Do I need to stress test if I'm not overclocking?

Q: Do I need to stress test if I'm not overclocking?

I have an intel core i7 4770k and I'm not overclocking it at the moment. My idle temps are around 28 degrees Celsius. Is it still necessary to run a program like prime95 and stress test my cpu even though I am not overclocking?

Preferred Solution: Do I need to stress test if I'm not overclocking?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Do I need to stress test if I'm not overclocking?

It's not necessary, but you can still check the stability of your system, regardless of whether you are over-clocking. I've heard many times, servers are done so to prepare them for future task. Running the test will allow them to potentially catch any issues before they are brought on-line.

Hi,

I set the CPU core ratio to CPU1:46 CPU2:46 CPU3:45 CPU:44 (don't know if this is a lot..) and didn't overclock ram or GPU. And the stress test I used is Aida64 and the temps weren't getting higher than ~62. I don't really trust myself with overclocking and want some advice on this. I also have a feeling that my PC was not stable before the overclock because of crashing at some games (it didn't happen many times). I have included the minidumps and a picture of the cooler that I have that should be able to handle overclocking lol. All the drivers and the bios are up to date.

Thank you for your help

I remember about two months ago I was doing stress testing just to test the stability of my computer. Whenever I did a test that tested a lot of RAM, the test would fail within minutes and it would say "Execution Halted.."

Just recently I did an RMA with kingston and they sent me 2 brand new sticks of RAM which I installed. I just now got around to testing again but the test still fails within minutes - I am stumped.

Is it possible my memory controller / motherboard is bad? The RAM is brand new.

Hey

I was running some tests on my computer to see the Min-Max temperature , so i wanted a good program that stresses HD, Ram, GPU and CPU. Just like ORTHOS ( But orthos only stresses CPU And RAM ).

Oh, and is it possible to Undervolt GPU's? ( I think it is a dumb question, but..).

And if anyone know cooling solutions such as Undervolting, please post together with the program.

A:Stress Test

Hi for the stress tests your best bet is to use 3dmark you can get a trial version from Futuremark

The 3dmark test would put most stresses on the CPU and GPU. However the CPU and GPU should be the only real producers of heat in a system. The Ram should produce only minimal amounts of heat as should the hard drive.

As to the second question about undervolting GPUs yes it is possible. I only know from an Nvida point of view but the both Rivatuner and The Nvidia Bios editor would help and the process is mostly overclocking in reverse. Reducing core voltages and then testing stability, you may need to change settings to lower the performance of the card to accommodate the reduced voltage.

Are you worried about temperatures and if it is the system in your Profile be aware that laptops usually run pretty hot. Are you experiencing graphic errors or shutdowns due to overheating?

I currently have my laptop connected to to a 34" high definition tv set via HDMI it is controlled by a remote keyboard & mouse from a USB infra red dongle. I was wondering, since the graphics and audio are onboard and have to share just 4GB of system memory will this setup be likely to shorten the life of the relevant components particularly as I intend to continue with the present setup? I should add both audio (Realtek) and Intel HD4000 graphics do an incredible job projecting video to a relatively large screen.

Hello there gervaise,I wouldn't worry that much, about them "relevant components".They are meant to "operate",work to their full potential,up to the level they are supposed to support.Unless "overclocked",under-maintained or mishandled, they should keep up for at least "ages"!Keep your machine in reasonable temperatures,dust-free,not a thing to fear of...
Pentium 3's are still operational,a 2013 laptop will sure survive a simple projecting task, keep the faith!

What is a good stress test for ram? I have 1gb of pc2-5300 and it is not enough to comfortably multitask in windows 7 and my computer is best matched to pc2-6400. I am going to get 4gb soon and was wondering about a good way to compare the efficiency of my 1gb of ram to the 4gb. What I am looking for is a quantitative measure of improvement other than a guess and the possibility of the placebo effect.

I have recently made myself a computer which I hope will remain a top of the line computer for some time. I purchased all the hardware individually and assembled the machine with some help from some of the IT people I work with. Now my problem is that usually it takes just long enough for warranty and RMA?s to expire before you find a problem with 1 of your RAM DIMMs. So is there a software, Utility, or something out there that will put my newly assembled machine through torture to see if it is up to what it?s supposed to be?

