Hi. I am trying to run the intel onboard graphics and an nvidia quaddro on the same machine simultaneously. HP says it is possible to do so but I cannot find the option in the BIOS to enable the onboard graphics as a primary driver. Right now, the onboard graphics cards becomes automatically disabled as soon as I plug the Nvidia in. Thanks for your helphttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Z240-Running-multiple-graphics-cards/td-p/5854467
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hello PCAdvisor Community I have recently tried to connect my Alienware R Laptop to a television screen not a specialised pc monitor to Problem Multiple - Cards Graphics monitor Multiple use as a second screen I initially had some problems getting the resolution right it cut off the corners of the screen but have since made it mostly fine by using a custom resolution which keeps the majority of the screen The problem occurs when I try to play games on the second monitor the games do not have the option for me to play at the custom resolution I am using x Multiple monitor - Multiple Graphics Cards Problem and if I try to use fullscreen I cannot see the whole game screen I was looking through my graphics properties for my display adaptors An Nvidia GeForce GTX M and an Intel HD Graphics and it seems that my Nvidia card can only detect my additional monitor whereas my Intel one can only detect my actual laptop one this means that I cannot really change the options on both monitors together or change how they interact etc Any help on how to control which adaptor controls which screen or anything else is very much appreciated Thanks in advancehttp://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forum/helproom-1/multiple-monitor-multiple-graphics-cards-problem-4605443/
I am running a computer with the following specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual Core
Gigabyte GA-M52L-S3 Motherboard
Nvidia Geforce 9500GT 512MB Graphics card (DVI & VGA)
Dual Monitor 20" TFT-screens (One DVI, one VGA)
Now I have bought an HDTV and would like to connect my computer to it with HDMI.
To the Questions:
1. Could I buy another graphics card with an HDMI-port and run that parallel to my current graphics card?
2. Would I have to mirror one of the computer monitors to the HDTV or how would it work? Obviously, the TV and the monitors have different resolutions (1920x1080 and 1680x1050).
Thankful for answers
Your Graphics card can support SLI mode (dual Graphics card mode) Is there 2 or 3 ports on the back of your Graphics card? I have been looking at some 9500GTs and most have a VGA, DVI and a HDMI port on them. You would need to turn off one of your monitors on the ultramon, and put it onto the telly. I take it you want the HDMI only to play movies etc?
I have an ASUS P4P800 mb that has an AGP bus video slot. In it is an ATI ALL IN WONDER Radeon Pro. The tuner died but the rest of the card is normal. I installed another ATI TV card in a PCI slot but cannot get it to work while the AGP card is in. It worked without the bad tuner card which tells me the sw is OK. Someone told me that a mb with an AGP slot cannot have a second graphics card installed. Is this true? If not, anyone know how to install both cards? I'm just trying to get TV on the second card to work.
If it means anything I'm running WINXP Pro SP2, Intel 2.9 ghz, 1gb ram, 90 gig free HDD space.
Hello, I currently have an ATI RADEON HD 4850 in my computer, but i have an old Nvidia 6600.. something laying around. I was wondering if it would be possible to drop that in my system and use it purely for additional moniters. I dont mean to link it with my ati card cause i know that that wont work, but basically keep it seperate to run a few more moniters.
Edit: not only for windows 7 but if its possible on vista too.
it should be possible to use multiple cards for multiple monitors. i haven't tried this in Windows 7 but it worked in Vistahttp://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/3740-multiple-graphics-cards.html

Please uninstall your card driver and install this driver (which is the correct one)
Use custom install and select to perform a clean install!
Ok well ive recently bought a Sapphire HD5850 1GB . (arguably might cancel the order now).
My friend who works in IT has got his hands on a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB PCIe for free for me. Ive got 2 available slots, so i was wondering about the merits of just sticking both in at the same time, or whether this is a bad/ineffective idea.
What you are talking about is SLI and Crossfire.
Now you have ordered an ATI card which uses and supports Crossfire and you freind is getting you an Nvidia card which supports SLI.
Both cards are from a different maker. Nvidia and ATI. This means that you cannot add them into one PC to run them as SLI or Crossfire.
However if you bought another 8800GT or 5850 then you could run the two identical cards together. (providing your PSU could cope with the extra power requirements).
Also the two cards that you wish to run together have to be the same model number and have the same ammount of memory.
E.g. 8800GT 1GB + 8800GT 1GB = Work.
