HP Pavilion keeps shutting off

Q: HP Pavilion keeps shutting off

Hp Pavilion running XP Pro keeps shutting off after running a short while. Thought it might be a virus so began to do a clean install of XP Pro. It shut off shortly into this process. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you get a "Blue Screen" before it shuts down? How old is the computer?

A:HP Pavilion All in one PC: Shutting down

Hello Mystery7,

Your computer is shutting down after a few minutes of use.

Make sure that there is not a build of dust inside the system by cleaning the vents with compressed air. The system may be over heating.

Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.

This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.

If the entire test pass.

Turn off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

Let me know how everything goes

Hi, For the last couple weeks my laptop will just shut down when it is not plugged in - without any warning. The battery shows plenty of power. I am only usually able to get 20-30 minutes without it plugged in before it does this. The battery is not warm when it shuts down so it is not overheating. It works fine when it is plugged in. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.

Computer shuts down, after 5 minutes. I have checks for dust particles near or on the fans, in the case etc. System still shut down. Last night (-12-2007) I performed the F10 system recovery operation. I get through the entire recovery at which point I begin using the computer, then after 5 minutes it turns off. What's wrong?

A:HP Pavilion DV7-3120eo shutting down randomly

Hello Hirujira,

I understand your computer is having random issues with shutting down, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.

I would like you to try checking the reliability monitor, what this does is any time there is a major system issue it is tagged on this timeline.

1.       Click on the start menu button

2.       Type reliability in the search box

3.       Click on view reliability history

4.       A box should appear that will similar the screen shot below.

If you see any red x?s you can click on heme information will be presented in the column at the bottom. Check that timeline to see if it shows any common issues.

Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

Hi there nbsp I recently received this monitor as a replacement for a DOA monitor that I purchased a few weeks back All was great for the first few Pavilion unresponsive HP and 27xi keeps off shutting is days until the monitor unexpected went black while I was using it The power button still glowed white but the screen was showing nothing no backlight either and the power button become unresponsive The only solution has been HP Pavilion 27xi keeps shutting off and is unresponsive to unplug the power supply and replug it back it nbsp The problem with this is two fold it happened in the first place it continues to occur However whereas it seemed to only do it ever day HP Pavilion 27xi keeps shutting off and is unresponsive it now will shut off and become unresponsive after only minutes of use and will continue to shut off within those or fewer minutes even after the power supply has been unplugged and replugged nbsp I don't think it is an issue with the computer or drivers because it happens to both my PC and two of my Macbook Pros late and late Nor do I believe it an issue with the cords as it happens to both the VGA and HDMI port nbsp nbsp - It is a HP Pavilion xi inch- IPS LED backlit MonitorProduct number C D AAManufactured December which is a little frustrating seeing as in how the one I sent back to be replaced with this one was made in May

A:HP Pavilion 27xi keeps shutting off and is unresponsive

Hi there @rcollins218?Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you purchased a new monitor and it was DOA, and that your replacement is becoming unresponsive after about 5 minutes or so of use. I am happy to help you with this. I thank you for the detail you have included in your post about the testing you have tried with multiple interfaces and computers, To me the fact that there is no change at all, between any of them suggests a hardware fault, and that is equally frustrating as you had a DOA monitor in the first place.  If you haven't already, I would suggest you try looking at this document, and try the factory reset.HP and Compaq Flat Panel Displays - Display Quality Issues Press the Auto or Autoselect button on the monitor.Press Menu, and select Factory Reset. If the monitor has more than one type of connection available such as VGA, DVI, or HDMI, try a different type of connection. If the problem remains, then it is most likely a hardware issue. In that case I would recommend contacting phone support, and let the person know the details of your situation, including your original purchase date.  Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Windows frequently shutsdown by itself (while closing my laptop)... and when I shutdown, it restarts itself... And my video options in skype frequently changes to Livecam avatar (and i have to change it manually to integrated laptop)

I have Mcafee Total protection and run MBAM once a week... and it shows no malicious items

Is this a windows vista problem or something deeper?