My machine build is listed in my profile.

A:Real PC Stress Test

Nice setup.

Intel Thermal Analysis Tool will max your CPU. You may also want to try something like SuperPi for a pure CPU test. CPUs are rarely faulty, but these softwares will see if you have any cooling issues. SuperPi may also indicate if you have some RAM issues by throwing some errors the longer it runs..

Memtest86 is really what you should do to test your RAM, that is going to take forever to do with the amount of RAM you have, even with a fast setup. So this is definitely something you should start in the evening and check on the next day. The bad thing is you can't use your new setup during this time.

As for graphics, I'm not sure what people use for that. But until someone that knows more about it than me I'd just tell you to run whatever the newest 3dmark is and look for any issues developing over time (like screen tearing, weird colors or artifacts). Its a good idea to have the latest drivers before doing this.

Hello,

I wanted some expert opinions on what program would be the best to use in order to test if a CPU is 100% error-free. If there is no way to be 100% sure, then whatever will get me closer to that percentage.

I have been using Prime95, but I am now reading that it's "known" (to who?) to have some issues, therefore a CPU that passes, say, 4 hours of Prime95 torture test, may not be 100% reliable. So which test would be in your opinion the most thorough to test my CPUs (intel x86)? I don't care about it taking a long time (if it's less than 2-3 days).

For each CPU that I test, I run Prime95 for 24 hours. Is there anything more thorough than that? Some people mention SuperPi, but what do you think?

A:Best software to stress-test a CPU

Prime95 is pretty much sufficient... Use OCCT in addition if you want to be 0.05 percentage units more sure about stability.

Basically this is a new system, however it does not come with a modem - the modem is required because they use dial-up. So my customer purchased one of his own, ever since the laptop has been experiancing a 0xA bsod. When the usb jack is not plugged in we still experiance the bsod.
The jack is a Zoom 56K Modem Series 1063 - we installed the 64bit drivers seeing as we have a 64bit OS here.

I debugged the dump files myself and received two process names:
win32k.sys
ntkrnlmp.exe

Specs:
- Windows 7 Pro x64
- This is the original Acer installation of Windows
- OEM

- What is the age of system (hardware)? System was purchased on Feb. 1st 2012
- Age of installation is fresh - barely even a month old

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi I ve run Prime a few test Stress failure times lately with no problems but last night one of my CPU cores failed after Stress test failure about hours which may explain the occasional BSOD during heavy gaming The advice in stress txt is that unless you re overclocking - which I m not - it s probably an overheating problem I know that s not the case since even after an hour of Metro on high settings the hottest any core has got is C My Zalman cooler works a treat The zip file might help but it doesn t seem to offer any other solutions Even though my CPU never overheats is it normal for one core to run - C higher than the rest It s only like this at start-up and all temps level out after running a while Apparently it s core that failed the stress test which is not the same as the warmer core in the Word file attached Thanks nbsp

Hopefully I'm in the right forum for this question as it pertains to overclocking my CPU. I haven't overclocked it yet as I am still reading up on it and researching before I do anything and understand that the best way to find a stable overclock is to do it a little bit at a time and to run some kind of stress test program to make sure it stays stable or if I need to bump up the voltage.

So after a little bit of looking, I learn there's quite a few of them out there. Some of the ones I come across are Toast, Prime95, Orthos, SuperPI and 3DMark. I don't think 3DMark is the right one because that's more for graphics, right? So which one is the best one? Please keep in mind I am running a Core 2 Duo and would need to stress both cores, of course.

Thanks!

Hello,

does anyone know of or can recommend a stress test application.

reason for asking.
installed new motherboard to desktop computer and it drops out occasionally. see new motherboard - windows 8 resets randomly for details of issue.

I want to run some tests before looking at new purchase of windows 8 OEM.

The issue seems to be when running games (high res) so maybe issue with GPU or processor.

many thanks in advance.

A:stress test application

Hello ascomputers,

I would suspect a possible GPU issue right off the bat because of the gaming issue. With that said, I would start off by downloading GPU-Z and monitoring my idle and gaming temperatures to see in any issue arise in that area:

Just download and run. Right click anywhere on the GPU-Z screen and select "always on top" when running. If you notice a high temp condition, maybe start off with a general cleaning but I would avoid any stress-testing software at this point to avoid permanent damage.