8800GB 512mb + 8800GB 1GB = Doesn't work (as far as I know)
I have a system with a Geforce GTX graphics card and a a aren't graphics sudden. supporting all monitors multiple of My cards Geforce GTX card which each run My graphics cards aren't supporting multiple monitors all of a sudden. monitors for a total of core AMD with gb ram Win A few days ago a plug-in for Adobe After Effects needed me to upgrade my graphics card drivers via a prompt and I allowed it to proceed Usually I DL direct from Nvidia After a restart several Adobe products up to date through CC began to crash on start-up Upon checking it seems the driver selected for me was not the current Nvidia I uploaded to that which yielded no better results The whole system was performing fine except the three graphics intensive Adobe apps all continued to crash on start-up Several days of troubleshooting with clean uninstalls re-installs of both Adobe and Nvidia got me nowhere Then yesterday after rolling back the Nvidia drivers with no luck I upgraded back to the The install went a little off and went into a black screen with a non-responsive mouse visible A hard restart brought the system on line and showing the driver had installed Again no luck with the program loads which had started the whole troubleshooting odyssey Many many pages looked at with many different suggested fixes I would have pushed my system back to a restore point before all this mess but it couldn t access the restore point Possibly an indication of something being out of whack My system has gone through multiple operating systems over many years and I decided this might be a good justification to clear everything with a clean OS install So I bite the bullet and installed Win to my SSD and started with a clean slate Windows pulled up an older graphics driver to load in and my system went from the one screen back to multi Next I fished out the and began installing that It started out fine then dove into the black screen A hard restart and it started entering a pattern where it would work for seconds then go to a black screen for a minute or so The mouse would also go into and out of responsiveness as if the OS was blinking on and blinking off The timing made it impossible to reboot in safe mode Since fast booting and an SSD made the keyboard shortcut unworkable After another reinstall of windows I saw the same problem reappear when Windows auto installed a version of the Nvidia drivers Finally seeing a mention of a similar problem being traced to multiple monitors I disconnected the other three monitors connected to the system and suddenly my system was working fine on a single monitor I installed the Nvidia driver and after rebooting just to check all was perfect on the single monitor set-up I tried hooking up one of the other monitors as a test and when I went to detect it my main monitor started going once again into the cycle of long black pauses I was able to regain monitor functionality by disconnecting the second monitor and rebooting but this is a very bad situation for me What might be causing my problems I thought it was the but even on older drivers it is not letting me work with more than one monitor now I would have thought the clean install of windows would have cleared away any conflicting code but no My cards have been solid so I didn t think it was hardware related I ve been on these monitors for years without problem What started as an error problem loading a few graphics intensive programs has now smothered my whole system Do you have any ideas of a possible solution or at least a way to diagnose the problemhttp://www.tenforums.com/graphic-cards/65738-my-graphics-cards-arent-supporting-multiple-monitors-all-sudden.html
okay, having trouble dual monitor setting up my cousin's pc. in the device manager, under display, it shows ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, and, ATI Radeon 4200 Series. now. I tried to setup a second monitor to it through vga, but it didn't detect the second monitor. monitor is fine. the original wasn't detected in the second one either. stays in power saver mode like it is plugged into nothing.
i am too a picture to show you the back of the pc. i know what to do once the monitor is detected, to enable the small greyed out second display in the display settings, but only ONE monitor box is shown.
much help would be appreciated =)
(the old monitor is plugged in to the left, and below, the lone bga port is the one we are trying to use.)
I am trying to setup my new HP Z240 workstation, but cannot get the graphics card to operate at any resolution above 1024 X 768. The graphics card is an NVIDIA QUADRO K620. It is connected to the monitor with a DVI-D Dual link cable. The monitor is an HP w2408. The monitor has two inputs (DVI and VGA). I have the VGA input connected to another HP computer with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 card (this computer/card/monitor displays at 1920 x1200). When I checked the adapter modes (using the list modes option), the best mode listed is 1024 x 768. The NVIDIA spec sheet lists the max resolution with DVI-I as 2560 x 1600 or 1920 x 1200. What can I do to get the max resolution from my monitor (1920 x 1200)?
Update. Problem solved. When I realized that the monitor in DVI mode was not being recognized as PNP, it pointed to the monitor as the problem. Installed new monitor, everythng works as it should. Evidently the VGA input to the old monitor functioned properly while the DVI portion was defective (card or cable connection). My system came with a Nvidia PCIe card. I would like to remove this card and use the integrated graphics. Whenever I remove the PCIe the system will just beep, and the integrated wouldn't work. When I download graphics card driver 15.20.1045 (sp73511.exe) from the HP site and install this, the properties display 15.200.1045.So I'm now not sure if the corect driver is installed, because I'm still getting graphics card errors. My computer came with a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP card, which is apparently a Graphics/Video Card with onboard video (or the other way around, video w/ onboard graphics) Now, this is a terrible card- it can barely play any modern games. I want to get a new graphics card, but I'm concerned if I install a new Graphics Card, that because of the onboard video, it will affect this greatly, or if I actually need a video card instead of graphics. What do I actually need, and will it adversely affect anything on my PC.
I can provide more information if you want...
We need to know what mobo you have and what slots it has.
I'm trying to run a game in High Def and it says I need to upgrade to GEFORCE 3 or better. Is this a video or a graphics card and what is the best choice to fix this problem.
I've read posts on graphics card and have it down to a choice between GEFORCE and ATI Radeon 3870 that Im having a hard time making since I don't know much about this yet and my comp is at least 5 yrs old. Running an EMachine 3400, 512 mb with windows xp and extra membory added. And which is better the 9600 Geforce or the 3?
Ok, recently, it was confirmed that in order to run Battlefield 3 on Ultra you will need 2 graphics card. Now here is my question, what will I need in order to be able to support these 2 cards.
The cards are 2 Radeon HD 6850.
I have AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor 3/11 dual core.
Crosshair IV formula motherboard
Power Supply - 350w (I know I need to upgrade, but I don't know how much I should have.)
I think you misread the quote from the EA guy. He said that you will need two GTX 580's (or equivalent) to run BF3 on highest settings. Two HD 6850's are are about equal to one GTX 580. You will be able run the game with one or two HD 6850's, just not on highest settings if this person is to be believed.
You will need a PSU of 600w BTW. Secondly, BF3 is going to use up to 8 cores like it's predecessor and using a dual core is going to limit things for you.
Hi, i have a Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard with a Asus Radeon HD 4890 graphics card, and i was thinking about putting in an extra graphics card just for the extra monitor slot so i can use all my 3 monitors. I have a friend that also has the 4890 and did this with a Nvidia card. Will it work with my Sapphire Ultimate X1950 Pro?
