Memory Stick Pro Duo won't show music files

Q: Memory Stick Pro Duo won't show music files

(if this is in the wrong section, my bad)

for mlb 08 the show, you can choose to add your own music from the MS Pro Duo Card. I have songs that can be played in the mp3 player in the PSP, but when i want to load up songs to the game, it won't recognize the files and say i don't have any songs on the card.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok I m starting to lose the will to live here I m trying USB Memory not show stick will to connect my sony ericcson K i to my pc and everything is working fine apart from the one thing that should be working without any issues the SE memory stick duo Having used copious amounts of memory stick hardware USB Memory stick will not show in USB Memory stick will not show the past I know there was not an issue with my o s config and that it recognised OEM plug and play devices and installed without problem However now it will not install any new USB Mass storage devices whatsoever If they had been previously installed then they are identified and will work When the Hardware Wizard does it s thing it recognises that it s a Sony Erics Memory Stick but continually returns a message saying that it cannot be installed as the software cannot be found The memory stick itself does not require additional driver software and should be recognised as a removable storage device I ve been through various posts and have completed the following gt Installed patch in registry to prevent USB hibernation gt Checked key HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services UsbStor to make sure USB storage devices are permitted set to gt Done a complete clean install of all USB devices gt Switched PC off and unplugged to allow residual current to escape from motherboard gt Updated usbstor inf gt System restored I don t know what else to do Personal opinion is that I must have a corrupt file somewhere which is impacting the Wizard s ability to associate the correct software to the memory stick I believe this because the wizard knows it s a memory stick but never finds any corresponding software Also whenever I try to update ANY driver for existing pre-installed devices it never finds software I would normally expect it to say that the driver used is most up to date Any suggestions O S XP SP nbsp

I want to download music to a memory stick (USB) so that I can play this in my car. I would like some advice as to which are the best websites to purchase singles from as I don't want full CD's and how can I download these onto the memory stick as I have not used one before. I Have Windows 7 Ultimate with 4Gigs of memory and 500 gigs for hard disc. My taste in music is not POP but more to Classic or Whitney Houston Barbara Streisand Johny Mathis etc. I would be glad of a ltlle help on this thanks Bobbysgirl.

A:Music Downloads to Memory stick

What file format does the car stereo support?

There are only a few places to legally download music. iTunes and Amazon are the sites in the US I know of. I don't know if any UK-based company has any additional offerings.

You don't own any CDs to rip?

A long-used 128MB Sony Memory Stick suddenly won't let me delete files. The files all follow my Sony camera's numbering scheme. Windows Explorer shows each to be a 0 byte JPG file. When I delete one, the process appears to progress correctly, but the file name re-appears at the END of the list!

An "Error check" shows no errors.

About 10 MB of the volume shows that it's in use.

I suppose if this isn't corrected, and the camera still works OK, I could live with a 10% loss, but I'm fearful that this is a sign of bigger problems to come....

Hi there,

For some reason my memory stick wont run .exe files. Namely the 'Imationlockv224.exe' encryption software that allows me to access the Imation memory stick.

The handle is invalid.

I tried another memory stick and the same problem occured. I can view photos, open documents but when i try to run an .exe program (in this case Truecrypt setup program) it comes up with the following error.

E:\Truecrypt Setup.exe
The handle is invalid.

The problem did not occur when using the memory stick on my desktop.

laptop: Acer Extensa 5220 running windows XP pro
Desktop: Cant remember but also running XP pro (not at home at the moment to check)

Not sure if this is a software or hardware problem....

Thanks in advance

A:Memory stick wont run .exe files.

Sounds more like a lockdown for security purposes. There are reasons to NOT ALLOW exe files to run from memory sticks.

You might want to try this.
Via control panel select folders(classic view in vista) and from the "View" drop down menu choose "Show Hidden Files" then click apply.
Search the memory stick again.
If not there try C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME \AppData

Hello, when i plugged in my memory stick this morning to finish off the last of my college work and to back it u to my computer i was greeted with all of my folders and files names being changed and unable to open any of them, is there a solution to fix all this as there is my years worth of college work on here. Also when I try to scan and fix my memory stick and attempt to recover bad sectors it stops and says "Windows cant check the disc while its in use" and asks if i want to force dismount.
I have no idea how to resolve this and would appreciate any help at all as my assignments have to be in for Tuesday. Thank you.

