I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been out of the country for several months, came back to find my housesitter has changed my password on my laptop (it prompted her and she must have misspelled etc) and I have no record of it, multiple possible combinations are not working. Help! I do not have a password recovery disk as the XP support suggests making.
Tech support through my University says yes it can be taken care of but it's complicated and therefore they are told to redirect people to XP tech support...Any thoughts?

Hi everyone

I am trying to recover a passsword for a MS Word file.

I have got the Passware - Office Key program. After about 4 days of the program running it said it was unable to find the password, this uses the Dictionary Attack, Xieve Attack and the Brute Force attack.

The password is just a standard 'password to open' file with just characters and a number, although i don't know the length

I have been searching the internet a lot and keep reading about password recovery/remover programs and they all say how good they are!!! I've been looking at Word Password from LastBit, but not sure if this is just going to be the same as Office Key??

Does anyone know of a program that is 'Guaranteed' to work. Even if it justs get rid of the password.

Cheers

Kev.

When you get to the logon screen, Ctrl \ Alt \ Delete and access the Administrator account. By default there should not be a password. Not unless you put one there.

A:password recovery

Hello, and Welcome

You can enable the Hidden Administrator Account using a bootable disk. Follow the steps here. Once you have the Administrator Account enabled you can change or delete the password in Control panel under USERS. On a Windows 7 computer you can burn the iso by right clicking and selecting Burn Disk Image. On a XP computer you can use isoburner. It's best not to reset the password. Only enable the Adminstrator account and use that to change or delete the password of  your account.

If there is more than one account on the computer, log into the account that does not need a password and type CMD in the search box. Right click > Run as Administrator then type:

net user administrator /active:yes
You can disable the Administrator account again using

net user administrator /active:no

I'm trying to help a friend who bought a Sony Vaio Laptop and before she could create her recovery discs, she created a password and now it's not working. I've tried using the Offline Password Recovery tool, but the partition on her drives do not allow it to be accessed with this utility. I'm thinking that since it's a 64-Bit partition, that it may be affecting what's happening at this poing.

Any suggestions would help.

Hey guys,

I have a question... Is it possible to recover a password used to log on to a site, when u choose IE NOT to remember the password??? I have the username, but don't know the password, and there's no way for me to retrieve it, so i hope i can find it somewhere on my system... I'm running W2K SP4 and IE 6...
What happened was this:
I logged on to a site, using username and password (via a form on the site)
I choose NO when IE asked if I wanted it to remember the password
This was on saturday
And I need that password, i do still have the username though

Hope that anyone can help me!!!

Thanks!!!

Greetz,

P.

A:Password recovery

Ah man, I remember having a program like this before. I need to see if I can still find it somewhere if I have it. It's on the tip of my tongue, but I can't remember it exactly. I remember finding this on Google once, but it needed some specific key words for that program.

If you registered at a site, they should have a way to send you your password or at least a way to reset it. They should have a link that says Forgot Your Password? where you can click on it and they will sent the reset password or your actual password to your email account.

A:password recovery help

OK..I might have a way but it's a long shot since the key3db isn't the original you're using right now. I just tried it and it worked just fine with my installation.

Well..here goes:
#1) back up/move your actual key3db to a safe location
#2) Download FirePassword 3.5 Free . unpack it to your desktop (just the folder inside
#3) copy the key3.db with the password in question in the correct folder of your firefox installation usually
C:\Users\<Login name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<your profile>.default

#4) open a command prompt (CMD) and CD into the folder you unzipped onto the desktop in step2.
#5) enter in the command line

firepassword.exe >>.\pwd.txt

press Enter and after a few seconds you should find a file named pwd.txt with all the host/password combinations from your key3.db.

If you had a master password set then this way will not work...but there are programs out there for that too

Please let me know if it worked
Good luck

Ok now as standard there is a built in Administrator account with no password set (Hopefully you haven't changed this password)

1. restart your PC pressing F8 and when the boot screen comes up select safe mode with command prompt
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type net user (name of user) *, and then click OK. i.e net user placehold *
4. Type in the password you now want it reset to and confirm the password
5. then reboot

Okay, I am trying to fix my parents computer for them, and I need to be logged on as the Administrator, in order to do what I'm trying to do. Well, the problem is, is that I have no clue what the Administrator Password is.....I have asked my parents, and since it was over a year ago that they installed XP, they also have no clue what the password is. (Dad forgot his e-mail password, not even an hour after he created it!!!)
So, how do I, either, change the password, or find out what the Administrator Password is?
Also, does a created account user, who has "computer administrator" privileges, still have all the same access and priveliges, as does the actual Administrator. (the Administrator account that shows up when you boot in safe mode)...

Hello Amyer, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could go to each account's site, and click on their "Forgot password" or "Reset Password" link for this. They may require you to enter your user name and email address that you registered with them.