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

My HP Pavilion 500-205t was destroyed by a lightning strike. The HD is o.k. I have purchased an HP Pavilion 500-490 because the specs were very close.  I  want to use my 205t HD. Both computers are Core i3-4130, have 1 TB 7200 SATA 6G 3.5 HDs, same OS (Windows 7 Pro 64). My question is:  can I swap them out, or do I need to get an external HD enclosure and copy the 205t to the 490? A:PC Keeps Shutting Down

The Dimension 4600 is a rugged computer that lasts a long time with little trouble. I see nothing in your description that presents hints of a problem.
We can assume that you have good, current spyware, adware, and antiviruses installed. We will also assume that your power supply and cpu fan are free of dust and hair. So you present a fairly unusual problem.
When you have this shut down, are there any blue screens or other error messages on the screen at the time, or when your turn it back on?
Three years is enough age to consider replacing the CMOS battery, and the CPU fan even though you have done a change-out of the fan.
Look for cables that are brittle, or stretched, then reseat them as well as all your PCI devices. It does sound like a hardware problem. Sometimes a pci device such as a modem or sound card will creat this problem. Sometimes a hard drive will have intermittent spurious responses.
Since you did not mention the hard drive, I would suspect that as the problem area. Hard drives often contain corrupted software after three years. It is often a good idea to save your data, then reformat and reinstall eveything. The Dell Dimension 4600 usually (but not always) used either a Maxtor or a Western Digital. The Maxtor was one that had early failures, and the WD hasn't been much better.
With hard drives now so inexpensive, with the Seagate ATA 500 Gb now going for $140 at many locations, and the Seagate 80 for under $60 while the 40 GB is $40. This problem might be a good excuse for change... The Seagate has a five year warranty. See www.zipzoomfly.com, www.directron.com, www.tigerdirect.com, www.outpost.com, www.pcconnection.com, or any other major site for good prices.

A:xp pro not shutting down

I don't think " divx and K-Lite_Codec_Pack_710_Standard" would cause a shut down failure.

Try this for shutdown;
%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0
(Create a shortcut with the above "Target", or type it into " Start, Run".)

If that works, you have a corrupted ShutDown link.

EDIT: Here's the Restart command structure;
%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -r -t 0

we have this Compaq pres. xp is shutting down. It says something like this in this popup window
This shutting was initiated... NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
WINDOWS MUST NOW RESTART BECAUSE THE REMOTE PROCEDURE CALL (RPC) SERVIVE TERMINATED UNEXPECTEDLY

A:xp shutting down

Umm, that happens when I windows process (which should always be running) is terminated. It was either u (through taskmanager) or a virus which killed this program. Scan your comp with housecall here, http://housecall.trendmicro.com if it finds a virus, use trend micro's website 2 find instructions on how 2 remove it.

While running an app. (itunes) my pc has recently started flicking off by itself - - to windows restart mode (XP Pro) - note that power did not shut down and stay off.

Does this sound like a power failure glitch (internal power supply - as backup is not affected) OR possibly the motherboard OR processor?

How can I tell the source of this?

Its been awhile since vacuuming inside the case, so there is an off-chance at the processor overheating.

Unit is about 5 yrs old and power supply is original. Main drive replaced last yr. And it has a case fan.

I am logged on to the server at Johns Hopkins from home and am trying to send email. Sometimes it works but usually Explorer displays an error message and says it has to shut down. The most recent error message was "the instruction "0x0346418e" referenced memory at "0x03790160" The memory could not be read." I reinstalled IE7 and it didn't help. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks-

Since doing so, if I have a file, window, program, mail, web site, you name it, open......and I click...come to think about it, I don't really have to click anything!!
It closes to desk top!!!
This is really a pain in whazoo when your in the start or middle of something.
I was using my search to find some files on my other 2 hard drives and when I found what I was looking for and clicked on it POOF! desk top!!!

And thank you for reading and I hope your help.

I have recently transferred my Ahtlon XP PC over from one case to another generic case to a Antec P Now for some reason my PC will just shut down every hours or so shutting PC itself down I am not sure how it shuts down as the screen just vanishes the fans seem to turn off but the blue LED on the front of the case stays on It doesn PC shutting itself down t seem to be in sleep mode or anything as wiggling the mouse doesn t help at all and I don t have it set to sleep This only started happening when I swapped cases I thought maybe it was over heating but the temp seems to be at c and I checked the bios and there isn t any setting for it to shut down at this temp I am stumped and not sure what to do At the same time of me changing cases I also changed ISPs although I guess the case change over is more likely to be at fault then the change of ISP Although it has taken days since changing the case for this problem to begin which is also strange Any advice There seems to be no pattern to the reason for the PC shutting down Sometimes I can be using it and other times I come back to it or wake up to find it has shut down I know it is not closing down correctly as all my browsers ask me to restore a session when I reboot my PC so it is obviously just shutting down harshly Many thanks for any advice Athlon XP Windows XP gb Ram x sticks of ram HDDs W PSU Radeon nbsp

I have a Hauppauge TV-GO TV board. It worked fine in my last computer, but now I've got a new SONY running XP. The strangest thing... Every two minutes or so, the mute button on the TV program gets switched on... even if I'm doing absolutely nothing on the computer!! The hourglass comes up for about 1 second, and it goes silent. Clicking on the mute button brings it back, but it goes silent again a minute later.
The Windows volume program is NOT muted. All other sound comes through fine... just not the TV board!
No matter how long I leave it, it won't toggle the sound back ON by itself.
Certain things cause the muting as well.. like opening or closing the CD-ROM drive.
Any ideas??