A few days ago my memory stick was used by a co-worker to save some files from another computer When it came back to me it was obviously infected with some kind of virus I have done a number of things deleted many exe files that had been saved to look like folders the folders have been hidden somehow some way other than Hide Folders ran McAfee Virus Scan on the memory stick and it did not find anything AVG free anti-virus nothing Anti-spyware programs Spybot Spywareblaster SuperAnti-Spyware AdAware Spyware Doctor -- all USB files [Moved] stick memory inaccessible infected, show nothing Just to be clear if there was a folder before that was named quot Photos quot now instead there was a EXE file with the name Photos exe I use Display USB memory stick infected, files inaccessible [Moved] Extensions so it was immediately obvious to me the virus had replaced my folders with itself All the file sizes of these exe files were exactly K There were about folders replaced this way which was all of USB memory stick infected, files inaccessible [Moved] them Now in the past when a similar virus has infected my USB all I needed to do was scan USB memory stick infected, files inaccessible [Moved] it with McAfee which would kill the virus one file at a time and then after that go to Explore Tools Folder Options View choose Show Hidden Files and Folders the virus had selected Do Not Show Hidden Files and Folders All the old folders which had been hidden would then reappear This time when I do that the lost folders don't reappear My first reaction was that they had been deleted by the virus However when I go to Explorer and right click on my USB memory stick drive it shows up as drive E there it shows mb used free on the memory stick I only had about mb of files left on this memory stick after deleting all the exe files As a double-check I also deleted everything else that was still left on the USB memory stick so there should be nothing left totally empty Well no Now when I right-click on the USB in Windows Explorer it shows mb used I think that the files were hidden on the USB in some new way that is not just hidden folders The virus may also have hidden itself in there but that's just speculation Any ideas how to fix this Any help would be appreciated I should tell you that I already sought advice on another tech forum and they just suggested trying programs called Flash Disinfector and ClamWin neither of which had any effect At this point the main problem is that the files on the memory stick are not accessible The virus has hidden them in some way other than Hide Files and Folders in Windows Explorer At my job I was able to 'explore' the memory stick using ACDSee's built-in explorer feature - and was able to see that the old folders at least are still there Later when I scanned it at home using ClamWin as it scanned I saw that it was scanning many of the old files I had on there SO the files and folders are still there Just not accessible So if you offer some help please first address this one of how to access the hidden files and folders and not how to run different kinds of anti-virus software If this behaves the way the previous virus did then deleting those exe files got rid of the virus already Also I think whatever is preventing Windows Explorer or most other programs from exploring the USB stick probably will also likely prevent any anti-virus spyware software from accessing the concealed files and folders The other forum where I asked about this seems to be stumped -- nobody is replying anymore about it at this point THanks for any help Billermo

A:USB memory stick infected, files inaccessible [Moved]

One more clue: I was able to use ACDSee to COPY the contents of the USB Memory stick via ACDSee and paste them into a new folder on the desktop. That worked to a degree. If I right click on that folder it shows it contains 167mb. However if I open it, nothign appears to be inside it.

In this case and in every case above, I have already tried goign into Windows Explorer: Tools: Folder Options: View: Show Hidden Files and Folders and clicked Apply and OK. Doing that has had no effect. Everythign remains hidden.

I saved 8Gb of music to an 8Gb memory stick (I have been using the stick fine for about a month before the music went on.) I thought that the music had gone on fine, as the normal time bar procedure happened. When i get to put the music back, i find that about 300 songs have copied fine but the other 900 songs have gone and been replaced by about 9 songs that have repeated about 100 times each. None of the songs will play on any machine. What has happened.

A:Memory stick repeating files hundreds of times

Memory Sticks or Flash Drives as they are called, are subject to damage from static electricity and other environmental conditions.
They aren't much good for "Permanent" storage.