Download TechPowerUp GPU-Z v0.7.3 | techPowerUp

Good luck.

I recently built a computer with the asus OCII GTX 770 gpu and ran a quick stress test with msi kombustor. I set the setting to no anti-aliasing and 720p resolution (not full screen) and ran the furry and tessy (gl4) stress test. At about 7 minutes my gpu got up to about 83 degrees C with fan speed at 100 percent. I stopped the test as I still don't know too much about stress testing and how hot I should really let my GPU get. I know the NVidia website says the max this card can take is about 98 C but I was wondering if at 7 minutes, 83 degrees C was normal or if that is too hot even for this stress test. Thank you.

A:Question about my stress test results for GTX 770

For a stress test, that's pretty normal on an GPU like that, stress testing pushes the GPU to it limits which most of the time is more than games will even push it. As long as your temp stays below the threshold NVidia says (Which in your case is 98) then your fine. I would however, if you want to improve the temp, see if you can improve the airflow around the GPU area, the Asus Cooling system is pulling in air and pushing it down on the GPU which means you have to move the air once its been pushed over the card. I would try adding a fan around the GPU exhausting if your worried.

But honestly, your fine.

After a while of playing 1080p streaming video it sometimes pixelates, smears, multiple images, etc...

Hi,

I have a problem where a new set of computers randomly blue screen while being used.

These computers are all identical, ordered at the same time, have all shown the same symptoms and are recording the same eventlog events etc. I have already narrowed down the fault to the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager driver. So I have downloaded the latest driver to install on these desktops.

But here is the part that makes this frustrating. The fault is intermittent and occurs relatively infrequently but I know there is an issue. I need a definitive way of making the computer fault if it is going to fault.

I have tried using HeavyLoad from Jam software but that didn't bring the fault out on a PC I know has the issue.

Any suggestions? Bearing in mind its the iastor.sys driver causing the issue.
Cheers

Lately I've had crazy boot and load times, and what appeared to be disk issues (usage was 100%, read/write was little-to-none). Disabled a few things in services.msc (superfetch and windows search), which fixed the 100% constant usage.

But boot and load are unaffected. and i've also found that in games(Ark) and stress tests (prime95 blend), i can't get ram usage over 5.6/8.

I'm not sure if the problems are related. This is my first foray into 10forums, and my tech knowledge is limited.

Hmm, this is really a failing CPU. This could be a bad cooler or a failing CPU. I'd try to replace the cooler and see if that works.

This points to a hardware problem. In the majority of these logs, a hardware problem was detected by the CPU and reported to the operating system in the form of an MCE - Machine Check Exception.
The results of that problem are contained in the logs above, and the problem reported was a cache error.
Have you been overclocking the system much?
As most of your crashes are caused by running Prime95 and relate to CPU/cache issues, then it leans
toward CPU/Cache being at fault. First we can run some tests.

Did you check the CPU temps? What were they?
Did you apply new thermal paste when you reassemled your machine? Adequate Airflow?

I also noticed evidence of Registry corruption.

You could run SFC to check the integrity of all Windows 7 system files:
Click on the Start > Type in search cmd
Right click cmd at top and Run as Administrator
Type SFC /scannow at the prompt (note the space between SFC and /scannow)

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Also please Run chkdsk /f/r in an elevated command prompt.

A potential power surge crippled my PSU, and so I replaced it. Later discovered that a fan was dead on my GPU and the hard drives were potentially dying. Replaced both of them. I've now reinstalled windows and will have BSODs whenever I am stressing the system. I've checked CrystalDisk, and all seems to be well there. Recently, I also lost the use of my Ethernet port. I'm wondering if more hardware needs to be replaced?

Attached are my crash dumps and PC build.

Hello, I have been encountering automated reboot during gaming, since almost a year ago. I have swapped GPU and RAM sticks and even a new PSU just for testing. Problems still occur as of today.
Can anyone please help me to troubleshoot the problem please? It had been bugging me for quite a while.