And where on the motherboard should i put it? If you look here, 1 is a PCI-Express x16 slot (x4 electrical) and 3 is a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot (x8 electrical)
can any one tell me is a gforce 4 mx440 better than a kyro2 based card
any gforce card is better than a kyro based card. the kyro chipset was very problematic suffering a great many problems.
I have 2 graphics cards on my pc (motherboard: Nvidia 730 SLi) with geforce 8400 gt preinstalled. I added another asus graphics card but my pc does not detect it. Why? Also what will happen if i change my primary video adapter to PCI E form PCI?
Did you add another 8400 GT? Did you buy a SLI bridge and use it?
Nothing will happen if you change that, but you should do it nonetheless, may cut a second or two off your boot time.

I don't think it mentioned it in the speccy, but the memory type of this graphics card is DDR2, don't know if this makes any difference, but worth a mention anyway.
i have been given demigod for christmas but i can not load it. it keeps telling me the error message "hardware based instancing required" from looking about it would appear that i need a graphics card upgrade. i currently have a radion 9200 series "excalibur" 8xagp. what would be the better option to upgrade to?????????

This Radeon HD 4650 for $69.99 after rebate should do: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125281 Its better then what they call for both the minimum and recommended. And its dozens of times better then the Radeon 9200.
Not sure what you have for a CPU, but hopefully its a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 or equivalent AMD processor or better as per the requirements for the game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demigod_(video_game)
for a better vista rating with 2 graphics cards, do both cards have to be the same...? cuz i got an 8400 gs and 6200turbo and my rating is the same as i had with a 8400gs...no performance upgrade
The Performance indicator in Vista is a guide only. And Did you upgrade your Power supply so it can actually run 2 cards without running short on power?http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-cards/108801-2-graphics-cards.html

I have an On-Board Video Card Intel g41 & a GeForce 210.. I need some FPS to play Games.. So I am asking can I use my On-Board & Dedicated Video Card @ the same time together ? SomeHow Or Anyway?
Thanks in Advance...
You are not able to use onboard graphics and a graphics card at the same time.
You can use 1 card to power 2 monitors (and sometimes more depending on the card)
ok, so recently my computer crashed and i had to completely restart the computer (remove all files and start again basically), the graphics before ran smoothly and i could go on any game video etc... now i can hardly play anything and most videos don't load also scrolling down is much less smooth and i really need help, i looked around and couldn't find a fix but found there is probably a problem with my graphics card. i dont know how to reinstall it and can't find it anywhere on my computer anymore. quite annoying please help
Can you change the graphics card in a Dell inspiron 11-3153?? If so, what kind of graphics card should I get? I've heard that you can't change the graphics card in some laptops but I've heard that in some you can change it.
The only Dell systems in recent years that have upgradeable graphics are the 15" and larger Alienware systems and a couple of Precision models. Yours cannot be upgraded.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19683114
I have a computer that i built, that has a very old motherboard and a brown slot for a graphics card. The slot is very small and I don't know what graphics cards are compatible. could someone please post a list of the compatable graphics cards for this motherboard.
Gigabyte Socket 370 GA-6VEML - motherboard - micro ATX - PLE133T : Read reviews and compare prices at Ciao.co.uk
Here is a link to your motherboard manufacturer's website with all of the specs and more for it.
GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification - GA-6VEML
According to it, you have 3 PCI slots (white ones) and 1 ISA slot (brown one). It says that the motherboard already has a integrated video chip with a VGA output if you wanted to use it. If not, then you can use any older PCI (not PCI-E or PCI Express) graphics card.
Hope this helps,
Just wondering if there are any graphics card that are 1gb please post me if u have any comments thanks......
no 512 is the biggest and its by n-vidia
does anyone know how to make sli work properly?
I just put up a post in another seciton asking for general help with my computer's capabilites, but this refers directly to the double nvida geforce 8600 GT I have in my system. Is this a good graphics card? ( within reason)
Seriously my computer was so expensive it should be kicking computer game butt, but every tie a new game comes out it lapses in the graphical prowess department
HELP ME..... please
A double 8600GT shouldn't be bad at all, but it's not at all top of the line... Can you please fill out the rest of your systems specs, it's easier to help that way Now what's the problem, your games are not working the way you want them, that's it? Or is there a problem with your SLI? Check your device manager to see if it shows the two cards, then they should be fine. Also, here's a link to update your drivers: GeForce Release 182
What did you pay for your pc? Building one yourself is always better and not hard at all..
hello i have a pny nvidia 9500gt graphics card and iam thinking of changing it as my base score on windows experience index is 5.9 on all but the graphics that one came out at 5.4 .
I would like them to all be 5.9 and also like better picture quality as well as i do watch blue ray movies on my pc.
Any suggestions please.
Well first off, that is a good card. I am running a 9500GT myself, and it works great.
If you do want a better graphics card, then you are looking at around 200-500 dollars, depending on the memory.
First off, are you looking to keep NVidia or is ATI ok? For NVidia, the GeForce GTX 280 is the best of the best.
ATI's best card is the Radeon HD 4800 series, once again, best of the best.
Those two will give you the best picture quality available.
im about to buy a laptop, Dell Inspiron 15R; there are 2 of them, that have the same price and are almost the same, but the graphics cards and I would like someone to tell me which GPU will perform better in games such as Call of Duty Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 (2 main ones)
so the 2 cards are:
HD 550v: http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/graphics/ati-mobility-hd-560v/Pages/hd-560v-specs.aspx
HD 5650: http://www.amd.com/US/PRODUCTS/NOTEBOOK/GRAPHICS/ATI-MOBILITY-HD-5700/Pages/hd-5650-specs.aspx
i put links up to make it easier for people, but i dont know what the specifications mean
The HD 5650 is the better card and will provide for a better balance between framerate and image quality.
hi i am building a new computer and i was wondering what kind of graphics card should i buy.
i have an hp desktop a1310n and i want a good graphics card for under 100 dollars. Also i wanted to know the difference between pci and pci express slots.what are your thoughts about the ATI Radeon 9250 with 256mb ddr memory.
