MSN.COM Certificate Error

Q: MSN.COM Certificate Error

FYI: For those dependent upon MSN.COM, today the website certificate is no longer valid,
as shown in the attached JPG.

Your A/V program may respond differently, but Avast! found the error and offers two solutions:
1) PUNT, ie abandon the access
2) accept the cert and make an exception for this error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I am trying to resolve an issue where multiple client computers in the organisation are using an internally deployed Root CA certificate (before my time and no longer required) to sign the end entity certificate for external websites, google.co.uk
for example. All SSL sites appeared to be affected by this.

However this is not the case as sub domains of sites with issues show the correct cert chain, the below is for mail.google.com

Removing or untrusting this root ca cert breaks access to these sites.

I have reset root certs in various ways, removed machines from the domain, applied no GPOs, manually updated CRL and pulled down updated certs with rootsupd.exe.
It always attempts to use this rouge CA cert to sign the websites cert.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I am trying to install CA root certificate on Windows 7, IE 9.
Encounter error: "Untrusted Certificate".  "This certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certificate authority."
I have tried to install the certificate to Trusted Root Certificate Authorities->local computer and import was successful. BUT on IE->Internet Options->Certificate->Trusted Root Certificate Authorities, I am unable to find this root CA on
the list.
On mmc->Certificates->Trusted Root Certificate Authorities->certificates, I am able to view this root CA.
I then restarted the IE and view the ssl site again but failed too, "Untrusted Certificate".
Anyone, any idea ?
Regards,
Eye Gee

A:Unable to Install Root CA Certificate - Certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certificate authority.

May the following workarounds work for you:
Workaround 1:
Modify the Windows settings to allow the Update Root Certificate feature to update the root certificates automatically. For details, see the following Microsoft TechNet article:
Certificate Support and Resulting Internet Communication in Windows Server 2008
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771121(WS.10).aspx
Workaround 2?
If the Update Root Certificate feature cannot automatically update the root certificates, you may contact the website vender to see if there is a hotfix can fix the issue.

Is there a rvkroots.exe available for download for the mentioned KB so that I can remediate a Nessus finding?
We are on a disconnected network so windows update is disabled in our network.
In the past we are able to just download rvkroots.exe and push it out to all our Win7 computers.

Hello. I use Internet Explorer, uploaded new IE9 hoping it would fix this problem but it has not. Recently, in the past month or so I have been trying to access a website I used to be able to view. It has always had a certificate error/navigation blocked - but I have always been able to click continue to this website (not recommended) and I was able to get to it by doing that. Nothing happens when I click on it now. I am able to access the website through my laptop, so it is not the website - it's something else. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Hi Having some fun with a windows setup of DirectAccess have it configured to use ECC certificates on the client for the IPSec authentication which was working brilliantly we even have it loaded up behind a Citrix Netscaler to do SSL offloading of the HTTPS tunnel encryption But when trying to get Client Preauthentication working we hit a snag it seems that the NetScalers dont support ECC certificates which is a pain but something we thought we could work around by using an RSA certificate on the client to performed the pre-authentication as shown here nbsp https directaccess richardhicks com directaccess-ip-https-preauthentication-using-citrix-netscaler So we have three CA's CA issue RSA certs and CA is setup to do the ECC ones so nice separation of the chains So we have our Cert chain for RSA loaded into the load balancer and a new cert issued to the ECC when installed Certificate Client Authentication RSA certificate ignored client from CA But Client Certificate Authentication RSA certificate ignored when ECC installed every time the client connects to the server LB we see the handshake taking place the server sends a list of its Client Certificate Authentication RSA certificate ignored when ECC installed DNs CA https blogs msdn microsoft com kaushal client-certificate-authentication to the client but then the client looks in its store picks out the ECC certificate issued from CA and fails to authenticate saying no suitable certificate can be found its like its not even looking at the RSA one at all So thinking something was wrong with the way the LB was asking for client authentication Client Certificate Authentication RSA certificate ignored when ECC installed I tried deleting the ECC cert and tried again this time the client completes the handshake finds the RSA cert and passes it back to the LB for authentication So im left wondering why my Windows client is trying to use a Cert issued by a CA which isnt in the list of DN's sent by the LB nbsp To add insult to this issue trying this same scenario on Windows seems to work out of the box with an ECC cert and RSA cert in the Computer personal store the client looks and chooses the RSA one authenticates and continues through the process of connecting

The company I work for manages the internet for a number of companies and we often remote in to the routers and gateways to make changes. For some reason, there are 2 types of gateways that Chrome has trouble with. One of them will never open and the other gateway opens with an SSL error once, then won't every time after that. If I log off the computer and back on, then Chrome allows me to open 1 more gateway before it stops working again.

