or is there some other, efficient way to make the transfer? I really want to avoid having to reinstall all my programs.

Thank you

There are a lot of third party tools designed to move a Windows installation to new hardware. I prefer using native Windows tool Sysprep for this, mainly because the method is the one and only Microsoft supports and recommends but also because it has never failed me.

The method is described in this tutorial on our sister site the Seven Forums and works also with Windows 8: Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer - Windows 7 Help Forums. Method One in tutorial would be ideal for you for moving the SSD to new computer.

Read the information and warnings in the beginning of the tutorial carefully, especially the warning about Windows needing to be reactivated is important. Come back if you have any questions.

Simply put- RED Blue Screens. I don't know what I need to call them. THEY ARE RED! And they just reference "An error reading the instruction set" There is no STOP Error. I upgraded the Processor from AMD Athlon x2 5000+ to an AMD Phenom x4 9650. I have not overclocked it. In fact, first thing I did after installing it was reset CMOS.

I've checked for minidumps relating to this issue but there are none. I am running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

I've tried doing research but my results are non-conclusive.

A:Strange Behaviour after Upgrading to AMD Quad-Core from Dual-Core

Hello Timmah,
Everything is running OK, you drop in the new CPU, then you start getting problems.
Have you double checked all the connections and power leads, plus all the data cables ?.
Is there a Bios update that will address the issue ?, it may be worth checking the MB manufacturers site.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I was just interested in knowing if my intel celeron D 335 2.80GHz processor is dual core or single core because on intel's website, I see that they make a dual and single core version but I can't determine which one mine is?

Thanks.

A:Solved: Intel Celeron D 335: Dual core or Single core

It's a single core.

There are dual core Celerons, but yours isn't.

Just a quick question. I know daul core means two cores on one chip. But if you have a 2.0ghz daul core cpu dose it mean you are equal to or better than a 4.0ghz
cpu? People keep asking me this. They want to know if they have a peice of software that requires a 3.0ghz cpu and they have a 1.5ghz daul core if they can run the software.
I'm just not understanding single core to daul core thing completely and i am not sure if i am answering them correctly. I think so but just want to confirm.

A:Core 2 duo, dual core, and Athlon64 X2 Dual Core

No. It simply means you have more than 1 CPU on the die. A 4 core 2.0 CPU means you have four (4) 2.0ghz cores on the die.

At this point, just because a GHz is faster doesn't mean the system or the die is faster or slower than others. There are many things now that affect speed - ram (or lack thereof), the efficiency of the programs to multi-task, HD rpm, chipsets, and others. The trend to faster GHz CPUs with single cores ended a couple of years ago as CPU makers discovered they ran into a thermal barriers with smaller circuitry that they couldn't get around. So they decicded it would be better to put more than one CPU on the die. Thus we got multi core CPUs. Yes- even here they are trying to make each core faster, but there is still a thermal barrier.

For the most part, you really won't notice much of a difference in speed after a certain point. - You have to take the whole system together. Gamers need to pay special close attention to their graphics cards and RAM.

Can any body tell me the main diff between the core 2 duo processor and core 2 duo processor with centrino.

Thanks

A:Diff between centrino processor and core 2 duo processor

In a word nothing, the centrino branding does not refer to any specific additions to the processor, it is simply a label that is attached to laptops which use intel branded processor, integrated graphics and wireless chips.

Centrino is more of a marketing tool that Intel use to boost sales of their graphics and wireless chips, so you can pretty much ignore it

Hi, I have Intel Pentium D 2.66 GHz CPU on Asus P5RD2-VM motherboard running windows XP operating system with 512 MB RAM. Recently I am noticing that my CPU-1 does more work than CPU-2. I have not set the Affinity of any program and also have /usepmtimer in my boot.ini file. Please help me to troubleshoot this problem.

You'll not get any reward for this, but the self satisfaction of helping someone could be good enough

Hi
which model pentium 4 has socket LGA775 was implemented.
I mean which model brand hp or compaq or HCL or ibm ? year & model required.
I prefer to buy that model so that i can upgrade to latest processors.

Another question:
Will Pentium 4 with Socket LGA 775 supports any chipset model for upgradation to
1.Core 2 Duo
or
2.Dual core processors ?
If not pls give me the Chipset models support for the upgradation.

My plan is buy used pentium 4 LGA 775 & upgrade to new processor(only processor using same motherboard of the old one) which eliminates/reduces cost for upgradation.

Is this right plan or is there any complication in upgradation.

A:Pentium 4 lga775 upgrade to Dual core or Core 2 Duo

pathardware first please read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_775

The list of processors using LGA 775 are listed on that page. As for your question, YES some P4 motherboards might support Dual Core and Core 2 Duo.

My Current motherboard is an ASUS P5B-MX/WiFi AP and I'm running a P4 Prescott on it. The CPU support list on the ASUS website lists Dual Core, Core 2 Duo and Quad Core support (With BIOS upgrade). My P4 actually was part of a Compaq system purchased way back in 2005. After that the rest of the system (barring monitor and processor) has had major overhauls.

But, as for your plan, I would suggest you go about building an entry level new system by yourself.

Since I couldn't get specs on the AMD Turion in terms of cache, etc. (the Intel one in the title is 2M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) I couldn't figure out which is the better processor.

Does anyone know? Is there also a website I can reference that can compare them?

both Intel and AMD have processor specifiction sheets on their websites, give them a try

Is it possible to change the dual core processor I have for an i5 processor, is this type of motherboard capable of taking it? I have some screen captures from CPUID of my system specs, hopefully that will be enough info. If it can't take the i5 could it take any other quad-core processor?

I have a Compaq Pressario desktop PC, Windows 7 64 bit, 4GB DDR3 RAM.

Thanks

Thanks.