I have an ATI Radeon X800GTO card that I use with 2 monitors attached (2 x 19" TFT). This card is AGP.
I also have a second club 3D ati Radeon 9250 graphics card, which is pci and in slot 4. is there ANY way that I can use both graphics cards at the same time, as I want to have 3 monitors, maybe 4 in the future.
Any help would be very much appreciated, or just a point in the right direction!
EDIT: I have tried just putting both in, and have set the X800GTO as primary in my BIOS, and I get code 43 error on the second graphics card (9250). I am running windows Vista Business 32-Bit
I have installed both ati drivers for both cards
I don't know if this is in the right section... but out of these which is the better one?
BFG Geforce 6200 OC--Bestbuy
PNY Geforce 8400 GS 512MB ---Staples
Egva Geforce 6200 256MB--Tigerdirect
I only have a PCI (not Express) slot....
if you guys have other goods ones under $150.00 PLEASE!! suggest
The 8400, easily. It's two generations newer than the other cards.

Out of the cards you have chosen, the EVGA card would do the best job
anyone know what the differance is between these two graphics chipsets?? i.e. which is better or are they pretty much the same

2. What resolution your screen is.
3. What kind of games you play.

Have you tried the AMD System Monitor? AMD System Monitorhttp://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/190745-how-can-i-tell-if-im-using-both-graphics-cards.html
How do I know what graphics card will work? I have a Dell dimension 3000 with a intel celeron . I just bought a radeon 9550 but it doesn't fit
Go to Dell.com and enter your tag number for complete system information. Or download and run Everest
However, I do not believe that the 3000 has an AGP slot only PCI. What type of video card did you buy?
Okay, so I opened the Acer a bit more and found the slots *duh me*
Anyway here's more or less what they look like:
So what are they and is there anychance of a graphics upgrade here?
Thats not really very specific, nor is the picture clear enough to really tell anything. The slots all look the same, only with different lengths and little dividers throughout, depending on the slot.
You're wanting to upgrade the video card in your computer?
Post some specs, including the model number of your computer. If you posted them in another thread, post a link so I can check it out.
i just bought a PCI express graphics card and plugged it into my computer. I wanted the card for duel monitors, but only the monitor with the vga plugged into the graphics card works. The other monitor just says "no signal" even though it is plugged into the inbuild card. I don't actually have windows because we're still looking for the code. Would this affect it?
whats the exact model of the graphics
moved to hardware forum
Just need clarification...
Why does a PC have an external and onboard graphics card? Which should I connect my monitor to? I have a D-sub cable obviously with two ports for that both onbord and external!
I'm not a gamer at all...just in case it depends on that.
Thanks guys John.
A onboard card is normally a cheap option so an extra quality card is often added so the new one will be besthttp://www.pchelpforum.com/pc-hardware/129613-two-graphics-cards.html
So whenever a new card comes out people, I typically see, automatically recommend getting it. However, I am unsure as I am looking to get a mid-high end graphics card but I also want the most for my money, as anyone would. That being said I am told that there isnt that much performance difference between a new generation. For example I heard that between the 760 and the 960 you only get a few extra fps.
But as I am also told, there is no purpose in having the gfx card if you dont have the display for it. I want to game on this, so what GFX card should I get?
The one reason to upgrade your GPU would be to keep up with the new games for a longer period of time
than the older GPU will. But, this entails allot of other components. PSU , CPU , motherboard compatibility.
As far as the screen refresh rates is concerned, if you already run a 120Hz panel then, going to a 240Hz will bring
little to the viewing experience but, being able to handle more screens at higher resolutions will enhance your
So, it depends on what you're looking for , longevity or just handling more screens at higher resolution and / or
higher refresh rates (Hz.)
Is it possible to use 2 graphics cards on the same mobo for more than 1 screen without causing a conflict?
Your motherboard has to be set up for it with a SLI (Scalable Link Interface) that lets them work together. Read this to give you a better idea.
my friend has a nvidia leadtek 512mb 9800gt graphics card on his computer and claims to be better than many of the 1gb graphics card
which is better all up for performance gaming and all
leadtek 512mb 9800gt or ati radeon hd 4870 1gb
he saw that ati radeon and he says his one is better i dont agree but what do you guys think
thankyou very much
To put a long story short, the 9800GT gets PWNED.
The Radeon is far, far better.
Hello, I am new here so bear with me. I want to get the new Sims 3 game coming out in a few weeks. I did the system requirements lab, and it said that my video card was not up to par. I have the Intel Mobile 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Is there any way to replace this in a laptop or upgrade it so that the Sims will play efficiently? Also, can someone explain to me what the difference between integrated graphics and discrete graphics are? And why discrete are better. Thanks, sorry if its a lot.
Integrated graphics cards are integrated onto the motherboard of a computer. Discrete cards, also known as add-on cards are added to the computer using a slot (PCI, AGP, PCI-Express 16x with desktops, laptops are a bit different.) You can propably (depends a lot on the connectivity in your laptop) add a graphics card, but it will be external: http://www.trustedreviews.com/graph...-Makes-First-External-Laptop-Graphics-Card/p1
Where to find one of those and how much they cost, no idea. What I know is that they're not worth it. If you want to play a game, get a good game-capable laptop, or a same level desktop for 50% less.