Afterwards, I would recommend to write down all of your accounts along with their log in names and passwords in say a spiral notebook, and keep it somewhere safe if you should ever need it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Let me first off start by saying I realize a lot of you wont help me because of what I am asking. Let me just say, I am doing this out of curiosity. I am not trying to break into anyones protected files, or even ones that I forgot a password to. I am doing this entirely just to satisfy my curiosity.

Ok, so here is the poop.

I got bored the other night, and decided to try and learn how to break into password protected zip files. I looked around online, found some trials and played around. I found one that seems pretty good (KRyLack).

My question is, does anyone know of a similar program that is multi-threaded?

Waiting a week while it tries to brute force into file is horrible with my three remaining cores sitting there doing nothing.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Hi, If you normally sign-on with an email and password, see if you can reset the password via another PC from the Microsoft page on the following link.  https://account.live.com/password/reset When you've reset this on the Microsoft site, connect your notebook to your router/access point via a ethernet cable, start it and then leave it at the log-on screen for a few minutes before trying the new password. Regards, DP-K

However, I was trying to remote to my laptop from work just now using TeamViewer and realized I don't remember my password.
FAIL.
I recall having a utility back in the day that I could use from a boot CD that would let me ad an Administrator account and change the password.

Any suggestions?

I don't think so, the password file within Windows is heavily encrypted and near impossible to decrypt (without knowing the password of cause).

I would recommend using a tool such as Help and Support on RecoverAnyPassword.com which will change the password, but at least you can login.

System model?

I think that we need some clarification as to what type of password you reference. If Dell wanted to charge money...I don't think it's a typical user password that you refer to...and I've not heard of Dell ever charging the ridiculous sum you quoted...for recovery disks.

FWIW: There are various retailers who sell these recovery disks...for far less than you stated.

Hello again,

a couple days ago my wife found a flashdrive with a whole bunch of vacation pictures from our early days. The only problem is, theyre in a compressed folder to which apparently there is a password in order to unzip them all. I know there are programs which can recover lost passwords, but I was wondering if there was an option that didnt require money in order to get the full effect of the program.

If its not possible or reasonable that's fine, they will be casualties like many slides my parents have, but it'd be nice.

Hi i recently took over from a previous engineer as a broadcast and IT systems engineer the last guy set the some bloody tricky passwords on some crucial kit and didnt pass it on to me he has since forgotton these passwords I am not a total novice but i specialse in networking and recovery password broadcast systems not system admin so i need alittle help The data on these machines is ireplacable and is not backup so a rebuild is out of the question they run win k I have found a few tools that claim to password recovery be able to help by creating a linux boot cd or floppy you boot this linux disk an then it password recovery is supposed togooffand sort throught the registry and find the password Trouble is that i cant make the bootcd The app is called austrumi I think i may need to compile it but am not a programer so woul know where to begin Can anybody help or does anyone know of a decent bootable password recovery tool enough respect stretch

A:password recovery

To create a bootable cd you need to be able to burn the image file onto the cd. Search for burncdcc. this will burn the image file correctly to the cd and make it bootable. then you need to restart your computer and configure the boot device selection to check if there is a bootable cd in the drive before it boots from the main OS. Most of the time you can enter the setup when you restart your computer by pressing f1 or f2 (it should tell you which one to press to "enter setup").

P.S The image file will probably be an ISO file

I have a Windows password recovery challenge/issue for all...

My Mother-In-Law forgot her Windows (XP) password and I havn't been able to crack it.

PLease note:
-) Logging in via safe mode does NOT provide administrative access nor bring me to the desktop. This process simply brings me to another Windows login screen (the PC was a hand-me-down and I believe there is an adminstrative password as well)
-) I have downloaded a few windows password recovery tools and burned their images to CD
-) I have accessed the PC's BIOS screen and placed the proper CD-ROM drive 'first in line'
-) The PC fails to boot from disk and continues to boot directly from the hard drive...bringing back to square one

At this point I don't know what else to do besides melting the old Vaio down.

Your help/insight would be greatly appreciated...

So with that in mind be real careful about accepting and using any information that you might get to your question.

I tried so many software companies, but they were all saying that they could crack only WordPerfect ver. 5.0 and up. How frustrating! Any hint from anybody? Your help will be highly appriciated! Well, you could try a brute force cracker, but they often come with viruses, and take days, even weeks, with low specs, to complete the task. Another way is social engeneering, which mean you dig up everything relating to youre self and try them as passwords. I'm afraid your password is most likely lost. I've heard that you could go to the installation folder and hook the password from some .ini or .inf file, but im not sure. Good LUCK!