However, internet explorer can easily open both of these types of gateways and as many as I want. Is there a setting that I can change or is this something Google has to fix themselves?

For the past few weeks, I'm getting all these error codes and have NO clue why? They are to sites I use every day. One moment I can access the sights and next moment I get the error codes.

I've run the Windows Repair Disk, CClean, Malwarebytes and Spybot and nothing I've done has helped. Any ideas will be appreciated because I've gotten a rotten headache again today trying to figure this out.

If I recall, I think it all started when the Babylon Toolbar forced it's way onto my computer. I have no idea how I got it but I believe it's been deleted....and not even sure if that is the start of the problems/ I just remember having to delete it and then got these others problems afterwards. Whether there is a connection or not, I don't know. Please help!

Hello,
I have been using Netscape (7 and before) for decades for my email. Also for a long time, Verizon has been my email provider. I just upgraded to a new PC with Win 8.1, and installed NS 7 on it to continue using verizon email. However, even with the settings the same as on the old PC (XP), I cannot retrieve the email. The attempt to go to the POP3 server gives me a NS message: "Could not establish connection, because the certificate presented by pop.verizon.net is invalid or corrupted -8182". I did check in NS Preferences-->PrivacyAndSecurity-->Validation not to use OCSP for certificate validation, among several other things. Anyone experienced the same? Thanks in advance, Ziggi.

Hello eggway,

Here's my thought. Given that the problem began when you installed that root certificate thing, I would suggest a system restore choosing a time and date just before you installed that file. You will need to redo any other software or computer updates as well as redoing any software installations or uninstallations that you have done between then and now. Everything else will be fine.

Let us know if that works.

A:Ie7 Security Certificate Error

Hello eggway and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.IE7 handles security differently than prior versions. The rules are more strict when dealing with secure sites. More than likely the site(s) you rae trying to access have self-signed security certificates and not certificates obtained from trusted certificate authority. You can check with those websites to verify that. Here is a link to Microsoft's instructions on dealing with this warning message: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931850 . If you need further assistance I would suggest posting in the Web Browsing/Email and Other Internet Applications forum. The techs there can help with browser related issues.Cheers.OT

Hi Junkieweb,

Can you provide a screenshot of the error and certificate window from both IE and FX? Its hard to know what the real issue is without more information or without seeing the actual error

Hi, my computer is having internet certificate problems on internet explorer and google chrome. It's only with popular websites like facebook. It has no problems with websites like this. Any ideas?

A:internet certificate error

Hi camsnapshot,

What certiciate error are you getting? Are you getting the "Untrusted site, do you want to accept this sites certificates?" or is it just denying you access. Could you please get back to us with a screenshot attached to your next post or a full problem description/error message.

My yahoo program works ok except for email. When I click on the email icon, I get the following message:
"The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different websites address."

Then it gives me a choice to still retrieve my mail with a warning.

Is this a problem at Yahoo's end or at mine. Is there something I should check?
Internet Explorer is 32 bit while Windows 7 is 64 bit. Does this make a difference?

A:Yahoo Mail Certificate Error

I think I solved it. Under tools and the advanced tab, I scrolled down to Security to where it states:
"Warn about certificate address mismatch".
I unchecked it and now the certificate error does not appear.
There is no evidence that my computer has been hacked or has a virus and this particular error is suspected of being no more then a false positive brought on by "Yahoo".

When I go on websites that require a login and password, Vista typically stops me with the message "certificate errror navigation blocked". Additional text says Vista does not recommend continuing." In a few cases, it provides a option to continue, but in most , it provides no way to continue to a legit website.

