I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello We are going to be purchasing a lot of HP Z Tower Workstations from our supplier in the future and I have been given one to QA in our environment nbsp We currently use HP BCU to make available and enable the TPM on our current HP systems We are using version of HPBCU Today Workstation HP TPM PPI Z240 I have downloaded version of the HPBCU to begin creating a configuration file for the new Z workstations nbsp The problem I have is that the TPM PPI physical presence settings are nowhere to be found in the UEFI BIOS firmware user interface What we want to do is suppress the prompt that would allow users to deny HP Z240 Workstation TPM PPI modifications This is was possible in previous incarnations of HPBCU on different models of workstation in the form of the following setting nbsp Embedded Security Activation Policy nbsp nbsp F to Boot nbsp nbsp Allow user to reject nbsp nbsp No prompts nbsp Unfortunately this is not in the file created using on the Z and as I said nothing appears in the user interface I have checked under Security gt TPM Embedded Security but the only options I see there are TPM Device and TPM State nbsp Is it possible to configure the physical presence settings on this model of workstation using HPBCU If not then I will need to reccommend an appropriate alternative make HP Z240 Workstation TPM PPI model where it is possible nbsp We deploy scripts that run HPBCU through configmgr SCCM and can't have this prompt annoying our users and potentially allowing them to deny the change nbsp We also can't have technicians HP Z240 Workstation TPM PPI visit every Z to configure this manually Our I T estate is fairly large at computers so automatic management is crucial to us nbsp Any help would be massively appreciated nbsp Many ThanksC Solved View Solution

