So I have a a small home network setup for many years two desktops and two laptops recently added a tablet often I map drives have an external hard drive connected to USB port on router to share files all the devices can copy open and share files Life was great Then I got a new laptop with Windows and upgraded Having Issues Windows with 8 one of my desktops to Win my wife wanted it Since then can still connect all devices to internet no issues The problems are neither of my Win machines consistently will see other machines on network or external HD By consistent I d estimate maybe out of times it will on rare occasions connect but not the other times I have noticed a pattern at least now a half dozen or more times on the lap top if I m connected on an Ethernet connection I can see other devices but as soon as I unplug no longer can connect to the other devices I haven t tried this on desktop as no Ethernet port close by to test I ve tried a number of Having Issues with Windows 8 things verified Network Discovery is turned on I also can Having Issues with Windows 8 t connect from my Win desktop to either of the Win machines On the Win machines under network the name of the device shows up but when I try and connect I get error stating machine can t be found check spelling but yet the name it can t find is listed right there Or will get error stating quot The network path was not found quot From what I ve read am thinking problem may be related to not finding host name but not sure how to test or repair or determine for certain what is the issue Any suggestions nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Having Issues with Windows 8

I've notice that with the two systems the run 8. With 7 you don't have this issue. Are you running Homegroup with Workgroup. If you don't need Homegroup disable that feature. Try to use Workgroup. But I must tell you Microsoft has changed the TCP/IP features in 8 where 7 doesn't have certain of the new protocols. I've added that with my JASPER script which I've been testing. That adds one aspect of the missing puzzle. But with 8 there is still some network features that will not be seen by 7 shares or DLNA that works with 7 but won't function with 8.

Hopefully the Windows 8.1 patch or update will fix these issues.

Hi all Going to try and make this brief quot try quot being the operative word here I have a Gateway PC running Windows Ultimate bit gigs of ram but obviously not all useable yet Dual core processor Nvidia GT graphics Card Corsair watt PSU HT Omega Striker Souncard Kaspersky Internet Security Nvidia driver latest Basically have done a lot of upgrades on this PC with the exception of the motherboard and CPU Two days ago I noticed when I log into my PC it will boot up however shortly after programs will begin to stop responding Sometimes the PC will boot into a black screen other times I get to the desktop and the taskbar clocks and just does not work then other times as stated will boot up work for about to minutes until explorer stops responding and ultimately everything else I try to use Here are some behaviors I noticed Is probably not hardware related as safe mode does work as should no matter how long I use it Could not install programs - when trying would freeze or fail in reg desktop One weird thing Windows desktop issues other 32bit 7 with issues Ultimate freezing/ I noticed is that the hard drive activity LED will start doing a repetitive pattern when the system begins to freeze it will light up for to seconds to show activity then blink on and off then light again for the same time then blink same exact pattern over and over again all the while you can hear the drive making the same noise almost as thought its quot skipping quot again safe mode does work fine though Originally this started with a blue screen that showed a Logitech webcam file that caused it I uninstalled the Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit issues with desktop freezing/ other issues software altogether and reinstalled and seemed to have fixed the BSOD issue That's it for behaviors that I have noticed so far Here is what I have tried with no success Start up repair SCNDSK F SCNDSK R SFC SCANNOW MSCONFIG - disabled all non microsoft startup items AND services I am above the average user as I do some repairs myself but this has me baffled I'm at a loss and really do not want to format Any ideas on what else I can try or mayve have missed Anyone else come across something similar Any help would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks

A:Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit issues with desktop freezing/ other issues

Try working through these troubleshooting steps to utilize the logs and System Resources to find clues, clear all hardware.

There are other tools listed which may help working up to a Repair Install as a last resort before Reinstalling Windows 7 to get a perfect clean baseline reinstall which should solve anything not hardware related.

I reformatted my computer because after installing service pack 1 and other updates from Feb 14th my computer has been having issues getting a dhcp from my router. I have a windows 7 home premium 32 bit laptop that works just fine. I also have a ubuntu machine that pulls an address from this router and an xbox 360. From what I've read other places online it appears this is a bug with dhcp that appears some time around windows 7 service pack 1 x64. Is this update the one causing issues with the dhcp problems I'm having? Should I uninstall service pack 1 or reformat and not let windows install this? I'm a little confused as to what this problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A:Dhcp issues and network connectivity issues since windows 7 x64 sp1

I've never heard of a service pack creating a DHCP problem.

You might want to try resetting your router either by pushing in the reset button "hold in for ten seconds" or you can reset the router from the router's service page or unplug the router for ten minutes then plug it back in again.

Just because other machines can pick up the DHCP address doesn't mean it's working correctly for all machines. Routers can limp along sometimes but the functionality becomes erratic until you reset them.

Or you can try using the ipconfig commands, such as the ones outlined in the link below.
ipconfig - Windows Command Line Utility

It appears your Mouse Setting have Click Lock enabled...

go into control panel > mouse setting > and verify click lock is off..

Also a lot of times you can enable click-lock by clicking the center wheel of the mouse

A:Rolled Back Windows 10 to Windows 7 - Now big Windows Live Mail issues

If the accounts are IMAP you can recreate them in the mail client and it will download all the mail afresh from the remote server. But if they are POP you have to work with the local database. Even if they are IMAP I would make a backup of the existing database.

I have Precision T3500 that came with NVidia Quadro FX580 display adapter.
I had issues installing the latest NVidia driver for this card on Windows 7 (the screen would just go blank) but it was working fine with the three years old driver recommended by Dell, and now I am trying to upgrade to Windows 10 and it would automatically install the latest Windows 10 driver for this card that would freeze the system after reboot...
On Dell's support web site it says that Windows 10 is not supported on my system.
Any suggestions how to make Windows 10 work on Precision T3500 with NVidia Quadro FX580?

A:Precision T3500 with NVidia Quadro FX580 issues on Windows 7 and Windows 10 upgrade

The FX580 is a DX9  WDDM 1.0 card.
I have 2006 and 2005 E510's that have been upgraded with Pentium D 915 and 4 gigs of ram and they work Fine with windows 10 once you get at least a Geforce 610  or Radeon HD 5450 or better DX11 wddm 1.3 card.
The FX580 is an ancient vacccum tube card that is not suitable for AERO or Windows 7,8,10
It works with the original WDDM 1.0 Vista Drivers but it will not have WDDM 1.1 or 1.3 drivers.