I need to get to my banking and airline sites. How do I tell Vista that a website is legit?

I tried searching this forum (and others) but didn't find anything - so here goes:
I logged into my PayPal account (IE10) without any trouble but when I attempted to navigate its site I received security certificate error warnings.
I contacted PayPal who told me to change my cookie setting to 'accept all cookies'.
I didn't believe it, but I tried anyway and was not surprised when it didn't fix the problem. Any advice folks?
BTW. I've never had this problem in the past.

Hi, florina, and welcome to the forums.

I understand that this is an error message, but how many times has it occurred? What are you hardware specs? What software do you have installed? What antivirus, antimalware and antispam do you have installed? have you scanned with those? Can you post a screen shot of the error? If you need help using the snipping tool to create a screen shot see How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista

In general just post info about the error message is not going to be helpful enough, because we need to know what you were doing, what caused the error, and the frequency of the error, and if it is reproducible.

some body help

A:certificate error: navigation blocked

it's kind of strange. usually the cert error occurs only when u have INSTALLed some firewall or antivirus program.

The problem Explained:
The root of this problem is probably something like this: your software blocked the certificate validation session when SSL negotiation is undergoing. Your browser then detects the mismatch of certificate and show you the navigating warning.
So, every https site you are visiting can result in such error.

Solution:
currently, no good solution can be presented due to lacking of essential information.
However, if u believe it's caused by the uninstalling, try to re-install it and reset all settings in BitDefender. Then test whether the problem is gone.

Hi

I recently had a very nasty infection (zlob dns changer) Which was apparently a rootkit. I don't actually know what a rootkit is but I was made to understand that it is very bad.

I got a lot of help, first from stang777 and then from Dachew. Dachew helped me for four days until we (he) finally eliminated the rootkit.
I can not sing the praises of him and this forum enough.

I am getting an error message on boot which I assume is related to the former rootkit. It says:

validation failed for c\windows\system 32\ vsinit.dll. you are probably missing a necessary root certificate.

Other than getting the message my computer seems to be working normally.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on what it means and what to do about it.

I hope I posted this in the right place, I am still learning how to use this forum.

Hello, I went to install Google Chrome and the following appeared on IE9 "Do you want to run this application?" It then says it is from, "dl.google.com". I clicked on publisher -> details -> basic constraints and it had a yellow error symbol. The following were in the box, "Subject Type=End Entity
Path Length Constraint=None". Then go to Certification Path and it says, "The issuer of this certificate could not be found". Can I ask what's going on here? Is it OK to continue the installation or has the .exe being altered with?
P.S. I went onto the Google Forums for some support, but I have had no response in 14 hours. So thought I'd post it here since I always get a helpful reply.

A:dl.google.com certificate security error

Are you saying you were downloading Chrome with IE, and IE asked if you want to continue? Where did you initiate the download? http://dl.google.com/ redirects to https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/, which is the legitimate Chrome download site. If in doubt, this download is safe:

Download Google Chrome 20.0.1132.47 - FileHippo.com

But I'd say the 1st download was also ok, why the certificate error I am unsure, perhaps because of the dl.google.com source.

Windows 8.1 with all patches. 64-bit  Domain joined.
Months ago I installed the PowerShell 5 preview.  Noticed there was a newer release available, so I downloaded it.  WindowsBlue-KB3055381-x64.msu.  When I run this update, I get this:

I went through all the certs on my system.  I did find two expired certificates.  One was for Microsoft code signing and the other was for an Intel wireless device.  I deleted the expired code signing cert thinking it might have something
to do with it.  Rebooted the system.  Still get this error.  Any ideas?  I would like to get the update because I have found a couple issues with the current preview I have installed, and on another system that does have the latest update,
I am not seeing the issues.
Thanks.

then i install outlook and set it up with gmail imap
then i get server cirtifacate error i tryed uninstalling outlook but it did not help
so now its just on ie8 dose anyone know how to fix or disable this

A:Certificate error on IE8 and in Outlook 2007

You could just add an exception. The service for my school e-mail is stupid, because the school basically created its own certificate, which is unrecognized by any web browser. So you have to ignore the error or add an exception to access mail.