I'll really appreciate your help.

A:Dell xps 9100 System Memory failed stress test

Hello!  Normally if a memory test fails the memory chips are going bad.  What you could do is go into the computer, take out the memory and put it back in.  This is called re-seating the memory.  Make sure you unplug everything including power, hold down the power button for about 10 seconds to make sure there is no power to the motherboard.  Once you re-seat everything run the test again and if it fails you might want to consider getting some new memory chips.

Hello,
I am trying to play Counter Strike : Source with my X800 PCIE card. I run the video stress test in the game and I get an average score of over 100fps. When I join any server, I get fps around 20. I don't understand what could be doing this. I've downloaded the latest Catalyst Control Center and drivers for this card and tried almost every option (at least I think) that I could.
Here are some specs:
WinXP Pro
Catalyst 5.11
AMD64 3000+
X800 PCIE
I'd appreciate any input...
Thank you in advance,

I just got this set of pc as a gift from my friend.
It comes with AMD Duron 950Mhz and KT7 Raid motherboard.
I tried to overclock it by changing the fsb/pci to 103/34 and it is running at 980Mhz fine with cpu temperature at 44C.
My question is, how high can it go?
why some people say that must change multiplier or voltage?
Thanks.

A Basic Guide to Overclocking Before we begin there are some things you need to understand There is NO safe overclocking All overclocking involves some degree of risk There is no guarantee of an overclock Just because someone else was able to OC the same cpu as you have to gig is NO guarantee you will be able to achieve the same overclock No overclock is worth anything unless it is a stable overclock If it is not prime stable it is NOT a stable overclock Do not ask how much you can overclock your XXX cpu There is no answer to this until you test in a systematic manner It is like asking how long is a rope You do not know until you measure it Do not ask about overclocking your dell hp gateway compaq or other big box system It is not going to happen Just about ALL big box systems come with a bios that does not have overclocking options Chuck amp s rule Do not overclock with parts you cannot afford to replace If you are comfortable with the above we can Overclocking posting Basic Questions Overclocking. Read to before A Guide continue to attempt a stable OC of your system The very first thing I would like you to do is read your manual Become familiar with the bios menus and where settings are located Each bios and even each bios revision can differ as to where settings are located Giving you detailed instructions on where to find a given setting is just about impossible Next issue the quality of your parts A stable OC is highly dependent on the quality of your parts Do not buy an ECS motherboard cheap ram or an allied power supply and expect to OC your system Buying cheap low quality parts and expecting to overclock the system is like buying a Yugo and expecting it to run like A Basic Guide to Overclocking. Read before posting Overclocking Questions a Cadillac There are two ways to overclock your system Raising the cpu multiplier Works only on cpus that have unlocked multipliers Raising the FSB front side bus Raising the multiplier will up the cpu speed and leave the rest of the system running at stock speed Raising the FSB will up the cpu speed as well as the ram speed the ability of the bus to transfer data etc ie just about everything in your system You will need to decide on which method or combination of methods you want to use For my own system I run a stock multiplier and have increased the FSB to achieve a stable OC of gig on an AMD To overclock with an unlocked multiplier find the bios setting for your cpu multiplier and adjust it up one As an example if you have a gig cpu and your multiplier is FSB up it to Save settings and restart This gives you a gig cpu Now we need to check the stability I use prime for stability tests There are other apps as well you can use AMD Overdrive for AMD systems or you can use OCCT Over Clock Checking Tool In addition have some type of temperature monitoring software Most motherboard makers have some type of monitoring software ie asus probe gigabyte easytune etc I have always liked Hardware Monitor ie HWMonitor for checking temps Start both prime and your temp monitor With prime choose the cpu torture test Let it run for at least minutes If it is stable with no errors AND your temps are within limits you can restart and again enter the bios Up the multiplier again and repeat the test When you find an error you can either back-off to a known stable OC or you can up your vcore cpu voltage and repeat the stability test If it fails after upping vcore you can also adjust the chipset voltage high end motherboards only I always recommend that when adjusting either chipset or cpu voltage go up the minimum amount that you can and test Do understand that upping the vcore or chipset voltage carries a very real risk of damaging the cpu or motherboard Once you find a stable setting for your OC I like to run prime for a longer time Something like hr or longer seems to work fine for me If it runs prime for an hour without errors I would consider it a stable OC This concludes the first method of overclock... Tom’s Hardware readers know all about overclocking, of course. In fact, many processor and graphics card reviews would be deemed incomplete without coverage of overclocking potential. Indeed, articles such as the System Builder Marathon series have a long history of specifically valuing performance achieved through overclocking rather than just through stock performance.