My computer is once again having trouble with the sims.
When ever I play my computer just turns off. It doesn't say shutting down or anything. It just turns black and stops. I'll turn it back on and the battery is good and I keep scanning my computer for viruses or tojins but I don't have anything.
When I start the sims2 this thing comes up for custom content and I have a few files that had a warning sign beside it so I got rid of some of them. The others I've had for years and I never had any problems with them so I didn't bother getting rid of them.

Greetings

That definately sounds like a program that you have installed. Possibly a Utility program, like Nuts and Bolts, or WinBoost2000.

Do you have anything like that installed?

When I shut XP down, there's once program that has trouble closing down and the END TASK box appears. The program is:

hpcmpmgr.exe

I have an HP Pavilion t550.uk so this may be an HP program. Does anyone know what program it is or if i'm missing a part of it that is preventing it from closing properly?

Thanks for any help!!!!

A:Shutting Down...

The HP Component Manager (hpcmpmgr.exe) is not a program/driver/utility necessary for your HP devices to run. It is the program that communicates with HP Servers and checks for updates.

The problem you described is well known and HP has issued a patch:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN

Alternatively, you can disable it in msconfig so it doesn't load on every boot, or even remove it entirely if you don't need it.

Hello Everyone,

My pc has been shutting down on it's own lately. It seems like just about every morning the pc is off when I get to it. Also during the day sometimes when I am working it will shut down on it's own. I just replaced the power supply thinking that might be the problem. It worked yesterday but this morning when I looked it was off again. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?

Thanks,

A:PC Shutting Down

Overheating is the most common cause. Make sure the case is clean of dust build up, check to see that the fan is working.

Install Speedfan watch for any temperature jump from a cold boot of more than 20 - 25 degrees.

HI, ive done all the checks as to why my computer gets to the WINDOWS SHUTTING DOWN screen and then freezes resulting in me turning it off. Only thing it says to do next is to stop Norton checking the floppy drive on shutdown, can anyone tell me how to do this.

Many thanks

All of a sudden a box comes up saying that they are shutting windows down to prevent damage to my computer. Something about new hardware or soft ware. It shuts off before I can read it all and then wants to restart in safe mode. I haven't installed anything new lately.

A:keeps shutting down

go into safemode and try doing a system restore to a restore point prior to when the problem started.

When I try to shutdown my system, I stops at the "WIndows is shutting down..." screen.

I have left it like this for very long periods of time, and it still stays on that screen. What can I do? If I power off the machine from this screen I does a scandisk when I turn it on again.

I want my PC to start up and shutdown normally, what can I do?

My untrained eyes see...power supply as a logical candidate.

Unfortunately, there's nothing in Windows that can substantiate/refute that premise.

With my Toshiba Satellite which I bought in 2004 I have had it inspected and I have no virus or malaware or trojan horse. it is according to the tech very healthy. But for some reason or other it shuts down all by itself while I am working. I lose whatever I was working on and this gets very frustating any suggestions as to why it does this. I did a system restore a few weeks back and that did not change anything. Hope someone out there can help me. thank you so much

Why won't my PC turn off?

I built my pc around 1 year ago, and as you mind find out it was my first home build :P

So lately, i've been having problems turning off my pc. I go to Start >> Turn off computer >> Turn off, and nothing happens. I wait for 20minutes waiting for it to shut down, and still nothing happens. I've been turning it off using the main power on button on the tower lately as i can't wait for it to turn off that long.

Any suggestions/ideas why?

thanks

A:Shutting down!

Is your computer running slugishly, or is it only on shutdown? It could possibly be a spyware problem.

Any ideas??

My biggest problem in Win 8 is how do you find that "sweet spot" that you hover over to bring up what they call "Charm". If I hover the mouse at the bottom right corner it brings up the icons (settings, etc.) and sometimes the Charm. But most times it doesn't come up. I then move the mouse back and forth, up and down and finally it comes up. The same thing at the bottom left. Is there a way to bring up what is supposed to come up and not wonder if you are at the right spot or not? Sometimes I can spend a couple of minutes just to find the Settings icon to shut it down. Very annoying.