So hey guys, at one point my computer decided to lock up and I did a reset. So when I went to open the browser and restore my tabs, Half of them are coming up with certificate errors.
These are the messages.

1 There is a problem connecting securely to this website, click here to close this webpage
2. There is a problem with this websites security certificate, click here to continue (not recommended) or click here to close (This happens a lot when google searching...)

So short of uninstalling and reinstalling, does anyone have any fixes for this? (I have provided the screenshots of the errors as well)

EDIT: ok Issues been escalated, its happening on all brwosers. I just tried on steams browser while gaming it wouldn't load google its default home page. Then i opened firefox and tried google and got the connection is untrusted. Screenshot given.

Everytime I go on Facebook on my phone, I always get this error message: server certificate subject cn do not match domain name cn: a248.e.akamai.net CN:GTE CyberTrust Global Root. Before it popped up twice, but now it's three times, and recently it's now not just facebook but one other site that popped a similar message starting today.

I don't know what this means, nor how to stop the error message from popping up again. So any help would be appreciated. If phone info such as type and model is needed, just ask.

Hi

For the last week, I am getting the error msg pop up below whenever I open PostBox mail reader.  Doesn't appear to affect anything - just annoying.  Plus I worry that it might be some type of malware.
I am running Windows 7 Home.

Thanks for any help.
Rich_G

This is the error msg pop up:

Server connection failed
stats.g.doubleclick.net:443 uses an invalid security certificate
The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is not trusted
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
This could be a problem with the server's' configuration or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
If you have connected to this server successfully in the past the error may be temporary and you can try again later.

A:Certificate error pop up when I open mail reader

This issue isn't indicative of malware. What it means is that the website or server is not authenticating properly with it's SSL certificate or has an invalid certificate.

What this means for you is that you cannot trust the connection. You should not use it for sensitive information or banking of any form.

Here is more info on SSL certificates.

Hi there

If you are running a Linux VM and want to install Calibre it's easily done and this method means you don't need to have a root certificate (standard method throws up "Certificate Error").

simply from command line in most distros :

sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ko...x-installer.py | sudo python -c "import sys; main=lambda x:sys.stderr.write('Download failed\n'); exec(sys.stdin.read()); main('/opt')"

Ensure python is installed.

Works fine just like the Windows version.

Since I have far more HDD space on my Linux VM's than the windows host seems great that this very useful program works on Linux.

I needed to get this working as eventually the library will be moved to my NAS servers.

Cheers

Hello acomputernewprogram I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with one of these just skip it and move on to the next one.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Delete.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.-Junkware-Removal-Tool-Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. When they are complete let me have the two reports and let me know how things are running.Gringo

Something I have tried after a bit of research, changing the address of the problem page. I have Outlook as the first (home page) of one of three tabs that open with IE. I copy and pasted the address from the browser header into notepad for reference and then accessed Outlook via the link from Bings page. Again I copy and pasted the address and compared the two. Different ! So I have now set IE up to use the 'new' address. I'll keep you posted

Under "Content" in Internet Options, are all your certificates there? Mine are. Either your Admin. or the issuer should have your answer. Some PKFs are not compatible with all OSs or Browsers. Try downloading certificates to Firefox or Chrome and see if that works.

This changes effect lots of our IE user when they try to access our webpage, but some are not effected by this issue. I've noticed that our webpage log come out like this:-

Is there anything to do with CGI Header? What is it? Is it cause by some kind of improvement on IE browser?

Hi guys i really need help
I can't get rid of security certificate error. It happened because i accidentally set wrong date in BIOS (i wasn't using it about 3 month and CMOS batter was dead therefore it asked me to enter the date). I still get that error almost on any web page i enter (on all browsers:Firefox, Opera, IE9).
Please help me to solve this problem, cause its annoying to click Continue to this website (not recommended) on IE or add exception on Firefox.

And also can it be a firewall or antivirus issue? I've Nod32 ESS x64 installed.

I've been tried to format the system ( C: ) and installing fresh copy of windows again, scan using Avira and Malwarebytes, but no luck. FYI, my date and time is correct.