Hello everyone like the topic stated I'm having varying issues loging into my computer Yesterday everything was working just fine with my machine other than some pending updates and the fact that I hadn't shut it down in a while Anyway 7 windows (Possibly to Log Multiple issues related Windows failed in updates) when I left the house Multiple Windows 7 Log in issues (Possibly related to failed windows updates) to go on a bike ride I took the chance to install my pending updates and shutdown my computer When I got back from my bike ride I turned my computer on and left the room to get a cold drink but when I made it back to my computer it had the startup repair running as if it had an issue booting The startup repair completed its routine and returned by saying that it failed to fix the problem it found so I hit finish and restarted my PC This time I watched the computer boot get to the windows is loading screen and sit there for about minutes before it suddenly cut to a restart Knowing that something was clearly amiss I decided to try to load into safe mode so I could see if I could load windows at all which unfortunately failed in a similar way to how the standard boot did Sht what now At this point I'm thinking that he only thing that had changed recently were the windows updates so I decided to load up into startup repair and go to a previous restore point Loading that restore point failed and it Multiple Windows 7 Log in issues (Possibly related to failed windows updates) said that nothing was changed after rebooting the problem remained A little later my older brother told me that the problem that I was having was very similar to a problem that my dad had with his PC that he fixed by using Bootrec exe with fixboot and fixmbr through the command prompt In went the Windows install disk I let it try to complete a startup repair which to no surprise failed and after Multiple Windows 7 Log in issues (Possibly related to failed windows updates) a restart to see if I somehow got lucky I went to go try the bootrec commands Both commands succeeded so I restarted and magic happened I made it to the welcome screen Yess It just hung there after that though the good thing was that after that I had full access to all forms of safe mode so I figured that I would try to system restore again Unfortunately for me all of my previous restore points had suddenly gotten cancer and died inuding the one that I used earlier that was just before the windows updates that failed With system restore now forever out of the window I decided that I would use safemode with networking to look up my issue and after getting a few different suggestions I tried sfc scannow from command prompt which came back with no problems reported Then I tried a clean boot with no startup apps or non Microsoft services running which helped by getting me to the log in screen if I rember correctly I even tried using default bios settings which didn't seem to help At one point I actually made it back into a clean boot of windows after running startup repair Thinking that it was a normal boot I restarted with default boot options enabled and lost the ability to log into anything but safe mode again Finally I found a post where someone had changed their system permissions so they could update a dll and had run into a similar issue to what I was experiencing so I decided to try their solution and tried reset the permissions for the system by using this command cacls c windows system e t c g system f administrators r at the end instead then I restarted a clean boot This time when I restarted I was able to log in again it just took a few minutes to get from one log in step to the next but regardless progress seems to have been made After that I tried to do a standard boot but unsurprisingly failed so I went back to a clean boot with my AVG services and startups activated so I could complete a virus scan which just finished and caught a js redir virus and two adware generic adpn fi... A:Windows 7 - Genuine Issues Leading to Unable to Update/Install Windows

So, you`ve reinstalled windows 7, you`ve downloaded the network drivers from dell.com and installed them, and you`ve tried to activate windows with the key on your COA or the key from the system builder pack, and it will not activate ?

And you`re saying you went to BestBuy and they had a Windows 7 builder pack ????????

Amazing How much was that, if you don`t mind me asking ?

If you used that license it should say OEM System Builder, but yours says OEM SLP which means System Locked Pre-Installation. Are you sure you`re trying the right key from BestBuy ?

I saw that. Its interesting, as the privacy agreement for Win10 allows the data mining but what about Win7? Pretty sure it didn't say it, will have to hunt it down, and if it doesn't, are they in breach of the agreement?

Anyhoo, will be making sure all I know have this hidden

Hi there i am having some issues with an upgrade on Windows NT to Windows Stamdard with Active Directory The environment consisted of one Windows NT PDC and four Windows NT BDCs As per the Microsoft recommended method to upgrade this environment to Windows I performed the following Build a new Windows NT server with SP a as a BDC on the production network Promoted this newly built BDC to a PDC whilst on the production network Ensured that the old PDC had been demoted to a BDC and that all servers were happy replicating with the newly built PDC I then removed the newly built PDC Issues - Windows Replication (Event 2003 5719) Windows AD ID NT and from the network upgraded it to Windows Standard with Active Directory Replication Issues - Windows NT and Windows 2003 AD (Event ID 5719) turned on the registry setting to make this Windows a NT emulator and connected it back to the production network I then checked server manager on the BDCs and confirmed that they could quot see quot their DC again and the DC could see the PDCs I left the server to run overnight then the next day I returned to it and ran the command quot Nltest exe bdc query lt domain name gt to show the connection and replication status of the BDCs This is where I ran into problems Two out of the five BDCs were quite happy showing a connection status of SUCCESS and were replicating happily between themselves and the Replication Issues - Windows NT and Windows 2003 AD (Event ID 5719) DC according to the Event Viewers on both the DC and the two BDCs These two servers were correctly displaying the status code x NERR SUCCES However the other three were reporting the following error message on the server SYNCSTATE REPLICATION NEEDED CONNECTION STATE X F ERROR NO LOGON SERVERS Therefore two our of the five BDCs were replicating with the new DC correctly When I logged on to any three of the Windows NT BDCs that were not working and tried to run Server Manager it reported that the domain could not be found as there was no Primary Domain Controller in Event viewer there are multiple occuranaces of the event ID as an error and as a warning I am figuring that the problem is on the NT server themselves in that they are not correctly seeing the new DC as their quot PDC quot or the connection is timing out The odd thing is two of them are working which is a good thing as it indicates that my server is probably okay I have been told that I may need to run an NLTEST on the NT servers in order for them to link to the new DC rather than the old PDC Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks and regards Pete nbsp

Windows Media Player I will start with, I used to have no problems with this application, since yesterday night I have been having the issue of having audio files on my desktop I right click them (.mp3 files) and goto add to windows media player list, it then hangs for about 10 seconds and pops up with an error message has the file location and the following message "Server execution failed" also I cant open windows media player without right clicking and going to run as admin, before I could do both actions without a problem.

Moving onto Windows Live Messenger, this issue also started around the same time as the windows media player one, so I believe them to be effected by the same fault.
The program loads up fine but when i sign in it just automatically signs me out and takes me back to the login page.

Like i say both applications worked prior.

The only edits I have done that could explain this, would be deletion of registry keys, if this could cause it let me know and I will try a system restore.

Doesn't make sense to me. Try to disable UAC following these instructions. If that doesn't help with Windows Media Player, then it is probably a malware related issue. After attempting your restore, if the issue persists, you may need to re-install Windows 7 and follow everything you had done step by step to see what may have caused it.

If you can't find a cause it is most likely malware.

I have an old Windows 7 which can now be updated to Windows 10. However, when I updated my Win 8.1 to 10 I had issues with Easeus Partition Manager changing partition ids and other problems. WindowsEight Forums were fabulous in info with rectifying the problems in simple non tech language.