Hi,
The other day for some stupid reason I decided to change my laptops password to whatever it was I was thinking of that day and now I can't remember what it is. There is a partitioned recovery drive on the computer that I am wondering if I can access to reformat the hardrive so I can get back on my computer. On my old desktop the restore option would come up on the BIOS screen but now I don't know if I have to be logged onto access it because I can't seem to find an option for it. Please help me this is my new laptop and now I can't even use it.

It's a Vista Home Premium Dell
and has a partitioned recovery drive in it.

Thanks,
James

A:Password Lost/ Recovery help

Dell doesn't display the key sequence to access the recovery partition on boot. Unless Dell changed it, it will be CTRL-F11. You need to start repeatedly punching this in as soon as the BIOS checks starts up.

Remember, this reformats the hard drive and you will loose all your data.

Hey, not sure if this was the right topic, i was unsure if this should go in "Security".

Anyways, a friend of mine is running a computer with XP, and has forgotten the password for his account. He can't go onto other users (his sister's for example) and remove his password from there, because he gave everyone else "restricted rights" accounts, and made his account the only administrator. I said I could re-install windows for him, start anew etc. and he's fine with it, as are the rest of the users. But, the local computer shop say they can remove the password, through BIOS.

I'm not completely computer savvy, but surely thats impossible? If you could remove passwords through the BIOS, a computer/harddrive could be stolen, and the passwords on the accounts would be useless. Can anyone explain the logic here please?

Thanks in advance

I'm trying to rebuild a system, there is a recovery partion on drive F, when I hit F10 on startup (which is the PC's key) it gives me 'boot edit options' rather than the chance to reload to defaults.

I tried F8 and had a repair option, this gives me a blanck login (proper vista login, not a DOS login) whioch the administrator password does not work

Any ideas how I could get hte recovery partition to run? The PC is an Advent PQD6002

My hd crashed a couple weeks ago, not allowing me to start up windows, and my disc drive was out. The WINDOWS/SETUP was missing or something like that. So just now did I have the chance to hook up another disc drive to it. I'm going into the regular Windows XP Setup, then into Recovery Console. It asks me what installation, and lists "1: C:\WINDOWS". Thats the only installation detected, so I push 1. ]

My problem is this: it prompts me: "TYPE THE ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD". I never set an administrator password I believe. Pushing enter just exits the recovery console. I tried typing administrator and windows, but to no success.

Does anyone know what to do in this situation?

I would have just reformatted my hard drive, but there is some stuff on there that I will not be able to get again and I would rather have.

Thanks.

A:Recovery Console... Password???

I would just do a general repair on your Windows installation. You would go about this with your installation disk as if you were going to install (or reinstall) Windows. When setup sees that you have an exisiting Windows installation, it will give you the option of repairing it. Choose that, and it will repair without reformatting and losing your data. Be careful though, do not delete the existing Windows or the partition. If you are doing this and have any doubts, ask before proceeding.

A:90% CPU usage after using password recovery

Hi relickoodge

The high-cpu usage is likely due to the program that runs as a service - it looks like the main recovery-engine of the package. It's supposed to calm down after a few passes through the system.

If you can uninstall the beast, I'd recommend that. Try in Safe Mode. I'm fairly skeptical about after-the-fact password recovery programs -- they can be subverted for hacking tools. As with any free download, there's also the risk that there's an unwanted guest aboard. Run some malware scans from both Safe and Normal mode - on as "thorough" or "high" settings as your scanners allow. Should a serious infection (or more) be found, consider trying the 5-Step Security Checklist in the HiJackThis/Security forum here at Tech Support Forums --- http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968

Can I assume you did the in-place reinstall from within Windows & used the same Windows folder install location as your original install? --- Or? (Did you use a "Recovery/Restore Disk" or a genuine Windows installation disk? Did it include SP2?) --- since you reinstalled, another source of heavy cpu usage is going to be Automatic Updates having to download a lot of Security Patches since SP2 was released.

If you have recent backups (that scan free of pests), and don't want to spend hours cleaning up malware, you of course have the option to "nuke and pave" [Write-protected Bios flash/zero-write hard drive(s)/let XP setup repartition, reformat, reinstall = starting over from square one]. It takes about the same amount of time as hunting down pests, and is fairly certain of success. A clean "Ghost" re-imaging is even faster & just as certain.