A:Shutting down

Test your ram. (If you have more than 1 module that is). Take out all but one and do this testing each module. See if this happens with one module and not the others. Also, do you maintain your computer with hard disk defrags? Have you tried to use the system restore? also , R click on 'my computer'...L click on 'explore'...L click on 'properties'...L click on 'tools'...L click on 'error checks'. You will see 2 error checks that you should run. Run the lower one first. It will go through 4 pages. It tales awhile so wait it out. Then run the other file check which will require a restart. Start there.

im on another computer right now. But when i boot up the computer. It lets me log in and ill be at the main screen where my icons are.

Then after 2 minutes it always shuts down.

If i dont log in and stay at the name menu screen it will still shut down after 2 min.

The screen goes black and thats it. I cant see anything anymore. The power on the computer remains on though, cause the green power light is still on.

I tried to do a quick virus scan but 2 min isnt enough time to do it. What can i do?

Why is it shutting off?

A:help, pc keeps shutting down

there could be lots of reasons. why don't you help us help you by providing some information about your pc, it's aprts, whenere/when you got it, what antivirus or firewall software you have installed, and what OS version you have.

you can find this by typing the command 'winver' and a run or command prompt.

Sounds like the standard virus attacking XP or Win2k. The virus disappeared after my XPs were updated with MS. It was successful that I couldn't help to suspect the virus attack may be an inside job engineered to create hell for the illegal owners of the software.

Hi there,

I'm having this problem where my computer keeps shuting down (automatically) when I log in, right when the applications are loading. The message that popped up varied quite a few times, when of the messages I've seen the most is: "imjpmig.exe-dll initiation failed" and "the application is shutting down".

Also, how do you change your BIOS (I'm so used to Win ME) with XP? Which button do you press and when do you press it?

Thanks for your attention!

A:XP PC keeps shutting down?

I would try either a clean install of Windows or you can try a repair install.

Looks like a file system problem. Ntfs.sys ( Ntfs+2844a )

Hello, I am experiencing an issue where it doesn't matter what browser I use, after 5-10 mins of use, it shuts itself off. Also if I run a search and click on one of the results, it takes me to a completely different website. Sometimes different apps close or if I am playing a game, it will also crash.

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.36) and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

How long do you wait for it to shut down? Can you hear the hard drive "working" while it's "shutting down"? Have you scanned for viruses? How old is this computer? Does System File Checker work with the Windows CD in the CD drive ( run: sfc /scannow )?

When i press the on/off button on my CPU, my computer shuts down as if i had shut down my computer properly. It saves my settings and everything instead of just turning off.

I got an error message a couple of times and everything kinda locked up, though i could still move the little arrow icon around.

Because of this, i was forced to press the off button and it has seemed to shut down every single time i've did it.

I was wondering if this is considered a proper shut down. Does doing this in anyway effect my computer?

Could any damage be done?

I was told by someone that you really don't need to shut down; According to them, you are able to just turn off your moniter and that's it.

Now, Personally, I'm alittle skeptical about this. But nevertheless, I figured I'd ask.

BTW I'm really not sure that this even goes here. But I didn't know where to put it, so...

A:Not Shutting Down

Technically you dont "have" to shut down your PC. If you leave it running all the time nothing bad will happen, other than certain components will have a slightly shorter life span.
However it is still good practice to shut your PC down when not in use, this not only make things like your fans last longer, but also free's up memory that has been used by applications.

When a program is opened, it takes up a portion of your memory (RAM) and then when it is closed it should free up the RAM again, but unfortunately this is not always the case and the more programs you run the slower your PC can become.

If you reboot your machine then it clears out your memory and makes your PC a little happier.

My PC is not shutting down with the 'shut down' click. I have to manually switch it off

A:PC not shutting down

Boot to Safe Mode and see if it will shut down normally from there. If yes, it's an application that is causing the hang.

Some years ago I put together a simple PC for my Lady Wife. It has worked well - it's based on a Biostar GeForce 6100-M7 using XP. The other day upon booting up, soon after the running blue dots, it just turned itself off. I tried various things to no avail. However I've at last tracked it down to the USB. With no USB device connected it's OK. With the optical mouse in it's OK. If I plug in the printer or a pen drive it immediately shuts down. Likewise with either of them in to start with it shuts down after the initial stages.

I am presuming that the mother board is at fault and that I've probably had it but if anyone knows a solution I'd be immensely grateful.