So, before I attempt to update from Windows 7, could someone please clarify the following (or would it be the same as Windows 8)? One other slight complication is that my windows 7 is the Spanish version.

Particion 8 Logico 3833 MB

A:Dual boot Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 Pro partition issues

Why would you leave out the drive map? Please follow the instructions given here for posting screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image

You can have 4 Primary partitions but would need to convert one to Logical to add any more.

The Windows 8 partition is way too small so I'd use Partition Wizard CD to borrow some space from C to add it to: How to extend partition easily with partition magic ? Partition Wizard video help.

You're also missing the System Flag which apparently should be on the partition marked Active. Run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to see if it appears. This proves that the System is bootable and marks the partition booting the OS which will also be dual booting.

If after these changes the Win8 installation media doesn't see the target partition please post back a picture of what it does see. Where did you get Windows 8 media? How is it burned?

Hi there This could be a Windows or a Win XP issue I'm Windows 7 Home/Windows XP Networking: Sharing issues. not sure which I have two desktops One running Windows Home Premium the other running Windows XP Home edition I've got them networked by wireless dlink router although using Windows XP Home/Windows 7 Networking: Sharing issues. cables running off the ethernet ports and they are obviously seeing each other as I can browse the entire C on the Win XP machine from the Windows machine no problem I can also receive the internet on both machines The problem lies in trying to view any folder on the Win machine from the Win XP machine In Win XP I browse to Entire Network Microsoft Windows Networks sorry I'm going off memory here as I'm away from the computers in question and finally Workgroup After I click the plus symbol on Workgroup I then get the two computers listed Upon double clicking the Windows computer I get the big bad quot lt COMPUTER NAME gt is not accessible quot etc error I've read all manner of things relating to disabling simple file sharing but this seems to only apply to Windows XP Pro I've also read about setting permissions for folders but I can't even reach the desired folder so as to right click it and set the permissions I'm stuck at not being able to double click the Win computer name One thing I've thought of however is that the two computers do not have a static ip address set I was thinking of maybe setting the Win machine to and the XP machine to As it is I'm not sure of setting IP addresses and subnets etc except on a straight crossover cable set up In this case I have the computers networked via a Dlink router The moment I put a static ip address in the XP machine's TCP IP settings under Local Area the net connection is knocked out As far as I'm aware the Dlink's ip for accessing it's web page is Can someone tell me if I'm on the right track here or can I have the TCP IP settings as quot automatically obtain quot and find some other method to get the XP machine to see 's share folders Regards JazzCat

A:Windows XP Home/Windows 7 Networking: Sharing issues.

The usual fix for the can't access Win 7 machine from XP is listed below.

On the Windows 7 machine navigate to the following registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
create or modify 32-bit DWORD: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
set the value to: 1

You don't need to use static IP's to fix this type of problem, use DHCP, it works fine for me in every situation.

Also check the time/date settings on both machines and make sure they are in sync. This will also cause problems with sharing.

As for permissions you will need to add Everyone to the list on the XP machine. Windows 7 has a similar feature but Everyone is already on the list you just need to go through the steps.

Perform the following steps on the XP machine, but because you are already sharing the entire C: drive you must have already done this step. It's not recommended to share the entire drive because it's considered to be a security risk.

Yes I did it. I bought a new laptop from Best Buy and had the W7 Disk and it worked. The only problem I am having is in Device Manager, "Unknown device" The USB Ports? The right USB port works well, but the 2 on the left do not work. I tried everything. Does anyone know how I can get them to work to use my flash drive Thanks.

So I got a new Lenono G50-70 for Christmas, pretty basic laptop and I thought it would be simple to use, and it is bar connecting to the wifi

Every time I restart my laptop I have the issue of not being able to connect to the Internet, there's a lot of electronics around the house using wifi and none of these are affected so it must be the laptop surely? At the moment I have to go downstairs and reset the router every time I want to use my laptop, is there any way I can just bypass that step like a normal laptop does?

Thanks

I had problems installing the latest Windows updates The Update Scan froze intermittently So I only partially updated I for after latest issues Windows 8 Updates Windows System decided to do a system restore And System issues after latest Windows Updates for Windows 8 then started with the updates again One at a time Restarting after each one etc Eventually I thought they were all installed successfully However this morning every time the laptop is idle Windows Module Installer kicks in and really works the system and doesn't stop until i start using the laptop again It's using cpu and working my fan hard This issue happened once before after a Windows Update couple of months ago i believe there was one particular update causing the problem and I managed to remove it and didn't install it again I've had a look at all the updates to make sure they were installed successfully One stands out As the Update Scan Froze part way through aI had to do a system restore and start again Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB FAILED Error details Code F F Update type Important I decided to uninstall the 'successfully' installed KB as I wondered if it was the glitch causing my issues These things may not be related to the issues I'm having But I thought I'd mention them anyway And advice would be welcome Thanks

A:System issues after latest Windows Updates for Windows 8

Try downloading and installing that KB2871389 manually:

Update is available that prepares Windows 8 and Windows RT-based computers for the update to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT

Since the description indicates it is intended to prep your computer for 8.1, I can see where it could run for some time after the initial install. FYI, I have also noticed this behavior anytime Windows Update installs a .net framework update. Good luck.

I have been receiving messages that Windows updater is not working. I tried the Windows fix-it. It was able to repair some things but not all. I received error message 0x80070057. Please advise on how to clear error and update system.

A:Windows update issues and windows error 0x80070057

First of all - welcome to BC !

It is always a help if, when you have a problem like this, you give the make and model of the computer involved or, if you built it yourself, the main component specs, and which flavour of operating system you are using.

If this problem is of fairly recent origin, the simplest cure is to try a Restore, to take you back to a point in time before the problem started. If you have never done this before :-

Click on 'Start - Control panel - Recovery'. This will open the System restore dialogue. You will see a large button 'Open system restore', click on this. After a few seconds you will see a box with a 'Next' button, click this, and you will come to the screen where you choose which restore point you wish to use. Very often you will only be offered one choice, the latest restore point. If this predates the start of your problem, select it and click 'Next' and continue with the restore process.

If this restore point does NOT precede the time the problem started, there is a button on the left hand side to show more restore points. Click on this and choose an appropriate one, then click 'Next' and carry on as before. Once the restore starts it will take a few minutes, and when it has finished it may ask you to re-boot. Re-boot anyway.

While this process does not affect your data, only the operating system, it is always a good idea to back up your data before doing any operation like this. Once it is completed, you will need to re-install any updates from the date you restored to to present. It is a good idea to install these one at a time, then if it turns out that one of them created the problem, you know which it is and can uninstall it.

