Laptop doesnt recognise memory card?

Q: Laptop doesnt recognise memory card?

Hey i got this laptop about 6 or 7 months ago and it has always had the problem where it wouldnt recognise the micro SD card that I put into the slot.

I have the Acer travelmate 5710 and am using two memory adaptors one is a 'DSE' and a sandisk microSD/transflash adaptor (I have a microSD 2GB card.)

when i insert it, a little remove safely comes up in the bottom tool bar and in 'My computer' there is a little picture of a memory card and i double click it, then it says "Please insert a disk into drive F" and im like, err there is a disk in there (my memory card) Do I have the memory card drive ( F: ) configured as a CD drive instead of memory card drive? Help me please someone.

Preferred Solution: Laptop doesnt recognise memory card?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Laptop doesnt recognise memory card?

unfortunately not all laptop use all different brands of memory.
make sure you know the max amount of memory the system takes if you exceed that it will not reconize it and also find out what the brnd was originally and go with that brand but to answer the sd question see if there is a bios upgrae as well as removeable drive drivers on there website. if not you are out of luck. sorry if i got carrie away in the beginning lol. good luck!

I have been using Sound Blaster Live 5.1 digital Sound Card Model No SB0220 for several years with Windows XP. Loaded W7, does not recognise Sound Card. Tried to load Sound Blaster software from original disk however this method failed also. Begins to load but then it just stops and I get a message saying that sound card is faulty. Has anyone else had the same problem? appreciate advice on the issue.

A:Windows 7 doesnt recognise sound card

Did you check with the Windows 7 Compatibility Center to make sure your sound card can be used with Windows 7? If it is compatible, it might just be a case of finding the correct drivers. Try visiting your sound card manufacter website to download current drivers for Windows 7. If Windows 7 drivers are not available, the Vista drivers may work.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you are still having issues.

My nvidia geforce mx440 64MB is recoginised during post but windows doesnt recognise it once it boots up. Windows doesnt show it in device manager, it only shows an SiS adapter which only has 16mb of memory. I'm using an intel 865 motherboard and i think it has it own adapter however it doesnt have a port to connect the monitor. I've tried tweaking with all bios settings i can find but it is still not recognised by windows. What could be the problem?

I assume I have a hardware problem with my DVD RW DRIVE (E) and will have to spend money to fix it or most likely replace it, but when i insert a cd into it i can hear the noise of what sounds like the driver trying to read the cd but thats it... nothing else happends. I have a dell M1330 XPS (5yrs old) using Vista 32bit. The drive is MATSHITA DVD +-RW UJ-857G ATA and its status is "This device is working properly." (which i certainly take issue with).

If anyone can shed any light on possible solutions I'd be greatly appreciative.

A:dvd: cd rom driver doesnt recognise anything is in it

This is very unlikely a "driver" issue. The ONLY driver for CD/DVD drives is the built in default Windows driver.

If "auto play" is not selected, when you insert a disc it will do exactly what you describe. If you click Start/Computer and then click on the drive does the contents appear? If they do, then the problem is just auto play has been disabled.

This can be a drive hardware problem, but can also just be a Windows status corruption, even if the Device Manager shows it as "working Properly". In fact, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the drive to highlight it and then LEFT click "uninstall". Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the drive. This fixes a lot of device problems.

I checked the Dell downloads for the M1330 CD/DVD drive firmware and there is nothing listed for the drive you list.

now scroll down to your (USB Device Tree) and (uninstall)all that it is shown / then shut your sysem down compleatly then unplug all (USB Devices) then rebot your system 2 to 3 times

this will cause Windows to rebuild the (USB Device Treee & Drivers)

Hey guys, Ive got a head scratcher here.

I have a PC that was running fine until someone connected some digital cameras and other peripherals.

After everything was disconnected she was getting blue screen errors. But now the comp wont boot and doesnt seem to see the HD or DVD-rom in the BIOS. I pulled the HD and tested it on another PC and it works. I can open it and see whats on it.

So I cant see either drive in the BIOS, I disconnected the HD and tried to boot with a Linux Live CD. And it just says 'Select proper boot device and restart pc'. I pulled the battery on the MOBO for a bit to reset BIOS. Then went in and tried to make sure HD was set to 1st. But it doesnt see any drives?!?!

Any other ideas what I should try?

I bought Peter Jacksons King Kong for the PC yesterday. Its the full retail boxed copy, not a pirate verison. I installed it and then got the ubisoft message asking for the cd key. I have entered the cd key on the regisration card that came with the game but every time it tells me I have either input it incorrectly or its the wrong key. Ive tried in caps, lower case and both with and without the hyphend that separate every 4 characters. Its driving me up the wall. I've tried googling for advice but all I find are sites offering no-cd cracks. I dont need a crack, I need help in getting my copy to work.

