I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

well, i built a new pc, specs are p4 lga775 3.4, 915pbl intel mobo, 1 gig of geil pc 4300, 37 gig raptor hdd, x800xl pci express. windows xp pro.

computer ran fine for about 3 weeks, then my game started lagging a little bit but the fps drop during games wasnt drastic, the next day my fps is at 5, 4 and 1. i tried reformatting my computer, since i work at compusa i tried another x800xl pcie video card, i tired 1 stick of ram at a time, but whenever i play any game my fps stays under 5 even with the lowest settings, i ran 3dmark benchtester prog. when i first built pc, an after this problem, i dropped about 3000 in my score. now im pretty sure its my cpu but i ran hardware tests multiple times an its all fine, also my computer runs perfect outside of playing games. any ideas? thanks

Did you load chipset drivers after the reinstallation of XP?

Down by the speaker icon in the taskbar it says no audio device installed.

I installed the realtek drivers on the mobo cd and didnt work. Tryed the updated version on the msi site and same thing.

Keeps giving me an error of 0x000000FF

Im getting really frustrated ive never had a problem installing sound before.

Im like 90% sure i heard a windows beep sound while the cd was installing.

Don't use the drivers on the CD.

Use the one on MSI's site.

Have you tried uninstalling the driver (tick the "Delete drivers" checkbox as well), and then reinstalling the Realtek drivers?

Yello, I'm planning on building a new pc with audio production in mind, but not as the sole use. Thing is I have no idea what mobo to go for and to get dual core or not. Here is my general plan:

AMD CPU
Main drive with Debian.
Secondary drive with two XP partitions, one dedicated to audio work, one for games/anything that won't run on Linux.
1 drive for storage.
M-Audio 2496
Nvidia 7 series, undecided.

I hear some mobo chipsets can be incompatible with pro audio cards. I suppose the main question is what chipset to get. Anybody know anything on the subject?

Well, I've installed latest drivers for Realtek HD Audio in my laptop, ok, it seems work fine, but I think HD Audio really not work fine... it sounds more poor that before, so i've installed R1.92 drivers (it's the drivers who Acer recommend for my Aspire 6930G laptop) but anything work and this causes problem when I reboot or shut down the OS.

I'm going to install R2.14 drivers. I've read that it works with no problems on Windows 7.

ps: Please excuse my limited English. Corrections are welcome.
Thanks.

I have a Sonar (Platinum) studio.

My recommendation when someone asks me about computers is to buy "overkill" or as much as your wallet can stand. This holds true for a DAW workstation or any PC. Thus if it were me and is no object I would go with the 6700.

AMD 64 X2 chip

anyone know of any working audio driver?
i got a beta nForce SLI AMD Audio Driver from nzone but it didn't work.

if i can't get it to work, i'm going to format my vista partition and try it all over but with the 32bit version.

Vista's internal video driver recognized my 6600GT with no problems, everything runs sooo smooth. my only holdback is the harddrive that i am using for my Vista partition.

I've been using W7 since initial Beta on my HTPC with no issues until I went to RC 7100 build. Since then, I've had NO TrueHD sound output from the HTPC to my AVR. All other audio sources work (DTS-MA, DD, etc.) just not TrueHD. Info in both TMT and PDVD show the audio source as TrueHD; however, no sound is actually transmitted. Does anyone know if this is still an issue in the latest builds? Has anyone tried it? I rip my Blu-Rays onto my HTPC for ease of use (near one-click to play functionality) so they're all in Blu-Ray folder or .iso format with only the main video, HD Audio and main subtitles.

A:build 7264 and TrueHD audio problem

Well, I upgraded to build 7264 and no fix for the issue. Still no TrueHD sound from Blu-Ray's. Interesting. I may consider a clean install; however, has anyone else experienced this? I was wondering if it's just my system or an actual issue in W7.

A:New Build but cant get HDMI audio device to show up

You need to connect TV to GPU instead of MB. APU graphic drivers are different from drivers for discrete GPUs and incorporate sound drivers for HDMI output and have nothing to do with on-board sound on MB.
If you want to use on board graphics and sound, you'll have to get drivers for it, being an Intel based board, it needs own drivers for that part, AMD drivers can't regulate that. Also check Sound section in Control Panel and mark appropriate output as default.