I've tried upgrading to Windows twice with partition recovery upgrade/Windows 8 Windows 10 issues this notebook st attempt Windows 10 upgrade/Windows 8 recovery partition issues It tried downloading to D Recovery partition failed upgrade luckily I made a Windows recovery USB including the entire recovery drive before I ran the upgrade after several steps and issues I restored to nd attempt Again it tried to download and install in D partition and failed second recovery was quite a bit more difficult than the first My question is would removing the recovery partition completely before running the upgrade solve this and if so would the Windows recovery USB still be enough to recover if it fails even after completely removing recovery partition If upgrade is successful would I be able to make a Windows recovery USB then recreate a recovery partition then transfer the recovery USB to that partition I'm doing this for someone else that isn't technically proficient if it were mine I'd be doing this differently that is if I would actually ever own this little thing My goal here is to get them upgraded then make as close to certain as I can that they can not only recover but that they won't have to worry about keeping track of a DVD or USB recovery media if all else fails and can recover while keeping the valid product key without them ever needing to buy find use or type a product key

A:Windows 10 upgrade/Windows 8 recovery partition issues

I would remove the Recovery partition and try the upgrade. As to the question of it working after removing the partition that may depend on which type of Recovery USB you created. There is Windows 8's version-which I've never used & am not sure whether it works without the partition. Then there is> HP Recovery Media- which works with/with out the partition and even on a new hdd. Windows 10 does also have an option to create a usb recovery drive but I don't think it will transfer to a recovery partition- at least not a bootable one. Windows 10 has the Reset this PC option that uses files stored on hdd.You must also consider that if the hdd failed it would take the recovery/reset partition with it so having a stand alone installer- either usb or dvd is always a good choice- to install on a replacement hdd.Of course many of use use Imaging to take a full snapshot of the Windows install to easily restore either to original or new hdd. Imaging is also covered in the link above.

i reverted from windows 10 back to windows 7 after only a few hours on windows 10 when none of my programs would work properly. once windows 7 reloaded i can no longer connect to the internet via wired connection. i tried plugging in a wireless adapter and it will connect but says limited availability and does not allow me to access the internet. it does say there are issues with the network drivers. i tried to download them via my laptop to an external driver updates and port over them over but still nothing. i am able to access my internet via my cell phone, and laptop but not with my desktop.

So ever since I got a new computer with windows 8 I've had issues networking with my other windows 7 machine. I eventually resolved the issues with my other machine by disabling the firewall on the windows 7 machine (it's a media server so there was no need to have it online).

But now all of a sudden I'm having issues again and can't figure out why. I can see my other machine in my network listing and sometimes I can connect to it and sometimes I can't. Diagnostics just say "everything is set up right but we can't communicate with the machine". And when I can connect to it it keeps cutting out and videos will end abruptly and it's impossible to transfer anything without it getting disruped halfway through.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Constant issues with Windows 8 networking to Windows 7

You shouldn't need to disable any firewalls for basic networking between these Op systems.

I'd suspect that a third party anti virus software is involved.

Have you tried setting up a Homegroup between these machines?

Is this a single router network or do you have another access point in the network?

Wasn't sure whether I should put this in WIndows discussion or WIndows but considering it's going from eight to seven it would be more relevant to go into seven especially since I think I've cleared eight almost entirely from the machine but I'll explain that later Also excuse my English right now I've been awake for well longer than twenty four hours so my mind is a bit scrambled and I'd just like the peace of mind of having this up here before I head off to sleep Well anyways it feels a bit impolite to show up with nothing but a problem to present so I'll make it a point to at least present myself I've found this site many a times when dealing with viruses and other such problems through Google search results I had noted what a great site this was from the generally friendly people to the 8 Major issues Downgrade 7 Windows Windows ---> fact that anytime I would find a thread here pertaining to my problem it would either be solved here or I would be pushed pretty drastically in Windows 8 ---> Windows 7 Downgrade Major issues the right direction This was always my go to place if I ever really had a problem I needed worked out that I couldn't figure out myself As you've already guessed that's why I'm here in the first place In short I messed up and I'm thinking it's pretty bad So to sum it up shortly my friend had asked me to revert his new Windows laptop back to the Windows interface me knowing more than him enough for him to trust me with it However I'm no IT I'm just someone who happens to have picked up knowlege over the years from dealing with my own problems and such It didn't seem to be an IT job so I felt it was within my league First thing I do is fish out the WIndows installation disk After fiddling with Windows for a while trying to figure out how to boot from disk is it just me or did Windows overcomplicate that way too much I managed to get to the boot order settings However the CD drive was entirely gone from there I assumed it was something involving the new laptop and not having the proper drivers installed or something so I followed through a guide and got it all onto a flash drive so I could boot from that instead of dealing with the phantom CD drive this laptop seemed to have One step done I felt I was heading in the right direction However things began taking a turn for the worst when for whatever reason it wouldn't load from the flash drive It was recognized at least and there was a noticable pause at start up where the light on the flash drive began blinking frantically as if it's trying to do something but then it just skipped over to the regular Windows log on screen I tried just about all the basic troublshooting steps under the sun here different USB slots formatting the drive and cleanly setting it up to be a boot disk a few more times changing the boot order again etc I started poking around online for solutions and well my fatigued brain is having a bit of a hard time remembering if I did anything other than this but if I did I know I wasn't just poking at random switches and such in the BIOS even I realize the danger of that and all and if there was something other than this I know that it was only one other thing which I suspect is what actually made it work Now for the big delivery MISTAKE There was a setting somewhere in there that I changed I'm guessing I misread what was said online but I changed it from UEFI to CSM Saved changes and restarted Booted fine from the flash drive and I was pretty happy until the partitions read Windows cannot be installed to this disk The selected disk is of the GPT partition style Now here's where I started to panic So much so I engagued into big mistake I deleted the partition containing Windows and tried to make a new one for That would work right It would build the next partition to fit what Windows needs to install right Not the case still remained with the GPT error on the newly made partition So here I am with a Windows that refuses to install and w... A:Windows 8 ---> Windows 7 Downgrade Major issues

Just an update here.

I managed to figure out getting into the BIOS and changingit back to UEFI from CSM. I have to say, Toshiba has to work on this, I did the exact same thing close to twenty times before it worked (that is holding F12). So problem one fixed, but the next problem is that I'm stuck now in a bootloop since it can't repair itself and I deleted the partition Windows 8 was on. The particularly odd part about this though is even through the BIOS (which still takes several tries to get into) it won't load the Windows 7 Setup from the Flash drive or the CD.

Just a progress check, in case anyone knows what to do about this, I still feel silly because it was just F12, but it did take WAY too long for it to work I must say.

Hello, I would like to dual boot windows xp and windows 7. I currently am using windows 7 but I would like to install windows xp alongside it on a separate partition. I created the partition in disk management in windows seven and I booted from my xp disk and it goes through the beginning processes and then says entering windows setup and then goes to a blue screen saying that my computer needs to be shutdown. Please help me bypass this or something. Thanks.