If you already consider yourself an enthusiast, pardon a bit of background here--we'll get into the nitty-gritty technical stuff in just a second.

What exactly is overclocking? In a nutshell, the term is used to describe running a component at a higher speed than its specification in an attempt to increase performance. Various computer components can be overclocked, including the processor, memory, and graphics card. And the degree of overclocking can include anything from simply procuring small gains from an inexpensive component all the way to seeking a level of performance way beyond what could even be purchased at that point in time.

Hi,

I recently ran a scheduled diagnostic test of my PC with the manufacturer's diagnostic software. I received two error messages and the advice to promptly replace my hard drive. The first message was Failed (Error code: WHD20-1VR) and the second was Failed (Error code: WHD16-T57). The apply to Targeted Read test and Smart Short Self Test respectively.

So I ran Chkdsk for the C: drive and received no error messages.

Which is correct and what should I do about it? The error message won't go away on the software.

Thanks for helping.

A:Question: Failed Targeted Read Test and SMART Short Self Test

CHKDSK is a very basic check that mostly checks file system and can be set to scan for bad sectors. The manufacturer's diagnostics actually check the physical drive to make sure its operating within the designed parameters and is more thorough.

You should replace the drive.

I ran the hardware test this morning and everything passed but the SMART short self test. It failed and gave me this code. WHD01V00G-BK7W0J It says to send to Lenovo but I don't know where. I also can't add my laptop to my products on my account. I keep getting a message #WL Service Busy #   What do I do?

hi Smurfette,

Welcome to the Forums.

The image below is the breakdown on how the LSC error codes mean.

The SMART short self-test that failed may have detected some certain sectors on the drive that are bad and predicted an imminent HDD failure so I would recommend you contact the lenovo helpdesk and report your findings as you likely need to send the unit for service.

A:G50 - targeted read test and smart short self test...

Hi there, Naveen-
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

The SMART Self-Test Unit means that the diagnostic utility failed to read some certain sectors on the drive and predicted an imminent HDD failure.

If with the test you did you are getting a SMART test or a smart short test failure then I believe you need to back up your data and be ready to replace the drive.

I recommend you contact Lenovo support and report your findings as you likely need to send the unit for service.

Update us how it goes.

Also you processor may have fried (unlikely)

Maybe a local PC shop can test you video card? If it isnt the card, I will go further with my advice

A:AV-Test Android Test September 2015

There's not a lot of difference between the vendors, except for features, so I personally would not pay for any Android antivirus apps. A very basic app can provide decent protection against unwanted apps. I have recently installed Bitdefender Free on my smartphone, it scans when I download apps from Play Store, all without any bloatware or nag screens, as I have previously experienced in other free apps.

Again, antivirus for Android is optional.

Hi Guys,

Just recently got a Powercolor HD 5850 gpu , and have ran a test on the latest Passmark performance test benchmarking software.

It seems about right on the 3d score with around 2200

But the 2d score is very low at around 320

Is this normal?

Just want to make sure everything is running right with it.

A friend has an Nvidia gtx 275 and its scores like over 900 on the 2d section!

I thought the 2 cards would be pretty much the same if not the HD 5850 being slightly better.

Proberly just me being fussy , but like I say I want to make sure all is right with it , otherwise its going back lol.

Cheers

Paul.

A:Anyone with a HD 5850 run a test on Passmark performance test?

I just ran the 64-bit version of this:
3D overall 2425.5
2D overall 369.2

**edit**
I don't think I like this benchmark. I recently installed the June DirectX redist, so I'm up to date. This thing wanted to, and did install it's own "updated" DirectX files, which I found odd. After I ran the benchmark, I played a little Bad Company 2... had my very first crash to desktop... ever.