Ok so i have build 1041 and beats audio installed for my hp envy 6t and the beats audio works but not the equalizer. moving it up and down does nothing.
also i notice that in skype calls if i enable beam forming in mic settings all audio and microphone black out and stop working until i disable beam forming and exit any program that used mic or speakers and wait for a couple of seconds.

similar issue in build 10074.
but now beats EQ is not accurate, i have bass all the way up and it treats it like 25%, really low bass, treble seems ok.
and overall the sound quality is bad sounds muffled

Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 to Build 7601?

An Icon Pack was saying install on to 7600 only and after I checked my regedit, I learned that I have 7601 (Probably SP1, I don't know).

Would I have any problems if I install the icon pack?

Thanks.

A:Can I install Icon Packs designed for Build 7600 on to Build 7601?

You can normally install icons anywhere you like, on any machine or system which uses them, they are merely small graphics of various types. Unless the "Icon-pack" is using software to install something else, ( in which case be careful what it does), you can install it anywhere.

Some "Icon-packs" make extensive changes to system files, are dependent on the system to which they are installed, and best avoided.

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. A:Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

It won't activate and you will end up in Safe Mode permanently. One machne = one license. You need to buy another full version. But you can do it if you don't use 7 on the old machine. You will just have to activate by phone and explain. Then if you go online with both, one will deactivate and go to Safe Mode.

Hi and Welcome to TSG,
Not sure I can help much, but those that might be able to guide you probably need to know:
- model/type of Dell
- operating system
- when did the problem start

Are you able to boot into 'safe mode' - that might give you more options when help arrives.

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I'm trying to partion and format a drive. I boot from XP CD and get to the screen that gives use the options to partion, delete, etc. Underneath the selections is a flashing message saying " CANNOT ACCESS DRIVE 1 ". I don't know what to do!!!!
Any suggestions???

A:Frustrated!!!

The drivers for Recovery Console load off of the CD into RAM. If it can't access the hardrive, you may want to enter the BIOS and see if it is listed in there. If it isn't, try updating the BIOS and check all of the connections, jumpers. At the worst, maybe the hardrive is toast!

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

* Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
* Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
* When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
o Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* Then click Finish.

MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

* If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.

On the Scanner tab:

* Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
* Then click on the Scan button.
* If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
* The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
* When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
* Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.

Back at the main Scanner screen:

* Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
* The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
* Exit MBAM when done.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

** If Malwarebytes Anti-Malware results in any error messages, please refer to Fixes for common problems and Error Codes. Some issues with errors can be related to malware infection but others are not.

Hmm it didn't post right for some reason but you get the idea i hope

Hi, dawnlopez.

Welcome.

First, Download LSPFix.exe to a convenient location. Do NOT run this program. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing NewDotNet.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains (anything that says New.Net)

If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: NewDotNet Removal Procedure 4.

In the event that you lose Internet access after removing New.Net, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. Check the "I know what I'm doing" button. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish>>" then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the program. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

Download new.netfix.exe by noahdfear. Save the file to your desktop. Double click, then click Start to extract the contents to it's own folder. Open the folder and double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts and post the contents of the new.net.txt file it creates in the folder.

and welcome to the Forum

I would run diagnostics on the drive to rule out drive failure:

You can do that using a working pc to download Seatools and making a bootable disc. Do the short and long test.

If either test fails, the drive needs to be replaced.

See this for how to make a bootable cd:

Bottom of the screen, above the clock, set the % that you want. It will give larger or smaller screen size. Do when in IE.

I doubt if someone has taken over your pc. Your mousepad is too sensitive and thats probably why your cursor is jumping around, hook up an external keyboard and mouse to your laptop and test. Install CCleaner and see if it will remove any unwanted programs.

Did you install all of your drivers after installing XP? To check, go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. If you see red X's or yellow !'s then it's likely that the drivers aren't installed.

Visit the support site of the manufacturer of your PC (or the support site of the motherboard manufacturer if it's a custom build) to download the missing drivers.

Finally tonight the monitor stopped working because it said it was not receiving a signal.
The computer comes on but I do not see anything on the monitor.

I believe it is an overheating issue. It did not appear that the fan was spinning in the back recently
to cool off the internal components of the computer.