I just got a HP Z240 Tower with a 400W power supply, 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB M.2 SSD. Is the GeForce GTX 970 Graphics card compatible? My PCIe v3 x16 slot is available.
Greetings, The 400 power supply could be an issue. A stock GTX 970 lists a recommended 500 watt power supply. You have to verify the 10.1 inch to 10.5 inch card will fit in your chassis. You should have the required UEFI BIOS if the system is brand new and you have a PCIe x16 3.0 slot available on the system board. I am trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Z240 SFF workstation but when I boot from the Windows 7 USB media, it does not show the HDD even though it is connected. it would be great if someone could help me out with this issue. Thanks in advance.
Hello matt_william, If you are using a retail version of Windows 7 Operating System. You may have to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver while installing the OS. On the HDD partition windows, you will get LOAD DRIVER option, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Please find below link to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8323799&swItemId=wk_156996_1&swEnvOid=405... NOTE: THIS ACTIVITY NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON ANOTHER UNIT. TO USE THE INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY DRIVER DURING A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Navigate to C:\SWSETUP\SP73487 and unzip "f6flpy-x64.zip" to a USB key for a 64-bit installation. 4. Use the newly created driver installation media during operating system setup to install the drivers. Once you copy the driver on another USB media, connect it with unit on which you are trying to install OS. Click on Load Driver and navigate to USB and install the driver. Once the installation is complete, You will be able to access HDD and will be able to install OS. I hope that answers your question. Hi all, I got a Z240 SFF workstation with a 512G HP Z Turbo Drive G2 intalled on M.2 slot as a boot drive. I recently add a 1.2T Intel 750 PCIe SSD on PCIe slot 4 for additional storage. However after the Intel 750 SSD was intalled, the computer began to shutdown automaticly after couple of minutes running. The issue will be fixed after remove the Intel 750 SSD. The system is running 64bit Win10, with Samsung NVMe Driver. The Intel 750 SSD can also be read and write when installed and Intel Data Center Tool shows that the SSD is healthy. I think the auto shutdown issue is related to overheating on 750 SSD. I am wondering if the motherboard of Z240 SFF is compatible with Intel 750 SSD. Does anyone have Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed on their Z240 SFF or any other Z Workstation? Thanks! I can't get new Z workstation to boot into WinPE on Windows x Windows x and Windows x with only and NVMe drive installed to the M slot on the MB I've tried plain OEM Media and WDS with WinPE with different drivers added to the boot wim file all no luck nbsp It seems there must be some sort of bug relating to the Samsung nbsp pro nbsp M nbsp NVMe GB drive I'm using When I leave this as the only drive CDRW the computer always hangs as soon as WinPE starts If I leave the Samsung NVMe drive installed and add another SATA drive such as a Samsung Pro SSD it behaves fine- WinPE then loads and I can see both drives nbsp I was able to install Windows nbsp on the NVMe drive and booted into Win as long as the SATA drive was present As soon as I removed the nbsp SATA drive nbsp and it starts loading windows it immediately hangs again nbsp It shouldn't be NVMe driver support as Windows WinPE has native windows when or booting Samsung... hangs Workstation WinPE Z240 NVMe support and has the same problem so it must be something else I suspect it's either something I have to turn off in the BIOS or some other BIOS UEFI bug nbsp Has anyone seen this before nbsp Thanks nbsp Edit Z has latest BIOShttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-Workstation-hangs-booting-windows-or-WinPE-when-Samsung/td-p/5574579
Does anyone know an adapter with two display ports that fits into this Dell Precision T7610 CTO Base, that also have a very good quality?
Here is the spec for the T7610 from the Dell manual, it doesn't relate to the "CTO Base".
Discrete (PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16)
up to 4 full-height, full length (maximum of 600 W)
This suggests you can use many different video cards. . You say "display ports". What are you referring to? "DVI", "VGA" or the actual newer Display port interface?
Dell also has a support forum, staffed by mostly users like this forum. That is another alternative for specific Dell hardware help.
My 3620's current PSU is 290W. I have a hard time finding any other power supply to upgrade. Can somebody provide a list of PSUs compatible with 3620?
There is a 365W power supply for this model - note though that these are not standard power supplies, so aftermarket units won't work.
I have a Canon N U USB scanner connected to my eMachines W running XP home Got drivers from Canon s site For some reason upon bootup or restart the scanner acts as if it is beginning to scan There is a very loud whirring noise and the mechanism slowly travels from the front end of the machine to the top back The light is on and everything seems to freeze at the top back In Canon on comes scanner noisily a Canon scanner comes on noisily normal scan the scanner is completely silent There doesn t seem to be a pattern to this power-on noise Sometimes I boot up and it doesn t do it Other times it ll start after I ve booted up and been on the computer for a few minutes Sometimes it will do this when I restart the computer I changed the USB port where it was plugged in First it was plugged into one of the ports on the back of the tower Then I tried it in a hub Device Manager doesn t indicate that it s in conflict with anything else Also connected to this computer is a HP Photo Scanner which is not a TWAIN device an Aiptek Pen Tablet two printers--one laser one inkjet HP Epson --and a Plextor ConvertX a device that allows video to be put on the computer from an analog device or other digital device and two USB hubs a Belkin and a Asound There are no little yellow exclamation point things in Device Manager for anything connected to the computer Does anyone have a theory about this odd situation Sally nbsp
I've an external zip drive attached to Win98SE tower via USB cord. During start-up/reboot of the computer, it too will make a loud whirling/whizzing sound, as if its looking for a file, etc. on a zip disc.
With that said, the best I can offer on advise would be that potentially your scanner has a similar situation, or some other related "fault" - such as the software "confusing" the mechanism w/in the scanner to attempt a scan, or could just be the scanner itself looking for a "home" placement of its moving parts.
Have you contacted Canon for any ideas?
I was on my computer when it froze. I tried to get to the task manager by clear alt delete bt it wouldn't work. So I shut it off via power button. When I tried to stat it up it wouldn't turn on. I tried checking the cords and the power source but I couldn't find anything wrong. I unplug the powe cord and tried again the CD drive light and a yellow light below the power light flashed but nothing else. The power light seems to be red. I don't know what's wrong with it could you help? My computer info Compaq Windows XP Home Editor, Intel inside celeron processor. Thank you.
Hi everyone, newbie here :) My question: I recently purchased a refurbished Dell 780 Optiplex DT, small form pc. I would like to put in in a tower case, that way I can use a standard dvd drive, and and perhaps a better power supply (I did some research and found a wiring schematic showing how to convert a standard supply to work with these little fellers :) but not sure what type case to use..any suggestions?http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19993622
I have a customer running a peer-to-peer network in their office using NT workstation on each PC. They now need to replace one of the units and add a new one. Will XP be compatible with their existing setup or will we need to replace it with NT workstation?