A:Dual-Booting Windows XP and Windows 7 Issues

You may have installed Windows Seven in the AHCI mode.
XP will blue screen because the AHCI drivers were not installed for XP.

Personally, I hate windows 7. I think its crap and that windows xp is more friendly to me. I know that windows 7 is more stable than windows xp, but I don't care, I just wan't windows xp. So, I put the disk in my computer and I clicked install windows xp, but than this thing popped up.

It syas that windows 7 is incompatible with windows xp. How can I make windows 7 compatible with windows xp so that I can install and use the windows xp OS instead of windows 7?

A:Installing Windows XP on Windows 7 - Incompatibility Issues

You cannot start installation of an older version from desktop of a newer version. You need to boot your PC with XP install media.

I have Internet on the Vista computer (ICS sharing from XP computer)

Ok so hi everyone again and sorry for this but yes I just downgraded from Windows and so far I'm not very happy for a few reasons more like problems downgrading issues after 7 8 Windows to from Windows Compatibility that I really need help with So Compatibility issues after downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 7 before I go into exposing my problem I'd just like to give some background so you know where I'm at Instead of doing a so called downgrade and going through all that process of contacting the manufacturer and asking for the software required I decided to go full-on cowboy and take my chances doing a clean install of Windows So I booted from the disc and got some problems which I later fixed with the whole partitions thing I ended up deleting all of them and having only Compatibility issues after downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 7 partition filled with unalloc'ed space to which Compatibility issues after downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 7 I installed Windows x BTW after that I got everything going and I once again ran into some issues this time I had no Internet Connection either wireless or wired Long story short I went to Samsung's site for a product I believe is equal or at least very simillar to mine my laptop is a Samsung NP -V C-S PT and I downloaded the x drivers for the wireless LAN got that working and downloaded the both x and x drivers for the LAN device also got that working I was happy But then More issues I noticed I wasn't being able to switch to the aero graphics configuration which made no sense considering the computer has a fairly good graphics setup and once more I got myself to the device manager to see what's going on Everything seems fine but this is an explanation that needs a few screenshots to be clear First of all here's my config most of it what I believe actually matters Processor i - QM GHz Max GHz Mb Memory GB x GB DDR MHz x SODIMM mem ria m xima GB Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD M Gb DDR HDD GB S-ATA II rpm Drives DVD RW Super Multi Dual Layer S-ATA Now here's my screenshot of the device manager which is pointing out some problems that I can't seem to fix with USB stuff and an other thing which honestly isn't of the utmost importance oh well And here's the message I get got after going to ATI's se and trying to download the appropriate drivers for my system and graphics card this one's really quite weird Since not a lot of people know portuguese I'll translate it quot It is not possible to download AMD Catalyst Mobility due to an hardware software incompatibility in your computer there is no support for your graphical adapter Contact your notebook supplier for an update for your graphical not shure if this is graphical or display adapter quot So What bothers me most is that I had none of these problems with windows I had some compatibility issues but nothing this bad Now I can't control how the power is consumed change any graphical properties It is really being troublesome and it was supposed to be for the better I'm asking anyone out there who could give me a hand I am deeply desperate and in need of some serious help Sorry for all the begging and for the huge post but I had to be sure that I gave all the details Thanks a lot

A:Compatibility issues after downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 7

You have an intel graphics card and not a ATI thats why the catalyst drivers wont install
The chipset drivers will get rid of the SM bus & USB issue
The card reader drivers will fix the USB CRW issue

I had to downgrade a samsung 350 laptop the other day which had exactly the same issues. I'll look for the drivers and get back to you as soon as i can find them.
But in the mean time if you look at the hardware ID's it will steer you in the right direction

I am using OneDrive to work on files at work (Windows 7) and home (Windows 8.1). Last night I made modifications to the files at home. When I went to access the OneDrive files from work this morning, the files showed a modification date and time for last
night, but when I opened the files, they showed none of the updates I made last night. I went to Onedrive.com and logged in. The files showed all the changes I made last night. So I downloaded the files from onedrive.com, saved to a folder on my work computer
then copied over to OneDrive from my work computer!!  Argh!  I thought the whole idea of OneDrive was to make changes anywhere and see them anywhere.  Why did my Windows 7 computer not see the changes made to OneDrive files on my Windows 8.1
computer???  THanks for any help.

The dell laptop our family have been using was full of junk. I mean ridiculous. We decided we had what we wanted on an external hard drive and we were more than happy to just wipe the whole thing as state from a factory state again.

I went into the option for the factory reset and it asked if i wanted to make a back up of anything. Hmmm, I thought, and I selected pictures and videos but that was it. I then left it and it took about an hour to do that. then it said it was ready to be reset so i went with it.

Now? I Get the Bootmgr thing. I've tried to reboot it from all the options, but theres nothing from it to boot from anymore.

I dont have an installation disk, or any disks that came with it. It was bought from Tesco and it was already installed.

My question - if you have got this far , is

a) is there a simple no/low cost fix
b) if I decided to pick up Windows 8 Pro from Sainsburys down the road, will popping that in save the day?

I'm not a heavy user and we do have a *cough*mac*cough in the house but I'm not so familar with it yet and I do have more technical knowledge when it comes to Windows than Apple macs! (believe it or not from my post!)

Hi -- Welcome to Seven Forums. There is a no cost way to fix this. If you have access to another computer that works, you are in business. Go to this link Dell Community and download the version of Windows 7 that you have now (Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate) and also select either X86 (32 bit) or X64 (64 bit) whichever you have now. Download the correct file and burn it to a DVD at no more than 4X speed. If you do not have a burning software I suggest downloading The Official ImgBurn Website This will get you a copy of Windows that you can install in your PC. After you have it installed and are happy with it, enter the 25 character Product Key that is on a sticker somewhere on your PC. This will activate the Windows 7 and you will be good again. If you have any questions, just let us know. This will guide you through the installation. Clean Install Windows 7

Hello,

I have my updates set to automatically download but not install. I see I now have KB2993651 downloaded and ready to install. Reading on the internet, it looks like this was supposed to replace KB2982791, which came on Patch Tuesday of this month and caused problems on some Windows 7 computers. I never did have KB2982791 and I figured that was not offered to Windows 8 computers.

Now I'm seeing people are having problems with KB2993651. Has anyone here installed this? If so, any problems? I'm holding off for now, just wondering if any Windows 8 people were having issues with this update.

A:Windows update KB2993651 on Windows 8--any issues?

Microsoft recommends uninstalling the KB2982791 but no big deal to leave it. Go ahead and install KB2993651, no problems here.

hi, welcome to TSG.
I don't see anything wrong with your log, except for too many programmes running!
When was the last time you ran disk defragmenter?
you have far too many start up items, use the link below to trim them down.