In your case, I'd advise making sure you have a HD copy of all the data and then reformat the Flash Drive. Then try copying the data back to it.
Make sure that the amount of data does NOT exceed the capacity of the Flash Drive.

If it's not totally hozed, that should straighten it out.

Same story on another pc. Could it be the culprit is a portable .exe file I copied on it? The trouble started right after that. The usb stick was almost full.

I am running Windows XP in a Compaq Presario, with CD reader and CD/DVD burner.
My question: How do I get a DVD(with photos and sound) onto a Flash Memory stick or an SD card??

A:Transfer DVD to Memory Stick or Memory card

Simplest method:

Insert the Disc with photos and sound (close any autorun)
Go to My Computer
Right Click on the CD/DVD drive (with your photos and sound in) and select open
Click on Edit (in Toolbar) then Select all
Click on Edit (in Toolbar again) and select copy

Close the folder

Insert your Flash Memory stick and select Open folder to view the files
Click on Edit (in Toolbar again) and select paste

All done Copy and paste (some say I'm good at this !)

Completely new to this so apologies if barking up the wrong tree .... !

Rather than buying a 32 gb memory stick to upload some important jpg pictures into for safety's sake, I'm wondering if it's possible to upload and store them in a spare and unused 32gb memory card that I've got lying around instead ? Equally if it's then possible to download them safely later on ?

A:Possible to save to a memory card rather than a memory stick ?

Short answer is Yes. An SD card is very similar to a flash drive as far as the technology goes and can be used like an SD card for storing files. I would format it Fat32. And you can download (Copy) the files from the card at any time.

What is the difference between a USB flash drive and a USB pen drive? There is a difference in price but that is all i can work out at the moment. Please can you help.

A:Memory stick

Hi helenb102,

Welcome to TSG!

According to when I searched for usb flash drive, a USB flash drive and USB pen drive are one and the same:
Known By Many Names

Also known as a "flash drive," "pen drive," "keychain drive," "key drive," "USB key," "USB stick" and "memory key," ...

I already knew that, but wondered if indeed there actually was some difference - so, none!

They are sold with or without bootable software (Windows) depending on mfg. I have bought 512kb, 2GB and 4GB USB flash drives. SanDisk cruzer (512KB, 2GB, 4GB) comes with Windows compatible FAT16 (I think) bootable software. On a PNY Technologies (2GB) USB flash drive which does not come with any bootable software, I partitioned and laid in a compatible file system for Linux Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon which has the property (now) of persistent storage, so that any changes I install to it are not lost after I boot it up and install the changes - i.e. between reboots from it onto my desktop from it.

Long story short: My new computer that had Vista on it originally crashed two weeks ago. I downgraded to XP. Now the internet doesn't work. My Network Drivers are missing.

So I hooked up my old computer (Windows ME) I upgraded it to XP. I got onto the HP website and the tech sent me 3 drivers: chipset, sound, and modem.

The CD burner on the old computer won't work. So I couldn't burn the drivers onto a cd and transfer.

I bought a USB Memory Stick. The computer recognized it, installed it. But it's not under 'My Computer'.

I went into Admin Tools and tried adding a new drive. It wouldn't work/I may not have done it right.

I have a USB1.1 memory stick that is a few years old. It has worked faithfully up until now. Yesterday when I insert it into a USB port, the computer (XP) does not detect it. There is no error message, there is no yellow question mark in the Device Manager. It does not appear on in My Computer, it doesn't work on another computer (Vista) and I have another USB Memory stick that does work with the computer so I am guessing that there is problem with the older stick.

Is there anything I can do to access the data on the stick and back it up before I replace it?

Will this tactic work?
If I transfer all my harddrive to a memory stick (the size is 4 Gigabytes) can I then plug it into a PC with Norton installed and scan it that way?
I ask because I cannot scan my pc at the moment because a virus(or a trojan or I know not what) is effectively blocking my internet access .
Again would Norton Antivirus be up to the task as someone (my ISP) said they thought it might be a trojan to be redirecting my outgoing traffic in the way that it is.

Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

Now, all of sudden, it is telling me when I put the stick in, and try to open to insert the memory stick, the memory stick is blinking, like it is being read. I checked the profile, the auto play said music, I tried to change to photo would not change, the auto play thing keeps appearing like it is playing something. I am so frustrated. Get this where I bought this computer, their tech support is off until 1/5. Can you imagine what their phones will be like then, with all of Xmas stuff they probably sold. Does anyone have any ideas. A:Memory stick

Memory modules, if the correct size, and type, should work out of the box.
Be sure you have the right stuff by going to and entering your computer brand and model, or the motherboard brand and model... for a list of what should work.
Then if you install it correctly so that it is firmly seated, the motherboard BIOS and Windows should detect it and accept it automatically.

Just a casual question. I have three memory sticks, equal in capacity, which are used for transmitting files across to other computer and daily backups. The computer has a hard disk with no partitions and the usual CD/DVD-ROM drive.

Why, when I insert two of the memory sticks are they each recognised as the E drive, whilst the third memory stick is always recognised as the F drive. The memory sticks are used one at a time.

You can either take the memory back to where you bought it or RMA it directly to Kingston. You can find the RMA form on under support.

A USB pen-drive, if working properly, should register with Windows almost instantaneously with no discernable delay in response. The fact that yours is taking a while to respond is a sure sign that it's faulty and needs replacing. It's mainly for this reason that you should never use a pen-drive for backup purposes - they are too volatile & unreliable.

Intall each usb device to a different usb port. Then always use that usb port for that particular device.

What are we doing wrong please?

A:Memory stick storage

(I'm assuming that the 'memory stick' is not write-protected, because the available space was decreased after "the event")

Alright, I think I might've got the answer. But by 'memory stick' I presume that you mean either a USB-based flashdrive/thumbdrive, or a memory card like a Compact Flash card or a SD-card.

Because: my explanation will alter drastically if you mean that you actually tried storing a non-volatile piece of software on a volatile piece of hardware like a DDR RAM memory stick via 'pin modulation' etc.

Three explanations then, I'm assuming that you are using Windows. The explanation will be the same for most Macintosh and most Linux OS's (but not all).
"1." if you meant USB-drive instead of memory stick.
"2." if you meant memory card instead of memory stick.
"3." if you meant 'memory stick' as in RAM, Then my hat is off to you, sir.

1. You inserted a USB-drive, stored a file on it, removed it. Now the file is gone, but the space is occupied. How come?

Easy explanation:
Are you familiar with "Safely Remove Hardware"?

IF NOT: When you remove a USB-drive from the computer, you must (oftenmost) perform a 'Safe Removal'. If you look downright on your system tray when a USB-drive is inserted, you'll see a green arrow thingy called 'Safe Hardware Removal' or something like that. You will have to choose your USB-drive from a dropdown list when right-clicking this icon, in order to insure that your data stays on the disk when you remove it. A message will then pop up saying "It is now safe to remove your drive".

Take a look at this!

Are you sure you performed it? If you did, keep me posted!

More advanced explanation:
You see, when You wrote a file onto the memory, the cells inside the memory were charged in accordance with the data which you stored on the device. But keep in mind that the "name" of the file (more like the 'identity' of the file) is stored in a completely different way (in a volatile, non-permanent way) in order to enable a "possible" write of multiple files onto the device.

IF the device is removed without performing this "Safe Removal", then the data will stay intact, but the file's ID will end up as de-charged anti-neutrinos somewhere on the other side of cosmos. In other words: the PC will be un-able to identify the file, even though the data is there, and even though the data is occupying the total storage available.

You have now created something simply (and inaccurately) referred to as "Mémoire mort". Un-usable storage space, until reanimated using third-party software. Your file is there, but un-identifiable.

2. You inserted a memory card, stored a file on it, removed it. Now the file is gone, but the space is occupied. How come?

If you used an older OS like XP, this is something that happens from time to time as XP was not really designed with memory cards in mind (was it a kernel not being open enough? Never mind...).