Got two Vostro 1500's. The hard drive for one of them was running very slow & noisy with consistently high disk usage. I ran a long drive test with Seagate tools and the result was fine. I tried to swap the drives between the two laptops and same problem occurs with the faulty laptop even with the new drive. The old drive in the other laptop is running smoothly. I tried a third different HD in the faulty laptop and that also is not running nicely.
So I know that the drives are fine but what could be causing the faulty laptop to not run hard drives properly?
I have a fairly new Radeon 8500 video card (the 128 MB version) in my PC. I need to replace the card in my G4 to get my new cinema display to work. Will the PC Radeon card work in the G4 tower? It has an AGP slot for the video card. I am just wondering if there is a difference between Mac and PC AGP cards?

You could have a defective power switch on the PC case. Test this by using the reset switch as a temporary power switch. The power switch and the reset switch are the same for practical purposes except, of course, the size of the button (on most cases). If the reset switch works and is able to start the PC, then you know the power switch is defective.
Nvidia P356 Quadro FX4600 graphics card - 768MB GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 dual DVI out thank you all
As long as you have a PCI express socket on the motherboard, that card will work. You may need a power cable adapter to be able to connect the card to the power supply
I ve got a number of systems that have Windows 3020MT media Recovery Tower on won't 10 Windows work downgrade installed by default So I ve switched the firmware to UEFI as Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower per Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower I then booted the DVD from the UEFI boot dvd option and then try to install the OS but didn t get the option I also checked the following article but I don t get the option to Install as per step instead I get options for recovery repair same as you d get when running a recovery disc I ve tried the firmware with or without Secure Boot enabled that doesn t make a difference I ve also tried creating a UEFI USB stick from the DVD and using that same result Finally if I go through the advanced options I can select the built in option for Recovering the OS from disk the problem with this is that it installed a clean Windows install no drivers no Dell specific tweaks no Office trial installed which I simply want to activate Thought I d try the forums before calling Dell support on Monday Any ideas
I'd say skip the Dell media and use the installer from Microsoft ...
No drivers, but those few that are likely to be installed are easy enough to install.
No Dell-specific tweaks - other than Dell branding (which I doubt there is anyone that would 'want' that specifically), I'm not sure what you are referring to.
Office trial is just the free version apps with the Click-to-Run app installed - when you "activate" Office through the Click-to-Run with an existing key, the files for the version you activate are downloaded from the web anyway, so there is really no reason to let that deter you.
we have 2 SSD connected on the Gray connectors. When I try to connect a 3rd SSD on white or black connectors, the SSD isn't recogonized even in Bios. No problem whatsoever---you wont need raid for editing DV--its really not necessary. Yes your ethernet controler is for your network connections and thus it will be used for the Internet. All routers will run XP and 98. Forget about the integrated audio for any serious audio editing (the forgotten element of video editing) Also, make sure you dont use the sound blaster for you firewire connection----lots of reported problems. Go with a seperate firewire card with a TI chipset.
Last but not least, Premiere 5.1 is not a very stable program----they didn't get it right until version 6.0 so if possible, UPGRADE.
I have the following workstation configuration :

Hey guys I work with a company who designs hardware for the Windows OS We are trying to see if virtualization can port our hardware to work in Mac and Linux Here is how our hardware works and what the problem is- Our hardware is considered under Windows as an USB VMWare Getting in specific work hardware 8 Virtualization - to with Workstation software Microphone Our devices ONLY work with our software If the hardware device is not detected our software will fail upon startup and close immediately Ok so I plug in a device then bootup MAC OS X Snow Leopard I go to tools and import USB Microphone The USB microphone shows up in MAC settings as being present I then use WINE to open our Windows based software in the MAC environment Every time I do this our software states there is no device detected Now I know there has to be a way to do this and i m sure it s advanced too but I really need any type of advanced help in figuring out what is restricting this to workhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/445460/vmware-workstation-8-getting-hardware-to-work-in-virtualization-with-specific-software/
hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.
So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?
Thx in adance.
If the power supply will physically fit your case, it should work fine with your computer. Will the extra 10mm interfere internally with anything inside the PC?