Is this a major problem? What do you suggest?

When you try to run chkdsk /f on the system partition you should get an error message similar to that shown in the attachment. Respond with the letter y and the check should be run the next time you boot.

Hi,

I'm using Win XP Home. My problem is, when I am on the computer, sometimes it just stops working. To make it work again, I have to hit Alt-Del-Ctrl. Then I click all of of the Tabs that are in the Task Manager, then close it and it working again.

When I click the Tab "Processor" it has a lot of things active, and I do not know what has to be there and what shouldn't be there.

I just built a new system a week ago with a antec truepower 2.0 550 watt psu, 7900GTX, foxconn 590 sli mobo, am2 4000+ windsor at 2.0 havent over clocked it, 2 gigs of Corsair pc6400 ddr2 800. everythings is cooled fine got 8 fans running in all. sata 320 gb hard drive and I see less performance then my other system which was good but not as good as this one as it had a 7800gt, an amd 939 3700+ at 2.2. an IDE 200 hdd and an asus sli premium with 2 gigs of ram and same psu

Everything on my desktop opens quicker but at the same settings I seem to be getting less fps in css

I wanna think its my processor frequency as its 200 mhz slower than my last one

Would appreciate any help!
thanks!

A:Little frustrated

when you upgrade to something that is only marginally faster - you are going to have to tweak settings to see a real difference. Check the timings on your ram, and also check the actual RAM speed - saw an article on toms about the funky ratio's that can actually run your ram slower depending on the processor you use.

A:I've Never Been This Frustrated Over A Pc

A virus could potentially mess up your recovery partition.
Do you have the original operating system disks?

If you have time and the inclination, you can download and run malwarebytes.
Can you install AVG in safe mode?
Do you know what virus(es) you have?

If you cannot create a recovery disk and you do not have media to restore your operating system, you might call the manufacturer to see if they will ship the OS for a nominal fee.

Hi i'm having a problem with my Acer Aspire One notebook....It came with windows 7 starter and i installed home premium with this product key and now it's telling me that this copy of windows is not genuine? can i uninstall it and go back to starter?

A:frustrated

Yes that is correct, the key for starter only works for starter. you should be able to install starter edition again and use the key, or you could reinstall using a recovery disk. If you have one you could follow this procedure:
Restoration procedure:

1. Press the power button to turn the system on.

2. Select to boot from a USB optical drive. There are two ways to do this:

2.1. Press <F2> during the Power-On Self-Test (when the Acer logo is displayed onscreen after bootup) to enter BIOS Setup.

2.1.2. Refer to onscreen instructions to set the first device to any bootable optical disc drive.

2.2. Press <F12> during the Power-On Self-Test (when the Acer logo is displayed onscreen after bootup), and select the USB ODD from the list that appears.

3. Ensure the Recovery disc is in an external (USB) optical disc drive, and exit the boot selection menu, by selecting Exit Saving Changes from the Exit menu or pressing <F10>, or by pressing <Enter> as appropriate.

4. Select Exit Saving Changes from the Exit menu or press <F10>.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.

6. When you finish the recovery process, please remove the Recovery disc and insert the System disc again.

Okay, I just wiped my HD and did a clean installation of Windows XP Professional.

I am trying to optimize it for video capture and cannot find any way to enable UDMA on my HDs. The "Advanced Settings" tab that's supposed to be there in the Program Manager isn't.

my PC setup:

Celeron II 1 ghz oc'd to 1.25 ghz
PNY GEForce3 ti200
ASUS TUSL2-C Mobo
Intel 815 EP Chipset
512mb PC133 SDRAM
SB Live! 5.1 sound
WD 60 GB 7200 RPM HD
WD 40 GB 7200 RPM HD
Pinnacle DC10+ Video Capture
... and some other stuff that's the same as everyone else's
Running XP Professional

Anyone with any ideas of what's going on - lemme know.

A:New to XP and already getting frustrated.