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

Try trunning these tools see if they find anything and ccleaner will get rid of a lot of unnecessary files like temp files etc!
download ccleaner

http://www.ccleaner.com/
* Install CCleaner
* Launch CCleaner and look in the upper right corner and click on the "Options" button.
* Click "Advanced" and remove the check by "Only delete files in Windows temp folders older than 48 hours".
* Click OK
* Do not run CCleaner yet. You will run it later in safe mode.

go to this site and download these tools and once you get both
adaware Se 1.6 and spybot, update both of them.

Set adaware to do a full system scan and deselect, "search for neglible risk
entries". Click next to start the scan. Delete everything adaware finds.

reboot and now run spybot

Spybot: Search and destroy.

Delete what spybot finds marked in red. After updating spybot hit the
immunize button.

reboot again

Go here and download Microsoft Antispyware Beta. First in the top menu click
File then Check for updates to download the definitons updates.

After updating look in the right side of the main window under "Run Quick
Scan Now" and click Spyware scan options. In that window put a tick by Run a
full system scan and then put a check by all three options below that then
click Run Scan now.

When the scan is finished, let it fix anything that it finds (have it
quarantine the items that have that option rather than delete just in case.
It is a beta program and there may be false positives)

Restart your computer.
All tools can be downloaded at the link below and found on that page!

.
. Microsoft® Windows AntiSpyware
. SpyBot search and destroy
. AdAware SE

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html

have hijack this fix these entries. close all browsers and programmes before
clicking FIX.

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it.
Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you

A:Windows XP issues

This is a common problem, when a tech or more educated member steps in to help a person, things go wrong and they get blamed. It is possible that when you removed the viruses with AVG, a system file was infected and it removed it.
If you can not get onto the computer to fix it then may i suggest phoning up Microsoft or the computers Manufacturer to get assistance from there.

Sorry i couldn't be more useful, however when the computer is not accessible its very hard to fix most problems.

I have to run start-up repair or the pc runs chkdsk every time I boot up in the morning. Can somebody help me on this?ThanksYou can start here at Microsoft Windows 7 compatability web site. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibi...us/default.aspxHere is another Microsoft Windows 7 web site http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows...p/top-solutionsYou may also have to go to the web sites of your products and look for software that is coded to work properly with Windows 7.Also there is an option within windows 7 Ultimate that is called XP mode. It runs just like a copy of Windows XP.You can also run any program in compatability mode by right clicking the .exe of your program and choosing PROPERTIES then click the COMPATABILITY tab and click run this program in ####### mode. Mine says Windows XP SP3 Mode, but if yours might say Vista or something else. There are also other options in that list that might help you get your programs to run correctly. As for your having to run chkdsk every time you start the computer. You might fix this problem by going to COMPUTER right clicking your hard drive and choose PROPERTIES and choose TOOLS then error-checking. click CHECK NOW make sure "automatically fix errors" and "attempt to recover bad sectors" is checked marked. When you click OK it will say check disk can not run while disk is use would you like to schedule it to run next time you start Windows say YES. Reboot when you do not plan to use the computer for a while because this is a long process, when the computer reboots check disk will run and reboot back to Windows when its done.Hope these suggestions helped.

Hey all,

I am currently using a USB Data Modem on my laptop. I'm trying to share my USB Modem's connection with my router using an Ethernet cord and the windows 10 ICS tool. This worked flawlessly on windows 7, but for some reason is not working on windows 10.

My Set Up.
*3G USB Modem
*Acer 5750G Laptop
*CAT5 Ethernet Cord.
*DWL-3200AP Router.

Steps I took.
*Connected the Ethernet cord to my Laptops LAN connection.
*Connected the Second End of the Ethernet Cable to Router's WAN Connection.
*USB Modem Connected.
*Shared Connection on Modem with Ethernet with ICS.

Hello,

I have a Windows XP SP3 pc that won't hold the static IP or DNS settings. In dhcp mode it won't go to the internet because the DNS seems to be damaged, blocked or something.

I deleted the network properties and reinstalled, reinstall network drivers, installed another network card and it still isn't working. This all started after the pc was infected and we cleaned it.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

With a brand new OS installation I would suspect some hardware problem - bad disk, too much heat, etc.

Hopefully this is posted in the correct sub section of the forum - please feel free to 7 CD Windows issues key move or advise where it should be posted if it is not I am currently rebuilding a laptop for a friend HP Pavillion G and would like some advice please I have been following the instructions Windows 7 CD key issues provided in the Clean Reinstall Windows tutorial but have run into an issue I obtained the CD key using the KeyFinderInstaller program as the one attached to the underneath of the laptop is beyond readable and then removed all partitions on the drive using diskpart I then used my Windows Home Premium Service Pack CD to reinstall windows to the laptop the same version as that which was originally on the laptop and entered the CD key that was obtained The problem that I have is that the CD Key starting FG is not accepted and following some more digging on the forums Windows 7 CD key issues I suspect that this is the manufacturers build key and not the one specific to the laptop itself Oh the beauty of hindsight So the question is - how can I get the key that is specific to the laptop so that I can rebuild this successfully As previously noted the one on the underneath of the laptop is beyond legibility so that is an non-starter Should also note that I have tried to rebuild this using the HP Recovery software and that gets to circa and then goes no further one of the CD's is damaged Thanks in advance

Contact the manufacturer for new recovery cd`s

You could contact Microsoft about the key, but I doubt they will help you. They will just tell you to contact the manufacturer, but, you never know.

So I had to get a new computer earlier this year because my old one died on me So naturally it came with Vista I wasn't too happy with it so once I was able to get W through my schools MSDN partnership I was quick to download and install it a couple weeks before it's street release I spend most of my time on the computer playing a mildly outdated game With Vista it wasn't much of a problem the only adjustment I had to make was and Windows issues 7 XP to run it in XP SP mode and turn off a water option and there wasn't any problem With W it decides that the program is incomparable and crashes it at random on top of still having the water problem from Vista I had heard of the XP runtime mode prior to getting W so I dled that and tried that out Unfortunately since XP runtime mode makes a fake videocard for itself you can't install any video drivers Without video driver well games fail miserably So I decided to live with it for a while but either it is crashing more often or I have just lost my patience I have tried over the past hours Windows 7 and XP issues to get XP Windows 7 and XP issues on this system and just recently found this Everytime I boot from my XP install disks I've tried Windows XP Professional SP and Windows XP Pro x It will get to the setup screen Windows 7 and XP issues load files and then blue screen me I am currently at a loss and feel nauseous even looking at my computer atm Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Windows 8 and several issues

Hello Howdr,

The way UAC works has changed a little bit in Windows 8 due to the new Windows 8 "Metro" UI.