Check through Ubi's support - they may be able to provide you with a valid key if you can provide a receipt. (I know a friend of mine had to go through that avenue with his copy of Half-Life 2 - the legit key for his game had been swiped and used to register a pirated copy.)

I'm running XP Pro and recently installed a programme called PowerISO to extract a .daa file. As soon as I extracted and burned to disc using this programme, my E Drive was displayed as a CD Drive and no longer recognised my Buffalo 1GB memory stick (which always used to open on the E Drive).

I uninstalled PowerISO and the E Drive (CD Drive) went with it, but the PC still will not recognize the stick. I get a "bing" when I insert the stick in the USB port and the LED flashes green. Also the diagnostics in Device Manager tell me that both the USB Port and the Memory stick are working properly......and the stick works fine on the office computer.

What exactly happens when you plug the stick in? Windows Xp should have the driver preinstalled and should reconize it and then assign it a drive letter. Try the stick on a different computer if you can and see if the same thing happen. This way we can determine if it is the stick or the computer.

A:XP fails to recognise memory stick

plug it in and see if disk management sees it. If not you will need to find the driver for it. If it does see it but no drive letter, right click it and assign a drive letter.

# Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

A:will any sd memory card do for acer laptop

HI George Pretty much any SD card will work in your Acer laptop, however, make sure you buy a well known make from a reputable dealer. There are quite a few fakes around, which will cause a lot of grief! You can use either standard SD or the newer SDHC ones if your laptop is made after 2007/8. If it is an old laptop, then use the standard SD.

A:Tecra R850-11U doesn't recognise full memory

The chipset supports 8GB RAM so you should be able to use the 8GB.
But if the BIOS does not recognize the 8GB RAM then one of the modules could be faulty or not compatible with another module.

This is only and one plausible explanation for me

What card did you have in it before you upgraded. Did you remove the old card before installing the new one.

Try to reseat the card in the slot, they can be fussy about getting good connections.

On my laptop, nothing happens (my folder autoruns for my external harddrive), and it doesnt appear in 'My Computer', I know it has been assigned g: so i run g: and I get this error message:

The file does not have a program associated with performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.

A:Computer does not recognise new graphics card

the card being a 4X AGP should not be a problem. what did you have for graphics to begin with? did you have another card or onboard graphics? if iit was onboard did you disable the onboard graphics? also if you downloaded the newest forceware drivers that could be a potential source of the problem the newest drivers are not really meant for older generation cards. if you know the maufacturer of the card go to their site and download the drivers they have for that card.

As you never know when this can happen I always have the drivers saved on the other hard drive so I can install them all when it asks.

Only this time Windows XP Pro SP2 does not seem to recognise that there is any audio hardware.
I installed the drivers before discovering this problem.
Also worrying is the fact that PC Wizard 2008 does not seem to recognize any audio hardware (soundcard) on the motherboard.

The motherboard is a: Foxconn 661 7MJ
with this chip set: SIS 661FX/GX
and the usual working driver is a : AC'97

I really don't think this is a driver issue....
The BIOS does not have any obvious sound options as far as I can see.

All of the pictures on my digital camera got deleted. I have attached the SD card to a memory card reader and plugged into the USB port, because I hope to recover my pictures via a photo recovery software. However, my laptop is not detecting the memory card reader, although the blue light is on. When I click devices and printers, it shows up as a removable disk (drive E). Further, none of the recovery programs have detected my photos from the memory card reader. They either show drive E as having nothing on it, or don't even give drive E as a recoverable option.

How can i fix this these problems?

Hello, memodialYou wrote:> checking on BIOS if the network cards appears (actually says disable, and no way to "enable it")This is a key feature to troubleshoot IMHO.What settings do you mean? WirelessLAN Access or WiMAX Access? WiMAX features don't influence to the WLAN (WiFi) ones, they utilize the different interfaces for data, but the card might be controlled (power on/off) via the single bus lane #20 (I'm not sure though). To enable BIOS Settings changes check out the LockBIOS Setting.Make sure wireless radios switch is enabled (on the laptop onboard).Do you see unknown devices in the Device Manager? For devices w/out drivers installed they might be in the Other Devices category. There might be a problem with drivers as Intel doesn't provide them for this card and win10. What drivers did you install?

Hi Everyone,

My laptop has two graphic card options
Intel HD Graphics 4000Nvidia GeForce 630M

Ideally, I'd like to use only the 630M, so I disabled the Intel one through the Device Manager and have had no problems.

I then went to launch the Nvidia Control Centre and I got this error message:
So I re-enabled the Intel graphics card and I could then get back onto the Nvidia Control Centre... Strange!