Coincidence? Perhaps, but I uninstalled this pos and re-ran the June redist anyway.

Hey I have an old Inspiron B130. Seems the battery is bad, or maybe it's just not charging, or maybe it's just not working in some other way? My question is how can I test?
I don't want to just rush out and buy a new battery without knowing if the laptop battery subsystem is working. The laptop came from a person who "claims" that the battery is actually a new one. I can't verify, so I want to see if I can test the laptop itself.
I wonder if there are wiring diagrams or something where I can just test a few of the pins. Or I wonder if the pins are testable at all without a battery plugged in?

How can I make sure the battery subsystem works before I buy a new battery?

A:Test battery and test output from laptop?

If you can't find any diagrams, just get a multitester, and with power off and pc unplugged, take out the battery and find pos / neg terminals on the computer against the chassis (unless they are labelled on the battery by chance?). Once you know which terminal is which, put the battery in the computer, let it charge (does the charge light come on? I should have asked that before). for a couple hours, unplug it and check the power. You may not see the full 11 volts (at least that's what I think the battery is on that model), but if it's charging, you should always have at least some residual power...

AVG actually has reached 5/5 in its protection in av-test.org it does a great job... better then its ever been.
As far as using. Its a tad lighter and glitching is gone from the UI.

Only reason I skipped AVG is the new browser data share and sell thing. I went Avira in October, then plan to switch from that early next year

Hello,

It has been a couple of months since my desktop computer started to having BSODs, usually when i'm playing.
By now i'm almost certain it is hardware malfunction but can't really narrow out the faulty part.
Things I've already tried:

-Memtest -> No errors
-SSD check -> No errors
-GPU && CPU stress test (not at the same time) -> No crash.
-Formatted 2 times.
-Eye checked and no apparent burned/damaged parts.
-Reinstalled and tried all types drivers.

Would like some help.
Thank you in advance

They work, prime95 stresses CPU, and the best ram test is memtestx86.

I have just jumped up to 4x2bg A-DATA PC2 6400 and am currently running Memtest+86 on my machine (I am at work now). I used to use Prime95 and SP2004 Orthos Edition for CPU and Memory stress testing, is anyone using these with Vista x64?

I will give them a try later and report back but if anyone has any other stress programs that will work with x64 please post them here.
Thanks

A:CPU and Memory Stress

SiSoftware Sandra: SiSoftware Zone is common and has standard benchmarking available.

Super Pi (available all over) is also a standard benchmarking program.

I have/use Everest Ultimate Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management and Prime 95 works on Vista 64 as well. I haven't tried Orthos.

Hey guys,

Wonder if you could help me with this; Recently my computer has been rebooting itself (with no errors or signs, just a straight reboot) whenever i play any games like CS or Unreal tournement 2003/2004. It doesnt happen everytime, but i've noticed it only happens when i play these games, and when i'm not playing any games I've never exp it.

I've talked to my local computer shop who are going to look into this for me, but wants a copy of the games which cause my computer to reboot. Only thing is these games are online, apart from telling him to put the comp online and on these games...

Is there any other software that will put the same kid of stress on my comp that these games normally would? Because i want to see if this will also cause my comp to reboot.

How long do you guys usually run Stress Prime when overclocking? Also, what test do you do, Memory, Cpu, or Blend? For how long? Thanks.

A:Stress Prime

Any system that can run 16-24 hours without errors is stable IMO.

When you're trying to find your maxímum cpu speed you normally would set your RAM at a low divider so your memory won't be holding you back.

There are also alternatives to Prime95 like SysTool.

Anyone know any good (preferably freeware) tools for stress-testing a NIC? An Atheros chipset, specifically, if it makes any difference... I was hoping Atheros might have something but the only support section I could find on their website requires a login...

A:Computer crashing under stress

It`s difficult to be sure from just one minidump.

Your minidump crashes at ntkrnlmp.exe. This is a Windows nt & kernel system file. The owning process is stopsignav.exe, which is part of the eAcceleration software suite programme. This programme is rated as usless. You minidump has a bugcheck of C5.

Uninstall the eAcceleration software suite, and see if it helps.