We have a Dell 390 tower that has 1 pcie x16 port and 2 pcie x1 ports. We have 3 additional videos cards other then the onboard but we are having difficulty getting all the video cards to work. Dear Support Team,I want to procure HP Z240 workstation for one of my project. The online datasheet shows that it comes up with only Windows 7 or Windows 10. I need to upgrade from a Z220 to a Z240 using the same drives and o/s and software. Will those drives run on the 240 without crashing? Hi, I'm wanting to install 2 x 3.5" HDDs in my new Z240 SFF Workstation. There is a bay that already came with an insert and one of the new drives slots into that just fine. However it looks like some sort of insert/caddy is needed for the "External/internal shared 3.5" bay", as it is too big for the drive itselt to slot in. It looks like this bay is sized for some sort of optical disk. I've called HP and their spare parts people here in Australia, but no one can find the part needed. Can some one please help?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-SFF-caddy-insert-for-3-5-quot-HDD-in/td-p/5778715

When you run HP service packs, they will expand and place their contents under an own directory within C:\swsetup.Specifically in your case, if you run sp74202.exe, you should see a new directory C:\swsetup\SP74202 has been created with the contents of the service pack within. Alternatively you can use 7-zip to peek inside the service pack exe without running it since the exe is a self extracting zip file that runs the installer once decompressed In any case, a newer ME update exists here but i'd first apply the latest system firmware update available here. When looking at the HP service pack links above, it's good practice to selectively click each "Description", "Enhancements", "Installation Instructions" "Release Notes" "Fixes" and "Revision History" tabs and read the information (some of it is repetative but you'll soon learn where to focus your attension). The contents of these tabs contain important and relevant information on what has been improved, fixed, which system it's for, how to install the update, etc. And if a previously installed SP is not listed in the "revision history" tab, that release may have been pulled by HP due to some fauly behaviour or other issue! Pay particular attension to the prerequisits as in some instances firmware updates have to be stepped (that is you can't always simply apply the latest). And if you read such boaring stuff, the system firmware (BIOS) Installation Instructions tab would have given you a clue where the sp files are expanded to Have you tried simply enter the command (as specified) via a command prompt window but changing directories to where the FWUpdLcl.exe file is located? Just keep in mind that sp74202 is the initial ME firmware release so nothing sould update So best to apply the latest system firmware (BIOS), then the ME firmware, then maybe the latest ME software (under chipset drivers). Best to bookmark this page which lists all the downloads for your z240 Windows 10 64bit tower system so check it out periodically.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Updating-Firmware-for-Z240/td-p/5575077

Hello, I am working on installing windows 7 enterprise 64, on a z240 SFF. I am missing the USB drivers for it. I have the driver disk that came with it and I have installed every driver that is on there, along with going to HP support software and drivers web link and downloading everyone from there. There has not been one driver that has solved this problem, so I was looking for some sort of help on finidning one.l I tried a few other drivers for different model of towers but no luck. please help
Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the USB controller that needs the driver. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/z240-sff-USB-driver-missing/td-p/5746056
Have a new Z240 Workstation with a Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 nVMe SSD.Windows 10 will install to the SSD from USB no problem but the machine fails to find the OS post install. The Samsung 950 Pro SSD does not show up in the UEFI section of the BIOS, but it does show up under Legacy devices.Secure Boot is not enabled. If I add a SATA HDD, Windows Boot Manager gets installed on the SATA device and the machine will then boot Windows 10 from SSD. How do I get the machine to boot from SSD without having to have a SATA HDD installed? I am trying to setup my new HP Z240 workstation, but cannot get the graphics card to operate at any resolution above 1024 X 768. The graphics card is an NVIDIA QUADRO K620. It is connected to the monitor with a DVI-D Dual link cable. The monitor is an HP w2408. The monitor has two inputs (DVI and VGA). I have the VGA input connected to another HP computer with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 card (this computer/card/monitor displays at 1920 x1200). When I checked the adapter modes (using the list modes option), the best mode listed is 1024 x 768. The NVIDIA spec sheet lists the max resolution with DVI-I as 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200. What can I do to get the max resolution from my monitor (1920 x 1200)?
Update. Problem solved. When I realized that the monitor in DVI mode was not being recognized as PNP, it pointed to the monitor as the problem. Installed new monitor, everythng works as it should. Evidently the VGA input to the old monitor functioned properly while the DVI portion was defective (card or cable connection). Hello, My company recently purchased some Z240 SFF workstations and put in aftermarket multi-media card readers in the 3.5" slot. The card reader uses the internal USB 3.0 header, so I had to unplug the USB 3.0 cable for the for the front usb ports in order to get it to work. The media card reader works just fine in Windows, however, I get a POST error message on startup: "Cable detection Error 41A- Front USB2 Not Connected. Front USB cable has been detached or unseatted from the motherboard. Press Enter to continue." Is there anyway to disable POST messages? I can't seem to find anything in the UEFI/BIOS to do this.
One of the HP engineers who has been very helpful to us here has recently posted on a related question, and he has access to the schematics and the internal design details of these workstations. His post is on this thread, HERE : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z420-USB3-0-Head... Dan tells how to jumper the header to make it believe the cable is still connected, and it would not matter whether you jumpered at the motherboard end or the far plug end, as long as you got the correct pins/plug holes jumpered. Note his caution.... that seems to suggest that the pins on the motherboard are not as stout as the ones we are used to seeing. A proper sized insulated wire jumper with a short segment of wire exposed at each end can be used as a jumper at the far plug end of a cable, rather than the little plastic jumpers we use at the motherboard pin end of thins. If you carefully figure out the wire colors this should work. The wiring of such headers/cables within a HP workstation family are usually the same, and things can stay the same from one generation to another, in my experience.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-POST-Message-disable/td-p/5761989