Disabled Intel again, and I couldn't get back onto the Nvidia Control Centre, I then ran a DxDiag, and it is recognising the Nvidia as a 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' if the Intel 4000 is disabled.

Checked in the Device Manager and that does show as the Nvidia even with the Intel 4000.

So, I'd just like to use the Nvidia GPU and be able to open the Control Centre.

I've been using this USB since February, and it's only today I've come across this problem. I tried it on the computers in the local library, my laptop and another home desktop with no luck at all.

I have a lot of work on there. There is no brand for the USB as I was given it by a medicine company (my father is a doctor so he receives free items from these companies from time to time).

The LED light is on so the USB actually works.

Thanks in advanced.

A:Laptop won't recognise USB

Hello Sepulcher. Welcome to the forum.

I'm guessing that this is a USB Thumbdrive (Stick).

The LED indicates that the thumbdrive is getting power. It will also blink when transmitting data. If the LED is continuously lit it could mean it is trying to access data but can't. In normal operation the LED should turn off after connecting.

Do you get a "Ba-Dupe" sound when you connect the thumbdrive on any computer?

Do you see a switch of any kind on the thumbdrive?

Be prepared for the possibility that the thumbdrive is dead. When they die it is like a light bulb.

you could try looking in your device manager, see if theres any (!'s) that show a driver or a device isnt working correctly. Could also try going to the manufacturers website (of the hard drive) and installing any sort of driver or software that they offer, might be able to force the computer to cooperate that way :P

Also, the USB cord might be shot? could be letting power to the HDD but not data you know? try wiggling it or using a different cable, (that is if the thing has a removable cable)

A:The laptop does not recognise dongle

For the most part, they either work or they don't. Sound quality is more an issue of the audio chipset and the speakers.

Assuming the device is being properly recognized, the drivers simply need to be installed. If it's not recognized, or not recognized properly, the device is likely faulty.

Be careful. This FD Beta... partition is your active partition that contains the bootmgr. If you delete it, the system won't boot.

No idea how it got to that. But before you delete that partition, make sure the bootmgr is saved - e.g. moved to C. You can try to do that following ihis tutorial, but I am not 100% sure whether that works in /8.

Hi all, I recently purchased a tablet (Amazon Fire) and I cannot transfer files from my laptop onto it. At first I thought it was a faulty tablet, but then Amazon sent me a replacment with the same problem. I plugged it into a different laptop (also running Windows 10) and it recognised it no problems. Plugging it into my laptop it does not come up in the list of drives under the PC directory, but going into settings> list of drivers, it sees the "Fire" driver and says it's "unavailable". My laptop never recognised my ipod in the same way but it still functioned with Itunes so it never bothered me, but like the tablet it is also under the list of drivers as "unavailable".  The laptop itself is only a year old. HP Pavilion 15-ab270sa 15.6" LWindows 10 Any help would be great. Thanks

A:HP Laptop won't recognise Ipod or Tablet

Welcome to the HP Community @mfjoe. I hope you find what you're seeking here.  I see that your PC-to-iPod and PC-to-Amazon Fire connections aren't being recognized by your HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab270sa. I would like to assist you with this.  Are you finding your PC's USB ports are working with other devices? If you haven't already done so, make sure you have the latest drivers installed by running the HP Support Assistant.   The Microsoft forum offers a few tips here that might help with iPod and the tablet as well as the hookup technology is shared. Amazon's user forum offers further advice here. (Note that you'll need to scroll down to the second last entry for the action-oriented steps.)  Let me know if that works out better. If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to say "You rock!" by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution. Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Have a great day!

I have a Dell inspiron 1100 notebook. When booting the computer goes into bios, but then the boot process stops with an error because there is no hard drive or bootable disk. There is in fact a hard drive. Thinking that perhaps (hopefully) the hard drive failed somehow - I ordered a replacement hd and installed it using all the normal precautions. The same error persists. I have checked bios and everything looks ok, I can boot DOS off of a cd, but the hd is not recognised.

I am taking a guess that this is a mobo problem and that I will need a new one. If anyone has any other ideas of what to try before the considerably painful process of swapping mobo's on a laptop please let me know.

Thought I was being really bright and adding my bew HP wireless printer to my iinet Belkin Router. Printer told me it needed MAC address added so went in through and added it but hit the Enable button (big mistake I'm now thinking) Laptop immediatley lost internet connection. Rang provider to get help and they advised to resset router back to factory settings but couldn't reset (router now 3 years old) as the little button doesn't work. I am using Windows Vista
Is there another fix apart from getting a new router?

A:Stuffed up WPA & can't router won't recognise laptop.

Hi Franph, and welcome to TSG.