To enable DMA you need to go into Device Manager and bring up the properties for the IDE contrillers and set it to "DMA if available" there.

ok, so i seem to be having a little problem on my Hp laptop. When connected to the internet i am only able to open certain websites. Websites such as hotmail and MSN do not load and i cannot sign into my msn messenger. Its very frustrating considering i cannot open hotmail to view my emails, some of which i need for work. When i type in these websites in the bottom left corner of the window it just says website found waiting... and the little green loading bar moves ever so slow and eventually the window says internet explorer cannot display the webpage. As i stated my laptop is a Hp pavilion entertainment pc, runing windows vista home. my internet connection is broadband using a ovislink ADSL modem. I have downloaded HJT and scanned my computor and saved the log.

I'm a bit frustrated. I have this bleeping 'cansew' thing on my computer, which is very annoying, and I found this Hijack link here. I downloaded it, and now I have a worm virus that I can't get rid of. I ran my McAfee scan, and I couldn't do anything to it because it came up infected, but when I tried to delete it, clean it or remove it, It said 'file not found'. So, now, not only can I not find the new virus, but I still have that stupid blinking 'cansew'. Any suggestions??

I bought 8 gigs of ram today DDR2 but 800 speed and installed them. I also got a 16 gig flash drive with Windows 7 Ultimate 64/32 on it.

Old system was Vista 32 bit, which requires me to do a clean install with Windows 7. I think my rig can handle 64 bit. Also, I believe it's worth mentioning that my vista installation had two partitions on my hard drive. One was a recovery of 10 gigs and the other was the actual installation.

I installed Windows 7 over the actual installation partition (thus leaving the recovery unnafected) and it all went well until it finished installing and rebooted. Then a GATEWAY background came and suddenly there is this system recovery options menu...... it wont let me do squat. I cant restore, fix, repair, nothing!!!

I'm thinking this might be because the other partition (which still has windows vista 32 bit on it) is trying to boot up as well an causing an issue.

Guys, I really need help with this, I'm desperate and have spent the last 8 hours on this.... Anyone? Please?

Hi and welcome
I am a bit confused as to where you are and what you want to do.
First if you are trying to install an OS remove all the ram but 2 gigs

Second where did you get your win 7? since it does not come n flash drive it might not be a working copy

Third--did you format the partition that you want to install on?

etc

Okay, I bought a packard bell legend 201. It's a 486sx with 8mb of onboard ram. I added 32 mgs of ram. The system had win 3.1 installed which worked fine. I tried to install win 95 on a bigger, newer hard drive (maxtor) but I keep getting the message "vfat initialixation failed". I'm unsure of the motherboard type, and the bios is pheonix v1.0. I'm starting to feel like maybe the bios won't accept the newer, bigger hard drive. I don't think the old hard drive will hold win 95 and office 97. Can anyone help with this.

One of the best things you can do when problems begin suddenly like that is just do a System Restore, that's what it is for.

However if you want to preserve recently installed programs and possibly not reinstall cleaned items, give us a copy/paste of a Hijackthis scanlog and we will see what issues stand out.

Ok I use dial up because I live in the middle of nowhere and that is the only thing I can get... My problem is some were I seem to have downloaded a program that when ever i try to open a page and it take a lil time it is auto directed to Incredafind.com which is a search engine. This is becoming a bit of a problem considering that if even this site has a lil traffic and it is a bit slow it redirects me. It sometimes takes me three or four times to get to a web page.. I have checked the control panel for a program and do not see one. If any one knows what this is from and how to get rid of it i would be a much more sane person...

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AOL Messenger] AOLMSNGR.EXE

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyBlast] C:\Program Files\SpyBlast\SpyBlast.exe /autorun

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [AOL Messenger] AOLMSNGR.EXE

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\AOLMSNGR.EXE

Delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\SpyBlast

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK.
Empty the Recycle Bin
Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.
Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the exact file name and file location so you can delete it yourself.
To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

Try uninstalling the drivers for the SD card that you installed, then reboot and reinstall them if that fails do a system restore and install them again. That might help you.

Ok so I was having trouble installing The Sims 2 on my computer, so EA Tech suggested copying the cd's to my computer and installing it that way. It told me to save the cd's to my computer and then click Autorun.exe to start the windows installer. But when I click Autorun.exe it tells me to insert disk 1 into the computer. I thought the point of saving the cd's to my computer was so I didn't have to use the cd's to install the game. How do I get the game installed now that I have all of the files saved on my computer??