HiI have bought a z240 tower which runs really well with win 7 pro. Recently, I wanted to add an SATA extension card, but without any success. I am looking for a simple SATA controller without RAID functionality (which unnecessary slows down the boot procedure). Unfortunately, HP does not offer any SATA boards as accessories - Is there any recommendation for such a card from your side? I've bought a LogiLink PC0059A card, unfortunately, the system does no longer startup when connecting drives to it. The hp BIOS screen appears as usual, then the card shows the attached drives, after that the hp bios screen appears again and reamains without any reaction (reboot required). Hi, I had a look inside and the Z Turbo drive appears to be connected to the motherboard (location 23 on the motherboard map in the manual) and not using a SATA port or any of the four main PCIe3 slots. Only one of the PCIe3 slots is being used and that is for the NVIDIA graphics card, and only one of the SATA ports is being used and that is for the Slim BluRay drive (connected to SATA3). That means there are 3 x SATA ports available, and 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5" bays available, by the looks of it. My question is, is it possible to put 3 x HDD/SSD drives in it, i.e. 2 x 3.5" and 1 x 2.5"?

It appears that newly shipping Z240 Tower workstations DO NOT have an internal USB header anymore? The System Board Overview graphic in the Maintenance & Service Guide (Oct 2015) shows #7 as a USB 2.0 internal header. However, the location where the header should be on the system board is actually a 1x6 pin header (P150) listed as "MEDIA". The other USB 2.0 Header, #5, is taken up as the front USB cable. So is there an updated manual that shows what is actually on the system board? The Z240 Tower QuickSpec is dated March 2016, so I'm hoping there is a newer manual out there somewhere. Any idea what the P150 MEDIA header is for? Is this for the old media card readers? I have the optional SD card reader, but that is attached to #8 which is the internal USB 3.0 header. Any way to attach deveices that need an internal USB 2.0 header?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z240-internal-usb-header-and-updated-Maintenance-amp-Service/td-p/5598284

Hi there nbsp My work machine is a HP Z SFF PC Last month the machine began randomly hanging and displaying blue screen errors There isn't much in the way of discernible patterns but it tends Z240 SFF blue crashes and HP screens random hangs, to happen when the machine is in use rather than idling and I can consistently reproduce it when using the Prime stress testing utility When I set it to maximise CPU heat as soon HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes as I stop the test the machine blue screens indicating a cooling issue The machine's fan is very quiet although on occasion it gets very loud after a restart and then quietens down I would expect the fan to get louder as the CPU gets hotter during the HP Z240 SFF random hangs, blue screens and crashes stress test but this doesn't happen so I wonder if the fan is malfunctioning and if this is a known issue with these machines or if there is any possible resolution nbsp Please see below for the output of BlueScreeView which displays the error codes produced by recent blue screen errors nbsp nbsphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z240-SFF-random-hangs-blue-screens-and-crashes/td-p/5658407
Issue: Whever the system is booted/rebooted after POST, while transfering control to OS, the system goes into a pause/halt (keyboard and mouse doesn't responds)Workaround: As soon as one of the monitors is turned off, seems control passes to Windows 7 ("Loading windows" on black screen shows up) and boots normally, now the monitor can be turned on and dual display works as usualAdditional info: While the system is paused, if the NUM/CAPS/SCROLL lock is pressed in a particular sequence (even though the lights actually don't respond), it looks like the key-press sequence gets stored in buffer. When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. In days of yore it was recommended to create a boot disk...just in case. I don't know whether this is still in practice with Windows XP. From what I can see online...it is. I am trying to help out a small law office who is planning to upgrade to xp. I'd planned to write instructions for them for creating their start-up disks. One question I was asked (and couldn't answer) was whether each workstation needed it's own, or if they could just create one boot disk on one workstation and keep it in the safe for all to use.
Does anyone know? Thanks!
if its the same win xp pro cd (same serial) then it should work with all of them. but it also wouldnt hurt to make discs for all of them.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/67030/should-an-xp-boot-disk-be-created-and-can-workstation-as-boot-workstation-b/
I need some info from my old HD. This 'puter was running WIN ME.
I have memory problems that will not allow this to boot or even POST
My new 'puter is runing XP Home.
I would like to put the old HD into my new machine.
Is this asking for big trouble or should this be ok?
here's the thing...it depends. if you installed xp on fat32 then yes you can install your old ME HD as a slave and be able to read it...however if you installed xp in NTFS then you'r just plain outta luck. you can't read fat32 with ntfs
Im looking to buy a tower to replace my old one. Can anyone give me a link for the best tower with os already on it for around 200-300$.I know that not much but im a broke dude I would like to find at least a 2ghz .
Dell outlet would be a good place to start. Personally, I would save up a little more and wait for a good deal at Dell.
This is an example of what they have:

Well there are three issues I see;
1 Your mb only has sata 2 ports and that will limit or throttle the speed of a modern ssd. It will still be a HUGE improvement over a mech hard disk however you will be somewhat limited.
2 Next issue is that xp [your os] does not support TRIM or wear leveling for the ssd. This causes a degrading of performance over time. Sometimes the drive mfg has a utility that will do basically the same thing. Another option is to make an image of the ssd and store the image on a second hd, external, etc. Once the image is made, boot with parted magic linux and secure erase the ssd. Once the ssd is secure erased, restore the image. This will also restore the ssd drive's speed.
3 XP does not apply the correct partition offset for a ssd. This can be edited manually using linux OR you can create the partitions with a win7/win8 boot disk then install xp.
Other than the above issues, you can install a ssd drive and you will see a significant improvement in performance however not as much as with a modern mb supporting sata3.

Alright, I have this game named Sim Tower, which is a tad bit slow (but shouldnt be). I can manage to install it fine, and even play it off the CD quite well if I wanted to. Although when I start the game, it automatically goes into fast mode (which means time is fast forwarded until there is activity with the people in the game). It hasnt got too much to do with fast mode, but this is when it effects the game speed a lot (mainly the cursor though). I take fast mode off, and then the cursor drags all over the screen, making it nearly impossible to play. At most last time I got to put in some office floors, but Alt F4 Seemed like the best option after that. I have tried running it in compatability mode, and even with this kinda of patch. Any suggestions on how to stop my cursor from slowing down?

Hello there, the tower on my Windows Xp will not come on. It's plugged in, I swear, the monitor will come on just not the tower. Please give me some good advice.
Thank you much,
I am purchasing a new Intel Core 2 Quad Processor system. I wish to keep and use my old Dell Dimension 8200 tower with extra hard drives, optical drives and 1.44 floppy drive for storage and whatever. My new machine has Windows Vista Home Premium. The old machine has Windows XP SE2. My home network has three computers wireless and wired.
Where can I learn how to set up and utilize this older tower on my home network? Do I need to leave a full operating system on it? What else do I need to know to make this work efficiently?
'I am guessing the old tower would be a "server." I'm a neophyte when it comes to these matters. All help including the very basics would be much appreciated.

Somewhere there is a young and budding computer tech who would love to have that, and improve upon it, if the price is right.
Otherwise, it is always helpful to have a computer in reserve for when things do not go right. on the new one.
When I bought my new cmputer, I didn't transfer my photoshop 7 stuff, now can I hook up my old tower to my new computer, download the PS 7 stuff on to a CD, then upload info onto the hard drive of my new computer? I'm new at this, so if this is a real stupid question, just say so.
You can move any files PS created, but to use the program, it will have to be installed on the new pc.
Hi. Well i have got an HP slimline and had problems with gaming since i have a integrated gfx card, so as i have discovered that a integrated gfx card is not very good i wanted to buy a new one that is more powerful, untill i found out that my slimline is too small to even put a decent gfx card in although i have a slot.
Well i have just bought this computer and do not want to buy a new one. is there a way to take all my things out and put it in a bigger tower then will i be able to fit a better gfx card in? if so how can i even do it.
Thanks for reading and i hope you can help.
I'm looking to upgrade my dad's computer setup. He has a Gateway with Windows 98 -- all hardware from around '97 or '98. It needs upgraded so I wanted to get something like this new tower, but he wants to keep the same monitor. Will a 10+ year old monitor work with a modern tower?
it will definitely work , it will just look like crap.. its totally worth getting an LCD if what you currently have is an older CRT monitor