If your laptop was using a wireless connection that no longer works for you, you could try using a wired Ethernet connection.

Your subject line mentions "Stuffed up WPA". Were you changing the wireless security settings?

For the "Printer told me it needed MAC address added" part, exactly what did you add where? Did you do some kind of IP address reservation for the DHCP server in the router?

Got a new won't recognise Laptop ethernet connection router along with a broadband speed upgrade the other day Problem is that the router is currently set up in the kitchen near the phone line whereas most of the network devices are in other parts of the house Wireless speeds are nothing to complain about but I wanted to test out the wired side of things The laptop is only thing convenient to move near it at the moment but no matter what I do I can't seem to get W to 'see' a wired connection even if I disable the wireless card and it's associated software The chipset for the ethernet port seems to be working but I can't even see an option for a wired connection in the network wizard My Synology NAS connects to the router through a wired Laptop won't recognise ethernet connection connection just fine and I can see my NAS if I connect it directly to my laptop on the ethernet so I'm a bit confused Could I be looking at some sort of incompatibility between the laptop and router Laptop is an Asus K- F running W and stock bloatware

A:Laptop won't recognise ethernet connection

You did install the drivers for the wired connection?

A:Memory doesnt refresh

Have you tried reinstalling? sometimes things just don't go right on an install and odd behaviour will result. If you reinstall and it behaves the same everytime then i would begin the long hunt of tracking down the problem.

I ve got a yr-old Toshiba Satellite laptop Model A - U which I recently restored using the recovery CD - it s running Vista SP Please bear with me as this may be a long-ish story but it helps to explain my problem Around a year ago a virus made its way onto my laptop and DVDs CDs won't will Not recognise Drive -DVD recognise straightforward but RW a one almost destroyed the OS - I d consider myself to be Not a straightforward one -DVD RW Drive will recognise DVDs but won't recognise CDs fairly knowledgeable software-wise having studied IT at college and so set about the long process of trying to fix my laptop without resorting to the recovery CD It was a patch job but after a month or so I had it working again and it was fine for a further few months or so before I noticed that my DVD RW Drive would no longer read and or burn CDs I spent hours trawling internet forums for help without any luck and was subsequently convinced that it was a hardware problem As I needed to use a CD burner my cousin lent me his USB DVD RW drive and this didn t work meaning that logic suggested it wasn t a physical problem with the drive rather that it was more likely a problem with the registry OS This wasn t surprising seeing as I d done a basic patch job following the virus infection a Not a straightforward one -DVD RW Drive will recognise DVDs but won't recognise CDs few months earlier After becoming increasingly frustrated with my laptop in general I backed up my data onto a portable HD and used the recovery CD which came with my laptop The laptop booted the CD up when it was outside of the OS as per the instructions that came with it and restored the entire computer to its original state and solving a lot of the problems that were caused by the virus in the process I ve spent the last week re-installing programs copying back data etc and was in the process of installing some software from a CD today when I noticed that the laptop was having difficulties accessing the drive Windows Explorer knows the drive is there it is listed in quot My Computer quot and will also have the little CD icon alongside the pointer when it is trying to load the CD up - suggesting it knows there is a CD in there However the drive itself will still read DVDs which suggests it could be a physical problem with the drive itself I read somewhere about the laser having to change its angle accordingly when reading CDs and DVDs I question this however as the computer was able to read the recovery CD when I was in the process of a complete restore and it was having the same difficulties reading CDs in Windows before the restore I ve tried all the methods suggested in similar posts on this forum - Microsoft Fix It Uninstalling the drivers etc to no avail So yes I am pretty much stumped and am wondering if anyone can help The DVD RW Drive is listed in the Device Manager as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T N ATA Device Thanks Ben nbsp

A:Not a straightforward one -DVD RW Drive will recognise DVDs but won't recognise CDs

That is a strange situation you have there, by any chance did you look into the manufacturer site to see if there is a Firmware update for your DVD Drive?

Best of luck and I hope someone can come along and help you with this weird situation.

Hello HumbertHumbert,

Do you have sound in other applications? Is the problem only with media player? What version media player are you currently using?

You could also try reinstalling your audio driver.

My laptop has suddenly decided not to recognise flash drives and some digital cameras.
Was working fine before but I had an episode with a digital camera auto.inf file infected with virus and I wiped the file off the camera. Maybe I wiped something off the laptop system as well... (XP).
I posted a thread on this previsouly but it wasn't resolved: see
Fiddling with TweakUI as per one helpful suggestion put the previously-infected digital camera back on line but other cameras and also flash drives won't show up in My Computer when plugged in. They do appear in device manager but not in My Computer, and there is no auto-play window that opens when plugged in.
Any other suggestions out there?