Hi guys,

I had installed this mapping tool before applying all the Windows Updates and I got this Untrusted Certificate warning error as shown in the image.

Now, I had reinstalled Windows 10 and ran all the updates and then installed this tool which is a NON-Web version, meaning its a program that runs on the desktop but gathers all the mapping data from Bing Maps and so forth.
After when I launched it this time, that message DOES NOT appear now.

So clearly, it had something to do with a Windows Update that updates all Root Certificates.
But the issue is, I really need to know which update is it so next time I can install this Windows Update myself manually.

Anyone know?

Many thanks!

A:Solved: Trouble installing digital certificate - No PKCS#10 CSR generated. (error)

Did you submit the CSR to the CA? Or are you simply trying to install an arbitrary cert?

What's the certificate for? IIS? Host cert?

I keep getting security certificate "accept/reject" error messages while surfing pages on Opera and IE and it even shows up on Pidgin! What's goin' on did I install a tweaking app or somethin'.How do I fix this thnx.Oh and my comp freezes sometimes too,vga corruption the screen gets all garbled,I'd love to keep my comp on all day,so I'd appreciate some help on that too.I would accept the freezing (vga corruption) as a monitor prob (I bought this monitor second-hand a few months ago),and I did complain, but the storekeeper dismissed it as a cpu problem,so now I'm messed up.Nvm I got firefox and it fixed my myspace login and a whole bunch of certificate error msgs.

Hi! I'm new here so sorry if this is in the wrong section... I just got my sony vaio laptop and it has wondows seven on it. I can see the green bar going up and down indicating that my sound is on, but I do not hear anything. Also everytime I try to go to a website it says certificate error and even when I click Proceed to this website it shows no graphics. IS there any way to get rid of that anti virus feature? THE MODEL NUMBER OF MY COMPUTER IS "VPCEB15FX" Also, a fast response is needed. I'm leaving for vacation on the 15th and need this fixed by then. Thanks!

A:No sound on Sony vaio Windows 7 and "Certificate Error"

Hello,

Try looking in the device manager under sound and video game controllers, You will need to click on the box with the X inside of it to expand the tree. Look for anything with either a red or yellow marking, these will be errors or warnings. You can usually right click on these and go to properties to see what the problem is. It may be a driver issue.

Start>Right click on my computer>Manage>Device manager.

Hope this helps!

Hi everyone, my first post.

Just bought a used IBM T41 Thinkpad, which I have to say I'm more than satisfied with. Everything seems to be working fine, however I've yet to have it working on wireless lan. The signal is there, with the little ball swinging it's heart out in the icon tray. Problem is, I get this message coming up all the time saying: "No Certificate has been found". I thought at first that it just meant that I needed to put my DSL code in, but it appears that's not enough.

On further checking in the WLAN properties menu there is a certificate listed with the name "C&W HKT Securnet CA Root", with an expiry date 16.10.2010. When I try to uncheck the button that's next to it, it won't allow me.

Does anyone have any solutions for this?

Many thanks.......!

Hey everyone I have somewhat of a puzzling problem and I'd very much appreciate some leads as to what's causing it For the past few months maybe longer I've been having spoadic internet connectivity issues My service is AT amp T and I have a Wire modem although I'm not sure that has anything to do with it I'm beginning to wonder if it has to do with my browser or a problem with my computer's setup itself What happens is multiple times every hour seemingly at random no programs can establish a secure internet connection for error not "Certificate Random is valid" a couple minutes Skype calls drop online games freeze pages stop loading that sort of thing If I try to open my browser again Chrome mainly but it happens on all of them it tells me that the certificate of the page I'm trying to reach is invalid My homepage is Google though so I know that's not true I basically have to keep opening and closing my browser until that Random "Certificate is not valid" error finally stops coming up and then everything will connect to the internet again Considering the large amount Random "Certificate is not valid" error of time I spend in Skype calls or Google Plus meetings this is very infuriating to deal with and nothing I'm finding online about the problem seems relevant Any ideas

A:Random "Certificate is not valid" error

Apologies for the bump, but I managed to replicate the problem and get a screenshot of exactly what it says, in case that helps at all.