In order for Store (Metro) apps to work in Windows 8, UAC cannot be completely disabled using Never Notify like you could in Vista and Windows 7.

You could still use the Vista or Windows 7 method to completely disable UAC, but all Metro apps and the Store would no longer work in Windows 8 until UAC was enabled again.

User Account Control (UAC) - Change Settings in Windows 8
It basically comes down to that if your user account has been elevated (ex: disable UAC, built-in Administrator account), Metro apps will not work.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

So I've been on Windows 10 for 2-ish months now, and since I have, my PC has slowed down quite a bit. And now, just yesterday I got this popup from Windows Defender and everytime it tries to clean it, an error occurs. I've tried multiple adware and malware cleaning programs and nothing's seeming to help to rid my PC of it. I'm not sure what to do or how badly this is harming my PC. Here's a screenshot of what my Windows Defender says. If you have any idea how to help me, please tell me, this is very frustrating.

Edit; I've been having a lot of crashes ranging from MEMORY_MANAGEMENT to SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Could these be caused by this too, or should I continue looking for other problems relating to that?

If System restore won't work you may want to try the Last known Good Configuration. If that fails, you might wan to do a Repair Installation of the operating system.

You write that the hdd is constantly working, does this mean that the LED indicating hdd use is constantly on? If is the case, then you may have a problem with the hdd. Obviously you have access to another computer, so what I would suggest is that you go to the manufacturer's wed site and download their diagnostic tool to see if you have a problem with the hdd.

Hey guys sorry for the kinda dodgy heading as I didn't exactly know how to summarise all the problems I'm having haha Firstly there's a BSOD with the following error IRQL not less or equal I know about this this is networking related it only happens occasionally this need not be worried about here Thought I would mention it for the sake of knowing however Secondly during the boot process BEFORE the login screen a black screen will be seen the windows boot sound will be played and a - seconds later it will show the password entering screen Thirdly after login or before login depending on if the PC is left alone the system will black screen and completely freeze with no response to anything even pressing Issues Several 10 Windows the caps lock key does not make the light come on for caps I can get into safemode but after a while it will black screen and freeze as mentioned above I've tried to run MBAM and this has triggered the black screen List of things I've tried System Several Windows 10 Issues Restore - All restore points were wiped presumably by malware MBAM - Causes black screen in safe mode and the system won't stay on long enough to let me run MBAM in normal mode the black screen occurs much faster in normal mode Booting into CMD - Attempted to run sfc scannow system black screened not long after Windows startup repair - Couldn't find an issue So I'm thoroughly stumped on what to do here fellas The system specs are hard to obtain since I cannot keep the system booted long enough to get the required information At the moment I'm definitely thinking the black screen issue may be HDD related but I don't have a USB gt SATA adapter to retrieve the files off the HDD and run a chkdsk Is there anything else I can try Also due to the fact that I can't keep the system online for more than minutes at the MOST If I'm extremely lucky getting log files is rather difficult Cheers LC EDIT Also I've considered a system wipe but the person I am cleaning this computer for has photos and other files that she would like to keep If at all possible this is an absolute last resort

A:Several Windows 10 Issues

Hi LC14199 and welcome to Tenforums.

Sorry to hear you're having so many problems. To get your files off the hard drive, you could load a live Linux (Ubuntu) distro, and grab them that way. Boot using the Linux DVD, and select to try Ubuntu without installing it. This will bring you to a desktop, and you can copy all your existing files over to an external drive.

I assume you upgraded from W8.1 (that's what I see in your system specs). Did you have issues upgrading or did it go smoothly? Or, are these issues a result of the upgrade? Once you get the photos/files off the system, I would do a clean install. You won't have to enter a keycode, as W8.x has it embedded in the BIOS.

You can grab the latest W10 ISO here:
Tech Bench
.

p.s. System Restore must be manually turned back on after upgrading to Windows 10.

I am running the 64 bit RC version of W7. I will get the full version but according to MS, this RC should be having problems until March 1, 2010, however, I am experiencing problems right now that did not happen until recently.

The problem that I am experiencing is for no reason at all I lose control of the computer momentarily. I can be typing something then BAM, it disconnects the active window and I hear a tone each time I hit a key. Sometimes I'm in a full screen game and that is worse because I have to activate the task manager just to press the windows key + enter to reconnect/activate the game. Has anybody else experienced this? Any ideas, other than buying the full version of W7, that I can do?

A:Windows 7 Issues

I'll bet you have a driver problem, perhaps caused by a tweak you did or an application that you installed. Exactly what does "disconnects the active window" mean? When did this start, and what did you install/remove/update before it started happening?

A:windows xp oem issues

OEM liscense is for use on one and only one computer, but so is the retail liscense. There are business liscenses, which are for use in multiple systems, but they cost If you change computers, they will allow you to take the operating system with you, but you will have to call them and tell them what you are doing to activate it.

Those who acquire software licenses through one of Microsoft's volume licensing programs will not be required to activate those licenses. Microsoft understands the unique deployment requirements of businesses that need to acquire licenses in volume and provides product that does not require activation to those customers. Qualifying as a volume licensing customer is easier than many may think. Customers can qualify for Microsoft's Open Licensing program by purchasing as few as five licenses. More information on Microsoft Open Licensing and Microsoft's other volume licensing programs can be found at the business licensing Web site.
Software acquired as packaged product will require activation. Software acquired on new PCs sold by OEMs will also require activation; however, the software may be activated by the OEM at the factory before delivery to the end user.

My Computer crashed about a week ago. I bought a new hard drive and reloaded everything. Two issues:

1. When one of the administrators, logs in, the screen says "preparing windows". It does this for a few minutes every time.

2. I have one user that there favorite links that are in a folder called "Favorites". However they do not show up in Internet Explorer. They only way to access them is go to the Favorites Folder. The Folder does not have the star in it.