Hi, i've been searching high and low for help but cant find any!! But this forum looks promising so here it goes...
My Motherboard will only allow me to run dual screen (As in 1 main screen and another for extension) if i have 2 cards installed. So i bought a cheap Nvidia 7100GS card to go in along with my Nvidia 8800GTS (the Motherboard has 2 PCI-E slots). But when i installed the second card there was a conflict with the 2 drivers. I've read that there are ways to resolve this by having 2 drivers installed so each Card can run of each driver independently??
Please Reply, i need all the help i can get
I am new to PC gaming, I ordered this PC from Amazon.
The graphics card isn't that good so I want to upgrade it once I get it. Is this graphics card compatible with the PC?
Well i im looking for a graphics card since i have an integrated one and want to play wow or some new games.and i was wondering if anyone would recommend one for me
my specs are:
CPU:Amd Athlon XP 2000+(1.66 GHZ)
MOBO:my computer is from northgate and unfortunately they took down their website but my mobo model is KM266-8235
GPU port:AGP universal 4x/8x
PSU:max of 400w
I'm not real familiar with any of the high-end ATI AGP cards other than the HD2600. If you wanted to go with an nVidia card, a 6600/6800GT should run the game fine. The 7800GS would be the perfect choice but they are becoming hard to find. There may be some 7950GTs lying around as well...
I am looking at buying a new graphics card for my Dell 4700 pc and I was looking for some good suggestions on some good brands/ cards. If you know of any manufacturers or even card models that are under $350, that would be great. Thanks
Hi I have a Dell XPS and am trying to run three monitors from two graphics cards.
I have a Geforce 8400 graphics card and an ATI Sapphire Graphics card.
When I plug both in, one is using a pci express 16 slot and one is using a pci express 1 slot, there is no monitor signal.
I have tried the graphics card in the pci express 1 slot by itself and that does not work either.
Can anyone help, I have seen lots of conflicting info on the forums.
Do you have the right drivers installed for each card?
nvidia will not (by default) allow an ATI card to be the primary video card.
With a single card in the pci-e x1 slot, do you get a signal in safe mode?
Hello, I need to upgrade my graphics card with something that supports 4k resolution and at least 1 HDMI output. Ideally it would have 2 HDMI outputs and support 3 displays, but my hopes are not super high on the latter. I also see products out there for external graphics cards and unsure if I should choose an internal or external. Could someone help me figure out what I need? Thank you!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/What-are-the-best-graphics-cards-4K-UHD-I-can-get-with-my/td-p/5725769
I was just wondering what specifications you should pay attention to when comparing graphics cards. I was just looking at base clock and boost clock speeds on a couple different cards and noticed, for example, that the GTX 770 actually has higher base and boost clocks than the GTX titan. This leads me to believe that there is a lot more to it than base and boost clock speeds since obviously the GTX titan is better than the 770.
They are different video cards, the GTX 770 is essentially an overclocked GTX 680 with a higher memory bandwidth so its a different GPU than the GTX titan and 780 and a different amount of cuda cores. Because of this, it can do higher clocks to keep up performance while the other cards have more Cuda cores but will consume much more power and heat to do the same clocks which is why they don't do it. Its all about that balance!
Im considering buying a new graphics card for my computer, curently im using a Nvidia Geforce 7600 ht. my comp has slots for two cards and i was wondering if i should buy another 7600 or if it even matters, compatiblility wise, if there the same. If it doesnt matter, any recomendations on a good 512 mb card. fell free to de-prioritize this issue, as time isnt really a problem.
What the reason for the purchase?
If you have an NForce4/5xx/6xx series motherboard then you can buy another 7600 series card and run the cards in SLI.
If you want multiple monitors support, more then two, then you can just about buy any other card to do that.
If you have an Intel or ATI chipset based motherboard then you can't do SLI with a second 7600 series card and you have to buy a better card and the 7600 will no longer be useful at all.
I recently bought Everquest 2 for the PC and found out that my GeForce MX 420 won't allow me to play the game. I, in my burning desire to play the game, convinced my friend to let me barrow is graphics card until I got a new one. He has a GeForce 3 Ti 200, and it works good, but I am looking for something a little better. I'm looking for a card around $200. I need to know what is good and why. What is the best card I can get for around $200 or under?
All help is greatly appreciated.
having just fried my Ge3Ti200 im looking at buying a new graphics card
im looking at the Geforce FX 5600 Ultra (dont try and sell me an ATi card - i just dont like them) and i was wondering if anyone has the english release dates and prices? and most importantly is creative doing a card?
Well Scan already have a gainward 256mb FX5600 Ultra listed...
Hi what graphics card is better for a laptop a ATI Mobile Radeon 9700 Pro or a NVidia GeForce Go 6800 and would they both be able to play the sims 2 with ease ?
Both should do for the Sims, but the Go 6800 is the newer and better card.
Hey guys, I recently downloaded CPU-Z to check detailed specs about my laptop. When I went to graphics I encountered something I did not understand.. Please check the screenshots and explain to me what this is. Do I have two graphics card or what?
Yes, one is the graphics built into the CPU, the other is a separate (discrete) AMD graphics chip. Behavior and whether you can switch between them is dependent upon the BIOS and hardware configuration.
Would help to know what laptop exactly. Look at my specs.
Did you just get the laptop?