Hello:I can't afford a new computer right now and I wanna know how can I find out what the Best? parts I can get to upgrade my tower. It dosen't play games very well IE Steam games. Also where can I gtet these parts? Thank you Larry
@BigLarryMan?, welcome back to the forum. Here is the Product Specifications page for the computer. You can upgrade the processor, memory, video card and power supply unit (PSU). The processor and memory upgrade information entries will give a list of compatible upgrades. Newer video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS. The last video cards that didn't require UEFI are the GTX 660/670. They are very powerful cards. As for the PSU, I like Corsair products. I recommend at least 500W. A modular PSU is good for a small case because you only have to use the cables that are absolutely necessary. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/I-would-like-to-know-how-to-upgrade-my-tower-please/td-p/5698493

Hey I have recently ran into a problem with my computer a few days ago while moving furniture my couch fell and PC hit tower was after BSOD hit into my PC case no damage was done to the case but BSOD after PC tower was hit I have been having a few problems since The PC was running as it was hit the PC remained on and I was able to use it normally I booted my PC up the next morning and was told that windows was unable to load correctly and to either launch into repair mode or start normally I tried repair mode and it finished but after rebooting again I received the message again Occasionally while trying to boot up I would see a very quick flash of a Blue Screen but it was not in my mini dump folder After hearing that the hit to my PC may have caused damage to my SSD i decided to get it checked out after having the SSD checked out at a PC Repair Shop I was told that the SSD was fine but he believed that the cause of the BSOD was a half installed Windows update My PC was fine again for about a day but then I got another BSOD this morning luckily this one has appeared in the minidump folder so hopefully someone will be able to shed a little light on what may be causing this So far I have not received the quot Windows was unable start quot message since getting my PC looked at by the Repair Shop I have attached the zip from SF Diagnostic Tool Thanks in advanced prizna
SSD is take no damage from the vibrations like HDD does. However the driver causing the BSOD is the Intel Rapid Storage Technology. You might wanna remove that.http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/353576-bsod-after-pc-tower-hit.html
I have a Dell 17"" LCD TV/Monitor. The only way I've found to have the sound play through the computer's sound system is to run a line from the earphone jack on on LCD to a "hole" on the tower. Actually did that once upon a time. However, when moving everything to a new desk, we unplugged ALL the cables, lines, whathaveyou. Now, no one can find the bloody slot, hole, or whatever it is that the line from the earphone jack is to go into. Please be rather explicit as I'm in a wheelchair, and thanks to my new set up I can't actually see the back of the tower. My helpers are able to do so, but don't have a clue as to what anything is on the back. Thanks much, Jack My system: Windows XP. Dell 2300.
i was wondering if anyone knew or could recommend a tower, full would be nice, that has the space for 3 hard drives; but with generous space for hdd coolers to be mounted on each.
Currently have a midi tower, micro atx with 3 hdd but they are literally bunked together and no fan at all can be fitted between them. this is quite unstable i would imagine. Temps are around 45c; when i had one it was about 21c. so i just need a case that would accomidate for 3 hard drives that allows space, about at least an inch between. also be nice if the case had memory card reader built in with a nice design. price doesn't really matter.
i want one for hopefully $400 to $500. i want to be able to play YouTube video's on an
HDTV that will be connected to it. i want to be able to open multiple tabs at the same time
on my Firefox browser. i am not a gamer. i don't do video, movie or major graphic editing. i
can't open multiple tabs at the same time on my present PC. it has a core i3 processor. my
memory usage stays around 2GB Even during video playing. i don't use much processor
power even when playing video's. i have an Intel HD graphics card.
I have just had a phone call from me girlfriend. Her pc tower is not turning on when she presses the ON button on the front of the pc. She has unplugged all units, inc printer, monitor and scanner. Then plugged them back in, the tower is the only thing that is still not working. Now the printer is not working either.
Any help would be appreciated thanks