Hello Windows 7 issues in FTP wise people of Bleeping Computer I'm not sure if this is in the right forum or not I have run into an issue that is apparently outside of my FTP issues in Windows 7 skill set and FTP issues in Windows 7 would appreciate some help figuring this thing out I have a professional ADrive account with about GB of data on it About GB FTP issues in Windows 7 is spread out over several zip files that I had uploaded about a year ago The largest of these files is between and GB The next largest is GB and the rest are GB and under I have been trying to retrieve these files for a week with no success I HAVE been able to retrieve the smaller individual files what are not zipped up I am using a PC running WIndows Home Premium My internet is MB s DSL which comes in through a Westell G modem and then is routed to a Cisco E The modem is bridged to the router I did turn off the firewall protection yesterday but am unsure if that was wise to do or not I do have WIndows Firewall so I am still protected I have not altered any other settings because I can't be sure what they all do Here is what I am running in to Windows File Explorer will not connect to FTP at all I have tried Mapping the network drive and just opening a window and typing addresses in I get the error Windows cannot access this folder Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder Details A connection with the server could not be established This occurs with any FTP I attempt to connect with including ftp microsoft com I WAS able to connect to my ADrive account through webDAV I cannot pull anything off of it though that is more than MB The error I get is An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the folder If you continue to recieve this error you can use the error code to search for help with this problem Error x DF The file size exceeds the limit allowed and cannot be saved The zip file that is throwing this error is only MB FileZilla connects and does attempt to download files However I am consistently disconnected and or timed out The downloads will start off with download speeds into the Kb s range which is odd but awesome and then normalize down to around Kb s which is still higher than my normal speeds and then after a few minutes rapidly decrease down to like B s and then to where it stays until FileZilla aborts the download Internet Explorer will not connect to FTP Google Chrome connects but I get the same honky download speed behavior that I get with FileZilla only it doesn't time out as quickly It still does fail eventually though Adrive downloader on their Website acts the same way Chrome does I started the download last night before bed and woke up to a GB useless file and a blacked out download screen with no error I am certain I am missing something here ADrive email support has been less than helpful They say they do not control speeds and are ignoring my emails now I could call but I want to be certain sure that the problem isn't on my end before I call and bark at a live person I don't think my ISP is the culprit because other downloads work just fine it's just when trying to pull files off of online storage I will admit that I do not have files on another server to check to see if I can retrieve data from there so I cannot be certain this is limited to ADrive I DO know that speedtest net tells me my speeds are right where they should be Thanks for reading Cherie

You can Undo the changes made by System Restore: System Restore: frequently asked questions - Windows Help
The Bios has nothing to do with your Windows 7 Product key. This would only come into play if you were using the UEFI Bios in Windows 8.

Hello Everyone, I am a novice at computers hence pardon my ignorance on the most obvious.

I recently bought a gateway laptop with Windows 7 home premium. Everything was working fine, till I decided to partition my drive. I started the process and returned after a couple of hours to find the laptop totally "dead". I tried to reboot it and it keeps asking me to insert a recovery CD. Nowadays, the recovery CDs are not sold along with the laptops.

Hence, I downloaded the .iso file for Windows 7 54 bit from microsoft's website and burnt it on the CD and tried to boot the machine from there. But, no success. On some further investigation, I got this message:

pxe-e61: media test failure, operating system not found windows 7.

How bad is this? and what is the fix, if any?

Thanks a ton, in advance.

A:WIndows 7 issues

Not sure what you did for the partitioning. That should have only taken a few minutes - not hours. It looks like you wiped the MBR (master boot record). Here is how you can rebuild the MBR, but for that you need the installation disk (which you should have burnt from the recovery partition. That is always first order of the day). Maybe where you bought the PC they can help you out with an installation CD. Else call Gateway. They will ship you one for a S&H charge.
For further discussions it would help if you exlained how you were trying to partition the disk. Here is my video tutorial that explains how it should have been done. Is that the way you did it?

When Windows won't start in either safe or normal mode it usually indicates faulty hardware,

Use a bootable CD to test the RAM: http://www.memtest.org/
Use a bootable CD to test the HDD: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/
(SeaTools for DOS can test any make of hard drive)

You can use the free IMGBurn utility to create the bootable CDs: http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

You will need to go into BIOS Setup to set the CD/DVD drive as the First Boot Device if the PC does not boot from the CDs,

I have Windows 10 enterprise and I installed 32 gb ram in my board and for some reason hardware reserved is taking up 103 mb. I do not have onboard graphics I have a dedicated gpu there is no onboard on my motherboard. It's not a big issue but just annoying it doesn't show just 32 gb installed. It's an Asus aura 970 using a amd fx 8350 8 core. The ram is g skill ddr3 1833 MHz.

A:Issues with Windows 10 and 32 GB ram

I've found that Windows will take a bit of RAM regardless of what an Add-in card has. I have an AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB Add-in PCIe 16X adapter on my WIn10 computer with 8GB RAM, DXDIAG Display tab shows it has 4848MB memory available.

With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

A:Several Issues with Windows 7

By upgrade do you mean:

A inplace upgrade from Vista --> Windows 7, keeping all your old settings and files?

Or format your HD, and do a clean install of 7.

In the past two months I've updated to Windows from Windows Since then my computer has crashed roughly every week The best information I can provide relating to these crashes is that it always seems to happen around the time I put my computer to sleep or taken it out Issues Windows 10 of sleep Most of the time I find my computer already on after having crashed and rebooted automatically Another issue I would like to mention but I may need to go to a Minecraft forum for it is how from one day to the other Minecraft's performance has dropped with no obvious explanation I've been running it over FPS for a while and after shutting down my computer one evening and turning it back on the next morning it has been running below FPS After removing VSync setting the FPS limit from FPS to Unlimited doubling up on RAM decreasing the render distance and setting the program on high priority it still Windows 10 Issues runs on average between and FPS at best It's somewhat surprising considering my computer's specs I doubt this is related to anything above but I'll mention this as well just in case When building my computer I bought one of the cheaper Wi-Fi adapters for it It seems to stop working every so often causing me to have to reset my computer It is a known issue with those adapters though and I am planning on getting new one My computer is a desktop I've had built for me Below I have provided my computer's specs that I've filled out to the best of my ability upon joining the forum The computer is roughly years old If any other information is needed I'll do what I can to provide it Computer type PC Desktop System Manufacturer Model Number Unknown OS Windows CPU Intel Core i GHz Motherboard Unknown Memory Gb Graphics Card s AMD Radeon HD See my final post for solution

A:Windows 10 Issues

Hello FredJ,

It must be very frustrating for you because that is a good build spec and should provide good gaming performance. I see that you do not know anything about the motherboard, that actually could turn out to be quite critical and I would guess you have not updated any of the motherboard drivers if you do not know what make or model it is. The first thing I would suggest is that you find out from whoever built it what the board is (or look inside and see what you can read off the motherboard labels) and then update the drivers from the manufacturer's website. This may go a long way towards sorting out all your problems. The graphics card will also have regularly updated drivers and you might need to install the latest version for this.

Please review what you find and we can take it from there.

I own a copy of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit...I never faced any problem with the 32 bit copy but 64 bit windows has the following issue -

Without Internet sharing, starting a hotspot, I connect my iPad to the hotspot and assign it a static IP and it works and provides the device with a static IP.

However when i turn my 3g stick to share internet connection, the device takes ages to get an ip and it isn't static. Rather an IP obtained from DHCP. Also, it never completely connects to the network and hence there is no access to internet or other files.

Is anyone else facing similar issues ?