Also, GPU-Z will give more info on the graphics.
hey, i currently have a geforce 6, 6600 and wud like 2 upgrade
wot wud u reccommend? i have an AGP slot and most of the really gud graphics cards now use PCI express! so i cant get them? annoying! or do they make AGP 1s to, i can neva find any
I am stuck with a pci slot (not express) on my system. dell E310 pent 4, 1 gb ram. I think I have narrowed it down to 2 the graphics cards I want to use. I would appreciate any thoughts, recommendations, experiences and information about them. The first is the bfg geforce6200 256mb ddr. The second is the Diamond stealth s9250 256.
Ok. I am going to build a system where I will Crossfire 2 ATI graphics cards. I run my computer at 1680c1050 resolution. My main goal is to be able to run Oblivion with all the graphical goodies cranked up, and maybe even using higher resolution texture packs. Will 2 x 256mb gpus be enough? Should I use 2 x 512s? Or should I use one 256 and one 512, and is that even possible?
Price range is up to $230 for each card if that is what it takes to get what I want. And if 256 bit memory interfaces on the gpus is faster then 128, then I want that lol.
I will be using Vista home premium with this processor http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819103244 and this mobo http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131224
Any help would be great, thanks!
Have you found any info on mixing brands of cards when running a dual? I know the model should be the same but does the card maker matter?
Im haiving problems with my graphics card and rather then fix it im gunna replace it its getting oold anyway. What i need to know is are there different types of graphics cards like slots etc is if so how can i find out what slot it takes? Then is there a chance that the computer will not accept the graphics card because its too fast for the computer i got 1bg of ram and 2.8 ghz. Is there anything else i need to know about when upgrading my graphics card aswell?
hi i am wondering if there is any way of getting aero to work on a ati radeon 9200se graphics card?
Hello biesty and welcome to the forums
No, not the normal way anyway. Your graphics card isn't powerful enough to run aero, and it isn't supported in your drivers as the Radeon 9200 doesn't support DirectX 9.0, you have 8.1. You can use various customisation software to mimic the effect though:
Windows 7: Aero Glass Without WDDM Drivers ~ What the.....?
Have a 250W PSU and CANNOT put in anything larger....it's an HP Slimline. Most graphics cards have a 300W requirement or greater. If I stick in a card with a 300W requirement what would the logical result be? Crummy performance? Not work at all? Not looking for answers that are guarantees, just educated guesses from greater experience than I have.
Bottom line is I need a card no longer than 7" (otherwise it hits the HD cage) and can adequately run on 250W. Just as an FYI this is the card I'm considering: Newegg.com - SPARKLE SX84GS512S3LNM GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card
Any guesses on performance would be appreciated.
I think it'll work just fine. Though I'd look into a ati/amd 4350, most run on 250W.http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-cards/296673-graphics-cards-psu.html
hi, since my nvidia graphics card decided to die, i tried my brothers ATI card. the problem is that when i turn the PC on, i get a message saying that some power supply to the card isnt connected. i know the problem, but my computer doesnt have a power lead that will connect to the graphics card. are all ATI cards like this as im about to buy a new ATI card?
when i tried to check what type of graphic card i have on my hp laptop i found that i have 2 actually
1 is called intel HD garphic familly with 1GB memory
2nd is called radeon with 1,8GB memory what does that mean? by this question i mean does i have 1 GPU'z or does those 2 actually come together?
you have 2 graphics cards. one is dedicated, in your laptop solely for the purpose of providing graphics (the radeon). The other, the intel HD graphic family, is built into your processor. Chances are, the radeon is better. Although i dont know, depending on what radeon model you have. almost all of them will be better than the intel though.
I have afriend who has a computer with integrated Radeon xpress 200 graphics. He would like to upgrade this to someting that will be able to play games the best he's going to be able to. Of course the problem is he only has pci slots. So is there a half decent pci graphics card out there? I seen one, think it was fx5200 or something like that. If that's the right name how will this perform with todays modern games? Thanks all. Max.
I want to buy a new graphics card and this is the one I had in mind BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 512MB PCI-E Video Card
I did a little looking around for prices on newegg and I came up with two more video cards that are similar but different in prices.
Zontac GeForce 9800 GTX
Evga GeForce 9800 GTX
BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC on Newegg
The BFG card is obviosly better, and I'll probably end up buying that one, but is there really that much of a difference between the cards?
My second questions is the power supply. I'll definatly need to buy a new powersupply, but i don't want to spend a lot of money on it. I found this one on newegg - Apevia Power Supply - is it good enough to run the BFG card and why/why not?
BFG and Evga are both excellent brands, you can't go wrong with either. Apevia is crap and I wouldn't even think about that. There are some Thermaltake units at good prices.
You need a minimum 450 watt psu for single card.
My kids have a Compaq Presario 5000 series. I upgraded the processor and memory and it was working GREAT! Suddenly I smelled burning and found the heatsink had broken the tab off the socket. I found the same board, installed it, put the computer back together. When I start it up it does not communicate with the monitor, everything else seems to be working and there are no beeps. I switched the graphics card with another and still nothing. I cannot find the same graphics card anywhere. Can someone please advise me on one that is compatible and where to find it. I would really appreciate the help!
mother board is a uWave K7 207074-101
I also set up another system with a Gigabyte GA-7ZXE Motherboard and need some advice on what graphics cards I can use with it, it did the same thing.....I am getting a bit frustrated!
i think the blue smoke was a chip buring, since the heat sink is metal, it would be conducting power to where it was not supposed to be. possibly the cpu, ram, embedded chips, modem, possibly any thing
I was just looking though my local newspaper today combing though ad's trying to find a good vid card. I have a mediocere rig (Dell Dimension 8200, 2.26 Ghz P4), but my vid card sucks (Geforce 4 MX 420). Here are the cards they had in my area which are reasonably price in my range, but I dont know which are better than others. I was wondering if someone could tell me the top ones here, not necessarily in order, but just which are better than others.