0x000000C5: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL

An attempt occurred to touch invalid memory at a process IRQL that is too high. This is almost always caused by drivers that have corrupted the system pool. If you?ve recently installed any new software, check to see if it?s properly installed; and check for updated drivers on the manufacturer?s web site.

A:All out shut down (under video stress)

It is always hard to analyse these problems without being there, so if I say anything that is clearly wrong, I apologise in advanced.

First off, the temperatures you stated were taken when your computer was idle, right? The difference between idle and load temperatures is quite staggering. Since modern gfx cards like to cause a lot of heat, when it is under load (when gaming, for example), your computer can really heat up.

You should check your bios to see if you have enabled your computer to automatically shut down if it reaches a certain temperature. If it isn't enabled than chances are that it isn't a heat problem.

I can't think of anything more to contribute than that for now.

Welcome to the forumI've moved your thread to an appropriate forum and changed the subject. In the future, when you need help please give your thread a subject that relates to the problem you are having. Thank you. Please explain what you mean when you say the computer "closes itself". Does it actually power off? And does it only happen when you play one or more specific games?

I just bought a new computer, and I'd like to stress test it to see if it's up to par. There seem to be many programs purporting to do this, but many sound like they do different things. Which one(s) should I use, and what should I know going in?
I'm running a Dell Inspiron 15 5558 with core i7-5500u, 6GB RAM, 1 TB HDD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Stress testing new computer

NovaBench is a free benchmarking program that finds your computer's limits and compares it to other computers. To give you an idea of the overall score you should get (relatively), I have a core i5-4440 with 8 GB of RAM and a mid range GPU and it got a score of around 1400.

i just upgraded from me to win2k, (yeah i know it's "not recommended"), and i am having problems with a few programs.
the first is adaptec (roxio) easy cd creator, and direct cd 4. i know i need to reinstall, but i did something kinda dumb... i uninstalled, but i don't have the cd. i do, but it's a "system recovery cd" that has all the apps on it that were preinstalled at the factory, and win2k won't read it. it says that it was made for me, and can't be read on this computer.
the other program is norton antivirus 2001. same deal here.
does anyone know how to get the win2k versions for these programs? or do i have to buy them again?

A:post upgrade stress

It depends on how you feel about pirated software. You have a legal right to own a copy of Roxio and Norton since your computer came with them (sounds good to me).

Just check any P2P network and you'll be able to find both quite easily....or you can download demos and find cracks/keygens on the web I'm sure.

Greetings all New user so of die I'm stress. to Suspected Rootkit; about I apologise if my post isn t as detailed as needs be I m running Windows Vista I have had various virus and issues over the years Suspected Rootkit; I'm about to die of stress. and whilst Google and forums such as this have normally solved things I m getting seriously frustrated So this all started with a malware infection I think System Restore or something similar Apart from the usual fake pop-ups and warnings the desktop disappeared background icons the drop down bar and also all the programs on my task bar Without thinking I ran MalwareBytes and cleaned up the infected files after restarting in Safe Mode Then I ran another system scan and it came back all clean However everything listed above is still missing though I can now see program files on the start menu I m also getting redirects through all browsers and my files are missing Documents word files etc It was only through continuing to use my laptop that I discovered faults that I initially missed Thus through searching about these symptoms I came to the conclusion that I have a root-kit buried somewhere I have tried to run TDSSKiller but I believe it is being blocked from running So the next thing I did was to run Rkill in Safe Mode w Networking to kill any of the virus processes to enable TDSSKiller to run but here s where I m stuck The Rkill logs are coming back clean I can t seem to find anything else on this subject at least from people describing the combination of issues I m having I would seriously appreciate any advice or tips

I like to use CPz's Hardware Monitor as it shows the low, the high and the current readings of the temps and voltages.

D/L and run Hardware Monitor do something intense like a virus scan or gaming for a bit, Alt+Tab back to HWM expand all the trees and use the Win7 snipping tool to grab a screen shot of the HWM window, post the screen shot using the paperclip button in the advanced message box(Go Advanced button).

Also it may be advantages to run driver verifier to see if you can provoke a BSOD.

Follow the instructions here, make sure to set a restore point before enabling verifier, also if you do not have Windows disk create a Windows repair disk