Let me know if you have questions
. . . Gary

P.S. ... if you do end up trying to root out some malware, make sure to check for rootkits, too. BlackLight's free trial has been extended until Jan 1,2007 --- http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try_blacklight.html --- and SysInternal's "RootKit Revealer" is a free-for-personal-use tool --- http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...tRevealer.html --- in fact, while you're at SysInternals, why not grab Process Explorer while you're there, too --- http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...sExplorer.html --- and lastly - if you haven't heard much about rootkits yet, another good article about them is in a Gizmo newsletter from February 2006 http://www.pcsupportadvisor.com/rootkits.htm

WHEN RECOVERY step three but when i tried to do RECOVERY CONSOLE ASKING FOR PASSWORD WHEN NONE IS SET!!! copy c windows tmp RECOVERY CONSOLE ASKING FOR PASSWORD WHEN NONE IS SET!!! system c windows system config system it tells me that the file could not be copied and then from then on i cannot even access the md tmp anymore it keeps telling me that access is denied I am at my wit's end here considering that I have gotten so close to the end of the process only to have it blow up on me like that even more difficult to fix than the previous problem Any help will be appreciated Thanks

A:RECOVERY CONSOLE ASKING FOR PASSWORD WHEN NONE IS SET!!!

Did you heed the warning about an OEM installation. The only way MSs fix works is with a full purchased installation on XP. If you didn't pay attention to this and it's OEM, then you can't reenter the recovery console and a reformat and clean installation will have to be done unless someone knows a way around this.

Through the registry editor - how can I get the user password? I have admin rights, but want to learn more about administrator rights and how they can recover passwords.

Thanks

A:Solved: Password recovery

You can't do this through the registry. What you can do as administrator is change a password.

Are you able to still use your old password? Or is it that you cannot get into your system due to the fact you do not know your password?

Please read this if it's the latter.

I have an HP touch-smart running Windows 7 Home Premium. There are only two user accounts, my dad had the administrator account and the other one, the family would use.
The admin account has always been password protected and I always knew what it was.
I decided to remove the password on his account since he passed away a few months ago, just to make things easier in case I ever forgot that password.

So now the other day, on my personal account, an update for iTunes pops up and I try to install it, but the User Account Control says I need to put the admin password. I enter the one my dad had but it's unrecognized.
I'm completely lost as to why I'd still need to enter a password since I took it off in the first place?
Help would be greatly appreciated!

It appears the password recovery disk feature only works with a floppy. Has anyone found a way to use a CD or flash drive instead?

I did a very silly thing. I created a homegroup in Windows 7 and left it. My PC was the only computer on it. I have lost the password and wish to recover it or reset it. How do I do this when no computers are on the homegroup even though it still exists? I can't create another homegroup as Windows keeps telling me one already exists. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Shane

I am helping a friend that has a Toshiba Laptop that he cannot get into.  He has forgotten the password and I can't seem to find a way to come up with a way to help.

I do have a password recovery tool that has helped me gain access to Windows 10 and Windows 7 programs.  I can't seem to get the disk to boot into cd I have.

The UEFI method of booting to Windows 8 won't let me even though I have gone into the BIOS and reset the disk to run from the CD.  Does anyone know how I can get my CD to boot.  I have seen a technician do it but I am not sure how.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

A:Password Recovery for Windows 8.1? Help.

Make sure SecureBoot is disabled in UEFI. You may need to enable a setting called Legacy or CSM boot and disable any setting called Quickboot or Fastboot.

On a Toshiba you should be able to access the boot menu by tapping F12 at boot. You may need to enable the F12 Boot setting in UEFI.

I am in need of a tool that can decrypt the "hexidecimal" or jumbled numbers and letters of a Win2k password. I am using the program "Ideal Administrator 4.3" and when I retrieve the password of users it saves it to a log. Here is an example:

Hi gkimble...replying to questions like this on public forums is always difficult. I'm sure it's against the Users Policy here, as it is on other boards I frequent or moderate.

Best advice I can give is to use your favorite search engine.

I'm locked out, a virus changed my Administrator password. Any ideas on getting in the backdoor.

Or how about OS recovery, doesnt it reset the security, new install.

???help

A:Win2k password recovery

First, get rid of the virus. If that doesn't get you in, you will have to wipe out the current installation of Windows and start over from scratch. You'll get no help with password cracking here. There is a forum rule against that.

My husband was recently given a laptop by a vendor whom he doesn't see often. As far as I know it works, however, it has a password which I cannot crack even using the password hint. There is no disc drive so I loaded basically a hacker program on a flash drive to get the password. I have followed all of the instructions but the laptop won't load past "Press F2 to enter setup" with the flash drive in. I then have to force it to shut off, holding down the power button. I don't know what else to do at this point since it did not come with the distcs. If I can't figure it out I will have to wait until my husband does another job with the guy. Any help would be appreciated.

At what point are you being asked for the admin password. If you're in the Recovery console, you normally just need to press Enter.

I have activated Bitlocker on two identical W8.1 pro machines, and on the first (C1) I have the option to use a password when logging into the computer, but the other (C2) only ask for the recovery key from USB stick. Both computers have no TPM, so Bitlocker is enabled without TPM, but this should give the possibility to start the computers using a password on 8.1 pro.

Can I somehow add a password to C2, or is my only option to remove the Bitlocker encryption and try again?