Radeon X800 Pro (pretty sure this is the best, but out of price range)
Radeon 9600 SE 128mb
Geforce 6800 Verto 128mb ddr 700mhz
Geforce FX 5500
Geforce FX 5700LE 128mb
ATI "All-in-wonder" 9600XT 128mb
Out of pure question, which of these cards is better?
1GB NVIDIA ASUS ENGT220 DDR2 HDMI
1GB NVIDIA ASUS ENGT220 DDR2 HDMI available at Computer orBIT Commerce Centre - No.1 for PC components
1GB ATI POWERCOLOR HD5570 PCX HDMI
1GB ATI POWERCOLOR HD5570 PCX HDMI available at Computer orBIT Commerce Centre - No.1 for PC components
Got my build approved, just getting a professional electrician (basically a computer genius) to build it for me, as he gets parts cheaper. then i wondered, so which vote.
Or suggest one, and know what? i've just seen the graphics card section XD sorry.
-Motherboard (and/or slots) ASUS P7H55-M MOTHERBOARD LGA1156
-Budget - ?100? ($160 ish)
Which motherboard are you using? I would go for the NVidia myself, as it's what I use on my system (not that particular card, but an 8800GT). However, I would base my actual decision on your chipset - if it is NVidia-based then I would go with that and if AMD-based then the ATI card.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/107040-graphics-cards.html
I wish to upgrade my graphics card but don't know which card is compatable with my computer, I would appreciate your advice, my operating system windows vista
I've been looking to upgrade my graphics card so I can get a decent FPS going when I play any games or whatnot, but I have no idea which card would be a good replacement.
I currently have a run of the mill Dell Inspiron 530s and unfortunately, it only has space for a low profile card, which from what I understand limits my options by a lot.
It has a 3gb ram and a 250watt powersupply. The processor it has is a Pentium Dual core @ 2.20 GHz.
I would appreciate it if you guys could recommend me a decent low profile, x16 pci-express card that is below $100 and won't be bogged down by my low power supply.
Hi welcome to the forum.
As you have double posted and are in the games section also.
Check out the Gaming Rigs Threade, macandy.
That should, with the varios links and suggestions, maybe answer you question.
You are going to be limited with a 32 bit for ram.
New games coming out now are asking for more & more power.
i just got a new comp and just found out it only has a pci express x8 and x1 and 2 pci slot. what graphics cards can i use that will play BF2 and other games
please correct me if I'm mistaking(I still run on good old AGP ) but as far as I know, one can run pci-express cards that are x16 on a x8 slot. It will run slower, but if you have a good card, it will run any game easily. The speed difference isn't that much. Anyway, it really depends on the games you want to play. If indeed you can run x16 pci express cards on a x8 slot, you can choose any card you want.. my advice is to choose one from the 7 series(anything in the nvidia geforce 7 series will run BF2 just fine) but with an eye on the future, a 7600gt is recommended. If you have the money to spare, an 7800gt/gtx or a 7900/7950 are even better. If you have money to burn, go for either the 8800GTS or 8800GTX. (these are from the new nvidia geforce 8 series) these are the top of the line cards at the moment, but they're expensive. Can someone please confirm that x16 cards will run on x8 slots though? thanks.
edit: did I just sound like an nvidia fanboy? I just completely forgot about ATI. it's because I've always used nvidia... hmm, well, the x1800/1900/pro/xt/xtx will do just fine too. At the moment, the 8800GTX is the best card on the market though, but I dont know if that's what you want.
I have a DELL D610 LATITUDE.
-1 GB RAM
-Product code X11-45371
My question is:
I have messaged a ton of sites e.g pc word and no one has messaged me back in months.
I do not have a Graphics card and do not know what one to get ATI or nVidia or another one.
Do you know what type of graphics card and MB/GB size I should get?
Thanks in advanced
You can't add a graphcs card to a laptop.
I was looking in Device Manager on my laptop, trying to find the specs on my display driver as I have always had problems with it, and I see (what I think are) two display drivers! Is this normal?
Yes it is. Your notebook has the Intel/AMD switchable graphics setup. For low demand graphics processing the notebook uses the Intel HD graphics. If your notebook needs more graphics 'horsepower' such as when playing video games, the AMD graphics kicks in.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Two-graphics-cards/td-p/5685714

yyes u could use a 128mb graphic card in yor machine just stick it in and instal the drivers and yor away
I posted a few weeks ago re upgrading my old Ge Force 6800 to something a bit more up to date, but have since decided I'd be better to go the whole hog and get a new rig.
I'm looking at a choice between the following:
Dual nVidia GTX 550 Ti 1GB PCI Express Graphics Card
ATI HD6870 1GB PCI Express Graphics Card
I gather the dual nvidias would be faster than the individual ATI, but would it be a marked increase? (I'm looking at the moment to play Skyrim at a decent rate, but obviously there's the future to consider).
I've not had a system with 2 gpus before - is there anything I need to be aware of or is it basically the same as having 1 card to the end user?
Any advice much appreciated!

Connecting two nVidia SLI or two ATI Crossfire cards together would practically double your performance while connecting them together as if they were one card. There are issues that can arise from SLI or Crossfire (I have only read about the issues), so if possible it might be best to get the performance you need from one card.
If you are thinking about SLI or Crossfire for a future upgrade, you might consider changing the 550Ti to 560/560Ti. The 560/560Ti closer matches performance of the HD 6870.