If you simply removed the memory card as expected, but still cannot see the file, then you have not only lost the file's identity, but also the entire file.

Look at the advanced explanation on "1." -- but now instead of just the ID being stored in a completely different way, the entire file is stored in a volatile state. Without the 'Safe Removal' (which lacked serious support in XP for memory cards), the entire file is not written onto the memory chip/card. It also dissipates into anti-neutrinos unless I'm mistaken. BUT: the storage space which the file was used to 'inhabit', was 'reserved' for the file, and thus it was awaiting the file which didn't came = "Mé... Read more

A:can i use a USB stick for dedicated memory

I'm not an expert in anything.

I don't believe it's possible to designate which memory modules a program should use. It would be kinda like telling a program, "OK, go ahead and use the memory in slots A and C but totally disregard the memory that's available in slots B and D."

It is possible to use a USB flash drive or memory card to speed up a computer. It's called ReadyBoost. But even that has limitations based on how much RAM is already installed in the computer.

Can I load from my home computer a dvd onto a memory stick or my note book computer.

A:looading memory stick

Of course, a bit of a wierd and random question so that's pretty much all I can think of to say.

I have a Philips USB memory Stick and a Transcend USB Memory stick, problem is the transfer rates.
Both sticks will only transfer at a rate of 5.6 MB/s. I have a new USB card installed which is 2.0and the memory sticks are 2.0. Anyone know why the rates are so slow, is it the usbs or the the actual memory sticks?

A:Philips USB memory Stick

It seems like you're getting a reasonable speed. Here are some speeds for a few Philips USB sticks. Are you getting better rates on other computers?

Format a memory stick, like the kind a digital camera uses.

I inserted my wife's memory stick into my Laptop and AVG picked up numerous "backdoor" viruses on her images which I then attempted to remove. Now I am in serious trouble The 4GB stick shows 1,5GB free and 2,5GB used, but when opening the stick the file is empty. What is happening? Can I retrieve her images? Guys, please help....she is MAD with me.

Hi guys

In older versions of Windows one had to ask nicely before unplugging a memory stick.

This doesn't seem to be the case with W7 - or has the function moved? Currently I'm simply unplugging it when I've finished but I thought I'd best find out if I'm not doing it properly!

A:Removing a USB memory stick

I still have the "safely remove hardware and eject media" icon and use it when I remove USB memory sticks.

You may just be lucky. At some point there can be a corruption in the Windows status for the drive and at that point you will have uninstall it in the Device manager, restart Windows and start over to get it working.

About weeks ago I purchased a Pico A GB USB stick to hold docs and gif jpg files that I am actively needing at both home and work I have used it for about a month with no problems Memory problems Stick at work i have an Acer computer Memory Stick problems running XP Pro at home i have a Powerbook G with Mac Memory Stick problems OS Unfortunately my intent to back up Memory Stick problems all my files every week had gone by the wayside about weeks ago In the meantime I have had several important projects brewing Long story short yesterday I turned on the laptop at home and suddenly the stick is coming up as quot NoName quot and recognizing no files on it at all The last time I actively used the stick was at home on Tuesday just two days previously The stick itself looks ok to me nothing wrong or different about the gold connecting strips I tried contacting Super Talent the company that makes the device and was told that data recovery was not available from them Some of the things on there were unfortunately irreplaceable Is there any option that I have to try to recover the files you had better believe that i am going to a NIGHTLY backup regime after this nbsp

A:Memory Stick problems

When you back up nightly, do not backup to a thumb drive. Back up to an external hard drive, or at least that is my advice. I would use something like Acronis to have it auto back up your stuff you can rest worry free. On the mac, if you ever decide to upgrade to Leopard, Time Machine works amazingly well. I have had to use it and it is amazing.
You can try something like that to get your data back. I would buy the usb Cruzer Titanium beacuse you said that you are using it a lot and carrying it around, the Cruzer is as tough as nails!

I just had a USB stick fail to be recognized. The Windows message balloon says it has malfunctioned. It has no moving parts and so I reason that the RAM is failing ? I'm no electrical engineer. Can somebody explain ?