I've not had a SLI or Crossfire system either so consider my post as opinion based on what I have read over the last two years. Even though not completely accurate, I base allot of performance levels from PassMark - G3D Mark. The reason for the inaccuracy is mostly from the scores being influenced by Over-Clockers. The benchmarks do give a general guideline for performance.
Video Card 3D Acceleration
Video HW Rasterization
Video HW Transform & Lighting
Vertex Shader Ver 2.0
Pixel Shader Ver 2.0
WHICH OF THESE THREE VIDEO CARDS HAVE ALL OF THE SPECIFICATIONS ABOVE (IF NONE OF THESE CHOICES HAS ALL OF THEM WHICH ONE HAS THE MOST)
PS. If anyone could recommend a pci card ( not pci ex16) that too would be great.
For a PCI video card, you should choose between a Radeon x1300 PCI or a Radeon x1550 PCI.
Honestly though, a Radeon x1300 is as good as it gets on a PCI slot.
So I have had my pc for about 2 years, and only recently I have found out that it doesn't actually have a graphics card. no idea how I missed that one. I have never looked at purchasing a graphics card before, so I dont know what to look for, power consumption, the plug that goes into the motherboard, all that stuff. I would really like one, so I can run games at 60 FPS
Motherboard: ASUS A55M A-USB3

Hi People Here is my latest dilema I have an HP with Windows Graphics Cards XP SP However I have always wanted to try to play a computer game so I went to Best Buy and got a game called Zoo Tycoon I know it s a kiddie type game but I love animals and thought it would Graphics Cards be good fun Anyway I got home with the game only to find out that there is an integrated graphics thingy on my Graphics Cards computer called Graphics Cards a quot VIA UniChrome Graphics quot and it s not good enough for the game Sooooooo I went back to Best Buy and they guy picked out what he said would be the best for my money and sold me an quot ATI Radeon quot but he wants me to pay bucks to install it I have put in a hard drive and RAM before on other computers and I don t see how it can be any more difficult He told me that the difficult part was changing the BIOS settings I asked him how to do it and he said he couldn t tell me My question is can someone tell me what is Bios where are the settings how do I access them and what do I change it to Is this really that difficult Thanks for any help P S I am really learning a lot from this site and I can t tell you enough how much I appreciate it You people are great Mia
Actually, i think that guy was just trying to be smart.
Need to know if your graphic card is a AGP slot or a PCI slot.
You actually need not do any setting as i believe the graphic card comes with a CD installer!
The process along the CD installer would update the bios, registry info.
Its a simple job. i think if u have some knowledge of computer installation, you can do it.
I'm building a gaming PC for a friend. He wants to know if using 2 video cards will cancel one of them out or if they would combine. If only one is used, which one would it be? For example, does any mobo-integrated video card help out an additional one, or is it ignored?
Didn't realize there was a similar thread below...its not exactly the same however and an answer would still be appreciated
You'll only get a benefit in performance if the video cards are in SLI(Nvidia) or Crossfire(ATI) configurations. In SLI or Crossfire the cards combine to improve performance and/or quality. Otherwise using two video cards results in each card being treated individually and in gaming only one card is used - a setup like this in only useful to run multiple monitors and has zero performance gains.
Does anyone know where I could locate an ATI Radeon gpu between 9500-9700 thats PCI?
what are the benefits at having 2 graphics card and are they any dowsides /cheers
For most people, 2 graphics cards is overkill. Hardcore gamers are an example of someone who would be interested in this kind of setup.
If you are wanting to run the latest PC games at high resolutions on full settings then two graphics cards may be something worth looking into. If that is the case with you, just post back and we can help you pick the right setup.
The downsides are price of course, not only are two cards expensive, but also the costs of having other components that support diual cards (motherboard and power supply).
In the past whenever my computer got outdated I would just take out my old graphics card and throw in a better one This would let me keep gaming on my computer for another year or so before I bought a new Cards Graphics Two one But lately I keep hearing about quot SLI mode quot or whatever it is called From what I can gather about it is it uses two graphics cards instead of just one I was wondering what people s experiences were with using this setup So I have some questions Is it better to just get one up to date Two Graphics Cards graphics card and throw out the old one I have a GT right now if i wanted to do SLI would I have to get another GT Does it work better with a Dual Core Can my computer even handle doing SLI I have a Quad Core Ghz GB of ram and three quot PCI Express Root Ports quot Is it easy to setup I have put new graphics cards into computers before without any problems Do I just put the other graphics card in another Two Graphics Cards slot or do I have to Two Graphics Cards connect them together If so would I be able to do it or do I have to get a computer technician Will it effectively double what the graphics cards can handle or are they less effective working together I don t know much about building computers the most I ve ever done is put in sticks of ram Also another question though it is off-topic how do I find out how many ram slots I have Any help is greatly appreciated sorry for asking so many questions nbsp
I haven't had a great deal of experience with SLI myself but I can answer some of your questions to a certain degree. I am sure someone with far more knowledge will come along at some point.
1) From what I have seen in general, unless you are running two high end cards in SLI it is generally better to upgrade a single card for a better, single card. Of course, if you upgrade your cards aswell that will give an even better boost however it will double the cost.
2) Yes, both cards have to be the same.
4) Is your motherboard running an NVidia chipset? I don't know if it has changed but it always used to be the case that to use SLI you need an NVidia chipset.
SLI is the name given to NVidia method of running two cards, ATI use Crossfire which is essentially the same thing.
I had a customer asked me today if it was OK to have multiple PCI-USB host cards in one PC, and if there would be any conflicts or performance issues. I did a quick search, but didn't find much on the topic. Anyone have any thoughts?
